Limited 6.0L 4x4 2005 Ford Excursion Review

2005 excursion new car test drive, the big rig of suvs., introduction.

In terms of size, the Ford Excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. Supremely stable at speed, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Whether you have a lot of cargo to carry, a bunch of people to transport, a big trailer to pull, or all of the above, the Excursion is ready for whatever you throw its way.  The Excursion seats eight or nine passengers, depending on how it is configured. It can tow up to 11,000 pounds. Options include a powerful gasoline-fueled V10, and a state-of-the-art turbo-diesel V8. While the Excursion is too large for serious off-road driving, its optional four-wheel-drive and all-terrain tires enable it to handle hilly shale roads, snowy highways, and slippery boat ramps, those places that are accessible in a heavy-duty Ford pickup.  The Excursion is a beast, however, taking up more garage space, parking space, and street space than anything else this side of a dually. It's no minivan. The Excursion best suited for families who tow boats, horses or other heavy trailers. Properly equipped, Excursion is rated to tow up to 11,000 pounds.

For 2004, the Ford Excursion comes primarily in four trim levels: XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer, and Limited. Each is available with rear-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD).  XLS 2WD ($36,585) and XLS 4WD ($39,840) come with a moderate level of standard equipment, including four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), tilt steering wheel, cruise control, a 40/20/40 split front bench seat, a 60/40 split-folding second-row seat, a folding/removable third-row seat, power/heated mirrors, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo, and an overhead console. XLS is visually identified by body-color side moldings, black running boards, and 16-inch chromed steel wheels.  XLT 2WD ($37,575) and XLT 4WD ($40,830) add power adjustable front bucket seats with a floor console, automatic headlamps, and rear-seat audio controls. Recognize an XLT by its platinum-finish body-side cladding and 16-inch aluminum wheels.  Eddie Bauer 2WD ($40,660) and 4WD ($43,760) add power rear quarter windows, Reverse Sensing System, automatic climate control, trip computer, power-adjustable pedals, auto-dimming rearview mirror, two-tone leather seating surfaces and cherry woodgrain interior accents. Arizona Beige front and rear bumpers, grille, body cladding and wheel lips provide exterior identity, along with illuminated running boards.  Limited 2WD ($41,985) and 4WD ($45,085) add a premium stereo with an in-dash six-disc CD changer, heated front seats, memory seats and pedals, climate and audio controls on the steering wheel, premium leather seating surfaces and a HomeLink transmitter. Body cladding and wheel lips revert to body color, but with a chrome insert. Grille and bumpers are body-color, too, for a monochromatic effect.  Three engines are available: a 5.4-liter V8, a 6.8-liter V10, and a 6.0-liter turbocharged diesel V8. The 5.4-liter V8 is standard in XLS, XLT, and 2WD versions of the Eddie Bauer and Limited. The V10 is standard in 4WD Eddie Bauer and Limited models, optional ($585) on other models. The diesel ($4,755-$5,345) is available for all models. All Excursions come with an automatic transmission: a four-speed automatic with the gasoline engines, a five-speed automatic with the diesel.  Many of the deluxe-model luxuries are available as options on even the basic XLS, including the adjustable pedals ($120), and six-disc CD changer ($255). The DVD entertainment system ($1500) is available on all models except the XLS; wireless headphones have been added to the system for 2004.All Excursions come with a seven-wire trailer harness. An optional 4WD Trailer Tow Group ($275) includes manually telescoping trailer mirrors with heated glass, integrated turn signals and clearance lights; plus a rear anti-roll bar. The mirrors are also available by themselves ($220).

The Ford Excursion is big. Based on Ford's Super Duty F-Series pickup trucks, it's more than 7 inches longer than the Chevrolet Suburban.  Excursion's rear cargo doors are split three ways. You can swing the glass hatch up for quick access to gear. Below the hatch is a pair of half-height doors, like Dutch doors. So they can be opened when you've got a trailer attached, and can be swung nearly 180 degrees for easier access. This arrangement also offers much better visibility rearward while driving than the Suburban's full-height split doors yet offers the benefits of split doors.  Ford designed the Class IV receiver hitch, which comes standard, to prevent smaller cars from going underneath the rear bumper, while a specially designed BlockerBeam is designed to accomplish the same goal up front.

