Germany Travel Mart GTM 2023 takes place in Essen, Germany

germany travel mart 2023

The 49th GTM will take place in Essen from April 16-18, 2023. Partners are the Essen Marketing Gesellschaft mbH (EMG), Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (RTG) and Tourismus NRW e.V.

NEW DELHI – At the conclusion of the highly successful 48th Germany Travel Mart (GTM) in Oberammergau, the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has announced the next venue. The GNTB would like to thank all organizers of this year's GTM in Oberammergau for their professional support.

Petra Hedorfer , Chief Executive Officer (CEO): " We are already looking forward to the next GTM in Essen. The high level of interest in travel to Germany among the travel industry reflects the need for such a business platform. The Ruhr region exemplifies a successful transformation to an environmentally oriented region with a wide range of offers for nature and active vacations. Essen, on the other hand, underscores the region's position as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for example, with the Zeche Zollverein and Villa Hügel, for example, underscores Germany's position as Europe's No. 1 cultural Europe. This supports our commitment to further develop the brand essence 'Germany simply inspiring' further toward even more sustainable tourism."

The workshop will take place in the rooms of the Philharmonie and Saalbau. The meeting will be flanked by two events at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein and in the then newly opened Airship Hall at Essen-Mülheim Airport.

Mentioning of the Germany Travel Mart in Essen in 2023, Mr. Romit Theophilus , Director, Sales & Marketing, India said ‘‘The mart would be an excellent opportunity to explore Germany’s third-greenest city in the heart oft the Ruhr region. Whether a city excursion, familiy vacation or a trip to a trade fair, Essen is always worth visiting. Whether one enjoy shopping in a vibrant metropolis, hiking and cycling in an idyllic countryside or art and culture in topnotch museums, theatres or the UNESCO World Heritage site at the Zollverein collierey – Essen has everything!“.

Background The GTM is organized annually by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) in cooperation with changing partner regions and cities. The centerpiece of the event is the workshop. Suppliers from the hotel industry, transportation, and local and regional tourism organizations present their offerings to the international trade audience – key account managers from the international travel industry from important source markets for German tourism. Participants will be able to make new contacts and deepen existing ones, hold technical discussions, and conclude business deals with German suppliers.

Positive feedback from Indian participants at Germany Travel Mart 2023 in Essen

germany travel mart 2023

Romit Theophilus, Director, German National Tourist Office in India, said, “the response from both our partners and agents has been overwhelming and we are grateful for all the support that we have received through the years in our endeavour in showcasing Germany as a travel destination in the Indian tourism landscape.”

NEW DELHI – At the conclusion of the 49th Germany Travel Mart (GTM) in Essen, the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), as organizer, can report an extraordinarily positive response. According to an on-site survey of suppliers during the event, 90 per cent were satisfied/very satisfied with the way the GTM went.

Petra Hedorfer , CEO of the Board of Directors of the GNTB: “GTM 2023 once again confirmed the importance of face-to-face meetings as a means of continually business relationships on an ongoing basis. 83 per cent of suppliers had already participated in the GTM in the past. 97 percent of the respondents were able to make new business contacts, and 87 percent intend to participate in the GTM again in the future. At the same time, the positive feedback from the participants confirmed the GTM’s key topics: Sustainability, Digital Transformation, linking city breaks with rural regions, climate- and environmentally friendly transportation, and extending the length of stay. The positive response to GTM 2023 is a strong signal for the position of German inbound tourism in the global competition among destinations.”

germany travel mart 2023

Around 200 German companies from the hotel industry, the transport sector and the leisure industry, incoming services, regional tourism organizations and around 230 buyers from international travel companies and from online travel companies used the platform on April 17 and 18, 2023, to negotiate offers for the coming year. To this end, they used the GNTB’s GTM Networking Tool to arrange around 5,300 appointments. Around 100 journalists also took part in the event.

Romit Theophilus , Director, German National Tourist Office in India, said, “the response from both our partners and agents has been overwhelming and we are grateful for all the support that we have received through the years in our endeavour in showcasing Germany as a travel destination in the Indian tourism landscape. A formidable representation of Germany‘s touristic offering indicates a strong interest in the Indian market and on the other hand, the presence of our trade partners at such events only reinforces Germany‘s strong appeal to the Indian traveller. This exceedingly well-organized travel mart also presents the latest news and trends in Germany’s incoming tourism industry to selected Indian journalists, whose reports then generate additional push in the German travel market.”

Mr. Theophilus said in a statement, “ In terms of growth from India, we had a decent year with a year-to-date growth of over 205% in comparison to 2021. Germany welcomed more than 600,000 more Indians (Overnights) in 2022 as compared to the same period in 2021. For the coming years, the country has a lot to offer in terms of adventure, food, cuisine, new unexplored destinations, and unique experiences. We are thankful to our partners for their continued support, and we hope that we welcome more tourists for the upcoming season.”

The GNTB also organized the 49th GTM as a Green Meeting. Among the concrete measures, to reduce the event’s carbon footprint included, for example, supporting the support for environmentally friendly rail travel, offsetting the CO2 emissions of all flights, catering as far as possible from regional sources and the use of reusable trade show furniture and energy-saving event technology.

