While this is not a documentary that focuses on the freedom of VR, it does try to get its users to think outside their own bodies and life experiences to see how other people can be limited in their own freedom. It tells an incredibly important story, which deserves to be heard by those who have now gained a deeper level of freedom through the digital realm.

For those looking for a way to walk around the world, Wander is the app to download. The app's primary function is to allow users to navigate the world similarly to Google Maps' StreetView, allowing them to enter an address and be transported to that spot. This can be a great way to explore new areas or look back on places you used to live.

In addition to immersive imagery, users can use the historical jumping feature to see what different areas looked like over the years. Many famous landmarks even have the ability to be explored from the inside, giving users the feeling that they're really there.

BRINK Traveler

BRINK Traveler gives users the ability to see some of the most amazing places on Earth from the comfort of their own homes. While there are currently only 17 locations for users to visit, the additional features make each one a true travel experience that may push them to travel in real life as well .

Virtual guides can explain the features and history of each spot, and an in-app camera allows users to take all the pictures they would want if they were to visit in person. Another great feature is the ability to travel in multiplayer mode, which lets users meet up with friends from anywhere while getting a remarkable view at the same time.

OtherSight is one of the most interactive travel apps out there because it specifically focused on including usable objects in every location. Currently, users only have the option of going to four different locations, but there's a lot that they can do at each one.

Users can visit churches, streets, and museums and really get a sense of how it feels to be there. The scale, texture, and movement qualities of interactive features are especially well done. While this is a fairly limited app at the moment, the developers are working on new locations, which can provide future explorations.

The Ocean might not be the first place people think of when they try to imagine their travel plans, but it is one of the great untapped resources on Earth. There is far more to be seen and discovered in the Ocean than there is on land, and Ocean Rift gives users the chance to explore that realm.

There are 14 different habitats to explore, which can be used as an educational program or one for relaxation, depending on the settings. The sea creatures are extremely detailed, and users can actually interact with many of them, giving the perspective of a true underwater safari. However, those with a fear of the ocean and its creatures may find some modes a little too realistic for their comfort level.

Blueplanet VR Explore

Blueplanet VR Explore is one of the most expensive travel apps, but that's in part because it is so extensive. The app allows its users to travel to 40 different cultural sites, with some offering the ability to interact with the landscape or even hang glide over it.

One of the best qualities of this app is the spacial breakdown, where users can truly explore the location. It is a physically navigable terrain, which creates a greater level of immersion than standard point-and-click systems. The one downside to the app, beyond its price, is that it takes up a lot of space, requiring a lot of memory and a strong internet signal while downloading.

Alcove is not technically a travel app, but it does offer a number of virtual tour experiences for free. The app itself is a virtual home, where users can download different in-app features depending on their interests. The travel features do include a number of tours on the ground, under the sea, and even in the sky, narrated by some of the most thorough guides available in VR.

The limitation of the app is that each experience is entirely pre-determined. There are no interactive features that would make it more immersive. However, given that it is free and has such incredible visual quality, that might be a sacrifice worth making.

National Geographic Explore VR

National Geographic Explore VR is a highly-interactive app that allows users to take on the role of a National Geographic photographer. They have the ability to travel to Machu Pichu or Antarctica, where they can navigate the landscape and take pictures of the many sights to see.

Users feel the strain of rowing boats and climbing cliffs, which makes for a more immersive experience . Intended as a way to help the average person connect with the environmental crises of our time , these immersive documentaries show the importance of caring for the Earth before the damage is irreversible.

This is distinct from other user-directed travel apps but also provides a sense of depth and significance far beyond what other apps can offer. The 12 Best VR Travel Apps for the Quest [2023 Update]

A lot has happened since 2020 when I first put together a list of my favorite travel games for Oculus Quest . Including the fact that it’s no longer the Oculus Quest, it’s the “Meta Quest” now. And, there’s a whole new headset – the Quest 2 !

I’m absolutely a fan of VR. I think it’s just really cool and a lot of fun. It has plenty of room to grow and improve – for one the whole weight issue with the Quest bugs me to no end, but you can mostly solve it with something like this – but I think the reality of something Ready Player One-ish , is definitely a possibility in the not-too-distant future. I also have a pretty big case of wanderlust and love to get outside and travel whenever I can. That’s been sidelined a little the last couple of years for a few reasons, including Covid. Good times. But VR is here for us in a time of need and gives us the opportunity to travel the world without ever leaving home – or even the couch.

This list of VR apps , games, and experiences are just some of my personal favorites as someone who loves travel and nature. There are also a few Quest experiences on this list that let you travel not only to distant lands but also to distant times. Let me know if you have any favorites from this list!

The Great Outdoors (VR Style)

These are games and apps built for people like me that love the great outdoors . I’ve always really liked camping , hiking , and just being in nature. Sometimes life, or the weather, gets in the way of those outings though. For times like that, you can check out these VR apps that will bring the great outdoors to you so you don’t have to go to it.

1. Nature Treks VR

Made especially for the nature-lovers, this Oculus app takes you on relaxing trips into different outdoor spaces. Meadows, beaches, forests, and even underwater – hang out in beautiful surroundings with local creatures and critters. This app is more than just a pretty view, though. You can interact with the scenes and the animals, including being able to control the weather. It’s also made to be a sort of meditative experience and there’s even a feature to help you focus on your breathing. There are 9 different nature scenes to choose from with unique experiences to be had in each.

All around a really cool VR app to start off this list.

2. National Geographic Explore VR

National Geographic Explore lets you make your way around a couple of the most unique and recognizable areas of the planet – Machu Picchu and Antarctica. Two very different experiences but both are fun and educational.

Personally, I liked the Antarctica experience a little better. There’s just something satisfying about rowing around in the kayak in the middle of that icy landscape. You also get to see some of the local wildlife while you’re on your expedition.

3. The Climb 2

This updated version of The Climb game includes 15 new maps, new challenges, and new gear you can unlock as you progress onward and upward! I’ve mentioned this in the last review I did of travel apps for the Oculus (now Meta Quest) but The Climb is definitely one of those games that could have you feeling a little disoriented. It’s probably worse if you have a fear of heights so I’d opt for sitting down for this game. But that’s just me.

4. BRINK Traveler

Brink has 22 locations to explore in some of the most beautiful natural places on Earth. This is a VR experience for the nature-lovers and outdoor explorers. Use BRINK Traveler to check out some bucket list destinations in a 360-degree view. You can move around in the environment as well.

5. Blueplanet VR Explore

With Blueplanet you can explore over 40 natural and historical sites around the world. The scenes are 360 degrees and there’s an option to hang glide your way through the environments in some of the locations. The scenes look quite realistic most of the time and this app, though relatively pricey in terms of VR apps, is a great way to get to explore many famous locations all over the world without leaving your house.

6. Ecosphere

This VR experience is nature and community-impact oriented. It tells the stories of places and the people who live there. The “episodes” let you explore the beautiful locations and hear from the locals who live there. The stories generally center around places and communities that have been struggling with issues like war or climate change and how those issues are being addressed within the communities.

It’s a great VR app for seeing fascinating areas of the world and hearing about the issues that are affecting those places. The makers of Ecosphere hope that the app becomes a pathway toward awareness for social issues around the globe and they’ve done a really nice job with the Quest project so far!

VR Apps for People with Wanderlust

These Meta Quest apps are for people that have the travel bug and want to see as much of the world as they can, even if it’s in a VR headset sometimes. Check out your next trip location before you go, get inspired to make new travel plans, or just enjoy jumping around the globe in a matter of seconds!

