Are you looking for fun things to do alone in Dubai? If so, you’ve come to the right place!

If you’re searching for things to do alone in Dubai , you’re not going to be disappointed. This city is perfect for solo travelers.

Not only is Dubai a really safe city, it’s also a fantastic city with loads of options and activities to pick from.

solo travel group dubai

I’ve spent the last 15 years visiting Dubai each year (I have family there, and it feels like a second home!). So I like to think I’m more than qualified to put together a list like this!

In my list of solo activities in Dubai I’ve tried to include as many options as possible, from free things to do, to more ‘splurge-worthy’ ideas. So hopefully you’ll be able to find something perfect.

Right, let’s get into it!

Here are my favorite things for solo travelers in Dubai!

Visit the dubai mall.

First on our list of things to do alone in Dubai, it’s visiting the Dubai Mall. This is one of the best ideas here as there’s so much inside to keep you busy .

Dubai Mall isn’t your average shopping mall, it’s absolutely gigantic and it’s packed full of food courts, restaurants, entertainment and activities.

I know it might sound a bit bizarre putting a shopping mall at the top of our list, but trust me on this one – it’s incredible and one of the must-see sights in the city.

Expect to spend a few hours here (I usually set aside the entire day!).

solo travel group dubai

Watch the Dubai Fountains

The Dubai Fountains are next on my list of things to do alone in Dubai. And they’re certainly a must-see!

The Dubai Fountains are a little bit like the Bellagio Fountains in Dubai, but MUCH bigger! It’s totally free to watch them too – making it a great choice, especially if you’re on a budget.

solo travel group dubai

The Dubai Fountains are located right next to the Dubai Mall, so it’s a great idea to check off these two famous sights together!

Now, bear in mind, that this area can get pretty crowded during the evening shows – so if you’re not a huge fan of crowds, I recommend checking out some of the alternative places to view the Dubai Fountains.

Or, visiting during the daytime and watching the daytime fountain showings instead!

Click here to book special tickets for watching the Dubai Fountain from a traditional Arabic boat!

solo travel group dubai

Eat at Time Out Market Dubai

Next on my list of fun things to do alone in Dubai, it’s eating at Time Out Market Dubai.

This market isn’t too far from the Dubai Mall, and it’s actually a fantastic place to watch the Dubai Fountains from too!

What makes it a great choice for this list? Well, the communal seating and laid-back vibe makes this is a wonderful option for solo diners.

You won’t feel awkward eating alone here – and the vibe is really chilled and relaxed. Oh, and there is so much food and cuisine choice too!

Get the nachos – they’re my favorite!

solo travel group dubai

Visit the top of the Burj Kalifa

Next up on my list of things to do alone in Dubai, it’s heading up to the top of the Burj Kalifa.

If you want to enjoy some beautiful views of the DUbai skyline, and also head to the top of the world’s tallest building – then this is for you!

It’s a great choice for solo travelers – and it’s a wonderful viewpoint to enjoy in Dubai!

Click here to book your tickets to the Burj Kalifa in advance (which I recommend!).

Do a luxury cinema experience.

If you’re looking for things to do solo during the summer heat (when you’ll desperately be looking to escape the sunshine!) then we think this is a great option.

There are several luxury cinema experiences in Dubai , but we recommend the cinemas in the Dubai Mall or the Emirates Mall. I’ve tried both of these experiences and they were great!

Why is this great for solo travelers?

Well, it’s a fantastic choice for things to do alone in Dubai because it’s fun, you won’t feel awkward dining alone (yes the food is part of the experience!) and it’s a great low-key option for days when you want to relax.

solo travel group dubai

Watch ‘La Perle’

My next suggestion for things to do alone in Dubai, is watching the incredible ‘La Perle’ show.

If you’ve every watched a Cirque Du Soleil show in Las Vegas, then you’ll know what to expect at this amazing production.

It’s incredible showmanship, insane creative set-design, and talented performers – all making this show something you’ll ever forget.

What makes this such a great choice for solo travelers? Well, as a solo traveler you’ll usually be able to grab some slightly cheaper single seats!

Take a tour of the Burj al Arab

Next on our list, it’s taking a tour of the Burj Al Arab hotel.

You can read my full review of the Burj Al Arab tour here!

This incredible hotel is one of the most exclusive hotels in the world, and one of the most famous too!

If you want to explore this hotel (without splurging on booking a room) then a great way to see it, is via their official tour. This is genuinely one of my favorite things to do alone in Dubai.

solo travel group dubai

I did this experience earlier in the year, and I can confirm it’s truly incredible and it’s an amazing way to glimpse an insight into such a famous and iconic property.

You’ll see the luxurious royal suites (where literal royalty, and also celebrity royalty like Kim Kardashian and Justin Beiber have stayed) and you’ll get to explore than at your own pace too – soaking in all the details and decor.

Click here for tickets to tour the incredible Burj Al Arab!

solo travel group dubai

Do a desert safari

My next suggestion is a fun day-trip… a desert safari.

This is a classic activity to enjoy in Dubai, and its a great option for solo travelers who want to spend time in a group.

With most tours, you’ll be picked up from your hotel or AirBnB in the morning (which makes it a nice easy choice for things to do alone in Dubai), and transported with a group of other visitors to the desert where you’ll enjoy lots of amazing desert-related activities.

solo travel group dubai

The activities can carry from tour to tour, some offer desert quadbiking, some offer cooking classes, some have desert buffet and henna and belly dancing. For others it might be camel riding!

Regardless of the activity offered, it’s such a great choice for solo adventurers!

Click here to book your tickets to our favorite desert safari!

Skydive over The Palm!

Now, I couldn’t write a list of amazing things to do alone in Dubai without mentioning skydiving!

Skydiving in Dubai is one of the BEST things to do in Dubai, and it’s one of those epic once-in-a-lifetime experiences too, that you won’t be able to stop telling people about.

What makes skydiving in Dubai so special? Well, it’s the views you get on the way down – seeing the skyline and the coastline from above is magical.

Click here to book an epic skydiving experience in Dubai over the Palm!

solo travel group dubai

Visit Dubai Aquarium

Dubai Aquarium is another great choice for amazing things to see and experience in Dubai.

Located in Dubai Mall, this is an incredible indoor aquarium that will keep you entertained for hours!

This place is super educational too, another reason to love it.

Click here to book advance tickets to Dubai Aquarium!

solo travel group dubai

Take an Emirati cooking class

My next suggestion for things to do alone in Dubai, is taking a cooking class and learning some incredible Emirati cooking skills.

This is one of those solo activities in Dubai that is PERFECT for foodies or people looking for something a little less touristy.

This cooking class is really one of a kind, and it’s a perfect way to immerse yourself in some of the local culture and delicious food.

Click here to book this amazing cooking class in Dubai!

Take a stroll around Miracle Garden

If you’re a fan of botanical gardens and exploring beautiful flowers and scenery, then I think you’re going to love Miracle Garden .

It’s a beautiful option and it’s a really peaceful and scenic way to spend a few hours in the city.

Click here to book a 4-hour Miracle Garden tour!

solo travel group dubai

Explore Dubai Marina

Dubai Marina is a must-visit in Dubai, and it’s next on our list of fun things to do alone in Dubai.

Now, you can visit Dubai Marina anytime of day, but we recommend heading there late-afternoon, and stopping until the evening when the sun has set.

That way, you’ll get to see this amazing cityscape in day and night! The best of both worlds!

solo travel group dubai

How would I spend my time in Dubai Marina? Well, I’d get my taxi to drop me off at the Marina Mall (just to make things easy!) and then take a stroll around the marina from there.

You’ll find plenty of restaurants dotted around the marina walkways, and cheaper food choices in the mall too!

solo travel group dubai

Take a day-trip to Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is the neighboring Emirate to Dubai, and it’s certainly worth seeing, if you haven’t been there yet.

Taking a day trip to Abu Dhabi is my next suggestion for things to do alone in Dubai. Your tour group will pick you up from your hotel, and then take you to all the sights in Abu Dhabi worth seeing.

It’s a great way to see more of the UAE, and seeing it with a group is a really nice way to socialize when you’re a solo traveler.

Abu Dhabi is much quieter than Dubai and the vibe is much different, so we really recommend checking it out!

Click here to book our favorite Abu Dhabi day tour!

solo travel group dubai

Take a speedboat tour

Have you ever taken a speedboat tour? If not, then maybe now is the time!

Taking a speedboat tour of the Dubai coastline is next on my list. This is such a once-in-a-lifetime experience and ideal for solo travelers!

The Dubai coastline is really phenomenal from the ocean, and the thrills of the speedboat add to the experience too! Making this one of the top things to do alone in Dubai!

Click here to book tickets for the speedboat tour of Dubai’s coastline!

Enjoy some rooftop cocktails

In many cities you might not feel safe or confident enough to go for rooftop cocktails alone, but as a solo female I’ve found Dubai feels super safe and it’s one of the safest and most welcoming cities for solo women (and men) traveling alone.

The Address Hotel in Dubai Marina has a wonderful rooftop bar that overlooks their infinity pool in the Dubai Marina, and it’s one of my favorite places for solo cocktails.

The vibe is friendly and relaxed, and it’s a lovely place to soak in the atmosphere of Dubai Marina. Overall, this is a great choice for things to do alone in Dubai!

solo travel group dubai

Visit The Green Planet (Indoor Rainforest)

Next on my list of fun solo ideas in Dubai, it’s the Green Planet.

The Green Planet is an indoor attraction, and it’s an indoor rainforest housing lots of birds and wildlife and plant life.

If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, and you want a more chilled choice, then this is a fantastic place to visit.

it’s a great pick for things to do alone in Dubai. Click here to book tickets!

solo travel group dubai

Take a tour of Dubai’s old town

Dubai isn’t all glitzy skyscrapers… and my next suggestion is to take a group tour of the old town district.

This is a part of Dubai that I really recommend seeing with a tour guide in a group. Because you’ll be taken to all the right places and you’ll see all the best bits.

Generally this part of the city feels a bit more chaotic and busy than other parts – so I think it’s best to go with a group and tour guide – especially if you aren’t used to that kind of environment.

Click here to book your tickets!

Book yourself a pool day

Next on my list of things to do alone in Dubai, it’s booking yourself a pool day!

Maybe you’re hotel already has a swimming pool, but maybe not! If not, or if you want to experience some of the other hotel pools in the city, then you can book a pool pass.

Most 5* hotels in the city, offer day passes for their pool areas, usually costing around $100 – $200 for the day. My favorite pool in Dubai is at The Address Downtown .

It’s a really fun way of seeing other hotels in the city, especially the luxurious ones!

solo travel group dubai

Have afternoon tea at The Atlantis

Next on my list, it’s having a fancy afternoon tea at The Atlantis Hotel.

Atlantis is one of the most iconic and famous hotels in Dubai (located at the very top of The Palm).

If you want to treat yourself to a fancy meal one day during your solo trip, we really recommend booking afternoon tea at the Palm!

Click here to book afternoon tea at The Atlantis Hotel!

solo travel group dubai

Visit one of the city’s amazing spas

Next on my list of things to do alone in Dubai, it’s taking a beautiful spa day.

As you’d expect, with all the luxurious hotels in Dubai, there are also plenty of luxurious spa options too.

Most hotels offer day-spa options or spa-treatments, so it’s simply a case of calling up and booking with them!

It’s a great choice for solo travelers, and it’s also a great way to kick any jetlag to the curb!

Click here to book spa treatments at the beautiful Antara Spa on the Palm!

solo travel group dubai

Visit ‘The View at the Palm’

My next suggestion for things to do in Dubai alone, is an amazing observation deck located in the heart of Dubai’s palm neighborhood.

The View at the Palm is one of the newest observation decks in the city, and the views on offer are simply incredible!

solo travel group dubai

The observation deck is stunning, and has some unbeatable views of the palm islands, spanning for miles in every direction.

It’s one of my favorite observation decks, and the entrance is located in a great mall too – so it’s ideal for solo travelers who might want to do a little bit of shopping!

Click here to book your advance tickets!

solo travel group dubai

Take a helicopter tour

If you want to take in Dubai’s skyline from the sky… Then you’re going to want to add an amazing helicopter tour to your itinerary.

Seeing Dubai from a helicopter is one of the most luxurious and splurge-worthy things to do alone in Dubai.

Seriously, taking the city’s many skyscrapers and architecture from the sky is seriously incredible, and it’s one of the best ways to truly understand the scale of the city.

Click here to book my recommended choice for helicopter tours in Dubai!

solo travel group dubai

Take a jet ski tour

If you’ve never tried jet skiing before, then we think you’re going to love our next suggestion for things to do alone in Dubai.

Your jetskiing tour is led by an expert, and you’ll be given plenty of opportunities to learn the basics, try a few different speeds and tricks, etc.

It’s an incredible way to see the coastline and all the amazing skyscrapers along the coastline too. And a great way to meet some people in your jetskiing tour group too!

Click here to book tickets for jetskiing in Dubai!

solo travel group dubai

Take a beach walk

Next on my list of things to do alone in Dubai, it’s taking a relaxing walk along one of the city’s many public beaches !

There are many gorgeous ones to choose from, some are slightly busier than others, and some also offer beachside dining too.

Do a hop-on hop-off bus tour

Look, I know the open-top bus tours can seem a little touristy to many people, but they’re a seriously great option for solo travelers!

It’s a great way of seeing a lot of the city, without having to navigate public transport or worry about route planning.

I always maintain that these hop-on and hop-off bus tours are fantastic for solo travelers, especially those who want to keep everything easy and simple!