The 2004 Excursion comes with a nicely designed interior. The dash is attractive and well designed and all of the controls are easy to find and operate.  The seats are comfortable. It doesn't matter whether you're sitting in the front seats, second row or third row, all of the seats offer generous legroom, headroom and elbow room. Six adults can ride in comfort with 48 cubic feet of cargo space left behind them. For shorter trips, like going to a restaurant, the Excursion can seat eight people, or nine if you opt for the XLS with its front bench seat.  Remove the third-row seat, and the Excursion can easily carry five people and more than 100 cubic feet of gear. Removing the third-row seat is easy: Flip the seatback forward, yank a bar at the foot of the seat and pull the seat toward the rear of the vehicle; it glides along on rollers. The seat weighs 75 pounds, but in short order I pulled it out and threw it into the back of another SUV on a cold Montana morning before driving to a trout stream.  Set up as a two-seater, the Excursion can carry an outlandish amount of cargo. A sheet of plywood slides in easily and lays flat on the floor. Two people could sleep in comfort on the huge, flat cargo area. Believe it or not, we managed to fill an Excursion. We'd just finished a three-day float on Oregon's Deschutes. As planned, the river guide in charge of setting up camp had arrived at our vehicles ahead of us. He quickly stuffed all of the supplies from base camp and enough fishing equipment for eight people inside. When he was done stuffing, only seating for two remained and the rear-view mirror was rendered useless. Granted, he could have packed more efficiently, but he was grateful for such a large storage container. No question, the Excursion can hold a lot of gear.  After reorganizing the equipment and putting some of it into another vehicle, six of us piled into the Excursion and made the long trip back to town. Cruising along steadily with this load, the Excursion demonstrated its virtues of size, stability and power.

Driving Impression

Cruising along in a 2004 Ford Excursion gives you a secure feeling. The optional V10 ($585) is a delightful engine. It produces 310 horsepower and generates a very impressive 425 pounds-feet of torque at 3250 rpm. It can propel the Excursion along the Interstate at high rates of speed. Tell someone you have a V10 and they think you're driving a rocket. But an Excursion 4x4 weighs about 7,200 pounds, so even with the V10, its acceleration at high altitudes seems no better than in an Explorer or Expedition.  Still, our Excursion had no trouble passing other vehicles on two-lane roads. The Excursion is rock solid at 97 mph where a governor keeps you from going any faster. The EPA doesn't even rate trucks this big for fuel economy, but you should expect something in the 12-mpg range. We saw 14 mpg on the highway, but 10 mpg is more likely around town.  Despite its high initial price, about 60 percent of excursion buyers opt for the 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel. This is a state-of-the-art unit, with hydraulic rail direct pilot injection and four valves per cylinder. Ford claims it offers best-in-class power, with 325 horsepower and 560 pounds-feet of torque, the latter at just 2000 rpm. That much torque should certainly be sufficient for pulling stumps out of your yard or pulling heavy trailers up steep ramps. Introduced in mid-2003, this new-generation diesel was designed for less noise, cleaner emissions, and better efficiency than the larger, but less powerful, diesel that it replaced. The diesel gets about 18 mpg, yielding a range of more than 700 miles from its 44-gallon fuel tank.  The five-speed automatic transmission that comes exclusively with the diesel offers a Tow-Haul mode which, when activated, automatically minimizes shifts and maximizes available torque. According to Ford, this can help increase a driver's feeling of control when towing large loads up and down steep grades.  We didn't try the standard 5.4-liter V8, but we suspect it would struggle if you loaded six passengers and luggage and headed for the mountains. With 255 horsepower at 4500 rpm, and 350 pounds-feet of torque at 2500 rpm, the V8 is best suited for the flatlands.  While 2WD Excursions come with Ford's signature Twin I-Beam independent front suspension and coil springs, the 4WD version rides on a solid front axle and leaf springs. But differences in ride and handling between the two are surprisingly subtle. Our test vehicle had the 4WD Trailer Tow Group ($275), which includes a rear anti-roll bar, and it seemed to compensate for some of the weight up front from a handling standpoint. The 4x4 handles well for a big rig, tackling corners with confidence and offering good grip on dirt roads.  At high speeds, the Excursion is stable. Strong crosswinds and an 18-wheeler going in the opposite direction had little effect. However, Excursion does not offer the ride sophistication of the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL 1500 models. The all-terrain tires that are now standard on all 4WD Excursions are good for muddy trails, but the all-season tires that come with 2WD models are smoother and quieter for towing long distances.  Its long wheelbase means the Excursion is not a serious off-road vehicle. But the part-time four-wheel-drive system and 8.1-inch ground clearance should get you up some pretty gnarly dirt roads in nasty weather. Ford's clever vacuum-controlled hub-locking system quickly engages four-wheel drive on the fly by pressing a button. A low-range set of gears is ready whenever you need to tackle steep, slippery terrain. If you do drive off the pavement or on snow-covered roads, you'll want to opt for the limited-slip differential ($250) and the transfer-case skid plate ($100).  Towing, more than anything, is what the Excursion is designed to do. Properly equipped, it can tow trailers up to 11,000 pounds. That's more than enough to pull a hefty boat. All Excursions come ready to tow, with a C.