This is probably the quintessential travel app for Quest. It uses Google maps and street view data to let you jump around the world (and time) in VR. Pick a place and you’ll be transported to it, and once you’re there you can move around using arrows on the ground, similar to how you get around in Google Streetview.

Wander also has extra features like educational information about certain locations and the ability to see what some locations looked like at different points in time.

I really liked using Wander to travel back to places I’ve been before just to revisit them and the memories I have at those places. Highly recommend!

This is an interesting app that feels like a mashup between Google Earth and Wander. It feels more like an app or game than just traipsing around in Google Earth for VR (which is a thing but isn’t available for the Quest, just Rift). You get to pick a location anywhere in the world from a table in the middle of your room. It gives you a 3D map of sorts that looks kinda like locations made of legos, but with better graphics. Then you just pick a spot and off you go!

Travel… TO SPACE

Look, I added this to my last list of vr travel apps that I love, and I’m adding it again. I don’t know what it is, guys, but I just can’t get over space travel in VR. Something about it just makes my brain super happy and so I’m going to continue to include space travel apps and videos wherever I can just in case you like them as much as I do. Here are some of my favorite VR experiences for space exploration.

Just a note: some of these are 360 videos, rather than apps or games. You can actually watch them just on youtube and use your mouse to look around, but of course, the experience is way cooler in a VR headset.

9. Take a Virtual Reality tour of six REAL exoplanets

I can’t get over the visuals of this video. It’s just SO pretty and otherworldly. The video narration is also super nice and informative so you learn a little bit on your trip to space. If you like space videos or space travel or follow NASA on Instagram, especially for their space photos ( like I do ), be sure to check this one out in VR.

10. Space Explorers – Travel to a space station!

This gorgeous 360 video series was literally filmed at the ISS (Internation Space Station) and it’s AMAZING. You get to see the inside of the space station and all the weird wires and thingamajigs that line the walls. You get to hear from the crew. And, maybe best of all, you get to go on an actual spacewalk! I know. Amazing.

Note: You might want to download the videos for this experience rather than relying on streaming them to your headset in real time. The better the video quality the more awesome your space exploration will be!

Time Travel with VR

I realize we’re getting less and less conventional with our definition of “travel” here but some of the coolest VR apps I’ve used are in this category. History can seem a little blah – but going to the places where famous historical events took place brings them to life. Well, with VR, you can take that concept and run with it. VR doesn’t just allow you to travel to interesting historical sites, it allows you to be immersed in the history itself.

Seriously if we had this sort of thing in my history classes I would have paid way more attention.

11. Traveling While Black

I’m bringing some of these choices back from my previous list of vr games about travel , but it’s because I really cannot recommend it enough. I didn’t know exactly what to expect when I started this VR experience, but the quality and the way the story was told, jumping from past to present, blew me away.

Traveling While Black is a VR-friendly production about “The Green Book” – you may recognize the name from a movie that came out in 2019 starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen . The actual “green book” was called The Negro Motorist Green Book  or  The Negro Travelers’ Green Book . And it was a real book that helped black travelers figure out where they could stay while traveling in parts of the United States that were often very unsafe for black people.

Not only is this Quest experience a great look into a very real and important part of American history, but it’s just done really, really well.

12. Anne Frank House VR

I’ve been to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, and I thought this Oculus experience was going to be basically a walk-through of that tour, maybe filmed with a 360 camera. I was surprised to find out it’s actually a recreation of how the house was actually set up during WW2 in a 3D render. You get to walk through the space and see how it might have looked and felt to be living in such a small space during the time that Anne and her family were living there.

Whether or not you’ve been to the Anne Frank House I’d highly recommend this walkthrough to anyone with an interest in history. It would be very interesting to do this VR walkthrough and then go back to the actual house and do the walkthrough there to see how it felt in comparison. If you’re visiting Amsterdam anytime soon you might want to make that part of your trip!

Sure, the Quest 2 has been overtaken as best VR headset by the Meta Quest 3 (with Apple Vision Pro in a close second). But it's still an excellent option for getting into VR, and some of these cases do fit the Quest 3 (make sure you check).

Some cases focus on protection and security, while others are created to fit as many accessories as possible. Others are made to be comfortable when bringing your Quest 2 on the go. All of the below cases great cases, but they excel for different reasons.

1. Yinke Hard Case

The Yinke Hard Case is the best Meta Quest 2 case we tested, offering quality construction and good features for a reasonable price. Available in black and gray, it features a circular-oblong design. This was one of the most compact cases we saw, measuring just 10.8 x 8.9 x 6.1 inches, but it still comes with a lens protection pad, two velcro cable ties and a mesh bag for accessories. Plus, it can carry the Elite Strap with or without the Battery. There’s no shoulder strap on this case though, so you need to carry it using the single handle. The Meta Quest controls are held in place using elastic straps, while the main headset is secured via velcro elastic straps.

When we tested this model, we found it very easy to open and close using the surrounding zip, and fairly straightforward to fit the Meta Quest and controls in place as well. However, we did find that the Elite Strap with Battery could only just fit in there, with the battery pressed right up against the zip. The regular Elite Strap would likely fit better. It’s also worth flagging that the controls are tightly fitted together as well, but this does make the most use of the space. In terms of security, the headset shifted slightly with vigorous movement, but the controls were held in place. 

The inside feels soft and the shell is pretty thick and durable. The handle also has a cushioned rubber grip for ease of carrying, and we like that there’s a good range of accessories with it too. It was one of the best when it came to waterproof testing — with only a tiny amount seeping in on one side after being drenched. When you add all this to its lightweight and compact design, as well as the reasonable price, the Yinke Hard Case is our top pick.

2. Procase Hard Travel Case

The Procase Hard Travel Case is the best Meta Quest 2 case if you’re looking for a premium design and a shoulder strap. It comes with a long, rectangular build and is available in gray and black. The interior features a velvet soft lining with indentations for the Meta Quest, controllers and accessories. On the other side, there are two zipped pockets you can use for storing cables. In terms of accessories, you get a mesh bag as well as two velcro cable ties and an adjustable shoulder strap. This case also features a single cushioned handle on one end as well as two zips on the outside for better accessibility. The controls are held in place by two elastic straps, which are secured by velcro.

We immediately loved the feel of the inside of this case. The lining of the other cases felt fairly rough with a scratchy finish, whereas this truly feels soft, and you can hear the difference when you fit your Meta Quest 2. It’s pretty quiet as you slot the headset and controls into the indentations, and on top of feeling nice, the soft finish helps protect the device if it moves around. Because of the indentations, our Quest remained pretty secure, and the elastic strap kept the controllers in place. 

The Procase Hard Travel Case is easy to access because of the two zips, and the fact that each zip has a looped handle makes it all the easier. We also like that you have the option to use the shoulder strap if you choose. This is ideal considering the size is a little larger than most and at 1.7 pounds, it’s not the lightest design. Having said that, it still feels like it has a strong and sturdy build and it managed to remain mostly dry inside after our waterproof testing. It’s not the cheapest design, but you get what you pay for. 

3. Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case

The Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case is the obvious choice for many Quest fans — and there are reasons behind its popularity. At first glance, it has a very smart and sleek design, with a gray felt finish and a capsule-like shape. The single zip also appears hidden under the lid, which gives the top a suspended appearance. There’s a single, soft loop handle on the outside and compartments within for the headset, controllers and cables. This case can fit the Elite Strap with Battery as well for added versatility. However, no accessories are included, which is a bit of a letdown. 

