When Is It Okay To Go Back to Your Old High School?
In the second to last week of September, my old high school had their Homecoming game. Since we're not at a University, and therefore don't have a football team, my best friends and I decided to attend the game. It had been months since I last went to a game, and I was craving those Friday night lights. Finding the appropriate apparel for the game was a no-brainer. Since we were Alumni we didn't have to dress up since there was no dance for us to attend afterwards. Getting good seats were easy too. In high school, my best friends were a part of our spirit squad, the Maroon Platoon, so we decided to sit with them. Members of the Platoon get to paint their faces and act wild, which really gets the crowd going. It was fun, and we received a lot of hugs and "I miss you"s. I also got to see my old cheer squad!
After the game, we ate at Pluckers and reminisced on the night. We talked about how much fun we had and how much we missed it all. Then the topic of "When is it okay to visit your old high school, or attend high school events" came up. I asked a couple of my friends, and here is what we came up with:
The Unofficial list of when it's okay for you to visit your high school
- Homecoming Games: First break from college
- Graduation: Congratulate our underclassmen friends
- Drama Club Plays: To see a possibility of new and upcoming stars
- Playoffs/Finals/Competitions: To support former teammates
- Hog Week: A fundraiser pep rally held annually in the spring sponsoring a child's wish
- Senior Nights: This can only last until all the seniors you know graduate
- End of the year/ When you're old: Update old teachers on your progress in college/life
- Holidays : Already home, so you might as well
- Visiting favorite teachers: To see if they're giving as much homework now as they gave you then.
- Never: There's no reason to go back.
Like the title says, this list is totally unofficial, and completely debatable.
