Kali Uchis Announces Tour and New Album Red Moon in Venus

By Allison Hussey

Kali Uchis

Kali Uchis has a new album due soon, her first record since 2020’s Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞ . Her next LP is titled Red Moon in Venus and it’s out March 3 via Geffen. She’ll tour North America in support of Red Moon in Venus later this year, with Raye opening most dates. Check out the project’s cover and the tour schedule below.

Since Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞ , the singer has collaborated on several tracks with other artists, including Ozuna , Omar Apollo , and Amaarae . Last year, she put her own spin on the bossa nova standard “ Desafinado ” for the Minions: The Rise of Gru soundtrack , and shared a new single titled “ No Hay Ley .” “I Wish You Roses,” a new song shared earlier this month, will appear on Red Moon in Venus . She explained the album’s title in a statement:

Love is the message. Red Moon in Venus is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus. The moon and Venus work together to make key aspects of love and domestic life work well. This body of work represents all levels of love—releasing people with love, drawing love into your life and self-love. It’s believed by many astrologers that the blood moon can send your emotions into a spin, and that’s what I felt represented this body of work best.

Kali Uchis Extends ‘Red Moon in Venus’ Tour With Six New Fall Dates

By Tomás Mier

Kali Uchis ‘ Red Moon in Venus era is not over yet. On Tuesday, the Colombian-American singer announced six new dates for her 2023 tour later this fall.

Uchis will start her new run of dates in San Diego before making her way to Oakland, Las Vegas, Sacramento, and Los Angeles’ storied Hollywood Bowl. Dominican musician Tokischa will join her on the road for all six dates, while Buscabulla will also perform on her Los Angeles date.

The shows include dates on the west coast that were not allowed on her previous tour — which ran from late April through the end of May — due to Coachella’s radius clause, which prevents acts from performing in Southern California for up to three months before and after the music festival.

“Between swaying, singing, and interacting with her dancers (at one point, they became a throne for her to sit on while addressing fans), Uchis gave a polished and elegant performance,” read a Rolling Stone review of her Red Moon in Venus tour stop in New York City in May.

Kali Uchis Shines on Her ‘Red Moon in Venus’ Tour

May 1, 2023 | ktru

By Jacob Pellegrino

Kali Uchis has already shown the world her talent as a performer throughout her career and during her Coachella performance in April. For her show at 713 Music Hall, Uchis performed her music to a sold out concert hall with an engaged crowd hanging on to every word.

The show began with opener RAYE, a British singer-songwriter whose music crosses a range of genres, including dance, R&B, and pop. RAYE recently gained more creative freedom of her music after leaving a restrictive label and performed tracks that addressed a wide range of topics. One of the most striking was “Ice Cream Man,” a powerful song that addresses her experience with sexual assault and its after-effects. RAYE talked a lot to the audience about her life and the meaning of the songs she played.

Her Houston stop was the second show on Kali Uchis’ “Red Moon in Venus” tour. Songs from her most recent album, for which the tour is named, such as “Moonlight” and “I Wish You Roses” were intoxicating live with the power of their melodies only increased by the live atmosphere. As it was so early in the tour Uchis repeatedly told the audience that she was still working on the setlist, thanking the packed house for being there and enjoying her music.

Throughout the show, Uchis’ dreamy music combined with a considered stage design and choreography to create a memorable experience that saw both her Spanish and English language music shine.

On March 3, Kali Uchis will officially unveil her highly anticipated Red Moon In Venus album. So far, fans have been able to indulge in two singles, “NO HAY LEY” and “I Wish You Roses.” Today (Jan. 23), the Virgina-born songstress announced she will be heading out on a tour this spring produced by Live Nation. The journey kicks off on April 24 in Austin and will make its way through major cities like New York, Las Vegas, Toronto, and more before coming to a close in Phoenix on May 30.

“Love is the message,” Uchis said about the forthcoming album via press release. “ Red Moon In Venus is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak , faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus. The moon and Venus work together to make key aspects of love and domestic life work well. This body of work represents all levels of love — releasing people with love, drawing love into your life and self-love.”

The “Melting” singer’s last body of work was 2020’s Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) LP, a Spanish album that contained 13 songs and additional features from PARTYNEXTDOOR, Rico Nasty, Jowell & Randy, and Jhay Cortez. Months afterward, she released the deluxe upgrade, complete with a new assist from SZA on the fan-favorite “fue mejor” track.

Kali Uchis - Red Moon In Venus Tour

Live Nation presents the Kali Uchis - Red Moon in Venus Tour at the Portland'5 Keller Auditorium on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 8pm.

Grammy-winning artist Kali Uchis’ new English language album, Red Moon In Venus , is slated for release on March 3 via Interscope.

