Best time to visit.

The climate in Malaysia is generally hot and humid throughout the year. Temperatures do not fluctuate much and stay in the 100s F most of the day, dropping back to the mid to high 60s F at night. This makes Malaysia a great place for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing in the sun.

Humidity is higher during the wet season and can be quite oppressive for those not used to it. The wet season changes from coast to coast. From November to April, the wet season hits the east coast of the peninsula and it is dry on the west coast. From May to October, it's dry on the east coast and wet on the west.

Some people of Malaysia observe Ramadan. If you are planning to travel during Ramadan, it is important to consider that some restaurants and shops will either be closed or operating at reduced hours during this time.

Culture and customs

Malaysia truly is a modern melting pot – with Chinese, Indian, Malay, Eurasian and indigenous groups making up the population. With this cultural diversity comes a mix of religions, customs, foods and languages. Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism and Hinduism are the main religions practiced, although most of the world’s religions are represented somewhere in Malaysia. The Muslim call to prayer, Hindu Festivals and Buddhist ceremonies all coexist with relative peace, with the South-East Asian concept of ‘saving face’ leading most people to strive for harmony.

Regardless of cultural background, elderly people and those of high rank in society (business people, government officials etc.) are afforded much respect. Food plays an important part in daily life, with religious celebrations and holidays characterized by family gatherings and elaborately prepared feasts. Alcohol isn’t a large part of Malaysian society (probably due to the significant Muslim population), but is widely available for purchase and consumption. Experience Malaysian culture for yourself on our 18day Ultimate Adventure.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food , savoring a cheap eat or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world. Malaysia’s melting pot of cultural influences is evident in its cuisine.

Things to try in Malaysia

Delicious roti, chicken rice, spicy sambal eggplant and kopi peng (iced coffee).

2. Baba Nonya/Peranaken Cuisine

Fresh spring rolls, babi chin (stewed pork belly) and Mee Siam (rice noodles).

Aromatic curries, cool lassis, delicious daal and sweet fried coconut balls.

Hearty noodle broths, Peking duck pancakes and chrysanthemum tea. Try some of Malaysia's most famous dishes on our 9day Borneo Family Holiday.

Geography and environment

Balmy beaches, fish-filled reefs, wild jungles, verdant highlands, relaxed ports, colorful cities and simple villages – Malaysia has it all. Sharing land borders with Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand , Malaysia’s environment is as diverse as its population. From the urban cityscape of Kuala Lumpur and the colonial charm of Penang, to the old-world streets of Melaka, a journey through Malaysia will reveal changing landscapes and evolving environments.

While the large cities are typically built-up, busy and full of buzz, Malaysia’s provincial towns and remote highlands remain delightfully relaxed, with people living simple lives based on agriculture, animal husbandry or other small enterprises. With such a rich range of environments, Malaysia offers beaches and islands for swimming, snorkeling and diving; jungles and highlands for trekking and adventuring; and villages and cities for exploration and relaxation. Explore this country's breathtaking landscapes on our 8day Highlights of Malaysia tour.

History and government

Early history.

The first recorded historical mentions of Malaysia date back to 7th and 8th-century Sanskrit and Chinese texts. During the following centuries, Malaysia came under the influence and control of Indonesia, Thailand and India – with the accompanying religions, cuisines and languages spreading in the region. In the 16th century, Malaysia came under the influence of Portuguese and Dutch settlers, who increasingly expanded their reach throughout the region to create the Dutch East Indies. Under this influence, Malaysia did well in trade, and flourished as a result of the economic gains of being located on one of the most important trade routes of the time.

Recent history

During the 19th century, the British took control of the Malaysian Peninsula, with the Federated Malay States being officially formed in 1865. Malaysia remained under British rule until Japan invaded during World War II – but once Japan was defeated in 1945, British rule returned and the Federation of Malay was born in 1948. In 1963, the Federation of Malaya formed with Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah to create Malaysia.

