Recent History

French colonialists who took over Vietnam following the Sino-French War of 1884 and 1885 had an influence on it during the 19th century. Parts of Vietnam were included in French Indochina and Cambodia, and Laos which was created in 1887. First, after Vietnamese troops beat French forces in the Indochina War in 1954, the French were finally forced to give up control of the internal independence movements they had long sought to stifle. Vietnam was split up after this conflict, with separate governments in the north (headed by Ho Chi Minh) and the south (led by Ngo Dinh Diem, with American support).

The second Indochina War caused widespread destruction and upheaval for the Vietnamese people, and as a result, a large number of individuals left Vietnam in search of sanctuary in other parts of the world. Vietnam's economy had almost completely collapsed by the 1980s, which prompted additional waves of emigration from Vietnam. Vietnam has lately profited from the free economy that was established in 1986. Vietnam's economy is still growing, with agricultural and manufacturing serving as the foundation and the tour operators also making a contribution. Despite the fact that many Vietnamese people are living in poverty, literacy rates have increased significantly.

Day 03 Hanoi – Halong Bay (165 kms / 04:00 hrs transfer including break time)

• Check out the Hotel.
• Halong bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the must-see attractions located on the Gulf of Tonkin in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. You will travel by road through the Red River Delta to the beautiful Halong Bay with a short break halfway about 20 minutes.
• The scenic drive will pass through rural landscapes before arriving at this World Heritage site.
• You will be welcomed with a welcome drink.
• Later shore excursion to Sung Sot Cave , elevated 25 meters above sea level and one of the biggest, most beautiful caves located in Bo Hon Island, Halong Bay. From the dock below, you must climb 50 stairs to the Cave’s (Grotto) mouth. The Cave is divided into two chambers – the first chamber, known as the “Waiting Room” is adorned by stalagmites and stalactites and lit with multicolored lights and the second chamber is known as the “Serene Castle” which is large and with an extremely high ceiling and has many interesting rock formations.
• Then sail on to Titop Beach and Mountain . Weather permitting, you may wish to partake in a 400 step climb up the mountain to enjoy a picturesque view of Halong Bay whilst viewing the sunset. Titop Island sits at the heart of Halong Bay, just 8 kms to the southeast of Bai Chay Harbor. Titop Island is also known to the locals as “Cemetery Island” is relatively small yet it is regarded as one of the most picturesque islands in the bay. (*Note:Routing in Halong Bay is different between cruises & are subject to weather conditions).

Day 04 Halong Bay - Hanoi (B / L / D)

• Rise early to make the most of Halong Bay’s stunning scenery.
• Visit Hang Luon (Hang Luon), a classic must-visit attraction in Halong Bay. Luon Cave is located on the Bo Hon Island, about 14 km to the south of Bai Chay Tourist Wharf. Hang Luon has the shape of an arc with 60 meters in length and 2.5m – 4m in height depending on the tide. Because of the limited height, the only way to visit Luon Cave is by a small boat or a kayak. You will have some time to indulge in swimming before sailing back to the Harbour.
• Checkout your luggage and then have brunch on board while sailing to the pier.
• Arrive at the pier and we transfer you back to Hanoi.
• Dinner at Khazana Restaurant (or similar) – Authentic Indian Cuisine.

The tour was very enjoyable, except for the planning of the intra-country flights. We took flights late at night get into a hotel in a strange city at one time after 1 AM and then we have to start the tour the very next morning early. Not good planning at all.

10 Days in Vietnam From South to North

We enjoyed the Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An legs. Unfortunately on the day we were to fly to Hanoi my wife had a fall and broke her wrist, resulting in surgery and 3 nights in the Pacific Hospital. Hoi An Express were good in rearranging accommodation and internal flight so we managed to fly home on time. On the accident a contributing factor was the aesthetically pleasing but impractical/ dangerous design of the rooms at Almanity resort. Having tried to put us in a loft room (bed up steep stairs and the single bathroom downstairs. We are 70yo!) our "upgrade" was to a nicer single level room but with the bed on a completely unnecessary 30cm high highly polished and creaky wooden "plinth", off which my wife fell at 4.30 am trying to get to the bathroom. Lovely resort, stupid room design. The hotel in HCMC (Eastin) was very nice but it would be preferable to be closer to District 1 given we selected the 5* upgrade.

Cycling Vietnam: Hoi An package 5 days

We had an excellent biking tour experience in Vietnam. Our guide Mai Thieu was fantastic. He took us all around the Hoi An area, through quiet villages, rice fields, and beautiful countryside. All the journeys were on back roads and quiet paths away from busy streets. Thieu's local knowledge was extensive, and he knew just where to take us for amazing meals and local delicacies. We can't wait to come back for more!

Glimpse Of Vietnam in 7 Days

Well, I have to say that I'm always a little nervous about booking a trip online, but everything worked out perfectly. We were picked up at the airport. The drive was very conformable, it was hot, but the air conditioners in the car were very powerful. Excellent hotels with great breakfasts, and the staff was of the highest caliber. Our guides and our drivers in Vietnam were the best. Wonderful, seamless, and happy experience! The entire trip was great! Special mentions to the beautiful Halong bay and the Cu Chi Tunnels.

The Vietnam weather varies as you go from north to south, from temperature to tropical climate, presenting travel opportunities year-round. The spring months between March and April are the best to visit Vietnam with the weather being pleasant through the day with days of intermittent rainfall. Ahead of booking one of the Vietnam holiday packages you need to figure out the flight connectivity to Vietnam from your city. The other airlines serving the route comprise VietJet, Air India, SpiceJet, GoFirst, IndiGo and Vistara. Q. What is the currency of Vietnam and how easily can I exchange it? A. Vietnam Dong or VND is the official currency of Vietnam. The currency has normal and polymerised paper notes and no coins. The smallest bills comprise VND 1.000, VND 2.000 and VND 5.000. Then there is VND 10.000, VND 20.000, VND 50.000, VND 100.00, VND 200.00 and VND 500.00, with the latter being the upper limit. Is English widely spoken in Vietnam? A. English is widely spoken across all major tourist destinations and important cities in Vietnam, and as a tourist you can easily get by in English.
