Joey Fatone and AJ McLean are crossing over. The *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys members announced on Tuesday (Jan. 9) that they are hitting the road together in March for an eight-date joint tour they’ve dubbed A Legendary Night.

In a post announcing the one-of-a-kind outing, Fatone wrote, “This is going to be fun!!!! @aj_mclean my dude … here we go!!!!,” with the BSB singer responding, “LEGENDARY [sign of the horns emoji].

Trending on Billboard

According to a release from promoter Live Nation, the tour will find the old friends teaming up to perform choreo, their beloved 1990s and early 2000s hits accompanied by a seven-piece band and “intimate conversations of never-before-told stories from their time on the road.” The singers, both 46, booked the tour after performing together at a gig dubbed “Joey Fatone & Friends — Welcome to Tampa 90s Party” in September; they also previously shared the stage in 2021 during Fatone’s “The AFTR PRTY” Las Vegas residency, which featured the *NSYNC member performing with McLean, Wanya Morris (Boyz II Men) and McLean’s BSB bandmate, Nick Carter.

In an Instagram Live chat hyping the tour on Tuesday, Fatone promised fans that the new dates will be a “crazy” twist on the previous team-ups, with plenty of songs from both men’s groups, as well as some tracks “that never really hit on albums or records” and some throwback 90s tracks. The show will also include a “wheel of songs” segment in which they’ll spin and sing different tracks ecah night. “Obviously a blast a lot of fun,” Fatone promised.

“You guys are in for one hell of a show,” McLean added, noting that fans will know “every song,” while teasing that he will also be performing a couple of his new tracks.

Joey Fatone and AJ McLean Are Crossing the Boy-Band Streams on a Joint Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

At the turn of the millennium, the battle lines in the boy-band wars were fairly clear. You were either on Team Backstreet Boys or Team ‘NSync. Some fans took a Switzerland-like stance and professed equal love for both groups, but they were mostly full of shit. Everyone had a favorite.

The cold war turned hot when ‘NSync’s Chris Kirkpatrick and the Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean dated the same woman a couple of years apart. “I wanted to punch AJ’s lights out for a little while,” Kirkpatrick said years later. “I guess he was talking smack to her about me, so I confronted him on it and wanted to kick his ass.”

This year, Backstreet Boys are off the road, which frees up McLean up for a collaborative tour with ‘NSync’s Joey Fatone that will officially mark the last vestiges of any sense of rivalry between the two groups. They have yet to finalize the set list, but expect them to cross the boy-band streams by playing each other’s songs throughout the evening.

We hopped on a Zoom with McLean and Fatone to hear about the history of their supposed feud, how they came together for this tour, what fans can expect once they take the stage together, and the ultimate dream of an ‘NSync/Backstreet Boys mega tour.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

AJ McLean: The Tupperware, yes. Over off of freakin’ OBT [Orange Blossom Trail].

Joey: I knew them before Brian [Littrell] and Kevin [Richardson] were in the group. I knew the Backstreet Boys before they were really the Backstreet Boys.

What were your first impressions of them? Joey: “Why is everybody else doing this and I’m not doing that? That’s what I want to do.” I saw New Kids do it back in the day too. “Why am I not doing that?”

Joey: It was a concert special that they were doing with a lot of different artists that were doing performances around Universal. They were doing that a lot.

AJ: We basically said, “We’re tapped out, no, but thank you.” And the fellas [‘NSync] took our slot.

Nick Carter Rape Accuser Blasts His 'Stalling Tactics,' Cites New Allegation

Kelly clarkson enters 'trolls' land with ’nsync cover, lance bass won't let justin timberlake live down 'it's gonna be may' or his blonde hair on tiktok.

AJ: The rest is history. That changed things for them, kind of overnight really.

The boy-band lore is that the Backstreet Boys were initially less than thrilled that this new boy band was suddenly on the scene. Is that true? AJ: No, it’s not “less than thrilled.” Look, there was always healthy competition. Period. But because there was no social media, because we all weren’t hanging out together … back then press was different. It was magazines. There was no online. So the press was basically depicting this theory that we were against each other, and that was never the case. And we never really had an opportunity, either group, to speak on it because everybody’s lives were going full speed. We did multiple shows with these guys. We did the Radio Music Awards, Billboard Awards.

