Staying in Singapore for 180 years? Running Man host Jeon So-min 'caught' at Singapore immigration while on holiday

Staying in Singapore for 180 years? Running Man host Jeon So-min 'caught' at Singapore immigration while on holiday

Jeon So-min is a regular cast member on the popular South Korean reality gameshow Running Man.

One thing she couldn't escape from, though, were the immigration officers at Changi Airport when she was in town last month for a holiday.

In a recent episode of the show, the 36-year-old actress-model recounted how she was "caught" and detained for questioning when she was getting her passport checked at Changi Airport.

"Is it because you don't speak English?" asked fellow cast member Yang Se-chan.

So-min replied that it wasn't the case, but shared she was brought to an "investigation room".

What made the situation more worrying was that So-min was alone at the time as her travel companion, TV producer Seon Myeong, had already passed through immigration before her.

While in the room, officers "kept checking my departure date", said So-min, and asked her repeatedly about when she was leaving.

"They seemed very serious and kept asking when I'd leave," shared So-min of the interrogation process.

[[nid:601356]]

She added that officers also questioned: "Are you sure you're going back to South Korea?" and that their persistence made her wonder why they "cared so much" about when she was leaving.

Turns out, it was all just a big mistake — on So-min's part, that is.

So-min was supposed to spend only five days in Singapore but had filled in the departure date on her arrival card as Oct 2, 2202 instead of Oct 2, 2022 — a full 180 years later.

Hearing her gaffe, the other cast members could not help but react in a mix of horror and laughter.

Co-star Haha joked that So-min should have told them, "Sorry, sorry, empty head."

Thankfully, So-min did eventually get to enjoy her time on our sunny island in the end and reported that her holiday "was really fun", although no chilli crabs were had.

Based on their conversation, So-min appeared to have hit the clubs in town and was spotted in a "pretty bikini" by cast-mate Song Ji-hyo while on a video call. Spicy.

Jeon So-min said , “It was really fun. I didn’t drink much either. Producer Sun-seon is a picky eater,” she said with a smile. “I wasn’t taken during the immigration examination. Sun-seon went out and told me to come. I was called alone, but he checked the day I went out too much,” she said.

She confessed, “I wanted to be obsessed with the day I went out, but I had to write the day I left on the immigration. I had to write October 2, 2022, but I wrote October 2, 2202,” which drew laughter.

South Korean actress Jeon So-min to leave variety show Running Man after six years

somin singapore trip

SEOUL – South Korean actress Jeon So-min will bid farewell to long-running variety show Running Man (2010 to present) after six years.

Her departure was confirmed by her agency King Kong By Starship on Monday, reported The Korea Times. The 37-year-old will record her final episode as a main cast member next Monday.

The agency said her decision came after long discussions with the Running Man production team, adding that the actress “needs some time to recharge in order to impress even further through future activities, including her acting”.

Running Man producers confirmed Jeon’s decision in a statement to South Korean media outlet XportsNews. They said that though they had tried to find a way for her to stay, they respect her wishes to leave and “decided on a sad farewell”.

They added: “We would like to express our gratitude to Jeon So-min, who made Running Man shine brighter during her time on the show. The Running Man cast and production team will continue to support her. She will forever be a member of Running Man.”

A former model, Jeon joined the acclaimed South Korean variety series in April 2017 and was named the best rookie in a variety show at the SBS Entertainment Awards that same year.

During her years with Running Man, she had guest roles in K-dramas such as My Secret Romance (2017), So I Married An Anti Fan (2021) and Delivery Man (2023).

Running Man will continue with cast members Yoo Jae-seok, Ha Ha, Ji Seok-jin, Kim Jong-kook, Song Ji-hyo and Yang Se-chan. The production team will look for a replacement for Jeon.

‘Running Man’s’ Rating Drops Following Jeon So Min’s Exit

SBS' "Running Man" continues to release episodes packed with the laughter and humor of the members. However, its rating dropped following Jeon So Min's exit from the show.

