The sadya, an integral part of Kerala’s culture, is a feast that is served on a plantain leaf and eaten with hand with an amazing variety of vegetarian dishes. The Sadya is served mostly during marriages and festivals. The preparation of the dishes and the order in which they are served is of importance. Usually the Sadya is rounded off with different varieties of Payasams, which are sweet desserts.

Karimeen Pollichathu/Fry

Karimeen Pollichathu is one of Kerala’s traditional delicacies. Karimeen or Pearl spot fish is found very common in Kerala backwaters.

Chicken Curry

Chicken curry or curry chicken is a dish originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is common in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Great Britain, and the Caribbean. A typical curry from the Indian subcontinent consists of chicken stewed in an onion- and tomato-based sauce, flavoured with ginger, garlic, tomato puree, chilli peppers and a variety of spices, often including turmeric, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and cardamom. Outside of South Asia, chicken curry is often made with a pre-made spice mixture known as curry powder.

Prawns Roast

Here goes yet another easy nadan prawn-chemmeen fry. Fresh river fish are in abundance in these waters. The spiciness of chillies, the sweetness of onions and the sourness of Kodampuli combine beautifully with prawns to create a delectable dish. What to Expect

We will pick you up from anywhere in Kochi and we will drive to Alleppey or Kumarakom as per your booking. Pick up from outskirts of cochin may charge additional. Our driver will pick you up by private A/C car and from there you will be driven to Kumarakom or Alleppey where you will check in to the Kerala houseboat .  Enjoy  a tender coconut welcome drink as the crew get ready for the cruise. Set out on an enchanting overnight backwater cruise in traditional Kerala style “Kettuvallam” Houseboat. While cruising in this floating vessel, let your eyes enjoy the scenes of the Kerala countryside as you skim past children waving at you, mowed down paddy fields, local inhabitants as they make coir products, rustic homes, ferry transporting fish and coconut and swaying coconut palms.

The food was just ok and the bathroom shower needed some fixing. Air conditioning was excellent. The service was the best part of this trip. We had a fellow named Sebastian on boat #9 who took excellent care of us. We did have the whole boat to ourselves but it’s not worth paying $200 each person for for one night. We sat at the front of the boat and felt like VIPs as we watched the scenery go by while our fantastic crew attended to our every need. The meals on board were excellent. Our bedroom was cool at night. They stopped at Champakulam, a small town on the river,where we could shop for the usual tourist items. But the real attraction of that town was the St Mary's Basilica just beyond the tourist shops. Founded in the 400's, it's gorgeous inside, with painted walls and ceiling. Overall we had a wonderful time and felt like we really got to see Kerala We had one traumatic thing happen at the end of our trip. After we got off the houseboat, we had to take a water taxi to get to the dock where the cars were parked. Our luggage was on top of the taxi along with the garbage from our trip. The crew was friendly and helpful. A nice lunch was prepared by the crew, however we were hoping to have more seafood. It was mainly vegetarian dishes with one small fish served per person. We departed from the shore at noon which is the hottest time of day so it was a bit uncomfortable. Would be better to go closer to the sunset. Our guide answered questions and pointed out some birds and trees. Our teens fell asleep but didn’t hate it. We stopped at a village home where a woman demonstrated rope making and weaving with coconut leaves. They sold us some banana chips and water at this location. It isn't anywhere near as good as Kashima The house boat we went on was only 2 bedrooms but the night stayover was just relaxing. The river scenery was great and the food was delicious. All hotels were very good, comfortable with great breakfast. Very good scenic view at Munnar . In Thekkady the location was nearby sightseeing places . Houseboat experience was amazing, food was homely as we preferred only veg . I wish there was upper deck for balcony view. Travels worked with me for customized itinerary and also checked daily . Driver wasn't following our itinerary at Kochi and Munnar and was not cooperative , but after repetitive complaints to Travels then it was fixed.. After about 2 hours the whole thing became an ordeal, the boat was tied to the back side of a building with extremely dilapidated grounds. Garbage all around. Stayed stuck. Arun presented options based on our specifications and we experienced seamless transitions from various hotels and organized activities. The hotels chosen for us in Kumarakom, Thekkady and Munnar satisfied and some exceeded our expectations. The houseboat in Alleppey was comfortable, spacious and clean. The food prepared by Nitin was very delicious and plentiful. The boat docked for the night in a very serene and beautiful area. Sreekumar met with us after our houseboat stay. He's very personable and takes pride in the service that he provides. The car provided for us was in excellent condition. Our drivers in Kerala, Shainu and Sonu, were courteous and willing to make unscheduled stops and special requests were accommodated. Our driver in Chennai, Mani, was also courteous and patiently drove us from Chennai airport to Mahabalipuram, to Pondicherry, onwards to Thanjavur and back to Chennai. All hotels were top quality, comfortable and in beautiful settings. Mani went above and beyond to fine tune our tour based on unexpected changes. Our driver, Jaison was very efficient and pleasant with good English. There were four of us on the trip (2 couples), the vehicle was very spacious (what we call in the UK a minivan. Each hotel and boat booked by Srees Tours was up to expectation, each being comfortable and clean. Some highlights of the trip included a sunrise hike in the hills of Munnar to experience the stunning sunrise (tip: take a head torch as the trip starts before dawn). The sun rise spot was beautiful The views were amazing of the valley, mountains and tea plantation Vinu was even willing to take us further along the ridge if we had wanted. We stayed in Kochi, Munnar and Thekkady before spending two nights on a boat cruising the backwaters. After the tour we spent a further four nights by the beach in Varkala. Everything went well. The hotels were of a good standard and the various visits were all well planned. Our driver Jaison was always helpful and punctual. A particular highlight was the sunrise hike at Munnar where our guide Vinoo was excellent. All four of us are in our seventies and Vinoo took good care of us. Even though the first part of the walk is, of course, in the dark, we always felt safe. The backwater cruise was also very enjoyable and we were pleased that we had booked two nights so that we could spend a full day relaxing on board. All in all, this tour is highly recommended. Getting up at 5 to meet our guide Vinoo in the dark and head up into the hills was worth every moment! We reached the top in time to watch the dawn over the hills and tea plantations, it was spectacular. Vinoo was a brilliant guide and so well informed about the plantations and the industry.
