Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi how can he shun the responsibility from his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of corruption in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation as BJP shared power with Shiv Sena for 25 years.
"In a bid to target Shiv Sena and make allegations of corruption, PM Modi targeted his own BJP which was in power with the Sena for 25 years. It seems Modiji forgot that whatever has happened in Mumbai, the BJP is equally responsible," said Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole.
Patole said that all the projects for which foundation stone was laid were started during Maha Vikas Aghadi government and not in last six months. "Modiji says that his government gives free ration to 80 crore Indians. How come despite BJP rule, India is witnessing so much of poverty?" Asked Patole.
The Congress leader reminded that PM Modi shared stage with State governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari who has made 'objectionable' comments against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. "Not a single BJP leader felt it was necessary to condemn him. It just shows the level of respect BJP has for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj," he said.

"Our emphasis will be on electric vehicles to curtail pollution. Through water treatment plants, rivers are being cleaned on massive scale," Modi said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that while the world is reeling under economic crisis, India is providing subsidies.
Modi said that Mumbai Metro was running on just an 11 km stretch in 2014, but the Shinde-Fadnavis team has put infrastructure on fast track.

Let them hinder it, and we will continue our work."
"The 350 km Metro mega project was conceptualized and implemented by Devendra Fadnavis as CM in 2014. PM Modi had done its bhoomipujan in 2015. Today, he is dedicating the two Metro lines to Mumbaikars," Shinde further said.