Joey, is that how you saw it? Joey: Yeah. A few of us always would talk and say hi to each other, but they always kind of … kept us away just to make it a competition to make us do better. We were like, “What could we do just to be above everybody?” It wasn’t like, “Oh, we need to beat them. We need to be better than them.” It was more like, “No, man, let’s try to do what we’re going to do, and we just want to be number one.” But when you get older, you start to realize, “That’s not even the main purpose of anything because if we all are able to go on the same thing, who cares if we’re number one or number two?”

Joey: When we finally got together, it was always like, “Do we have any animosity?” It’s like, “No.” They just kept us away from each other because of what was going on with the whole Lou thing, becoming a sixth member. They didn’t want us to talk to each other about what was going on behind the scenes with Pearlman.

You guys both worked with Max Martin. Did you ever hear a song he gave the other group and think, “Damn, I wish we had that one?” Joey: Well, you’ve heard an ‘NSync song, you’ve heard a Backstreet song, you’ve probably heard a Britney song. You’ve probably heard an Usher song. You’ve probably heard a Katy Perry song, a Celine Dion. There’s a lot of other ones that sound, around that time, very similar because you have “Larger Than Life.” You have “I Want You Back” and you had Britney’s “Oops! … I Did It Again.” And all those sounds and tones are very, very … they’re all Max Martin.

AJ: One of my all-time favorites from those guys is “Digital Get Down.” I just love the lyrics. I love the flow of this song. Who produced that?

Joey: What’s his face … David Nicoll. Do you remember him?

AJ: Yeah! There were songs of theirs that me, personally, I’m like, “Man, that would’ve been a great Backstreet record.” “Pop” was one of them. “Gone” too. It’s funny because “It’s Gotta Be You” and “It’s Gonna Be Me” were both like … You’re just changing one word. “It’s Gonna Be Me” is one of my favorite ‘NSync videos. I thought that was genius with the dolls.

Joey: Thank you, sir.

AJ: It was comparable to “Backstreet’s Back” where we did full makeup. But I really think “It’s Gonna Be Me” was ‘NSync’s “Backstreet’s Back,” video-wise.

Joey: We never had the bodies to do the rain stuff. That didn’t work for us.

AJ: You weren’t missing out on anything. Trust me.

Joey, what were your favorite Backstreet Boys songs? Joey: “Quit Playing Games,” that’s my favorite song. It’s quite possibly my all-time favorite. The first time I heard it, I was like, “That’s a badass song. You sons of bitches, damn it.” And “Larger Than Life” is a great one too. When you take a song like that apart and deconstruct it or just listen to the harmony, you realize it’s just dope. You have got to give credit where it’s due.

AJ: That’s a lot of Joeys.

Joey: It was three Joeys and a Drew. So we wanted to have something like that, but it never took off the ground. I don’t think they understood my vision, but they liked the idea. I started doing this Joey Fatone and Friends show with different artists. The last thing that we came up with was myself, A.J., Wanyá Morris from Boyz II Men, and Nick Carter. It took a lot of convincing, but they were the only guys that went, “Yeah, OK, we’ll do it.”

But now that everybody sees it, they’re like, “Oh, my God, this is the frickin’ greatest thing ever.” I said, “It’d be fun if we sang each other’s song and then either poke fun at each other and then maybe we can do some new material. What about songs that you’ve never sang before and always wanted to sing?” So that’s how that became about. And I started doing shows with Dee Snider and Scott Stapp and all these people. But of course, what really worked was me and AJ.

AJ, how does it feel to sing ‘NSync songs? It’s gotta be weird, like seeing Mick Jagger do “Hey Jude” or something. AJ : Well, I’ll take that compliment. Honestly, it’s really fun. It’s fresh because I have no shame in saying I am an ‘NSync fan. I’m a fan of good music, and they’ve got great songs, and they have an amazing catalog. So to get up there and to sing these songs with a member of that band, it’s just fuckin’ cool.

One of the other things that I love about this show is that we have a live band, so we can change the show from night to night. This show is just ever evolving. We’re going to sing each other’s songs and sing songs of other groups that we’re fans of that take you back, whether it’s Green Day or Nirvana. We just added Lady Gaga to the set. It is like a Vegas revue. It’s got a little bit of everything. It’s got comedy, it’s got heart, it’s got great music. It’s got a lot of great interaction with the audience.