Click here to book bus tour tickets!

Visit one of the city’s waterparks

If you’re looking to embrace your inner child, then we think adding a waterpark to your list if a great idea!

One of the great things about visiting the Dubai waterparks alone, is also the reduced queuing time for solo riders!

Click here to book advance purchase waterpark tickets!

solo travel group dubai

Go kayaking

If you’re an outdoorsy person, then this next suggestion for things to do alone in Dubai is going to be perfect for you!

Hiring out a clear-bottom kayak is such a fun and exciting way to see the skyline from the water, and you can take things at your own pace too – which we love.

Click here to book your clear-bottom kayak rental!

solo travel group dubai

Browse the designer stores

Next on my list, it’s browsing and window-shopping all the amazing designer stores in Dubai’s many malls.

Look, you don’t actually need to buy anything! Sometimes it’s fun just to look!

And there’s something so special about their pieces on sale in Dubai, they’re on another level of luxury!

solo travel group dubai

Watch the Burj Kalifa light show

How could I write this list and not include watching the incredible Burj Kalifa light show.

The light show happens every night, and it’s totally free to enjoy too (which is great for solo travelers in Dubai!).

You don’t need to pay to watch the light show, and it’s right by the mall too, so you can do a few of these activities together on the same day.

solo travel group dubai

I hope this list has been useful and given you plenty of ideas and inspiration!

Solo Travel In Dubai: Is It Worth It?

Let’s kick off this solo female travel guide by discussing if traveling to Dubai alone is even worth it.

When solo travelers consider visiting the Middle East , it is fairly typical to feel a few nerves. After all, this region does not get the best press in western media.

In my opinion, that is a shame. I’ve had some of the best travel experiences of my life in the Middle East, particularly in Dubai.

Dubai is a great place to dip your toes into solo travel in the Middle East . It has everything a visitor could ask for, and then some: a welcoming culture, incredible architecture, interesting history, rugged nature, and adventure activities galore.

Additionally, English is commonly spoken, and the infrastructure is modern and reliable.

I originally went to Dubai not necessarily expecting to ever return back; but now, many years later, I’ve visited the United Arab Emirates countless times. I’m continuously impressed by Dubai, and I’m willing to bet that you will be too!

Where Is Dubai?

Dubai is an Emirate within the United Arab Emirates on the Arabian Peninsula. Think of “emirates” as states – and Dubai is the best known one.

The city of Dubai is located within the Emirate of Dubai, and it sits next to Abu Dhabi, which is the nation’s capital. Dubai is also bordered by the Arabian Sea.

Best Time To Visit Dubai

Dubai is a great place to visit year-round, but you may opt for one season over another depending on the activities you plan to do.

Summer in Dubai

If you enjoy outdoor adventures , you will likely want to avoid the summer heat. Summers can be overwhelmingly warm if you aren’t used to it. Triple digits and scorching sun should be expected.

That being said, almost anywhere you visit indoors will be expertly air-conditioned, such as hotels, malls, restaurants, and attractions. Be aware that some outdoor attractions are closed in the summer.

Winter in Dubai

The most pleasant weather is found in the winter months, between November and March. It’s the best time for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

But with the comfortable temperatures comes larger crowds. The winter season is when most tourists visit Dubai, so your accommodation and tours may carry a higher price tag during this time.

Getting To Dubai

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the central hub in the Middle East, so you can catch flights here from just about anywhere.

Most cities in Europe and Asia have easy direct flights here, and even the USA’s larger cities have non-stop and connecting routes here. The airport is modern, clean, and easy to navigate.

Alternatively, Abu Dhabi’s airport sometimes offers cheaper flights, but be aware that it is at least one hour away from most places in Dubai.

Getting from either airport to Dubai is easy, either via taxi or Uber, and even the metro stops at DXB.

Getting Around Dubai As A Solo Traveler

Those traveling alone in Dubai will be happy to know it is an easily navigable city. If you only have limited time, you will likely hire taxis and Ubers to get around. These are reliable and safe.

If you have more time to spare and are traveling on a budget , consider taking the Dubai Metro . It is clean and simple, with different colored routes carrying passengers around the city. You can reach many of the major attractions from the Dubai Metro too.

Overall, Dubai is not an easily walkable city. Think of it like Los Angeles – certain pockets are very walkable, but you will need transportation of some kind to get from one area to another.

Dubai Travel Map

To help give you a lay of the land, here is a map. It has most of the main points and solo activities mentioned in this guide to solo travel in Dubai pre-plotted:

Is It Safe To Travel To Dubai Alone As A Woman?

One of the reasons that Dubai is an excellent place to travel solo is due to its safety. In fact, according to Numbeo , the risk of violent crime and even petty theft and robby are very low.

Note that while Dubai is known for being ultra-modern, it is still a Muslim country. Women should dress conservatively and cover shoulders, knees, and heads for mosques. And, in areas outside of Dubai, this is even more important.

While you may see other women dressing in a casual way, I typically see it as a sign of respect to dress in a way that locals would. This also helps you avoid unwanted attention when you’re traveling solo!

Additionally, don’t leave valuables out in cars, restaurants, or hotels when you are not present. It’s also wise not to wear flashy jewelry or carry tons of cash when traveling solo to avoid pickpockets .

And, as with anywhere, don’t go out late at night alone. While walking at night in Dubai is generally considered safe, it’s still smart to take precautions when on your own.

Overall, you can travel Dubai without worry, even if you are solo.

Where To Stay On A Solo Trip To Dubai

Wondering where to stay when going to Dubai alone? You’ve got plenty of safe options, both near to the tourist spots and in more secluded areas away from the hustle and bustle.

Dubai Marina

One of the best areas to stay for first timers in Dubai is near the Dubai Marina , which is within walking distance of the popular Marina Beach . You can also walk to a few popular attractions, like the Dubai Eye Ferris Wheel (Ain Dubai) — the world’s tallest observation wheel — and trendy eateries and shops.

This is also a good base to reach many of the other sights by car.

Dubai Marina Hotels: Click here for a full list of hotels in Dubai Marina . Dubai Marina Tours: Click here for a full list of fun tours in Dubai Marina .

For traditional Emirati charm on your solo trip in Dubai, consider staying in Old Dubai , specifically in its waterfront Al Seef area. Here you’ll find shopping, restaurants, and easy access to Dubai Creek – a waterway that divides the city.

This area will often have cheaper prices, but is farther from some of the main attractions.

Al Seef Hotels: Click here for a full list of hotels in Al Seef . Al Seef Tour: Click here to book a 3-hour Al Seef Sightseeing Tour .

Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai is a great place to be if you are a city person. You’ll be close to the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Aquarium , as well as many of the public art exhibits.

You will also be close to Jumeirah Beach , which is a free and very popular public beach.

Downtown Dubai Hotels: Click here for a full list of hotels in Downtown Dubai . Downtown Dubai Tours: Click here to book a Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Downtown Plaza and Dubai Opera Walking Tour in Downtown Dubai .

Deira is the place to stay if you have an overnight stopover or an early departure flight. It’s on the other side of Dubai Creek from the areas mentioned; however, it is cheaper and closer to the airport.

Deira Hotels: Click here for a full list of hotels in Deira .

Hostels in Dubai

In recent years, several hostels have popped up in Dubai. These offer a great way to meet other travelers to sightsee with. You can even find hostels with private rooms, which are a popular option for solo female travel in Dubai!

Top Things To Do Alone In Dubai

Dubai is known for being a modern, clean city with impressive architecture; but, there is much more to it than that!

It’s truly a city that offers something for every type of traveler. After spending countless months here, I have found some of the best things to do in Dubai as a solo traveler:

1. Go to the top of Burj Khalifa

You can’t visit Dubai and not see the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa . While it is stunning from the ground, visitors have the option to ride up to the 148 th floor for some of the best views in the city.

Every evening at 6pm, you can catch the famous Dubai Fountain show in front of the Burj Khalifa. If you get a table at one of the restaurants inside the adjacent Dubai Mall , you will have one of the best vantage points. Just get there early as tables sometimes fill up.

Whether you appreciate architecture or just a spectacular view, the Burj Khalifa is a must see.

Click here to view ticket options for the Burj Khalifa — including skip-the-line access!

2. Explore outdoor public art

Dubai has a steadily growing art scene, and plentiful artworks have been cropping up around the city.

During my time enjoying Dubai solo female travel, I fell in love with the Wings of Mexico by Gorge Marin. Not only are the wings themselves beautiful, but the sculpture perfectly frames the Burj Khalifa and is a great photo spot.

Another unique artwork in Dubai is Mirek Struzik’s Dandelions . Located just outside of the Dubai Opera , the artwork consists of 14 giant steel dandelions. Stay until after sunset, when they light up in different colors that reflect the mood of their surroundings.

And near to the Dandelions is another piece called Declaration . Bright pink calligraphy is etched into a grey wall that depicts a saying from Sheikh Mohammed: “Art in all its colors and types reflects the culture of the nations, their history and civilization.”

3. Take an abra to Old Dubai

Old Dubai is, as you would guess, the older and more traditional side of the city. Though it has been getting a bit of a facelift over the years, this is where you can still find the old souks and shops from days before.

Take an abra, or traditional wooden boat, across Dubai Creek to explore the Spice Souk , which showcases a colorful display of aromatic spices.

Or wander the Gold Souk , where a labyrinth of shimmering gold jewelry is on display. Explore the ornate mosques and get lost in Al Seef’s alleyways.

Old Dubai is one of my favorite areas of the city. Don’t miss it!

4. Stroll the Dubai Miracle Garden

The Dubai Miracle Garden offers a stunning display of colorful flowers and is one of the top Dubai attractions.

Closed during the summer, it’s the largest outdoor flower garden in the world — which is quite a feat, given that it is in the middle of a desert city.

Featuring endless flower species in every bright color you can imagine, the garden is absolutely breathtaking.

Shapes and characters have been sculpted through expertly cut leaves and shrubs, and you may even see animatronic dancers and animals covered in blankets of petals!

5. Book a desert safari

Whether you spend one day or one week in Dubai, make it a point to book a desert safari . For me, nothing says “Middle East” more than the stunning Arabian Desert .

You can choose from sunrise or sunset options, and both will include wild dune bashing — as in, driving at high speeds over the dunes — beautiful photo stops, and often a trip to a camel farm.

If you book the dinner safari, you’ll also be treated to a Middle Eastern buffet, a belly dancing show, henna tattoos, and more.

seeing the exterior of the Jumeirah Mosque on a solo trip to Dubai

6. Visit the Jumeirah Mosque

If you are a first time visitor to Dubai, be sure to add the Jumeirah Mosque to your list of things to do in Dubai solo.

Dubbed by some as the “love mosque,” the Jumeirah Mosque has become a popular spot for newlyweds to take their wedding photos. You may catch a couple standing against the backdrop of its striking white facade, with intricate designs and towering minarets that seem to touch the sky.

I like to wander around the outside and inside, when allowed, of various mosques when in the UAE. The architecture is usually stunning, with plush carpets and Arabic calligraphy adorning the interior.

Be sure check the day’s prayer times to avoid disturbing any services.

7. Take a sunset dhow dinner cruise on Dubai Creek

Explore Dubai from the water! As vibrant Dubai shifts from day to night, there’s no better way to witness the colorful sky than on a sunset cruise on a dhow, which is a traditional wooden sailing vessel.

Prepare to be amazed as you set sail with a backdrop of the cityscape against the fiery red sky.

Most tours, like these , serve a buffet dinner and provide entertainment as you glide along the tranquil waters of the Arabian Gulf. Bring your camera, as there will be traditional dancing, singing, and lively music on board.

You will also have the best views of iconic landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab or Old Dubai , depending on where you sail.

A sunset cruise is a great way to close out an evening of solo traveling in Dubai.

8. Explore Dubai through its shopping malls

Both travelers and Emirati citizens tend to love Dubai’s shopping options. When it comes to shopping, Dubai has it all — from sleek designer boutiques to traditional souks selling handmade trinkets.

Dubai is home to some of the biggest malls in the world. The top three mega malls in Dubai are the Dubai Mall, the Mall of the Emirates, and Ibn Battuta Mall.

The Dubai Mall is an absolute behemoth. Not only does it house over 1,300 stores, but it also has its own aquarium, ice rink, and indoor theme park. Did you ever think you could ice skate in the desert? You can in Dubai.

Meanwhile, the Mall of the Emirates has it’s very own indoor ski slope, complete with man-made snow.

And if you’re looking to indulge your wanderlust while shopping, then the Ibn Battuta Mall is the spot for you. This gigantic mall is designed to look like different countries, with each section themed after a different region of the world.

So whether you’re a shopaholic or are just looking for an offbeat experience, Dubai’s malls won’t disappoint. And don’t worry if you want to keep your Dubai visit budget-friendly, as window shopping is also an option!

9. Visit the Dubai Frame

This incredibly tall architectural marvel is a must see. Looming over Dubai, the Dubai Frame captures the skyline of this magnificent metropolis within its boundaries.

This stunning attraction offers visitors a unique experience too: from 150 meters (492 feet) high, visitors can see panoramic views of the city, the desert, and the Persian Gulf on a clear day.

My favorite part about this structure is that Old Dubai sits in one direction, and modern Dubai sits in the other.

With its shimmering gold design and unparalleled views, the Dubai Frame is one of the best things to do in Dubai as a solo traveler.

10. Take a day trip to Abu Dhabi

If you have the time while visiting Dubai, I highly recommend taking a day trip to Abu Dhabi , the capital of the UAE. Here you will experience a more quiet and understated atmosphere, but with equally stunning views.

