  • I pray for your safe journey. May this trip will help you resolve the problems and struggles you are facing.
  • I thank God for allowing you to take this journey.
  • In this journey, nobody will dare to stop the sun nor stop the flowing breeze. May your experiences will fill your empty heart
  • I pray to our dear God that He will bless your way to your destination
  • Lord, may you protect and cover my friend’s journey.
  • Lord, you are our guide. May you help my brother find the right path through this trip
  • May the Lord bless you and help you learn things that will make you grow
  • This trip has been my long prayer for you. Enjoy it!
  • I see your eyes are gleaming, and your smile is breaking. Thank you, Lord, for this opportunity to travel
  • The Lord is your light. The Lord is your Shepherd. Do not be afraid of your journey.
  • The Lord will surely bless and embrace you to comfort you. This trip will be your chance to self-reflect

Traveling is fun and exciting. However, some journeys can be sad. But one thing is for sure, in this life we all have to move forward, take the path, and learn.

I hope you enjoy the safe journey wishes in this post!

Safe and enriching travels, my friend.

It was about 5 years ago that one of the loveliest people I’ve ever met sent that message to me.

At the time, I was just about to embark on a trip around New Zealand.

I set off with those beautiful words ringing in my ears, and they’ve stayed with me ever since.

For me, they provide the perfect example of safe journey wishes, and how the right message can have such a powerful effect on a traveller.

I mean, travelling is massively exciting, but it’s scary too.

Hearts race as the departure date looms; fear sets in as you imagine leaving home and parting ways with friends and family.

Receiving well-wishes from the people that matter most (and even from those you barely know) can make a big difference.

Those words provide reassurance, encouragement, and support.

The simplest message can provide just the dose of courage required to take that leap into the unknown.

You carry it with you into the adventures to come, packing them into your mental backpack to help you through any challenges ahead.

Are you wondering what to wish someone who’s about to go travelling?

Well, there’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from the internet! I’ve put together a long list of safe and happy journey wishes that I hope will help out.

Sound good? Keep reading!

#8 There is no place like home. But it is only by leaving that we appreciate how true this is. I hope you have a splendid trip, with no shortage of laughter and fun. #9 I hope you have a wonderful visit with welcoming people and sunny skies. And even though it will not be as awesome without me, I hope you have fun all the same. But next time, please take me with you! For now, a souvenir will buy my forgiveness. (Better make it a good one.) Have a safe trip back!

#13 Bon voyage! I hope your trip is the stuff of epic novels. The excitement of new adventures. The hypnotic sounds of an undiscovered world. The inviting blend of smells in the air. #14 As you embark on this journey, I hope you discover new things and explore new cultures. May the people you encounter be full of life. May the places you visit be luxurious and historic. #20 When you return from your travels, you won’t be the same person. Your body will be more relaxed and your mind clearer. Little things won’t matter anymore. It’s one of the most satisfying moments in life to be able to travel and explore the planet. Take this time to embrace the changes and have a nice journey.

#21 Don’t allow fear to get in the way of your exploring. Forget about planning or any type of schedule, and just embrace your freedoms. Look for the places that warm your heart and allow them to write lots of wonderful memories. Be free, be safe and step on all the cracks! These will lead you to the places most people are afraid to explore.

#25 Traveling is an addictive and enjoyable pursuit. Much like the ocean wind that calls out to the sailor in port, once it gets in your skin, you will never look back. It will call to you regularly and soon you will able to think of nothing else. Enjoy your travels.

#26 Making the decision to travel comes with the knowledge that you may experience some bumps in the road. So, to you I say, may your luggage never be lost, your flights all feel like short naps, and your passport always be full of stamps. Have a fun and safe trip.

#27 Whether this is your first time traveling or your one-hundredth trip, whether it feels like a new world you are visiting or like coming home, may you never lose the desire to explore our planet and seek out new adventures. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip.

#28 The dream of travel can draw us in like a moth to a flame. It can inspire us to learn new languages, to try new cuisines, and can even change our way of thinking. May your dreams of traveling always be alive. I hope you have a safe trip.

#29 I believe that traveling is what allows us to learn about the world and is what makes us human, for it is when we stop traveling that we cease to learn. I encourage you to never stop learning about the world around you. I hope you enjoy your trip.

#30 I know that traveling can be like a bug that we can’t quite shake off. It can infect us and give us a restless spirit to always want to see more. Good travels to you and may you never run out of new destinations to check off your list.

#31 Wishing you all the best on your travels. May you stay safe and happy in your adventure to new places. I am excited for you and look forward to hearing how things go. You are my best friend and our friendship will continue to span all the miles you will ever cross.

#32 Dear friend, I am hoping your trip goes well. May the road you take lead to much personal happiness in the future. Though there may be mountain tops and valleys, I am sure you will find the path that leads to your best future. Stay on it when you find it.

#33 Hoping all your plans go well and that your journey brings the sense of beginning a new season to your life. Traveling can be tiring but so rewarding, especially when you meet kind people on the way. Trusting that will be your experience. Wishing you smooth sailing and happy travels.

#34 As you travel mile upon mile, please know that you are thought of in the kindest way. I am sure all will go well for you, and that this will become an amazing time to cherish for years to come. Remember your destination is only part of the experience, so enjoy the scenery on the way.

#36 Hope that your journey is full of blue skies, with interesting people and beautiful places. May you travel safely to your destination and find that you feel right at home there. Settling in somewhere will take longer than getting there, but I am sure you are going to love it.

#37 Wishing you all the best on your travels. Remember that gas stations are not readily found in the middle of nowhere. Rooting for you as you embark on this expedition. Travel Happy: How to Be a More Joyful Traveler

Follow these expert tips to cultivate joy during your next trip—and long after returning home.

By Sean O'Connor

In my personal and professional experience as a life coach, joy is found wherever you get completely enveloped in an experience, when you’ve really lost yourself: your worries, your ego, your past, and your future. Travel is the perfect time for this reboot. It’s also an opportunity to step outside your comfort zone, explore new approaches to life, and form new habits.

Below are some insights into how you push your limits to really lose yourself in the travel experience, and cultivate more joy in the process. Then take the ethos behind these joy-inducing activities back to your daily life at home.

Lose Yourself in the Music

In Fiji last summer, I donned a sulu —a sarong-type garment both men and women wear—and danced the nights away in the village where I was staying on the southern tip of Taveuni , known as the Garden Island of Fiji. Never underestimate the power of dance. I was sweaty and a little uncomfortable, but I made friends shaking it with what seemed like absolutely everyone in the community. I danced with old women and men, too. I moved my hips enough that I had to constantly retie my sulu until a local helped me to tie it properly. Certainly I looked funny at times. My ego told me to stop. What’s really special is when you can push through any discomfort or self-consciousness to truly lose yourself in the moment.