Are you guys doing choreography? AJ: Yeah, there’s one or two songs that they have a staple dance move that the fans kind of want to see, whether it’s “Bye Bye Bye” or it’s “Backstreet’s Back.” So Joe and I will teach each other the moves, and we’ll throw it in there just for one chorus and the crowd goes nuts.

We did a show that was Joey, Nick, and Lance during Pride. Joey and Lance taught Nick and I the choruses to “Bye Bye Bye.” So the four of us did full-on choreography, and the audience went nuts. They were like, “Oh, my God, you guys know the moves?” It’s like, “We’ve known them for years — we’ve just never done them together live in a show.”

A ton of Nineties nostalgia conventions have popped up in recent years. What do you think is driving that? Joey: What goes around comes around in a circle. It sounds funny to say that we’re kind of nostalgia. We are, but we’re not. We’re still working and still doing things, but our songs and our music, you got to be real. It’s over 20 years now, 30 years for some of our songs.

A lot of these women are now in their 30s, 40s. They have children; they want an outlet. They want something to experience. They want to relive their childhood. So this is something almost like giving thanks [to fans] for all the years that you’ve been supportive for us.

What have these conventions been like for you, AJ? AJ: It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever done. We’ve done meet-and-greets and it’s so fast-paced, you don’t really get to spend quality time with your amazing fans. And doing these Cons, you’re going at your own pace. So when you’re at your booth and the fans come up and they get an autograph and they get a photo, you could talk to one girl for 15 minutes if you want to.

You get to hear them tell you these great stories of why they’re fans and how they’re moms now, and they got their kids into it now, this whole new generation. It reminds you why you love what you do, and it just keeps you going.

The usual lifespan of a boy band is five years. The Backstreet Boys are now past 30 years. Have you guys defied gravity to keep this thing going? AJ: It’s a testament to the fans. They have been so loyal, and they have kept by our side through thick and thin. We’ve had inner turmoil. We’ve had deaths in the family. We’ve had rehabs multiple times. We’ve had management dysfunctions and all these things. But we always go back to it’s about the music first, and then it’s about the fans. And for a group like us to be here coming up on 31 years this April, it’s never happened. And I don’t know if it’ll ever happen again.

Joey: The thing that really sets me and AJ apart from everybody else is we are performers. We love to perform onstage. Whatever it is, let’s go for it. Whether it be acting, whether it be singing. So I think that’s kind of why this works as far as us performing onstage.

Joey, when ‘NSync split, you were relatively young. It forced you to go out and really reinvent yourself. Joey: Well, thank God it didn’t force me. I wanted to. It wasn’t like, “Oh damn, I’m out of a job. What have I got to do?” It was more or less, “Holy shit, these doors are opened. Let’s see if I can walk in. I may suck, but let’s find out.”

I always wanted to do Broadway. Right after ‘NSync, I did Rent on Broadway. I did Little Shop of Horrors on Broadway. And then when I did Dancing With the Stars, people saw my personality. People were like, “Oh, he’s not just a guy from ‘NSync. He’s actually a person that actually acts.” It was interesting the path that I had to go through, but it was amazing.

AJ: Joey’s got to fulfill a lot of dreams that have been on my plate since I was six years old. I’m a huge fan. I mean, I grew up in musical theater, so to be able to do Broadway someday is on my bucket list. To do a movie, on my bucket list. Joey’s done three My Big Fat Greek Wedding s.

There are no stadiums big enough for a tour like that. AJ: What a great, almost like send-off moment that would be for everyone’s career. And it’s only for the fans, to say one big giant thank you for years and years of being loyal fans to all of us.

Joey, I know Justin is pretty busy with his own tour this year. But are you hopeful that maybe in 2025, 2026, or whenever, you guys might reunite for a tour? Joey: Anything’s possible. Let’s be honest. I never thought that ‘NSync would get back together and even do a new song. Maybe to do a performance, but never a new song and have something on a Trolls album. It’s pretty crazy. It’s like when someone said, “Oh yeah, you’re on the charts.” I’m like, “Oh yeah, I guess I am.” It’s been a while.