“Love is the message,” Uchis explains about the new album. “ Red Moon In Venus is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus. The moon and Venus work together to make key aspects of love and domestic life work well. This body of work represents all levels of love—releasing people with love, drawing love into your life and self-love. It’s believed by many astrologers that the blood moon can send your emotions into a spin, and that’s what I felt represented this body of work best.”

Simultaneously, Uchis confirms she will embark on a headline North American tour this spring produced by Live Nation, with stops at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom, Washington D.C.’s Anthem and more. Uchis is among the top-billed performers at this year’s Coachella, Lollapalooza in Chile, Argentina and Brazil and Estéreo Picnic in Colombia.

Uchis went into the recording process intending to create an album that felt timeless, one that can be enjoyed any time and any place and will remain meaningful throughout the years to her and her fans. Red Moon In Venus floats between soul, R&B, pop, música urbana and more experimental textures. The result is an album that, as Uchis has come to perfect throughout her catalog, transcends genre or classification, a pure reflection of her soul.

Last year, Uchis won three Billboard Latin Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and an American Music Award. In 2021, Uchis took home her first Billboard Latin Music Award for her critically acclaimed Spanish language album, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞, released in 2020, which spawned the runaway, chart-topping hit, “telepatía,” which has been streamed more than 2 billion times to date and is the Billboard Hot 100’s longest running Spanish song by a solo act this decade with a 23-week streak. That same year, she took home her first Grammy Award, Premios Nuestra Tierra and Univision Premios Juventud, covered Office Magazine , performed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and toured arenas across North America with Tyler, the Creator.

Raised between Virginia and Colombia, Kali Uchis rose to prominence with Por Vida in 2015, following it up with her 2018 debut album, Isolation , which received widespread critical acclaim and was featured on Best Of lists in Rolling Stone , Pitchfork , NPR, Vulture and many more. Uchis has collaborated and shared stages with SZA, Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, Diplo, Major Lazer, Snoop Dogg, Kaytranada, Leon Bridges and more and has toured the world over, with much-lauded sets headlining Tropicalia, Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and many others.

Childish Gambino , Asap Rocky, Charlie Wilson and Kali Uchis appeared as surprise performers during the headline set of Tyler , The Creator at Coachella.

Tyler, The Creator, real name Tyler Okonma, headlined Saturday night at the Californian festival after becoming a mainstay since debuting in 2011 with his hip-hop group Odd Future, as well as playing solo sets in 2015 and 2018.

The US rapper first brought out US star Childish Gambino, real name Donald Glover, to the stage to perform Running Out Of Time.

The 33-year-old then performed his 2017 hit Who Dat Boy with Asap Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers – who shares two sons with pop megastar Rihanna.

Tyler, The Creator also performed a medley of Odd Future tracks including She and Yonkers to rapturous applause.

The show later saw 13-time Grammy nominee Wilson, lead singer of the Gap Band for a decade, appear on stage during a performance of Earfquake – a song Tyler, The Creator released in 2019.

Lastly, Uchis appeared briefly on stage to perform their hit song See You Again.

Colombian-American R&B singer Uchis recently gave birth to a child with American rapper Don Toliver.

The band played hits including Girls & Boys, Song 2, and Beetlebum, concluding their set with 1999 track Tender.

Jungle performed hits including Busy Earnin’, Heavy, California, and Dominoes – while it was reported US pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce were among the stars enjoying the set.

Earlier in the day, British star Raye spoke about her next music project after her award-winning debut album My 21st Century Blues.

The London-born star, who was wearing “office chic” for her afternoon performance at Coachella in Indio, California, said “art takes time” when discussing new music – before performing a string of hits including Worth It and Escapism.

“I just want you to know, this next piece of music that I’m going to put out … I’m so proud of it and I just need you to know,” the 26-year-old told the crowd.

“I can’t wait for you to hear it, it’s not what you expected.”

Last month, Raye overtook Blur, Harry Styles and Adele by picking up the most Brit awards in one year during the 2024 ceremony.

Her total haul on the night featured album of the year for My 21st Century Blues, artist of the year, best new artist, best R&B act and song of the year for Escapism featuring 070 Shake.

US rock band Vampire Weekend, who were confirmed to perform just days before the festival, brought out reality star Paris Hilton to play an American game titled Cornhole – which involves throwing a bean bag into an angled board.

Hilton, who was wearing a black cowboy hat with a matching ensemble, said: “I haven’t played this game since The Simple Life,” in reference to the reality series she starred in alongside Nicole Richie, which premiered in 2003.

It comes after the first day of the festival saw two-time Oscar winner Billie Eilish unexpectedly appear during Lana Del Rey’s Friday headline slot to sing her 2016 track Ocean Eyes, before duetting on Del Rey’s 2012 hit song Video Games.