Only two years after, Singapore became an independent state, leaving Malaysia in its current form. In the 1970s, Malaysia’s economy grew rapidly until the late 1990s, when the Asian Financial Crisis slowed economic growth in the region. The economy soon recovered, and Malaysia enjoyed the international exposure that came with hosting the 1998 Commonwealth Games (held in Kuala Lumpur). Currently, Malaysian standards of living continue to rise, and Kuala Lumpur has emerged as one of Asia’s premier cities.

Top 10 culinary experiences in Malaysia

1. baba nonya banquet.

2. Savour street eats

The streets of Malaysia are filled with locals pushing street carts selling everything from hand-made roti to fresh fruit, delicious satay and steaming bowls of laksa. Malaysian street food offers convenience, variety and flavor on a budget.

9. Chill out with a coconut

Quench your thirst with a fresh coconut juice. Sold at roadside stalls and on beaches, a straw is simply slipped into a stripped back coconut for a refreshing post-swim pick-me-up.

10. Feast on roti

No visit to Malaysia is complete without encountering roti. Walk down any busy street and the sight of people kneading roti dough at street stalls and shop windows will be common. Often served with lentils, potatoes, onions and rice, roti is an excellent option for vegetarians looking for a meat-free meal.

Malaysia has a shopping experience to suit travelers on all budgets. From dazzling, modern malls and exciting night markets to boutique specialty stores, the opportunity to buy something special is never far away.

It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring certain items back into your home country. Australia and New Zealand generally have strict quarantine laws.

"There is so much to explore in Malaysia, and I'll take you from sharing lunch with a local family in a Kampung Cantik village, to enjoying tea and scones in the emerald valleys of the Cameron Highlands."

Travel Director

Enjoy the fusion of international influences in Malacca

Our Local Specialists will reveal the blend of Malay, British, Dutch and Portuguese influences behind the UNESCO-listed city of Malacca. It was once a vital trading port, and we’ll take you from the Dutch Square to the top of Malacca Hill, then to Kampung Kuli, where you’ll find traditional crafts.

Try local delicacies at Chow Kit Market in Kuala Lumpur

Wander the stalls of Chow Kit Market, the largest wet market in Malaysia. It’s filled with hundreds of shopfronts piled with fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat, and there’s also a dry market where you’ll find clothes and crafts. Our Local Specialists will show you how the locals haggle for their fresh produce.

Visit the Kampung Cantik village

Join a local family for lunch in the village of Kampung Cantik, and take a walk around the village to see the Malacca kampong stilt houses. You’ll discover the friendly culture of the village as you participate in some of their favorite games including silat, an indigenous form of martial arts.

Climb up the rainbow staircase to Batu Caves

The Batu Caves is a popular Tamil shrine and one of Malaysia’s most spectacular sights. You’ll admire a towering golden statue, before ascending 272 rainbow steps up the limestone hill to find a complex of cave temples. We’ll go exploring through the caves, including Temple Cave, where you’ll discover a number of Hindu shrines.

Drive through the Cameron Highlands

We’ll take you on a journey through the magical green valleys and tea plantations of the Cameron Highlands. You’ll see the painted murals and gold Buddha statue of Perak Cave Temple, see the colonial-style town of Ipoh, and enjoy an afternoon tea of scones and local strawberry jam at Tanah Rata.

Our top 5 things to do in Malaysia

Our Malaysia vacation packages take in all the incredible sights of Malaysia, from the cultural fusion of Malacca, to the emerald valleys of the Cameron Highlands.

Orang Asli Museum

The aboriginal Orang Asli people of the Malaysian Peninsula are renowned for their handicrafts and wood carving skills. The Orang Asli Museum in Kuala Lumpur displays their arts and crafts, including the famed wooden carved masks and figures by the Mah Meri and Jah Hut tribes.