50th GTM 2024 in Chemnitz

The next GTM will be held in Chemnitz, Germany, April 21-23, 2024. Host of the GTM 2024 will be hosted by the Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (CWE) and the Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen mbH (TMGS)

The GTM is organized annually by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) in cooperation with changing partner regions and cities. The heart of the event is the workshop. Suppliers from the hotel and transport industries as well as local and regional tourism organizations present to the international audience of experts – key account managers from the international travel industry from important source markets for German tourism and online travel companies – present their offerings. Participants will have the opportunity to make new contacts and strengthen existing ones, and conclude business deals with German suppliers.

Germany Travel Mart 2023 witnesses overwhelmingly positive response

facebook-share

On the 49th GTM held in Essen recently, the GNTB received an overwhelmingly positive reception

The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) says it received an overwhelmingly good reception at the recently organised 49th Germany Travel Mart (GTM) in Essen. According to a press statement by GNTB, around 200 German brands from the hotel industry, transport sector and leisure industry as well as incoming services, regional tourism organisations and about 230 buyers from international travel companies and from online travel companies availed the platform to network and negotiate offers for the upcoming year. As many as 5,300 appointments were set up using the GTM Networking Tool of the GNTB while the event was covered by over 100 journalists.

GNTO says that 90 pc of suppliers that participated in an on-site poll conducted during the event said they were satisfied or extremely satisfied with the way GTM ran.

Petra-Hedorfer

Petra Hedorfer

“GTM 2023 once again confirmed the importance of face-to-face meetings as a means of continual business relationships on an ongoing basis. As many as 83 pc of suppliers had already participated in the GTM in the past, 97 pc of the respondents were able to make new business contacts and 87 pc intend to participate in the GTM again in the future. At the same time, the positive feedback from the participants confirmed the GTM’s key topics, sustainability, digital transformation, linking city breaks with rural regions, climate  friendly and environmentally friendly transportation and extending the length of stay. The positive response to GTM 2023 is a strong signal for the position of German inbound tourism in the global competition among destinations,” says Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the Board of Directors of the GNTB.

germany travel mart 2023

Romit Theophilus

“The response from both our partners and agents has been overwhelming and we are grateful for all the support that we have received through the years in our endeavour in showcasing Germany as a travel destination in the Indian tourism landscape. A formidable representation of Germany‘s touristic offering indicates a strong interest in the Indian market and on the  other hand, the presence of our trade partners at such events only reinforces Germany‘s strong appeal to the Indian traveller. This exceedingly well-organised travel mart also presents the latest news and trends in Germany’s incoming tourism industry to selected Indian journalists, whose reports then generate additional push in the German travel market,” says Romit Theophilus , Director of German National Tourist Office in India.

GNTB adds that the 49th GTM was also set up as a ‘Green Meeting’. Some of the concrete steps taken to lessen the event’s carbon footprint include encouraging environmentally friendly rail travel, offsetting the CO2 emissions of all flights, sourcing food as much as possible locally, using reusable trade show furniture, and utilising energy-efficient event technology.

“In terms of growth from India, we had a decent year with a year to date growth of over 205 pc in comparison to 2021. Germany welcomed more than 600,000 more Indians in 2022 as compared to the same period in 2021. For the coming years, the country has a lot to offer in terms of adventure, food, cuisine , new unexplored destinations, and unique experiences. We are thankful to our partners for their continued support and we hope that we welcome more tourists for the upcoming season,” Theophilus adds.

Germany Encourages Travellers To Stay A Little Bit Longer

April 18, 2023

germany travel mart 2023

During a press conference on March 17th for the 49th Germany Travel Mart held in Essen, Petra Hedorfer, the CEO of the German National Tourist Board, highlighted that travellers’ behaviours have shifted slightly coming out of the pandemic. Although city breaks are popular again, she shared that travellers are now combining these trips with elements in the great outdoors.

“According to research by the Sinus Institute conducted in December 2022 on behalf of the GNTB, 54 per cent of respondents would consider combining their city break with a trip to the countryside,” she said. “And 39 per cent would combine their stay in holiday regions with trips to towns and cities. In light of this, we believe there is a golden opportunity to use Germany’s outstanding cultural tourism offering to inspire travellers to visit the country.”

germany travel mart 2023

Following a memorable party in a massive Zeppelin airship hangar last night, the 49th instalment of Germany Travel Mart wraps up today. Some 350 international travel trade and media representatives from 39 countries — including a Canadian delegation — are currently taking part in the conference, considered to be the most important sales event for inbound tourism to Germany.

After two years of crisis, Hedorfer, noted that inbound tourism picked up again last year, and data from tour operators suggests that 2023 is continuing on an upwards trajectory.

“The mood in the international travel industry is positive. 75 per cent of the 250 key accounts on our Travel Industry Expert Panel expect their German business to continue to grow in the first six months of 2023,” she added.

germany travel mart 2023

One of the key strategies for the German National Tourist Board going forward is to encourage travellers to stay a little bit longer in the destination, a concept that will soon be featured in marketing campaigns.

