Private tour guides

Your driver-guide will have a wide range of knowledge, the background history of towns, entertaining local stories and cultural tales to enthral and delight. Your driver-guide is there to help with luggage, book restaurants, handle tickets and generally be a personal concierge. Where specialist knowledge is required, or restrictions apply at castles, stately homes and museums your driver-guide will advise on the day. We can also book additional tour guides for VIP and private tours of stately homes, museums and places of historical interest, such as UNESCO world heritage sites.

Self-drive vacations

A totally different experience from just booking a car for a period of time. You will have a stress-free well-thought-out handover, genuine expert advice, and be provided a detailed hand-highlighted road map. In addition, we take the time to plan your itinerary with various options, post codes, drive-times, hotel bookings, restaurant booking and provide general concierge services throughout your vacation. We will have a professional guide meet you on your first day of driving to go over maps, mark out routes, and offer tips of the trade. Note: We provide high-end vehicles including Range Rover, Land Rover, Mercedes, Jaguar, and Lexus.

Chauffeur-driven service

We provide friendly and professional drivers, who have experience touring the country and skills to negotiate city centres. It is a pleasure to be driven by a prepared, safe and skilful chauffeur. Helping with doors, luggage and showing concern for your comfort and safety, that’s what it means to be a professional chauffeur.  We sanitise, vacuum and prepare our vehicles before every job. Services provided can extend to corporate wait and return, as directed by passenger, chauffeur-driven day tours from London and extended chauffeur-driven tours of the entire UK.

VIP experiences

Private tours of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, go behind the scenes of a West End show or a jaw-dropping flash-mob surprise. Your vacation to Britain will be a special event, a milestone birthday, mark your 50th, 60th or 70th with a series of moments of fun for you and your loved ones. While on honeymoon take the Belmont boat (Pic below-left) for a cruise down the Thames from Cliveden House (PICTURED BELOW). We are here to add those VIP touches that will make your Luxury Vacation extra special without the enormous price tag.

Hotels to match your style

Part of what makes your vacation unique is where you stay. We have the knowledge to match accommodation preferences with your budget.  There are an incredible variety of places to stay in Britain and Ireland. Stay in castle style hotels, historic manor house hotels, and homely guest houses all on a single tour of Britain and Ireland.  Stay in a private castle, gatehouse, folly, fort, lighthouse or historic country cottage this is often the way the British enjoy Britain. Be surrounded by glorious countryside but walking distance to a genuine village pub and be intrigued by living, but for a short time somewhere special.

Thank you all for your nice comments

Our clients return year after year simply because they know we care about their vacation; we want to Make-it-Special, every time. We craft our private tailor-made tours carefully, offer individual access, and make sure our value far exceeds the price. We would like to thank our clients who have taken the time to write and wish us well and appreciate us. Many thanks - The Luxury Vacations UK team.

My family from the US came over for my birthday celebrations in March and arranged a 2-day private tour with Andrew and Graham. In a nutshell, it was amazing. It was just before lock-down when things were starting to close and have limited access, but Andrew managed to change the schedule accordingly to ensure that still we got the most out of the tour.

He and Graham were great company and by the end of the 2 days' we had all bonded! My cousin uses a wheelchair and they seem-lessly assisted him in and out of the vehicle.

We had a great time and saw so much in a short time. Andrew's extensive knowledge on each destination was captivating and his passion for the subjects he talked about was evident.

Highly recommend - you will have an amazing time! Thank you again :)

Lisa F Private tour of Royal London

We came in for a week to visit family and did a private and personalized tour of the London area with Luxury Vacations UK. Everything went fabulous! We had two tour guides, Andrew and Graham, and traveled in style in a very comfortable 15 seat Mercedes minibus for two full days. They even had a professional SLR camera and took some nice group photos for us. Their friendly nature and deep personal knowledge of British history made the experience of visiting some of the castles and churches only that much better.

There were some special needs for one of us and they took care of getting a scooter rented and available for us the whole time we were there. if you are planning to visit the UK, and want to do it "right" then I highly recommend their services. Thanks again Luxury Vacations UK!

Michael M The only way to see London! - Private tour of Royal London

We used their services for a week when we visited London in May of 2019. They were very professional, on time in picking us up at our hotel, and the van was impeccable. Also, they bought the tickets for the attractions we visited which was so helpful for a party of 18.