'Running Man' Episode 680 Records Low Viewership Rating

It is just a week after Jeon So Min's last appearance in "Running Man" aired, but the show already struggles to keep a high rating.

According to Nielsen Korea  on November 20, "Running Man" episode 680, which was broadcast on November 19, recorded an average score of 3.5 percent viewership rating nationwide and 4.1 percent in the metropolitan area.

It has been said that it is a slight drop from the 679th episode aired on November 12. The last episode was dedicated to Jeon So Min as she officially left the program. It garnered a 4.2 percent rating nationwide and 4.6 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Meanwhile, in the 680th episode of the variety program, Yoo Jae Suk, Ji Seok Jin, Haha, Kim Jong Kook, Song Ji Hyo, and Yang Se Chan went to Singapore to film.

Apart from them, they welcomed their celebrity guests Shin Ye Eun and Hong Jin Ho, showing off their sense of entertainment.

Shin Ye Eun Temporarily Replaces Jeon So Min?

Shin Ye Eun  earned the spotlight as she played an active role in the "Running Man" latest episode. Her wit and playfulness captured the viewers, and according to a source, the actress somehow temporarily replaced former member Jeon So Min.

In the Singapore special broadcast, members gathered at the terminal of Changi Airport. Haha, who was penalized in Jeon So Min's last broadcast, also made it to the show.

As the show began, he introduced guests who would enjoy a two-day trip, Hong Jin Ho and Shin Ye Eun. As soon as they appeared, Yoo Jae Suk recalled his experience with the male guest, "Jin Ho fainted next to the plane, and slept 90 degrees when landing."

In response, the gamer said, "I have never done that before, but I was surprised."

What's Next for 'Running Man': BTS V a& Yoo Seung Ho Confirmed To Return as Guests

On November 20, it was reported that BTS V and Yoo Seung Ho will make their return to "Running Man" and are already scheduled to film together. According to a source , their episode appearance will be released on December 3.

Previously, Kim Tae Hyung, widely known as V of BTS already made his appearance in the September 10 broadcast of the program, while Yoo Seung Ho was a guest on the October 8 broadcast. At that time, Haha mentioned that V and Yoo Seung Ho should appear in the show together for a special 'Tazza' episode.

And the much-awaited collaboration is about to happen. Fans and viewers are already looking forward to seeing these two stars alongside "Running Man" members.

11 things to know before visiting Singapore

Plan for your trip to Singapore with these things you should know and insider tips © Jakub Zajic / Getty Images

Singapore has a well-cultivated image of being a safe country .

Too safe perhaps for some, who balk at its infamously strict rules and fines for flouting them, and find the gleaming modern city too sanitized for their liking. Others appreciate the clean streets and manicured gardens amidst the tall buildings along with the intriguing mix of people that make up Singapore’s multifaceted culture.

As a Singaporean who’s lived here all her life (and who has always had to explain the country to fellow travelers in foreign hostel common rooms) here’s what you need to know about Singapore, its cultural landscape, and its local customs and quirks, to help you plan your trip to the Little Red Dot.

1. Singapore is small, but with lots to see and do

Compact Singapore takes less than an hour to drive from end to end but there’s a lot packed into this small country. For a first-time visitor, three to four days is usually sufficient to see the main highlights and get a feel of the top things to do in Singapore .

If you’re really short on time, plan a layover with at least 5.5 hours and you can join one of three free transit tours organized by the excellent Changi Airport for a quick taster of what the country has to offer.

Tourists milling around the street of Chinatown in Singapore as the sun beats down; some carry umbrellas to give them shade

2. Pack for the tropics

Practically located on the equator, expect hot tropical weather ranging from 25 to 35ºC (77 to 95ºF) every single day in Singapore. A small umbrella is essential in case of scorching rays or sudden downpours.

What can be tough for those used to temperate climates is Singapore’s high humidity – 60 to 90% on average throughout the year, so be prepared to sweat it out. Pack light materials or bring a small fan or hankie around with you. Anyone basking under the afternoon sun who’s not on the beach is definitely a tourist – be sure to slap on the sunblock!

