New York to Miami Adventure

13 days | from the big city to the beach on a fun-filled journey.

SSYJ_USA_Memphis_Beale_street_pax_walk

Hit the road on a historical, scenic and musical pilgrimage from New York to Miami over 13 days. Admire the profound monuments of the USA’s capital, wind through the jaw-dropping Appalachian Mountains, hit up the live music along Honky-Tonk Highway, cruise the murky swamplands of the Mississippi and hit up buzzing Bourbon Street. Chill out in the Florida Panhandle, seek thrills in Orlando and boogie down in Miami. This carefully designed route encompasses everything from political history to musical legacies – and with less drive time and more jive time, you’re guaranteed to maximise your experiences in the essential destinations.

Trip overview

  • Discover the museums, memorials and monuments along the American History trail – from the significant sites of Philadelphia to the capital-city icons of Washington DC.
  • Pump up your camping experience in the jaw-dropping Appalachian Mountains. Share stories around the campfire in a truly spectacular spot.
  • Choose to cruise the murky marshlands of Honey Island and spot resident alligators in what’s considered to be one of the most natural and unspoiled river swamps in the country.
  • Get into the groove of Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans, lively cities notorious for their rich music and nightlife scenes.
  • Round off your adventure in Miami – bursting with beautiful beaches, great food and Cuban culture, there’s heaps of fun to be had.
  • This trip includes time spent travelling in a private vehicle with your group. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. It’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
  • Although our private vehicles do have air conditioning, it has to work pretty hard to keep a full group cool. Expect to feel hot during summer and cold at other times of the year, especially at night. Please consider the season and research the weather conditions to determine the best time to travel for you. Remember to come prepared with adequate clothing.
  • This trip involves either a partial or full camping experience, giving you access to more remote destinations at close proximity, and the joy of camping under the night skies and beside a campfire. This is a participatory trip – a fancy way of saying you’re not just along for the ride, but you are part of a team! Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help out with camp activities like food prep and washing up. It’s all about giving your new travel mates a hand, and everyone knows there’s nothing worse than trying to put up a tent on your own!
  • That teamwork also extends to our optional food kitty of approximately USD 15 per day, run to cover the cost of meals. This kitty saves you worrying about stuff like where to get food or what exactly sales tax is and helps keep your costs down. Instead of paying individually as you go, it means we can bulk purchase items and cook our own food – though there’s always the chance to use it for the occasional pizza night! The kitty is optional and for your convenience, so if you've got specific dietary requirements you can opt out and purchase (and cook) your own food.
  • Ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes. To make the most of the trip, it's best if you have at least a moderate level of fitness.

Your adventure begins near New York City (Jersey City), where you’ll meet up with your local leader and the travel buddies joining you on your journey. After a welcome meeting to find out what lies ahead, leave the Big Apple behind and begin your journey south. Your first stop is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s largest city. Here your leader will introduce you to Philly’s history and highlights, including the Old City, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Steps, made famous by the film ‘Rocky’. Enjoy some downtime to explore the city yourself, then hit the road and continue to the country’s capital, Washington, D.C.

Say goodbye to the glitz and glamour of 'Nashvegas' this morning as you continue your musical pilgrimage to the birthplace of rock and roll: Memphis, Tennessee. Join your leader on a short walking tour to familiarise yourself with the city. You'll head down bustling Beale Street, where traditional blues clubs and ritzier tourist traps rub shoulders – but don't worry, your leader will give you the lowdown on which bars are worth a look. The rest of the day is free to explore. If you have time, a must‐see in Memphis is Sun Studio, the 'Birthplace of Rock', which boasts the first recordings of legendary performers like Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis. For those with an interest in history, there's the National Civil Rights Museum (at the former Lorraine Motel) where Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated. This evening, why not head out for a famous Memphis‐style barbecue.

  • Memphis Downtown Orientation

It’s a long drive today as you head across the state of Mississippi and prepare to get down in New Orleans AKA the ‘Big Easy’ (approximately 8 hours). Get back to nature with a stop at Honey Island and perhaps opt for a tour down one of the least-altered river swamps in the country. It's pretty much in its original condition, almost a pristine wilderness and home to a variety of critters. Residents include nutrias (river rats), snakes and wild boars – spot alligators sunbathing on the banks and absorb the incredible scenery as you cruise through the eerie marshland. Continue your drive into New Orleans – with a mix of Creole, Cajun and European culture reflected in the city’s architecture, cuisine and music there’s plenty to explore and do. On arrival, your leader will point you in the direction of all the major attractions on a short walk of the eclectic French Quarter, the historic heart of the city, famous for its cast-iron balconies and vivacious nightlife. The rest of the time is yours! Perhaps take a walk down rowdy Bourbon Street or through the former plantation area of the Garden District, or head out for a typical Cajun-style dinner.

  • Hostel (multishare) (1 night)
  • Honey Island Swamp Tour
  • French Quarter Orientation

With no activities planned today and so much to explore in New Orleans, why not dig further into the rich and varied flavours that make New Orleans a food-lover’s haven on a French Quarter Food Tour. Or, (if you’re over the ripe old age of 21) get to grips with the city’s outstanding cocktail culture and sip away on your favourite concoctions on the New Orleans Cocktail Tour.

The adventure continues as you leave New Orleans and drive on to Destin, Florida. This coastal city, located in Florida’s panhandle, is known for its powdery white sand beaches and inviting turquoise waters. Spend the afternoon chilling out at Henderson Beach State Park – unroll your beach towel and get horizontal, cool off with dips in the sea or explore the sugar-like sand dunes.

  • Henderson Beach State Park Entrance

Leave Destin behind today and head into the heart of Florida to Orlando! Most known for its world-class amusement parks, the city is worth visiting in its own right. There are loads of lovely parks and museums, plus plenty of fun places to eat or pick up a cocktail. If there's time on arrival, you may like to go out and explore the town.

Today is a free day to explore Orlando's famous amusement parks and attractions. (at own expense) Most people opt for Walt Disney World or Universal Studios, but there are a host of other parks that might take your fancy. Islands of Adventure is one of the world's best theme parks and if the weather is nice, Orlando has a handful of water parks such as Wet'n Wild, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Each park is a full day's worth of action, so choose wisely. If theme parks aren’t your thing, your leader will have tips on the best way to spend a day here.

  • Orlando - Universal Studios Day Pass - USD120
  • Orlando - Walt Disney World Day Pass - USD110

If you plan to visit Walt Disney World or Universal Studios, we recommend that you pre-purchase your tickets online in advance in order to guarantee availability. Your leader will be available today to shuttle you to the parks.

Continue your journey south to Miami – this animated city has so much to offer, from its charming Art Deco architecture to gorgeous beaches and rich Cuban culture. On arrival, get a taste of Miami’s Cuban side as you join your leader on a walk through the Little Havana neighbourhood. Stroll its colourful streets as the residents sip coffee, smoke cigars and play dominos. Later on, you may like to make the most of your final evening and dive into Miami’s nightlife scene. With salsa halls, rooftop bars and late-night food trucks, there’s a great time to be had here.