Perak Cave Temple

One of the most famous temples in Ipoh, Perak Cave Temple was created in 1926 by a Chinese Buddhist couple. You can climb the staircase into the cave to find a golden Buddha statue surrounded by beautifully painted murals. Continue climbing and you’ll discover a viewpoint with panoramic views across the hills of Ipoh.

Kek Lok Si Temple

The largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, Kek Lok Si Temple towers on a hilltop in Penang. You can explore the temple grounds to find the pagoda, the four heavenly kings pavilion, tranquil gardens and the turtle liberation pond. At the top of the hill, you’ll see the giant statue of the Goddess of Mercy.

What to pack for Malaysia

People packing for a tour

Adaptor plug

In Malaysia the standard voltage is 240 V and the power plugs and sockets are of type G. The standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Comfortable shoes

From climbing Malacca Hill and hiking through forested mountains, to walking the cobbled streets of George Town, you’ll need a reliable pair of walking shoes.

Light modest clothing

Malaysia is hot and humid for most of the year and you’ll need light and loose clothing. It’s also a highly religious country and it’s best to dress modestly with shoulders and thighs covered.

Sunscreen and repellent

Protect yourself from the natural elements of Malaysia with at least SPF 30 sunscreen and a strong DEET insect repellent.

A small travel umbrella will come in handy in Malaysia, from shielding you from the monsoon rains to blocking out the blazing sunshine.

Malaysia is a true mix of ethnicities -- Malays, Chinese, Indians, Nyonya (Straits Chinese of noble descent) and more -- as well as religions, architecture, and cuisines. You'll find both ultra-modern skyscrapers in the capital of Kuala Lumpur (KL) and highly traditional longhouses in the jungle settings of East Malaysia, which occupies about a third of the island of Borneo.

East Malaysia's Sabah is the site of 13,000-foot Mt. Kinabalu, a favorite spot for climbers. West Malaysia, a peninsula just south of  Thailand , is home to KL -- with its nearly 1,500-foot-high Petronas Twin Towers -- as well as the resort island of Penang (known for its food) and the Dutch-influenced town of Malacca. It all makes Malaysia a don't-miss Southeast  Asia  destination.

Beaches in Malaysia

It’s all about beaches in Malaysia. With some of the most exceptional beaches in Southeast Asia, not to mention the world, Malaysia is a sunbathing, snorkeling, diving and beachcombing paradise. Beaches are everywhere in Malaysia, spread out amongst 878 islands and archipelagos, from the most popular - Langkawi and the Perhentians - to off-the-beaten-path beach secrets.

Among the most amazing beaches in Malaysia are:

1. Long Beach, Perhentian Kecil : Known for its incredible turquoise waters and bustling nightlife.

2. Turtle Beach, Perhentian Besar : Swim with turtles and snorkel with reef sharks at one of Malaysia’s favorite island beaches.

3. Coral Beach, Redang Island : Top beach destination in Malaysia for diving and snorkeling.

4. Kapas Island, coast of Marang : One of Malaysia’s secret beaches, perfect for a quiet island vacation and not yet too touristy

5. Monkey Bay Beach, Tioman Island : A frequent stop on a Malaysia snorkeling tour. Guests can also hike here in about an hour from Salang.

6. Pantai Cenang, Langkawi : A busy, yet fantastic Langkawi beach with powder-white sand and an abundance of world travelers

7. Paya Beach, Tioman Island : A great Malaysia beach choice for snorkeling

8. Teluk Belanga Beach, Pangkor Island : Known for its stunning emerald water and quiet surroundings

9. Sipadan Island Beach, Sabah : Known as one of the best scuba diving destinations in the world - look for giant turtles and white-tip sharks

Malaysian Culture

Cultural tourism in Malaysia is intriguing, a melting pot of cultures stemming back to the country’s place on the spice route so long ago.

The people of Malaysia are among its many treasures … delve into the country’ three main races - Malay, Chinese and Indian - and learn about their historical and cultural significance in the region. Plus, you’ll discover the countless other, smaller populations who live in Malaysia, from Kadazan-Dusun to Bidayuh to Nyonya.