Ford's gargantuan sport-utility is a stable platform for towing heavy trailers and can at the same time carry a truckload of fishermen. It rides fairly well for a heavy-duty truck and it's luxurious and comfortable. For those who want to tow trailers up to 11,000 pounds, the Excursion is a good alternative to a pickup with a cap. Ford says it will continue to produce the Excursion through the 2005 model year.  The Ford Excursion should not, however, be considered an alternative to a minivan. It's far too thirsty, and its size, weight and design make for poor maneuverability and handling when compared with minivans and light-duty SUVs.

2005 6.0L Excursions...Fuel Mileage?

excursion 6.0 mpg

  • Add to quote

Hey boys and girls...what kind of fuel mileage are y'all getting out of 2005 6.0L Excursions? Thanks!

Hi 'mkb I have an '05 Excursion Eddie Bauer with the 6.0 and 4x4. It hasn't been on any long trips except when I brought it home after taking delivery of it. (I live in Paducah, KY and I bought it in St. Louis, MO.) The overhead showed 21.1 when I got home and I zeroed it and it had a full tank of fuel before I left the dealership. Around town it gets about 16.5 and it is pretty consistent with that figure. Hope this helps. Craig.

I have a 2005 4X2 with 44,000 + miles. I keep track of mileage in an excel spreadsheet and I have gotten 18.35 MPG since new. I had a re-flash done a while back and the mileage has since improved. The last 14,000 miles I have gotten 18.92 MPG combined city and HWY. RoyC

excursion 6.0 mpg

Mine's an '04 (with 285's and no speedo adjust) and I get 18-20 on the HWY. Just did a 650 mile round trip that included some city driving and about half smaller country roads (slow down, speed up, stop etc) and got 18.3. Around town, as in stop and go traffic, 12-15. Mixed is 14-16. Towing 7500# boat is 12-15. There are so many variables also.

[ QUOTE ] There are so many variables also. [/ QUOTE ] 13.5 winter short trips, winter fuel 20 in the flat lands without foot in it Average around town in these hills 15 Traveling running 80 or so 17.5-18 Bruce

Depends on how you drive them and not everyone will get the same. Mine is 14-14.5 in town and 18-19 on the road the way I drive it.

2004 Ford Excursion review: Our expert's take

Vehicle Overview Shoppers looking for the largest sport utility vehicle in any showroom still must turn to Ford. The Excursion measures nearly 19 feet long — that’s 21 inches longer than the company’s full-size Expedition and more than 7 inches longer than its next closest rivals, the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL.

But bigger isn’t necessarily better. Ford has announced that the massive Excursion will likely be dropped during the 2004 model year.

The Excursion comes in XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited trim levels and may be equipped with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. For 2004, an XLS version replaces the XLT Value Edition. A new Eddie Bauer series joined the Excursion lineup for 2003, and a new 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine that generates 325 horsepower and 560 pounds-feet of torque also became available. The diesel engine teams with a five-speed TorqShift automatic transmission. Other power plants offered include 5.4-liter V-8 and 6.8-liter V-10 gasoline engines.

Exterior Traditional and oversized SUV styling cues include four side doors. Ford claims that the Excursion’s back doors are wider than those on the Suburban; this allows easier access to the middle and rear seats. The rear door features a tri-panel arrangement, which has a window on top that flips up and twin Dutch doors below that open to the sides. A BlockerBeam runs across the vehicle below the front bumper to prevent cars from sliding underneath it in the event of a collision.