Coaching Takeaway: Whether you are traveling or in your own environs, see where you can re-create this experience and take advantage of the smile-inducing, heart-rate rising, feel-good activity of dancing with abandon.

Connect Deeply With Others

Create real, true, deep connections. Introduce yourself to an elderly person. Make a new best friend. Get so connected with someone you will feel like their home is your home and vice versa. Learn as much as you can about who they are, and be willing to share yourself, too. When language barriers get in your way, there’s always a possibility of communicating with a translator or simply communicating deeply through other means—it doesn’t have to be spoken language. Don’t miss these kinds of opportunities; they can lead to doors opening that offer you something entirely unique, like when I attended a traditional wedding in the heart of South Africa’s Zululand at the invitation of a friend of a friend of the security guard at my residence.

Coaching Takeaway: Creating meaningful connections with people while traveling will help you deepen and expand your capacity to empathize with people in your world. This, in turn, will help you create more authentic, connected relationships in your family, your romantic life, and even in your workplace.

Help a Brother Out

On the coast of Mozambique , while my travel mates went out diving with whale sharks, my forgetfulness bit me in the butt. I had not packed my diver certification card, so I was left land-bound. With nothing else to do, I drove into town and, on the way, picked up some locals walking in from their villages. I decided to spend the day helping one run his errands. My rental car was a boon for him. We shopped for vegetables at the local market, made a visit to the clinic, negotiated on his wages with his boss at his job, and visited his young son. Using my day to explore the local scene and help this man sort out his problems helped me remove myself from my own. Whether it is a formal volunteer opportunity or something more spontaneous, help out others whenever possible to access a deeper level of joy within yourself. It gives us access to our highest selves.

Coaching Takeaway: You already provide service to your family or in the workplace while at home. See where you can go further and push your comfort zone of helping others. Look for opportunities while traveling to get this habit started.

Step Blindly Off a Cliff

Don’t do this literally. Figuratively, I am speaking about stepping out into the unknown. This must be practiced. Our natural inclination as humans is toward survival and comfort. We avoid the unknown. Find an experience on your trip that truly feels like stepping out into the unknown. This might be showing up somewhere with no itinerary or staying in a local’s home, if lucky enough to get invited. Or step off the side of a plane (parachute attached). It is going to look different for everyone. What is comfortable for one person is wildly uncomfortable to another. Personally, having no plans tends to make me a bit anxious. I have to practice being with the unknown and the unplanned. Doing so helps me expand my repertoire of how to deal with situations out of my control, quash the anxiety, and create more space for joy.

Coaching Takeaway: The landscape beyond our comfort zones is where we discover new things about ourselves, where we expand and grow. Challenge yourself while on your travels, then take the practice home. Be safe, be culturally sensitive, but be bold.

Engage the Senses

You may already be a person who lives by the adage of stopping to smell the roses. But life is a busy vixen. She is full of tricks and turns to throw us off our game. Our ability to be truly present erodes over time. Travel is a great opportunity to hit the reset button, and once we’ve reset we have the luxury of engaging our senses to practice being present. This can look a lot of different ways, but a simple exercise is to practice a different sense each day. Keep a sense journal and, on day one, inventory the smells that infiltrate your olfactory receptors. Then work through the others.

Coaching Takeaway: Re-upping your skills of being present is actually a meditative exercise to clear your mind, and in a clear mind joy has room to bubble up and spread within and outside of us.

Unpack the Story of Food

Food is a cultural staple. Every place you will visit has a food story and things that make the geography unique from a culinary standpoint. While cooking a large meal for a group at a ski lodge in the Southern Alps of New Zealand , I made new friends and learned heaps on the sheep-farming industry, all while cooking lamb steaks on the grill. Use food as your foray into learning about the ingredients, traditions, and techniques that make a place special. Curiosity and learning stimulate the brain and underpin creativity, which in turn can lead to joy.

Coaching Takeaway: Cooking is a way to practice presence and truly be in the moment, making yourself available for learning, laughter, and creativity. Taking time to learn and enjoy the process from beginning to end will be sure to raise our joy factor a few degrees.

Start With Yourself

Here you are. Right here, right now. Your joy matters. The world needs a lot more of it, and your capacity to cultivate it within you directly translates to creating a space for happiness around you. While on the plane or train traveling to your destination, make a list of joy-blockers. Note that we are not talking simply about the things that make you smile or laugh. Joy is that deep contentment and lasting happiness that you can call upon within yourself even in the most troubling of circumstances. Take a look at what factors, beliefs, and circumstances rob you of your joy. While you are out experiencing your destination, work through your list of joy-blockers and see what action there is or what support you might need to bypass them.

Coaching Takeaway: Joy is really something you can actively cultivate, so use your next chunk of travel time to create this garden for yourself and share the bounty with others.

95 most inspirational travel quotes ever penned

Our favourite inspirational travel quotes have encouraged us to travel with abandon over the years. Perhaps they will do the same for you…

For us, there is no such thing as luxury travel; travel is, by default, a luxury. It is a privilege provided by the country of our birth, a privilege that many are not as fortunate to enjoy.

Sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves at just how ridiculous our lives have become: an ex-teacher and jobbing writer travelling the world for a living. It is absurd, it is astonishing, it is luxury.

When I first went travelling at 21 years old, my father gave me this quote scrawled on a piece of card.

inspirational travel quotes

It infused me with wanderlust. It encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, make the most of my time, see the world and enjoy the freedom that comes with being on the road. It remains one of the most inspirational travel quotes I’ve read (even if Twain did not actually say it).

Today, 20 years and almost 100 countries later, it’s still in my wallet. Despite its tattered and dishevelled appearance, it’s every bit as important to me now as it was then.

With that in mind, we’ve collated our most beloved inspirational travel quotes to encourage readers to “explore, dream and discover” for themselves.

“Is there anything, apart from a really good chocolate cream pie and receiving a large unexpected cheque in the post, to beat finding yourself at large in a foreign city on a fair spring evening, loafing along unfamiliar streets in the long shadows of a lazy sunset, pausing to gaze in shop windows or at some church or lovely square or tranquil stretch of quayside, hesitating at street corners to decide whether that cheerful and homy restaurant you will remember fondly for years is likely to lie down this street or that one? I just love it. I could spend my life arriving each evening in a new city.” – Bill Bryson

“Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.” – Benjamin Disraeli

“I want to look at a map and be able to remember how I was transformed by the places I’ve been to, the things I’ve seen and the people I’ve met. I want to come home and realize that I have not come home whole but have left a piece of my heart in each place I have been. This, I think, is what is at the heart of adventure and this is why I plan on making my life one.” – Becca Martin

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” – Karl Lagerfeld

“Repetition doesn’t create memories. New experiences do.” – Brian Chesky

“One of my favorite vacation memories was the Thai foot massage and Internet access salons in Bangkok, followed up by my testing cellphone coverage while wading in Provincetown Harbor on Cape Cod.” – Kara Swisher

Old travel memories quotes

It’s easy to think of travel happening only in our time of airplanes, high speed trains, and

“Take only memories, leave only footprints.” – Chief Seattle

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.” – L.M. Montgomery

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – most commonly attributed to Mark Twain, but this quote likely came from H. Jackson Brown

Mark Twain is probably one of the most quoted authors on the planet. Many clever and inspiring quotes did originate from Twain, but the quote above isn’t one. It’s commonly attributed to Twain, but it likely originated with H. Jackson Brown’s 1990 book, P.S. I Love You.