AJ, is there talk of a new Backstreet Boys record? You guys had a legit hit on the last one. AJ: We definitely have a lot of things coming up that are kind of on the QT, but definitely we are not done. We want to go back to Vegas at some point down the road. We would love to go back to do another residency, a little longer. We didn’t even expect the residency that we did to go two years. It was supposed to be nine shows, and it became 81 shows, the fastest-selling residency in Vegas history.

But 2024, we’re all taking a break. We’re doing a couple of one-offs. I just released my first single. I have my first EP coming out shortly, and then there will be even more music from me over the course of the summer and the end of the year, and then eventually touring on my own.

But being able to do my solo stuff in this show with Joey, it’s an honor, it’s a privilege, and I’m very grateful for it because I get to be myself even more so in a show like this. Joey and I are very much paralleled universe. We’re very much similar individuals in many facets of our life, onstage and offstage. We really complement one another. But there is definitely some really big things on the horizon for Backstreet.

Joey: I think Kevin is going to look exactly the same. I think he drank vampire’s blood. He’ll look exactly the same, and have hair.

AJ: I’m very jealous of that, by the way.

Joey: We’re all jealous.

People are never going to stop wanting to hear you guys sing these songs. Joey: I’m going to be 90 in Vegas going [sings “I Want You Back” in an old man’s voice], “You’re the one that I want/You’re the one that I need.”

AJ: You do it until you can’t or you do it until you don’t love it anymore. That’s it. And we will forever love what we do because we bring joy to people that you’ll never know on a personal level necessarily, but for 90 minutes to two hours a night, you get to go on a journey with these amazing fans and let them relive their childhood or inspire them.

So is this tour the final bit of evidence that any Backstreet/’NSync feud, real or imagined, is 100 percent over? Joey: I don’t think there’s been any animosity since 1997. Chris and AJ had a thing, but that was because of a girl.

AJ: We dated the same girl two years apart, and that was it. Now we’re the best of friends. We have so much in common. He’s a dad. I’m a dad. He’s married. We’re boys now.

There’s been a lot of debate over which group was bigger. What’s your take? Joey: I mean, there’s no competition. We are. We’re the biggest group ever.

AJ: Clearly, 30 years says everything. I mean, come on.

Hawk tuah girl has already sold at least $65,000 worth of merch, 'the bear' season 3 is everything you've been waiting for and (maybe too much) more, trump allies urge him not to be a ‘raging asshole’ at debate.

Every year that passes, the demand for an ‘NSync tour just grows. It’ll be such a big deal when it happens. Joey: I don’t know if I want to be there for it. I’m nervous.

AJ McLean and Joey Fatone are going on tour, and yes, they will be singing their groups’ songs

AJ McLean and Joey Fatone announced they are going on a joint 2024 tour.

Everybody, this news is tearin’ up our hearts.

AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys and Joey Fatone from ‘N Sync announced on Jan. 9 — which also happens to be McLean’s birthday — that they are heading on tour together. The two boy banders are teaming up for “A Legendary Night” where they will each perform their respective group’s greatest hits for fans in the U.S. to enjoy.

The singers will be joined by a seven-piece live band for an unforgettable and nostalgic eight-city tour. "Joey Fatone & AJ McLean: A Legendary Night" will kick off in Temecula, California, on Mar. 15 and wrap Mar. 30 in Jacksonville, Florida.

“This is going to be fun!!!!  @aj_mclean  my dude ….here we go!!!!!” Fatone wrote on his Instagram announcing the news, with McLean adding on his profile, “Get ready for a ‘legendary’ show — can’t wait to see you all there!”

Once pinned against each other during their early and height of their careers, BSB and 'N Sync members have reunited and worked together over the last decades.

Backstreet Boys have continuously released albums and toured, even celebrating their 30th anniversary last year. However, ‘ N Sync went on hiatus and released their last song together in 2002.

Last year, the five ‘N Sync members reunited and released their first song in over 20 years, “Better Place,” for the animated movie “Trolls World Tour.”

Fatone told TODAY.com in October that after ‘N Sync’s reunion in 2023, many fellow boy banders reached out to congratulate him and collab.

“They’re all supportive. I had a conversation with Nick Carter (from the Backstreet Boys), actually had a conversation with Nick Lachey (from 98 Degrees),” Fatone said. “Every guy from every group was literally like, ‘Dude!’ They’re so happy, they’re so proud. They’re like, ‘Get the heck out there and do it. We’ve been doing it, and I know that you guys have not. It’s only been a matter of time.’”