In Abu Dhabi, you can tour the Emirates Palace or stroll the Louvre Abu Dhabi art museum. You can also visit the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque , which will wow you with its opulence.

Abu Dhabi also has several theme parks, like Ferrari World — which is perfect for car fanatics — and Warner Brothers World , which is home to the world’s largest indoor theme park.

Though very different than Dubai, visiting Abu Dhabi on a day trip will give you a deeper understanding of the country.

Tips For Solo Dining In Dubai

Solo dining in Dubai is a non-issue, even for females. The worst that will happen is you may get a few curious stares, particularly when you choose establishments that typically cater to locals.

To help ease any discomfort or awkwardness, here are some tips for eating alone in Dubai:

Consider a food tour. If you aren’t sure where to eat, book one of the many food tours in Dubai . Along with gaining an understanding of the local culinary culture, these types of tours also make it easier to meet other people while visiting Dubai alone.

Opt for a meal in a local home. If you love culturally-immersive dining experiences, EatWith is a platform showcasing in-home meals, cooking classes, and food tours hosted by locals. The experiences are perfect for solo travelers in Dubai nervous about eating alone at a restaurant.

Grab an outdoor table at the busy Marina. At the Dubai Marina, many restaurants have outdoor tables — like these — so you will feel like you’re in a crowd even if you’re alone. Plus, it is great people-watching!

Eat at your hotel restaurant bar. The hotels here are used to welcoming solo travelers. If you’re not feeling up to braving Dubai’s restaurants solo, this is a great option. And, you are likely to see or meet other travelers as well.

Other tips for dining solo in Dubai:

  • Dubai has everything from street food to local eateries to high end restaurants, and most of them will have menus in English on hand.
  • Smaller local eateries may require Google Translate , but for the most part you will have no problem.
  • Carry cards for larger restaurants and have cash on hand for the smaller stalls or street food.

Estimated Dubai Solo Trip Cost

It can be difficult to estimate expected costs for solo travelers in Dubai. This is because the city is home to such a wide spectrum of options — from the very cheap to the ultra luxe.

If you travel on a shoestring budget by staying in hostels and using the Dubai Metro to get around, you could get by on about $35 per day. This would require easy street food and casual meals.

A midrange traveler who stays in an affordable hotel, eats at local restaurants, and occasionally uses a taxi or Uber might pay around $75-$100 per day.

And, if you are looking for luxury, you will find it in Dubai. A more upscale itinerary might include glamorous hotels for hundreds to even thousands of dollars per night, eating at the fanciest restaurants, and shopping sprees at luxury malls.

Solo Travel in Dubai: Is it Safe?

When I first mentioned I would be travelling solo to Dubai, UAE I was met with some hesitation from friends and family. After all, Dubai is in the Middle East which does have a reputation for being difficult for solo female travellers. I knew that Dubai was extremely westernized and not at all like Egypt. However, even though am a very experienced solo traveller, after my rough time in Morocco I made sure to ask ahead so I could be best prepared. So I spoke to my Dubai foodie friend Liam , who currently lives in Dubai with his wife Naomi, and asked for Naomi’s opinion on solo travel in Dubai as a woman. She laughed and told me that it’s probably the safest place she’s ever been and, after two visits to Dubai, I agree. Solo travel in Dubai is easy, safe, and a lot of fun. So if you are considering travelling solo to Dubai, here’s what to know.

Looking for an awesome credit card to help you earn points to travel more? Here’s what I use.

Safety in Dubai as a Solo Traveller

Hannah Logan looking out the window at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai

So, why is Dubai so safe for solo travellers? Well, it’s safe for everyone. Dubai has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire world. Now, this isn’t to say that there isn’t any crime at all. Of course there is, so you still need to be aware and make smart choices while travelling solo in Dubai. But the chances of you getting robbed, assaulted or worse in Dubai is very low. In fact even the Emirati princes go out without body guards and security (at least that you can see) in an effort to show just how safe Dubai is.

So, why is the crime rate in Dubai so low? This is mainly for two reasons. First off, there are cameras everywhere recording everything so it’s basically impossible to pull a wedgie much less do any criminal activity without being caught on camera.

Secondly, and probably the real deterrent, is the severity of the punishments associated with the crimes. The United Arab Emirates is incredibly strict and they do still enforce capital punishment. This works to your advantage as a solo traveller in Dubai wanting to ensure your safety, but it also means that you, as a traveller, need to be cautious and respectful of the rules and regulations of Dubai as well. For example, you need to be incredibly cautious of what medications you bring into the country as many are illegal. I usually travel with allergy medications and pain killers as a ‘just in case’ but left them all behind just to be safe, assuming if I needed something I could just go to a pharmacy.

I also want to point out that I was never catcalled or sexually harassed in Dubai. As a woman, this always feels like a small miracle. During my time in Dubai I was approached by a few interested men while I was there but everything was very polite, friendly, and respectful.

Getting Around Dubai as a Solo Traveller

Hannah Logan on a boat in Dubai Canal

If you have done any research on Dubai before you’ll probably have noted a lot of mentions about public transport in Dubai and how it’s, well, not so great. Yes, there is a metro and yes there is a bus system but the connectivity is lacking and, while cheap, they can be quite slow. For this reason, especially if you are limited on time, it’s recommended to take taxis or use uber which are quite affordable.

As a solo female traveller, I usually avoid taxis and ubers. I’ve had a couple of bad experiences with male drivers and would honestly usually prefer to be on a crowded bus. However, I had zero issues with any of the drivers I had in Dubai. They were all men but they were all incredibly kind and respectful and I really enjoyed chatting with several of them. If you aren’t comfortable driving with men, there are female-only taxis. These are pink taxis and you can request them at the airport and ask your hotel to arrange one for you.

The Dubai metro also has female-only carriages. I did not take the metro but I did take a bus once, and it was totally fine. The driver was male but he was very kind. I didn’t know that I couldn’t pay in cash (you need a card) and the driver actually let me use his personal bus pass to tap on and off for the ride (I gave him the cash in exchange).

When I was in Old Dubai I also hopped on a stranger’s boat for a ride up and down the canal. As I sat there, alone on a boat with a strange man in the Middle East, it occurred to me how strange this was. Yet I was totally safe and happy as he pointed out various restaurants and landmarks on my scenic tour.

From cars to buses, boats and even just walking around alone and asking for directions, I felt safe and comfortable as a solo female traveller in Dubai the entire time, both during the day and night (in the central downtown areas).

Where to Stay in Dubai as a Solo Traveller

Downtown Dubai at night

There are plenty of areas in which to stay in Dubai. Again, since you will be relying mostly on taxis and ubers (or public transit if you choose) to get around there really isn’t a bad area. That being said, the downtown Dubai area is the busiest and most touristic so I chose to stay close by and would recommend the same for other travellers. Not only does it make it easy to see some of the highlights such as the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, but because it is more popular I just felt safer, in general, being surrounded by fellow tourists. I, personally, haven’t heard of any bad places to stay as a solo traveller, but downtown was also what my friend Liam suggested as well so I was happy to take his advice as someone who lives there.

Looking for some recommendations?

If you want to splurge, try: The Palace Downtown

For something more midrange try: Ramada Downtown Dubai

I stayed just outside of Downtown Dubai in Business Bay at City Premiere Hotel Apartments. They had a great sale on and suites include kitchen & laundry facilities.

*Note: There are some hostels in Dubai but I’ve heard its more workers trying to find somewhere cheap to stay than backpackers. I’ve also heard that Dubai is big for Airbnb scams so I would suggest choosing to stay at a known hotel or apartment.

Eating out in Dubai as a Solo Traveller

Pasta and cocktail at Dubai Time Out Market

One of the things that solo travellers are mindful of is eating out. Some people don’t like it and just feel uncomfortable. Personally, I don’t mind it but I would agree that some places are more comfortable for eating alone than others.

I had no issues eating alone in Dubai and there are tons of restaurant options. Even the malls have plenty of restaurants and places to eat, including many of the brands and chains you recognize from home (like, for me, Tim Hortons!). My favourite place to eat in Dubai as a solo traveller was Time Out market in downtown Dubai. I loved the one in Lisbon so was very excited to see one in Dubai as well. If you have never been, it’s kind of like a high-end food court with some amazing food options from Japanese to British to Italian and more. There is a cocktail/beer/wine bar as well and you can order whatever you like from each individual vendor. Seating is big long tables in the middle and nobody will look twice at you if you are alone. Plus, the food is amazing.

If you want to eat somewhere a little nicer and traditional, like one of the restaurants overlooking the Burj Khalifa or the lake in downtown Dubai, I suggest making reservations. I didn’t think ahead to do that and a lot of places were fully booked, especially on the weekend.

Finally, if you really hate eating on your own, you can order delivery from most places too. There are plenty of delivery apps and if you have any questions the hotel staff can always give you some recommendations.

What to Wear in Dubai as a Solo Female Traveller

Hannah Logan at Dubai Miracle Gardens

As safe as Dubai is it is important to remember that Dubai is an Arabic city in a Muslim country and as such, you should be respectful and more mindful of what you wear. A quick look through Instagram will show you that anything goes but while you probably won’t be called out on wearing short skirts, booty shorts and crop tops in the street, it’s not really appropriate. Yes, it’s hot but there are plenty of cute outfits you can wear to look good in photos and still be mindful of the local culture.

Also, for those who like to keep it casual; it’s worth noting that some places do have dress codes. Especially if you are going to mosques, beach clubs during the day, or bars and events at night.

Things to do in Dubai as a Solo Traveller

Hannah Logan in front of Golden Doors

Another perk to solo travel in Dubai is that even though I was alone, I didn’t really feel like I missed out on anything. I was comfortable exploring the city on my own, and visiting the big attractions like the Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building), the Dubai fountain show, and the Dubai Miracle Garden. I felt fine shopping solo at the shopping malls and in the gold souk and spice souk of Old Dubai. I also had no problem finding a group tour to go to Abu Dhabi for the day. (I love using Get Your Guide for travel day trips. They also have some Dubai desert safaris and adventure options but having been to the Sahara and the deserts in Egypt , Jordan , and Israel I didn’t feel the need to see more sand dunes.)

The one time where I did feel excluded for being a solo traveller was trying to go to a beach club for a day. I emailed Nikki Beach Club to ask about availability, indicating that I was a solo traveller. Their reply to me literally said ‘we prefer couples and friend groups’. As a solo traveller, I found this really awkward and chose not to go somewhere where I wasn’t wanted. Instead, I went to the public beach and had a fun beach day by myself which ended up being a lot cheaper too.

Final Thoughts on Solo Travel in Dubai

I really enjoyed my solo trip to Dubai. It was fun, it was easy, and it was so incredibly safe- probably the safest place I’ve ever been. I would highly recommend Dubai as a travel destination for all solo travellers, but especially my fellow solo female travellers. It was so refreshing being somewhere that felt so safe and where I didn’t have to worry about being harassed as a solo woman.

When it comes to sightseeing, you would be spoilt for choices in this city. Right from the tallest building in the world to some of the most awesome beaches, Dubai is constantly coming up with new and innovative buildings and places. The Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Frame, Dubai Museum, Dubai Eye, Dubai Miracle Garden, Jumeriah Beach, etc. are some of the best places to visit in the city.

Dubai Mall Aquarium

Fun Activities:

Dubai offers a plethora of fun activities: the best one being the Dubai desert safari. The Dubai desert safari brings together adventure and entertainment. You also get to visit the amazing desert and enjoy some delicious dinner. Apart from this, there are also an array of amusement parks like VR Park Dubai, Dubai Parks & Resorts, Ski Dubai, Atlantis Aquaventure, IMG Worlds of Adventure, Wild Wadi Water Park, etc. where you can spend an entire day.

Dhow cruise

Dubai is a city that offers world cuisine to you. Emirati, Lebanese, Mediterranean, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Greek, Italian, are just a few of the cuisines that you can try here. The best part about Dubai is that you would easily find both small restaurants with reasonable prices and fine dining restaurants for every cuisine here.

Dubai is truly a food lover’s delight. For a unique dining experience, you must try the dhow cruise Dubai , where you would get to enjoy a scrumptious dinner while sailing on a traditional dhow.

Although Dubai is a part of an Islamic country UAE, the nightlife here is simply amazing. Solo travellers would love to visit some of the most happening bars, lounges and nightclubs in the city. Some of the best nightclubs of Dubai can be found at Dubai Marina, Al Barsha, Jumeriah, etc. Note that you need to be above the age of 21 to drink in Dubai.

It is a known fact that Dubai is a haven for lovers of shopping. There are numerous shopping malls in the city; some of the best include Dubai Mall, Mall of Emirates, Marina Mall, etc. Apart from this, there are the souks as well where you can shop for everything from jewellery to the local souvenirs.

Things to Remember

As a solo traveller, you need to keep certain things in mind while visiting Dubai:

  • Remember to dress modestly while going out. Dubai frowns upon skin show, so keep your knees, shoulders and neckline covered.
  • Drinking in public and drinking and driving are illegal in Dubai. If caught, you would be fined, jailed or both.
  • As the temperature in Dubai is always high, wear light, cotton clothes. Also, remember to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
  • It is always better to have a first kit with all the essential medicines for emergencies, as medicines are quite expensive in Dubai.

If you have never been on a solo international , Dubai is a good place to start, you can plan a quick stopover in Dubai . On the other hand, even if you are a seasoned solo traveller, Dubai, although a bit touristy, is a place that you would love and enjoy.