We were delighted with the tour guides and driver who were wonderful to us. Especially Andrew, who upon learning of our granddaughter's birthday, bought her a book about birds which she loves.

I would highly recommend them and would certainly use them again.

Barnard P Luxury tour of London

Luxury vacations tour of Wales and England Our group of four ladies had a fabulous five day private tour with Luxury Vacations. After a one day tour in London, our private guide Chris Abbott joined us for the remainder of our trip. Chris was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, easy going, fun and flexible. Chris was even able to put up with four loud, laughing ladies for four days—quite a gentleman.

The staff at Luxury Vacations were polite and made it easy to plan our trip. They worked with us to plan a trip that catered to our specifications. Our accommodations were picturesque and high end.

Vivian T Luxury Vacations tour of England and Wales

England and Wales 5 days I was one of the four ladies traveling with Vivian T. I totally agree with her review about Luxury Vacations UK's itinerary for our trip and accommodations. Chris Abbott was truly a knowledgeable, friendly, and personable guide and driver. I would definitely use this company with Chris as guide for our trip to Ireland in the near future. Gary G.

Braw Scottish Tours, 15 Linkwood Gardens, Glasgow, G15 7SY | Partnered with DABA Tourism Marketing

Proudly overlooking the nation’s capital city, Edinburgh Castle is one of the oldest, attractive, and interesting fortified places in Europe. Alongside hosting the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny, each section of the Castle has an exciting tale to tell, whether that’s as a Royal residence, military garrison, or more ominously, as a prison and fortress.

Loch Ness - Urquhart Castle

A good many facts make Loch Ness stand out among other Scottish lakes. It is the second-largest Scottish lake with a surface area of 56 km 2  (the largest being Loch Lomond), but due to its great depth, it is the largest by volume in the British Isles. Its deepest point is 230 m, making it the second deepest loch in Scotland after Loch Morar. It also contains more freshwater than all the lakes in England and Wales combined!

Take a tour around the Loch’s vast banks or perhaps a private cruise on it’s blue waters – get in touch with our guides today to start building your perfect tour!

Arthur's Seat Edinburgh

Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano and is the main peak of the group of hills in Edinburgh. On your private tour, we can drive straight over the top of this hill (or you may enjoy a short hike instead) where we shall have wonderful views of the city.

Glencoe in springtime

You’d be able to pay a visit to the magnificent Glencoe Mountains for the day from a variety of starting points in Scotland.

The areas around Glencoe have hikes suitable for a wide range of activity levels so don’t worry if you don’t want to climb up to the top – we’ll still manage to get to some incredible viewpoints, particularly of the ‘Three Sisters’ scenic area.

Isle of Skye storr at sunset

Isle of Skye

Take a day trip to the magical Isle of Skye with your very own private driver-guide. Skye is filled with stunning natural views, quaint towns, beautiful beaches & fascinating history. You could spend weeks touring the Island’s sites, including The Fairy Glen, The Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls Viewpoint, Skye Museum of Island Life, Dunvegan Castle & Gardens or even a wee taste of our local spirit at the Talisker Whisky Distillery!

Whatever your tastes or interests, our guides will plan the perfect day trip for you and your group!

Eilean donan Castle

The famous Eilean Donan: a small tidal island where three sea lochs meet, Loch Duich, Loch Long, and Loch Alsh, in the western Highlands of Scotland. A picturesque castle that frequently appears in photographs, film, and television dominates the island, which lies about 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) from the village of Dornie. Since the castle’s restoration in the early 20th century, a footbridge has connected the island to the mainland.

The castle was founded in the thirteenth century and became a stronghold of the Clan Mackenzie and their allies the Clan Macrae. In the early eighteenth century, the Mackenzies’ involvement in the Jacobite rebellions led in 1719 to the castle’s destruction by government ships. Lieutenant-Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap’s twentieth-century reconstruction of the ruins produced the present buildings.

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

Cliffs of Moher

Rising over 200 meters high and spanning 8 kilometers along the wild Atlantic coast, the Cliffs provide stunning views of the Aran Islands with the ocean crashing below. Your driver-guide will be able to inform you of all the folklore and myths that surround this incredible testament to the beauty of nature.