Family travel memories quotes

“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.” – Og Mandino

“Summer will end soon enough, and childhood as well.” – George R.R. Martin

Love social media? These quotes are perfect if you’re looking for throwback travel memories quotes for Instagram!

If you’re looking for inspiration for your wanderlust, you should find the perfect quotation above!

Excellent inspirational quotes, especially, “Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in an office or mowing your lawn. Climb that damn mountain.” I also like, “No one on their death bed says I wish I worked more.” Not sure who said that one.

Nice quotes, reading through them I mentally had flashbacks to the places I’ve gone.

I love these travel memories quotes! They make me want to pack my bags and head out on a new adventure!

11 Better Ways To Say “Safe Travels”

“Safe travels” is a polite way to wish somebody well on their upcoming journey. However, there are better ways to be polite and reassuring to your friends when they’re ready to go somewhere (often by plane). This article will share the best alternatives for such a case with you.

What Can I Say Instead Of “Safe Travels”?

There are plenty of ways to use “safe travels” in more exciting manners. You should check out one of the following:

  • Have a good flight
  • Happy landings
  • See you on the other side
  • Let me know when you arrive safely
  • Stay safe out there
  • Enjoy your trip
  • Have a relaxing time away
  • Happy travels

Better Ways To Say Safe Travels

The preferred version is “be safe” because it keeps it simple. It’s a common phrase we use when we want to wish someone well, and we don’t want them to come across any complications or dangers that might occur if they’re not “careful” enough.

“Be safe” is great to show we care about someone. It lets them know that we worry about them, and we want them to stay “safe” no matter what happens. It works regardless of the method of transport for the journey as well, which makes it a good general phrase.

It’s common for family members to use the phrase “ be safe ” when seeing each other off. This shows that there is a lot of love behind the phrase and that it works well to show how much you care about someone’s wellbeing.

Here are a few ways we might be able to use this phrase:

  • Be safe out there. I know you like to find trouble, but for once, I’d love it if you looked after yourself!
  • Be safe on your way out! I would love to hear from you and see the pictures of all the things you get up to.
  • Don’t forget to message me when you get there! Be safe, and I love you!

“Safe trip” is a simple phrase we can use to make sure someone knows we care. Using words like “safe” reminds people that we worry about them. Even if we are not physically there with them, we hope they are “safe” and do not get into trouble.

This phrase works well regardless of the trip that someone is taking. It could be a long-distance or a short-distance trip. Likewise, it could be by car, plane, boat, or something else entirely!

This phrase works in the following situations:

  • Safe trip, Yuri! I’ll miss you, but I know you’ll be thinking about me while you’re away.
  • Safe trip back to your hometown, then. Let me know when you get there safely.
  • Safe trip, old friend. I’ll see you again whenever you’re next in town!

Have A Good Flight

“Have a good flight” is appropriate to use when someone is going to get on a plane . We use “flight” here to be specific, which helps us to show that we know what someone is getting up to and what they’re likely going to expect from their journey.

We can use this phrase in the following ways:

  • Have a good flight! I’m sure you can get all the food and drink you want on there!
  • Have a good flight, and don’t forget to let me know when you land safely!
  • Have a good flight! There’s nothing to worry about, and you know it’ll all be okay!

Happy Landings

“Happy landings” specifically highlights the “landing” portion of a journey. It works well when someone is going on a plane, and we want them to be “happy” throughout the course of their journey.

Here are a few useful examples of how this one works:

  • Happy landings, fella! Don’t forget that they really like their tips out there when you’re dining out!
  • Happy landings, then! I’ll miss you every second, so I want you to send me all the photos you can!
  • Happy landings! Don’t forget to explore some of the local scenery!

See You On The Other Side

“See you on the other side” is an informal idiom that works well in many cases. We can do it when we know that someone will be returning to see us again soon. “The other side” indicates the place where we will be staying while they go on a journey.

Check out some of these examples to see how it looks:

  • See you on the other side, then! Have a great holiday!
  • Have a great time away, Fred! See you on the other side!
  • I’ll be here waiting for you as always! See you on the other side!

Let Me Know When You Arrive Safely

“Let me know when you arrive safely” is a calm way to let someone know that you are worried. When they arrive at their destination, we can ask them to “message” us to ease our minds and show us that they are thinking about us even after their journey.

We could also use a phrase like “text me when” instead of “let me know when.” If we want to be more specific about the manner of messaging, this phrase works just as well.

This phrase works well in the following ways:

  • Let me know when you arrive safely, please! You know how much I worry about you while I’m not around!
  • Text me when you arrive safely, please! I want to know just how much fun you’re getting up to.
  • Let me know when you arrive safely! I’ll miss you every second that you’re away.

Stay Safe Out There

“Stay safe out there” is a good way to show that you care about someone. “Stay safe” helps to let them know that you’ll be looking out for them and that you want them to explore, but in a reasonable way that won’t cause them harm.

We typically use this phrase when someone is going on a long-distance journey. “Out there” is a good indicator of that.

Check out some of these examples to see how it works:

  • Stay safe out there, then! I know you’ll make all the best choices while you’re away.
  • Stay safe out there! I’ll miss you, but I know you’ll be having an absolutely adoring time!
  • Stay safe out there. You never know what hijinx you might get into, so make sure you text me!

Enjoy Your Trip

“Enjoy your trip” is a simple way to show someone that you care. It helps to let them know that we want them to “enjoy” themselves. While trips can sometimes be boring (especially long-distance ones), we want people to feel like they can still have fun.

This simple phrase works as follows :

  • Enjoy your trip, Michael! Let me know when you arrive so we can discuss the adventure more!
  • Enjoy your trip! Don’t forget to immerse yourself in the local culture when you get there!
  • Enjoy your trip! I expect you to be fluent in German by the time you get back, okay?

Have A Relaxing Time Away

“Have a relaxing time away” works well in many cases. It’s most effective when we know that someone is inclined to worry (whether about the journey or the place they’re going). If we want to calm them down, this phrase works well.

These examples will help you make more sense of it:

  • Have a relaxing time away! Remember, you don’t need to worry about a thing when you get on that plane!
  • Have a relaxing time away! If anyone deserves it, it is most certainly you!
  • Have a relaxing time away! I’m going to miss you, but I know you’ll be back in no time!