Del Rey told the audience she was “grateful” for Eilish, describing her as “the voice of our generation”, while Eilish praised Del Rey for being “the reason for half of you b******’ existence … including mine”.

The headline show also saw Del Rey bring on Grammy-winner Jon Batiste to play the piano on her hit Candy Necklace, and Swift’s long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff to play the piano on Hope Is A Dangerous Thing For A Woman Like Me To Have – But I Have It.

The first day of the Californian festival also saw Shakira announce an upcoming world tour during a surprise appearance during the set of Argentinian DJ Bizarrap to perform their new track La Fuerte and BZRP Music Sessions, Vol 53.

All the Coachella 2024 Surprise Guest Performances, from Olivia Rodrigo to Billie Eilish

Here's an ongoing list of artists who made surprise appearances on stage during Coachella weekend one, including Billie Eilish and Shakira

Would it really be Coachella without the surprise guests?

The 2024 music and artists festival kicked off its annual two-weekend run in Indio, California, on Friday — and, as expected, this year's lineup wowed the crowed with electric performances and unexpected appearances on stage.

Headliner Lana Del Rey kicked off Coachella weekend with a dreamy hit-filled set that featured songs like "Summertime Sadness" and "Doin' Time." This marked Del Rey's return to the Coachella stage for the first time in a decade — "exactly 10 years ago to the day," she told the crowd.

Del Rey surprised festivalgoers in more ways than one, between making her way to the Main Stage on motorcycle through the crowd of thousands before welcoming major star power like Billie Eilish to join her in dueting "Video Games" and Ocean Eyes."

Argentine producer Bizarrap brought the energy during his hour-long DJ set at the Sahara tent, including a show-stopping surprise that brought the already-amped up crowed to a rupture with an appearance from his collaborator — and global superstar — Shakira.

The music-filled weekend continues on Saturday with another stacked lineup, including headliners Tyler, the Creator on Saturday night and Doja Cat on Sunday. Plus, a  promised reunion  will occur with  Gwen Stefani  and her band  No Doubt  as they take the stage for the first time since 2015.

Read on for all the artists who made surprise guest appearances during Coachella weekend one so far.

Lana Del Rey kicked off Coachella weekend one with a memorable set that featured three guest appearances by fellow collaborators and hit-making friends during her headlining set on Friday night.

Jon Batiste was the first artist to join Del Rey on the Main Stage to sing an extended version of “Candy Necklace.” The multi-instrumentalist dazzled on the piano, while Del Rey sat atop it and sang.

Del Rey then welcomed Billie Eilish to the stage after Batiste. She surprised the crowed with an unpredicted performance of her 2016 hit "Ocean Eyes" before singing Del Rey's "Video Games" right after.

Towards the end of Del Rey's set, Jack Antonoff played piano on stage while she appeared as a hologram to perform “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me — but I Have It.”

(Antonoff and his band Bleachers are on the Coachella lineup and perform Saturday night.)

Bizarrap took over the Sahara tent with a high-energy, rave-like set — while sporting his signature hat and sunglasses — on Friday night. Amid his live DJ set, the Argentine producer surprised the already-amped crowd by welcoming Shakira to the stage.

The global superstar joined him about halfway through his set to perform “La Fuerte," a surprise that was topped by an announcement made right after the performance.

Shakira then revealed she's setting out on a world tour. "Finally we’re going on tour — starting here, in November! Can't wait!” she announced on stage.

Peso Pluma and Becky G

Peso Pluma was joined by Becky G on the Main Stage on Friday night, one year after the pop star brought the Mexican singer out for a surprise performance during her Coachella set in 2023. They performed their song "Chanel."

Junior H also joined Peso Pluma on stage for “El Azul,” followed by Santa Fe Klan for “No Son Klle” and Arcángel for “Peso Completo."

No Doubt and Olivia Rodrigo

Gwen Stefani and No Doubt's slot on the lineup was enough to shock music lovers when Coachella first announced they'd be reuniting for the first time in nine years. Fast forward to their Saturday night set, they continued to surprise fans by welcoming Olivia Rodrigo to the stage for a song.

The "Driver's License" hitmaker, who recently wrapped the first leg of her anticipated "Guts Tour," joined Stefani and the band for a back-and-forth rendition of "Bathwater."

Rodrigo showcased her fangirl for the iconic rock-punk group by wearing an "I heart ND" tee.

Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky

In classic Tyler the Creator fashion, he kept fans intrigued from start to finish of his headlining set on Saturday night. Between making an entrance via zip-line dressed as a park ranger to casually eating a sandwich on stage, the "EARFQUAKE" rapper put on a show .