Look for small-group Malaysia cultural tours that include visits to some of the following destinations:

1. Batu Caves

Take a tour of 400-million-year-old Hindu temples set in these limestone caves. These temples are among the most visited Hindu shrines outside of India. Don’t miss the 140-foot-high Murugan statue marking the cave entrance.

2. Pinang Peranakan Mansion

Your Malaysia culture tour will likely include a visit to this cultural center, where you can learn all about the Peranakans, well-to-do Chinese traders who settled here. The mansion reflects the architectural style of the region, a blend of Chinese, Malay and colonial British influences.

3. Jonker Street Night Market

Head to Malacca’s Chinatown to tour this lively night market, a highlight of your Malaysia cultural holiday. The sights and smells of the market range from global street food to antiques and souvenirs. Along the way, your Malaysia tour guide will point out various temples and mosques that line the street.

4. Kek Lok Si Temple

Many tour highlighting Malaysian culture will include a visit to this temple, the country’s largest Buddhist complex. Stroll the vast grounds to take in the seven-story pagoda, 10,000 alabaster and bronze Buddha statues, ponds, pools and gardens. One of the best times to visit Kek Lok Si Temple is during Chinese New Year, when thousands of brightly lit hanging lanterns adorn the temple.

5. Langkawi

Beyond its beautiful beaches, Langkawi is a great place to immerse yourself in Malay culture. Small group tours of Langkawi can introduce you to the local islanders, many of whom are fishermen and farmers. Take a driving tour of the countryside and see the paddy fields and meet the villagers out running errands by bicycle. Visit the historic Field of Burnt Rice and learn local folklore at the Gua Cerita, or Cave of Legends.

6. Blue Mansion, George Town

Tour the most-photographed structure in George Town, a 28-room mansion from the 1880s. The blue exterior dates to a time when this color was a hallmark of the town - it’s achieved through an indigo-based limewash. Pay attention to the mansion’s feng shui and uniquely local features and listen to stories of the owner who commissioned the mansion for his seventh wife.

7. Kellie’s Castle, Perak

Look for the ghosts that are said to haunt the hallways of this moderately restored, Gothic- and Moorish-style castle.

8. Sabah Museum

Take a guided tour of Sabah Museum to learn about the area’s indigenous cultures, take a peek at traditional attire and crafts and learn about the customs of the Dusun, Murut, Rungus and Bajau peoples. There are musical instruments to play, embroidery to appreciate and Chinese ceramics dating to AD 1300. Ask your Sabah tour guide about visiting the nearby Heritage Village, where you can see Kadazan bamboo houses and tribal dwellings.

Top Travel Activities in Malaysia

Who are Malaysia tours good for? With a wide range of activities, Malaysia is a favorite for just about anyone. Look for tours that give you plenty of time to explore this fascinating Southeast Asian country, from the beaches to the rain forest to the big city.

The best Malaysia vacations will include several of the following activities in both Western and Eastern Malaysia.

Meeting an Orangutan

Wildlife tours of Malaysia will undoubtedly focus on the delightful orangutan. Visit with orphans at the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, where about 60 to 80 of the primates live at any given time.

Enjoying Beach Time in the Perhentian Islands

Where will you find the most beautiful beaches in Malaysia? Head to the Perhentian Islands for the prettiest beaches and most stunning water and coral reefs. Swim and snorkel with sea turtles and rainbow-hued tropical fish, even small sharks. There are two main islands to tour in the Perhentians: Kecil, the smaller, and Besar, the larger. Both are covered in jungle and hiking trails - no roads, so arrange a Perhentian Island tour to make the most of your visit.

City Time in Kuala Lumpur

Take some time away from the beach to tour Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and home to the impressive Petronas Towers.