Upon first opening the Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case, we felt like the interior looked less premium than the outside. It’s not particularly soft, with the same material used to line it as the outside, although we did like the flexible rubber walls to separate the compartments. Fitting the headset was simple, even when using the Elite Strap with Battery; however it wasn’t obvious how the controls should sit and there are no straps to hold things in place. This means if the case goes through some turbulence, you can hear things rattling around a bit in there. The overall comfort of carrying the case could be improved as well — while the handle looks attractive, its loop style isn’t as comfortable to carry for long periods as a standard handle. 

However, this case is still compact, lightweight and looks great. It was easily the most attractive of all the cases we tested, and the fact that it can successfully fit the Elite Strap with Battery is a bonus. The design is durable, with a hard shell and no obvious corners which will help with impact. It’s pretty waterproof too, with only a little seeping in where the zip finishes in our tests. The Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case might not be the best case for travel, but it’s certainly a contender for its looks and for those that own an Elite Strap.

4. Linkstyle Hard Travel Case

Upon first looking at the Linkstyle Hard Travel Case, you might see something familiar. It looks pretty identical to our winner, the Yinke Hard Case. However, the Linkestyle model we tested is actually a bit smaller and won’t fit the Elite Strap. Although it should be noted that a model from Linkstyle is available with a larger build much like Yinke’s.

This more compact design is as small as they come, measuring just 10 x 10 x 5 inches. It’s available in gray and black and comes with an internal layout much the same as the Yinke Hard Case. There's a velcro elasticated strap to hold the headset in place as well as two elastic straps for the controllers on the other side. Accessories include a mesh bag and two velcro cable ties. The single handle is cushioned for comfort as well.  

When put to the test, the results for the Linkstyle Hard Travel Case were much the same as the Yinke Hard Case, which isn’t surprising. But there were a few key areas of difference. First, while the Linkestyle case is a little more compact for storage, this does make it tricky to fit any accessories in there using the mesh bag. We could also tell that the shell wasn’t as strong when compared directly to Yinke’s — the front surface in particular flexes with ease. We were also surprised to see this model struggled more in our waterproof tests. Water seeped in quite badly around the sides when drenched.

Otherwise, the Linkstyle Hard Travel Case delivered in most respects and can easily fit the Meta Quest 2. The device shifted in place a little in terms of security, much like the Yinke. But the overall quality is decent for the reasonable price tag — the interior feels soft and it definitely makes the most use of the space. If a compact design means more than anything, then this is the best Meta Quest 2 case for you.

5. Hijiao Hard Travel Case

The Hijiao Hard Travel Case has a similar design to our runner-up, the Procase Hard Travel Case, in terms of shape and internal layout. Although it is a little more compact in size, measuring 16.8 x 13.4 x 4.5 inches. There is a selection of colors to choose from, including black, blue, gray, purple and red with various patterns.

The Hijiao Hard Travel Case features an indented structure inside to fit the Meta Quest 2, controllers and accessories, and there are two zipped pockets on the other side for spare cables. It comes with a nice assortment of accessories as well, including a lens protection pad, one velcro cable tie and an adjustable shoulder strap you can fit on the outside. 

This model is about $15 cheaper than the Procase Hard Travel Case, but you do notice subtle differences in the quality as a result. First, the interior is not soft or sturdy — it feels pretty flimsy and like you could bend it out of place easily. Having said that, the layout still serves its purpose; you can fit the headset in with ease. Plus, this case comes with a buckle on the internal strap to hold the controllers in place, which is a nice upgrade on the velcro we’ve seen in other models. While the headset shifts slightly back and forth, the contents feel otherwise secure in motion. 

On the outside of the Hijiao Hard Travel Case, the main zip feels particularly thick and sturdy. While this makes the design look and feel strong, it does have a tendency to catch when you’re trying to open or close the case. It can also rub against the knuckles when you carry the case via the main handle, which is cushioned using a faux-leather material.

Unfortunately, the shell of this case feels a bit flimsy on the front, and it’s not the most waterproof either with water seeping into the inner fabric via the zip lining after being soaked. But, considering the cheap price, you still get a lot of premium features, including inner pockets, a shoulder strap, a lens protection pad and fitted compartments inside. Plus, no others come in such a selection of colors. That’s why the Hijiao Hard Travel Case makes our list as one of the best Meta Quest 2 cases.

6. Sarlar Fashion Travel Protective Case

The Sarlar Fashion Travel Protective Case is one of the best Meta Quest 2 cases because of the sheer amount of accessories it brings to the table. In addition to the anticipated lens protection pad, shoulder strap and velcro cable tie, you also get some colorful controller grips and a complete VR stand, so you can leave your Meta Quest 2 on display should you choose.

The quality of the case itself left us impressed, too. The interior features a velvet-soft indented lining to fit the console and accessories, similar to the Procase Hard Travel Case. And on the other side, there’s a single large zipped pocket which has a nice mesh finish compared to the cheaper materials we’ve seen. The outside has more of a typical satchel appearance, but the front has raised indentations to give it some character. 

We were impressed by the overall layout of the Sarlar case. Everything on the inside shouted premium, from the soft lining to the mesh pocket, to the buckled elastic strap. The headset and controls fit into place nicely, with or without the Elite Strap attachment, and the buckled strap adds to the security. You can admittedly feel the console shifting slightly in turbulence, but the soft lining really helps to ease this. It’s also a nice touch that the main zip looks to seal shut as you close it. However, it should be noted that this feature does mean the zip takes a bit of force to open and close. The adjustable shoulder strap feels thick and sturdy and the main handle is cushioned with a rubber grip. It’s a medium size at 13 x 9.1 x 5.1 inches but is a little heavy considering this is almost 2 pounds. 

The main reason this case didn’t feature higher on the list is because of its durability, or lack thereof. While the corners seem strong, you can physically squish the sides and front with your bare hands. So if you dropped it, it could potentially dent. It didn’t score top marks on our waterproof test either, as while the inside remained mostly dry, we noticed that water had seeped into the velvet fabric in certain areas. But, if you don’t plan to take your case out in the rain and you don’t tend to drop it, there’s little reason not to invest in this one. The whole package is brilliant for someone who has just purchased the Meta Quest 2.

7. Casematix Hard Case

The Casematix Hard Case is for serious game players who care about security above all. It’s essentially a full-size briefcase measuring 16 x 14 x 6 inches. Unlike any of the other cases we tested, this one features a foam layer inside which you can tear to fit your console and accessories. It’s opened and closed using two latches, and the single, plastic handle has holes for padlocks on each side. The exterior is made from plastic to give it a solid finish, and both the front and back are indented to fit the logo and convey the security of the design.

We were admittedly a little intimidated by this design at first. Knowing that you yourself have to tear the foam is intimidating — if you tear it wrong, there’s no going back. The instructions try to reassure you that you can reuse foam you tear away to pad it out, but I can’t imagine anything more annoying than having to do that each time you fit the console. You have to first draw around the console on the foam, which was actually quite difficult. The pencil doesn’t show up and you can only just see ballpoint pen marks. A permanent marker would definitely work, but I was reluctant to use that around my Meta Quest 2. It was fairly easy to tear the foam, but it was time-consuming — I needed about 20 minutes to do the headset and controls. Thankfully I’d measured it out correctly and everything fit fine. Plus I had room to spare if I wanted to extend the shapes to fit the Elite Strap or add more for accessories. 

Even with violent motions, my console didn’t budge and everything stayed in place, which is what makes the Casematix Hard Case one of the best Meta Quest cases. This combined with the hard exterior and padlock holes, easily makes it the most secure case we’ve seen. The customization of the foam is a great selling point, too, although this design is not without its drawbacks. It’s heavy and bulky, so you won’t want to carry it far. Plus, the solid plastic handle won’t win any awards for comfort either. It’s also not waterproof — after drenching the case, we found the foam was wet underneath and had seeped around the sides. But, it is the best when it comes to security, and if you’re willing to risk tearing the foam yourself, you could land the perfect fit. 