Dance moves featuring fancy footwork and hysterical-banter aside, Tyler surprised guests further with guest appearances. Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover), A$AP Rocky , Charlie Wilson and the highly-anticipated Kali Uchis each joined him on stage.

Gambino joined Tyler for “Running Out of Time." Rocky came out for "Potato Salad" and “Who Dat Boy.” Charlie Wilson joined him for "Earfquake” and Uchis for “See You Again."

Also, Rihanna shocked fans as she made her way through the crowd with Rocky to watch the rest of Tyler's set.

Vampire Weekend and Paris Hilton

Vampire Weekend was a last-minute add to the Coachella lineup this year, an addition that was announced when the set times were revealed the day before the festival began.

What was even more of a surprise was the guest they brought out as they rocked through their collection of hits — including "This Life," "Diane Young" and "A-Punk" — was a cameo from Paris Hilton , who popped up on stage for a game of corn hole while frontman Ezra Koenig and the band jammed through a medley of fan-favorite songs.

Sublime and Jakob Nowell

Late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell's son Jakob made his official debut as the band's new singer at  Coachella  on Saturday. He was joined by original members Bud Gough and Eric Wilson, whom Bradley tapped to be his son's co-godfathers.

“This is my family,” Jakob told PEOPLE on the eve of his anticipated set. “I consider the bandmates in Sublime my uncles.”

The family energy was felt when the group took the stage for their set that brought the California-cool, laid-back vibes to the festival as they jammed through hits — old and new — like "Badfish" and "What I Got" as the sun set behind them.

After performing "Doin Time" for the first time since 1996, Jakob and Sublime closed their Coachella set with '90s classic "Santeria" while visuals of surf scenes and sunsets filled the screens behind them.

No Doubt

“I didn’t think this was really going to happen, did you?” shouted Gwen Stefani halfway through “Hella Good,” the opening song from No Doubt during their reunion set at Coachella 2024.

It would have been an easy out for No Doubt to come across as one of the de facto nostalgia acts of the weekend. And in some ways, on the lineup, they were, gracing the same main stage that Sabrina Carpenter and Lil Uzi Vert had touched the day prior. But it’s a testament to the chemistry they’ve had since their formation and subsequent mainstream ascent that they can still harness that same energy with conviction, especially for a band whose members are all in their mid-50s.

The group, which formed in Anaheim, California in 1986, embraced its ska aesthetic, right down to the dance moves, horns and fashion choices. Plaid was splashed everywhere across the stage, from Stefani’s black-and-red boots to Young’s kilt. They paraded through hits, including “Ex-Girlfriend,” “It’s My Life,” “Hey Baby” and “Don’t Speak,” peppering in a few deeper cuts like “Different People” and “Happy Now?” (It was curious, though, that they didn’t play a single song from “Push and Shove”).

Stefani herself seemed surprised that so many attendees decided to watch their set. After all, for the Gen-Zers on the festival grounds, No Doubt is probably the band that their parents grew up on. But No Doubt came across as relevant and fresh. Even when Olivia Rodrigo came out to duet with the band halfway through the set on “Bathwater,” it didn’t come across as a bid to win over the audience; that part had already been accomplished.

That’s likely because No Doubt was just having fun and they didn’t make it seem like work. (Particularly when Stefani got on the ground and did 10 push-ups before “Just a Girl.”) “I was putting my makeup on and I was just thinking, is this actually happening right now?” she said before launching into the feminist anthem, which recently had a resurgence on TikTok. “Because we’re absolutely in the future right now with you guys. and I want to do this next song with the band here, with No Doubt. We wrote this song back at the Beacon Street house in Anaheim, California, and I feel like… You tell me, but I feel like this song could possibly be more relevant now than it’s ever been. You tell me.”

she did the boys vs girls "i'm just a girl" scream-off AND scaffolded?!! ICONIC AS FUCK #NoDoubt #GwenStefani #Coachella pic.twitter.com/Gc8rN5WUae — asca 🥀 (@bxgx21) April 14, 2024

No Doubt’s relevance has been dormant for some time, but it was hard not to feel like this was a triumphant return to form. It wouldn’t be surprising if their Coachella performance was a testing ground for a massive tour to come. If the roars from the crowd and the participation during the call-and-responses were any indication, then they may just have another chapter to write in their future.

No Doubt’s Coachella Setlist:

“Hella Good” “Sunday Morning” “Ex-Girlfriend” “It’s My Life” “Different People” “Hey Baby” “Total Hate ’95” “Bathwater” with Olivia Rodrigo “Simple Kind of Life” “Underneath It All” “Happy Now?” “New” “Just a Girl” “Don’t Speak” “Spiderwebs”