New York to Miami

Brush up on your music knowledge, practice your ‘yeehaws’ and your ‘howdys’ and bring your taste for adventure (and citrus) as we travel from New York City to Miami, via the south. Explore the birthplace of rock and roll in Memphis, wander past historic monuments in the nation’s capital, and wake up in the Appalachian Mountains after an evening camping under the stars. Spend some time soaking up the country music history of Nashville – where everyone’s got a song to sing – and take it easy in the Big Easy, aka New Orleans. No need to practice your Southern drawl; the correct way to pronounce the city’s name is New Or-linz, not N’awlins. Watch the ocean flash by as you drive the endless highway to Key West and seek out a six-toed cat before you dance the night away in Miami.

Today, drive south towards the nation's capital of Washington DC, stopping at Philadelphia on the way for a guided walk around the highlights of the Old City. After touring around Philly, continue onto DC. Your evening is free to explore this compact city. Perhaps take an Urban Adventure and see the monuments of the National Mall lit up at night. The total driving time from New York to Washington DC will take about six hours.

Day 3 - Starting: Washington DC & Finishing: Washington DC

Today is free to explore Washington DC on your own. Perhaps head to the White House, take a tour of the National Museum of Natural History or stroll through the manicured park of the National Mall. Discover the cobbled streets, harbour or university in the historical district of Georgetown. In the evening, perhaps try some authentic American food at one of the many grill joints in town.

Day 4 - Starting: Appalachian Mountains & Finishing: Appalachian Mountains

Stop to stretch your legs under the impressive oak trees and admire the gorgeous views. Later in the afternoon, drive to your campsite for the night. Total driving today will take around five and a half hours.

Day 5 - Starting: Nashville & Finishing: Nashville

Drive for around six hours further south today to Nashville, Tennessee. Once settled into the campground perhaps visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, which contains the golden Cadillac that once belonged to Elvis. Another point of interest is Music Row, where more than 50 recording studios and approximately 200 music publishing houses are located. The Wildhorse Saloon is a great spot in the evening to experience authentic southern food and live music.

Day 6 - Starting: Memphis & Finishing: Memphis

Head west this morning to Memphis, which should take around four hours. Just out of the city you can visit Graceland, Elvis Presley's former home and the site of his tomb. Here you can see the famous jungle room, as well as his cars, private planes and much more. In the evening, consider heading down to check out Beale Street's traditional blues clubs, made famous by legends such as Louis Armstrong, Muddy Waters and B.B. King. For those with an interest in history, there's the National Civil Rights Museum (at the former Lorraine Motel) where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. If you have time, a must-see in Memphis is Sun Studio - the 'Birthplace of Rock'. It boasts the first recordings of legendary performers like Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Day 7 - Starting: New Orleans & Finishing: New Orleans

Today make the long drive across the state of Mississippi to New Orleans - the 'Big Easy' (approximately 6.5 hours). Founded by French traders in 1718, there are many layers of history in this city and its many attractions combine to make it one of the most visited cities in the USA – a trend that was momentarily halted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Use your free time in the late afternoon/evening getting to know the city. An eclectic mix of European, Creole and Cajun culture manifests in the city's architecture, cuisine and music scene. Possibly take a walk down rowdy Bourbon Street or through the former plantation area of the Garden District.

Day 8 - Starting: New Orleans & Finishing: New Orleans

Today is a free day for you to explore New Orleans. There's a welcome meeting at 6 pm to introduce the second leg of your trip, so please make sure you attend this. Before the meeting, perhaps head out on one of the many optional activities in the city. If the weather is nice, venture out on a Mississippi Riverboat Cruise, comb the French Market among the shops and flea markets or take a walk around the Preservation Hall for a history in jazz. In the evening, try some of the Cajun style food and beignets that New Orleans is famous for.

Day 9 - Starting: Panama City Beach & Finishing: Panama City Beach

It's quite a long drive today to Panama City Beach, which should take around six hours. Once there, the best way to recover is to flop on some of the 27 miles of white sand beach, or go for a dip in the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Panama City Beach is also renowned for its night clubs and parties, so if you have enough energy left at the end of the day you may choose to hit the town.

Day 10 - Starting: Orlando & Finishing: Orlando

Leave Panama City Beach behind today for another long drive of around six hours, as we head into the heart of Florida to Orlando. With its large Latino population, including many from Cuba, Orlando has an exciting and varied nightlife, as well as a plethora of shops and outlet malls. If there's time on arrival, you may like to go out and explore the town.

Day 11 - Starting: Orlando & Finishing: Orlando

Today is a free day to explore the amusement parks and attractions of Orlando. Most people opt for Walt Disney World or Universal Studios, but there are a host of other parks that might take your fancy. Islands of Adventure is one of the world's best theme parks and if the weather is nice, Orlando has a handful of water parks such as Wet'n Wild, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Each park is a full day's worth of action, so choose wisely.

Day 12 - Starting: Key West & Finishing: Key West

Get comfortable today for a long drive to Key West, which can take up to seven hours. As Florida's southernmost point, you'll travel across the Oversees Highway to this little slice of American paradise. On arrival to the island city, use your free time in the evening to recharge after a long day's drive.

Day 13 - Starting: Key West & Finishing: Key West

Today is free to explore. Key West is a town that has long been a haven for artists. The local area is famous for its pastel houses and laid-back attitude, and this combines to give the whole area a bohemian and relaxed feel. With the tip of Key West sitting around 90 miles north of Cuba, the water is warm and perfect for snorkelling and swimming among the reefs.

Day 14 - Starting: Miami & Finishing: Miami

Drive back across the Overseas Highway this morning to Miami, which will take around three hours. The trip finishes on arrival into Miami and no accommodation is provided tonight. The arrival time depends on each group, but if you decide to fly out on this day, please don't book a flight before 8pm. This will give you enough time to catch a shuttle from the hotel to the airport and be there two hours before departure. If you are staying in town for the evening, get another fix of sandy beaches and glorious sunshine down at SoBe (South Beach), stroll the art deco seafront or pose with the beautiful people in ultra-cool nightspots. This is a great way to spend the last night of your trip.. If you do wish to spend extra time in Miami we'll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability).

The Ultimate New to Miami Road Trip Itinerary

1. new york city, ny.

Empire State building at sunset

Journey time: 0 hours – you just started! Distance: 0 miles

Before you head out on this epic New York to Miami road trip I hope you take a few days (at least!) to explore one of the best cities on the planet!

Sure, I might be a little biased as a local, but NYC really does have something for everyone and you don’t want to miss exploring this amazing city.

If you’re not already living in the city, but looking to visit before you set out on your adventure, then I recommend spending AT LEAST 2-3 days in New York City.

True, this is hardly enough time to see EVERYTHING the city has to offer. But it’s definitely enough time to cram in some of the best things to do in NYC before you start your New York to Florida road trip.

So, what are some of the must-sees in the Big Apple? Well, obvs the Brooklyn Bridge , the Statue of Liberty , the Empire State Building, Time Square, MoMA , Central Park, The MET, and Rockefeller Center.

Just to name a few! And don’t even get me started on all the cool museums in NYC !

But in the event you do have an extremely limited amount of time here, then my 24 hours in NYC guide will ensure you see all of the best sites in the quickest amount of time possible!

