23. Palo Alto Falls

Located within the 200-hectare Palo Alto Leisure and Residential Estates , the 60-foot Palo Alto Falls is another cascade destination to add to your list of attractions near Manila.

Managed by the Sta. Lucia Land, the falls area is open to the public. At the entrance, you will have to take more than 200 steps to reach the falls. The cascade’s water basin, bordered with cemented boulders and stones, serves as a swimming area, with another pool right below it.

Location: Palo Alto Leisure and Residential Estates, Barangay Pinugay, Baras, Rizal Opening Hours: 9:00AM-5:00PM (Monday-Sunday). The opening hours might change without prior notice, so please check again before visiting. Entrance Fee: P100/head Other Fees: P400 (Table and Chairs); P700 Cottage

24. Blanco Family Art Museum

Jose “Pitok” V. Blanco is the godson and prodigy of the late national artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco. Together with his equally talented wife Loreto “Loring” Perez-Blanco and their seven children, they formed the illustrious Family of Painters , whose works celebrate Filipino culture, history, and traditions.

After their family exhibit at the National Museum in 1978, the family decided to make their paintings accessible to the public. It was first established in 1980, but the actual museum was launched in 1990. It houses a huge collection of the Blanco family’s masterpieces.

TANAY RIZAL DAY TOUR

TANAY RIZAL DAY TOUR DESTINATIONS:

Tanay Rizal is one of the best day trip destinations from the metro. It’s only 2 hours away and so it’s very accessible. The best part is, it only cost us less than Php 1,000. Here are the places included in our trip.

1. Treasure Mountain 2. Kawa Bath 3. Calinawan Cave 4. Daranak Falls 5. Pililla Windmill

They say that everyone needs someone who will call and say: “ Get dressed, we’re going on an adventure “. That is so true and I am happy I have an amazing squad who also loves adventures. So, when one of my friends asked who wanted to join her Tanay day tour, I was one of those who said, “ Count me in “. 😂 Certified lakwatsera here. 😎

The original plan was to visit Treasure Mountain alone, but since we found out that there are also other places in Rizal that we can visit in just 1 day, we came up with a Tanay day tour itinerary. We decided to go with a travel tour package we found on Facebook amounting to Php 999 each.

TREASURE MOUNTAIN

Sea of Clouds – this is the main reason why I wanted to visit Treasure mountain. Unluckily, we weren’t able to witness it, but we did enjoy the sunrise and the pictures-view of the mountain top.

Treasure Mountain

KAWA HOT BATH

I always wanted to go to Antique so I could experience Kawa Bath, good thing they already have it in Rizal.

Read here to know more about it and the rates: El Patio Razon Kawa Bath, Tanay Rizal | Travel Guide

kawa bath

CALINAWAN CAVE

We already tried Lumiang Sumaguing Cave Connection in Sagada, but Calinawan Cave is a different experience. We were amazed by the stalagmites, stalactites, and different rock formations inside the cave. This is also where they shot some of the scenes in La Luna Sangre, Bagani, Ang Probinsyano, and a lot more.

TANAY RIZAL DAY TOUR

DARANAK FALLS

Our next stop is Daranak falls. Swimming time it is. I wasn’t able to get a picture of the falls because I got excited and went swimming right away. Plus, there are a lot of people when we visit. We have the option to go to Bagtag Falls(private falls) but we opted to stay in Daranak Falls.

PILILLA WINDMILL

I never thought I could see windmills near the Metro, aside from the famous windmills in Ilocos and Guimaras. 😍

TANAY RIZAL DAY TOUR

Tanay Rizal Day Tour Itinerary:

3:00 AM : Pick up at Mcdo Quezon Ave. 4:30 AM: ETD Treasure Mountain 5:00 AM – 7:00 AM: Registration, Chasing Sea of Clouds, Picture taking 7:30 AM : ETA Kawa Hot Bath 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM – ETD Kawa Hot Bath, Picture taking 10:15 AM : ETA Calinawan Cave 11:30 AM – ETD Calinawan Cave 12:30 AM – Lunch 1:00 PM – ETA Daranak Falls 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM: ETD Daranak Falls, swimming, picture taking 3:10 PM: ETA Windmill 4:30 PM: ETD Windmill, sightseeing, picture taking 5:30 PM: ETD Manila 7:30 PM: ETA Manila

How to get to Tanay, Rizal

From EDSA, it takes about 2 hours to get to Tanay, Rizal.

