IndiGo's new flight cancellation, change charges: 5 things to know

NEW DELHI : No-frills carrier IndiGo has revised its flight cancellation and change charges for both domestic and international flights. The revised rules, which came into force from Thursday, applies if a passenger changes the flight or cancels his tickets within 3 days of the journey, IndiGo said in a statement.

5 things to know about IndiGo's new flight cancellation and change charges:

1) IndiGo's flight cancellation charges will, however, remain the same in case a passenger is making the change four or more days in advance of the travel dates.

2) For domestic flights, IndiGo customers can make any changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking, if booked at least 7 days before the travel dates.

3) As per the passenger charter released by the civil aviation ministry in February 2019, IndiGo passengers can make any changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking on domestic flights , provided they have booked their tickets at least 7 days in advance of the scheduled departure.

4) For domestic flights, IndiGo will charge ₹ 3,500 if the request is made between 0-3 days of travel while for 4 days and above, the charges are ₹ 3,000. The change fee is ₹ 3,000 for 0-3 days and ₹ 2,500 for 4 days and above. For international flights, the rates vary in between ₹ 2,500 and ₹ 6,500.

5) IndiGo's chief commercial officer William Boulter, said this will help the airline bring down the last-minute changes to a minimum, enabling better capacity utilization on-board. "Improved processes will help us to continue providing IndiGo’s on-time, courteous and hassle-free service at affordable fares," he said.

IndiGo hikes fees for cancellation, flight changes: Here’s what you will have to pay

Indigo airlines has increased its cancellation and particulars changes fees by rs 500 if done three days before the flight's departure..

Budget carrier IndiGo has announced a revision in flight cancellation and change fee for both domestic and international flights ‘in order to streamline the entire process’ and ‘to improve the travel experience’ of its passengers. The revision in charges came into effect on Thursday midnight.

The airline has increased its cancellation and particulars changes fees by Rs 500 if done three days before the flight’s departure. “The revision only applies if the change or cancellation is made within 0-3 days of the travel dates. The charges remain the same in case a passenger is making the change four or more days in advance of the travel dates,” an official statement read.

In case of a flight cancellation or change within three days of departure, the revised fees will now be Rs 3,500 and Rs 3,000, respectively.

If the cancellation or detail change is done on a domestic ticket at any time apart from the aforementioned three-day period, the fees would remain at Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,500 respectively, the airline said.

Prior to the announcement, IndiGo charged a flat rate of Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,500 for cancellation and detail changes on domestic tickets.

In line with the passenger charter released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in February 2019, customers can make any changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking on domestic flights, if they have booked their tickets at least seven days in advance of the scheduled departure, the statement read.

For international flights flying within the Indian sub-continent, the fees for cancellation and changes will now be Rs 3,500 and Rs 3,000, respectively, if it is done within the three-day period before departure.

For cancellation and changes done on any other time period apart from the aforesaid three-day period, the passenger will require to shell out Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,500, respectively.

A fee of Rs 5,000 would now be charged if a ticket is cancelled within the three-day period before departure on a flight connecting India with the region of “South East, Middle East and rest of Asia”, the airline stated.

For flights in this region, the cancellation fee would remain at Rs 4,500 if it is done at any time apart from the aforesaid three-day period.

On IndiGo’s Delhi -Istanbul flight, the airline said the cancellation and detail change fees would be Rs 6,500 and Rs 5,000, respectively, if done in the mentioned three-day period, the airline said.

For any other time apart from the three-day period, the cancellation and change fees would remain at Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,500 for Delhi-Istanbul flight, it added.

IndiGo has a codeshare agreement with Turkish airlines which allows the former’s passengers to book tickets with the latter on any route connecting Istanbul to 12 destinations in Europe using the former’s website only.

For such codeshare flights in the European sector, the airline said the fees for cancellation and change would be Rs 6,500 and Rs 5,000, respectively if it is done within three-day period before the flight’s departure.

For any other time apart from the three-day period, the cancellation and change fees on such codeshare flights would remain at Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,500 respectively.

“We have revised our flight cancellation and change fee effective midnight today. This will help us bring down the last-minute changes to a minimum, enabling better capacity utilization onboard,” William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer of the airline, said.