Alternatively, if this isn’t your first rodeo in the city, maybe check out some of the more unusual things to do in NYC before your road trip.

But, if the city seems overwhelming and a bit expensive (I feel you), then be sure to make the most of all the amazing free things to do in NYC !

No matter what you do though, enjoy yourself. This city can change your life if you let it!

Best places to stay in NYC:

While NYC isn’t exactly known for its affordability, my list of the best NYC budget hotels has plenty of good options for non-locals to enjoy before setting out on their New York to Miami road trip.

And for those of you looking for some luxury during your stay, check out my picks for the best upper east side hotels instead.

Best places to eat in NYC:

NYC has the best food in the world. Yeah, go on. Fight me on this.

So, get started with this list of the places you must eat in NYC for all my top recommendations.

But if those suggestions aren’t unique enough for you, you can also dine at one of the top themed restaurants in NYC instead.

For my fellow veggies though, check out these mouth-wateringly delicious vegan restaurants in NYC . After all, this metropolis is home to some of the best vegan eateries in the world!

2. Philadelphia, PA

View of Philadelphia, one of the great stops on this New York to miami road trip.

Journey time: 1.5 – 2.5 hours (traffic out of the city can be BRUTAL) Distance: 94.5 miles

The first stop on your New York to Miami road trip is Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania.

There are a lot of fantastic things to do in Philadelphia and the city is home to some of the US’s most iconic historical sites – such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

Yes, THE Liberty Bell. The one that weighs over 2000 pounds, has a giant crack down the middle and features prominently in the Nicholas Cage classic National Treasure .

And you can’t visit Philadelphia without running up the Rocky steps, er, also known as the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art – which is also worth visiting.

Another one of my favorite spots in Philadelphia is the Longwood Gardens, which are absolutely beautiful, especially in spring and summer.

However, or anyone looking for insta fame and glory, you’ll want to find your way to the famous red LOVE sculpture.

But, if you’re after something unique, but wonderful, explore the world’s largest collection of pizza memorabilia while also enjoying a slice at Pizza Brain.

Yup, it’s safe to say there’s a lot to do in Philadelphia. So, if your schedule and budget allow for it, stay anywhere from 2-4 days before continuing with your New York to Miami road trip itinerary.

Best places to stay in Philadelphia:

Philadelphia is a surprisingly expensive city to stay in, and many of the budget hotels are… not good.

So, if you want to stay in the city I highly recommend the Club Quarters Hotel on Rittenhouse Square or The Gables B&B , which are both mid-range options.

Otherwise – and I know this is blasphemous to recommend as a New Yorker – you can usually find good deals across the river in New Jersey.

Alternatively, The Best Western Plus in Pennsauken or the Lily Inn in Burlington are both pretty good with easy access to Philadelphia.

Best places to eat in Philadelphia:

In addition to the aforementioned Brain Pizza, you’ll also find some of the best pizza in Philly at Down North.

Obvs you can’t leave Philadelphia without trying the ritual Philly Cheesesteak! And there are probably hundreds of places to choose from.

To my fellow vegans, I HIGHLY recommend the cheesesteak from HipCityVeg. But for a meaty treat, I’ve heard Jim’s Steaks is amazing.

For even more outstanding vegan food, try out Monster Vegan or Charlie was a sinner.

And if you want delicious food made with love from the Mediterranean and Caucasus, try out Apricot Stone during your New York to Miami road trip.

3. Baltimore, MD

View of the Baltimore skyline at dusk during your New York to Florida road trip.

Journey time: 2 – 2.5 hours Distance: 101 miles

Despite being a large New England city, Baltimore always seems somewhat overlooked to me. And that’s a real shame since there are a lot of great things to do in Baltimore!

Trust me, I should know. I went to college in the area and spent a ton of time attending Ravens games and strolling through the Inner Harbor.

So, for starters, if you’re a fan of sea creatures, this will definitely be one of the highlights of your New York to Miami road trip!

Why, you may ask? Well, because they have the amazing National Aquarium! And if you really want a treat, stop by on Fridays after 5:00 pm when admission is free.

Now, once you step inside you’ll find over 750 species of marine creatures and more than 17,000 specimens on display. You’ll also find all your favorites including dolphins, jellyfish, crocodiles, turtles, clown fish, and more!

While you’re in the area, make sure to walk around and explore the Inner Harbor, it’s one of the most unique neighborhoods in Baltimore.

If you have time, take a cruise around the harbor , complete with a delicious buffet lunch, for some truly stunning views.

However, Baltimore is also full of fascinating museums. So, if you’re a fellow museum buff, Baltimore is going to make you swoon!

A few of my faves are: The Edgar Allan Poe Museum, The Baltimore Tattoo Museum, The Babe Ruth Birthplace & Museum, the Maryland Science Center, and the Jewish Museum of Maryland.

Museums aren’t your thing? Don’t worry, there are plenty of other fun Baltimore attractions too.

Spend some time wandering around the Rawlings Garden and Observatory or trek up to the World Observation Deck for phenomenal views of the city.

Make sure to check out the historic Phoenix Shot Tower too, which was the tallest structure in the USA – at 234.25 feet – when it was initially built in 1828.

And because there are so many more great sites in Baltimore, make sure to set aside at least 2 days to see the city.

Plus, if you love visiting important cultural sites, you’ll probably want to set aside even more time as this is one of the most cultural cities to visit during any a New York to Florida road trip.

Best places to stay in Baltimore:

Baltimore is one of the more affordable major cities in the region, so if you like it here, it’s worth extending your stay.

A great budget option is the Candlewood Suites , which is centrally located in the Inner Harbor, so you have easy access to everything the city offers.

Alternatively, if you want to treat yourself, book a stay at the Sagamore Pendry Baltimore , which is a fantastic 5-star hotel RIGHT on the Patapsco River that will offer you magnificent panoramas of the area.

Best places to eat in Baltimore:

If you’re in the market for delicious vegan food, try out The Land of Kush. I recommend their chickpea burgers and, well, literally everything else they serve.

However, before I gave up dairy, the highlight of any trip to Baltimore was always the delicious desserts. In fact, Waffie Waffle makes delicious, sugar-coma-inducing waffle stacks with every topping imaginable.

You also can’t go wrong with Namaste Baltimore, The PaperMoon Diner or Woodbury Kitchen! Nacho Mama also offers up great Mexican fare, complete with margaritas served in hub caps, while Miss Shirley’s serves up some of the all-time best southern comfort food I’ve ever had…PERIOD.

4. Washington, DC

The national mall filled with cherry blossoms at the washington monument in the background.

Journey time: 45 minutes (by train) – 1 hour 15 minutes (by car) Distance: 38 miles

Pro Tip: Stay an extra night (or two) in Baltimore and do Washington, DC as a day trip. The train takes about 40-45 minutes and even booking last minute is normally significantly cheaper than one night at any hotel in DC.

Like many of these major cities along this New York to Miami road trip, Washington, DC, has a plethora of amazing sites to visit and check out.

However, if you only have a day or two, you can still mostly cram in all the major MUST-SEE sites and leave DC feeling accomplished.