"Modi is visiting Mumbai for a few hours and it is being said that in these few hours, he will lay the foundation for the bright future of Mumbai. But the question is since when did the BJP start worrying about Mumbai's future and fortune? This propaganda that the Prime Minister is incarnating for the bright future of Mumbai is false. PM Modi gifts projects worth Rs 38,000 cr to Mumbai; rides newly-launched metro | WATCH
Pm modi rode metro train after inaugurating mumbai metro rail lines 2a and 7 built at a cost of around rs 12,600 crore. he was seen chatting with metro staff and other co-passengers during his ride on a new track comprising a 35km-long elevated corridor stretching from andheri to dahisar..
35 km-long Metro project
The PM inaugurated Mumbai Metro Rail Lines 2A and 7 built at a cost of around Rs 12,600 crore. They comprise a 35km-long elevated corridor stretching from Andheri to Dahisar in suburban Mumbai. He rode the newly launched metro. PM Modi also inaugurated 20 'Aapla Davakhana' (health clinics) named after Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.
Big push to Maharashtra's infrastructure
The projects gave a big push to infrastructure, urban travel and healthcare ahead of civic polls, where the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena will seek to showcase these ventures to take on the political rivals.
This was Modi's first visit to Mumbai after Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took office in June-end las year after dislodging the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. At the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of development projects at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), both Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis targeted the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction and the MVA government.
Civic elections in Mumbai and some other important cities, including Pune, Thane and Nagpur, are likely to be held later this year.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shinde's faction of the Shiv Sena are looking to wrest control of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from the Thackeray-headed camp.
At a function held at the MMRDA ground in BKC, Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones of a string of projects worth more than Rs 38,000 crore aimed at developing infrastructure, easing urban travel, and strengthening healthcare in the financial capital.
He laid foundation stones for seven sewage treatment plants, a road concretisation project and redevelopment of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
Fadnavis targets MVA government
Earlier in his speech, deputy chief minister Fadnavis said in the 2019 Assembly polls, Modi had urged people to vote for a 'double engine sarkar' (BJP in power in state and the Centre) in Maharashtra. "But due to betrayal of some people, for two-and-a-half years (the tenure of MVA regime) we did not have a pro-people government in the state. But because of true followers of Balasaheb Thackeray, our government is back now," the BJP leader said, apparently referring to Shinde, who revolted against the Shiv Sena leadership in June 2022, leading to collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led government. Modi is the only PM who inaugurated projects whose ground breaking ceremony he had performed, Fadnavis said, adding this reflects beginning of a new culture.
Those who ruled the Mumbai civic body for several years never worked to provide clean water to local residents, he said, targeting the Thackeray-led Sena faction.
Fadnavis also thanked the Centre for providing railway land for re-development of Dharavi, a sprawling slum colony in Mumbai.
Chief Minister Shinde said development took a backseat during the tenure of the MVA administration (November 2019-June 2022).
''We were able to free the people of Mumbai from suffocation under the MVA rule because of Modiji's leadership,'' said the CM. Shinde went on to heap praise on the PM.
"There is something special about Modi's personality. I get a holy (pavitra) feeling," said the chief minister and added the Indian PM was a widely discussed political figure at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos. Shinde was in Davos earlier this week.
The CM said his government will transform Mumbai in the next three years and give a new identity to India's financial capital and also Maharashtra. “Lets pledge to create a new Maharashtra under Modi's leadership,” he said.
The 18.6 km-long Mumbai Metro Rail line 2A connects suburban Dahisar (East) with the 16.5 km-long DN Nagar (yellow line) while the metro line 7 joints Andheri (East) with Dahisar (East). The foundation stones of these lines were laid by PM Modi in 2015.
PM lauches mobile app The prime minister also launched Mumbai 1 mobile app and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).
The app, which can be shown at the entry gates of metro stations, will facilitate ease of travel. It supports digital payment to buy tickets through UPI.
The mobility card will initially be used in metro corridors and can be later extended to other modes of mass public transit, including suburban trains and buses, an official release said.
Commuters will not need to carry multiple cards or cash, it said, adding the NCMC will enable quick, contact-less digital transactions, easing the process with a seamless experience.
The seven sewage treatment plants will be built at a cost of around Rs 17,200 crore and come up at suburban Malad, Bhandup, Versova, Ghatkopar, Bandra, Dharavi and Worli. They will have a combined capacity of around 2,460 MLD, said the release.
In an effort to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Mumbai, the prime minister inaugurated 20 Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana' clinics. The initiative provides essential medical services like health check-ups, medicines, investigations and diagnostics, free to people.
The PM laid the foundation stone for three new hospitals- a 360-bed multi-speciality municipal hospital in Bhandup, a 306-bed facility in Goregaon (West), and a 152-bed maternity home in Oshiwara.
This will benefit lakhs of residents of the city and deliver top-class medical facilities to them, the release added.
The PM launched a road concretisation project worth Rs 6,100 crore for around 400 km of roads in the megapolis.
He also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in south Mumbai.
This project is aimed at decongesting the southern heritage node of the terminus, augmentation of facilities, better multi-modal integration and conserving and restoring the world-famous iconic structure to its past glory, the release said. The redevelopment will cost more than Rs 1,800 crore.
The prime minister also started the transfer of approved loans of more than one lakh beneficiaries under the PM SVANidhi Yojana. (With PTI input)

"Reflection Of Developed India": PM Modi After Atal Setu's Grand Inauguration In Mumbai
"In these 10 years, our nation has witnessed the realisation of its dreams and the transformation of challenges into achievements. Atal Setu is a reflection of this sentiment," he added.
"Atal Setu, a pioneering project that will transform infrastructure in Mumbai," PM Modi said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri - Nhava Sheva Atal Setu on January 12. On Saturday, the Prime Minister shared a video where he highlighted the significance of Atal Setu, also known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL).
Built at a cost of ₹ 17,840 crore, it is the longest sea bridge in the country connecting Sewri in Mumbai and the Nhava Sheva area in Raigad district.
The video posted by PM Modi on X, formerly Twitter, showcases moments from the inauguration event and offers a glimpse of the sea bridge.
"Atal Setu, a pioneering project that will transform infrastructure in Mumbai! Happy to have inaugurated it yesterday," the Prime Minister wrote in the caption.