Giant's Causeway, Ireland

Visit a jewel in the crown of the fabulous Causeway Coast: Giant’s Causeway. A site of World Heritage and therefore ranked alongside Mount Everest and the Giant Redwoods of California for its importance to humankind. Welcome to one of the most amazing places on the planet; The Causeway comprises around 40,000 mostly hexagonal basalt columns descending gently into the sea. Depending on who you believe, the stones were formed either by an underwater volcano’s geological actions or by an Irish giant named Finn McCool, who lived and battled along the north Antrim Coast. However, it was formed, it is a fabulous way to spend an hour.

Ring of Kerry

Ring of Kerry

The Ring of Kerry is the ring road that follows the coastal contours of Kerry’s Iveragh Peninsula. The Ring is one of Ireland’s most famous circuits, but it’s much more than a simple driving route, the Ring of Kerry is an iconic destination wrapped in stunning visual history.

This scene-stealing route beginning and ending in Killarney takes in all the big hitters – Moll’s Gap, the Torc Waterfall, and the Gap of Dunloe are places you will see, but really, the route itself is so much more than the sum of its parts.

Kylemore Abbey, Ireland

The iconic Kylemore Abbey was built in the late 1800s by Mitchell Henry MP, a wealthy businessman, and liberal politician, who, inspired by his love for his wife Margaret, and his hopes for his beloved Ireland, created an estate boasting ‘all the innovations of the then modern age’. Kylemore is now owned and run by the Benedictine community who have been in residence here since 1920.

Temple Bar District, Dublin, Ireland

See firsthand why the Irish are so famous for their drinking culture by exploring the wonderful selection of traditional bars that fill the street with the sound of laughter and traditional Irish music.

Enjoy a guided tour through some of London’s most favored royal parks which leads your attention to the home and office of Her Majesty the Queen: Buckingham Palace. You will hear fascinating stories about the Palace, including break-ins, parties, and romance. It will then be time for your private guide to escort you to the best watching place for the Changing of The Guard.

Tower Bridge, London, England

Tower of London

With its history stretching back to just after the Norman Conquest, this mix of Palace and fortress holds so much history, and so many stories, within its walls.  During your visit, you could take a peek at the crown jewels, hear about the glamorous and more gruesome side to The Towers past AND meet some of its most famous residents, the Ravens and Yeoman Warders – perhaps better known as The Beefeaters.  The Tower of London has something for everyone, so whether you’re into impressive suits of armor, incredible (Royal level) bling or, you fancy seeing the modern City of London from the top of its medieval walls the Tower of London won’t disappoint.

Stonehenge

This is your opportunity to actually get out amongst the sacred stones.  Allow your guide to transport you back in time almost 5000 years as they build a vividly descriptive story  putting you in the place of ancient pagans paying homage at the temple.

When it comes to folklore, myth, and legend, there is perhaps no other site in the world quite like Stonehenge and your private guide for the day will ensure that  you will leave having formed a lasting and meaningful bond with this very special and unique site .

Cotswolds 2

When you see images of the beautiful rolling green hills of the English countryside, it’s usually the Cotswolds. Honey-colored cottages with thatched roofs, rolling hills, brooks, streams, and stone villages.

Notable quaint villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury & Burford will be a selection of the towns that you will be able to visit.

Perhaps the most photographic of Wales’ many castles, Cardiff Castle features still-intact sections constructed more than 1,000 years ago!

Highlights include the State Apartments, notable for its informative displays relating to life in the castle over the ages, as well as the attractive old chapel. Other notable features include the well-preserved Banqueting Hall with its medieval murals and elaborate fireplace.

Snowdonia

Snowdonia & Mount Snowden

Visit the world-famous Snowdonia National Park and Mount Snowden: At 3,546 feet high, Mount Snowden is the tallest peak in Wales (and England for that matter) and is the jewel in the crown of Snowdonia National Park – a beautiful range of mountains and hills located in the county of Gwynedd. When it comes to stunning areas of natural beauty, Snowdonia is a must-visit on any trip to Wales.

Popular with hikers and mountain bikers, the incredible views from the summit of Mount Snowden can also be reached by a mountain railway service – described as one of the most scenic railway journeys in the world.

Caernarfon Castle, Wales

Visit a 13th-century castle widely recognized as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages: Caernarfon Castle.

Architecturally the structure echoes imperial Roman architecture, especially the walls of Constantinople. They also recalled the Welsh myth of Macsen Wledig, who dreamed of a great fort at the mouth of a river – ‘the fairest that man ever saw’.