Boulter added that improved processes will help IndiGo in providing its on-time, courteous and hassle-free service at affordable fares.

• Flight change is only permissible to travelers if the seats are vacant on the selected flight on a particular date and destination. 
• If the fare of your newly selected flight is more as compared to the initial Indigo flight, then you are required to make an additional payment to the airline, and if the fares are less, then your money will be refunded in the original mode of transaction or Indigo travel vouchers.

Flight changes are also permissible at the airport if your Indigo flights are canceled at the last moment or delayed due to reasons under air carrier direct control. How many times can we change the date on an IndiGo flight?

If you flying in a domestic flight and you go for flight cancellation within 3 days from the date of your scheduled flight, then you will be charged Rs 3,500 from the airline. The rest of the amount along with taxes will be refunded to you. But when you choose to cancel it before 4 days from your flight, you will be charged Rs 3,000. When you are looking to change the flight dates, for changing it within 3 days from the date fo your flight, you will have to pay a total of Rs 3,000. But when you change your flight before 4 days, you will be charged Rs 2,500 only.

IndiGo Offers Free Unlimited Changes On Domestic Flight Bookings

Low-cost carrier IndiGo on Friday announced an extension on ‘Freedom To Change Offer’ the airline is now allowing its customers to make unlimited changes for their domestic flight bookings up to June 30.

Earlier the airline is offered this facility for all flight tickets booked till May 31st, but now the same has been extended till June 30.

“We are doing everything we can to offer safe, smooth, and hassle-free travel in these uncertain times. So, don’t worry if you are unsure about your travel dates. Book today and enjoy making unlimited changes to your booking without incurring any change fee,” said IndiGo on its website.

IndiGo Freedom To Change Offer

Under the Freedom To Change Offers, the airline is allowing its customer to change Date, Flight, and Time without paying any change Fee. The offer is applicable on all new bookings made up to 30th June 2021, on regular fares under this offer.

However, if customer cancels the booking or changes the sector, in which cases the “cancellation fee” will be chargeable at currently applicable rates

Terms and Conditions

• IndiGo is offering an unlimited “change fee” waiver to its customers booking IndiGo operated domestic flights from April 17, 2021, to June 30, 2021 (both dates inclusive) (“Offer Period”) on selective fare options, through any booking platform, in accordance with the terms specified herein (“Offer”).
• The Offer is available for IndiGo operated domestic flights only. For clarity, the Offer is not available for international travel booked on IndiGo’s flights.
• The “change fee” will be waived off for any changes made to the travel date by the customer for their bookings made during the Offer Period, without any restrictions on the changed travel date. However, the Offer shall not apply in the event the customer cancels the booking or changes the sector, in which cases the “cancellation fee” will be chargeable at currently applicable rates.
• The Offer is applicable to all domestic travel bookings on selective fare options (i.e. Regular Fare, Flexi plus fare, and Family fare) for one-way, connecting and round-trip flights on all IndiGo operated aircraft. However, the Offer is not applicable to group bookings made on IndiGo’s flights.
• This is a limited period offer valid between  April 17 – June 30, 2021 .

We are working closely with our partners to extend complete support and comfort to our travellers for all domestic and international bookings.

We are working in tandem with our airline partners to offer an option to change their travel dates with no-fee charge.

In light of the recent COVID-19 outbreak, certain airlines have confirmed their policy for date change without penalty (only the fare difference will apply) or a full refund on cancellation. These policies might be applicable for travel on specified routes and within specified periods.

Please locate the airline you are booked on in the section below, and check if your booking is eligible for a date change without penalty or a full refund on cancellation.

Important Information : Dear customer, the airlines may change their rules without notice and at their discretion. Though we are updating the same here, given the ever-evolving situation, we request you to please check the policies with the airline too, before making any changes to your travel plans.

Flight Change Policy / Flight Amendment Policy

For all bookings done till 30 th June‘21 and travel date till 30 th June‘21, you can now change your flight to any new travel date free of cost till up to 24 hours from date/time of departure.

Route Eligibility: All domestic routes

Amendment Policy: Reschedule your travel for any future date without any penalty charges. Only fare difference will apply.