Funnily enough, it tends to be a lot colder indoors than outdoors because shopping malls and central cooling overcompensate for the heat.

A scarf or a light jacket will keep you warm, offer extra sun protection and are the perfect cover-up if you plan to visit religious buildings.

3. Singapore is an independent country

With a majority Chinese population, some people mistakenly assume that Singapore is a part of China, which is not the case. Most Chinese Singaporeans are descendants of southeastern Chinese immigrants who sailed across the seas decades ago.

Singapore may be hard to spot on a map, but you’ll find it just south of the Malaysian peninsula in Southeast Asia, four hours away from China by plane. On that note, despite its proximity and commonalities in shared culture and history, Singapore is also not a part of Malaysia, though it was very briefly back in 1963 before Singapore became fully independent in 1965, making next year – 2025 – the 60th anniversary of the republic.

4. Most Singaporeans speak excellent English

Singapore is an easy place for Western tourists to explore on their own because of the widespread use of English here. Fun fact: Singapore actually has four official languages: Mandarin, Bahasa Melayu and Tamil represent the three major ethnic groups found here (Chinese, Malay and Indian respectively), and English is the main language used in schools and for business, which also allows for conversation across ethnicities.

5. Natural disasters are unlikely in Singapore

Singapore may not have scenic mountain ranges or awe-inspiring topography, but it’s also out of the path of any major tectonic movement. You are unlikely to face any major natural disasters – no earthquakes, volcanos, typhoons or sandstorms here.

In the worst case, there may be flash floods during particularly rainy periods or haze blanketing the island from forest fires around the region, but these are usually temporary and minor inconveniences.

6. Singapore is a safe and stable place to visit

Singapore is also well-known for its generally stable political and business climate, often ranked as one of the least corrupt countries in the world. Strikes that can disrupt travel plans are practically nonexistent here.

The crime rate in Singapore is also relatively low with lots of surveillance and a police force that people trust in. As a single woman, I’ve never been too worried about wandering around Singapore on my own even at night, but do maintain some common sense for your own safety as one of our popular slogans here goes: low crime doesn’t mean no crime.

Asian lady and a mature man enjoy their meal. The lady is laughing at something, while the man is concentrating on his food.

7. Carry both cash and credit cards

How many Singapore dollars you change before your trip largely depends on where you plan to go . Most major tourist attractions and shops in shopping malls will accept credit cards, and other cashless options like contactless payments and smart wallets are also common.

Those planning to take public transport in Singapore can use their credit cards on the public buses and MRT card readers for convenience, but purchasing a local EZ-Link card or transport pass may be more worthwhile depending on how much travel you plan to do. However, do carry some cash around with you as it remains the prevalent method of payment for most small businesses, eating at hawker center stalls, or taking a taxi. Try to break notes of larger denominations ($50/$100) into smaller ones ($2/$5/$10) when possible.

8. Prebook attractions to avoid waiting in line

There’s a joke that a Singaporean’s favorite pastime is to queue for things, but that’s not something you want to waste time on. If there is an option to prebook tickets online or make a reservation, just do it. This is key on busy weekends and peak vacation periods like the mid- and year-end school holidays.

An attraction’s official website is usually the best place to get tickets, but browse other booking platforms before you check out as these sites may offer special seasonal discounts or multi-bundle prices. Also check the Visit Singapore website as it sometimes runs incentive programs for tourists.

Haji Lane in the Kampong Glam quarter, which is famous for its cafes, restaurants and shops.

9. Tipping is not expected

Tipping is not expected in Singapore. If you’re eating out in a restaurant or cafe, there is usually a 10% service charge included in the bill. Some places may have a tip box but otherwise, additional tips are not mandatory or expected, though they are appreciated in the service line.

10. Understand the art of "chope-ing"

If you are eating at food centers or working at co-working spaces, particularly within the central business district, you may notice empty tables with strategically placed items like umbrellas, tissue packets or lanyards on the seats. This is a local practice to "chope" or reserve a seat while everyone is queuing up at the stalls. Most people honor this informal reservation system and will look elsewhere for available seats.