In the 2-minute clip, PM Modi said in Hindi, "Atal Setu is a reflection of a developed India. It provides a glimpse of the kind of developed India we aspire to become. Atal Setu symbolises the awakening of the ambition that the entire country envisioned in the year 2014."
"Anyone looking at Atal Setu today can proudly say that the number of wires used in it can encircle the entire Earth. They will be pleased that the distance between Mumbai and Raigarh has been significantly reduced. The journey that used to take several hours can now be completed in minutes," PM Modi said.
This extensive Atal Setu will now bring Pune and Goa even closer to Mumbai, he said, adding that it is also proof of his government's commitment that for India's development, "we are ready to confront even the seas, and we can overcome the waves."

After the inauguration, PM Modi travelled to Navi Mumbai Airport in Panvel, via the 21.8 km long sea bridge. Stretching over 16.5 km on the sea and 5.5 km on land, Atal Setu is the longest sea bridge in India.
Atal Setu aims to improve connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, making travel between key locations like Sewri and Nhava Sheva faster, reducing it from two hours to just 20 minutes. This bridge also shortens the route from Mumbai to Pune, Goa and South India.

How Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, India’s longest sea bridge, will ease travel in the megacity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. It will drastically slash the travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to around 20 minutes from about two hours
Now, it will take just 20 minutes to reach from south Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. This has been made possible by the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), India’s longest sea bridge, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (12 January). The bridge will be opened to the public from Saturday.
After inaugurating the Atal Setu, PM Modi visited the gallery to understand more about the bridge, which officially is named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu. He was accompanied by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.
Billed as one of India’s mega transport infrastructure projects, it took almost six decades for MTHL to materialise, noted Indian Express.
Here’s everything to know about the project.
Brief history of the project
The conceptualisation of the project can be traced back to 1963. As per an Indian Express report, it was then that US consultancy firm Wilbur Smith and Associates proposed a bay crossing concept with a bridge linking Greater Mumbai and the mainland.
Later, the Maharashtra government set up committees in 1972 and 1978 to examine the likely alternatives to construct the sea link across the Mumbai Bay. These panels suggested two alternative paths – a northern route connecting Sewri with Nhava and a southern route linking Mumbai’s Colaba with Uran, a coastal town in Navi Mumbai.
A steering group formed in 1981 suggested a northern route connecting Sewri with Nhava after assessing the previous studies, the report added.
The project remained in cold storage for around ten years before being revived by the newly constituted Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in the late 1990s.
Despite several attempts over the years, the project did not kickstart until 2017 when Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA ) adopted the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis model. The authority awarded contracts for the project in November 2017, the newspaper reported.
The deal, under which Japan International Cooperation Agency would pay 80 per cent of the project cost and the remaining funds would be provided by the Centre and the state government, was completed by December 2017. The construction, which was to originally last for 4.5 years, faced delays for about eight months during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per NDTV , around 95 per cent of the construction cwork is complete, but some tasks remains, including road laying, electrical work, and the implementation of an intelligent transport system, which will be finished after the bridge’s inauguration.
All about Mumbai Trans Harbour Link
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 18,000 crore, the MTHL will connect Sewri in Mumbai to Chirle on NH-4B in Navi Mumbai.
According to Indian Express, the distance by road from Sewri to Chirle is 52km, which the new sea bridge will reduce to 21.8 km.
The travel time which is about two hours will be cut down to just 20 minutes. The sea bridge can cater to 70,000 vehicles per day.
A new marvel of connectivity is set to be unveiled! PM Shri @narendramodi will inaugurate the magnificent Atal Setu Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, a 21.8 km long bridge on sea, on 12 January 2024. pic.twitter.com/Fi0ZpEJkgh — BJP (@BJP4India) January 9, 2024
Officially known as Atal Setu Nhava Sheva Sea Link, the six-lane sea bridge is about 22 km long, with 16.50 kilometres of the stretch on the sea and 5.50 kilometres on land, as per PTI .
It is the country’s first sea bridge to have an Open Road Tolling (ORT). Under this, the toll is collected without the use of traditional toll booths. Instead of booths, it has toll plaza which can identify passing vehicles and help with electronic collection of the toll amount.
The state government has fixed a toll charge of Rs 250 per car for a one way trip on the bridge, with regular commuters and pass holders being given a concession option, reported Indian Express.
The bridge is strategically placed to improve connectivity between Navi Mumbai International Airport, the arterial Mumbai-Pune Expressway, JNPT Port and the Mumbai Goa highway, as per Hindustan Times (HT).
Rules for motorists
The Mumbai police issued rules for vehicles running on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link , fixing the maximum speed limit for four-wheelers to 100 kilometres per hour. These vehicles include cars, taxis, light motor vehicles, minibuses and two-axle buses. An official told PTI that their speed will be restricted to 40 kmph on the ascent and descent of the bridge.
The official said the speed limit on the bridge is to curb “danger, obstructions and inconvenience to the public".
Multi-axle heavy vehicles, trucks and buses going towards Mumbai will not be allowed to enter on the Eastern Freeway. Instead, they will have to take the Mumbai Port-Sewri Exit (Exit 1C) and the MBPT Road near ‘Gadi Adda’, reported PTI.
Motorbikes, autorickshaws, mopeds, three-wheelers, autos, tractors, animal-drawn vehicles and slow-moving vehicles are not allowed on the sea bridge.
Why is MTHL significant?
MTHL will alter Mumbai’s travel pattern to east-west from the current north-south, which is a much longer commute, as per Indian Express.
It will not only lessen travel distance and time for commuters but the sea bridge is also expected to facilitate economic development and growth.
Real estate experts believe the bridge could be a game-changer. Gautam Thacker, Chairman NAREDCO Neral-Karjat unit, told Indian Express , “The Mumbai address has changed as a lot of construction has begun in MMR (Mumbai Metropolitan Region). Many homebuyers are showing interest in properties in MMR. With the upcoming MTHL and Navi Mumbai Airport projects, untouched areas will see significant growth. It is a given, that connectivity has a positive impact on real estate development. Micro markets like Ulwe, Panvel, Kharghar among others are seeing growth in real estate pricing, and it will go up further.”