So Caernarfon is a castle of dreams. A legend brought to life. Even after 700 years it still stirs the imagination like no other Welsh castle.

Brecon Beacons National Park

Brecon Beacons National Park

Spend a couple of hours exploring the impressive Brecon Beacons National Park and Visitor Center. Renowned for its undeniable natural beauty, your guide will take you on a hike of your choice to take in some of the views across the famous Welsh valleys before we head back to your tour vehicle and continue onto our next stop of the day:

National Museum Cardiff

Undoubtedly topping the list of the best things to do for free in Cardiff, this major attraction houses impressive collections focusing on archeology, zoology, and botany, as well as the arts.

The National Museum of Art is housed in the same building. This excellent art gallery features a number of works by some of the world’s most important artists, including Old Masters and Welsh painters.

Day 4: Liverpool

Rising to prominence both domestically and internationally during the Industrial Revolution, Liverpool’s docklands were a key port for imports and exports that led to the city gaining the moniker of the second city of the British Empire. Your tour planners will help you arrange a suitable venue for your dining experience, evening entertainment, and accommodation.

Day 5: Manchester & The Lake District

Bid farewell to the charming city of Liverpool and venture into the heart of North West England with your expert driver guide.

Discover the rich history and modern marvels of Manchester, a thriving metropolis known for its industrial heritage and vibrant cultural scene. Then, immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the Lake District, an enchanting region where serene lakes and majestic fells inspire awe and wonder.

On your tour of Manchester, you will enjoy guided tours of:

The John Rylands Library

private tour of John Rylands Library, Manchester, England

Manchester is a recognized UNESCO city of literature, and that is in no small part thanks to the rare books and manuscripts found within the remarkable Gothic architecture of the John Rylands Library within Manchester University. A must-visit destination on your tour, the library contains the ‘Manchester Fragment’, the earliest known fragment of the New Testament, part of St. John’s gospel.

Manchester Cathedral

A Grade 1 listed Masterpiece, Manchester Cathedral provided the stage that much of the city’s story and history has been played ever since Henry V decreed a church should be built here in 1421. The cathedral is the oldest building in Manchester and the Medieval gothic structure combines elegance and beauty of the stained glass windows and spirituality with the spooky vast underground network of crypts to explore with your private guide.

Your driver guide will now take you through The lake District National Park. Highlights from here include:

Manchester Museum of Science and Industry

Engage with interactive exhibits that showcase Manchester’s scientific and technological contributions to the world, from the development of the first programmable computer to the city’s vital role in the textile industry. This immersive experience will inspire curiosity and appreciation for the ingenuity that has shaped our modern world.

Today you will cross the border into Scotland, the land of Whisky distilleries, Haggis Neeps & Tatties, glorious Lochs, and magical Castles.

On your driver-guided tour from the Lake District to Edinburgh, the perfect place to stop for lunch while admiring the scenery is Moffat, a picturesque town in southern Scotland.

Located halfway between the two destinations, Moffat provides a serene break from the drive. Visit the charming Waterside Café, nestled along the banks of the River Annan. The café offers delicious locally-sourced dishes, catering to a variety of dietary preferences. Enjoy a leisurely meal on their outdoor terrace, where you can take in the idyllic views of the river, the lush greenery, and the quaint stone bridge.

Some of the sites you will discuss with your guide are St Giles Cathedral where you will discover its links to John Knox and learn why it is known as the “Cradle of Presbyterianism”, Greyfriars Kirk & Graveyard, and the monument to Greyfriars Bobby, the Scottish Terrier who spent 14 years guarding his owner’s grave and the.

Scotch Whisky Experience

In the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, The Scotch Whisky Experience opened in 1987 when the Scottish Whisky industry combined to fund this showcase celebrating the history and development of Scotch whisky.

Your tour features an interactive trip through the production of Scotch, a session exploring the regional variations in scent and flavor between the different Scotch regions, and of course a tasting experience within the walls of the World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky.

Your accommodation for the evening will be in the center of the old town.