Happy Travels

“Happy travels” works really well when we want people to feel “happy” on their journey. “Travels” can refer to any method of transport, but the idea is that they’ll be spending a long time getting from point A to point B, and we want them to feel “happy.”

Perhaps one of these examples will help you make more sense of it:

  • Happy travels, mate! I know you’ll love it over there in Australia, but you must tell me all about it.
  • Happy travels, Sue! I’ll miss you, so don’t forget to write to me every day about what you do.
  • Happy travels, Dan! Thank you for coming to see me again, and I’ll see you again soon, yeah?

“Bon voyage” is a great way to wish someone well before they go on an adventure. It’s French (and Italian), and it means “good journey.” It’s a commonly-used exclamation in English when we want to wish somebody well for something they’re going to do.

It’s also comforting because it shows that we do not wish any problems to come their way when they’re on their journey.

  • Bon voyage, my little friend! I’ll see you again when you return!
  • Bon voyage, then! I will miss you, but I hope you get a chance to text me a bunch when you get there!
  • Bon voyage! I love you so much, and I’ll definitely miss you while you’re away.

Since the Siargao is a tropical place and many customers need some new experience of the food, here we introduce the “Tropico Loco” where we introduce the “Mix-and-match” type of cuisine.

In our restaurant we provide a mouth watering experience of giving the pleasure to our customers since they will choose their own ingredients on their own plate. We provide different fruits, syrups and also the coconuts bowls that they will serve as their plate.

We have also our drinks but the customers are the one who choose what kind of drinks that will quench their thirst. There are different combinations from straberry-lychee, watermelon-apple and many more.

The Teamlab Borderless Tokyo Japan should have a chat services/virtual assistants needed to cater in order to answer inquiries directly instead of heading to their linked contact information. Next feature needed in the virtual museum is the User-generated reviews, through this they will be able to know what their viewers think about their experiences in the website and their featured artworks. Online reviews help improve the functionality and ease of access of the virtual museum and they will be able to adapt to the needs of their audience. To make the site/virtual museum more engaging to its viewers/visitors, they must create an interaction between the artworks and the viewers/visitors to provide a full experience of the virtual museum and its offerings.

For those who are planning to visit this country this is a complete guide for the possible beautiful places and activities they can choose from. However due to the COVID 19 pandemic this activities have been limited due to travel restrictions, safety protocols and prohibition of public events. In my opinion, in order to attract tourist back to any travel destination, Businesses should intensify the Advertisements on promotions relative to Group Tour by by making a Live Video Marketing of products and services offered by the country. Provide Lesser Travel Restrictions to vaccinated tourists and improve confidence of tourist in terms of COVID prevention of virus by ensuring that workers are vaccinated and regular disinfection schedule.

In this digital age, everything are available in the internet hence it will be advantageous if all the needed information’s on current discounts, tour promos and other services are posted via internet advertisements. Prevention and control measures are essential for the protection of workers and the reopening and continued operation of the tourism industry.

What do you think this place is representing? – I chose Western Visayas because, though there are a lot of tourist destinations in the country, Western Visayas have also a lot to offer. Western Visayas is known for its celebration of yearly festivals. I believe that it represents the history and culture of every Negrosanons. It also represents the country’s natural form with its beautiful beaches and mountains. If you are the leader/head of the tourism in the country, what will you do to improve this destination? – If I am the head of the tourism in the Philippines, I will help improve this destination by giving it a light and focus on promoting it, because here in the Philippines there are a lot of tourist destination, in which we were given the moniker as Pearl of the Orient Sea, but destinations such as Palawan, Baguio, Albay have already been introduced to tourist and is already widely known, so I will focus on promoting tourist destinations that are unfamiliar to tourist but will also “wow” them when they visit, specifically here in Negros, we have the Don Salvador Benedicto which is a breath of fresh air, as well as the Campuestuhan Highland Resort.

Catholic institutions should not force anybody to become one of them.Because we are living in democratic country, Which is we have our own freedom to do what we want as long as it’s not against in country law. Each of us can choose what we want to be or where we want to be. Like in religion if u want to belong in any religion you are free to do it. People now a day don’t have care where you belong as long as you’re a good person or employe it’s doesn’t matter what religion you’re belong. Because it’s not about religion it’s about how u treat your fellow human.

The Nordic country topped the rankings with a score that was "significantly ahead of all other countries," according to the World Happiness Report 2023 published this week. The report, which the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network published and a team of independent experts wrote, measures factors including average income and mental and physical health. The data for the report is primarily taken from Gallup's World Poll.

After repeated success in the area, Visit Finland is now offering ten people the chance to come to the country and learn how to be happy like the Finnish.

Visit Finland's " Masterclass of Happiness " is scheduled to take place over four days in June at the Kuru Resort in Finland's Lake District. Visit Finland will cover all travel and accommodation expenses, which include a private room, access to a private sauna and spa, and all other "essential facilities," according to Visit Finland's website.

The trip includes sessions with Finnish experts to learn about nature crafts, food, well-being, health, and balance, according to the website.

Applications are open now until April 2, with hopefuls asked to make an Instagram Reel or a TikTok showing why they "may secretly be a Finn" as part of their application. The participants will also be filmed during the visit with the material used for Visit Finland's advertising, according to the website.

Heli Jimenez, senior director at the governmental organization Business Finland, said in a press release that Finland's national happiness "stems from a close relationship with nature and our down-to-earth lifestyle: it's not some mystical state."

It is a "skill that can be learned," she said.

5 Delicious Happy Valley (PA) Restaurants You Won't Want to Miss

H idden away in the geographic heart of Pennsylvania, Happy Valley is known not only for its scenic splendors and the Nittany Lions’ pride but also for its burgeoning culinary scene. From palate-pleasing diners to sophisticated farm-to-table experiences, Happy Valley is a paradise for food lovers who delight in variety and flavor. If your taste buds are tingling for adventure, here’s a guide to five delicious Happy Valley restaurants that capture the true essence of this vibrant area.

Allen Street Grill

Perched elegantly on the corner overseeing the buzz of College Avenue,  Allen Street Grill  offers a classic dining experience with a view. Its storied history and refined ambiance blend harmoniously with a menu that celebrates American cuisine. It’s not just about serving dishes; it’s about crafting experiences.

You can’t say no to the antipasti platter piled high with artisan cheeses and meats, seasonal accouterments, and the most wonderful focaccia bread ever.

Allen Street’s Lobster Bisque, renowned for its creamy texture and depth of flavor, has a reputation all its own, but the Butternut Squash Soup with spiced chestnuts should also be considered.

While savoring the perfectly grilled grass-fed ribeye steak Au Poivre, you can soak in the warm and inviting atmosphere that Allen Street Grill is celebrated for. Other courses include Duroc pork chops, coffee-rubbed half chicken, and fried bronzini.

I went rogue from these tasty choices and settled for the Bucatini Carbonara, with forest mushrooms, bacon, and cracked peppercorn. It was a very satisfying choice.