  • From EDSA Shaw, head to the terminal in front of Starmall and ride a van to Tanay (P70 per person). Alternatively, you may also ride a jeep (about P50 per person).

How to get around

If you know your way around Tanay, you can commute via jeepney to your destination. You can also charter a tricycle for the tour. Head to the public market or supermarket and look for the tricycle lines. However, it may be challenging to find a driver that will take you to different destinations especially since some of them are quite far (e.g., Pililla Windmills is not part of Tanay, but Pililla municipality).

So for me, the best way to explore different destinations in Tanay is by private car.

Budget and expenses

Here are the current rates of the destinations:

  • Calinawan Cave : Entrance fee – P20 per person / Guide fee – P200
  • Daranak Falls : Entrance fee – P50 per person, kids below 3 feet are free of charge / Picnic shed – P300/picnic table – P200
  • Batlag Falls : Entrance fee – P100 per person / Picnic table – P250
  • Treasure Mountain : Entrance fee – P150 per person
  • El Patio Razon : Entrance fee – P120 per person / kawa hot bath – P300 per person/hour
  • Pilillia Windmills ,  Regina Rica : None

There are also travel agencies offering convenient day trips in Tanay for around P999 per person which is for me the best way and hassle fee.

Traveling doesn’t always have to be expensive. Sometimes all you need to have is a will and great friends. 😘

Rizal Day Tour: 5th Year Anniversary in Treasure Mountain, El Patio Razon & Art Sector

Overnight camping would have been a good experience in Rizal Province, but knowing my strict parents, I have no choice but to settle on a Rizal Day Tour for Paul and I’s 5th Anniversary. It was still fun, though, a little fast-paced due to our limited time, but it was a lovely celebration. We visited Treasure Mountain and El Patio Razon in Tanay, Rizal then ended the night in the new overlooking restaurant in Binangonan, Rizal – Art Sector.

We were both from Rizal Province and have been to a lot of Rizal famous destinations, one place at a time. This trip was our first time doing a fully-packed Rizal day tour trip. So if you’re from outside Rizal, here’s how we maximized our whole day to see some of Rizal’s hidden gems.

A Car on the road going to Tanay Rizal

HOW TO GO TO TANAY, RIZAL

Via Private transportation:

Paul and I already met at around 9:30 AM in Sta Lucia East Mall along Marcos Highway in Cainta, Rizal. We drove to Tanay via Marcos Highway, following Waze’s instructions. Treasure Mountain and El Patio Razon are just 5-minutes away from each other, so it is recommended to drop by the other if you’re visiting one of them. Since it was a weekday when we went, there was no traffic, and our drive went smoothly and fast. We passed by Masungi Georeserve before we saw the Treasure Mountain signage along the road.

P.S. There’s no internet signal on most of Marcos Highway after Antipolo, so better search for the place when you’re still in the city area.

Double P.S. The road to Treasure Mountain is still not fully cemented, so if you have a low-bumper sedan car, it will be hard for you.

Via Public transportation:

Ride a van or jeepney (P24) to Cogeo Gate 2 in Araneta Gateway Terminal. From Gate 2, ride a jeepney (P45) bound to Sampaloc, Tanay, and get off at Sitio Maysawa waiting shed. This place is also the jump-off place for the Maysawa Circuit hike. From there, you can either hike 45-minutes to Treasure Mountain or ride a habal-habal (P50) to bring you up. As long as you have ridden a jeepney to Sampaloc, Tanay, don’t be shy to tell the driver to drop you in Treasure Mountain.

MORNINGS IN TREASURE MOUNTAIN

Aerial shot of Treasure Mountain camping site

Treasure Mountain is known as the mountain with a summit-like view without the hardships of hiking. It is also a famous camping site in Tanay where if you’re lucky, you can witness a beautiful sea of clouds early morning. We arrived at lunchtime already, with the sun shining high, so I’m not really expecting a sea of clouds view. Maybe someday when I go back for camping.