The Ultimate Solo Traveler’s Guide To Dubai

The Ultimate Solo Traveler’s Guide To Dubai

The Ultimate Solo Traveler’s Guide To Dubai

Are you tired of your friends bailing out on you for the trip? Or family trips are just not your thing? Or is it just that you want some me-time, a solo soul searching experience, and a break away from the world? Solo Travel is an excellent solution to all of these. Now, where do we plan this solo trip of ours? It is important to have solo trips to cities that are safe and maybe a tad bit touristy too, right? So we think Dubai is the perfect International solo trip destination you need.

After all, what better than taking a solo journey to the shopping hub of the Middle East that has just so much more to offer- from cultural marvels to historical architectures. Here’s a little guide about Dubai, so you know everything before you decide to head out on your own.

Visa Essentials

Indian Passport Holders need to apply for a Tourist Visa before they can fly into UAE. You can do this either via the airlines they are flying in, that is, Etihad Airways, Emirates Airlines, Fly Dubai and Air Arabia. You can also get your licensed hotel or travel agent to arrange the visa.

Finding A Solo Friendly Stay

It is important to find a comfortable solo stay while traveling abroad. You don’t want your stay to be in a commercial office area that shuts down early in the evening. Dubai has plenty of bustling areas for you to stay in, but our pick would be to find an affordable stay in Downtown Dubai . This gives easy access to restaurants, shopping destinations (like The Dubai Mall), Metro Terminals, and nightlife too.

Ibis World Trade Centre

Price: Starting from AED 93.86 Book at: ibis.accorhotels.com Amenities: You can retreat into their spa and wellness center, or take a cold grab from the mini room in the fridge. Ibis World Trade Centre also offers the usual high-end facilities like free parking, wake-up service, etc. in addition to a free airport shuttle.

Getting around in-cab, especially when traveling solo, can be quite a costly affair. We suggest you get yourself a Nol Card when in Dubai to make sure you have an affordable as well as a safe journey. And don’t you worry! The RTA transport here is CCTV monitored and pretty safe.

Things To Do In Dubai

Before taking a trip solo, you must plan the trip well in advance. So if you are looking to travel to Dubai alone, here are some things you must do in Dubai. From visiting your favorite tourist destinations to going and finding the top historical places in Dubai – there is just so much to explore, that we assure you, you would want to stay here some more. If you are traveling in winters in Dubai , you can also make the most out of the beaches here.

All traveling and touristing and no retreat makes Jack a tired boy! We know we know, that’s not how the saying goes. But if you are in Dubai, there are some great leisure and retreat options you must try besides the ones that are available in the hotel. From outdoor resorts to therapeutic ones indoors, there are a lot of spas in Dubai to choose from.

Solo Things To Do In Dubai

1. The World’s Tallest Building & Fountain

This is something you don’t need a company for. Go ahead and take that climb up to the world’s tallest building that Burj Khalifa is. Worried about not having anyone to click pictures up above? Don’t worry! There are professional photographers with their setups that will click the best possible pics for your insta feed too. You must also watch the Dubai Fountains in their full glory as this is another thing yo do not need a partner for.

2. A Camping Retreat

Head to the Banan Beach and get yourself a camp to get lost in the serenity of the desert, away from the bustle of the city. Make new friends at the beach or just take a book and unwind. This is an excellent retreat for solo travelers in Dubai.

3. Go On A Chaat Trail In Dubai

This one is for the foodies. Why should families and couples have all the fun right! The best thing about Chaat is that you do not need a company to finish all the goodness. So going out on a Chaat trail in MeenaBazaar might be an excellent idea for solo travelers.

4. Go Ziplining In Jebel Jais

Take a bus to Jebel Jais and breathe in the mountains. For the adventurous solo traveler, ziplining through the dizzying heights must be a sure shot at the bucket list. What makes the experience even more special is that it is the world’s longest zip lining that you can take.

Read & Memorize The UAE Laws

There is some cultural regulations that you must take care of in UAE. As an Islamic country, it’s best to dress modestly in the Emirates. While beach wear is allowed at the beaches in Dubai, it is a huge NO-NO to wear them elsewhere. Also be careful while travelling across emirates as well. Laws change from emirate to emirate. So emirates like Sharjah are dry Emirates, and you wouldn’t want to be breaking laws here. Its always a great idea to familiarise with the local customs and laws before heading to a new destination. Here are a few unusual laws in UAE tourists must be careful of as well.

"It’s really nice to have a platform like GAFFL with lots of travelers wanting to do the same as you, a real beautiful cultural exchange. You can meet people so easily and in a trustful way. We were four girls, from French, German and American backgrounds, without knowing each other from before. We spent an amazing week together, 2000km driving, camping on the way. We saw kangaroos, koalas, penguins and pelicans"

Saed

“I have found GAFFL to be an amazing tool for finding similar minded travel partners to embark on an adventure. Through GAFFL, I had organized a trip to Mexico City last month and Quazi joined the trip from Victoria, BC. We spent 14 days of straight exploring, hiking, eating and drinking. "I accidentally scrolled across GAFFL and I'm so pleased I did. I met Amaia and immediately decided to road-trip together. The trip was amazing! The guides were very informative and patient with our large group. They even made exceptions when we needed to add or remove something from our package. I would book with them again. The only downside, in my opinion, was with the hotel. The rooms have no ventilation so with the air on, the room remained “damp” feeling and smelling.

Our round trip was really a unique, wonderful experience (Dubai-Al Ain-Abu Dhabi-Oman) that my husband and I will never forget. We felt very comfortable and really saw a lot. The day trip to Oman was also fantastic. Our tour guide, Diya, was always there for us, answered all our questions and had a tremendous amount of knowledge. We are very grateful that we were able to experience and see so much. Everything was perfectly organized. This tour and travel agency is fantastic!

Dubai Luxury Holidays Package 6 Night 7 Days

Despite the very hot weather, we enjoyed the tour. If I could make some input, the First day which was Dubai City Tour, no lunch time set aside. The trip to Abu Dhabi, the lunch period is less than an hour and took us to buffet restaurants that is not practical I think for that amount of period considering the prize we have to pay. The dinner cruise tour, they made us wait for 3 hours almost then ended up not picking us at all. They compensate through the VIP section when they rescheduled it in the Desdert Safari Other than that we enjoyed our trip. The highlight is the Burj Kkalifa and Dessert Safari. Thanks Madelene

It was my second trip with Relax Getaways this year. I booked Dubai tour with them and it was fantastic trip. They organised it very well and very responsive in terms of services. I liked the itinerary most and it includes most of the must see things of Dubai. I recommend this itinerary for the first time travelers and 7 days itinerary is best for the beginners. Recommended. They were very prompt or contacted us to let us know if they were running late. The transfer from the airport was good. They allowed us to choose from several great hotels. My sister and I had a wonderful tour through UAE with Wingbuddy. The tour is quite busy but we liked that as we probably won’t be back and wanted to see as much as possible. Also recommend the day trip to Oman, which was really nice!

Dubai Premium Holidays 5 Nights 6 Days

It was so well organised and JTR were very good at communicating before the actual tour and also throughout the tour. They also helped us organise special dinners for our wedding anniversary. We extended our tour and JTR were really helpful in organising for the hotels and transfers. Dubai itself is amazing and the activities included are really good and worth it. The desert safari was so well organised and our guide Riaz the best guide and a wonderful photographer. We had so much fun and we were safely brought back to our hotel. Abu Dhabi trip was bit tiresome, but it was really worth it as there were so much to see. The marina dhow cruise was also amazing, food was awesome. I would say JTR made the effort in accommodating to our choice of hotels. We had most part of trip at Dusit Thani. Must say their service was amazing, close to the public transport. The second part of our accommodation was at first central hotel and suites. Not really to our standards, rooms were dark and very old. Not the best that is expected in Dubai. Did complain to them and were given another room, much better than the first rooms. But apart from that, everything else was so well organised. I would like to commend our liaison person Rahim of JTR. He was always quick to answer to all my questions through WhatsApp and guided us all along. Highly recommend this tour.

All of the tour guides were excellent and very knowledgeable. My only issues were that we paid for a 5 star hotel and we got a 4 star hotel. I let a representative know about this hotel discrepancy and nothing was done or corrected. It was never addressed. Also, we were not informed that we would not be seeing certain listed sites until I asked why we didn't see them. I was then told they were closed due to Covid. Those sites are still listed in the online brochure and thus included in the price.

Indus Travel amazed me. I have traveled before with other tour companies and I have to say that the organization of Indus Travel was really neat. I received ahead of the trip the schedule of what to expect with times a locations. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and nice. The hotel was picked with care and we got a great hotel that went beyond our expectations. The airline selected was one of the best ones and the price of the trips were convenient.

Safety Tips

Dubai is a safe city for solo travelers, but it's always important to take precautions. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Dress modestly: While Dubai is a modern and cosmopolitan city, it's still a Muslim country, so it's important to dress modestly. Avoid wearing revealing or tight clothing in public places.
  • Respect local customs: Dubai is a conservative city, so it's important to respect local customs and traditions. Avoid public displays of affection, drinking alcohol in public places, and using offensive language.
  • Stay in a safe area: Dubai is divided into different neighborhoods, and some areas are safer than others. Stay in a well-lit and busy area, especially at night.

Best Time to Visit Dubai

Dubai has a hot and humid climate, so it's important to plan your trip accordingly. The best time to visit Dubai is from November to March when the weather is pleasant and mild. During this time, you can enjoy outdoor activities like sightseeing, shopping, and desert safaris.

My solo trip to dubai (seven days itinerary).

Trip to Dubai - Al Awir Desert Safari Camp Site

Dubai  in the United Arab Emirates is vastly famous worldwide as a great shopping destination where the majority of the tourists started to shop from the airport due to the duty-free tag . But Dubai is more than a shopping hub. It is also common to enjoy a family trip to Dubai. I had a fun solo travel  in Dubai and found a city like Dubai is not even boring to travel alone. Therefore, I’m sharing my Dubai travel tips and experiences so that you can also explore in a group or even solo. Visiting Dubai for the first time? My Dubai seven days itinerary will help you to explore almost all the top attractions in the city. Get all the details inside to travel to Dubai and entertain you the best.

For a fun vacation, there are many  coolest things to do in Dubai .  You can happily spend one day, even more than a week in the city. Dubai offers a lot to explore from many unique landmarks to desert safari, traditional old souks to luxury shopping malls, lovely beaches to beautiful water parks, and more. It was a relaxing solo trip to Dubai, even in the summertime, and had many indoor to outdoor activities. However, my Dubai tour seven days itinerary can be followed for any season.

I took the direct flights to Dubai from Dhaka. It was nice to fly for the first time with Emirates Airlines. I loved their service and delicious Asian dish ‘Kheema Mutter (Minced mutton with peas, served with Khichuri)’ for breakfast. The  UAE  tourist visa requirements are not the same for all countries. They offer On Arrival Visa for some countries, and  UAE visa information  will help you to know all the details to apply. I got a month’s visa and stayed a total of 11 days, including Abu Dhabi.

Best Time To Visit Dubai

November to March became the best time to visit Dubai. Also, during the peak season, most tourists travel to Dubai in the cold months. But during winter also the average temperature is 24°C – 26°C. Most of the hotels and flights are fully booked in the high season. During winter, it became more crowded for the biggest Dubai Shopping Festival, which is held every year in the city for one month (January-February). Furthermore, Dubai Miracle Garden is only possible to visit in this season. Global Village Dubai is open for all tourists from October to April.

Summer is the off-season in Dubai due to excess temperature but also the best time to visit if you want to avoid extra tour costs and overcrowding. April to October are the hot months in Dubai. The temperature between 33°C – 38°C is bearable unless it is humid. However, you can avoid the heat by enjoying all indoor trips, spending more time in the mall, swimming pools, and water parks. It is also possible to join the evening Dubai safari tours, Dubai city night tours, and cruise tours with dinner. So, it can be even fun to visit Dubai in the summertime, plus you can save some cash.

Is Dubai Safe For Solo Female Travel

The United Arab Emirates is a land of many expatriates. It is one of the safest countries in the world. English is widely spoken everywhere and follows strict rules and regulations. I didn’t feel insecure during my entire UAE trip. The second-largest emirate Dubai is also safe for a woman traveling alone. I found many South Asians, along with other citizens in Dubai. It is wise to respect and abide by the cultural and religious values when in Dubai and other emirates. Dubai is a smart and modern city, yet modest dress up always recommended.

It was all safe to even enjoy the night tours in the city. I didn’t face anything awkward besides some suddenly started to follow on the road and come up with more interest to talk. It’s better not to accept any offer even it sounds free and lucrative. Remember, no extra precaution required to travel alone in Dubai. It just needs to be smart to handle extra curiosity and motive around. Understanding body language is a must. Mostly guessed I work here, or I need a job, hehe.

There is also a Women-Only taxi service in Dubai. The first day I took the Ladies Limo service from Dubai International Airport to the hotel, and the driver was from Bangladesh. It was lovely to know about this standard transport facility where women only carry women and let you travel safely. But Ladies Limo is an expensive one compared to the RTA Taxi service. The meter started at 25 AED.

Places to Stay in Dubai

Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah are two of the famous places to stay in Dubai and best for the luxury traveler. Dubai Downtown is also a popular area to stay close to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall. All beach lovers prefer to stay in the Jumeirah Beach Road areas, and you can book any accommodations from budget to mid-range and luxury. For the budget traveler, Old Dubai is the best and possible to get many standard budget hotels to stay in Bur Dubai and Deira. Overall, for long-time travelers, it is budget-friendly to remain in apartments, which is standard in Dubai. There are hostels as well but not an excellent idea in the city.