And that time has come for Fatone and McLean fans. Find out more about "A Legendary Night" tour and how to get tickets.

The Backstreet Boys are giving people what they want -- and more!

AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson are returning to the stage this holiday season for a new Las Vegas residency, A Very Backstreet Christmas Party . The singers are excited to perform for their dedicated fans, and as they told ET's Lauren Zima, are even open to an ultimate boy band stadium tour with *NSYNC and 98 Degrees.

"Backstreet boys, *NSYNC, 98 degrees stadium tour?" Carter slyly said, with Littrell calling it "the boys of summer."

With Carter and McLean teaming up with *NSYNC's Joey Fatone and Lance Bass for a Pride event last month , 98 Degrees previously told ET that they would like to join in on the fun as well.

"They should get in on it. I mean, why not, they have a legacy as well," replied Richardson. As for the possibility of a joint tour ever happening, BSB quipped that anything is possible.

"There was a certain nostalgic success behind the NKOTBSB tour which was a blast, but that was just the four of us. Now we are back to the original five," McLean explained. "I know fans have been asking for something like this for the longest time. And look, who knows what the future holds. Right now [our] number one priority for us is the Christmas album, the Christmas residency and then, thank you lord, getting back on the DNA world tour next year and getting back to our fans across the world because they've been waiting patiently."

"The boys are back and yeah, who knows what the future holds," he continued, with Littrell adding, "We get to do this for a living. We get to do something that we love and are passionate about…Other than living for our families, we live for our legacy. This is something that will continue on hopefully for another 28 years."

The Backstreet pride is alive and well as there's no stopping the quintet who announced their 12 live holiday shows at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in November and December.

"We wanna be the Rolling Stones of pop music," Richardson expressed. "Look at the Rolling Stones, they're still out there getting it."

Backstreet Boys, Live Nation Las Vegas and Caesars Entertainment will also donate $1 of every ticket purchased to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada (BGCSNV). Throughout their Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life residency, BSB donated $180,000 to the organization.

"We are proud to be able to continue that relationship and to be a part of it and to give back during our residency," Carter stated.

Along with a holiday residency, kicking off November 11 and wrapping December 23, the singers are also working on a Christmas album, which they hope to share with their fans soon. The singers have previously released two holiday singles; "Christmas Time" in 1996 and "Christmas Time Again" in 2012.

"We've wanted to do a Christmas album for a long time and 28 years in we're finally getting around to knocking that off the bucket list," Richardson shared. "And with that, it's been over a year since we've been off the road…We thought this would be a great way for us to reconnect with our fans, as well as perform our brand new Christmas album."

The songs will include new takes on Christmas classics as well as original tunes. "The fact that we're finally getting to do a proper album, not just Christmas singles, it's a joyous thing for us," McLean detailed. "And to share this with our families, and obviously we want to make a record that stands the test of time, that people will be listening to every holiday for eons."

As for what fans can expect from A Very Backstreet Christmas Party , well just that, a party!

"Great girls night out. You've been trapped in a cage for a long time this year, and this is the perfect celebration for you to come," Dorough described the shows.

"You can come and party with the Backstreet Boys Vegas style and listen to some classic Christmas songs and then we are going to sprinkle in a lot of more hits," Carter teased. "I think people coming out of this pandemic, we have all kind of had this dark time so everyone wants to get out and we just want to huddle together and socialize and party. And Vegas is one of the best places to do it."

"this tour gives us the chance to combine the best of both musical worlds.".

bsb and nsync tour

While fans await an announcement of possible Backstreet Boys and NSYNC reunions, members Joey Fatone from NYSNC and AJ McLean from Backstreet Boys have joined forces to create a limited-city tour full of fan-favorite songs and boy band dance moves. The show, dubbed "A Legendary Night" will come to Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on June 28.

The show is part comedy, part music and part conversation with never-before told stories of their time on the road. The two will perform classic hits from both bands backed up by a seven-piece live band.

"I’ve known AJ as long as I’ve known my own band members," Fatone said in a statement. "We’ve worked together in the past on one-off projects here and there but never had the opportunity to create something together. This tour gives us the chance to combine the best of both musical worlds. I hope our fans are ready for a show that'll take them on a journey through the magic of *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and everything-in-between."