How we tested the best Meta Quest 2 Cases

We called in several Meta Quest 2 Cases of varying sizes and designs to see which could deliver in every respect. First, we looked at how easy the case was to access as well as how intuitive it was to fit the console and controls. If the case claimed it could fit the Elite Strap with Battery, we checked that too. Next, we considered the security of the case by shaking each case and listening out or feeling for movement. Only one case managed to hold the console firmly in place, the Casematix Hard Case. 

After that, we considered the quality of the design and the included accessories, not to mention the overall strength and durability of the case. Finally, we drenched each case in the shower for 10 seconds to see if there were any leaks. The size of the design, comfort when carrying and weight were also assessed.

Octopath Traveler II Side Quests guide: Walkthrough for all Side Stories

Octopath Traveler II is filled with countless side quests . This guide will give you pointers on how to get started and complete all of the Octopath Traveler 2 side quests - which are so voluminous that you can certainly expect this to be a long page! 

Each side quest is listed in this guide, divided up by region. Optional quests & side stories are marked with a yellow star on your map . The very first quest you'll recieve will always occur in your starting character's home region, and always involves retrieving a Traveler's Stolen Bag. This serves as a tutorial, and basically showcases that side quests in Octopath 2 are basically puzzles that require the use of Path Actions to solve. 

If you ever lose count of the amount of side quests there are, or which you've completed, don't forget you can open your menu and check your journal . There, Octopath Traveler 2 handily sorts all of the side stories and quests by region - which is also exactly how we've formatted our guide. What a coincidence! So, here's every quest in the game:

Beastling village.

• Objective : You will need Throne to steal a Beastling Amulet from a young beastling girl in the west side of the village. When you acquire the amulet, give it to the boy to complete the side quest.
• Client: Human Boy
• Reward: Critical Nut, Resistant Nut
• Objective : You will need to get the spicy chicken recipe for the client. This is done by using Osvald's scrutinize on a food vendor in Tropu'hopu: Floating Theatre.
• Client: Cooking Enthusiast
• Reward: 3000 leaves, Gluttonous Glaive

Tropu'hopu

• Objective : You will need find a Pretty Pearl for the NPC. There are several locations to find the pearl, the easiest one is to have Agnea and look for a beastling in the east part of the village and then have Agnea charm her for the pearl. 
• Reward: 15000 Leave, Cupid's Bow, Empowering Lychee (L)
• Objective : This is a really easy request, bring Ochette or Hikari and challenge the fisherman next to him. When you knock him out, the request will be completed.
• Client: Master Fisherman
• Reward: 4800 leaves,   Slippery Nut (M)
• Objective : Head to the Floating Theater. Challenge the Stage Director in combat and win. The event scenes plays differently depending on who's Path Action you use to complete the quest. 
• Client: Stage Director
• Reward: 4500 leaves,   Physical Belt

Nameless Village

• Objective : Bring either Temenos or Agnea to have the Beastling from Nameless village tag along. There is someone who speaks the same gibberish language as him in the western part of the Beastling Village.
• Client: Beastling
• Reward: 10000 leaves,   Stupefying Stone Axe
• Objective : This request will only appear after finishing Temenos' entire story. To complete this chapter you will need to find three things for Shirlutto. You will need a Lute, which can be found from a Merchant in Sai's Pub. Another item is the Paper Play, which is from a nun in the Flamechurch Chapel. The history book is from a merchant in Montwise.
• Client: Shirlutto
• Reward: 10000 leaves,   Bow
• Objective : This request requires completing every character story in the game. You also must complete the starting request with traveler that has his bag stolen at the beginning of the game. Or else the next part of this quest will not appear. Then you will need to complete two more quest,  Procurring Peculiar Tomes and From the Far Reaches of Hell. Both quest are from Montwise.  After completing the two request, you will gain access to the ultimate secret boss of this game. This is found in the island that east of Toto'haha Region that is marked with a ??? name. You will find the gates are unlocked. Go inside to encounter the secret boss of the game. This secret boss is only recommended for end game players with nearly maxed out stats and equipment. Defeating the boss will give you an accessory that disables random enemy encounters in the game.

Winterlands Region Side Story guides

• Objective : Speak to the troubled villager at the Cape Cold's entrance. You will need to find a midwife for him. Travel to Flamechurch and recruit the midwife in the inn. Bring her to the client to complete the request. 
• Client: Flustered Villager
• Reward: 3000 leaves, Nourishing Nut
• Objective : After hearing the story of a robbed pebbler in the starting part of Eastern Cape Cold, use a canoe on the river to find a hidden pathway. There you will discover the Ruffian Hideout. Defeat the gang of ruffians and speak to the peddler to collect your reward.
• Client: Peddler
• Reward: 6000 leaves, Peddler's Feathered Cap

Winterbloom

• Objective : Talk to the troubled woman to start the side quest. There is two methods to complete the quest, first method is to go to Oresrush's weapon shop. There is a miner there with a study pickaxe you can get with a Path Action. Bring the sturdy pickaxe to the woman to complete the side quest.  Another method is to recruit enough people in your party so that you have a team of 8 people and then talk to the woman to complete the quest. This side quest is also part of the Armsmaster questline, and having the rusty weapon will start the Armsmaster questline. 
• Client: Troubled Woman
• Reward: 7000 leaves, Rusty Sword, Revitalizing Jam
• Objective : After aquring the questline, head to the field map in Cape Cold. Look for a retired scholar during day time on the west side of Cape Cold. You will need either Throne or Partitio's field action to get the Silver Quill. Bring it back to the client to complete the quest.  
• Client: Thoughtful Father
• Reward: 300 leaves, Magic Nut(M), Refreshing Jam
• Objective : This quest will only appear after fully completed Castti's entire story. Find Melia and head to the thieves' headquarters in the northside of town. Steal the letter and bring it back to Melia to complete the quest.
• Client: Melia
• Reward: Melia's Amulet
• Objective : When you enter the Stormhail general store, talk to shopkeeper's daughter, you will notice something is amiss. Bring a character like Throne that has a Path Action to knock out the woman beside her. 
• Client: Shopkeeper's Daughter
• Reward: 12000 leaves,   Sharp Nut (L), Slippery Nut (L)
• Objective : This side quest has two different methods to compete it. With different story beats on how you handle it. You can either steal the amulet on her so that she puts her ex behind her. Or you can look for her ex-lover, Eugis in Merry Hills and bring him to her to complete the quest. 
• Client: Dismal Woman
• Reward: 14000 Leaves,   Alluring Ribbon

Sundering Sea Lighthouse Island

• Objective : To start this quest, you will need to get a ship of your own. Travel to the Lighthouse Island which is located in the north center of the world's map. Talk to the Lighthouse Keeper's Wife to get the quest. Then travel to Timberain and look for a NPC named Ruby in the south zone, by the northern part of town by the bridge.
• Client: Lighthouse Keeper's Wife
• Reward: 6600 Leaves,   Jade Dagger