11. Yes, you can drink the tap water

There's no need to buy bottled water in Singapore. The tap water here is treated and perfectly safe to drink. You'll find that most attractions have water coolers where you can refill your reusable bottles while you're out and about during the day.

How to Plan the Perfect Singapore Trip (Budget + Itinerary)

By: Author Taylor Lorenz

How to Plan the Perfect Singapore Trip (Budget + Itinerary)

During my first backpacking trip around Southeast Asia I had no desire to visit Singapore. Most people told me it wasn’t worth it because it was so expensive and that 1-2 days in the city was enough for a Singapore trip.

They couldn’t have been more wrong.

When I scored a cheap deal to Singapore from Canada I was excited to visit a new country and as I began to research I realized there were a ton of things to do in Singapore, many Singapore attractions that were worth seeing and ways that you could do Singapore on a budget.

Singapore is the easiest place that I have ever travelled to. Everything on the island nation is done  so well.  It is also extremely safe, there is an abundance of food to try, it is extremely tourist friendly and many languages are spoken (plus the locals are so helpful helping you find where to go in Singapore!).

The only downside is that Singapore is expensive compared to the rest of Southeast Asia but if you let that stop you from visiting then you are seriously missing out. Keep reading to find out what to do in Singapore for an amazing 3-5 days with this easy Singapore travel guide that will help you plan a trip to Singapore without a hassle.

Singapore Fast Facts

Singapore is both a city and a country that is officially known as the Republic of Singapore located just off the southern tip of Peninsula Malaysia.

  • Currency: Singapore dollar
  • Languages: English, Malay, Tamil and Mandarin (the official language is Malay)
  • Population: 5.6 million
  • Religion:  Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Christianity

Singapore Itinerary

I don’t recommend staying in Singapore any less than 3 days so below is a Singapore trip itinerary for 3-5 days in the city.

Things to do in Singapore: Day 1

To start off your trip to Singapore on day one you should check out the best places to visit in Singapore in 3 days. Head off to the Botanic Gardens, which are completely free. The gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are 158 years old. A part of the gardens is paid entry, the National Orchid Garden but for only $5 I think it’s worth it. There are great photo opportunities, the flowers are stunning and you’ll even find orchids made for people who have visited the gardens such as Obama.

Make your way to Orchard Road, a famous street in Singapore known for its shopping and high-end stores. You can walk underground through the malls with air conditioning for a break from the heat. There are also lots of food options through the malls.

Hop on the MRT at Somerset and get off at Marina Bay. Here is where you’ll find the most iconic Singapore sightseeing and the most famous activities in Singapore are all here. There is more shopping here but you’ll want to step outside and walk around the bay so you can get pictures of the famous Marina Bay Sands hotel and check out other sights such as Merlion Park. A Merlion is Singapore’s mascot and is half lion and half fish. At the park there is a big 8.5m statue that shoots water out of its mouth.

Keep walking and you’ll come across the Helix Bridge, a unique pedestrian bridge that you’ll want to see both during the day and at night. For the afternoon and evening, you’ll want to stay around this area so kill some time by visiting the Singapore Flyer (a huge ferris wheel for epic views) or the Art Science Musuem (the building shaped like a blooming flower in the bay).

For the evening you have two light shows to watch: the Wanderful light and water show and the Gardens by the Bay light show at the supertrees. You can see both in one night as they are timed perfectly for you to walk from one to the other without missing anything. Stand to the left of Louis Vuitton for the Wanderful light and water show. It plays at 7:45 and 8:45 and is 15 minutes. The Gardens by the Bay light show plays at 8, 9 and 10 and also lasts 15 minutes. I recommend heading directly under the trees and laying on your back to watch the show. It’s epic from this angle!

To finish your first day off grab a drink at the Marina Bay Sands hotel. It’s free to go to the bar and there is no dress code before 10PM. A drink up here will set you back about $25 including tax but for the view it’s worth it and the drinks are delicious!