I want to mention that Allen Street Grill is a gorgeous restaurant with a tremendous second-story outdoor patio. Or, if you are in a hurry, you may find seating in the more relaxed bar area. The genuine and stylish ambiance makes diners want to linger a little longer.

Reservations are recommended.

Federal Tap House

Federal Tap House is your go-to destination for a delicious Happy Valley restaurant if your definition of the perfect meal includes an artisan pizza with a selection of handcrafted beers. Home to over 100 beers on tap, it’s a gathering place for connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike.

But the Tap House is more than just beer – it’s a culinary delight.

I enjoyed the vibe of this place, with huge windows lining the rectangular-shaped eatery. There was so much natural light! There’s also a 360-degree bar area, should you prefer that to a table setting. You can catch your favorite sporting events on the TV(s) and enjoy happy hour Monday through Friday, 4:20 to 6 PM.

Federal Tap House’s wood-fired pizzas (check out that beautiful oven!) boast a perfect char and toppings that range from the classic to the creative, like the Green Mountain infusion, with apples, bacon, garlic butter, spinach, red onions, and a maple drizzle.

The Spinach & Artichoke Dip should not be missed when choosing appetizers, though the Potato & Cheese Pierogies are spot on, too. I’d heard all about the Crab Fries, so I chose them for my main course. Picture a heaping helping of warm hand-cut fries topped with crab meat, Old Bay seasoning, and a luscious three-cheese sauce drenching them in a blanket of tasty goodness.

OMG, this dish is easily a 10/10! Vegans and vegetarians will go gaga over this local eatery.

Original Waffle Shop

Sometimes simplicity wins the day, and that’s where  Original Waffle Shop  shines. A breakfast haven that residents flock to, expect to find no-fuss, hearty breakfasts, and yes, the world-famous waffles are cooked to golden perfection.

This local eatery is a staple for anyone desiring a genuine, home-cooked start to the day. And just the hanging planters alone brightened mine (see pic 4 below).

Original Waffle Shop waffles are not just a breakfast item; they’re the canvas for flavors ranging from sweet, indulgent strawberries and cream to chocolate chips or Georgia peaches. And the pancakes are a close runner-up.

I settled on a three-egg Greek Omelet with feta, spinach, and tomatoes. Omelets are served with a choice of two sides, one of which is a two-stack buttermilk pancake, so I had the best of both worlds—sweet and savory.

Shout out to the home fries, which are so tasty and full of flavor; they’ve received attention just like the rest of the meal, as opposed to just being an add-on with no real taste, which so many restaurants do.

Original Waffle Shop’s style is light and airy, adding an even greater mystique to why this location is always booming with business. The website insists, “Penn State students, alumni, faculty and staff alike have treated the restaurant as a “must visit’ spot,” and I would concur.

Anyone who has been to Happy Valley has likely eaten here and made a few culinary and sentimental memories.

Pine Grove Hall

Over in nearby Pine Grove Mills,  Pine Grove Hall  is not just a delicious Happy Valley restaurant, but also a site of cultural convergence. Here, the culinary arts mingle with live music and local artistry. Down-home charm meets sophistication and history in a bold and picturesque setting that is unlike anywhere I’ve been.

With a menu that offers fresh, locally sourced produce, dishes like the Braised Beef Short Rib capture the authentic taste of Pennsylvania’s countryside, combined with the cosmopolitan flair of modern gastronomy. Menus change often, but a few of the fantastic tapas-style items I tried were:

  • Spring cabbage served with peanut salsa matcha and smoky bonito.
  • Chicken fried quail with green garlic ranch and spiced hot honey.
  • House-made mozzarella with Italian rosemary ham and grilled Gemelli sourdough.
  • Quail egg toast on rye bread with creme fraiche, fish roe, and pickled mustard.

Pine Grove Hall is the sort of place that satisfies your appetite and feeds your soul. Please reserve a concert, seasonal event, or special occasion as early as possible; they fill up quickly.

RE Farm Cafe

At RE Farm Café , every dish tells a story of sustainability and community. Nestled within the Windswept Farm, it demonstrates a harmonious balance between agriculture, culinary craftsmanship, and ecological stewardship.

Guests at RE Farm Café will experience a seasonal menu that echoes the farm’s ethos, with ingredients picked fresh from the surrounding fields. Their Roasted Carrots, sourced straight from the garden, carry the whispers of the land, while their pasture-raised meats, like the succulent Lamb Chops, offer a richness that only responsible farming can produce.

I was there for a special event on my visit, and the chef went to the farm to pick out most of our ingredients. My group and I watched her prepare it from the high-top bar area.

We started with a simple green salad with radishes and Morel mushrooms. Lunch was a lamb roulade with mushrooms and a finger-licking good sauce.

To our surprise, the chef served dessert with mystery ingredients and asked us to guess what was in it. We all recognized mushrooms, but the secret ingredient was black garlic. Never in my life would I have thought this would be a good combination, but it was brilliant! It was creamy and somewhat Swiss chocolatey but without the richness. It was delightful.

Several people around Happy Valley said they loved RE Farm Cafe or wanted to go there, as in bucket list worthy. Even without having dinner, you can still come by the patio on weekends for beverages. Check the website for current hours.

Rev Up the Engine: Full Steam Ahead

Ready to savor the culinary delights of Pennsylvania’s Happy Valley? These five must-visit eateries are just the beginning of the tasty offerings. But your exploration should continue; Happy Valley is ripe with activities and sights.

Happy ‘mudik’, safe trip

The government has announced a four-day extended holiday, effectively giving Indonesians a 10-day holiday from Saturday until April 15.

Happy ‘mudik’, safe trip

very year, the Idul Fitri tradition of mudik (exodus) causes a great deal of excitement for more than 230 million Muslims in the country.

Severe traffic congestion, jam-packed train stations and airports and overpriced train and air fares often fail to discourage people from making long journeys to hometowns to celebrate the holiday with families and relatives. The same goes for China, whose citizens seek every path to return home for family reunions for the Spring Festival, or the United States prior to Thanksgiving Day.

This year, nearly three quarters of Indonesia’s population are expected to hit the road for the annual affair, potentially making it the largest mudik the country has observed. An estimate from the Transportation Ministry shows that a majority of holidaymakers still prefer to travel by road either in private cars, on buses or motorcycles.

To ease gridlock, several traffic policies, from one-way traffic engineering to odd-even rules, an alternate-day travel restriction based on license plate numbers, have been put in place on Java’s main toll roads starting on Friday.

In Central Java, to which 30 percent of travelers will be heading, an unfinished toll road connecting Surakarta and neighboring Yogyakarta province is being opened for day-time travel during mudik .

Despite authorities anticipating severe traffic and trying to ensure that travelers make their journeys as safely and efficiently as possible, a stretch of the Bogor-Ciawi-Sukabumi (Bocimi) toll road in West Java had to be partially closed on Wednesday evening following a rainfall-induced landslide. The incident on the Bocimi toll road, which only began operating less than a year ago, left two people hospitalized.