The Treasure Mountain signage in Maysawa Road

In Maysawa Road, there’s a Treasure Mountain signage in a big gate. From the entrance, we still drove in a muddy road for almost 10 minutes up to the parking and registration booth. There were just three other cars parked, but the motorbikes were more than ten. The sun was up high, but it was chilly because of the strong winds. We paid the P150 day tour fee, and the receptionist stamped their logo on our wrists.

It was already nearing lunchtime, so we decided to eat first. Just near the registration booth was the canteen that sells various meals that I didn’t expect due to its location. It was a little pricey, but that’s something we can expect on somehow remote tourist spots like this.

The canteen in Treasure Mountain

After lunch, we walked to their viewpoint that I mistakenly thought was a chapel first due to the cross on top. It turned out to be just a camping site as well for those who prefer to camp under a roof. The viewpoint has different levels where you can set-up your tents overlooking the mountains of Sierra Madre. We sat by the benches around, took some photos and video clips, then absorbed the beautiful view.

Treasure Mountain is the perfect camping site for the first-timers who don’t have any clue on the hows yet. Or for people who prefer to camp in comfort. It is an enclosed safe place, there are restrooms too, and most of all there’s a canteen where you can just buy food. I tried camping before in Kalanggaman Island and, by experience, found it hard due to the bathroom and cooking restraints and hassles. So when I saw the camping situation here in Treasure Mountain, I would definitely go back for overnight camping.

The place is gorgeous and would have been more if we experience it on a sunrise.

BALI FEELS IN EL PATIO RAZON

Just a few minutes away from Treasure Mountain is the Bali-inspired resort of El Patio Razon. We paid P80 for the entrance fee, and there’s nothing much to do but to take photos and the famous Kawa Bath. The mountain view in Treasure Mountain was a lot more gorgeous, but given my aesthetic self, I enjoyed the Bali-inspired photo spots. It was perfect for that anniversary photo!

There were four photo spots you can take your Instagram photos on. But aside from it, El Patio is also famous for the Kawa Bath with a view for P300. We planned to try it, but we didn’t anticipate how cold the wind would be on a February afternoon. We will try again next time when we go back for Treasure Mountain or other resorts in Maysawa.

Couple in a circle Bali-inspired nest in El Patio Razon Tanay

We explored the place a little more and most of the visitors are couples like us. There’s no lunch available here so it’s better to go on an afternoon and they only have one cottage where you can hang out. They have one huge cabin that you can rent which for me is not worth it due to the limited view and activities you can do. They also have a mini flower farm and a Hobbit house on the other side of the resort.

Ending the day in Art Sector

One thing we loved doing during our anniversary is to end the night in an overlooking bar or restaurant. It’s a ritual that we committed since our first anniversary in Bayleaf Intramuros . So when I saw this newest overlooking restaurant in Rizal, I instantly reserved it for our 5th anniversary to take a break from building views in the city.

We arrived just in time for sunset and the cold breeze of Tanay mountains were gone once we set foot in the town of Binangonan. Art Sector was an hour drive away from Maysawa and the traffic had already built up in the town proper.

The restaurant is a screaming Pinto Art Museum the moment you entered. We went on a Wednesday and the place was still crowded. The caretaker told us that during weekends there were lines outside. Wow. We paid the P100 entrance fee and searched for an empty table near the window.

Art Sector as seen from the main road of the subdivision

There were many empty tables despite the crowd. It seemed like other guests had just paid the entrance, took some photos, and sat by the sofas around the place and rooftop. We decided to hang out by the rooftop as well to watch the sunset first before we eat. We talked about how our province continues to amaze us and planned to really explore more of it this year. We talked until the sun was gone in the view of Laguna de Bay and the buildings of Manila.

By dinner, we ordered a pizza and a pasta for sharing that costed us around P700+. The food was below average for our taste. The pasta lacked flavor, while the pasta’s dough has a floury and starchy taste. Most of their bar menu as well were unavailable. We hope they improve their food and their limited menu.

the crowd in Art Sector Rizal

We still enjoyed the view here though despite their lack in food and service area. The twinkling city lights made our dinner romantic and just the right place to end our anniversary. The place as well just opened so I really hope they improve on it especially with the entrance fee that they imposed.