I preferred to stay in Bur Dubai at the Gateway Hotel. The Dubai International Airport is just 7 km away from the hotel. The hotel area is very close to Meena Bazaar or Al Souk Al Kabir and is best for budget shopping and sightseeing attractions in Old Dubai. The walking tour is fun near the hotel area. The majorities of the people in Bur Dubai are from Kerala, India. There are many shops, Asian restaurants, and hotels in Bur Dubai. The communication system was the best. You can quickly get a taxi, and Dubai Metro GreenLine is very close to the hotel.

Gateway Hotel is the best choice for a luxury yet affordable stay in Dubai. I had my best six nights in the hotel at Deluxe Single Room with all comfort, modern amenities, and services. This family-friendly hotel was safe to stay. For booking desert safari, I took their tour desk service. The hotel offers all complimentary buffet breakfast and free access to Wi-Fi. There is also one fitness center, rooftop pool, and buffet dinner services for the guests. I loved their buffet breakfast for a lot of healthy and delicious food items from vegetarian to continental and halal. Moreover, the buffet dinner cost me little but had the best dinner time in Dubai.

By staying in Dubai, you can go for day tours in three other famous emirates Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah. Sharjah is just 28 km away from Dubai. It takes only one and half an hour to reach Abu Dhabi by taxi, and the distance is 139 km. But I’ve also stayed four nights in Abu Dhabi and had a fun three days city tour with Big Bus Tours.

Seven Days Dubai Tour Itinerary

This one-week Dubai itinerary will take you to explore the best, even not spending a lot. My solo travel in Dubai gave me a good impression of the city from the airport until the end of the day. I had the best time in the city. There are many things to do in Dubai alone. It was more interesting to enjoy adventurous new stuff for the first time during my trip to Dubai. Furthermore, here are 7 books to read before traveling UAE if you’re planning a trip to the Middle East for the first time.

Mostly I liked visiting Dubai’s iconic skyscrapers, walking tours in the famous tourist spots. Shopping was the real fun from the old souks to the local malls. In almost all photos, my various travel outfits and accessories were purchased from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I’ve loved all about Dubai Mall; it was like another world where possible to do many best things besides shopping.

I purchased a local SIM from the airport to use all smart facilities during my trip. Getting around Dubai is much easy and safe for cool apps and city services. Many smart travel apps will make your life easy in Dubai. For quick transportations, you can use Careem, Uber, Dubai Metro, and RTA apps. The Dubai Mall app is a must to use to explore this gorgeous and largest shopping mall in the perfect way. The Entertainer is one of the best coupon apps for getting all special offers. I even enjoyed using the VOX Cinemas app for the current update of all movies running in Dubai, cool right for movie lovers?

For moving around Dubai, I took the RTA taxi service and was lucky to get almost all tourist places completely for me for the low season. There were less traffic and fewer peoples on the road. All the popular public places were practically empty, and photography was fun facing the iconic Dubai landmarks. All the beaches were not overcrowded and booking any tours was comfortable, the price was reasonable.

My hearty thanks to Mohammed from Bangladesh, who guided me three days in Dubai with an RTA taxi. It was safe and great to explore all the best places in Dubai plus got to know all the good things about this most-visited emirate in the UAE.

Bur Dubai, Dubai Creek, Deira, Al Souk Al Kabir, Dubai Mall

The first day I mainly kept for Old Dubai and took an  abra ride across Dubai Creek , which connects Deira and Bur Dubai. The traditional boat is locally known as ‘abra’. It is convenient to travel from Bur Dubai to Deira or vice versa by boat. I had a walking tour around Bur Dubai, Meena Bazaar, and Deira. For authentic shopping, many old souks or traditional markets are Old Dubai’s best places.  Roaming around old towns Deira and Bur Dubai will give you unique experiences. You’ll see all the old-styled buildings and souks.

Abra ride across Dubai Creek

Al Souk Al Kabir is also known as Meena Bazaar. The oldest area in Dubai but now more famous as a budget shopping destination where many shops sell products from 1$-10$, and bargaining is a must. A little fancy shopping is fun from the Meena Bazaar. You can taste the variety of Asian dishes from many South Asian restaurants in the area. Dubai Museum and Al Fahidi Fort are two of the popular tourist attractions in Al Souk Al Kabir.

If you’re looking for traditional outfits, Textile Souk is best to explore in Bur Dubai. You’ll like to purchase various Pakistani and Indian salwar suits from those souks. There is also one beautiful Iranian Mosque in Bur Dubai and free to visit.

Spice Souk and Gold Souk are must-visit in Deira. Tax-free jewelry shopping is fun from the famous Gold Souk or Gold Souq in Dubai. Whatever you’ll buy will get back the tax amount from the Dubai Airport before leaving Dubai. I purchased one dainty gold chain from one gold souk, also exchanged one of my old earrings. Najmat Taiba, the world’s most massive gold ring, is one of the top attractions in Deira, which has showcased in one souk for everyone to see.

In the evening, I visited the world’s second-largest Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai. Fashion Avenue Dubai Mall is 12 km away from Bur Dubai and was surprised to see how vast is this mall. It is not possible to explore all things in a few hours. The interior is so gorgeous and one of the best entertainment destinations in Dubai. You can also get many exclusive offers from different outlets in the mall.

World’s second largest Dubai Mall in UAE

Every year many tourists visit Dubai Mall for the world’s tallest iconic landmark Burj Khalifa. You can also get the top view of Bur Al Khalifa from the beautiful Promenade of the Dubai Mall. No entry ticket is required to explore all the free things in the mall. I spent some of best hours and also enjoyed the fantastic  Dubai Fountain Show on the Promenade ,  and it is free for all.

Dubai Marina, Bluewaters Island, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach, Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

On the second day you can explore Dubai Marina and the artificial Palm Jumeirah Island on foot or by taxi. A walking tour is best here to visit many popular tourists spot, and the entrance is free.  Dubai Marina Walk  will give you the best view of Dubai’s iconic 90 degrees twisted building Cayan Tower or Infinity Tower. And then  walk along the Palm Jumeirah Promenade , this area popular among tourists for long boardwalk with the skyline view and the sea breeze.

The roadside beauty of Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah Island is the best in Dubai. You’ll get a close view of the big wheel of Ain Dubai in Bluewaters Island. Car driving is also fun while enjoying the remote view of the blue sea waters, and these are all Dubai’s artificial islands.

I enjoyed a 1.5-hour  speedboat tour around Dubai Marina, Atlantis The Palm, and Burj Al Arab . It was an excellent experience and booked this tour online with GetYourGuide. Such kind of yacht tour starts from Dubai Marina Pier 7, and you can also directly buy the ticket from the counter. Waitrose Supermarket Chain is also located here and is best to visit for fresh produce and other shopping or to spend the fun time.

You’ll get some fantastic close photos facing the world’s luxurious, iconic hotel Atlantis The Palm and Burj Al Arab from Palm Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim 3 Area. By taxi, I took a quick entry to visit the famous Golden Horses of the Al Qasr Madinat Jumeirah, the luxury resort in Dubai. On the way, you’ll also find Dubai Zabeel Palace, the ruler of Dubai Palace, but tourists are only allowed to take photos from the outside.

Many public beaches are there on Jumeirah Beach Road. Jumeirah Beach  is the popular one for watching the sunset and swimming even at night. The best part is to enjoy the best view of the famous Jumeirah Beach and Burj Al Arab Hotel. However, I kept another day visiting all the calm beaches in Dubai.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary  in Dubai is best to visit in winter for watching many pink flamingos and other migrating birds. The entrance is free for all.

Fashion Avenue Dubai Mall, Dubai Mall Promenade, Dubai Mall Waterfall, Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, At The Top of Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountain Boardwalk

The third day had the ultimate fun in Downtown Dubai. It was astonishing to do many exciting things inside the massive Dubai Mall.  Dubai Mall Waterfall is free for all, and it is so creatively beautiful. You can directly get a ticket for the entrance of the world’s most massive Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo . All aged people will be surprised to explore 48 meters long Dubai Aquarium Tunnel, which is the home to more than 300 different species.

Dubai is too gorgeous at night and was excited to see the  best Dubai panoramic view at the top of Burj Khalifa . Moreover, a tour in Dubai is incomplete without exploring the tallest Burj Al Khalifa. The iconic Burj Khalifa is one of the best places to visit in Dubai, and you’ve to take the entrance from the Fashion Avenue Dubai Mall.

At the Top tickets, counters are located on the lower ground level of the Dubai Mall, but you’ve to get tickets online. I purchased At the Top SKY, Burj Khalifa & Dubai Fountain Boardwalk ticket, and explored during the sunset and night hour. Burj Khalifa SKY is the world’s highest outdoor observatory deck including 125 and 148 levels of Burj Khalifa.

How about enjoying the ultimate fun time at the Waterfront Promenade of Dubai Mall ? You’ll love the entire area for the Burj Al Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. The big heart-shaped Love Me sculpture has also been placed at the Dubai Mall Promenade. Souk Al Bahar Bridge is the top spot among tourists where you can get the best view of the Waterfront Promenade.

I enjoyed the fountain show at night from the  Dubai Fountain Boardwalk , a 272 meters long floating bridge located on the Fountain Lake or Burj Al Khalifa Lake. A traditional abra ride is another fun activity on the lake.

City Centre Al Shindagha, Al Awir Desert Safari Camp Site

The fourth day was for the desert safari tour in Al Awir Desert Safari Camp Site. In the morning hour had some shopping from local stores in the Al Souk Al Kabir neighborhood and at the City Centre Al Shindagha. It’s a famous local shopping center beside Carrefour supermarket in Bur Dubai, where you can enjoy quality shopping at a reasonable price. I liked to shop from Brands For Less at Shindagha and took one Lee LaCroix Handbag. Later that stylish handbag (in the photo) became one of the  best travel bags  to carry the rest of my Dubai and Abu Dhabi tours.

Sea view from the rooftop of Ramada Abu Dhabi Corniche Hotel

A  Desert safari tour in Dubai is best for dune bashing and Arabian hospitality in the desert camp. I went for a group tour with Unique Tours, and they picked me in the afternoon from the hotel. We enjoyed an adventurous desert safari in a Land Cruiser before the sunset hour. The entire desert safari was exciting and one of the top things to do in Dubai.

The highlighted activities were camel ride, henna for women, smoking shisha, snacks with cold drinks, live performances of Belly Dance, Fire Dance, and Tanoura Dance. The tour ends up at night after the BBQ dinner. The whole atmosphere of the camp was very relaxing and pleasant.

Palm Jumeirah Monorail, JBR Beach, Kite Beach, Al Mamzar Beach Park, Last Exit Al Khawaneej, Quranic Park, VOX Cinemas

On the fifth day just from curiosity, I wanted to enjoy a scenic Palm Jumeirah Monorail ride , which runs down the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah Island. The 3 miles long journey to the Aquaventure Waterpark of the Atlantis The Palm was relaxing. A round trip will cost you 30 AED. I loved the coastline view from the monorail. For visiting the watermark, you have to prebook tickets.

You can have the  ultimate fun in the Dubai beaches .  All white sandy beaches are very nicely maintained by the beach authorities and safe to visit. They have all the standard facilities and are also family-friendly. Almost all beaches are best for swimming and have a changing room.

Kite Beach is best for kitesurfing and located in Umm Al Sheif Area. The Jumeirah Beach Residence or JBR Beach is open for all to visit and one of the popular ones in the residential area.

Sharjah skyline view from Al Mamzar Beach, which is located close to the border of Dubai Sharjah, is fascinating.  Al Mamzar Beach Park is not free to visit. On the way to Al Mamzar Beach Residential Area, you’ll find some of the beautiful spots to photograph facing Burj Al Khalifa.

Al Khawaneej is just 29 km away from Dubai city and best to explore Last Exit Dubai, the popular Street food truck park. The entire rustic theme park has become famous for the Love Locks or Promise Bridge, which is free to visit.

Last Exit Dubai Love Locks Bridge

The newly opened educational Quranic Park  is also worth visiting in Al Khawaneej for a better understanding of the Islamic heritage based on the Holy Quran. You can get free entry here.

You may also watch movies in VOX Cinemas at the City Centre Al Shindagha. After a long, I watched one Bollywood movie from VOX Cinemas, and it was safe to go for a night show even alone. I found Bur Dubai is secure and so moving around the nearby area at night was not risky.

Queen Elizabeth 2, Jumeirah Mosque, La Mer Beach, Atlantis The Palm Helipad, Dubai Frame, Arabian Tea House Restaurant & Cafe

On the sixth day, my solo trip to Dubai started knowing about Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel for the first time. It is an iconic floating hotel on the docks of Port Rashid Marina in Dubai. Like other iconic hotels in Dubai, Elizabeth 2 has become a popular attraction for taking photos.

A  culture trip to the iconic Jumeirah Mosque will give you the chance to learn Islam and the custom and culture of the Emirate.

La Mer Beach in Jumeirah 1 is one of the coolest decorated ones in Dubai. Moving around the beach area in the evening is more popular among tourists. It has all the modern facilities with cute cafes and a waterpark.

I enjoyed 12 minutes  helicopter tour in Dubai from the Helipad of Atlantis The Palm . It was one of the thrilling experiences to admire the extreme beauty of the Palm Islands from the sky. The cost was 649 AED per person with Alpha Tours and maintained all safety regulations.

Skydive from the Burj Al Khalifa will also give you the chance to see the Palm Islands. First, I wanted to go for afternoon tea at Burj Al Arab for the view of the Palm but later changed my mind and instead enjoyed a helicopter flight.