The Transportation Ministry estimates that more than 193 million people, or roughly 71 percent of the country’s population, will participate in the annual homecoming journey.

That figure will be a 56 percent rise compared with last year, when some 123.8 million people traveled to their hometowns freely without any COVID-19 restrictions for the first time since the soul-crushing pandemic.

To help alleviate congestion from today until Monday when the peak of the homebound travel is expected to happen, the government had encouraged holidaymakers to make earlier trips. The government has also announced a four-day extended holiday, effectively giving Indonesians a 10-day holiday until April 15.

All in all, the government is working to improve the exodus this year and there was a decline in traffic accidents last year.

There are, of course, some concerns about the exodus and some unexpected problems may still emerge, just like Bocimi.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted light to moderate rainfall during the holiday season and warned that even moderate rains could still cause floods.

Police have also warned of the dangers of traveling with children on motorcycles during mudik . Free buses to transport these travelers, along with trucks to carry their motorcycles, have been provided by the government as an alternative means of transportation. Hopefully this will prove to be of benefit.

Idul Fitri is about tradition and reunions with families, relatives and friends. So it is fair to demand the authorities work harder for safe travel and bid fellow travelers to take part in ensuring a safe and enjoyable trip.

There are, of course, many people who will not have the luxury of celebrating the holiday with their loved ones. Many police and military personnel, medical workers at hospitals, firefighters and search and rescue workers will be on standby for emergency assignments, in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of holidaymakers throughout the post-Ramadan festival. They deserve our highest appreciation for their sacrifice.

For those who are traveling for Idul Fitri, have a safe trip!

Live updates: Total solar eclipse to cross North America today

Eclipse day has arrived!

A total solar eclipse — nicknamed the Great American Eclipse for its long path over North America — will be visible in the sky today over parts of Mexico, 15 U.S. states and eastern Canada.

If conditions are clear, tens of millions of people will be treated to stunning views as the moon passes between Earth and the sun and temporarily blocks the sun’s light.

Quick eclipse links

KERRVILLE, Texas — We're at the Kerrville eclipse festival in the park where at least 1,000 people have already set up their beach chairs and coolers.

This location is one of the first big towns in the U.S. that will see the eclipse starting at 2:32 p.m. ET. There’s still pretty heavy cloud cover, with loud cheers from the crowd whenever the sun has popped through.

Eclipse spectators line up at Indianapolis speedway

Eclipse watchers are headed to major events around the country, maybe none as big as Purdue University's watch party at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

NBC News' Lester Holt and Tom Costello will be there as well, providing live coverage as the totality passes overhead.

Eclipse watchers filing in to NASA event in Cleveland

Jesse Kirsch

CLEVELAND — Blue skies... at least for now! Crowds started filing through security at the Great Lakes Science Center around 10 a.m. ET. The expected crowd at this NASA event ? Roughly 30,000.

Cleveland is one of the biggest cities in the path of totality today, with the free outdoor event featuring eclipse glasses, a "NASA Village" of exhibits, performances and screenings of two films.

Weddings, flights, cruises: How some plan to celebrate total eclipse

Along the path of totality, tens of millions are gathering for the out-of-this-world eclipse whose shadow will sweep across the United States. NBC News' Jesse Kirsch reports for "TODAY" on how people are celebrating, from hitting the slopes to getting married.

Cloud cover may clear along path of totality this afternoon

happy trip to

Denise Chow

An updated forecast from the National Weather Service appears to show a lucky break in cloud cover for some cities along today’s path of totality.

Kyle Struckmann, a national aviation meteorologist for the weather service at the FAA Command Center, detailed the weather outlook in a video posted on X. The forecast showed clouds over most of eastern Texas and stretching up into the Tennessee Valley, with more clouds from the Appalachians north to Detroit.

But he said those clouds will be moving east as the day progresses. By the time the eclipse starts crossing Texas, he said clouds may move out of the Dallas area, with conditions also appearing to clear over Arkansas, Missouri and Indiana.

Unfortunately for those in the Great Lakes region, Struckmann said afternoon clouds are forecast around Buffalo and other parts of upstate New York.

“Once we get to New England, things will be very clear,” he said. “So, very good viewing conditions for the eclipse expected up there.”

Traffic officials warn drivers about eclipse rubbernecking

happy trip to

Rich Bellis

April is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s  Distracted Driving Awareness Month , and today promises to put its message to the test.

As the eclipse nears, the agency is  urging drivers  to keep their eyes on the road, not the sky, and to  avoid pulling over in unsafe locations  like the shoulders of highways and interstates (try a parking lot instead).

In Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine has activated the Ohio Emergency Operations Center, with his press secretary  telling NBC News , “What we’re mostly concerned about is traffic” throughout the state, where the path of totality extends from Dayton to Cleveland.

A matrix road sign displays a message for drivers about the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 in Lackawanna, New York.

Further south, the Texas Department of Transportation is also  telling drivers to keep moving . Airport officials have been  preparing for visitor volumes  to resemble those on a typical holiday weekend. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has extra aviation department staffers on hand to keep ticket counters and security checkpoints running smoothly but has warned of long lines at rental car desks.

The small city of Perryville, Missouri, is also  planning to head off backed-up roadways , but Perry County Sheriff Jason Klaus said his officers are doing “everything we can not to use any kind of parking enforcement.” They’re hoping to hand out more free eclipse glasses than parking tickets; every patrol car will have an extra stash.

Former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino joined "TODAY" to talk about the science of the eclipse, as well as why it's an opportunity to gain a greater appreciation of our cosmic neighborhood.

For some 'umbraphiles,' eclipse chasing is a way of life

Nidhi Sharma

At 22, Ella Ross is among the younger members of a community of umbraphiles — a term that comes from the word umbra , the shadow cast by the moon as it blocks out the sun. These eclipse chasers dedicate their lives to tracking down eclipses around the world.

Three umbraphiles currently hold the record for witnessing total solar eclipses. Each of them has seen 33, but Ross plans on breaking that record in her lifetime.

“I know where I’m going to be for the next solar eclipse and a couple more after that,” she said. “I’ve planned where I’m going to be up until 2098.”

Tyler Nordgren, an active member of the umbraphile community, has spent decades chasing eclipses. He has witnessed 10 total solar eclipses, gives lectures on the events and has led several umbraphile expeditions to remote locations.

“Once people get captured by this, they’ll travel literally to the ends of the Earth,” he said. “I’ve seen totality from a ship in the middle of the Atlantic and on a three-week trip from Spain to Barbados. I sailed to the Antarctic in 2021 to see a total solar eclipse, and I’ll be seeing it again from a fjord in Greenland in 2026.”