Treasure Mountain

Treasure Mountain Complete Guide (Itinerary + Tips)

Introduction.

Treasure Mountain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tanay, Rizal. It is located in Sitio Maysawa, Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal. Treasure Mountain has an elevation of 505 meters above sea level. The place is well known for its magnificent sea of clouds and a superb view of the Sierra Madre mountain ranges. Officially known as Treasure Mountain Educational Campsite, this large private property offers an ideal place for a quick weekend vacation and for a quick escape from the busy city life. Treasure Mountain was opened in the year 2017.

According to locals, the mountain was named as such because it purposely aims to give the visitors or guests the lasting experience and moments that they will treasure endlessly. Nothing beats an adventure spent with people you treasure the most. Moreover, Treasure Mountain aims to create your own beautiful story. Unfolding each day into a moment that can never be truly described. The name may be common yet its true intention exceeds what may seem conventional. A place where wonderful creations seem effortlessly within reach.

Treasure Mountain is best for unwinding because the place is peaceful and calm. It is highly recommended for those who want to witness the sea of clouds, stunning sunrise and to those who want to experience a different nightlife by gazing at the sky full of stars. Moreover, it’s just a couple of hours away from Metro Manila and is very accessible by private vehicles.

Treasure Mountain has an effortless sea of clouds. There’s no need to do a taxing hike that people normally go through to witness breathtaking views. Moreover, even if someone doesn’t get to experience the sea of clouds, the place offers an amazing view of nature and different activities for relaxation. Moreover, it’s an awesome place to connect and bring us closer to nature. This place is perfect for camping and being with your kids, families, friends, groups, and loved ones.

Treasure Mountain activities include Spiders Web high ropes obstacle course, the whole course, and the High Swing. Also, they offer biking activities, waterfall chasing, overnight camping, and car glamping activity.

My trip to Treasure Mountain

The thought of going to someplace I’ve never been before had pushed me into an utmost excitement. Also, I’ve been wanting to experience the sea of clouds without going too far away from Manila. So I searched on the internet to find where I can witness the sea of clouds and I found one which is Treasure Mountain. As a result, I joined an organized tour going to Treasure Mountain. The tour package was 599 pesos excluding all entrance fees but I didn’t care about the cost because that is also for my health benefit.

I left my house and rode a taxi at 2:35 am. After several minutes I arrived at our meetup place in Greenfield, Mandaluyong. We are eight members in the group. When all the members of the group had been picked up, we headed to our tour destination.

After one hour and ten minutes of land travel, we arrived at the highway near Treasure Mountain around 4:15 am. Then our coordinator said to us that the Treasure Mountain is still closed and will be open at 5 am. As a result, some of the members slept in the van while other members drank coffee at the small store beside the highway.

jump off point

Then after some thirty minutes of waiting, our van entered the road going to Treasure Mountain jump-off point. After a few minutes, we reached the jump-off point. We paid the registration fee to our guide and we waited for the go signal to start hiking. While waiting, I look up at the night sky filled with countless stars and a bright quarter moon. For this reason, I said to myself truly the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

After the go signal of our guide, we started the hike. We opened our flashlights and we started walking. As I walk I feel my foot getting heavier because of the excessive mud on the road. I didn’t expect that the trail would be so muddy. According to our guide, it rained yesterday so the trail is muddy.

marker of Treasure Mountain

After several minutes of walking, we reached the registration site of Treasure Mountain around 5:47 am. Near the registration site, we saw a restaurant that sells breakfast food. As a result, we had our heavy breakfast. The food is great but a little bit pricey. At the restaurant, we see a sea of clouds, beautiful sunrise, and a calming view of the Sierra Madre Mountain ranges.