PM’S Itinerary
By Alex Travelli
Alex Travelli, the South Asia business correspondent, has reported from New Delhi since 2013.
As Narendra Modi was storming to victory in the election of 2014, he said that “ acchhe din aane waale hain” — good times are coming.

Now as Mr. Modi stands set to secure another term as prime minister in elections starting on April 19 , the value of India’s stock market has grown threefold since he first took office. India’s economy is almost twice as big as it was.
Stocks have risen so much because the number of Indians with enough wealth and appetite for investment risk has jumped — to nearly 5 percent of the population from barely 2 percent.
But the economic gains have been widely unequal. The bulk of India’s growth depends on those at the top of the income ladder, including a coterie of huge and tightly controlled businesses.
Ninety percent of India’s population of 1.4 billion is estimated to subsist on less than $3,500 a year . Yet in the poorest rural districts, life has been made more bearable by welfare programs that have expanded under Mr. Modi. Many of the benefits are solid and visible: sacks of free grain, toilets, gas cylinders and housing materials. Purely commercial developments have transformed village life: LED lights, cheap smartphones and nearly free mobile data have changed the nature of idle time.
While America was experiencing a “ vibecession ,” feeling glum despite upbeat economic news, India has been doing the opposite. Here many of the signals are mixed — but the vibes are fantastic. International surveys show India’s consumers have become the most upbeat anywhere.
Foreigners are also feeling good about the Modi economy. Banks like Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan Chase are rushing to upgrade India’s weighting in their global stock and bond indexes. Chris Wood, one of the best-regarded market strategists in Asia, warned that if Mr. Modi were not re-elected this year, Indian markets could crash by 25 percent or more.
A strange thing about the spirit of optimism about the Modi economy is that India’s rates of growth over the past 10 years have been very similar to those of the decade that preceded it, under a government that Mr. Modi often blames for wrecking the country.
As real as it is, the Indian economic success story is also an attribute of what could be the singular characteristic of Mr. Modi’s years in the top job: his ability to control all levers of power, with showmanship as the first priority .
Mr. Modi’s face is everywhere, perhaps more present in New Delhi than that of any democratically elected leader in any other capital. In the run-up to the Group of 20 summit last September, his slogans took credit for virtually every positive development that could be found in this inexorably emerging economy.
In the bullish climate surrounding the Indian economy, even the pessimists are optimistic. While official statistics anticipate growth of 7.3 percent in the current fiscal year, most finance professionals in Mumbai peg the figure at 6 to 6.5 percent. The lowest estimate touches 4.5 percent, which would still beat the United States and possibly China.
Expressing even mild skepticism is avoided. Economists who depend on government work must be careful not to speak frankly. Economists who do not work with the government are becoming scarce, as independent think tanks are raided and shuttered.
Message control is much more pronounced than it was under Mr. Modi’s predecessor, the award-winning economist Manmohan Singh. India became known as a “ flailing state ” during Mr. Singh’s time in office, even with growth occasionally hitting the 10 percent mark.
Mr. Modi has been busy remaking the institutions of Indian governance. Political competition has been all but eliminated at the national level, and he has exploited animosity against the country’s Muslim minority of 200 million.
Mr. Modi has also used state power to make things happen in strictly economic affairs, mostly for better though sometimes for worse. Infrastructure is on a tear. There is some overbuilding, but the fact that building gets done is a welcome relief. Welfare programs have become more responsive.
India — especially in banking and business transactions — has made a widespread digital leap . The push began during the previous management of Mr. Singh, but Mr. Modi has run with it. The “India Stack,” a suite of software platforms that runs on the base of Aadhaar, a biometric identification system, means that Indians now have access to faster and cheaper peer-to-peer transactions than Americans.