Initial Booking Date: Till 31 st March 2020

Initial Travel Date: Till 30 th April 2020

Number of Changes Allowed: One change allowed before original travel date

Time Limit: Up to 3 days prior to departure

Cancellation Policy: If you wish to cancel a flight that is operational, cancellation charges will apply as per the cancellation policy shared at the time of booking. 

Cancellation Policy:

• You are eligible for a full refund, if the flight is cancelled by the airline.

Amendment Policy:

• You can reschedule your travel, without any date-change charges, for both domestic and international existing bookings, with initial travel starting before 31 st December 2020. Fare difference will apply.
• Number of changes allowed: One
• Re-routing also permitted.
• Changes must be made before 31 st May 2020, and not later than 48 hours before initial departure date.

For all bookings done between 17 th Apr‘21 and 30 th June‘ (with no travel date restrictions), you can now change your flight to any new travel date free of cost till up to 2 hours from date/time of departure.

For all bookings done between 17 th Apr‘21 and 30 th Jun’21and travel date between 17 th Apr‘21 and 5 th Jul‘21, you can now change your flight to any new travel date free of cost till up to 5 days from date/time of departure.

For all bookings done between 1 st May‘21 and 10 th June‘21 and travel date between 1 st May‘21 and 31 st Jul‘21, you can now change your flight to new travel dates between 1 st May‘21 and 31 st Jul‘21 free of cost till up to 24 hours from date/time of departure. The offer is not applicable on group bookings. The offer shall not apply in the event the customer cancels the booking or changes the sector, in such cases the "cancellation fee" will be chargeable at current applicable rates.

PLEASE NOTE: All flights are suspended for travel from 25 th March 2020 till 17 th May 2020. For your travel between these dates, you are eligible for a full refund.

For all bookings done till 30 th June‘21 and travel date till 30 th June‘21, you can now change your flight to any new travel date free of cost till up to 2 hours from date/time of departure.

Flight Impacted? 

• Due to the COVID-19 surge, UAE authorities have restricted the entry of Indian nationals travelling from India to UAE. If any flight booked by you between 25 th April and 4 th May ’21 has been impacted, you have the following options.

Opt for Credit Shell

• The airline is offering a full refund in the form of a Credit Shell. This can be used to make any future booking for the same number of passenger(s), should you choose to take it. Please visit MyTrips to raise a refund request.
• Due to the COVID-19 surge, Canada authorities have restricted the entry of Indian nationals travelling from India to Canada. If any flight booked by you between 23 rd April and 23 rd May ’21 has been impacted, you have the following options.

Opt for a Free Date Change

• You can change your current flight date and book a future date without any rescheduling charges. Only the fare difference (if any) will have to be paid. Please visit MyTrips to change the date for your flight.

Opt for Full Refund or Free Date Change

• The airline is offering a full refund, should you choose to take it. We will transfer the refund to you as soon as we receive it from the airline. Please visit MyTrips to raise a refund request.
• You can also change your current flight date and book a future date without any rescheduling charges. Only the fare difference (if any) will have to be paid. Please visit MyTrips to change the date of your flight.
• Due to the COVID-19 surge, UK authorities have restricted the entry of Indian nationals travelling from India to UK. If any flight booked by you between 23 rd April and 30 th April’21 has been impacted, you have the following options.

• Passengers are allowed one free change (all penalties and service charges waived) to rebook their journey for travel on an alternative flight from India provided rebooking is in the same cabin (same or next available RBD) within the validity of ticket. Any change required to the inbound portion of the journey must be rebooked at the same time. Any subsequent changes will be subject to standard ticket penalties.

Thus, if the Customer cancels the booking, Goibibo will deduct the cancellation charge/penalty as applicable from INR. 9,400/- and the balance amount will be credited to the Customer's account
• In the event of rescheduling, the Customer shall bear the fare difference (regardless of whether the component is in the base fare or in tax + surcharge) and other applicable rescheduling fees
• User Agreement and Privacy Policy at Goibibo website shall apply
• Customers, who are Travel Agents by occupation, are barred from making bookings for their customers and Goibibo reserves the right to deny the Offer against such bookings and to cancel such bookings. For such cases, Goibibo will not refund the booking amount