Day 7: Edinburgh Highlights Tour

external view of edinburgh castle with fountain in focus in foreground

Today you can take advantage of being able to spend the whole day in Edinburgh by visiting the most famous and iconic sites in the capital. Your guided tours for the day include:

Climb the Walter Scott Monument

The 200-foot high monument to the author of legendary Scottish literature like Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, and Waverley stands rises imperiously into the sky just a stone’s throw from Waverley station and is decorated with 64 characters representing characters from his books and poems.

Arthur’s Seat

Enjoy a trip to the summit of Arthur’s Seat, the peak of a group of hills formed by an extinct Volcano that provides the finest views across the city.

Edinburgh Castle

The most famous landmark in Edinburgh, discover the fascinating historical tales and stories of scandal and intrigue surrounding the many famous figures intrinsic to the history of the castle such as Mary Queen of Scots, the Child King James the 6th, Oliver Cromwell, and many more.

Exhibits on display here include the oldest Crown Jewels in Britain – the Honors of Scotland, and The Stone of Destiny, an ancient symbol of Scotland’s monarchy where rulers were crowned.

Holyrood Palace

The Queen’s Scottish Palace and official residence in Scotland, crowning the iconic Royal Mile thoroughfare which runs from the Castle to the Palace.

Edinburgh Dungeon

The gruesome twosome Burke and Hare, infamous cannibal Sawney Bean, and The Witch of the Potterrow Port Agnes Finnie to name but a few, Edinburgh is a city with a dark and often bloody past and the Edinburgh Dungeon with its interactive live-action exhibitions is the most fun way to reveal this aspect of the city’s character.

Day 8: Loch Lomond - Glasgow

Your itinerary for today will see you travel from the Capital with your driver guide to Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city via one of the country’s most revered natural beauty spots.

boat sailing on Loch Lomond cruise

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs

The largest lake in the entirety of the UK by surface area, our tour planning specialists can arrange a private cruise along the loch to the waterfalls and woodland walks of Inversnaid where you can keep an eye out for the Wild Scottish Deer and wildlife roaming free.

After your Loch Lomond experience, you will rejoin your driver guide for the brisk 50-minute drive to Glasgow which is generally thought of as being Scotland’s cultural hub.

Some notable stops or attractions you might want to visit include:

  • Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum
  • Glasgow Cathedral
  • Glasgow University
  • The boutiques and artisan stores of Glasgow’s West End
  • Riverside Museum

Your accommodation will be in Glasgow for the evening in advance of your flight to Dublin from Glasgow airport the following morning.

Day 9 & 10: Dublin

view of bridges over River Liffey in Dublin.

After a short 55-minute flight, the remaining 2 days of your 10-day UK tour itinerary will be spent discovering the best of Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland. With its rich mix of history, tradition, and culture It seems like almost every building in Dublin has a story to tell.

Your driver guide will reveal the historic tales, fascinating characters, and distinctive Irish culture behind:

O’Connell Street & The General Post Office

A must-see for anyone with an interest in Irish history or the Easter uprising. The GPO was the spot where the Proclamation was read in 1916, for the very first time.

Trinity College

The oldest and perhaps most architecturally beautiful university in Ireland, founded in 1546 by King Henry VIII you will also find the hallowed ‘Book of Kells’ from 384 AD within its walls.

The Doors Of Dublin

You’ll never see two identical doors as you wander through Dublin city, and their unique and colorful charm gives the city an unmistakable character.

Guinness Storehouse

The homeland of Ireland’s national drink. We don’t believe that Guinness tastes the same anywhere else in the world, and you find out if you agree or not by pouring your own pint in the factory where it all started.

Whitefriar Street Church

Romantics will wish to visit the place of rest for the patron saint of lovers, St Valentine himself at Whitefriar Street Church.

Temple Bar District

Enjoy the traditional bars and music in the city’s Temple Bar district.

Irish Immigration Museum

See if you can trace your roots back to Ireland at the Irish Immigration Museum.

Kilmainham Gaol

Built in 1796 it served as a prison in former times where many Irish revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed by the British.

Dublin Castle

Commissioned by King John all the way back in 1204, and although the majority of what you can see now was actually constructed in the 18th century, the Record Tower from that era is still intact.

The castle is still in use for formal occasions and functions by the Irish government today and tours of the grounds are available at regular intervals.

Upon completion of your Dublin tour itinerary, your driver guide will transport you to Dublin airport and bid you a fond farewell as you leave the UK and Ireland behind and return home with a heart full of divine memories that will remain with you for a lifetime.
