Client platform offers access to BCD applications, peer collaboration, training material and industry information

Utrecht, The Netherlands, September 26, 2019 – Leading global travel management company BCD Travel introduces Connect, a digital engagement platform exclusively for BCD customers, as a continued investment in digital engagement services. Connect provides a community environment that fosters program value and collaboration between BCD and their global customers. In addition to community inspired discussion groups, Connect serves as a single destination for program best practices, product updates and case studies, proprietary research, industry trends, support, account details and more.

“At BCD Travel we do more than manage travel programs. We serve as a trusted advisor to our customers. Connect will give our customers a dynamic digital environment in which to interact with BCD program optimization and technology experts, peers with shared interests, and provide information and guidance on our various products and solutions,” said Yannis Karmis, Senior Vice President of Product Planning and Innovation for BCD Travel. “Just as important, Connect will allow us to hear directly from our customers on a variety of topics that will shape our best practices from technology roadmaps and service models to traveler engagement and program intelligence.”

Corporate travel professionals want to have a pulse on multiple aspects of their program. But with all the new information pouring in daily, it’s a challenge to keep up.

“Both in our professional and personal lives, we use a lot of communication tools. They make it so easy to share documents, ideas, videos, slides and much more,” said Miriam Moscovici, Senior Director, Research and Corporate Innovation at BCD Travel. “Combining this trend with the need of the corporate travel community to constantly stay up-to-date, led us to create Connect as a digital collaboration tool that will simplify the lives of corporate travel professionals.”

Connect is already available to first movers and will be gradually rolled out to all clients in BCD’s wholly owned markets in the next few weeks.

How BCD used an API to pull traveler data from another TMC into its own profile system

April 2, 2024

BCD created a connection between Cvent event management software and Concur expense management to solve a booking issue for client involving group and transient travel.

How BCD used an API to pull traveler data from another TMC into its own profile system

A top global healthcare and pharmaceutical brand works with BCD for Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and group travel . They use a different travel management company (TMC) for transient travelers, or those people who often travel for business meetings or work over short periods. The client faced two challenges:

  • They needed a solution to use Concur for both their group bookings with BCD and transient bookings with the other TMC, without having to manage multiple profiles.
  • They needed online access for third-party meeting planners to book on behalf of HCPs.

BCD consulted the other TMC to determine BCD user rights and settings in Concur, and then got to work devising a connection between event management software Cvent and Concur . Here’s how it works:

  • Once attendees register for a meeting in Cvent, they are redirected to Concur. Traveler profiles – including new entries, updates and deletions – are pulled from the other TMC’s Concur site into BCD’s profile system via Concur’s API.
  • When a traveler receives an invite to a meeting and registers in Cvent, they’re redirected to Concur as a non-profiled guest to book air, car or hotel.
  • Upon submitting their booking, the reservation is sent to BCD to add traveler profile data (such as frequent flyer numbers, cellphone, email, preferred seating and TSA PreCheck ®). The reservation is completed and ticketed by BCD.
  • Finally, the traveler receives an itinerary from BCD with all their preferences included.

This is the first customer using an API with another TMC to extract traveler data into BCD’s profile system.

Tanya Green,Senior Vice President, NORAM Operations at BCD Travel

“Thanks to our vast, global experience in healthcare and meetings and events , we understand the importance of a positive experience for employees and HCPs traveling for events. Our innovative solution and planning expertise go beyond fulfillment to further enhance our customer’s travel program,” said Tanya Green, Senior Vice President, NORAM Operations at BCD Travel.

For the second challenge, BCD needed to find a way to allow third-party agencies to book HCP travel directly online. To accomplish this, BCD created an access portal that allows meeting planners to log in and directly book HCP travel using a guest booking in Concur.

Within eight weeks, BCD implemented the two configurations for group bookings through the Cvent integration into Concur and HCP bookings through online access for third-party meeting planners.

Jenna Baker, Vice President, Account management at BCD Meetings & Events

The client reported the below results:

  • Improved traveler experiences
  • 24/7 booking access for users
  • Money saved on transaction costs
  • Reduced burden on BCD’s agent desk for HCP and group bookings

“BCD Travel displayed innovation at its finest. Our shared customer had a very challenging ask, but the experts were able to tackle the problem and find a solution. I’m thrilled to work with such smart people every day to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations,” said Jenna Baker, Vice President, Account management at BCD Meetings & Events.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.