Taxes have been overhauled. India has driven more of the economy into the formal sector, for instance by enacting a Goods and Services Tax like Europe’s value-added tax, allowing more revenue to be extracted from more people and businesses. That has freed up money for public spending and, by lowering corporate tax rates, private financing.
One minus on the digitization ledger came on Nov. 8, 2016, when at 8 p.m. Mr. Modi abruptly declared that all large currency notes were suddenly worthless. That was supposed to deprive criminals of “black money.” Instead, it crippled economic activity.
There are other ways the Indian government’s power to act decisively and usually without check has created distortions and inequalities. The biggest companies have profited wildly. Of the $1.4 trillion in wealth created by the most prestigious stock index from 2012 to 2022, 80 percent went to 20 companies, Marcellus Investment Managers in Mumbai estimated in 2022. Those companies are the ones that can talk directly to the government.
No one better illustrates the concentration of corporate wealth, and the risks associated with it, than Gautam Adani . Outside India, few knew his name until 2022, when he suddenly appeared on lists as the world’s second-richest person, after Elon Musk.
The flagship stock of Mr. Adani’s conglomerate nearly doubled in the year after Mr. Modi was elected and grew eight times larger after he was re-elected in 2019. The Adani Group became, in effect, a logistics arm of the government, building up ports, highways, bridges and solar farms at speeds never before seen.
Then last year Mr. Adani’s empire was accused of fraud by a New York short-seller, costing Mr. Adani $150 billion on paper. Though Mr. Adani, who denied the claims, has recouped most of the money he lost, the episode exposed a risk in the Modi strategy of allowing the few at the tippy top to amass enormous clout.
Companies aside, on an individual level, India’s recent growth has been uncomfortably unequal. Having the world’s biggest population explains why so many foreign investors are attracted to its consumer market. Most Indians are rural, and 75 percent of them are by most measures poor, qualifying for free food rations intended to prevent malnutrition. Though that warrants some caution, it leaves room for growth.
Sales of luxury goods have been booming, especially since the pandemic, generating yearslong waiting lists for vehicles like the Mercedes G 63. Sales of motorbikes and scooters, which transport far more Indians than all the four-wheeled cars combined, have been stagnant.
The most painful aspect of the economy is the jobs situation. Officially about 7 percent of Indians are unemployed. Vastly more are underemployed. In the past month, Indians desperate to find better incomes abroad have died trying: while crossing the United States’ borders, fighting as underequipped mercenaries for Russia in Ukraine and filling positions left empty by Palestinians forced to stop working in Israel.
And yet, the ascent of India in the world economy seems preordained. It has moved ahead of Britain to become the world’s fifth-largest economy, and it is expected to surpass Japan and Germany to become the world’s third largest within the next few years.
More multinational businesses are expected to flock to India, creating opportunities for Indians. Only a small proportion of consumers can expect to enjoy living standards taken for granted in the United States, but they are becoming more numerous by the year, and can now be found even in small cities.
Red tape remains to impede businesses without connections to the top of government. But the direction of movement is promising: Projects that used to require two years of permission-seeking can now be completed in 15 days.
Along with the acchhe din he promised in 2014, Mr. Modi pledged “minimum government, maximum governance,” sounding like a 1980s America free marketeer. In practice, his economic approach has not been defined by theory or ideology. He has thrown everything against the wall to see what sticks. He has thrown persistently, and with force. When economists talk about India, they have stopped talking about the “flailing state.”