Trek in the Rain Forest

Outdoor enthusiasts traveling to Malaysia will enjoy touring Taman Negara National Park, boasting one of the world’s oldest rain forests - some say it’s more than 130 million years old! An abundance of foot trails wind their way through the forest making this a top hiking destination in Malaysia.

Eat in Malaysia

Foodies will love the Malaysian cuisine they’ll encounter throughout their tour. Even the smallest, hole-in-the-wall places dish out the most incredible tastes. Your Malaysia tour guide can point out local favorites. Some of the best Malay cuisine to try includes chicken satay, Char kway teow, laksa and nasi goreng.

Go Diving in Sipadan

Active travel tours in Malaysia may include the option to dive in Sipadan - and if you’re an avid diver, you’ve likely heard of this amazing spot. If you haven’t dived before and would like to learn, this is an incredible place to start. Ask your Malaysia tour operator about diving certification options in Sipadan.

Wildlife in Malaysia

Wildlife tours are popular in Malaysia thanks to the country’s pristine rainforest, home to an incredible array of animal and plant life. From the orangutans and pygmy elephants of Borneo to the sun bear and the Sumatran rhino, there are wildlife wonders waiting to be discovered on your Malaysia wilderness vacation.

Among the best places to see the wildlife of Malaysia are:

1. Danum Valley Conservation Area : Tours of Borneo focusing on wildlife will likely visit the Danum Valley rainforest, considered to be the world’s oldest. Birdwatching tours in Malaysia flock here for the 300 bird species. On the ground, you’ll see orangutan, proboscis monkey, sun bears, clouded leopard and, if you’re lucky, the rare Bornean rhinoceros.

2. Taman Negara National Park : One of the easiest national parks to tour in Malaysia due to its central location, Taman Negara is home to the rare rafflesia, elephants, monkeys and lizards.

3. Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre : Where do you go to see orangutans in Malaysia? Visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to get up close and personal with these adorable, rust-colored creatures. The reserve is home to rescued orangutans, who are taught the skills they’ll need to survive in the wild.

4. Batang Ai National Park : To tour one of the most undisturbed and pristine wildlife areas in Malaysia, visit Batang Ai. The dense rainforest is home to many endangered animals, including wild orangutan, bearded pig, clouded leopard and gibbon.

5. KL Forest Eco Park : Birdwatching tours in Malaysia typically include a visit to this eco park in the middle of Kuala Lumpur. Here in the midst of the urban capital, birdwatchers can see more than 200 species, as well as civet cats and silver leaf monkeys.

6. Langkawi : Diving and snorkeling vacations in Langkawi boast excellent sightings of more than 250 fish species and 50 different types of coral. Most tours center on the main island of Langkawi - Pulau - for its welcoming fishing villages, incredible beaches and abundant marine life.

7. Kinabalu National Park : Visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site in Borneo - Malaysia’s first. It’s one of the world’s most biologically diverse areas, making it a popular stop on a Southeast Asia wildlife tour. Look for 90 different species of mammal, 300 bird species and more than 5,000 species of plants.

8. Royal Belum State Park : Where can you see a sun bear in Malaysia? Will I see a Malayan tiger in Southeast Asia? If you tour Royal Belum State Park, bordering Thailand, it’s likely. Sumatran rhinos, white-handed gibbon join Malayan tiger and Sumatran rhinos as top billers in this remote nature reserve. Birdwatching tours are popular in this area of Malaysia for the more than 300 different species found here, including all of the species of Malaysian hornbill.

9. Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre : Visit with the world’s second-most endangered bear, Malaysia’s sun bear. Watch from two elevated walkways and viewing platforms as the bears climb, cavort and sunbathe.

Souvenirs from Malaysia

Everyone wants to bring home a memento of their Malaysia travels, something to remember their amazing Southeast Asia tour by or as a gift for friends or family.