Also, I can see the famous Mt. Kulis, Heart Peak of Mt. Kulis, Mt. Gulod, and the Laiban trilogy. In my opinion, this is one of the best places to have breakfast with the incredible view from the top of the mountain. Our group experienced beautiful scenery. We take our time to relax, unwind, eat our food and take pictures at several instagrammable and picturesque spots. Moreover, the restroom in Treasure Mountain is clean and well maintained.

breakfast at Treasure Mountain

The tourist I spoke to said that he had been here many times but he was still impressed with the place. To be honest, I’m in love at first sight in this place. It’s far from noise and pollution. I have nothing to say but Good morning. The photo speaks for itself. It is a wonderful place with a nice view of nature. Also, I can see some kids with their families, I think it’s a very good place for family outings and bonding.

view of Spider Web high ropes obstacle

After savoring the view at the restaurant, our group walked towards the Spider Web obstacle course. Then after a short walk, we reached the Treasure Mountain view deck. We take pictures and later we go to the Spider Web registration site at 7 am. We pay the fee to begin our Spider Web high ropes obstacle course. Some of the members choose the whole course while some of the members choose only the Spider’s Web.

Spider Web high ropes obstacle course fee

We enjoy the obstacle course and climbing up with the necessary equipment. Our guide took pictures and videos for us. The Spider Web high ropes obstacle course is an electrifying and a thrilling experience for us, especially the high swing.

High Swing at Treasure Mountain

Some members said that the high swing is intoxicating. On the other hand, some members said it was truly satisfying to experience. Also, according to the guide handling the Spider Web obstacle course, a maximum of 10 people at a time should be at the top of the Spider Web to ensure safety. I think the Spider Web is the main highlight of Treasure Mountain. The weather is great and the view at the top of the Spider Web is really amazing. This is one of the most pleasing morning views I had experienced.

After finishing the Treasure Mountain Spider Web high ropes obstacle course around 8:10 am, we relax and take a rest for twenty-five minutes. Then we go to a rock formation just beside the Spider Web. We explore the place, enjoy the fresh air and take selfies, pictures, and videos. The view is spectacular and I feel the serenity and tranquility. I feel like I’m in another country. From the rock formation, I can see Mt. Daraitan. We finished taking pictures at rock formation around 9:13 am.

taking pictures

After that, we went to the large nipa hut. We can see several tents just outside the nipa hut. According to our guide, the rented tent is waterproof, has beddings and is safe. After a few minutes of sharing thoughts and relaxing in the nipa hut, we take group pictures outside the nipa hut and then walk towards the entrance of Treasure Mountain. We take several pictures at the marker then we continue walking toward our next destination which is El Patio Razon. It is 1.5 kilometers away from Treasure Mountain.

Treasure Mountain marker

After twenty-five minutes of trekking, we reached El Patio Razon. We took a quick rest and ate our lunch at El Patio Razon at 10:25 am. I was surprised that the five members of the group, all teachers from Cavite, brought overnight camping food. I should have ordered my lunch but because of the number of dishes and rice they brought, I didn’t order. Therefore, I thank them for the satisfying lunch.

Then after our lunch, we take a long rest. Some members of the group take a nap while our tour guide is playing outstanding guitar. After resting we explored the El Patio Razon. We took pictures at Hobbit House, Bali inspired Bird’s Nest, Heart Bali, Bee Hive Nest, and Stairway to Heaven.

El Patio Razon

After relaxing and unwinding at El Patio Razon, our group decided to go to Lambingan Hills. The other option for a side trip is Sierra Madre Mountain Resort and Hotel but the majority of the group members didn’t like the view so our van heads to Lambingan Hills at 1:14 am.

We reached the parking area at 1:40 pm. It’s good that our van entered the Lambingan Hills parking area because the tour guide told us to walk for thirty minutes in order to reach this place. On the other hand, we think it will take us one hour trekking before we reach Lambingan Hills because most of it is ascending.

Lambingan Hills view

We explored the place, and we ordered soft drinks. Our group had snacks at Lambingan Hills. The hills are full of beautiful plants and the place is so calm and peaceful. Also, there’s a lot of tree swings we can ride on. After that, we continued to take pictures at the top of the hills. We can see Laguna Lake from a distance and some mountains of Rizal from the top. In my own opinion Lambingan Hills is more a relaxing place than El Patio Razon because Lambingan Hills is more spacious and has an astounding view of the surrounding.