Things to do in Singapore: Day 2

Take the morning to explore Chinatown. It is packed with food options and plenty of Singapore tourist spots that are worth seeing. You can take a free tour of Chinatown so you can learn a bit of history around this area as well. Some of the top sights to see are the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, the Sri Mariamman Temple (a Hindi temple) and Thien Hock Keng Temple which is a temple that was built without using a single nail. It’s also a great area for pictures as many of the buildings are stunning with European tiles and colourful shutters.

For lunch you can visit the cheapest Michelin star restaurant in the world, Hawker Chan, or stop by Maxwell Road Hawker Market which is one of the best places to eat in the city and has so many options.

For the afternoon make your way back over to Gardens by the Bay and explore this area by day. Some of the attractions here include OCBC Walkway where you can walk on a suspended bridge between the supertrees, the cloud forest or the flower dome. There are even more attractions and you can find them all here and their prices .

For the evening I recommend visiting the Singapore Zoo and doing the Night Safari . Singapore has one of the best zoo’s in the world and the night safari was excellent with shows, multiple walking paths and a trolley that took you throughout the grounds introducing you to nocturnal animals.

Things to do in Singapore: Day 3

You can’t visit Singapore and miss Little India. The area is packed with colourful, busy streets and delicious smelling food. Take half a day to explore the area and see top sights such as Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, the Tekka Centre for food, House of Tan Teng Niah (the most colourful house on the entire island) and the temple of 1000 lights. There are also free tours that run through Little India .

While in the area head over to the Arab Quarter for pictures and the shops that are packed with textiles. Haji Lane is amazing for pictures and comes alive at night. But during the day you can snap some pictures of all the street art. Close by and just off of Arab Street is Sultan Mosque which is stunning to see.

Keep walking around this area but head closer to Bujis shopping mall keeping an eye open for cool shots as this area is packed with cool places such as the Bujis mall itself and Park View Square.

For the afternoon make your way to Mount Faber Park for some time in nature in the city and for some cool views over Singapore. You can choose to walk up the hill, take the cable car or grab a taxi to the top. You could also do this in the morning, but do it early to avoid the hordes or tourists! Hederson Bridge is also in the park and is the tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore.

Just before it gets dark head to Clarke Quay to see the colourful buildings of this area and don’t miss the Old Street Hill Police Station, it is adorable! Kick around here for the night as this is the place to party and a top place to eat.

Things to do in Singapore: Day 4

After 3 days in Singapore in the heat it’s time to switch things up for 4 days in Singapore. There is a beach! It’s on Sentosa which is an island made for tourists but it’s a ton of fun. There are multiple beaches, an abundance of food options and no shortage of things to do on Sentosa. There is a waterpark, a Universal Studios , dolphin shows, bungee jumping, Madame Tussauds…do I need to go on? You can find all of the attractions and prices here .

Things to do in Singapore: Day 5

The past 4 days of this Singapore itinerary are packed so choose to use day 5 to do some of the things previously mentioned and take the days a little slower or you can continue your 5 days in Singapore being busy. Some other Singapore sights include Haw Par Villa, a theme park with Chinese folklore that is free to enter. There are many museums to check out, more options at the zoo such as the River Safari or the observation deck in the Marina Bay Sands hotel.

Lastly, if you’re travelling to Singapore with kids check out this article for the best Singapore attractions to visit as a family.

Best Time to Visit Singapore

When planning a trip to Singapore you never have to worry about weather as there is no bad time to visit Singapore! Seriously. Singapore has consistent weather year round with an average temperature of 27°C (81°F) but it will feel quite a bit hotter with the humidity. Rain is also expected year round and unfortunately can’t be avoided.

Singapore is a massive hub for business and finance so there is never a down time for hotels. Prices remain consistent throughout the year.

There are a few peak times that you may want to avoid which are November through to early January, June and July. These months are the most popular due to holidays such as the Chinese New Year and big shopping events and festivals.