As a profound nerd, I always love visiting the National Archives, as well as the stunning Library of Congress building.

Of course, a few more top things to do in Washington, DC for fellow nerds, are the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of Natural History.

A few more important and worthwhile sites to add to your trip are Arlington National Cemetery and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (so good but truly heartbreaking).

If historical sites and museums aren’t your jam, then take a few hours to explore the DC catacombs.

Or, spend the day finding amazing street art across the city. Nearly every neighborhood has at least one amazing and unique mural! The Dupont Underground is also a must for art lovers.

Take advantage of any nice weather and head straight to the National Arboretum to wander through the gorgeous gardens or just explore the Mall and stand in awe of the Washington Monument.

Best places to stay in Washington, DC:

As I’ve suggested above, I think it’s better to stay an extra night or two in Baltimore and day trip to Washington, DC as it is an outrageously expensive city.

However, if you still prefer to stay in DC, my top recommendations are The Darcy or the Morrison Clark Hotel . Both are centrally located and offer top-notch service.

Best places to eat in Washington, DC:

Not surprisingly, Washington, DC has delicious cuisine from all over the world!

For Indian food, check out Indigo, if you want Vietnamese try Viet Pho. Craving pizza? Head to Pizzeria Paradiso! For something more low-key, Call Your Mother Deli has delicious bagels (obvs not quite up to NYC standard but still good).

Wanna go totally vegan? DC has some amazing vegan restaurants! My absolute faves are HipCityVeg (their curry tofu wrap is DIVINE), and NuVegan.

Alternatively, if you just want an affordable cafe to hang out in while you take a break from sightseeing, Compass Cafe is a fabulous option.

And if you’re visiting over the weekend, you should also check out the stalls at the DC Farmersʻ Markets too for some fresh eats during your New York to Miami road trip.

5. Roanoke, VA

Aerial view of Roanoake at dusk as you enjoy this New York to Miami road trip.

Journey time: 4 – 4.5 hours Distance: 240 miles

While doing my own New York to Florida road trip I visited Roanoke on a whim and was totally blown away by how much there is to do there!

After all, it’s located within the Blue Ridge Mountains and has just as many outdoor activities as it does cultural sites. So, regardless of your travel style, you’ll find something unique to do here.

And your first stop should be the Taubman Museum of Art. The building itself is a work of art and it only gets better once you step inside and explore all of the exhibits here.

Then, for hiking, explore the beautiful Carvins Cove Natural Reserve, which has over 60 miles of hiking trails set amidst the area’s stunning local flora and fauna.

But, if you’re doing a New York to Miami road trip with kids (or want to unwind) then the Pinball Museum is one of the best things to do in Roanoke. Yes, you read that right!

And did I mention it’s interactive? So, not only will you learn about the history of pinball machines – and see ones that date back to the 1930s! – you’ll also get to play on the machines too.

By the way, if you love this museum, the next city on this New York to Flordia road trip itinerary has one, as well!

Those with kids will also get great joy from visiting the Mill Mountain Zoo and seeing all the cool animals that call this place home.

Also, don’t forget to stop by the iconic Mill Mountain Star and get a few photos for the ‘gram!

And while you can certainly stay longer, Roanoke is great for a short visit and I recommend spending 1-2 full days in here to get the most out of the city.

Roanoke can also be a good resting place if you want to wait and hike more in the next destination.

Best places to stay in Roanoke:

Hands down my favorite place to stay in Roanoke is Shirley’s Bed and Breakfast .

However, for a great budget option, try the Best Western in North Roanoke .

Best places to eat in Roanoke:

Billy’s is a local favorite and for good reason! Sadly though, their veggie and vegan options are pretty limited!

In contrast, Cedars Lebanese restaurant serves some of the best Mediterranean food in New England and I could devour their fried mushrooms all day.

Alternatively, The Screaming Vegan is your best option for tasty vegan food. Their jackfruit sliders are a must!

6. Asheville, NC

Stunning landscape views from Asheville, North Carolina during your new york to Florida road trip.

Journey time: 3.5 – 4.5 hours Distance: 245 miles

Asheville is a cool and trendy destination with lots of amazing cafes, stunning street art, and delicious foodie hot spots.

It’s also an outdoor lover’s paradise as it’s surrounded by fantastic hikes, waterfalls, and beautiful parks.

So, make sure you plan your New York to Miami road trip so that you get the most out of the gorgeous countryside.

After all, you want good weather so you can enjoy the truly stunning views from Mount Pisgah and the Great Smoky Mountains!

Plus, Asheville has several state parks on its doorstep. I mean, you can’t miss Chimney Rock State Park while you’re here!

And when you’re done exploring the great outdoors, you’re gonna want to tour the Biltmore Estate, which is officially America’s largest home. So, don’t get lost – it’s massive!

Other top activities include touring the Thomas Wolfe Memorial and, of course, playing some rounds at the Pinball Museum.

Yeah, you’re sure to fall in love with Asheville. So, make sure you spend enough time here during your New York to Florida road trip. Ideally, plan for at least 3 days. But, trust me, you’ll probably want to stay longer.

Best places to stay in Asheville:

If you’re on a budget, your best options are the Clarion Inn Biltmore Village or The Beaucatcher . Although neither is in downtown Asheville, so you’ll have no trouble getting around.

But, if you’re after a truly luxury experience, then do yourself a favor and book a stay at The Inn on Biltmore Estate and take advantage of the views, the amenities, and the absurdly comfy beds.

Best places to eat in Asheville:

Asheville is a foodie city. So, literally, anywhere you go you’re sure to find something that will tantalize your taste buds!

But since you have limited time and HAVE to pick a few, here are my top recommendations: Tupelo Honey, Plant (some of the best vegan I’ve ever had), Mellow Mushroom, Miyako, and Modesto – just to name a few you must-try during your New York to Miami road trip.

7. Charlotte, NC

Aerial view of Charlotte North Carolina during your Miami to New York road trip.

Journey time: 2 – 2.5 hours Distance: 130 miles

Charlotte is another great place to stop during your New York to Miami road trip. Especially since you’ll need some refueling and relaxing before carrying on.

Now, the number one site is the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The city might not be the birthplace of NASCAR, but it’s one of the cities most known for it.

I’m not the biggest fan and I thought the Hall of Fame might be a bit cringe, but it was surprisingly fun.

The Carowinds amusement park is also well worth a visit. With over 60 rides and multiple stomach-dropping roller coasters, you’ll have the RIDE of your life here.

If you want to stay longer – or aren’t all that fussed about NASCAR – few of the other top things to do in Charlotte include the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens and the Mint Museum.

Discovery Place Science and Discovery Place Nature are also fun spots for kids. Yes, they may roll their eyes at an educational day out. However, they’ll love the interactive exhibits.

Best places to stay in Charlotte:

As I said, Charlotte is a great spot to spend the day on your road trip from New York to Miami.

Buf if you do want to stay and explore more, I highly recommend a day at the Morehead Inn , which is affordable and full of charm.

Best places to eat in Charlotte:

Even on a short stay, everyone has to eat, right?