Leaflands Region Side Story guides

• Objective : After picking up the quest from the weaver. Bring Osvald or Castti in your party, then look for the man outside of the village in the east part. Use your Path Action on the man, you will find out it's about a hidden item. With that information, you can find a hidden item in the watermill close by. Head inside and pick up the hidden item, Crop Tapestry Pattern. Bring it to the weaver to complete the request.
• Client: Weaver
• Reward: 3000 leaves, invigorating Nut, Inspiriting Plum (M)
• Objective : Knockout the drunkard in the bar with your Path Action to complete the request.
• Client: Tavern Assistant
• Reward: 4000 leaves, Prosperity Charm
• Objective : After picking up the request, travel to cropdale. Bring a character with a Path Action to inquire information. Then look for the Knowledgeable Villager by the bridge. Inquire information with your Path Action then bring the info to the cilent to complete the quest.
• Client: Considerate Youth
• Reward: 6000 Leaves, Beastly Scarf
• Objective : After picking up the request, bring at least two people that can recruit with their Path Action. Look for the girl's mother in the center of town and recruit her. Then recruit the girl's stepfather in the north part of town. Recruit the two of them and talk to the girl to complete the side quest.
• Client: Brooding Girl
• Reward: 5000 Leaves, Charm of Compassion
• Objective : This request appears after completing Partitio chapter 4. Misha requires you gather some information about Alrond's night activities. Switch to night time and look for a Strolling Townsperson and bribe him with Hikari. You will get information about a man in the brown coat. Then switch to day time and use Osvald or Castti to inquire information on the Eager Townsperson. Bring the information to Misha to complete the request. This will also let you recruit Alrond with a path action. Alrond although not really strong, is one of the game's most exploitable NPCs. Alrond can come and spam EXP buffs from 2 to 100x more experience, this is required if you want to exploit speed run EXP grinding methods.

• Reward: 15000 Leaves, Butler's Tailcoat
• Objective : This request appears after completing Throne's entire story. Travel to Wellgrove and talk to the Elderly Guard just east of the Item Shop. Bring someone that can recruit him with their Path Action like Temenos. Guide him and take the abandoned highway to Lostseed. When you're inside Lostseed, head west and take the stairs until an event occurs to complete the quest.
• Client: Elderly Guard
• Reward: 9000 Leaves, Vengeful Knife
• Objective : There are two possible solutions for this side quest, each leading to different outcomes. First, you can begin by speaking to Tiffany, who can be found in the northern part of Timberain. Listen to her troubles and then make your way to the Montwise Library located in the Crestlands. In the library, find Margello in the northern section and use a Path Action such as Guide to convince him to accompany you. With Margello by your side, return to Tiffany and have him speak to her to successfully finish the quest. Alternatively, you can choose to have either Castti or Oswald gather information from Margello's Aide regarding Margello's personality. Once you have acquired this information, share it with Tiffany, which will also bring the quest to completion. This particular choice will trigger a different outcome compared to the first solution.

• Reward: 15000 Leaves,   Mental Belt
• Objective : After picking up the quest near the courthouse, bring Temenos or Agnea. Then go to the bridge near the inn. Recruit the sickly woman and bring her to Meylan to complete the quest.
• Client: Meylan
• Reward: 11000 Leaves,   Nourishing Nut(L) , Olive of Life(M)
• Objective : This quest will appear after completing Proof of Innocence. Talk to Meylan to pick up the quest. If the quest does not trigger, switch to night time. Go inside the courthouse to gather information. Then bring someone's Path Action to get information. Talk to the Remorseful Old Man just directly south of the courthouse. Use the path action to inquire some information, it will reveal a hidden item by the Inn. Pick up the item and give it to Meylan to complete the quest.
• Reward: 12000 Leaves,   Critical Nut (L)
• Objective : This quest will appear after completing Proof of Guilt. Head inside the courtroom to get information. Then leave town through the east exit, and head to the small lake above, you will see a hidden item around the pier above. Pick up the hidden item which is the murder weapon. Then bring someone who can inquire information with their Path Action. Travel to New Delsta and look for the Dour Elderly Woman, shes in New Delsta Backstreets, who happens to be Meylan's aunt. Inquire information about her with the Path Action and then go to the courthouse with this information to complete the quest.

• Reward: 30000 Leaves,   Fortifying Nut(L), Magic Nut(L)

Wildlands Region Side Story guides

• Objective : After picking up the quest, go to the north side of the town. There is a man guarding a house, use a Path Action that can knock him, and open the treasure to find the stolen goods. Bring it to the Peddler to complete the quest.
• Reward: 3000 Leaves,   Light Nut, Healing Grape (M)
• Objective : To complete this quest, you will need to inquire some information from a list of NPC. This requires Osvald or Castt. Get information on the following people; Ned in the tavern, Harry outside near the inn and Nikki at the inn second floor. Return this information to Joe to complete the quest. 
• Client: Joe
• Reward: 3500 Leaves,   Invigorating Nut

Unfinished Tunnel

• Objective : This quest will automatically start when you enter the Unfinished Tunnel. The Unfinished Tunnel is accessible as soon as you're able to knock out the worker guarding the tunnel. Anyways, to complete the quest simply defeat the boss at the end of the dungeon. 
• Client: Foreman
• Reward: 5000 Leaves,   Resistant Nut (L)

Leave town through the west exit, and look for a set of ladders that lead you below to Ivory Ravine. This is optional dungeon filled with level 50 monsters. The missing girl is located at the end of the dungeon, but you will need to defeat a powerful optional boss before you can get to her. When you can talk to the girl, you will need Agnea to allure her to bring her back to town.

• Objective : This request is only available after beating Ochette's story. You will find Alpione in Gravell. Approach her for an event. Then Bring Oswald or Castti. With that you go to the end of the dungeon and use the Special Bati to fight a secret boss. After defeating it, bring the Delsta Devil to the chef to complete the request.

• Objective : Go inside the house next to the inn. Talk to the wealthy boy couple times. Then bring Temenos to your party and travel to Canalbrine's Chapel. Find the boy's father and guide him. Bring the father to the boy to complete the request.

• Objective : After talking the cilent near the theater. There is two methods to complete this side quest. One method is to bring someone with a Path Action that can knock someone out. The second method is to travel to Crackridge, there is a suspicious merchant that carries a Miracle Stone. Bring someone with a Path Action (Throne, Partitio, Osvald, Agnea)  that can take the item from him and bring it to the client to complete the quest.

You can also buy, steal or take a really nice Shield from Veronica after completing this quest.

• Objective : This request is part of the questline to unlock the ultimate secret boss. You will need to find three items for the tome specialist. Speak to the merchant near the save point, and have Partitio or Throne's path action take the Dispatches from Beastling Island from him. The third item is found by scholar standing outside before the hills to Stormhail Castle. Use the Path Action and take the The Curious Legend of the Great Wall from him. With the three items in hand, travel to Montwise Library, and donate the books to the tome specialist. Come back and talk to her again, you will find the books are stolen and will start the next quest, From the Far Reaches of Hell.

Switch to night time and look for a girl in the second floor and give her the mysterious box to complete the quest.

Challenge the boss when you're alone, this is a level 40 Boss and can be pretty rough without the proper preparation. Defeat the boss and bring the Keepsake Sword to the Young Warrior to complete the quest. You can also steal the Sword from the warrior's possession if you want to use the sword.

If you aim to have the latest VR headset in your entertainment arsenal, the Oculus Quest 2 is the way to go. It’s a direct successor to the popular standalone Quest, and it builds on a number of the best qualities of the original. Here’s everything you need to know about the Oculus Quest 2.

While the new headset looks similar to the Oculus Quest in many ways, the differences certainly offer reasons to consider an upgrade. We’ll touch on everything you could ever wonder about the setup, from controllers to comfort, and much more. Ready to alter your reality? Let’s get started.

The new Oculus Quest 2 is the much-hyped sequel to the original Quest, which launched in May of 2019. Oculus’ Quest 2 launched in October 2020 and sports minor design changes, mainly on the headset itself. For starters, the Quest 2 dons a white finish instead of the black of the Quest.