Singapore Trip Budget

As I mentioned before Singapore is significantly more expensive than the rest of Southeast Asia. But there are ways to save! One thing to note is that alcohol is highly taxed in Singapore so I recommend saving those party nights for elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

Expect to have a budget of $60-80SGD ($45-60USD/$57-75CAD) per day. This is a cheap budget that will allow you to stay in hostels, eat at hawker stalls and take public transit.

Hostels can be found for $15-25 with cheap hotels and Airbnb costing double and hotels will double that price or more. Eating cheap is easy, just check out the hawker stalls where you can grab a delicious meal for $4-6. A small beer at a hawker stall will cost around $3-4.

If you’re looking for a Singapore budget trip I recommend taking the free tours, there are many and only require a tip and carefully choose which main attractions you want to see. You’d be surprised with how many attractions are free and eating in hawker stalls will have you on a more typical Southeast Asia budget.

There is no reason to take anything other than public transport in Singapore as it is so reliable and affordable. Getting to and from the airport you can catch the MRT which is your cheapest option ($3) to the city, a shuttle ($9) which is direct to most hotels and hostels or a taxi which costs between $20-35. Surcharges do apply to certain times. You can find more information about airport transportation on the Changi Airport website .

Singapore Transport

Singapore is a big city. I recommend walking around as much as you can so you can see plenty of the city but with the heat and humidity sometimes it’s best to take public transit. Buses and the MRT are air conditioned and offer a nice break from the heat.

Both are extremely easy to use and affordable. You can get to all major attractions just with the MRT except for the zoo. And just try and get lost, you won’t because each station has exceptional directions and signage.

One option is to get a tourist pass for 1-3 days ranging from $10, $16 and $20 that include unlimited rides on transit. A $10 deposit is required but is refunded when you leave. A second option is to buy a trasnit card for $12. The card costs $5 but is yours to keep and is loaded with $7. With this card rides are cheaper and the purchase of the card is worth it. I would only recommend buying individual tickets if you are taking minimal rides on the MRT.

Cards can be bought at the MRT station at the airport and returned to get back the remaining balance left on your card if your purchased it.

15 Useful Things to Know Before Visiting Singapore

Pedestrian zone Pagoda street, Singapore

Singapore has a reputation for rules and social conduct, so prepare yourself with this insider knowledge before visiting the country.

Travelling to Singapore can be both an exciting and unnerving experience, as there are a number of laws and customs to memorise. If you are visiting soon, here are 15 useful things to know before visiting Singapore. You’ll be blending in with the locals in no time.

Flip flops are the footwear of choice

Flip flops might not be high fashion – but with Singapore’s tropical (and unpredictable) climate, they have become an obvious choice for many. Like many other countries in Southeast Asia, Singapore doesn’t observe four seasons but experiences weather patterns that depend on the monsoon seasons (i.e dry weather for the beginning of the year and wet towards the end). That said, passing showers are common in Singapore, even if it is blistering hot (so carrying an umbrella wouldn’t hurt too).

One of the biggest pet peeves of Singaporeans? Being stereotyped by tourists. The last thing you should do is walk up to a local and assume he or she can’t speak English. Despite the varying cultural makeup of Singaporeans, English has always been taught in schools as a primary language, followed by a student’s mother tongue, which is likely to be either Malay, Mandarin or Tamil. However, Culture Trip recommends brushing up on your Singlish if you want to really earn brownie points with locals.

Taxis in Singapore are metered and regulated

Taxi drivers in Asia have got quite a bad reputation for inflating fares for tourists. This practice is almost impossible in Singapore, where taxis are regulated and distances are fairly calculated through the meter. In fact, with the introduction of cheaper services like Grab and Uber in Singapore, hailing a taxi is no longer a painstaking process as locals generally avoid them due to the high price.

Singapore’s train network gets you virtually anywhere

Due to the small size of the city, getting from one point to another in Singapore is not time-consuming. Major landmarks are also well-connected through a comprehensive train network, which gets you from suburban parts of Singapore to the heart of the city under 30 minutes. Read up on how to navigate transport in Singapore .