Steel or aluminum wheels hold 16-inch tires. The Excursion rides a 137.1-inch wheelbase, stretches 226.7 inches long overall and has an 8.1-inch ground clearance. Chrome running boards are optional.

Interior The Excursion has a nine-passenger capacity, plus 48 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seat. The seats of the second-row split bench tip and fold forward to allow easier access to the third row. The rear bench seat is removable and rolls on built-in wheels. Cargo volume grows to 146 cubic feet with the rear seat removed and the middle bench folded; that space can carry a 4-by-8-foot plywood sheet. Wireless headphones are included with an optional DVD entertainment system.

Under the Hood Three engines are available. A 255-hp, 5.4-liter V-8 is standard on rear-drive models, and a 310-hp, 6.8-liter V-10 is standard in four-wheel-drive models and optional in 4x2s. Both of these engines team with a four-speed-automatic transmission. The 325-hp Power Stroke 6.0-liter diesel V-8 mates with a five-speed-automatic transmission. Towing capacity is as high as 11,000 pounds with the V-10 and diesel engines.

Safety Antilock brakes are standard, but side-impact airbags are not available. An optional reverse-sensing system may be installed.

Driving Impressions Drive an Excursion and you’re in a truck, period. Expect the typical engine and transmission drone found in trucks, coupled with ride quality that bears little resemblance to a passenger car. The Power Stroke diesel engine performs admirably, but it enhances the sensation of being in a full-fledged truck. The diesel-powered version manages to climb some steep grades but at a leisurely pace.

It's a Beast From the Past

The Excursion is simply enormous. It's ridiculously large; however, it's unsurpassed for cargo and hauling capacity. The handling is clumsy but you expect that from such a large vehicle. The V10 Triton is smooth and bullet proof, more reliable and much less to maintain than the diesel. It's thirsty, 8 mpg around town and about 11 hwy. The Expedition, which I owned before, is more refined and much easier to drive. It's actually very impressive off road with the right tires. I love the Expo, it's nuts!

Not sure what you mean about an interior swap since the Excursion was discontinued during the 6.0 run. There is no such thing as an 08 Excursion to swap to. Are you just talking a dash swap? Otherwise you look like you have researched it well and have a good list to start with. As far as #11 goes I believe the radiator and trans cooler on the 6.0 is pretty good. Most people don't go away from OEM on that aspect especially if all you are doing is driving it on the highway. Are these going to be towing miles or just family hauling?

No mention of what kind of coolant is in it ....... What SCT upgrades are you referring to? What are fuel/egr probes? 6.4L banjo bolts don't really help anything.

Gotcha on STC fitting and on EGT probe, and fuel pressure sensor/gauge. Ford Gold coolant is bad. It does not hold up to the excessive heat. Some make it work, but it has to be flushed and changed out every 45k miles (max). You will almost certainly keep plugging oil coolers with the Ford Gold (or any GO5 coolant). The coolant that the earlier diesels ran (usually green in color) have to be tested regularly to ensure proper cavitation protection. They do not hold up very well to the higher heat either, but at least the only issue is that they deplete the add-pack more quickly. EC-1 rated ELC coolant is what you want. This is what the Navistar engines run and they do not have the issues with oil coolers like the Ford engines do. I run a heavy tune and have no issue with fuel to the injectors - stock fuel pump and stock fuel lines/fittings. Now if you want to go with bigger injectors, then maybe the 6.4L banjo bolts will offer some help....otherwise, not even 1%.

Welcome to the org! Please don't take this the wrong way as I only want to help. You're kind of going about this all wrong... and Jumping the gun in many ways. The 6.0l can be made to be a reliable vehicle but if you or the previous owner didn't do things right the first time the second owner always pays the price. 1-get a monitor to see what the trucks situation is. Your oil/coolant temps could be very bad negating the "new oil cooler" right off the get go OR they could be fine... 2- You have a lot to learn not being rude but just the facts of 6.0l ownership. You need to research and fully understand what each sensor tells you and what things to watch out for with the IPR, FICM, coolant/oil temps, and more. That way when things go south not IF but WHEN you are not stressed out of your mind and you can formulate a plan to save time, stress and MONEY. 3-Coolant is a double edged sword. If you have ford gold or godforbid regular green you can open a can of worms trying to clean it out, Many myself inlcuded did not flush the system thoroughly enough the first time and even back-flushing the oil cooler wasnt enough. So changing the coolant right away could cost you another oil and egr cooler right off the bat without being prepared. 4-skip the interior swap. its not near as simple as just splicing a few wire connectors. The excursion can't have a true swap anyways because of everything BEHIND the front seats. You would do well to learn, learn, learn and be prepared as you can. 4-skip the regulated return you need to check your fuel pressure first to see if you even have an issue many run larger injectors and tunes with stock fuel system and the stock intake successfully and not hurt performance at all. You don't know if the truck was studded right from the previous owner NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY... Its poped up on her a thousand time over people buy a studded truck only to have issues 6 months later. I don't mean to sucker punch your dreams but its a fact the 6.0l CAN BE A RELIABLE set up but you have to do your research and many thins have to be done right the first time or you're paying for someone else's cheap budget.