It’s a fully standalone system, so you can take your games on the go without fear of tangled cables. You can also choose from 64GB and 256GB versions, retailing at $299 and $399 respectively. The updated Quest 2 also packs on the pixels, with a per-eye resolution of 1,832 x 1,920. It rounds out the spec sheet with 6GB of RAM and a 90Hz refresh rate, though it’s set to 72Hz straight from the box.

The boosted resolution and buttery-smooth refresh rate point to one use above all else – games. Of course, it also helps that the Quest 2 will be the go-to platform as many new games launch over the next year. You can dig into the Oculus Store for the best games around, and you should have more than enough storage space on the 64GB model anyway. We’ll jump into games more in a later section, but know that Oculus announced a whole host of titles along with its new headset.

If gaming isn’t your favorite, there’s still plenty of reason to pick up an Oculus Quest 2. After all, travel is still pretty limited right now – thanks, 2020 – so the Quest 2 is your best bet if you want to explore sunken shipwrecks or interact with elephants on an African safari. You can even strap in for a concert or a live comedy show thanks to the Oculus Venues lineup.

Oculus largely kept the same Touch Controllers from the original Quest, though they’re slightly larger around the tracking ring. It may not make a big difference if you have larger hands, but the change could cause problems for small-handed users. Overall, the design and button layout should feel comfortable and familiar.

The Touch Controllers still mirror one another, and the tracking ring still overlaps with your thumb for a smaller overall profile. They also only require one AA battery apiece.

At first glance, the new hotness doesn’t look that much different than the original Quest. One is black, the other white, but there are a number of updates waiting just under the surface. For starters, the new Quest 2 packs a powerful Snapdragon XR2 processor, 90Hz display, and 6GB of RAM. The original Quest, on the other hand, is stuck at 4GB of RAM with a maximum of 128GB of storage.

It doesn’t hurt that the new Quest 2 is more affordable than the original too. It’s lighter, supports just as many games, and allows for up to 256GB of storage. The Quest 2 even jumps from 1,440 x 1,600 pixels per eye up to 1,832 x 1,920. It’s not a clean sweep, however, as the Quest is the only model to pack true blacks thanks to the OLED display. You won’t need a Facebook account to set up your Quest right now, but that is set to change sometime in the future.

Before you do anything else, you’ll need to make sure that you have a Facebook account if you want to use the Oculus Quest 2. It mostly comes down to how you feel about Facebook itself, but you can always make an account just to use the headset. Otherwise, all you have to do is charge the Quest 2, update the firmware, and download the Oculus app.

Once you’re ready to power up your headset, the next step is to map out your play space. You’ll have to redraw your room every time you change spaces, but it’s all to keep you from running into the walls while you play. The Quest 2 features built-in headphones, but you may want to invest in a good pair of your own for better playback.

The best part about a standalone headset is that you don’t need any fancy PC specs or a powerful laptop. As long as you have a phone with enough space for the Oculus app, you should be in business.

Of course, you can, and you’re probably going to want at least a few. Unfortunately, the Quest 2 doesn’t have the best head strap, and it doesn’t do much to counteract the weight of the headset. Therefore, you’ll probably want to invest in either the Quest 2 Elite Strap or the Elite Battery Strap. The Elite Strap adds more support and a bit more weight to the back of your head, and the Elite Battery Strap allows you to stay in the game much longer.

If you’re considering the Quest 2 as a connected headset, you can also grab the USB-C to USB-C Oculus Link Cable, but the company charges $79 for a 16-foot length. In truth, you’re probably much better off grabbing one from Amazon for $20.

Like any good pair of siblings, the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 share the same list of games. All current games will work for both headsets, though they’ll perform a bit better on the newer, more powerful Quest 2. Both the Quest and Quest 2 also support Oculus Link, which allows you to plug them into a gaming PC and dive into PCVR games if you want to.

As for the games themselves, you can pick up everything from classics like Beat Saber to cutting-edge action in The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. Superhot VR and Vader Immortal are two other top picks, and you might want to grab Virtual Desktop if you’re planning to give PCVR a shot.

Can You Take Your Oculus Quest 2 on a Plane? (Explained)

Let’s be honest – plane flights tend to be excruciatingly boring and uncomfortable. All you really want is for the flight to end as quickly as possible so you could arrive at your destination, right?

Could VR and more specifically the Oculus Quest 2 be the savior to entertain you and make the time pass quicker? Is it even allowed on planes?

The short answer to the question is that yes you can bring your Quest 2 on the plane and use the headset during the flight . The TSA regulations also allow you to put the Quest 2 in the checked baggage, even though carry-on luggage is the recommended option (to prevent unintentional activation or damage ) .

In the first part of the article, we are going to look at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rules and regulations in a bit more detail. Later on in the article, you will find specific tips for preparing and using the Quest 2 during your flight .

Getting Quest 2 Through Airport Security (TSA Regulations)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is the preceding agency for the Transport Security Administration (TSA), says the following about packing portable electronic devices containing batteries:

The Quest 2 has a 14 watt-hour lithium-ion battery (see the official product information ) and is classified as a portable electronic device in this context. Based on the official aviation security regulations, you can safely take the Quest 2 one the plane both in the carry-on as well as checked baggage.

So if you know you will be traveling by plane and want to take your headset along, you should have no problems with this whatsoever.

Taking the Quest 2 on Board (Carry-On Baggage)

When you are planning to take your Quest 2 along with you in the carry-on baggage, I recommend you pack the headset in a way that you can quickly access it when needed.

This is because all personal electric devices larger than a mobile phone must be temporarily removed from your bag and placed in a separate plastic tray for X-Ray screening. After you have gone past the security screening, you can place the Quest 2 back in your carry-on bag.

Leaving your Quest 2 in the Checked Baggage

If you are not planning to take the headset with you onboard and want to leave it in your checked baggage instead, you should know that even though it is allowed, the FAA generally advises against this.

Devices containing lithium metal or lithium ion batteries (laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc.) should be carried in carry-on baggage when possible . Truth be told, have you seen the way the airport personnel tends to handle the checked baggage? More times than not the bags are thrown on top of each and you can only dream of any gentle care.

I personally have had my share of bad experiences with items in it the bag, or the bag itself being broken after receiving it from the baggage claim. Do you really want to take the risk with your beloved headset?

If there is no other way and you have to leave your Quest 2 in the checked luggage, make sure that you:

• Pack your headset safely (e.g using the official hard-cover carrying case ). If you don’t have the time or the money to spend on the case, a pretty safe alternative is to wrap the headset and controllers into several layers of bubble wrap.
• Make sure to power off your headset properly before packing it in the bag. Avoid leaving your Quest 2 in sleep mode. You probably don’t want to arrive at your destination with an empty battery and/or risk overheating during the flight itself.

Note! Make sure to pack your headset properly if you put it in your carry-on bag as well! You don’t want to scratch the lenses or damage the headset in any other way, do you?

Lastly, you should know that if you are planning to take a power bank with you, it is mandatory to put it into the carry-on baggage.