We left Lambingan Hills around 5 pm heading back to Manila. I slept in the van and after two hours of land travel, we reached Greenfield at 7:15 pm. I’m so happy and thankful to be part of this trip. The trip is all worth it. Thanks be to God for another unforgettable trip to Rizal province.

Overall my trip to Treasure Mountain sums up by this quote: “Travel opens your heart, broadens your mind, and fills your life with stories to tell.”

Summit of Nagpatong Rock Formation in Tanay, Rizal

Tanay offers a number of beginner-friendly hikes, and one of the best ones include Nagpatong Rock.

Nagpatong Rock features unique rock formations, with two rock towers facing each other. The towers look as if they are made of blocks of rocks piled on top of each other, hence the name “nagpatanong.”

Climbing the summit of Nagpatong Rock takes about 3-4 hours, depending on your pace and the trail condition. During rainy season, expect the path to get muddy so the trek takes a little longer. Once you reach the summit, you’ll be rewarded with a great view of the surrounding mountain forests.

Where to eat and go in Rizal: A day-long tour

NOLISOLI

The province of Rizal has honed many creative minds. It’s the home of virtuosos, many of whom are conferred as National Artists: Vicente Manansala, Carlos “Botong” Francisco, Francisco Coching, Lucio San Pedro, Francisco Feliciano, and Ramon Santos, among many others. With such esteem, it is common for the residents of Rizal, especially those living in the exact birthplaces of the artists, to be asked with the question: What’s in Rizal that makes its people so talented? Is it something in the air? In the homecooked food? On the northern shores of Laguna de Bay? Beneath the slopes of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range?

You can find it out yourself with just a day-long visit to the province—the way we did last week during a tour with San Miguel Purefoods. In just 12 hours or less (with a maximum of four hours travel time in total), you will already have revisited historical places and know information that are enough to make you understand why Rizal is special.

We curated below a compact itinerary, along with an estimated travel time for each destination, to guide you in uncovering the cultural and culinary treasures of Rizal:

Cainta: Aling Kika’s Food Product

101 A Bonifacio Ave., Cainta, Rizal From Manila: 25 minutes

rizal day tour

Often cramped with residents and tourists up to today, Aling Kika’s Food Products is one you and your companions shouldn’t miss. It’s great not only as a pasalubong but also as a travel snack; you’re still starting the day, after all.

Antipolo: Crescent Moon Cafe & Pottery Studio

Sapang Buho Rd. Brgy. Dalig, Antipolo, Rizal From Cainta: 25 minutes

rizal day tour

Make a stop at this restaurant and arts space for an early lunch and tour on how painstaking and relaxing it is to see artisans make pottery.

For the past two decades, Crescent Moon Cafe & Pottery Studio remains as a tourist’s favorite because of its limitless offerings.  But before being popular for its comfort and seasonal food served in a cozy, barn-like edifice, this restaurant was first known as owner Lanelle Fernando’s ceramic home studio and family farm.

A graduate of fine arts from the University of the Philippines, Fernando established her studio in 1981 as restaurants and resorts tap her to make handmade stoneware ceramics.

However, a few years in her growing business, her husband Bey had a kidney failure which prompted him to quit his day job as a lawyer and rest at home. This gave them the idea of pursuing a restaurant business instead. “After all, his next best interest after lawyering was cooking,” Fernando said in an interview.

rizal day tour

Two years after the restaurant’s establishment in 1997, Bey passed away. Fernando continues to manage both the restaurant and the studio along with the help of her two daughters.

The restaurant now serves seasonal and locally sourced (grown just within their area) dishes that vary from rice meals to entrees. There’s the savory fried chicken rubbed with curry leaves they grew just out of their own yard. They also have vegan and vegetarian options, like their alagao appetizers which is just like our usual “wraps” appetizers but with the use of the soft and almost fabric-like alagao leaves.

rizal day tour

Binangonan: Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs

Bilibiran, Binangonan, Rizal From Antipolo: 16 minutes

You’ll need to pass through a man-made cave to see this National Cultural Treasure—unless you prefer to trek. Either way, it’s going to be worth it.

rizal day tour

The petroglyphs found by a 52-year-old Carlos “Botong” Francisco during one Boy Scouts of the Philippines camping trip were discovered to be about 1,000 to 3,000 years old. “It’s actually the oldest form of art in the Philippines,” a National Museum-accredited tour guide told us during our visit.