Nordgren is an astronomer and an artist, specializing in educational posters based on towns in the path of totality. Over the years, he has designed eclipse posters featuring places from Oregon to Maine.

This year, Nordgren partnered with New York State Parks to create the I Love NY total eclipse poster. He is spending totality on the shores of Lake Ontario, at Fair Haven Beach State Park, where he will be giving a talk during the eclipse.

How to best photograph the total solar eclipse on your phone

happy trip to

Chelsea Stahl

Mirna Alsharif

If you’re planning to bear witness to the rare eclipse, you’re probably getting your phone cameras ready. But have you ever tried taking a picture of the sky and noticed it didn’t translate too well?

Here are some tips on how to best photograph today’s celestial event with your phone — no professional cameras required!

Just as your eyes need eclipse glasses to see the eclipse, your phone camera lens might too.

  • Try pressing your eclipse glasses close to your lens before totality, when the skies temporarily darken, to eliminate the light blooming. When totality happens, remove the filter or glasses — they’re no longer needed.
  • To focus your phone’s camera on the eclipse, try using its focus lock feature. Tap your screen on where you’d like to focus, then hold until you see the yellow AE/AF LOCK alert. Your phone will now keep that area in focus.
  • To minimize movement so you can get the clearest shot, use a tripod or your phone’s timer mode.

This small Missouri city could cash in on the eclipse. It’s trying hard not to.

Harriet Baskas

Perryville, about 80 miles south of St. Louis, is in the  path of totality  stretching from Texas to Maine, where the shadow of the moon will fully obscure the sun for several minutes.

All along that swath, businesses large and small are looking to cash in.  Delta Air Lines is running eclipse flights  from Austin and Dallas to Detroit. Hotels were  charging guests an average of $170 more  yesterday than on the same day last year, according to travel technology company Amadeus. Tickets to an  all-day sound healing retreat  in Vermont have been going for $222 a pop.

But in Perryville, population 8,500, many businesses are vowing not to price-gouge visitors, hoping they’ll come back after the big event is over.

Perryville is hosting a "Solarfest" event leading up to today's total eclipse.

William Shatner and Janelle Monáe headling eclipse events in Indiana

Maura Barrett

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana — Indiana University spent the weekend setting the stage, literally, for their Cosmic Hoosier celebration where William Shatner will be narrating the moment of totality with a spoken word performance just ahead of a Janelle Monáe concert.

Bloomington is a quintessential Midwestern college town — the 50,000 student population makes up most of the town’s 80,000 population count — but central Indiana is expecting hundreds of thousands to converge for the eclipse.

While scientists had been encouraging tourists to go to Texas for the best view, the forecast in Bloomington today is looking to have a solid mix of partial cloud coverage that will break up just in time for the afternoon eclipse.

Catherine Pilachowski, a distinguished professor of astronomy at Indiana Univeristy, says the expected turnout is encouraging.

"It’s like no other experience," she said. "It ties us to the universe in a way that we almost never get to experience. People find it unbelievably emotionally powerful, so we want to share that experience with everybody, just to show how connected we really are.”

Tourists arrive early in the Northeast

Marc Fortier, NBC Boston

Many eclipse tourists traveled to Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont over the weekend, making sure they arrived early and didn’t have to fight last-minute traffic.

In Vermont, downtown Burlington had a Mardi Gras vibe yesterday,as people packed the pedestrian mall.

And as early as Saturday in Maine, things were already getting pretty wild in Houlton, including a group of people in alien costumes seen making their way through the streets. Numerous people shared photos of cars decorated with eclipse messaging.

Follow NBC Boston's liveblog here.

Dallas libraries to help visually impaired experience eclipse using sound

happy trip to

Dennis Romero

The Dallas Public Library will help those who might not be able to completely see the solar eclipse get a sense of it through sound, it said.

Four branches of the library system will use "LightSound" devices developed at Harvard University for the blind and low-vision community. The Dallas Public Library said Harvard donated the devices.

They emit a musical tone that changes as the eclipse progresses, according to the university, which said they were developed specifically so the visually impaired to experience eclipses.

They use "sonification" to convert data into sounds, according to Harvard.

Library officials said LightSound devices will be available at four library locations during the eclipse: the Lakewood, Prairie Creek, Preston Royal and Vickery branches.

Map shows red-hot Airbnb demand along eclipse path

happy trip to

Data from short-term rental tracking site AirDNA shows the huge demand for short-term bookings in cities and towns located along the eclipse path last night.

In an interview with NBC News, AirDNA chief economist Jamie Lane said that listings within the band on Airbnb and VRBO, which AirDNA tracks, were effectively sold out as of Wednesday.

That’s true even for larger cities such as Dallas (more than 95% booked), Cleveland (more than 97% booked), and the Buffalo and Niagara Falls area (more than 98% booked).

Lane said rates for listings are elevated, but he did not offer specific figures. He said the total the volume of listings had declined from the average — likely, he said, because second-home owners chose to take advantage of their properties themselves for the big event.

Today’s storms forecast

happy trip to

Kathryn Prociv

Severe storms are expected today across portions of the totality path, with 16 million people across most of Texas, southern Oklahoma, and small parts of Arkansas and Louisiana under severe weather risks.

The storms will start around 3 to 4 p.m. local time and will last through the night, forecast to bring rain and the greatest risks of destructive softball-sized hail up to 4 inches in diameter, damaging wind gusts of over 60 mph and isolated tornadoes.

Tomorrow, 21 million people are at risk across much of Texas again and most of Louisiana with risks of very large hail and tornadoes.

A total of 3 million people are under flood watches across parts of northeast Texas, southern Arkansas and northwest Louisiana. Rainfall amounts in the next 24-72 hours could be a widespread 3-5 inches with locally higher amounts up to 8 inches.

What the eclipse looks like from the skies

Gadi Schwartz

Good morning! We are headed to the airport for some final checks.

We are taking two jets up to track the eclipse. The first will be carrying a state-of-the-art 8K high-speed camera that was used in the filming of "Top Gun."

We’ll be in the second jet flying on its wing as we approach the eclipse. The first jet will then break off to the Northeast as the eclipse approaches and will try to lock its camera onto the 118-mile-wide umbra.

We will break left, head straight into the eclipse and ride totality as long as possible. Should be the ride of a lifetime!

Photographers stake out their positions at Niagara Falls

Photographers take their positions early in the morning in preparation for the solar eclipse later today on April 8, 2024 in Niagara Falls, New York.

In New York, eclipse viewing party takes over aircraft carrier deck

George Solis

This morning, we are onboard the flight deck of the historic USS Intrepid for its solar eclipse viewing party.

The flight deck is poised to be one the prime viewing spots for the eclipse.

The museum’s fee is $36, half off for New York City residents.

NYC’s only aircraft carrier museum has commissioned 6,000 viewing glasses for the expected crowds. Although NYC is not in the path of totality, we are expecting somewhere around a 90% partial eclipse, and that’s enough for those hoping to get a (safe) glimpse of this cosmic confluence.