I wonder if the oil cooler that the PO installed was even an OEM oil cooler. If they went cheap on it, it could be a big issue. +1 on the above concern over the current state of the oil cooler and the need to do the flush properly if you are going to change coolant types.

Welcome to the Excursion realm...not a single regret for me yet! It can be disheartening reading some of these "hard truth" posts, but you can look at both @JustinOOO9 and @bismic post count and know you are getting THOROUGHLY researched responses. And lucky you for drawing in these 6.0 gurus on your first post! Keep the excitement and just immerse yourself here, that's what I did, and you'll get your rig proper reliable. Just be prepared for a long journey...once you get bit, it just keeps going... My 2 cents would be to check/upgrade the electrical system. I had recycled batteries from previous owner that cost me a FICM and 4 injectors. Upgrading the wiring system is fairly cheap, easy, and gives you great piece of mind ( @TooManyToys has great youtube videos on this). I upgraded the battery cables, ground/frame contacts, and my alternator. Cheers

Thanks all for the feedback so far. First and foremost @JustinOOO9 thank you for being frank. I dont find any of this offensive, I know what I don't know and that's a lot when it comes to 6.0 and the Diesel world in general. im "book smart" on it but know that that can be a far breath from the real world so thank you for your input. @bismic , I didnt realize the coolant world was so vast and will take a look at your recommendations as well as the proper way to flush it if needed. I am out of town so cant check what it has now, but i know the previous owner had it flushed when the EGR, oil cooler was done (line item on the bill). However if its gold and should be changed at 45k miles ill just plan do switch to something recommended and more robust at say 25k . I am a big fan of preventative maintenance and is a cheap way to get some wrenching joy and spot issues. I have a basic monitor in the form of Torque pro on a dedicated tablet on the windshield, it appears to be doing just fine for now as i have no desire to run any tunes until i have lived with the truck for a little. is this acceptable as a monitoring tool? right now i have oil temps, coolant temps, deltas (with alarms), FICUM voltage (with alarms), FICUM sync, fan speed, HPOP, oil pressure, and IPR. i have gotten a basic idea off youtube from people like diesel tech rob. is there another parameter i should add? it sounds like i should look not into preventive upgrades, but to fix as they start to fail is that correct? i have a "slush fund" set aside to cover most surprise issues that may pop up while on the road, i am just aiming to using that money while im in town and not when im trying to get somewhere. i understand that a chain will always have a weakest link im just trying to make that link still really strong. the truck has not been studded and i dont think ill do that until i actually need too or until i have nothing else to do. i have no plans to beat the snot out of this think, although i understand the TTY bolts can lift a head even under stock conditions. the only tune im interested in is a fuel economy one, but again that will wait till ive lived with the truck for awhile. my reason for the fuel return was i read it keeps the rear injectors healthier longer, is that not the case? i know i need to keep fuel pressure high, i was planning to leave most of the system stock and just do the blue spring if its not been done already. also should a start using that stictsion additive? and if so how often? thanks for the help and time to educate me!