Is NSYNC getting back together?

After reuniting at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards to present an award, and recording the song "Better Place" for the "Trolls Band Together" movie sequel, speculation has run rampant that the power boy band could be getting back together.

Backstreet Boys Star Teases Reunion Tour With *NSYNC: 'Absolutely Possible'

By Dani Medina

April 16, 2022

bsb and nsync tour

Could the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC be making a comeback?

Backstreet Boys heartthrob Nick Carter says it's "absolutely possible." In an interview with CNN's Lisa Respers France , the Carter, 42, teased a potential reunion tour between the two boybands — and a third iconic group.

France asked Carter, who just released a new song " Easy " with Jimmie Allen , "Are we ever going to get a combo Backstreet Boys- *NSYNC tour?"

"We did the— it was a New Kids on the Block tour and Backstreet Boys , it was called NKOTBSB and it was such— it was so cool to see the fans out there, how they were getting something that they thought would never happen again. Two generations coming together," Carter said. "So we think that an *NSYNC, Backstreet, maybe Spice Girls combo, like something like that, would just be— it would kind of be like the pinnacle, the cap on such a good time in people's lives and to just bring nostalgia back, you know.

"So is it possible, which is the question? Absolutely possible," he said.

This isn't the first time a boyband reunion has been brought to the table. It's not even the first time this year, let alone this week.

On Tuesday (April 12), three of the five members of *NSYNC — Lance Bass , Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick — had a mini-reunion of their own at Ryan Cabrera 's wedding to WWE star Alexa Bliss . In a video shared to Bass' Instagram , he said this is what happens "a few drinks into the wedding" alongside a video of the boyband members performing their megahit, "Bye Bye Bye."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lance Bass (@lancebass)

Last summer, Backstreet Boys members Nick Carter and AJ McLean teased the possibility of the double-boyband tour, according to People . The Backstreet Boys were gearing up to kick off their "A Very Backstreet Christmas" Las Vegas residency and had also just celebrated Pride with members of *NSYNC .

"I think it would just be good for the nostalgic side of it, for the fans, if we did something like that," Nick Carter said.

"The fans would lose their mind," McLean said.

Are the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC Planning a Stadium Tour Together? Lance Bass Says…

In an exclusive interview with e news, lance bass discussed the possibility of *nsync touring with the backstreet boys hinting, “i love being on that stage.”.

The Backstreet Boys  and *NSYNC  performing together? Well, that would be larger than life!

If you're a fan of '90s music, chances are you grew up begging boy bands to quit playing games with your heart, while also never wanting to say "Bye, Bye, Bye" to your favorites.

So, naturally, as *NSYNC's  Lance Bass  goes back in time to interview his musical peers in the new iHeartRadio podcast Frosted Tips , a common question has come up: Would his band team up with BSB for a concert tour?

"It's fun to think about," Lance told E! News in an exclusive interview. "I would say to fans don't give too much hope into it. It would take a lot to convince some of the guys to do something like that."

Perhaps needing the largest push is Justin Timberlake , who left the band for a solo career in 2002. Noting that "a lot of the guys are very purist and think *NSYNC is only these five guys," Lance said that without Justin, "it just doesn't seem right. A lot of convincing needs to happen in order for that to work. But I mean, never say never. Who knows."

For now, Lance said "there are no talks" happening. Instead, he chooses to focus on all of the fond memories of singing alongside Justin, JC Chasez , Joey Fatone  and Chris Kirkpatrick  at major events like the 2002 Grammys  and the 2001 Super Bowl halftime show .

"Performing live with those guys is the best thing ever," he said. "I love being on that stage. I've always hated being a solo guy."

So, perhaps it's only fitting that Lance asked his husband Michael Turchin to join him on the  Frosted Tips podcast. In addition to interviewing the biggest boy band members, the duo will help listeners navigate the ups and downs of parenting, marriage and everything in between.

"I think it's boring just doing something by yourself," Lance said. "I could never be a solo artist. Joining those four guys on the stage is just my favorite thing in the world. I love that and being able to see the fans and the reaction, it's something you can't describe."