Wi-Fi hotspots are almost everywhere

If the thought of exploring a city without a data connection scares you, then this is good news. While the majority of cafes and restaurants provide a free Wi-Fi connection, public spaces like libraries and shopping malls are powered by “Wireless@SG” – a free connection for anyone, including tourists! All you have to do is input your mobile number for an OTP (one-time password) and you’re all set.

Reserve your seat with packets of tissues

Should you decide to have a meal at one of the many hawker centers , look out for tables with packets of tissues scattered on them. In a local context, this indicates that the table has been “choped”, or reserved. Probably one of Singapore’s quirkiest habits, many locals are still doing it (though they may get creative and use umbrellas instead), so keep this in mind while you hunt for a spot!

Singapore’s “Chope-ing” Culture

You are not required to tip

Unlike many western countries, it is not compulsory for diners to tip service staff in Singapore. This is because most restaurants or cafes will impose a 10% service charge on top of your final bill. Does that count as an indirect tip? Maybe, but individual staff usually do not receive a cut from it. That said, the act of tipping itself isn’t illegal, and you can still make someone’s day with a tip should you feel like it!

Going up the escalator? Keep to the left

An unspoken rule that many abide, it is a common sight to see people forming a single line on the left side of the escalator. You might be scratching your head if you are seeing this for the first time, but this orderly behaviour is part of an old campaign in Singapore to help promote the act of courtesy. The rationale? Keeping the right side empty allows people who are rushing to quickly climb their way through without interruptions.

The only local coffee with more than 10 variations

Ordering a coffee in Singapore is an artform – the traditional local brew consists of black brewed coffee, condensed milk and evaporated milk. Over the years, locals have been customising their own morning cuppas, introducing new names like “ Kopi-O ” (black coffee), “ Kopi-C ” (black coffee with evaporated milk), “ Kopi Gao ” (thicker coffee) and “ Kopi Siew-dai ” (a less sweet variant of the regular coffee). While the list of names goes on, take comfort in the fact that a cup of aromatic and robust coffee is only a coffee shop away.

Watch out for priority seats on the bus and trains

All trains and buses in Singapore include reserved seating allocated for pregnant women, the elderly and physically handicapped. They are mostly located at the two corners in a row of seats (as it is closer to the exit) and the front of the bus. These seats aren’t only for specific groups of people – passengers are encouraged to give up their seat to anyone who needs it more.

Never go hungry with 24 hour restaurants

It’s a known fact that Singaporeans are passionate about their food . Which is why you can find countless places in Singapore that stay open all day and night to feed the city that never sleeps! Whether you are in the mood for some comforting dim sum, hearty Indian curry or some chilli crab, your destination for some midnight grub is just around the corner.

You can’t buy alcohol or drink in public after 10.30 pm

If you’ve ever romanticised about enjoying the enchanting views of Singapore’s skyline at night with a beer in hand, do it in a licensed bar or risk getting a fine! Since the infamous riot that took place on Race Course Road in 2013, local authorities have banned the purchase and consumption of alcohol in public between 10. 30 pm and seven am. This isn’t entirely bad news – you can still enjoy a tipple or two while overlooking Singapore’s skyline at the many rooftop bars like Ce La Vi or 1-Altitude .

Smoking is only allowed in designated areas

Smoking in Singapore isn’t illegal , but there are strict regulations in place. For example, you cannot smoke indoors, at public bus stops or even under sheltered walkways. There are designated smoking points in most areas, but if you are new to the area they might require some hunting. So what happens if you are caught? You can be fined as much as $1,000 if you are convicted in court!

Explore Singapore from new heights

If you are constantly on the lookout for outdoor experiences, try exploring the various nature trails in Singapore , which range from beginner to intermediate levels. From the deep mangroves of Sungei Buloh to the gorgeous view atop Mount Faber, spending a day on any of Singapore’s nature trails will expose you to its rich wildlife and provide a unique urban escape in one of Asia’s greenest cities.