When Francisco stumbled upon it in March 1965, the whole rock shelter was covered in thick vegetation. It wasn’t until the experts cleared the surface did they see that the drawings were possibly made during the late Neolithic period—a time when the carving tools the “artists” used were emerging.

rizal day tour

The petroglyphs span 63 meters long with 127 found figures that are mostly human-like. “Out of the 127 figures, may 51 distinct figures . Because of this number, the experts suggested that this is made by different individuals. Hindi lang iisang tao at iisang period.”

Angono: Carlos “Botong” Francisco’s Ancestral House

Doña Aurora St., Angono, Rizal From Binangonan: 17 minutes

And speaking of Francisco, your trip to seeking the roots of Rizal’s talented natives wouldn’t be complete if you won’t pay a visit to his ancestral home in Angono.

rizal day tour

Francisco’s home is located at Doña Aurora St. in Brgy. Poblacion Itaas, sandwiched by a number of local galleries and street murals based on Francisco’s paintings, which were intricately carved by Rizal artist Charlie Anorico. It’s a street you’ll spot right away, given that golden busts of Francisco and San Pedro are displayed right upfront—as if they’re welcoming all street passers by.

rizal day tour

The ancestral house is open to anyone at any time of the day, Carlos “Totong” Francisco II told us upon our entrance to the museum. The studio can immediately be spotted, being situated right across the wooden furniture-filled living room.

A bi-level space filled with a drafting table, worn out easels of different sizes, palettes, memorabilias, and awards (including the 1973 National Artist Award) is scattered among the place. There are even photographs of Francisco at work.

“But he doesn’t make his large-scale murals here, of course,” Totong said. His lolo usually goes to the garden or his outdoor studio by Laguna de Bay for his paintings that cannot obviously be enclosed in the comforts of his home.

rizal day tour

Angono: Balaw Balaw Restaurant & Art Gallery

16 Doña Justa Subd. Ph 1, Manila East Highway, Angono, Rizal From Doña Aurora Street: 5 minutes

rizal day tour

By this time, it’s either you have already finished your supposed to be pasalubong of Aling Kika’s bibingka (and probably wishing you bought more) or all the walking and traveling has made you extremely hyped for dinner.

As the last leg of your Rizal day tour, it is only fitting that you finish it in the most exotic way: with food outside your comfort zone. In the restaurant-cum-arts space Balaw Balaw, nothing is ordinary. The most familiar dish you may find there could just be their rice, which is made burong or in a fermented manner. They also have their own version of a boodle fight but served in a huge bilao with 10 or more side dishes ranging from crabs and squid to fried pusit and adobong manok .

rizal day tour

Balaw Balaw began serving their exotic takes on staple Filipino food in 1983 after founder Perdigon Vocalan saw his painting studio (which can still be seen at the first floor of the bi-level nipa hut-style restaurant) growing. It was named after one of their specialties: a rice composed of fermented shrimp dish made with bagoong or shrimp paste and red yeast rice angkak.

After a surely filling dinner at Balaw Balaw, head to your cars and sit back. It’s going to be one long ride to the ever busy (and congested) Manila but at least Rizal’s magic has somehow freshened a part of you, whether it’s through the food or the artworks you witnessed today.

Madonna’s Celebration Tour pulls record 1.6M fans into the groove at Rio’s Copacabana

More than a million music fans gathered at Brazil’s iconic Copacabana beach to prove their love to Madonna over the weekend.

The “Get into the Groove” and “Vogue” pop diva concluded her career-spanning Celebration Tour with a bang over the weekend, treating fans in Rio de Janeiro to a free beach concert on Saturday. “This really happened,” the singer reminisced in an Instagram video shared Sunday.

The Instagram clip shows an aerial view of attendees assembling on the sandy Brazilian strip, which stretches more than 2 miles along the coast. While some fans danced on the beach, others hosted house parties in nearby beachfront apartments and hotels, the Associated Press reported.