Hands down, one of THE best restaurants in Charlotte is Oh My Soul. This vegan restaurant is run by a couple of lovely South Africans and is tasty AF.

They also have several unique South African dishes on the menu that will have you planning a trip there!

8. Charleston, SC

View of beautiful Charleston during your New York to Miami road trip.

Journey time: 3 – 4 hours Distance: 210 miles

I fell head over heels with Charleston the minute I arrived. Which was a miracle since I was not expecting to like this city so much.

But, it was deffo one of the biggest highlights of my New York to Florida road trip.

Now, it might sound a bit kitschy, but Charleston is one of those cities where you should definitely take a bunch of tours to get the most out of the city and learn about its incredible history.

So yes, you should absolutely start your trip off with a horse and carriage tour around the city . I pinkie promise it’s fun AND educational.

And then in the evening, book a Charleston ghost tour because this city is haunted AF! The guides really know their stuff and you’ll see Charleston in a whole new light.

But, don’t worry because Charleston isn’t all tours!

In fact, the Civil War buffs out there will have their pick of sites, including the famous Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park.

Because as you probably remember, the battle of Fort Sumter was where the US Civil War officially began. Therefore, this is an incredibly important part of the country’s history.

Rainbow Row and the Angel Oak Tree both show off the beauty of the city and make for amazing photo opportunities.

Lastly, I recommend a walk along the Joe Riley Waterfront Park at dusk for gorgeous sunset views over the river.

Also, during your New York to Miami road trip, try to stay in Charleston for around two days since it makes for an excellent weekend trip.

Best places to stay in Charleston:

Charleston is an expensive city to stay in, and if you’re on a tight budget, your best bet is staying out near the airport at the Wingate .

For a more centrally located stay, I personally loved my time at The Francis Marion Hotel . But The Charleston Place, a 5-star full-service luxury hotel, is also a popular choice among friends of mine who have also done this New York to Miami road trip.

Best places to eat in Charleston:

Fellow vegans will love Neon Tiger, which has some of the best vegan pizza I’ve ever tasted. Definitely try the buffalo cauliflower if they still have it! Gnome Cafe is also a great option.

Although the name might not suggest it, Coterie has some amazing Indian food. Fuji does great Japanese food too.

9. Savannah, GA

View of the fountain in Savannah during your New York to Florida road trip.

Journey time: 2 – 2.5 hours Distance: 108 miles

Savannah is a beautiful and charming city that seems to be made up largely of squares. In fact, Savannah is a well-planned, gridded city – making it an easy place to explore and a difficult city to get lost in.

So, back to the squares. There are 22 of them in total, which might seem a wee bit excessive. But, you know what? These squares are charming AF and you should walk around and visit them all.

Now, this might sound creepy, but another top site is the Bonaventure Cemetery. Plus, this place is beautiful and definitely worth a visit even if you just admire the statues and flowers.

You’ll undoubtedly also want to take a tour of the historic Mercer Williams House, which played an important role in the famous book (and film) The Garden of Good and Evil.

Just be aware that you can’t mention ANYTHING about the events of the book while you’re on the tour. So, if you want to know what happened, you’ll have to take the Adults-Only Beyond Good and Evil Tour.

And if you thought Charleston was going to be the most haunted place on your New York to Florida road trip, well in Savannah seems like nearly every house is full of ghosts.

A few other unique things to do in Savannah include a visit to Old Fort Jackson and Forsyth Park.

Savannah is definitely a city that commands your full attention, and you should try to spend at least 3 days here to explore everything there is to see – and to thoroughly creep yourself out!

Best places to stay in Savannah:

There are a lot of great mid-range and luxury hotels in Savannah. And some of my favorites are Planters Inn and The Alida , respectively.

Alternatively, Super 8 and La Quinta Inn are both quality budget options that lie a bit outside of the city.

Best places to eat in Savannah:

The Grey is a MUST! Because I apparently live under a rock, I was not aware this place had been featured on Chef’s Table, and just casually stopped by without a reservation.

Definitely don’t do that. BOOK! It’s worth the hassle, I promise. However, Fox and Fig was the best vegan food I had in Savannah. So, be sure to hit them up too during your New York to Miami road trip.

10. St Augustine, FL

View of historic architecture in St. Augustine.

Journey time: 3 – 4 hours (you have to pass through Jacksonville on this leg of your New York to Miami road trip, so try not to hit it during rush hour) Distance: 180 miles

I don’t think I’m alone in this, but when I think of Florida, I think of sunny beaches, amusement parks, and retirement homes.

I know, I know it’s just a silly stereotype, but it exists for a reason, right?

And there’s nothing wrong with that. I mean, who doesn’t love beaches, roller coasters, and friendly old people?

Anyway, my point is that St Augustine surprised me because it was full of interesting historic sites. In fact, it turns out that St. Augustine is the OLDEST city in the USA.

Literally, that blew my mind!

But it’s true since the city was founded in 1565 by Spanish explorer Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles of Spain and is known today for its unique colonial Spanish architecture.

Of course, it’s also popular for its beaches. And Crescent beach is a must, as well as the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum.

Also, you know that whole fountain of youth myth? Yeah, well apparently it’s located IN St. Augustine!

Yup, you can even visit the Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, which is built on the site where it supposedly existed. Now it’s 15 acres of citrus trees, wooden huts, and wildlife.

And that’s not all! There are tons of fascinating historical sites to visit in St. Augustine.

A few other top attractions include the Pirate and Treasure Museum, Twelve Mile Swamp Conservation Area, the Old Jail, Fort Matanzas National Monument, and the Colonial Quarter.

Although, if you’re interested in the history of the region, you need at least 3 days during your New York to Miami road trip in St. Augustine, though you could easily spend a week here since this place is THAT cool.

Alternatively, if you’re just interested in the beaches, it’s a good 1-day stopping point.

Best places to stay in St Augustine:

Villa 1565 is a stunning converted villa-cum-hotel near Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park.

For a romantic getaway though, I recommend The Collector Inn , a charming adults-only hotel near the historic district.

Best places to eat in St Augustine:

If you love seafood, you’re in luck because St. Augustine’s is full of well-loved seafood restaurants. Harry’s Seafood, Bar & Grille, and Catch 27 are just some of the ones most recommended to me.

But for the veggies, the food from Hakka Kitchen has some of the best food of any place I visited during my New York to Miami road trip.

I still dream about those crispy tofu pockets and their vegan chili. I mean, can you blame me – it won an award!

11. Orlando, FL

Disney World at Christmas in Orlando during your New York to Florida road trip.

Journey time: 2 – 2.5 hours Distance : 105 miles

Orlando is home to the happiest place on Earth: DISNEYWORLD!

It’s also where you’ll find several other amazing parks like Universal Studios and Epcot, with all kinds of epic rides and attractions based on some of your favorite movies and animated films.

And I’ll be honest, that’s all I really do whenever I visit Orlando: visit the amusement parks.

I mean, yes, I know there’s a beautiful botanical garden (a few, actually, right?) and some museums.

But let’s be honest, we all go to Orlando for the rides and the nostalgia!

So, get your passes and embrace your inner child because that’s what this part of your New York to Miami road trip is all about!