What kind of souvenirs is Malaysia famous for? Look for one (or five) of the following favorite items to buy in Malaysia:

  • Pewter : The pewter goods found in Malaysia are world renowned, made a metal mixture that is primarily tin. The products made by the Selangor Company are of the highest quality. You’ll find everything from jewelry to tableware that has been handcrafted with incredible detail.
  • Batik fabric : A gorgeous, and yet practical gift, painted silk fabric can be worn, accessorized or hung as art. Look for both hand-brushed and block-printed - the latter is usually less expensive and still just as meaningful a souvenir of your vacation in Malaysia.
  • Songket : A representation of the mixing of the Chinese, Malaysian and Indian cultures, painted songket fabric is a mixture of silk and gold threads. As with batik, you can turn it into anything, from a tablecloth to wall art.
  • Kerongsang : Certain to be a talking piece at your next dinner party, a Malaysian Kerongsang brooch is a glamorous souvenir. Typically, Kerongsang is sold as a set of three pieces, all of varying sizes, and embedded with colorful stones and beads.
  • Wau kites : Bring home a piece of Malaysian history - traditional way kites used to be flown competitively in Kelantan. There are colors and prints suited to any preference or personal style, all incredibly intricate and eye catching.
  • Boh tea : Tea lovers can tour a Malay tea plantation in Cameron Highlands - then bring home a taste of the world-renowned Boh tea to enjoy at home. There are countless flavors to choose from, each with its own spices and health benefits.

Malaysia Tour Reviews

Malaysia - tour highlights and travel tips.

A trip to Malaysia feels like a tour to two different countries; one which is very cosmopolitan, with architectural wonders, and the other that is all nature.

Malaysia’s rapid growth, multi-lane highways, spectacular theme parks, sprawling malls and glitzy cities might take you away from many of its real charms, but head over to the countryside or simply visit one of those colorful markets in its big cities and you realize that this is a country that is full of culture and traditions. British, Chinese, Indian, Malay, Dutch and Portuguese cultures intertwine to form the basis of Malaysia, and each culture has left its mark on the local customs, traditions, cuisines and architecture.

A trip to Malaysia always feels like you’re visiting two different countries. One that has beautiful colonial-era architecture, enchanting tea plantations and world-class cities and the other that has vast ancient jungles, remote tribes and beautiful granite peaks.

Tour Highlights

  • See the capital city from the sky bridge of the Petronas Towers
  • Climb your way into the Batu Caves
  • Explore the stalls of Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown
  • Visit some of the world’s last wild orangutans at Semenggoh Nature Reserve
  • Indulge in the bright colours of Kek Lok Si temple
  • Hang out with pit vipers at the Snake Temple in Penang
  • Walk across the Langkawi Sky Bridge

Travel Tips

  • Malaysia is made up of two regions: West or Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. When travelling between them, be mindful of the fact that West and East Malaysia have different cultures, including different dialects and different religions.
  • Eating with your hands is encouraged in Malaysia, and it’s rare that you’ll be given a knife with your food.
  • Don’t show the soles of your feet or the bottom of your shoes, such as by crossing your legs. It’s considered disrespectful.
  • It can be difficult to get reliable, fast internet outside the city of Kuala Lumpur (KL).
  • Public transportation in KL is easy to use but frequently runs late, so give yourself plenty of time when travelling.
  • Don’t be afraid to try the street food when in Malaysia. Vendors are held to a high standard, particularly when compared to other Asian countries. Keep an eye out for durian (though you’ll probably smell it before you see it!).

Malaysia has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Malaysia before planning your tour.

Borneo – East Sabah Adventure Tour

  • Christmas & New Year

Borneo – East Sabah Adventure

If you are looking for a nature holiday, I would most defiantely recommend Borneo. Saw all the wildlife I had hoped for and more. Our CEO with G Adventures, Ricky, was fantastic. Helpful, kind, knowledgable and very calm. Always happy to help and answer any questions regarding the wildlife or history of Borneo. The group was also fantastic, full of laid back, like minded, wildlife lovers, from all over the world. Thank you!!