Madonna’s Celebration tour is a messy victory lap that needs more razzle-dazzle

Madonna brought her career-spanning Celebration tour to the Kia Forum for a night of hits, memories and grievances.

March 5, 2024

“This place is magic,” the 65-year-old singing icon said during her show, which also featured appearances from Brazilian artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar.

An estimated 1.6 million people gathered for Madonna’s Celebration Tour finale, Brazilian outlet G1 reported, citing Rio City Hall’s tourism agency. The event was also broadcast on Brazilian network TV Globo. Even before a million-plus fans descended on Copacabana over the weekend, Madonna announced in late March that her send-off would be her “biggest gig yet.”

“The show will be free of charge as a thank you to her fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour,” her website said.

Saturday’s concert broke Madge’s personal attendance record — 130,000 fans at Paris’ Parc des Sceaux in 1987 — by more than tenfold. Madonna also bested the record previously held by the Rolling Stones’ 2006 Copacabana concert , which drew 1.5 million people.

‘No Madonna fan’ should expect a Madonna show to start on time. So says Team Madonna

Madonna’s legal team submits a dismissal request in a class-action case about her concert tardiness, contending that a two-hour delay didn’t injure ticketholders.

April 5, 2024

” @Madonna makes history in Rio tonight marking the largest ever standalone concert for any artist, with over 1.6 million fans attending as she closes The Celebration Tour,” Live Nation announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

Madonna’s Celebration Tour launched in October, months after she was hospitalized for a bacterial infection last June. The Grammy winner brought her headline-generating tour to Inglewood’s Kia Forum for several nights in March.

Times critic Mikael Wood wrote that the singer’s Celebration Tour “ was curiously short on joy. ”

“A pop concert is a theater of personality and craft, not one of plot or character development,” he added. “But a narrative this messy needed more razzle-dazzle.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

While previous stops on the tour have brought out special guests like FKA Twigs, Ricky Martin and Salma Hayek, it’s not clear who — if anyone — will appear on stage with Madonna tonight. Still, expect an appearance from Bob the Drag Queen (a.k.a. Caldwell Tidicue), who has opened for Madonna on all dates of the global tour.

CEBU CITY, Philippines –  The much-awaited Gabii sa Kabilin (GSK) 2024 offered participants of all ages an immersive experience of Cebu’s vibrant history, which has influenced the identity of its people over the years.

This year’s event, held on Friday, May 10, celebrated the theme “Beloved Bisaya.”

This theme commemorated the 350th death anniversary of Jesuit missionary Fr. Francisco Ignacio Alcina, who affectionately called the Visayans “my beloved Bisaya.”

A total of 22 heritage sites in the cities of Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Talisay took part in the cultural tour this year.

These were classified into five categories:

  • Bisayang Kaisog, highlighting the courage of Visayans
  • Sino Bisaya, showcasing the connection of the Chinese to Visayans
  • Mamugnoong Bisaya, featuring the Visayans’ creaitivity
  • Natural Bisaya, showing the landscape and lifestyle of Visayans
  • Pagtuong Bisaya, focusing on Visayan’s faith

Another choice was the walking tour and tartanilla ride through downtown Cebu City.

After the official opening of Gabii sa Kabilin 2024, everyone dispersed to start their night of cultural celebration.

The first stop on the walking tour and tartanilla route was the Casa Gorordo Museum located at 35 Eduardo Aboitiz Street, Tinago in Cebu City.

The Casa Gorordo Museum is a house-turned-museum built by Alejandro Reynes y Rosales, which housed four generations of the Gorordo family.

Among these is Juan Gorordo, the first Filipino Bishop of Cebu.

Participants of the cultural tour on Friday were given the opportunity to enjoy the special exhibit entitled “Reminders of the Lives Past: Parian in the 1600s.”

Meanwhile, kids had fun participating in a variety of activities at the Kid’s corner set up at the courtyard of the museum.

Many years ago, it was once used as a base of operations by the Jesuit missionaries.

Now, it holds relics, furniture, and memorabilia from that time in history.

Furthermore, a section of the house features an exhibit highlighting the Dioramas of Life of San Pedro Calungsod.