You're off to a great start I only have two more suggestions. Firstly if I were in your situation...Skip the ECM tune. Mostly because a "fuel economy" tune will not do squatt just the way the trucks tuning works. You're driving style will have a bigger affect and thats free lol. But the 6.0ls have a SECOND way in the form of tuning that actually will help fuel economy but its 1mpg max in most cases. I have a road trip thats about 980 miles one way that I take 3 times a year and I logged it meticulously to the point i stop at the same gas stations and hotel and near same time of year so its very accurate. I got about .75 to 1mpg boost using the stock ecm tune and the atlas 40 FICM tune. The FICM has the ability to be reprogrammed and is stand alone from the ECM. You do have to watch egts is you plan to tow heavy but thats like 8k/lbs or running a high performance tune. The ficm tune will help A TINY with performance but ironically helps fuel economy and only the 6.0ls have a FICM lol. Look into a ficm tuner as its a built in monitor and ficm tuner all in one. secondly the coolant is simple but i'll break it down even more. 1- the 6.0l came with ford gold premium and can't handle the heat and pressure long term. It forms gell that combined with left over casting sand cloggs the coolant pasages of the oil cooler causing high oil temps and since the egr cooler is down stream the coolant doesn't reach it at full flow and caused ruptures. Some can make the ford gold work with drain and refills at 30-40k average but why waste the money and risk gell? 2- some people thought i'll run the regular green like the 7.3ls just dont do it lol... The green can't handle th heat and pressure but because it also doesn't have the SCA addittive like ford gold it causes cavitation damage. 3- and what 90% of most true 6.0l owners switch to is a red ELC. NOT ALL ELCs are the same though. The three most popular, widely available and correctly is Zerex, Caterpillar, and Rotella. All available at Napa, tractor supply and other auto stores. Autozone and O'riley are a mix and most likley have to order. Stick with those three brands for simplistic ownership. As many Long life (LL and ELC)s are not true ELCs but its stupid lol.

Ok I just bought a 05 Excursion 6.0 4x4 with 35's. I have 23k miles. I am getting 12.3 MPG around twn and 12.4 on the hwy with the cruise set at 75. When I bought it I was hoping to get 15 and 18 on the hwy. I am running b99. I have custom tunes from Innovative, I dont have them in right now cause there is a problem with them sct is working on it. I also have MBPR exhaust i am going to be installing when I have time. So right now I am stock except for the 35's. Any suggestions. owe and even when i had the tune in it made no difference.

is your speedo calibrated for the larger tires? If not your ODO is off and your mileage via the computer or hand calculated is incorrect. Also a key to better fuel economy is keep it under 2k RPM's

yep..you need to get on the highway..find a mile marker and go 10 miles according to mile markers (they are pretty accurate) and then you can see how far off you ODO is per mile..my guess is for every 10 miles your odo shows you have actually driven 11.75-12

I do not..sorry. But this may help you... Tire Dimensions Made Simple - Discount Tire

Nope it only does Aspect Ratio style calc, not inch's. Thanks anyway. Why does the SCT have to be in Revs/mile:doh:

Ok I will try that.. I will say I have a gps and at 70 mph it is off my 4mph. So I was thinking I should add like 5%... still not exactly what I was hoping. I guess when I get my tune back from sct and my exhaust installed I will know better.

I was told a long time ago that GPS can be off by as much as 30%..dont hold me to that..but I swear that was the number..

excursion 6.0 mpg

You know, dealers can recalibrate your odometer. I still would bet you get bad MPG. That Ex does everything wrong. Only consolation is that you can load it down til the kids are hanging out the windows and the dog is tied down on the luggage rack and it won't get much worse.

Innovative is having trouble w/ Excursions...i got tunes from em and still not working. Matt at gearhead worked on my X and there just as good. I got nothin against innovative...i got two other truck w/ their tunes. but go to matt if u want them now.

J HO 22 said: Innovative is having trouble w/ Excursions... Click to expand...

It's the B99. I found a place nearby that sells it and tried some out last week. Been getting about 12.5mpg around town w/ some highway driving. Was getting in the high 15's before adding it. Found a website that says b99 reduced fuel economy by 10%. 2% for b20.

You should definately keep it under 75. Your better off around 68 MPH. I just returned from texas going accross I-10 to 95 north to New england. About 1900 miles total and averaged 21 MPG cruise set at 68 GPS. The speedo said 73. I have stock 31 inch tires also so If I went to a 33 it might get a little better. I did this with an edge juice in stage 5. As long as you use the cruise control then you should be good to go. I dont know how much different the x's are but t hey cant be too far off. even with 35's you should still be able to get 18 on the highway. Just from my experience on this long trip I was able to check between different settings on the edge and I got better mileage with stage 5 which is usually the case with higher tunes.

excursion 6.0 mpg

You need @ add 10% 2 whatever your getting to take in consideration for your tire size

10% what?