Eclipse safety 101

There's plenty to love about a cosmic event like today's eclipse, but keep in mind a couple safety precautions for your family and your pets:

Tens of millions gather to view the eclipse

happy trip to

Marlene Lenthang

Tom Costello

As many as 31 million people live within the path of totality, which stretches in a diagonal line from Mexico, through Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ohio, New York and Maine.

Newton Chu and his family traveled to Indianapolis to view the spectacle from Hawaii — their third eclipse sighting since 1991.

“I think it is a little emotional,” he said, noting that there are people often seen with tears in their eyes over witnessing “a phenomena of nature.”

Along the path, police expect highway gridlocks.

“We were told to compare it to 30 Super Bowls letting out at the same time,” Pennsylvania State Troop Capt. Kirk Reese said. “Don’t stop on the highway to view the eclipse. Don’t stop in the roadway. Turn your headlights on. Be safe.”

The last U.S. city in the path of totality prepares for the eclipse

happy trip to

HOULTON, Maine — Everybody's ready, even George Washington.

After a weekend of festivities — science demonstrations, movies and gatherings culminating in fireworks Sunday night — this small Maine town in the path of totality will be focused on today's eclipse.

Houlton’s population is just under 5,000. But hundreds of eclipse-chasing tourists have arrived already, and more are expected today.

Eclipse glasses cover a bust of George Washington in Houlton, Maine.

In a corner store turned eclipse information center, folks are invited to put a pin on the map representing where they’re from. Most are from New England but there are pins from as far away as California and Washington State. Someone drew on Australia and pinned it.

Locals are excited too. This is the first full eclipse here since 1963. And back then, there were clouds and storms and a lot of disappointment. Today, we may just have the best forecast on the entire path of totality. There are thin clouds now but this afternoon bright sunshine is predicted.

On the local station WHOU 100.1, the DJs are talking about how this eclipse has brought everyone together and the most noticeable thing is the “loudness of smiles” everywhere.

“Everybody in this town is gonna be connected… because we’re gonna be eclipse buddies.”

Scientists gear up to run experiments during solar eclipse

The eclipse is a rare opportunity for scientists to  study the Earth, the moon and the sun  “in entirely different ways than we usually do,” according to Pam Melroy, NASA’s deputy administrator.

One of the agency’s main priorities will be to observe the sun’s outer atmosphere, or the corona, which normally can’t be seen because the star is too bright. During a total solar eclipse, the corona comes into view as faint wisps around a glowing halo when the moon blocks light from the sun’s surface.

“Things are happening with the corona that we don’t fully understand, and the eclipse gives us a unique opportunity to collect data that may give insights into the future of our star,” Melroy said in a news briefing.

Scientists are interested in the corona because it plays a key role in transferring heat and energy into the solar wind, the constant stream of charged particles released from the sun’s outer atmosphere. The solar wind ebbs and flows, occasionally shooting high-powered  solar flares  into space. These can  hit Earth with electromagnetic radiation , which can cause radio blackouts and knock out power grids.

Eclipse day forecast

Clouds will increase ahead of severe thunderstorms expected across portions of the totality path from Texas to Arkansas today — but the good news is that the storms are expected to erupt after the totality ends.

There will be high cirrus clouds — which are thin, wispy and transparent — along much of the eclipse path, but these clouds are not enough to totally obscure the view. It’s the mid, low-level clouds that will obscure more of the eclipse.

Cloudy skies forecast for some — but not all — in eclipse's path

NBC News’ meteorologist Michelle Grossman has the latest weather forecast for today’s total eclipse. The East Coast is looking pretty clear, but the Gulf Coast is predicted to have a lot of cloud cover.

Clouds and storms may obscure solar eclipse view in states along its path

Clouds  and storms may potentially obscure views of  today’s total solar eclipse  in states along the  path of totality  in the southern Plains and the western Gulf Coast.

Around 20 million people in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma are at risk for severe weather at the start of the week, where multiple rounds of storms are forecast to start this afternoon. Very large hail will be the primary threat heading into today, with the threat shifting tomorrow across east Texas and Louisiana. Texas will see the most impact, with major cities including Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio in the path of the storms.

In Dallas, storms are forecast to start between 3 and 4 p.m. CT, after the eclipse is expected around 1:30 p.m. CT. In Kerrville and Junction, the storms could start between 1 and 2 p.m., but they would likely be isolated in nature and only just getting started by that time.

Eclipse is Texas’ first since 1878

Claire Cardona

DALLAS — For many lifelong Texans, this could be the first total solar eclipse they’ve seen — it’s the first to pass over the state since 1878 .

The 2017 total solar eclipse, the last one visible in the U.S., crossed over an arc of states stretching from Oregon to South Carolina. But this time, parts of Texas (and other states, of course) get a chance to be in the shadow.

Totality starts at 1:27 p.m. local time in Eagle Pass, on the border with Mexico. It is expected to begin in Dallas at 1:40 p.m. and end at 1:44 p.m.

Let’s hope the weather cooperates.

The Ellis County Museum displays newspaper article excerpts and headlines from the region’s last total solar eclipse in 1878 in Waxahachie, Texas on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Mother-daughter eclipse chasers plan to enjoy the event close to home

In 2017, Debra Ross and her daughter, Ella, drove 14 hours from their home in Rochester, New York, to rural Missouri to see the total solar eclipse.

Today, another total solar eclipse is passing right over their hometown.

Ross and her daughter are part of a community of eclipse chasers, people who travel across the world to experience these cosmic events. After today, the duo will have seen two solar eclipses and they plan to chase many more.

Ross said that her experience during the 2017 eclipse changed her life.

“In the minute and half of totality, I was only aware of four bodies in the entire universe,” she told NBC News. “The sun, the moon, the Earth and me. I got what all the hype was about and came out of that completely transformed.”

Ross, who is the co-chair of the American Astronomical Society’s eclipse task force, has been preparing for the eclipse in Rochester, which falls in the path of totality, for years.

“The excitement is absolutely palpable in Rochester,” she said.

Special glasses needed to safely view the eclipse

Glasses made specifically for looking at the sun offer the only safe way to view the eclipse directly.

“Eclipse glasses are very important to prevent photothermal injury to the retina, and not just any old glasses — they have to be eclipse glasses with the ISO 12312-2 filter,” said Dr. Nicole Bajic, a comprehensive ophthalmologist at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute.

The glasses are “thousands of times darker” than sunglasses,  according to NASA .

Without such precautions, watching the eclipse can cause permanent eye damage.

“It’s called solar retinopathy, and it’s damage to very sensitive, intricate cells that make up the retina, which is the lining of the back of the eye, and that’s what transmits light into electrical signals so that we can see what we see,” Bajic said. “And when we have damage from the sun to that tissue, we can get decreased vision and central blind spots in our vision.”