I cannot overstate just how much stuff there is to do at all of these parks. Families come from all over and spend two whole weeks at Disneyworld alone!

You may find yourself spending more time in one particular park than the others – understandable, I can super relate to that.

Depending on your love for the House of Mouse et al, you can easily spend a whole week here. If you want to get a feel for each of the big parks, a couple of days per park should give you plenty of memories to cherish.

Anywhere between 4 and, like, 14 days is a great amount of time to spend in Orlando Florida!

Best places to stay in Orlando:

You can’t stay in Orlando without staying at one of the parks for extra-easy access. Most people stay at the Disney parks, but I’m actually partial to Universal’s Endless Summer Resort .

Best places to eat in Orlando:

Orlando has all the food options a foodie could ask for. Seriously, they have food from all over the world in this city!

You could try a brand new experience at Kadence, the reservation-only Japanese restaurant serving sushi dishes that are out of this world.

Feeling a hankering for good ol’ American? Then head to The Osprey on New Broad St or The Ravenous Pig of W Fairbanks Ave to have your belly filled with hearty dishes and fresh seafood.

However, I thoroughly recommend visiting the Z Asian Vietnamese Kitchen and trying some fried tofu in their Vermicelli Noodle dish – perfect for vegetarians!

12. Miami, FL

Multi-colored lifeguard tower in Miami in best warm winter vacations USA.

Journey time: 2.5 – 4 hours Distance: 235 miles

Yay, you made it! Your New York to Miami road trip has led you all the way to your final destination: Miami! (Of course)!

Now it’s time to enjoy everything that this coastal metropolis has to offer.

Of course, no trip to Miami would be complete without a visit to the world-famous Miami Beach. This sun-drenched party hotspot is THE place to throw down a beach towel and soak up the rays!

Take a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the art deco buildings and some prime shopping boutiques. The nightlife here is super vibrant – everyone’s here to have a drink and a good time!

However, one of the most unique things to do in Miami is to take a jet ski tour . Get your adrenaline pumping as you learn about Miami while you zoom through the waves.

If you like getting properly into the water, the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary has an underwater experience like no other.

You’ll be snorkeling with beautiful tropical fish, and discovering coral reefs and underwater sculptures. It’s magical!

Just make sure to get your cultural-artistic fix and swing by Wynwood Walls in the Wynwood art district.

This formerly rundown district has been revitalized as the ultimate outdoor street art and graffiti gallery! In total, there’s over 80,000 square feet of painted walls here, done by artists from all over the world.

Of course, we can’t not mention the Everglades National Park. 1.5 million acres of well-preserved land and awesome nature? Yes, please! They even have a safari park inside the main park with airboat rides available.

How long do I think you should stay in Miami? As long as you want! This is the last stop on your New York to Miami road trip itinerary, and it’s yours for as long as you enjoy this gorgeous city!

Best places to stay in Miami:

For anyone wanting to finish their New York to Florida road trip with a bang, the Beacon Hotel South Beach will have you wishing you could stay forever.

This 4-star luxury beachfront hotel is just a 10-minute walk from Miami Beach Boardwalk and has its own picturesque terrace and garden, complete with a bar/lounge.

If you’re more budget-minded and want to make some new friends, the Hoosville Hostel is the palace for you. With its communal spaces and rooms and an outdoor pool, you can meet fellow road trippers and travelers alike.

Plus it’s just a 15-minute drive to the Everglades National Park.

Best places to eat in Miami:

Miami has an incredibly diverse range of foods available. I recommend heading into LIttle Havana district to get a flavor of what the city has to offer. For me, it’s all about the Cuban food in Miami and the Cubano in particuliar.

So, stop by Doce Provisions and they will have your taste buds tingling with happiness with their selection of fun twists on traditional Cuban cuisine.

Or, shake up your burger game with a frita from El Rey De Las Fritas. These mixtures of ground beef and chorizo come in soft buns filled with potato strings and you can add more from there!

For dessert? Look no further than the Azucar Ice Cream Company. Make sure to try the mamey ice cream for an authentic Miami experience!

Boarding was great. The flight landed early. It took the crew over an hour and a half to bring out drinks. I paid to upgrade my seat to Comfort+ only to be near a crying/screaming baby who was seldom quiet. Noise-cancelling earbuds didn’t even help. Waste of money to upgrade.

Boarding was a sh!t show. JFK BOARDING was awful. The agent called three sections at a time Clogging the area then yelling at people to not block the walk way. How are you going to call delta one , premium select and comfort plus at once and the yell at highest paying passengers. Need to do a lot better and the flight attendants in the galley need to understand that their voices travel. They were talking about others and everyone in the cabin heard them

The main person that was coordinating everything was a short white/light skin Spanish man and he was very rude. It honestly made me feel like it was everyone’s First day at work. His announcements were very not reasonable and they did not make sense. The stewardess on the flight that made the announcements she didn’t even know what she was talking about she sounded inebriated. There were no snacks or drinks on our flight there wasn’t even much turbulence. This flight was not enjoyable nor was it what a Delta flight should be and just this past week I flew with Delta 3 times.

Horrible. First delta flight was delayed. I ran to my connecting flight and arrived to the gate 13 mins before departure. I told the gate agent “I’m here”, she told me flight was closed while giving my already confirmed seat to an stand by passenger. I said again “madam, I’m here with my confirmed seat” and she said “no you’re not here@ and gave two stand by people a boarding pass and let them board. I asked “madam, why do you do that?”, and she repeated “you’re not here”. That was very rude. I’m disappointed of delta. It used to have a good customer service. Things have changed, but not for good.

full flihgt but crew and passengers all helped eachother we landed early! however we then had to wait 40 minutes on the tarmac to get into the gate there were people trying get connecting flights, assume its an airport issue but still frustrating

I like that it got us where we were going. Everything else needed work. It was 1/2 hour late and we took off an hour late. The plane had to be cleaned and the disabled loaded on board before we could take off which took forever and then we sat at the terminal FOREVER before we took off. The ride was so bumpy that they couldn’t serve drinks and snack but to about 1/2 the plane. Seriously we should have flown out of Fort Lauderdale. We probably would’ve gotten home several hours earlier.

The crew was horrible. Cleo was the most unwelcoming flight attendant I’ve ever had.

Do not get fooled by the term “Delta One” flat bed! The seats were super narrow. The ottoman for the feet was so narrow that when you recline the seat in flat bed position, you can only fit one foot in the 8” width space. There was only 1 flight attendant for First Class. The breakfast took 2 hours to get served. Instead of offering French Toast, the served bread pudding. The champagne with orange juice or Mimosa tasted terrible. Almost all the movies offered were ridiculously old. For a long flight from San Francisco to NY, it was frustrating! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this flight!!!

Really big guy next to me Attendants moved him to an open row

the entertainment for the flight from DAL-LGA was not available.

great flight. Pilot was communicative, flight attendants were excellent. Really nice experience except my tv didn’t work.

Overall, the flight was better than the flight I took to go to Florida, which had a bunch of problems. The crew is really nice and the plane was new so it had a small problem when we were on the runway, but the flight itself was great. They even made some time back up, which is always a good thing.