Highlights of Sabah & Mt Kinabalu Tour

Highlights of Sabah & Mt Kinabalu

The itinerary did exactly as expected, showcased the highlights of Sabah. The additional activities exceeded expectations; tubing in Tambatuon village was fun for the range of ages amongst out group, on the night jungle walk in kinabatangan, we had the pleasure of strolling across an endangered tarsier. Our well-connected guide (Jerry) was actively involved in all activities and shared a wealth of knowledge, as a local. The connections Jerry has with the communities made us feel at home in Borneo. His professionalism and experience in mountain climbing made the Mt Kinabalu hike a personal highlight for me. A well-passed, humbling and spectacular adventure well worth taking.

Just finished the wonderful Best of Malaysia tour with Yan, our amazing guide! The trip was everything I could have asked for and more. Transport was good - local buses, train, private mini bus - and the accommodation was great (comfy with all the necessities such as wifi and a good breakfast!) Best of Malaysia covers all the touristy spots as well as more traditional experiences such as the local homestay. We were a group of eight with a variety of backgrounds and ages. The small size of the group definitely helped create a warm and friendly travelling environment. The tour was well-paced with a nice balance of relaxation and adventure. Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed everything about the Borneo trip, the guide, Gobert was fun, helpful and pleasant. I would recommend this tour.
Great tour! Good combination of nature and city, easy days and active days. Lots of travelling days, which was the only downside, but that’s the only way to do all that we did.

Places to visit in Malaysia

Malaysia’s dazzling cityscapes, entrancing ancient rainforests and mélange of ancient cultures prove true the tourism slogan, ‘Malaysia, Truly Asia.’ Cooks hovering around simmering pots of soup and noodles bark out orders in a dialect unknown to you. While aromatic plantations invite you for a steaming cup of tea. The quiet town of Langkawi calls out to you for a stroll by the seashore. This is just a trailer of Malaysia for you. This country is waiting to be explored. Here are a few places to visit in Malaysia as a part of your Malaysia tourism package that will mesmerise and engross you.

Kuala Lumpur

Street markets that don’t sleep. Skyscrapers clad in steel giving a sharp contrast to colourfully ornamented mosques and temples spelling culture. Kuala Lumpur is an effervescent mix of communities. The shimmering and imposing Petronas Towers look down at you. Marvel at the city’s landscapes from the inside of the tallest twin towers in the world. Make your way to Jalan Alor, deemed to be the city’s most popular eats street. It is crammed with modest tables perfect for alfresco dining. Noodles and rice are served in banana leaves or newspaper packets. This is dining, redefined.

The golden statue of Lord Murugan guards this national treasure. This limestone hill is dotted with a series of caves and cave temples. Reaching the Temple Caves is quite the climb, with around 272 steps. Bats flutter, revealing themselves from the shadow while mischievous monkeys scan tourists, looking for their next prey. You will also discover nine hundred-year-old ironwood coffins in Batu caves .

Sipadan Island

A hidden gem, Sipadan is identified as the only oceanic island in the country. If you are a water baby, this is the place to be. Famous for its breath-taking sunsets, this island is perhaps the only one that can be explored on foot within half an hour. Expect world-class diving and countless speed board trips to Sipadan’s exquisite underwater world when in this island. While one side of Sipadan spurs up images of children paddling their boats between flamboyantly coloured houseboats and grubby driftwood sheds, the other is about tanned individuals emerging from the underwater world after hours of contact with sharks and other creatures of the sea.

Cameron Highlands

If you are a tea connoisseur Cameron Highlands , this is the place to be. Walk through strawberry fields and lush green tea plantations that dot Malaysia’s largest hill station. Amidst this touristic hubbub is an ominous presence of tranquility that exists throughout. Scenic trails and picturesque sceneries call for extensive trekking and outdoor activities.

What to eat in Malaysia?

Malaysia’s street food scene takes ‘eating out’ way too seriously. Food here comes fast, with speed being the main ingredient. Take away noodles and soup in loose packets or eat them from banana leaves, having street food in Malaysia is something you must try.

