UWG Campus Tours: Becoming A Student Tour Guide
The University of West Georgia is open for tours this semester and currently offers several ways for incoming students and inquiring families to visit the 645-acre campus. With over 13,000 students enrolled at UWG, the campus tour department offers five different options to view the campus, all of which accommodate those who are considering UWG as their school of choice.
“Students can apply to be a tour guide through UWG’s handshake platform. Students then will be invited to interview with leaders of the visits and events team and current tour guides,” said Sarah Norris, the graduate assistant for visits and events. “This interview will consist of questions pertaining to the job position, then will be asked to lead a mock tour, to current tour guides and staff. Our tour guides also do get paid. They are extremely valued and appreciated in the admissions office & beyond.”
The first tour options available are showcases, where students and families are able to see the campus, meet professors, tour residence halls and learn more about campus life. Students are able to apply and possibly receive acceptance on the spot during showcase tours.
The next tour option is specifically designed for incoming transfer students, where transfer visitors are able to tour the campus, attend informational sessions, meet with admissions representatives and learn about various transfer opportunities. Large groups can also tour the campus. These groups are usually made up of aspiring students, athletic members, youth organizations and K12 classes.
The UWG Newnan campus offers tours, where students and families are able to tour the old Newnan hospital which now serves as a second campus. These tours run every Tuesday and Friday at 2:00 p.m.
The last option is a self-guided tour, available to those who may not be able to attend one of the previously mentioned sessions and prefer to download a self-guided tour map that allows users to view the campus virtually and speak with tour guides online.
“Tour guides get the opportunity to build connections with incoming wolves and their families through showcasing our university and sharing their experiences,” said Norris. “Tour guides additionally get the opportunity to build their resumes through a wide variety of skills such as, communication skills, leadership development, risk management and customer service skills. Additionally, our tour guides build professional relationships and mentors through the admissions staff.”
Becoming a student tour guide at UWG presents many opportunities for students to advance socially and learn more about the campus themselves. As a tour guide, students will meet new people and have a chance to step into a leadership position by organizing tours and educating visitors about the campus building and attractions.

Why Stay West: Resident Testimonials
Being from South Georgia, the University of West Georgia is very far from my hometown. I did not know anyone else that was coming to school here but through the housing portal, I was able to find my roommate. Me and my roommate are very like-minded which has helped my transition into college tremendously. Living in the Oaks is a very central location, I have loved being so close to all of my classes and being able to walk everywhere. Living on campus at UWG has allowed me to make numerous friends and I feel like I have been able to truly blossom here
Living in Arbor View is amazing! The living room is great for hosting movie nights and dinners with my friends. I love having a kitchen to bake and try new recipes. I'm also located right next to my biology classes.
I love that I don't have to drive an hour away for classes.
It's easy and accessible for classes and food.
It feels good to come back to a place that's mine.
I like interacting with my residents.
I love the ease of transportation and being able to walk to class.
My family and I moved on campus to be able to save for our first home. Rent off-campus is high, and moving on-campus allowed us the opportunity to downsize and save. The amenities are great and I hate commutes, so this was perfect!