The entrance ticket is a must to visit the most substantial frame in the world, Dubai Frame. It is 150 meters long and located in Zabeel Park. The new and old Dubai landmarks are possible to view from the top of the Dubai Frame.

Arabian Tea House is Dubai’s first authentic Emirati restaurant to try various Arabian food in a traditional atmosphere. I had the delicious BBQ dish Samak Mashwi and Moroccan Iced Tea with Mint from Arabian Tea House Restaurant & Cafe located in Al Bastakiya historian neighborhood. This beautifully decorated oldest restaurant was built in 1997 and still provides the best service and carries Dubai’s old heritage values.

Global Village Dubai, Dubai Miracle Garden

On the seventh day, I left Dubai in the morning by taxi for four days city tour in Abu Dhabi . On the way to Abu Dhabi, we were passing by the Global Village Dubai and Dubai Miracle Garden. These two top places in Dubai remained close in the summer for rejuvenation if you’re traveling between October to April worth visiting during your Dubai trip.

You can see now there are many best places to visit in Dubai. Besides all the mentioned activities you can do many other things during your visit. You’ll love to roam in Dubai and have things to do on your own. Dubai is the fastest-growing city in the world, and every time you travel will find something new to explore. Next, I wish to visit Dubai during the winter. Isn’t it worth revisiting?

Some Money-Saving Tips For Dubai Trip

Interestingly Dubai is not all about luxury; you’ll find many  top free things to do in Dubai .  So, it is possible to visit Dubai even on a budget. The following money-saving tips will help you to do so.

  • Renting apartments is the best option to stay for a long time in Dubai. Otherwise better to stay in the Old Dubai around Bur Dubai and Deira areas. You’ll find many standard budget hotels also safe.
  • Moving around by public transports like bus and metro and they provide all the standard services and fully air-conditioned. In Old Dubai, you can take an abra ride (1 AED per person) and enjoy travel like a local.
  • Fly with low-cost carrier Fly Dubai and save a significant amount in flight booking.
  • Need a pre-booking at least three months prior to the flights and hotels if you’re traveling to Dubai in the peak season to avoid the rush and extra costs.
  • Visit Dubai in the low season to save at least half the cost from all reservations (flights, hotel bookings, and even tour packages).
  • If you’re more comfortable traveling by taxi instead of using Careem and Uber transport apps, go with RTA Taxi Service. It is safe to travel anywhere in the city by Dubai Government Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and the meter starts from only 5 AED. By that, you can save a lot of money on transportation. Careem taxicab service is more prevalent in Dubai than Uber.
  • Enjoy Dubai day tours with Big Bus Tours, it is budget-friendly, and you’ll be able to visit many places within a short time. But such type of tour is more prevalent in Abu Dhabi for less traffic and wide roads.
  • Enjoy a lot of cheap eats yet the yummy Asian food ever from the various Bur Dubai restaurants.
  • Have all the fun in the Dubai public beaches; all are free for the tourists.
  • Luxurious Dubai Mall is not all about shopping you can be able to do plenty of free things inside the mall and the famous Promenade of the Mall.
  • Keep an eye on special offers while shopping from the big malls. You can get exclusive deals from many brand outlets during the festive time. Summer sales are best to enjoy a lot of shopping, even in the low season.
  • Use The Entertainer money-saving app and get many discounts offers on restaurants, hotels, travel, beauty center, and shopping in Dubai.
  • Furthermore, visit Dubai between January and February if shopping is all you want to enjoy during your stay. You can have great fun shopping with great deals from the biggest Dubai Shopping Festival event.

For anyone who has apprehensions about taking a solo trip, I hope my reasons will convince them for sure.

1. I Didn’t Feel Like An Outsider

taking a solo trip

Dubai is was a place where I found people from all walks of life. So, blending in was easy for me. Locals were friendly and helpful. There was one of the instances where I was having difficulty with traffic rules and crossing roads, but locals came forward for my help. It is one of those destinations where you are treated with the utmost respect at public places like restaurants, supermarkets, and even the hotel I was staying at. It is absolutely safe for solo travelers.

2. It Was Safe For A Solo Female Traveler Like Me

exploring the best attractions

Dubai is one of the few destinations where I could roam around the city freely without any worry in the world. It is a kind of place where I found fellow travelers from all around the world. Unlike offbeat places where tourism has not flourished yet, I did not have a problem getting around or finding accommodation. However, I would suggest female travelers that they dress modestly as skirts and shorts are frowned upon in Dubai.

3. Shopping

cruise view

If one thing that most girls love it’s shopping. Dubai is a paradise for shopaholics for there are so many things to bring back as a souvenir. You will end up with one extra bag full of your shopping treats by the end of your trip. It’s guaranteed. I didn’t shop much but if you are planning a trip, there are a few things you should buy. Gold Souk is a traditional gold market where you will find tons of jewelry shops. Apart from that, what you can buy is perfumes, dry fruits, and dates which are kind of a specialty in Emirates. Camel milk chocolate is another unique thing to buy in Dubai. My personal tip: explore Meena Bazaar for the ultimate shopping experience.

4. Getting Around Was Easy

hopping the citytour

Dubai is a developed Emirate. The infrastructure is fully developed. The public transport network is strong and cheap. So, getting around in the city was not much of a hassle for me. I didn’t have to travel large distances to explore the most beautiful attractions in the city. There are just so many places to visit in the UAE and the transport made it all possible.

5. Food Was Not A Problem

Dhow cruise dinner

One of the grievances that travelers have to deal with is not finding food suitable to their palate. I faced no such difficulty in Dubai. In fact, there were restaurants for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians of various nationalities. So, I had a wide variety of options to choose from. There were myriad Indian restaurants too that never made me homesick for Indian flavors. I absolutely loved Chicken Shawarma. It was nothing like you get in India. However, I found some places a bit expensive, but Meen Bazar had some outlets that served food at a reasonable cost.

6. Holiday On A Budget

ticket to the burj khalifa

For me, I had a planned budget for my Dubai vacation and to my delight, I was able to explore Dubai and have fun under my budget. The key is to plan well. I planned my trip and thanks to TravelTrinagle, I was able to not only get a quote under my budget but was also able to get all the customizations done in my itinerary.

Some More Tips For Fellow Travelers

  • Dubai is a hot place. So, it is indispensable to keep yourself hydrated at all times. Carry enough water and energy drinks with you.
  • Carry a first-aid kit and have all basic medicine with you because pharmaceutical products in Dubai are expensive.
  • Dress modestly, especially when you are visiting a religious place like a mosque. Refrain from wearing skirts and shorts as it is frowned upon their culture. You would anyway won’t be allowed to enter inside if your clothes are showing skin.
  • Do not consume alcohol before going to public places. It is not allowed.
  • Wear light cotton clothes throughout your trip as it gets hot in Dubai.

Taking a Solo Trip to Dubai: Top 4 Tips You Need to Know

Dubai is hands down one of the most popular travel destinations in the Middle East; however, taking a solo trip to Dubai may be a bit challenging. You see, Dubai isn’t always promoted as a solo travel destination, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go on your own. You can still enjoy Dubai as a solo traveler, and I’m here to tell you all about pulling it off.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I will earn a small commission if you purchase through my link at no extra cost to you. Please see  full disclosure  for more information.

What’s challenging about taking a solo trip to Dubai?

For starters, Dubai is a very pricey destination, and travel already tends to be more expensive for solo travelers than for those who travel in groups. So, traveling to a luxury destination like Dubai, if you don’t have the budget for it, is definitely challenging.

Another thing is that Dubai mostly revolves around group activities. There’s not much to see as much as there is to experience. We’re talking about activities like going to the beach, partying, eating out, and things of that sort. So, if you have trouble enjoying your own company, we might have an issue.

How to make the best of your solo trip to Dubai?

Don’t fret! Yes, Dubai might not seem like the number 1 solo travel destination or your obvious choice, but it’s definitely doable if it’s on your list. Here’s how!

#1 Try to travel on a budget

Skip the queue at Burj Khalifa to travel to Dubai on a budget

As I previously mentioned, Dubai is significantly expensive, so it’s considered more of a luxury destination. Hence, by “traveling on a budget”, I don’t mean traveling on a tight budget – I meant setting a budget limit for yourself.

How to set a budget for your trip? Do some research and decide on a reasonable total amount of money you’re willing to dedicate to your solo trip to Dubai. Then, start allocating your budget to different areas of spending (i.e. flights, accommodation, internal transportation, food, activities, etc.)

How to stick to your budget? That’s the tricky part since you’re traveling to a destination that’s already pricey. The biggest two bulks in any trip’s budget are flights and accommodation. To save on flights, try to book as early as possible and do plenty of research to land the best deals. As for accommodation, the type of lodging, the star rating of a hotel, and the location, all play a major role in setting the price per night. To learn more about how you can save money on your trip, make sure to check out my Dubai money-saving tips .

#2 Look up other travelers and expats

solo travel group dubai

Remember when I told you Dubai is an activity-centric destination and that many of these activities are better enjoyed with some company? Lucky for you, Dubai is also a melting pot of expats and a very popular tourist destination. That means that there are lots of foreigners out there looking to meet other people, just like you.

The easiest two ways to meet other travelers, in my opinion, if you’re not staying in a hostel , are Facebook travel communities and Bumble BFF . But bear in mind that most expats are usually looking for other expats or more long-term friends since they’re new to the city and starting a new life there, so that’s a great option for digital nomads. However, if you’re only visiting and staying there for a few days, you may find other travelers going on vacation like you, but try to start looking before your trip.

#3 Focus on experiences

From my visit to Hatta on my solo trip to Dubai

Not all activities in Dubai are group activities. There are plenty of other activities that are perfect for a solo trip to Dubai. For instance, the Emirati travel destination is extremely popular for skydiving. There are also lots of similar bucket-list-worthy activities that you can find on Airbnb Experiences, Tinggly , Viator , or Klook .

Check out my recommendations below:

  • Try parasailing in Jumeirah beach
  • Try flyboarding
  • Join a half-day Hatta tour
  • Enjoy aerial views from a helicopter
  • Have dinner in the sky
  • Go on an Emirati food tour

#4 Learn to enjoy your own company

From my solo trip to Dubai

There’s a fine line between being alone and feeling lonely, and this is one of the most challenging aspects of solo traveling, in general. Many people feel intimidated by the idea just because of their fear of loneliness. So, to really enjoy your solo trip to Dubai, you need to master the art of enjoying your own company, whether you opt for solo or group activities.

Where to stay in dubai as a solo traveller.

One thing’s for sure, there is an abundance of hotels for solo travellers in Dubai. First step in choosing where to stay is to pick which area you want to base yourself, then choose your budget and you’ll be able to pick the perfect hotel.

Things to do in Dubai alone: Jumeirah Beach Hotel

Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai is the central business district of Dubai and home to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Located on the southern shore of the Dubai Creek, Downtown is a mix of high-rise commercial buildings, luxury hotels and apartments, and shopping malls.

The area is popular with tourists and expatriates alike and is a great place to people watch, shop or enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants and cafes. There are also several cultural attractions in Downtown Dubai including The Dubai Fountain, Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building) and The Dubai Mall (the world’s largest shopping mall).

My recommendations in Downtown Dubai are:

  • For a bit of luxury – The Address Skyview
  • Middle of the road – Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown
  • To save the pennies – Rove Downtown Dubai

Dubai Marina / Jumeirah Beach Residence

This is my favourite area in Dubai. Dubai Marina is a large man-made marina city, home to luxury yachts and some of the best views in Dubai. Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) is a 1.7km long strip of beachfront apartments, hotels, restaurants and cafes adjacent to the marina.

The area is popular with tourists, expats and locals alike and there is always something going on. From markets and live music to beach yoga and outdoor movies, there is no shortage of activities in Dubai Marina / JBR.

My recommendations in Dubai Marina / JBR are:

  • For a bit of luxury – The Ritz Carlton
  • Middle of the road – Grosvenor House
  • To save the pennies – Wyndham Dubai Marina

Dubai Creek

Dubai Creek is a saltwater creek that runs through the city of Dubai. It divides the city into two main sections – Deira (on the north side) and Bur Dubai (on the south side).

The area around Dubai Creek is one of the oldest parts of the city and is where you’ll find some of Dubai’s most traditional architecture and culture. The area is also home to the Gold Souk, a traditional market where you can haggle for gold jewelry, and the Spice Souk, where you can find every kind of spice imaginable.

My recommendations in Dubai Creek are

  • For a bit of luxury – Park Hyatt Dubai Creek
  • Middle of the road – Golden Sands Hotel Creek
  • To save the pennies – Edge Creekside Hotel

Jumeirah Beach is a long stretch of sandy beach on the southern shore of Dubai. It’s the best place to relax, go for a swim or catch some rays.

The beach is also home to several luxury hotels, including the Burj Al Arab (the world’s only 7-star hotel), as well as a number of restaurants, cafes and bars.

  • For a bit of luxury – Jumeirah Beach Hotel
  • Middle of the road – Rove La Mer Beach
  • To save the pennies – Park Regis Boutique Hotel

And of course, there’s always the Burj Al Arab Hotel if you want to go completely mad and blow the bank!

What to wear in Dubai as a solo female traveller

It can be tricky to know what to wear in Dubai as a female traveller. However, you don’t need to worry about being covered up all the time.

For the most part, you can wear what you like. Most tourists wear shorts and tshirts, sundresses, etc. You can wear bikinis on the beach. There’s no need to cover your shoulders or knees unless you’re visiting a mosque or some shopping malls.