  • BatuMaung Satay – The aroma of fresh grilled chicken, pork or beef on bamboo skewers will lure you towards little lanes dotted with hawker stalls. Make your way to Lorong Baru, a bustling lane that comes alive with food lovers in the night. This dish is usually served with cucumber chunks accompanied with raw white onion.
  • Ice Kacang – An evolved version of a banana split, this sweet dish is prepared from corn, kidney beans and translucent small morsels of jelly. This dish doesn’t have ice cream, but shaved ice instead dipped in a bubble gum like syrup. This one will surely be a favourite amongst the kids!
  • Char KueyTeow - The ultimate comfort food, this dish feels like home with savoury noodles topped with hot eggs, prawns and some nutritious bean sprouts. This dish is flavourful, with contrasting textures and its charred smokiness that lingers on your tongue long after you have had it.
  • Roast chicken rice – Who knew healthy could also be tasty? Chopped chicken with a hint of golden and a drizzle of soy-sauce is piled atop fluffy rice cooked in butter and oil. This dish is best had with a hot bowl of soup with some cucumber slices on the side.

Escape to an underwater world at Sipadan Island, Sabah

A hidden gem, Sipadan is identified as the only oceanic island in the country. If you are a water baby, this is the place to be. Expect world-class diving at Turtle Cavern, Barracuda Point, South Point and Hanging Gardens. Kids can indulge in snorkeling and boat safaris.

Ques: What makes Malaysia a popular travel destination?

Ans: Divided into two parts by the South China Sea, Malaysia has a multicultural base and a varied topography. You will find beautiful beaches, verdant forests and several other beautiful locations that will mesmerise your senses. A Malaysia tour package offers plenty of outdoor activities and many interesting destinations. Malaysia is a treat for wildlife lovers as it houses several national parks like Similajau National Park, Niah National Park and Batang Ai National Park. Explore amazing beaches like Tanjung Aru Beach, Manukan Island and Sapi Island. Besides indulging in adventure sports, you can enjoy trekking in the lap of nature at Penang Hill. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city, is a popular tourist destination. It is home to the famous Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin skyscrapers in the world. Book Malaysia Tour Packages Now!

Ques: What are the best places to visit in Malaysia?

The towers are joined by a double-decker sky bridge, and the observation deck on the 86th floor is 370 m above the ground. Feel exhilarated to get a bird’s eye view of the city from here. The Menara Kuala Lumpur is one of the tallest freestanding towers in the world. The spectacular view from the tower, the restaurants and the entertainment centres make it a must-visit part of every Malaysia tour package. If you are planning to visit the western part of Malaysia, it is best to travel between December to February. During this period, you can witness the Chinese New Year celebration, which is a 15-day festival and the Thaipusam festival. I've been using their services since I was a little child - all the way till I can purchase my own tickets online. Now they're about to or already being listed, I put some of my hard-earned cash into their IPO.

Have travelled with them some time ago, they were good and well organised. I would recommend them.

Great operators, they seem to take care of the little things as well as manage any little issues. Will take tours with Parlo again.

A travel agency which offers reasonable prices on air tickets and package tours especially during the MATTA Fair. Please consider using their services.

Book with them- consider all done. Just give your preference then let them get back to you. I deal with them once, for Thailand trip. Value for money.

Really helpful service; will probably use again for some of the more obscure destinations I'd like to visit.

Excellent travel and tours company offering inbound and outbound tours have followed two of its outbound tours over the last two years.

10D7N Europe Bonanza: Great holiday! A five-star trip. his package was absolutely excellent with value for money and will recommend to others. Thank you for your excellent service and we will come back soon!

I'm loyal to these guys. Being a serious traveler, I have used many agents but the satisfaction the you get with these guys, its incomparable. Try it yourself.

Was at the place to drop off documents and photos for China visa application. The staff are friendly and helpful