More than 20 years after *NSYNC released their fourth and final studio album, Lance, 43, is thrilled to learn a younger generation is discovering the band's hits through platforms like TikTok . And there's an unexpected benefit to the group having ended things on a high note.

"When people think *NSYNC, they still think of me as like a 22-year-old kid," he joked. "I think we'll forever be young."

Backstreet Boys open to tour with NSYNC but there’s a catch

T he NSYNC reunion has dominated headlines recently, with talk of an upcoming tour gaining momentum. But fans are now speculating whether the Backstreet Boys might also team up with NSYNC.

In a new interview at Los Angeles International Airport, Howie Dorough, a member of the Backstreet Boys, has expressed his excitement about possibly t ouring alongside NSYNC . But he also wants the band to have their own spotlight first. Howie also believes that his fellow Backstreet Boys would share a similar sentiment.

So should a Backstreet Boys/NSYNC tour come to fruition, he suggests that the “Bye Bye Bye” group should take the stage first. Given the substantial excitement surrounding their comeback.

Besides sending fans into a frenzy, this also puts an end to their rumored ‘rivalry.’

In contrast to what some might assume, Backstreet Boys and NSYNC are on good terms. Howie disclosed that many members from both groups are actually close friends. Plus, the notion of a joint tour has been a topic of discussion over the years.

The recent release of a new NSYNC song for Justin Timberlake’s latest ‘Trolls’ movie has ignited a resurgence of interest in the group. Howie stressed the importance of acknowledging NSYNC’s current prominence.

While JC and Lance Bass from NSYNC have left the door open for a potential reunion tour, there are no definite plans in place.

Howie advised fans to exercise patience and not raise their expectations until an official announcement is made. The situation remains a matter of wait-and-see for dedicated fans of both Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.

Backstreet Boy AJ McLean Wants to Be Called a Different Name – Find Out What It Is

The singer, who is currently on tour with *NSYNC's Joey Fatone, says the decision came after a "little self journey"

Alexandra Schonfeld is a features writer at PEOPLE. She has been working at PEOPLE since April 2022. Her work previously appeared in Newsweek .

AJ McLean is starting a new chapter.

The Backstreet Boys singer, 46, has made the decision to step away from his “persona” as “one-fifth of the Backstreet Boys” and lean into his full name of “Alexander James.”

While appearing on an episode of fellow boybander Lance Bass ’ podcast Frosted Tips with Lance Bass , Bass kicked off their conversation — which also featured actor Brian Austin Green — by sharing, “I hear you want to start going by Alex more than AJ.”

“AJ, I’ve now kind of learned is a persona, is a character if you will,” McLean explained before calling himself “one-fifth of the Backstreet Boys.”

Tim Roney/Getty Images

He went on to say that last summer he spent 10 weeks at an intensive outpatient program called The Meadows for “this little self journey.”

“Not so much for my sobriety,” McLean, who has been open about his addiction and sobriety in the past, shared. “But really to kind of get to the roots and clean out the pipes and, you know, deal with some past traumas and whatnot.”

He said during the experience he “learned two very key words”: “boundaries” and “authenticity.”

Though he’s yet to meet her, McLean credited author Brené Brown for “inspiring the sh–- out of me” and said he has her mantra, “braving,” tattooed on his arm.

“Which stands for boundaries, reliability, accountability, fault, integrity, non-judgment and gratitude,” he explained. “So Alexander James is me being my true, authentic self.”

Last year, McLean shared that his daughter had changed her name from Ava to Elliott.

"When my daughter asked to change her name to Elliott, initially, I didn't know if it was a transgender thing, which it is not, but it is a personal choice," McLean told PEOPLE at the time . "And it is her body, it's her name, it's her everything. And she's still Ava. She'll always be Ava to me."

"But at the same time, whatever reasoning it is, that's hers, and I'm going to support it a million percent, my wife will [too]," he added of the now 10-year-old.

McLean is currently on a co-headlining tour with former *NSYNCer Joey Fatone . When announcing the tour , Fatone said the show would take fans “on a journey through the magic of *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and everything-in-between.”

"I’ve known AJ as long as I’ve known my own band members. We’ve worked together in the past on one-off projects here and there but never had the opportunity to create something together,” Fatone said elsewhere in the press release. “This tour gives us the chance to combine the best of both musical worlds.”