PM Modi to flag off Mumbai Metro lines: 5 things to know about Lines 2A and 7
The two new mumbai metro lines are set to open to the public from 4pm on january 20..
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Maharashtra on Thursday to launch several projects worth around ₹ 38,800 crore. He will also inaugurate two metro lines, estimated to cost around ₹ 12,600 crore, at 6pm today in Mumbai. It is set to open to the public from 4pm on January 20.
The Mumbai Traffic Police has issued an advisory banning heavy vehicles on all roads including Western Express Highway in the Western Suburb from 12pm to 9pm. Four units of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and one unit each of the Anti-Riot Squad and Rapid Action Force have been assigned as part of the security arrangements for Modi’s visit. Police have also restricted flying activities including drones, paragliders, and remote-controlled micro-light aircraft from noon till midnight under the jurisdictions of four police stations, namely BKC, Andheri, Meghwadi, and Jogeshwari.
The PM will also inaugurate the MUMBAI 1 Mobile App and National Common Mobility Card (Mumbai 1) which can be used to buy tickets with UPI at metro station entry gates
5 things to know about Mumbai Metro lines 2A and 7:
1. The Metro line 2A (yellow line) connects Dahisar East and DN Nagar in Andheri West which is around 18.6 km long. The phase II has been extended by 9 km covering 8 stations from Andheri West to Valani. The metro line 7 links Andheri East to Dahisar East which is around 16.5 Km long. Its second phase will have four stations from Goregaon East to Gundavali which will stretch upto 5.2 km. The two Metro lines will have a new interchange station at Gundavali in Andheri East and Andheri West, as per the MMRDA officials.
2. The first metro will leave the Andheri West station at 6 am on Line 2A and the last will be at 9.24 pm. The first metro of Line 7 will start at 5.55 am from Gundavali station and the last one at 9.24 pm. The fare for the ticket is ₹ 10 for 3 km, with an additional charge after 3 km. As per a report, the fare for a distance of 3-12 km will be ₹ 20, ₹ 30 for 12-18 km and ₹ 50 for 24-30 km.
3. Cumulatively, the metro trains of these two lines will run on the 35-km elevated corridor stretch with 22 rakes having 30 elevated stations in total. It is set to run at an average frequency of every 10 minutes, depending on the time of the day.
4. Both these metro lines pass from two important roads in Mumbai, i.e Link Road and Western Express Highway. They are expected to carry three-four lakh passengers on a daily basis, reduce traffic, crowding and decrease the travel time by at least by 30-50 per cent. It aims to serve at least 10 lakh daily commuters by 2031 .
5. The coaches are 85 per cent made in India, built by Bharat Earth Movers Limited. Running at a maximum speed of 70 kmph, the train can carry 2280 passengers and has a capacity of 380 passengers per coach, as per a report in India Today. Female travellers will have a separate coach and each station will have a lady security officer and will also be equipped with CCTV systems. Although initially drivers will be in the coaches, it is designed to be driverless with an ultra modern signalling system. The foundation stone of these lines was laid by PM Modi in 2015.