Things to do in Dubai alone: me on a bridge over the Marina

In saying that, it’s important to remember that you’re in a Muslim country and wearing respectful clothing is always appreciated.

During the summer months, it’s HOT and humid. You’ll want light airy clothing. In the winter, it’s still pretty warm but gets a little chilly in the evenings, so you’ll want to bring a cardigan or scarf to keep you warm.

Check out my full packing list for Dubai for more information.

Dubai Marina

This famous man-made marina is located on the Persian Gulf coast of Dubai and home to many luxury yachts, hotels and apartments.

The beautiful waterfront area is teeming with life, from locals and tourists alike. You can stroll along the promenade, stop for a coffee or lunch in one of the many cafes, or simply people watch from one of the benches.

Get a birdseye view from the top of the Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, standing at 830 metres (2,722 feet). Located in downtown Dubai, the Burj Khalifa is the most popular tourist attraction in the city. It’s a great place to visit as a solo traveller, either during the day or at night.

View from top of Burj Khalifa

The normal Burj Khalifa tickets include entry to the 124th and 125th floors, but if you want to include an extra special experience, why not include lunch/dinner at the rooftop Burj Club , or get a ticket which includes entry to the 148th floor ?

Don’t miss out on the view of the Burj Khalifa from the bottom. Especially when it’s lit up at night, it’s the most mesmerising sight.

Explore Dubai Miracle Garden

Dubai Miracle Garden is located in the Dubailand district of Dubai. The garden opened in 2013 and is home to over 50 million flowers and 250 million types of plants, making it the world’s largest natural flower garden.

You’ll be absolutely amazed at the intricate designs and shapes made out of flowers, from hearts and stars, to houses and even an Emirates A380 airplane!

Dubai Miracle Garden

Be sure to get there early and get a picture in the umbrella tunnel – it’s beautiful!

The best time to visit is during the cooler months, from November to February. During this time, the garden is open daily from 9am to 9pm on weekdays and 9am to 11pm on weekends.

Skip the line at Dubai Miracle Garden with this ticket !

Take a day trip to Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, and only a 1-hour drive from Dubai. If you have some extra time while you’re in Dubai, you should consider taking a day trip to Abu Dhabi to explore this fascinating city.

There’s plenty to see and do in Abu Dhabi, from visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque the largest mosque in the country, taking photos of Emirates Palace, and strolling along the famous Corniche.

Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi

If you don’t fancy arranging a trip to Abu Dhabi yourself, I recommend joining this organised tour which includes all transport and entrance fees.

Note: women must be fully covered in loose clothing and hair should be covered to enter the Grand Mosque. Don’t worry if you’re not prepared – you can usually rent an abaya at the entrance.

Wander around The Madinat Jumeirah

This is on of my favourite places to visit alone in Dubai. It’s a stunning resort complex which includes three luxury hotels, over 50 restaurants and bars, a souk (market), theatre, and more.

It’s the perfect place to spend a day or evening alone, as there’s plenty to keep you occupied. You can explore the souk and haggle for some souvenirs, grab a bite to eat or drink at one of the many restaurants, or enjoy a show at the theatre.

Christmas Markets at Madinat Jumeirah

If you’re staying in one of the hotels at the Madinat, you can enjoy free abra boat rides, meandering through the winding waterways around the complex, which is a great way to see everything! If you’re not staying at the resort, you can still pay AED100 to take an abra ride. Or simply stroll around the complex.

I love the traditional Arabian style architecture and the relaxed vibe of this place. It’s definitely worth a visit!

Ride the longest urban zipline over Dubai Marina

Looking for an adrenaline-pumping activity while you’re in Dubai? Then look no further than the XLine Dubai Marina, the world’s longest urban zipline!

Ziplining over Dubai Marina

You’ll start your experience with a short training session before getting suited up in all the safety gear. Then it’s time to zip your way over the stunning Dubai Marina, flying past some of the city’s most iconic skyscrapers

This is an incredible experience and a great way to see Dubai from a different perspective. Just make sure you book your ticket in advance as spaces fill up quickly!

Find out more about my zipline experience here !

Browse the shops at Dubai Mall

If you’re a fan of shopping (or even if you’re not!), then you’ll love Dubai Mall. This is the largest mall in the world, and it’s an impressive feat of architecture.

In addition to being home to over 1,200 stores, Dubai Mall also has an aquarium, ice rink, cinema complex, and much more. You could easily spend a whole day here and not get bored!

If you need a break from all the shopping, I recommend grabbing a coffee at one of the many cafes or restaurants, or taking in the views from the top of the Burj Khalifa.

Getting to the Dubai Mall is super easy too – just hop on the metro and get off at the Dubai Mall stop. Then it’s a 10 minute walk through a bridgeway to the mall.

Experience a Dubai Desert Safari

A Dubai desert safari is a must-do activity when you’re visiting Dubai, and it’s great to do even if you’re travelling solo.

When you join an organised tour, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in a 4×4 vehicle and taken into the desert for a fun-filled day of activities. These usually include dune bashing (a roller coaster ride through the desert!), sandboarding, quad biking.

Dune bashing in Dubai

You’ll also get to watch a stunning sunset over the desert and enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner under the stars. It’s an unforgettable experience!

Camel rides are also part of the experience, but please don’t partake in these. Snap Happy Spoonie doesn’t condone the use of animals for entertainment.

I’ve done numerous desert safaris while living in Dubai and my favourite has to be this one .

Take in the scenery at The View Observation Deck

For incredible city skyline views of Dubai, head to The View Observation Deck on the Palm Jumeirah.

The Palm is a man-made island with a breathtaking palm tree design, and it’s one of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks. The View is located at the top of the tallest building on the Palm.

Things to do in Dubai alone: The view, Palm Jumeirah

You’ll take a high-speed elevator to the deck, which has glass floor to ceiling windows, as well as glass steps to get closer to the edge and get the best pictures. You can see all the way as far as The Atlantis Hotel at the end of the Palm from the observation deck.

I recommend going early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Prebook your tickets here to skip the line.

Be a kid at a water park

Looking for a fun activity to do in Dubai that’s suitable for all ages? then visit one of the city’s many water parks!

My personal favourite is Aquaventure water park, which is located at Atlantis The Palm. This water park has over 100 slides, a wave rider, a zipline, a rapids ride and a private beach.

If you’re an adventure junkie, you’ll have to try the terrifying Leap of Faith, which is basically a 98 feet vertical slide taking you from 0 to 60km/h in 3 seconds!

There are different tickets available – from day passes to super passes and season tickets. Check out the options here !

Go for a dip at Kite Beach

Kite Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Dubai, and it’s easy to see why. This beach has everything you could want, from stunning ocean views to plenty of activities to keep you entertained.

Kayaking at Kite Beach

You can either stroll along the 2 kilometer beach, admire the views of the Burj Al Arab and grab a snack at one of the stalls along the way, or get active and rent a paddle board or kayak, go for a run along the jogging track or even join in with the skaters at the skate park!

It’s called Kite Beach because it’s a popular spot for kitesurfing, but don’t worry if you’re not a pro – there are plenty of beginner lessons available too.

Treat yourself to a hot air balloon ride

If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience while in Dubai, a hot air balloon ride over the vast desert is a must. And no, this isn’t just for couples!

You’ll be picked up from your hotel early in the morning and driven out into the desert. After a quick safety briefing, you’ll be on your way up into the sky to witness the most incredible sunrise!

Hot air balloon over Dubai Desert

The views are absolutely incredible, and, depending on which tour you book, you’ll even get to enjoy a delicious breakfast after you land before being transferred back to your hotel for a quick nap before heading out to explore again. This is definitely an experience you’ll never forget!

Check out some hot air balloon tickets below.

The Gold & Spice Souks are two of the most popular souks (markets) in Dubai, and they’re located just next to each other in Deira

The Gold Souk is a dazzling display of glitz and glamour, with a huge array of gold shops selling everything from gold coins to jewelry. It’s incredible to see so much gold in one place! If you have any gold you want to sell, this is the place to get it valued.

Spice Souk Dubai

The Spice Souk is also a must-visit, especially if you love the smell of spices. This market is full of colourful stalls selling all kinds of spices, from turmeric to saffron. You can even buy mixed spice blends to take home with you.

Be sure to haggle for the best prices at both markets – it’s all part of the fun!

Things to do alone in Dubai at night

Be wowed by the dubai fountains.

The Dubai fountains are a must-see, especially if you’re visiting Dubai for the first time. These spectacular fountains are located at the base of the Burj Khalifa.

This choreographed fountain show takes place every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm when they dance to music and shoot water up to 150 meters in the air, accompanied by colourful lights. It’s truly a sight to behold!

Dubai Fountains

My favourite place to see the show is from one of the restaurants in Souk Al Bahar (there’s nothing like a glass of wine to make the fountains even more spectacular!).

If you want to get up close and personal with the fountains, you can even take a boat ride on the lake . This is definitely the best place to see the show.

See the world at Global Village

Global Village is a must-visit if you’re in Dubai during the winter months (October to April). This huge outdoor market is like a mini world’s fair, with pavilions representing 90 different countries from all over the globe.

You can wander around the different country pavilions, try traditional foods and shop for souvenirs and even go on a balloon ride. There’s also a main stage with regular cultural performances, from Bollywood dancing to Flamenco shows.

Every Friday and Saturday there’s an incredible fireworks display at 9pm, so make sure you’ll hang around until then.

You can buy skip the line tickets here .

If you want to experience a traditional Arabic dinner, there’s no better way to do it than on a dhow cruise. These wooden boats have been used for centuries by Arabs and are now a popular tourist activity in Dubai.

Dhow Dinner Cruise Dubai

Most traditional wooden dhow cruises include a buffet dinner with both Arabic and international dishes, as well as unlimited soft drinks. You’ll also get to enjoy live entertainment on board, such as belly dancing and Tanoura shows

The best place to see the Dubai skyline is from the water, so a boat tour is a great way to do it. Find out more about tickets here .

For residents of Dubai, solo travel is the best chance to get out of their comfort zones and discover the best destinations from the emirate. On that note, here are some of the best travel destinations where you can make a solo trip from Dubai during private sector holidays in the UAE .

Short solo trips from Dubai

If long-haul flights aren’t your cup of tea, you can always opt for places with shorter direct flights. Here are some solo travel destinations from Dubai that you can reach within five hours and less.

Baku, Azerbaijan

Solo travel to Baku has increased in recent years. The exotic capital offers a unique blend of palaces that date back to centuries, unique architecture and historical sites perfect for solo travellers to explore at leisure.

Looking for souvenirs? Visit Old City Baku, your best source of unique trinkets to bring back home. Just make sure what you are legally allowed to take these with you out of the country.

The walled Old City is also a UNESCO heritage site that you can check off your list of places-to-visit-in Baku. The winding streets, museums, mosques and iconic 12 th century Maiden Tower will leave you spellbound. Solo travellers will find the Baku Metro system is the best way to commute in the city.

  • Flight duration: Approximately 3 hours

Yerevan, Armenia

A city that has a history dating back to the eighth century, Yerevan is another place independent travellers from Dubai can visit on their own. A walking tour is enough for those who want to absorb the Armenian capital’s culture — as it is home to popular landmarks like the famous Cascade Complex and Blue Mosque.

If you love all things art, this is the perfect travel destination for you. You can get authentic pieces of art for a good price at the Yerevan Vernissage open-air market near the Republic Square metro. The place is known for its variety of traditional Armenian artwork in the form of wood carvings, rugs, paintings and more.

Solo travellers who have never visited Yerevan, but want to experience everything that makes it great, can take advantage of the Yerevan Card. This is an official city pass which, apart from offering free transport and other privileges, gives visitors the chance to visit some of the city’s attractions for free.

Istanbul, Turkey

English-speaking locals are easy to find in Istanbul, making it a good proposition for independent globe-trotters from Dubai. Apart from Turkish and English, French is also spoken here. The city is an attraction in itself which is apparent from the architecture to the cuisine and cultural sites. Offering a unique blend of the East and West, Istanbul is a good option for a first-time solo trip from Dubai.

Single travellers who have experienced Turkish hammams in Dubai can get the real deal in Istanbul. And the best place for them is in Sultanahmet. For good cheap eats, head to Ortakoy, a lively waterfront square where you can listen to an impromptu concert, munch on kumpir or sip tea on a café’s terrace.

  • Flight duration: Approximately 5 hours

Bucharest, Romania

Another popular destination for a solo trip from Dubai, Bucharest the Romanian capital, has everything you can want from a city escape. Art enthusiasts are sure to appreciate the nouveau buildings and diverse architecture that hark back to French designs. Let’s just say that you will finally know why Bucharest is called the “Paris of the East” once you get there.

Getting around the city is a breeze thanks to an efficient metro system. For those Insta-worthy moments, a visit to popular landmarks — like the Palace of Parliament and the famous Arch of Triumph — is a good idea. History buffs can also add a visit to Revolution Square, the site of the 1989 Romanian Revolution.

Solo trips from Dubai with flights over 5 hours

Long flights can be worth it as long as they are taking you to places you have always wanted to visit alone.

Helsinki, Finland

The capital of Finland is a good way to experience the country at its best. Popular landmarks and attractions that you can visit during a trip here include The Church in the Rock and the Lutheran Cathedral. Apart from landmarks, Suomenlinna Island is another must-visit. This is an island fortress that holds a pivotal position in the country’s history and features some great cafes where you can kick back after a day of sightseeing.

Hotels in Helsinki might be a bit on the pricey side but their prime location at the city centre makes the city’s attractions accessible for guests. Public transport here is a single-ticket programme that covers trams, the metro, trains and the Suomenlinna ferry. You can also rent bicycles all over Helsinki, which most find is the best way to see the city on a solo trip.

