From the base camp in Katra, you will have to trek 13 km to reach the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple. It houses Goddess Vaishno Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Mahalakshmi. It is said that whoever embarks on a journey to this spiritual place will be blessed with all his wishes and beyond. The Goddess is known to provide great riches, welfare, and good health to her devotees.

5 – Marvel at the architecture of Raghunath Temple 

Raghunath Temple is dedicated to Lord Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is a cultural hub that is not just revered as a spiritually significant place but also houses several ancient scriptures and manuscripts. Along with the main temple space, you can find a museum and library here. The Temple attracts tourists from across the world, and one of the reasons is its Rajuputi Architectural style with Mughalai finishing touches. Built in the 19th Century, it is the biggest temple to exist in the region, and visiting it remains to be one of the main things to do in Jammu.

6 – Mythologically important Surinsar Lake

Meet the twin of Mansar Lake! The Surinsar Lake is the best place to see in Jammu if you are interested in mythological tales. This enchanting water body is also called ‘Arjuna’s Arrow’ or ‘Ban Talaab’. According to the story, when the Pandavas were in exile, Arjuna shot an arrow into the ground to create a lake that will eliminate the water scarcity in the region. Another story also goes that Lord Shiva slayed the demon Jalandhara whose remains fell on earth and created a depression. And here, water seeped out to form Surinsar Lake. Keeping the authenticity of the tales aside, the lake offers a splendid view and a serene environment to relax.

7 – Dine at a cafe at Natha Top

The majestic beauty of the Natha Top attracts tourists from across the country and happens to be the most beautiful place to visit in Jammu. From an impressive elevation, you can see the snow-laden mountains, white and glistening valleys, the green vegetation that peaks underneath the fresh snow, and more! The visitors can come here to click some ethereal pictures, have a gala time in the cold environment, and also explore some very fine cafes present there. You have to take a short trek from Patnitop, Jammu, to reach the Natha Top.

8 – Trek to the Shivkori Temple

A small trek through the lush green hills will take you to one of the best places to see in Jammu. With a height of 150 meters, the Shiv Kori cave temple has many stalactites and stalagmite formations that are considered to be holy. The best part is the naturally formed 4-feet Swayambhu Lingam which is considered to be very powerful. People come here to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and free them from sin and worldly attractions.

9 – Hail the female freedom fighter at Mahamaya Temple

The Mahamaya temple is one of the unique Jammu places to visit this season. The shrine is not built for any Hindu deity but is home to one of the most courageous female freedom fighters in the past. Mahamaya belonged to the Dogra clan and fought against foreign invasions many centuries ago. The temple celebrated the strength of Indian women. Also, it is present on a hilltop offering breathtaking views of the Jammu valley. If you visit Bahu Fort, you will easily find the Mahamaya Temple behind it.

10 – Countryside views from Akhnoor Fort

The fort is known for its strategic bastions, watch tower and beautiful courtyards. You can come here to witness the natural visage of the Jammu countryside. The inner halls, well-designed arches, intricate carvings on the walls, and the leftover ruins will show you the grandeur of ancient India.

11 – Witness the grandeur of Sheesh Mahal

It is one of the most enchanting places to visit in Jammu because of the shining grandeur, reflecting lights, and thousands of mirrors that adorn the walls. The Palace was built by Raja Ram Singh in the 1880s. You will find perfect mural paintings hanging in the halls that depict scenes from Mahabharata and Ramayana. Moreover, the palace’s hanging chandeliers and subtle furniture also add to its glamour and magnificence.

12 – Explore the history at Dogra Art Museum

Choosing your next vacation isn’t just about where you visit, but where you stay.

To help travelers book the vacation possible, Tripadvisor , one of the biggest online travel agencies, revealed its  2024 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards  — including the list of the world’s best hotels .

The list ranks destinations that received a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over the past year — out of 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieved the milestone.

New York City is still one of the top tourist destinations in the world, so it’s no shock that three of the top stays in the US are right here in Manhattan: The Luma Hotel in Times Square, The Bryant Park Hotel and Casablanca Hotel by Library Hotel Collection, also in Times Square.

But although many people agree NYC is the greatest city in the world, none of its hotels made the list for the best stays on a global scale.

The top hotel in the world is the Hotel Colline de France in Brazil, according to Tripadvisor.

The luxurious stay was highly rated for its “sophistication and comfort” shown through its glamorous rooms and luscious spa.

The live piano music played at breakfast and complimentary sparkling wine were also nice touches.

“The hotel’s sensational design and warm atmosphere make it a unique choice for an elegant, yet cozy, getaway,” Tripadvisor said.

The top hotel in the US is the Shore Hotel in Santa Monica, California, according to Tripadvisor.

The pet-friendly hotel stands out with its beautiful view of the ocean and eco-friendly but slick design — its proximity to the Santa Monica Pier also helps to attract guests.

Travelers also raved about the variety of food options, including the in-room breakfast options and the poolside bar.

“A stylish atmosphere and attention to detail ensure a fab stay for you and your furry friend,” Tripadvisor said.

A New Home for Sundance? Festival Organizers Say It’s Possible.

A 13-year contract with Park City, Utah, is set to expire in 2026 and the film festival is beginning a review process to see if it should move.

For the past 40 years, the Sundance Film Festival, the influential annual gathering focused on independent film, has been indelibly linked with the snowy mountain town of Park City, Utah.

That may change.

The Sundance Institute, the nonprofit organization that runs the festival, announced Wednesday that with its 13-year contract with the city set to expire in 2026, it would begin a review process to determine whether it should move.

It will now start seeking information from other U.S. cities interested in hosting the festival, which traditionally takes place in January. Beginning in May, the institute will request proposals from cities selected to move forward. The institute expects to announce its decision around the end of the year or the beginning of 2025.

The festival will remain in Park City for 2025 and 2026. Park City, an hour outside Salt Lake City, often becomes snarled with traffic during the 10-day festival. Rental prices explode during the event, and the snowy climate often complicates the process of attending the screenings for many patrons.

“This exploration allows us to responsibly consider how we best continue sustainably serving our community while maintaining the essence of the Festival experience,” Eugene Hernandez, director of the Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to conversations that center supporting artists and serving audiences as part of our mission and work at Sundance Institute, and are motivated by our commitment to insure that the festival continues to thrive culturally, operationally and financially as it has for four decades.”

Sundance, which Robert Redford founded in 1981 and moved to Park City in 1985, continues to be the dominant festival for independent film. For the 2024 edition, the festival received a record number of submissions, over 17,000 from 153 countries. Mr. Redford remains on the institute’s board, which will be part of the review process. His daughter Amy is on the task force that will review proposals.

Park City officials said the city planned to issue a proposal to keep the festival.

“We appreciate our partnership with Sundance, and we want the festival to remain here for another 40 years,” Nann Worel, Park City’s mayor, said in a statement.