Break ties in Sangli and fight us, Sena (UBT) chief tells ally, and says his party will take Mumbai North if Cong doesn’t field a candidate

- Uddhav Thackeray has asked the Congress to either back out or break the alliance
- Sena (UBT) has refused to withdraw its candidate from Sangli
- Forcing Congress to dare Thackeray to have a friendly contest there
Unyielding Uddhav Thackeray has asked the Congress to either back out or break the alliance for the contentious Sangli Lok Sabha seat. The Sena (UBT) has refused to withdraw its candidate from Sangli, forcing Congress to dare Thackeray to have a friendly contest there. In Mumbai, the Sena (UBT) president told the ally that he would field his candidate in Mumbai North if the Congress did not take it in addition to Mumbai North Central.

Sena (UBT) president was addressing media persons after inducting the BJP's sitting MP from Jalgaon Unmesh Patil at his Kalanagar residence, Matoshree, on Wednesday. He announced candidates, including two women, for Kalyan, Palghar, Jalgaon and Hatkanagle. Contrary to expectations, Thackeray did not field Unmesh Patil in Jalgaon, but made Patil’s associate Karan Pawar the Sena's contestant against BJP’s Smita Wagh.
Take it or forget it
“We have taken four Mumbai seats . We wish that the Congress contests two seats,” said Thackeray. Mumbai North Central is the second seat on the Sena’s offer list that the Congress is serious about contesting, but it also wants Mumbai South Central instead of Mumbai North, a difficult seat to win, considering the BJP’s track record there. Sena (UBT) has fielded former MP Anil Desai in South Central against Rahul Shewale, the incumbent MP who belongs to its rival party, the Shinde Sena.
Attempting to erase insecurity in the Congress camp , Thackeray said the wave against the ‘dictatorship’ was such that the Opposition parties could win even a difficult seat like Mumbai North. “We have told the Congress about it. Our party leaders and workers will work wholeheartedly for the Congress wherever it contests. But if it doesn’t contest Mumbai North, we will field our candidate,” Thackeray said while appealing to the Congress that it should start working as per the seat distribution of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
‘Break it, contest it’
Thackeray said there were no friendly contests in elections. He was referring to the Congress’ preparedness to field its candidate against Sena (UBT)’s Chandrahar Patil in a ‘friendly’ contest in Sangli. Despite repeated appeals from the Congress, Thackeray has not withdrawn his nominee here. The Sena chief justified the move saying, that he had ceded Kolhapur and Ramtek for the Congress. “There cannot be a friendly fight... ‘friendship todo, fight karo (break friendship and fight)’,” he said, asking the Congress to work for his candidate in Sangli because his party had already begun a campaign there.
‘We give major jolt’
Thackeray terms the induction of BJP’s sitting MP and host of his associates as a major jolt to the BJP. “They say we have received a major jolt whenever someone leaves us. But I say this is a jolt, a major jolt that we have delivered. Unlike those who betrayed us, Patil has truly staged a revolt,” said Thackeray. He said the Sena was known for promoting small party workers. “Similarly, some commoners made it big, but left. I won’t take them back if they want to return,” Thackeray said, commenting on the unrest prevailing in the Shinde Sena camp in view of the BJP's interference.
Appeal to Ambedkar
Thackeray appealed to VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar to avoid undue criticism of the Sena and its leaders. “If we could not get together today, we may come together tomorrow. So, I request him [Ambedkar] to avoid making wild allegations against us. We could have responded to him, but chose not to,” he said about Ambedkar's decision to break ties with the Sena and MVA.