• Fully charge your headset . The Quest 2 will typically last about 2-3 hours with a single charge. You can extend this time by disabling Wi-Fi from the settings (to avoid unnecessary network scanning). But do make sure that you fully charge the headset before your flight!
• Check controller batteries! Since the controller batteries don’t run out quite as quickly, you might not even think about changing them before heading off – however, better safe than sorry!
• Extend usage time with a power bank. If you are in for a longer trip, consider getting a power bank to enjoy entertainment for the full duration of the flight. There are also battery packs made specifically for the Quest 2 (designed to fit on the strap of the headset for comfortable use)
• Bring your headphones . It may seem obvious, but please pack your preferred audio device. Just like you don’t want to be listening to that screaming kid, nobody wants to be a part of your exciting VR adventure either. The official Oculus-ready Logitech G333 earphones are a great choice when you are thinking about buying! If you only plan to watch movies (no gaming), you can also use Bluetooth headphones without audio lag.
• Pack your headset properly. Don’t cramp your headset together with a lot of other stuff. Consider getting a travel case and/or lens protector for your Quest 2. A cheap alternative to protect your headset is to use bubble wrap!
• Prepare some movies and/or games . Download media files directly on your headset and test them with a media player beforehand. Install some games that can be played offline and while being seated with limited room for body and hand movement. Disable your Wi-Fi and imitate the “plane scenario” to see if it would actually work out.
• Expect glitches in tracking and detecting your position . If tracking is lost, wait a little for it to recover and don’t quit apps right away. You will also have to recenter the view occasionally (e.g when the plane turns sharply). Consider turning off the guardian from the Developer settings in VR.
• Regular Quest 2 strap is fine! If you have purchased a custom strap for your Quest 2, you should consider that the default strap takes the least space and is probably the most convenient to use on the plane (e.g resting your head on the plane seat).
• Prefer a window seat. Since in VR you are isolated from your surroundings, having a window seat would be the most convenient option. This way you won’t get interrupted when people want to get out of their seat and others won’t have to pat you on the shoulder to get your attention.
• Reduce fogging of the lenses (which tends to happen when you have to use a face mask) by directing the plane ventilator to blow air on your headset.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 ends on May 24, 2024.

If you look at the current Battle Pass, you'll see the message "Chapter 5 - Season 2 until May 24 at 2 AM ET." in the lower left corner. So you have until then to complete all the weekly challenges.

Fortnite Weekly Challenges - Rewards

As mentioned above, completing each weekly challenge awards you a certain amount of XP. Now the XP are nothing special, but they are the means to an end. With the XP you level like in any other game, also in Fortnite.

With each level you receive valuable Battle Stars, which you can use to unlock rewards in your Battle Pass. You can also buy levels with V-Bucks, but we recommend that you save them for a fancy skin and unlock the Battle Pass the traditional way.

How to get past the Taken Anomaly section of The Whisper Exotic quest

The Whisper Exotic Quest is full of brutal jumping sections and deceptive puzzles. The oppressive time limit makes the situation even worse, so let me show you how to get past the Taken Anomaly section of the Whisper Exotic Quest.

How to escape the Taken Anomaly room

If you’ve been staring at the room in the picture above for a while, don’t worry; I did the same. This room is enormous, and there’s no obvious way out. Fortunately, the solution is far simpler than you think. 

Stand in the doorway where you came in, and the exit is immediately beneath you through a small hole in the wall (pictured above).  It’s as easy as that, and the solution is hidden in plain sight the entire time.

Is there anything else in the Taken Anomaly Room?

At first, I thought this room was a trick to waste time on a mission with a strict time limit, but there’s a little more to it.

If you jump down the Chasm in the middle, there’s a shadowed area where hordes of Thralls constantly spawn. There’s likely an Oracle Spawn down here, but I can’t say for sure as they are time-gated. 

On the topic of Oracles, there’s another that’s also time-gated, hidden by a complex jump puzzle.

You can start the puzzle from here (pictured above) and slowly traverse the grassy ledges around the area. 

The final ledge reveals a hidden room. I can’t say that this is an Oracle for sure, but as my reticule goes red and triggers my aim assist, It’s a fair bet that one will appear here in the following weeks.  The Whisper is a fantastic Exotic Quest and probably my favorite one in Destiny 2. There’s a nasty boss at the end of the quest , but he’s much easier if you reach him with plenty of time to spare.

At home in the New York City suburbs, Oscar Sandoval has lots of friends and an active social life. But when it’s time for vacation, he prefers to keep it quiet. Like, literally.

Sandoval began practicing Zen Buddhism a few years back, and has been on silent retreats to Buddhist monasteries around San Francisco and elsewhere. He’d stroll, sit, do some gardening and generally contemplate life for a week. More recently, he’s done solo backpacking trips across Spain.

“The internal experience varies from times of very little thinking to periods of many thoughts or songs playing in my head,” he says. “The utter peace and stillness is impossible to put into words.”

Travel journalist Chloe Berge bemoaned the buzzing interruption of a drone while she was hiking the Faroe Islands’ remote coastline during the pandemic. “The world is getting louder, and it’s increasingly harder to escape the noise, even in nature.”

But it’s worth a try, say the travelers who are seeking relief in silence. Or as close as they can get to it.

From serene nature retreats to silent walking, the quest for quietude has become one of modern travel’s latest trends. Conde Nast Traveler said last month it was “the travel trend we’re most obsessed with this year.”

For many, quiet travel goes beyond escaping the cacophony of everyday life while on vacation. It can be a shift toward introspection; a deeper connection with where we are both literally and figuratively.

You might even feel healthier .

In a study published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry in late 2022, for instance, mindfulness meditation worked as well as a standard drug for treating anxiety.

“Transformative travel’s a trend we’re tracking for growth,” says Alex Hawkins, editor at the trend forecaster and consultancy The Future Laboratory. “It taps into consumers’ desire for self-reflective tourism experiences.”

The “wellness tourism industry,” he says, includes “demand for hyper-personal holidays and health-driven stays.”

PEACEFUL PAMPERING

The company Dark Retreats Oregon offers a five-day “Dark Retreat” in Tidewater, Oregon, as “a great space for self-care” through darkness, digital detox and a healthy diet. Participants can keep the lights off as much as they want during their stay, and can also decide how much they talk to others.

BookRetreats, which urges clients to “Unplug. De-stress. Recharge,” offers silent meditation retreats in Bali, Portugal, Mexico and the Netherlands, and closer to home in North Carolina, Quebec and California.

Finland’s Utula Nature offers a silent stay amidst the pines on Lake Saimaa, about five hours from Helsinki.

SERENE STROLLING

Ditching the phone, zipping your lip, and putting on your comfy hikers; that’s the silent walking trend that’s found thousands of friends on TikTok.

Gordon Hempton is an acoustic ecologist in Washington State also known as The Sound Tracker. He’s spent several decades roaming rainforests, coastlines and deserts looking for interesting and often rare nature sounds — sounds you can’t easily hear when there’s a lot of human-made noise. “I care very deeply about quiet,” he says.

He’s a co-founder of Quiet Parks International, a non-profit created to raise awareness of the benefits for both people and wildlife of less noise. Ecuador’s Zabalo River park was the first to receive quiet park designation – it’s not technically “quiet,” of course: Howler monkeys, birds, insects and the thrum of the river provide a natural soundtrack. But the nearest concentration of human activity is a village of roughly 200 people, about 10 miles away.

There are even a couple of urban areas designated as quiet parks – one just outside the bustling metropolis of Taipei, Taiwan’s capital. Another is in Hampstead Heath, about 30 miles from central London. The grassy, 800-acre park inspired C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia.”

Quiet Parks International offers experiences like forest bathing , where you open your senses to the meditative and relaxing elements of a walk in the woods.

For those who can’t get out to nature, the Quiet Parks website has recordings of wildlife and weather in the rainforest; morning in the West Texas desert; and sounds of day and nightfall in northern Alaska.

LOW-KEY LOST

Black Tomato’s got an interesting proposition for you. The avant-garde travel company offers a trip they call Get Lost. You fill out an extensive questionnaire on what you’re expecting from your escape, but you’ll have no idea where you’re going till they get you there. Environment options are Polar, Desert, Coastal, Jungle or Mountain.

You’re given pre-trip prep advice and navigation instruction, and then, at trip time, all the transfers, gear and mapped-out checkpoints you’ll need. Your progress is monitored by a specialist in the chosen environment and by a local guiding support team. You can bail out at any time.