Everything was good except for deplaning in NY. Took way too long!!

Jet Blue keeps getting iit wrong. 4 hour mechanical delay followed by terrible boarding experience. This is my third horrific jet blue flight in 2024. I am going to try to avoid this loser in the sky

no wifi and the aircraft was very old with tiny 4” screens.

After we landed, we were held on the plane for 30 minutes. There was no one at the gate once we landed and we forced to sit on a plan that had already over an hour delayed.

Flawless trip. Pilot came out and introduced himself, welcomed everyone, made a light joke to put everyone at ease. Arrived quite early.

JetBlue's check-in was great, but there was an in-flight flight attendant who was very rude and unkind. I didn't realize that the bathrooms were already locked 30 mins prior to landing and needed to use the restroom. Instead of politely asking me to return, she rudely told me, 'No, bathrooms are locked! Go back to your seat!' The flight was more than an hour delay, which made me almost miss my connecting flight. I understand the reasoning, but the action they took to get a hold of maintenance was time consuming. It took them so long to get a hold of maintenance and for maintenance to get started. Most importantly, my 3 checked baggages are missing! I'm writing this review 3 days after my arrival to the Philippines, and my 3 checked baggages, where my wedding dress is, are all missing!

Safe takeoff and landing Better snacks and coffee. Headphones for the TV monitors.

I didn't like the 2 hour delay and then mechanical issue once we were on board.

We waited to takeoff for about 1 hour delay for a 20 min flight.

Packed in like sardines, very uncomfortable. Sitting the aisle my shoulder was rammed into numerous times by rushing flight attendants. Also flight was very cold.

Your app is impossible to use. I couldn't load it. Then i couldn't open it. When i finally got both those things done -with much help -then i couldn't open the app to install a credit card. The upshot was 4 flights without access to food or drink. When i first tried to download united app some company called starlier opened instead and i would up signing up for some 49 dollar a month music service which i still have not been able to cancel.

Overall it was good. The flight was bumpy at times, but the pilot made us aware every time. As a result, no snacks/drinks were made available. Seats were tight but that’s okay as I had a window seat.

the head jack on my seat didn't work and the power outlet didn't work for my seat

That flight was smooth, and staff we courteous. it was a full flight so very tight. The boarding through security was not properly controlled. it was rushed and the scanning process for our bags, etc. was pilling up at the other end with no time to empty our belonging my personal items almost toppled over on the floor if i hadn't caught it rapidly. Was it just that time, or always like this - cant say. other than that all else was fine.

Wheelchair assistance was not complete. The person left me at the departure gate without informing the groundstaff of my requirements. I had to walk to the departure counter to ask for help to reach the plane door. The crew informed me that in future they were not allowed to help passengers like me, senior citizen and Wheelchair passenger with placing their carry on bags in the overhead compartments!

Boarding was friendly and quick. While the plane model was older with no live tv, the entertainment was full of movies and tv shows. All food was available. Pilots were very communicative with status of the flight. Flight landed on time.

I liked that we arrived earlier, you could improve your snacks give away

We learned certain countries (a few) require a notarized letter from an ex to give permission for children to travel to those countries with the other spouse together with birth certificates. To find this out one hour before flying—not good. Nowhere is it documented by the airlines though they require it. Make sure about all documentation required.

Horrible people at the gate, they force me to check in my carry on, even thought no one behind me has to do it. I had to get out of the airport in NY to get my bag and go thru security again on my way to Honk Kong. The worst part is the employee threatened me with loosing the flights if don’t comply.

Horrible. Flight was delayed and very bumpy. I was super unhappy

The agents at the gate were rude. The stwards were pleasant. The seats were comfortable. The tray table had crumbs on it. A passenger talked constantlt and very loudly for the entire flight annoying many passengers. The stewards did not ask her to speak in a lower voice but my travel partner did.

Literally the worst experience ever and I had my service dog with me. Flight was supposed to leave at 1:51 PM but the plane arrived late. They boarded us around 3 PM and kept us on the plane for an hour saying that due to weather conditions in Miami, we could not takeoff yet. After waiting for an hour, they deplaned. And then they will not give us our bags back that we could just leave and schedule for another flight. Every hour they kept updating saying we have to wait another hour without any explanation as to what was going on. Eventually, I went to customer service to change my ticket, but by the time I made it to the front of the line, they started boarding my flight again. And then when we got onto the flight, they said there were two flight attendants That were past their shift. They kept us on the plane for about another 40 minutes until they told us they had no other flight attendance and had to deplane again. Then I gave us hotel vouchers and told us we would be on a flight at 6 AM the next day. At this point it is about 9 PM. I get to the hotel with my dog, who hasn’t been able to go potty for about eight hours. When I arrived at the hotel, I got a text alert saying my flight has been canceled at 6 AM and they moved past to 5 AM, however the hotel shuttle doesn’t leave early enough to make it to the airport for 5 AM flight. So me and some other passengers got a cab after about three hours of sleep to get back to the airport. This was the worst experience ever.

One of the worst flights I have ever taken Delayed over an hour without communication from the crew; very scary Entertainment not working Crew NASTY cabin cold

May never fly American again Delay in take off WITHOUT EXPLANATION Cabin freezing Crew NASTY entertainment did not work entire flight

Plane felt so crowded and tightly packed. The chair itself was not comfortable.

Flight was delayed due to crew not being there, besides that it was a normal flight.

We were re routed due to a flight cancellation. We did not fly out of Miami. We originally booked first class and were moved to coach without being compensated.

2.5h delay due to unruly passenger in first class. Had to be removed from the flight. No food unless pre ordered. Didn't know we would need it because of delay.

Very bad, delayed flight. I was offered 2 vouchers for inconvenience, but those vouchers aren’t usable. Spirit airlines is betraying people.

They didn’t let me get my boarding pass through the app because I have a lap infant. The ticket said to see a gate agent but there was no gate agent available. I was supposed to go to the kiosk. Ended up missing my flight and they said that I never checked in to my flight so there was nothing that could be done. I will never fly spirit again. Not even worth the hassle and poor customer service.

I like the price. I did not like the seats: very little space and not reclining.

I like strict carry on policy. Quick to board, quick to leave. Less time at gate and get there quicker

It’s been awhile since we have flown and impressed by the changes we saw! Customer service was great. On board and before

comfortable flight. not fond of the idea to pay for every little detail. baggage checkin or carry ons, basic snack, or some sort of basic entertainment/wifi. would be nice to offer these as perks and stop with the penny pinching.

The seats were larger & more roomy than the old planes. the crew was excellent. . overall a very good flight.

No water for handwashing and they charged $5 for water. Spirit up-charges for every little thing and the planes themselves are old and nauseating.

Wifi went from normal to very slow. Some sites wouldn't load

Flying with Spirit is simple- it’s a minimalist airline that gets you from Point A to Point B. I have flown Spirit many times & have never had a problem with it, just don’t expect luxury or convenience. And know that, because the tickets are so affordable, the real charge comes in the bags, food, & extra purchases. The planes are simple, modern, and clean. They function in a way that moves large amounts of people in a more efficient manner, so the seats aren’t the most comfortable but I always bring a pillow and have no problem. I will continue to fly Spirit & would recommend to others

Hobe Sound, Martin County

very useful, thank you!