  • Flight duration: Approximately 6 hours

Bangkok, Thailand

Is this is your first time touring alone? For the ultimate solo trip, visit Bangkok. From exceptional food to a slew of shopping options, there is something for everyone in the city. Plus, Thailand is known for being a tourist-friendly country which means, apart from Thai, English is widely spoken there. Bangkok also has a large English-speaking expat community, so you won’t have trouble asking for directions if you happen to get lost on your solo tour.

In addition to exciting tourist hubs, the city is a haven for foodies. Apart from regular Thai fare, Bangkok also specialises in other Asian cuisines like Chinese and Laotian options.

Bratislava, Slovakia

Another European destination for a solo trip from Dubai is Bratislava. The Slovakian capital is nicknamed Beauty on the Danube for good reason. The city is located on the banks of the Danube which is aptly also called the “river of kings” considering that it was the best way for kings and queens to travel. To know what that might have been like, we recommend booking a cruise on the famous river.

Finding affordable single-bed accommodations near the city centre is easy if you know where to go. Most hotels in Bratislava are located on the right bank of the Danube. Apart from the taxi service, the public transport service is another good way to get around. As for interesting landmarks, there is Devin Castle and the St. Martin Cathedral.

Kiev, Ukraine

Travellers who have always wanted to visit Ukraine can start their solo trip with a visit to Kiev. Ukraine’s capital is one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe and has a lot to offer single travellers. The city is referred to as the City of Golden Domes, which is a nod to the many monuments and temples present here. Some of the many unique landmarks you can visit are Saint Sophia’s Cathedral, Kiev Pechersk Lavra, the Golden Gate of Kiev and the Mariyinsky Palace.

To make the most of your travels, book your flights to Kiev from May to July or during September. After landing at Boryspil International Airport, it will take you about an hour or so to reach the main city. The best time to visit Kiev is from May to July and during September as winters can get too chilly and summers too uncomfortable.

Prague, Czech Republic

If you can’t get a direct flight from Dubai to Florence, Prague is the next best option. The Czechoslovakian capital rivals the Italian city when it comes to the stunning natural beauty with a history going back a millennium. To catch up on the culture, visit the National Museum, preferably on the first Monday of the month since admission is free of charge then.

Old Town Square is also a must-visit for any tourist on an unaccompanied trip to Prague. Tucked amongst the colourful buildings are some designer shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries. To squeeze in as many tours as you can during your trip, consider purchasing a Prague Card. Short-term validity can be from 2 to 4 days depending on your preferences. Plus, the card also offers free entry to 60 of the city’s top attractions in addition to a free river cruise and sightseeing bus tour.

10 Tips for Solo Female Travel in Dubai

08/19/2021 by Guest Blogger 1 Comment

This guest post is by Monica Chapon, a California-based desert enthusiast.

Exploring the Middle East can often feel intimidating for travelers, and even more so for solo women.

While I personally love to travel throughout this region, I can certainly understand the hesitancy! This is a very misunderstood part of the world, and it isn’t always portrayed as very “female friendly.”

But if you are dreaming of sweeping orange dunes, spice-filled souks, intricately decorated mosques, and a glimpse into Muslim culture, then Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is the perfect place to dip your toes.

The UAE is a small country with a strong religious foundation. Islamic law dictates day-to-day life and traditions in this neighbor to Saudi Arabia. Honestly, it’s quite beautiful.

After an oil boom, Dubai quickly went from a “small town” in the desert to the now-glittering hub that we see today.

Solo female travel in the Dubai desert.

Because of these fast changes, Dubai is truly a city of duality. Each time I visit, I find myself pondering the juxtaposition of towering, record-breaking skyscrapers just minutes away from hand-built, rustic camel farms in the sand.

While the UAE is one of the safest countries in the world to visit, its religious roots and rapid modernization mean that not everyone who lives and works there is accustomed to seeing a solo female traveler.

So, while I highly recommend the UAE as a great place for women who travel alone, it is not without some challenges. Below are my best insights for women traveling solo in Dubai.

Solo Female Travel in Dubai

Burj Khalifa - travel in Dubai.

1. Crime rates are super low.

First and foremost, know that the crime rates in Dubai are very low. Theft and violent crimes are extremely rare. In fact, the rates in the UAE are light-years better than my home country, the United States.

As such, I have never felt unsafe here in terms of crime. I’ve never had any items stolen, and I’ve never felt in danger of any type of attack. (For better or for worse, CCTV is common in downtown Dubai.)

As a solo woman in Dubai, rest assured that you are in a country where the laws are taken very seriously.

2. But you will be stared at.

Realize that while most people will not harass you in any way, you are a bit of an anomaly. Though solo female travel is not a new concept in the Western world, it is still somewhat “new” in this region.

The majority of stares you receive are simply out of curiosity. People will wonder why you are alone or where you are going, and some will just be intrigued about how “different” you may look.

Most men will look away quickly once you return their gaze, proving that it was harmless. But if anyone tries to hold your eye or use it as a reason to approach you, be cautious. Trust your gut. Balance courtesy with caution.

3. Women’s places at school, home, and work differ from those in the West.

It is worth highlighting a bit about women’s roles in Emirati society.

Schools and universities are segregated by gender, though more women attend college than their male counterparts do.

However, the vast majority of women do not enter the workforce and instead opt for marriage and raising children. The Emirati women you do see in the workforce will typically be employed in education, health, and government services. I do see a lot of expat women in the workforce, too.

While I don’t know how much of that is choice and how much is societal expectations, I will say that UAE society places a high value on those roles.

There is no denying that patriarchal ideology is still visible in UAE life, but I do applaud the small strides that the country has taken in recent years.

4. Dubai is a melting pot.

Over 80% of the population in the UAE is made up of expats, and the vast majority of them live in Dubai. Here you will find everyone, from Indians to Pakistanis to Lebanese to Canadians — and everything in between.

Dubai is a true melting pot. It is a colorful blend of many different cultures, living and working in various industries and making a life on this small piece of the Arabian Peninsula.

solo travel group dubai

5. It can cost much less than you think.

You are probably familiar with Dubai’s reputation for riches.

The Burj Al-Arab hotel has a glamorous Royal Suite that goes for $24,000 USD per night. The city built several manmade islands in the shape of palm trees. And there is even an ATM in nearby Abu Dhabi where users can withdraw solid gold . Solid gold!

So, it’s not really surprising that I am often asked how I can afford to stay there.

Luckily, these extreme cases — while plentiful — are not the norm. It’s pretty easy to find hotels and guesthouses for under $40 USD per night. And decent ones, too! Comfortable beds, Wi-Fi, a kitchen, and a washing machine can be included for that price.

I recommend checking in the Deira and Al-Barsha areas for these deals, though I’ve frequently found them in the Marina as well.

Additionally, hostels have started to crop up in Dubai. This was not a thing when I first traveled there seven years ago. With the cultural expectations demanded of men and women, this was not a sleeping arrangement that was “allowed.” Nowadays, it’s an option. (Note that in more conservative areas, like Sharjah, this will likely still not be the case).

Avoid the large and expensive restaurants and opt for tasty, authentic food stalls instead. Falafel sandwiches, fresh-squeezed juices, and aromatic Indian dishes can be had on the cheap.

First Name:

6. You have a lot of transportation options.

In Dubai, there are a lot of ways for solo women to get around.

The metro system is cheap, clean, and on time, in my experience. Uber operates in Dubai, too. And it is possible to hire private drivers, though this will be the more expensive route.

Yes, women can drive and rent a car in the UAE. It will be no problem to do so. However, traffic can be intense in the city, and there are crazy drivers here, just like everywhere else!

One unique transportation option in Dubai is women-only pink taxicabs . If you are feeling particularly nervous, these would be a great way for a solo woman to travel around Dubai. Look for the telltale pink rooftops that indicate “women only.”

Be mindful of how you dress during solo female travel in Dubai. Long pants, loose shirt.

7. Be mindful of how you dress.

In Dubai, you will see a lot of variation in the way that women dress.

Local women typically wear a long black dress called an abaya and a head covering called a hijab. It is not uncommon to see even more conservative dress, such as a full burka, covering women’s entire body except for the eyes. (In contrast, men wear a long white kandoura.)

But you will also see tourists showing cleavage and midriffs, wearing short-shorts, and ultimately dressing like they are in laid-back Bali rather than conservative Dubai.

While you might get away with it, I would strongly caution solo women not to dress this way in Dubai. At the very least, you will be inviting a lot of unwanted attention and certainly offending local sentiments.

Instead, your Dubai packing list should include items like loose palazzo pants, flowy kimonos, and scarves (which will be needed to cover your head when entering mosques). A good rule of thumb is to cover the shoulders, elbows, knees, and head.

8. You may need to work harder to get off the grid.

When I first traveled to the UAE, my goal was to spend most of my time deep in the desert, near the Saudi border, exploring and camping in this beautiful landscape.

Spoiler alert: I did make that happen! And I have done the same thing on almost every subsequent visit.

However, it did take a lot of persistence.

Solo women will have no issues getting around Dubai. But if you are trying to get to the far corners of the country, you will probably run into some issues.

In Islamic culture, it is not common or accepted for a man to be alone with a woman that he is not related to or married to. So it took a lot of persistence for me to find a driver who would do this.

Solo female travel in the Dubai desert.

9. Be aware of local laws.

This is something travelers should do regardless of their destination, and solo female travelers in Dubai are no exception. This is especially important in the UAE, as it is governed by sharia law, which most Western travelers may not be familiar with.

The rules and laws in the UAE forbid such things as drinking alcohol, using crude language, kissing in public, taking someone’s photo without asking (particularly women), homosexuality, and a long list of other infractions.

A few legal exceptions do exist, like purchasing alcohol at larger hotels or establishments. And though Dubai is the most liberal of all seven emirates, I still recommend not testing the waters.

10. Solo women will get a unique perspective.

One benefit of being a woman in Muslim countries is that you will get a unique perspective that your male counterparts cannot.

Men are typically not able to interact in any way with local women they are not related to. But as a woman, you will be able to approach other women, speak with them about the area, or ask them for help if you need assistance.

One of the experiences I value most in traveling is to get to know local people and customs, so this is one of my favorite benefits of solo female travel in Dubai.

It’s a great place to travel if you want a safe and comfortable crash course in Middle Eastern life. If you go there knowing the benefits and challenges of solo female travel in Dubai, you are more likely to have a fun and successful trip!

Essential Tips To Keep in Mind When Traveling to Dubai as a Woman

Accommodation.

There is no shortage of finding good and comfortable accommodations in Dubai. You get an amazing assortment of choices that suit all types of budgets. However, it is always better to find accommodation in Downtown Dubai, as the place is right in the midst of bustling activities. Also, book your accommodations in advance to avoid any hassles in your trip after you have arrived in Dubai.

Transportation

When traveling to Dubai as a woman, public transportation like taxis, buses, and metros are very safe – but there aren’t many running late nights.

Renting a car or taxi rides are good options to explore the city. Always make note of the taxi agency’s name, taxi number, and the driver’s contact number – which can come in handy during your travels. Women can also choose pink colored taxies for their travels, which are exclusively for women passengers and are driven by women drivers dressed up in Arabian attires.

Etiquette to Follow:

While traveling to Dubai, it definitely comes in handy to keep yourself informed about the etiquettes to be followed in the city so you have a stress-free vacation.  Though UAE is a strict follower of Islamic culture and rules, Dubai is a bit flexible, liberal, and lenient.

Just keep in mind these following points and you are all sorted out for your Dubai solo holiday.

  • Dress appropriately. In Dubai, it is very important to respect the culture. Make sure your fashion sense does not offend the locals. Shoulders and knees should always be covered. When in doubt always carry a cardigan and wear long pants. Swimwear is allowed on the beach, but cover yourself once you are out of the water. Adhere to dress rules of wearing a burqa when you enter a mosque or any religious place.
  • Avoid any kind of public display of affection, as it offends locals and is considered inappropriate behavior in public.
  • Do not drink alcohol in public. If you are keen on drinking alcohol, then choose a hotel with inbuilt bar facility. Also, pay special attention to not eating in public if you are traveling to Dubai in the Ramadan month. Practice common courtesy. A bit of useful Arabic phrases will also come in handy with locals.
  • If you are renting a car, make sure you are thoroughly up-to-speed with the traffic rules of Dubai (no pun intended)- as the city is quite strict. Even as a pedestrian, you should be aware of where to cross the roads.
  • Also, practice common sense. Find information and do some research before visiting Dubai. Be aware of various laws and rules of the city. Respect the culture and try to blend in than stand out of the crowd. Wear sunscreen and airy clothes to get relief from Dubai’s heat. Keep yourself hydrated at all times!
  • Dubai is safe for women – as sexual harassment is a serious offense here and gravely punished by law. But it is always better to stay alert for your own safety. Carry emergency contact numbers. Purchase a local SIM card and download all useful Dubaiapps that can come in handy on your Dubai travel. Make sure you inform your family and friends about your travel plans and give them a detail of your trip itinerary.  Practice protective behaviors and listen to your instincts and intuition. If you feel uncomfortable in a situation, leave the scene and seek a safer place. Always keep some money with you and take care of your belongings, passports, and documents.

Traveling solo as a woman is a great experience. It gives you a feeling of confidence and independence.  Also, you don’t need to wait up for others and explore a place as per your wish.

So ladies, give it a try, let Dubai be your choice of destination for your next solo traveling experience!