“We’ve sent clients to Iceland and Alaska,” says Black Tomato’s co-founder Tom Marchant. “We sent one solo traveler to Mongolia.” A woman trekked on her own across Morocco’s Atlas Mountains.

Marchant says there’s the challenge of managing the environment, but “it’s also a time to truly disconnect from daily life in an entirely new way.”

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is about the journey, not the destination. It’s about exploring routes you’ve never taken before, camping in the wilderness, and having an unexpected run in with a Minotaur. Quests objectives are also left intentionally vague, forcing you to puzzle things out and speak to as many people as you can. If you could just easily fast travel to obvious quest markers you could certainly check them off your list more efficiently, but then you’d miss out entirely on the adventure of getting there.

[ Ed. note: This post contains spoilers for the Dragon’s Dogma 2 endgame.]

Then, you beat the game and the credits roll. However, if you don’t like that “ending” you can start the apocalypse instead. The sky turns an ugly crimson; the oceans dry up; the dead rise from their ancient graves. It’s rough out there.

Your goals then become much simpler in this Unmoored World . Just go to four points on the map and do two things:

• Defeat a boss monster
• Help any nearby townsfolk evacuate to a central city

To make this task easier, the game tweaks or outright removes a bunch of its mechanical friction. More fast travel hubs called portcrystals appear on the map, making it much easier to just fast travel to each quest marker. This wouldn’t have mattered much earlier in the game since you need to use up a rare ferrystone each time you fast travel, but now, monsters drop this item regularly. With all the lakes, rivers, and oceans dried up, you aren’t forced to take out-of-the-way bridges to reach your destination, either.

As you rescue each town, you also begin to assemble a central hub town that makes optimizing your gear much easier. All four blacksmith types eventually reside there, along with the duplicator and the Dragonforged. Instead of running all around the map to craft the best weapons, everybody you need is a few efficient steps away. It’s also much easier to get the best enhancement materials since high level monsters start prowling everywhere, especially in the dried up oceans.

I didn’t actually go to the Unmoored World right away. Instead, I started a new game plus after defeating the Dragon so I could experience some of the quests I’d missed from earlier in the game and level up more of my vocations. So after weeks of playing the game and absorbing complaints about its fast travel and “game-breaking” microtransactions , the Unmoored World’s design choices almost felt like a response. Here’s everything you were screaming for: easy fast travel, an efficient hub world, and no-nonsense quest design!

This tracks with the game’s narrative too. You’ve broken all the rules to get to this place, so the game’s rules are broken too. You’ve taken on god(?) and ushered in a new, albeit broken, world where the game doesn’t get in your way of completing your tasks and doing what you want.

But once you finish the simple objectives in front of you and there’s nothing left to do, eating all of this dessert gets boring. You aren’t really seeing the countryside anymore – just blinking from portcrystal to portcrystal. You’ll quickly tire of returning the undead to their graves since they never stop rising from the ground. You can’t even enjoy camping with your pawns anymore because of the aforementioned undead and also because time is itself a crucial resource as you rush to rescue everyone while resting as little as possible. Eventually, the day/night cycle blurs into one unending twilight and you can’t rest at all anymore as time figuratively stops.

You can play this way as long as you’ve got wakestones to heal yourself, farming high level monsters to enhance your gear, but it eventually feels hollow without any of Dragon Dogma’s 2 weird charms . It’s fun to revel in the excesses of the late game but it also puts into sharp relief why the developers made the decisions they did about fast travel and quest design. When you finally tire of this broken but very efficient world, you can end the apocalypse by starting a new game plus, more ready than ever to just enjoy the journey.

If you're searching for the perfect gateway into virtual reality (VR) gaming, then there's no better place to start than the Meta Quest 2. Even though the headset is already a relatively affordable choice, it's now available at even more tempting prices in both the US and UK.

In the US, the 128GB model is available for just $199 (was $249.99) at Amazon which is a saving of just over $50. While it's not quite the lowest-ever price at the retailer, it's just $5.42 shy so still excellent deal.

In the UK, that same headset has sold out at Amazon but is still available for just £199.99 (was £249.99) at Argos. That's a saving of £50 and matching the lowest-ever price we've seen in the Meta Quest 2 in the region, at least if historical Amazon price data is anything to go by.

While it is still compatible with a PC with some fiddling, everything that you need to play great games like Superhot or Sniper Elite VR is included in the box.

Although we're now getting to grips with the Meta Quest 3 , the Meta Quest 2 still has plenty to offer in 2024. It's a fantastic budget alternative to the newer model, offering no shortage of compatible games, apps, and experiences to dive into. Thanks to the arrival of the Meta Quest 3, it's also receiving plenty of fantastic deals like this making it more affordable than ever.

We awarded the headset four and a half out of five stars in our original Meta Quest 2 review , praising its comfortable weight and ease of use. It's not as powerful as some of the high-end headsets out there, but it can still provide incredible levels of immersion. Portcrystals are the most valuable items in Dragon’s Dogma 2 . These portable blue crystals can be placed anywhere on the map and they’re the only method for fast-traveling in the game. By placing a Portcrystal, or using one of the two rare permanent Portcrystal locations, you can instantly portal by spending a Ferrystone. Ferrystones aren’t cheap, but they’re worth it when travel can take so, so long. If you’re looking to grab the maximum amount of Portcrystals you can place anywhere on the map — but seriously, you’ll really need to place one in Bakbattahl and on the Volcanic Island — then here are six ways to get yourself extra Portcrystals.

Portcrystal Locations

There are a maximum of eight Portcrystals you can unlock in-game — without purchasing DLC — two of these are permanent Portcrystal locations, while the other six are items you can place freely. Save them and place them in areas that you’ll return to again and again.

There are permanent Portcrystals in Vernworth and Harve Village . The Vernworth Portcrystal is behind the Pawn Guild, while the Harve Village Portcrystal is near the Old Man’s Shack.

• Portcrystal #1 : Complete the ‘ Feast of Deception ‘ coronation quest in the main story.
• Portcrystal #2 : Complete the ‘Gift of the Bow’ and ‘A Trial of Archery’ quests — find the Elf in the Merchant Quarter of Vernworth to begin these quests.
• Portcrystal #3 : Located at the Forested Griffin’s Nest. This nest is up the hill, on the southwest edge of the Misty Marshes area. If you ride a griffin near Harve, it will take you back to this nest.
• Portcrystal #4 : Solve the Riddle of Madness from the Sphinx. The Sphinx is found at the end of the path from the Abandoned Battleground to Worldsend Cavern. To solve the riddle, show the Sphinx a person. Even a Pawn will do.
• Portcrystal #5 : Solve the Riddle of Conviction by giving the Sphinx a Portcrystal. If you give her a Portcrystal, you’ll find two in the reward chest.
• Portcrystal #6 : Later in the story, you’ll be sent to visit the Dragonforged at the Bay Wayshrine near Bakbattahl. Trade this unique character 20 Wyrmslife Crystals to purchase a Portcrystal.

Wyrmslife Crystals are dropped by Drakes and other draconic creatures. Most Drakes will drop 15 crystals — and you can find a batch of 5 in the Dragonforged’s shrine.

Even if you miss the Riddle of Conviction Portcrystal, you can still acquire five. The only ones you really need to place are at Bakbattahl and Volcanic Island. Bakbattahl is even slightly optional, because you can travel from Vernworth to Bakbattahl with Oxcarts — but they’re pretty likely to get attacked. Whatever you want to do, that still leaves three you can place and move around as you see fit. Even one of these at an important location, like at the Sphinx, will save you so much time and effort.