Amelia Island is near Jacksonville, on the north end of the Florida Atlantic Coast, nowhere near Miami. Otherwise, sounds like a nice road trip.

Ah yes, ordered it wrong. Thanks for pointing it out!

Lots of great spots! Amelia Island is further north near the Florida/Georgia border, though.

Thanks for alerting me to that. Not sure how the order got jumbled but it’s sorted now 🙂

Knicks' Game 1 ticket prices, NBA playoffs schedule and who they might play in first round

new york miami tour

The New York Knicks are back in the playoffs for the third time in four years after posting their first 50-win season since the 2012-13 season.

They clinched the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference on Sunday, the final day of the regular season, with a 120-119 thrilling overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls , and the Milwaukee Bucks, without two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, falling to the Orlando Magic, 113-88.

The Knicks will now host the winner of the NBA Play-in Tournament game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Center.

While the Knicks await to see who their opponent will be in the first round, it's not too early to buy tickets for the series opener that's already been announced.

Here's what you need to know about when Game 1 will take place and where to get tickets for the Knicks' first playoff game:

More: Knicks are No. 2 seed. Who will they play in first round of NBA playoffs: 76ers or Heat?

When do the Knicks play again?

Despite not yet knowing who their opponent will be between the 76ers or Heat, it's been confirmed by the NBA that the Knicks will open their 2024 postseason run on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

Owning the second-best record in the Eastern Conference this season means the Knicks will have home-court advantage through at least the first two rounds, with Games 1, 2 and 5 and 7 (if necessary), taking place in the Big Apple.

Knicks Game 1 tickets: What are the prices?

Unsurprisingly, Knicks fans looking to attend the opening game of the first-round series at MSG will have to spend a pretty penny and act fast with tickets going at a rapid rate to see Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo & Co. in action.

Here are the cheapest prices for a pair of tickets for Game 1 on Saturday:

SeatGeek: $778.12 (including taxes and fees) in Section 418, Row 5.

StubHub: $787 (including taxes and fees) in Section 417, Row 5.

Trump does a 'double up' on Biden campaign's $26 million New York fundraiser with Palm Beach billionaire's dinner

  • Donald Trump's campaign said it raised over $50 million at his Palm Beach fundraiser.
  • This comes after President Joe Biden's recent New York fundraiser, which raised $26 million.
  • Money raised at the gala could help support Trump as his legal bills pile up.

Insider Today

Donald Trump is dining with billionaires Saturday evening, hoping they fund his campaign — and his legal bills.

Trump's campaign announced Saturday that the Palm Beach fundraiser and gala brought in $50 million in donations, the Associated Press reported.

This amount is nearly double what President Joe Biden raised during a glitzy Democratic fundraiser in New York on March 28. The Biden fundraiser broke the record for single-event fundraising, the AP reported, and Trump pointed it out himself on Truth Social Saturday.

Related stories

"Biggest night in Fund Raising of ALL TIME!!! Will double up the Biden number of last week at Radio City. People are desperate for change. They want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote on Truth Social ahead of the event, billed as Trump's "Inaugural Leadership Dinner."

Biden's campaign announced Saturday that it had raised $90 million in March and now has $192 million in cash. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is eager to catch up, with $65.6 million raised in March and $93.1 million on hand.

One source close to the Trump campaign who spoke to the Washington Post on the condition of anonymity said Trump has been "focused" on securing donations. Guests at the gala paid between $250,000 and $824,600 per person, CNN reported.

One person involved with Biden's fundraising who spoke to Axios said that Trump's "getting everyone to max out in April" strategy was unsustainable.

"It's a recipe for being broke in the months that will matter," the person told Axios .

Trump arrived at the gala on Saturday, posing with his wife, Melania , who has been largely missing from his campaign in the past year but is now expected to take on a more active role.

The Palm Beach fundraiser , hosted at the mansion of hedge fund billionaire John Paulson , could support the former president's campaign and mounting legal bills, which include millions in payments to firms defending him in four criminal cases .

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be going to the Save America leadership political action committee , one of the two PACs that have provided funds for Trump's legal matters, CNN reported.

Representatives for the Trump and Biden campaigns did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.

Speaking at Miami synagogue, Argentina’s Javier Milei reveals he has Jewish heritage

new york miami tour

( JTA ) — Javier Milei’s fondness for Judaism has been a defining element of his public persona. Now, Argentina’s Catholic president says he has Jewish heritage of his own.

Milei made the revelation while speaking Wednesday night at the Shul of Bal Harbor, a large Chabad synagogue in the Miami area that was honoring the right-wing politician as an “International Ambassador of Light” in part because of his support for Israel, which makes him stand out among Latin American leaders and is a departure from his predecessor’s stance.

“My grandfather was truly a great influence. … I used to learn values from him and learned a lot,” Milei said, speaking in Spanish with a simultaneous translation. “The most interesting thing is that, shortly before he passed away he discovered that he was Jewish. He didn’t know but someone told him, ‘Your mother was Jewish, so you are Jewish.'”

He continued, “So all the values that I received from him came from Judaism.”

The revelation was the latest Jewish development for Milei, extending a record that has included visiting the grave of the last Chabad-Lubavitch rabbi in New York ; traveling to Israel and praying at the Western Wall ; and appointing his own rabbi to be Argentina’s ambassador to Israel . Milei has said that he wants to convert to Judaism but sees the duties of the presidency as incompatible with Jewish observance.

The Shul of Bal Harbour’s sold-out annual dinner honored Milei alongside his sister and advisor Karina Milei for “their unwavering dedication to spreading freedom, hope and positivity in the face of darkness,” according to the invitation distributed by the synagogue. It added, “Their tireless efforts for Israel and the global community have been a shining beacon, inspiring a brighter, more compassionate world.”

Louis Har, an Argentine Israeli who was freed from captivity in Gaza in December, presented Milei with a yellow ribbon in support of the remaining hostages, according to pictures shared on social media from the event. And Milei posted a picture of the award he was given, a colorful plaque in the shape of the Torah and inscribed with a verse from the book of Isaiah in Hebrew and Spanish, on Instagram Thursday . The verse includes a variation on the phrase “light unto the nations” — a traditional Jewish imperative to act as a moral exemplar.

Rabbi Tzvi Grunblatt, who has headed Chabad in Argentina since 1978, traveled with Milei and his entourage on a commercial flight to Miami, in keeping with the president’s austerity spending.

“I’m proud as an Argentinean about this recognition to our president and the secretary general of the presidency, for his faith, his spiritual values, for his belief in the spiritual mission of life,” Grunblatt told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “There are a lot of people with that attitude but he not only is a man of faith but also speaks publicly about this.”

The visit came at the start of a U.S. trip that is also set to include a meeting with Elon Musk in Texas and with Ilan Goldfajn, the Brazilian Jewish head of the Inter American Development Bank . According to a social media post by one of Milei’s advisors, the right-wing leader also sat down with Ben Shapiro, the Jewish right-wing pundit with a huge online following, in Florida on Wednesday.