“Today in Europe, we’ve become a very classic travel destination,” she said. “Stay a little bit longer — there are so many reason why, not the least to reduce your carbon footprint.”

With a significant number of overnight stays in Germany coming from business travellers, the destination will also focus on growing the bleisure segment.

“The 2021 Destination Brand survey also revealed a close link between an affinity for sustainable travel and interest in cultural experiences. This ties in with our aim of inspiring visitors to extend their stay and make it more sustainable, and of boosting the integration of rural areas into cultural tourism,” she said.

germany travel mart 2023

Compared to 2019 levels, Germany’s recovery rate is at 75.7% — with recovery from markets within Europe already reaching 80.8%.

“It is clear that tourism in the new normal will be more sustainable and more responsible. We need to work together to make this happen,” she shared. “We are seeing a growing interest in sustainability. People want authenticity. They are much more aware of their own responsibility and of the importance of the environment. International research shows that customers will choose sustainable travel if the option is there.”

The Canadian delegation on hand for GTM includes Sandie Vanderschot, Ellison Travel & Tours; Harry Goetschi, Groupe Tours Chanteclerc Inc.; Vincent Veerasuntharam, Connaissance Travel & Tours and Yury Manukhow, Canadian Gateway/CG Journeys.

“Alongside our partners we have been working closely with the travel trade community throughout the pandemic, and GTM Germany Travel MartTM 2021 serves to provide additional information to attendees about offerings across the country, while reassuring traveller confidence with the various safety measures that have been put in place,” Yamina Sofo, Director Sales & Marketing, German National Tourist Office (GNTO), the regional office of GNTB, said.

“Now in its 47th edition, GTM Germany Travel MartTM 2021 serves as a networking platform between around 800 key participants from across international industry suppliers, this digital addition will ensure another successful year of introducing innovative ideas to the tourism industry.”

Strategic global partners will also lead extensive workshops and panel sessions on sustainability and how one of Germany’s top priorities is diversifying options of production to be well equipped for climate change. Itb berlin 2023: world’s leading travel trade show to take place live again next march in berlin.

Focus on B2B customers and new dates: Tuesday, 7 to Thursday, 9 March 2023 – Big platform for the host country Georgia – Partner event Berlin Travel Festival will augment the leisure fair BOAT & FUN BERLIN in November 2022

Messe Berlin is planning a number of important changes next year to mark the first in-person edition of ITB Berlin since the pandemic began. Instead of running from a Wednesday to a Sunday, ITB Berlin 2023 will take place on three successive days, from Tuesday 7 to Thursday, 9 March . The demands placed on global trade fairs have changed considerably in recent years, which is why in future and in terms of customers, the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show is concentrating its efforts to focus on exhibiting companies as well as exclusively on trade visitors, buyers and the media. As in previous years, the internationally renowned ITB Berlin Convention will take place live parallel with the exhibition on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, with selected sessions live-streamed on itb.com. Virtual services surrounding the live show will round off events.

“By positioning ITB Berlin exclusively as a B2B product we want to make the format future-proof and further significantly enhance the brand as a global catalyst of the tourism industry, said David Ruetz, head of ITB Berlin . “At the same time we are making sure to give our image a necessary boost and improve our existing ties and ability to attract new customers. In the past we have repeatedly observed that the majority of our exhibitors place a clear emphasis on addressing B2B audiences. In future, this move will make it possible to further concentrate their efforts.”

According to Ruetz, the new concept enables ITB Berlin to explore avenues for further developing the trade show and also targeting audiences with additional networking opportunities. Concerning exhibitors, the trade show is announcing the return of a popular event, with ITB Berlin 2023 once again planning to honour outstanding exhibitor representations with the ITB Exhibitor Award.

BOAT & FUN BERLIN is the new meeting place for consumer products

Messe Berlin also has new things in store for the general public and companies interested in B2C business. The Berlin Travel Festival , until now the consumer partner event of ITB, will in future represent the B2C element of the boating and leisure exhibition BOAT & FUN BERLIN, which will take place from 24 to 27 November 2022 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. The Berlin Travel Festival was previously held at Arena Berlin, parallel with ITB Berlin’s open weekend for the public. With its new concept, Messe Berlin has established dates for the general public, who will be able to focus on a single time period and find the whole range of leisure services, as well as boats, caravanning, camping and fishing products practically under one roof. Big platform for the host country Georgia

Georgia, the official host country, will play an important part at ITB Berlin 2023. Last year, it fascinated visitors as ITB Berlin’s Adventure & Sustainability Partner, and presented its cultural attractions in the role of Convention & Culture Partner in 2022. In May, Georgia was the first destination to host the new TRVLX by ITB event series. On Monday, 6 March, on the eve of ITB Berlin 2023, Georgia will kick off the trade show with a festive opening gala at the CityCube Berlin, which will be live-streamed. The country will also be strongly represented on the exhibition grounds, including at hub27 and in Hall 4.1.

Exhibitors can register soon for ITB Berlin

As of mid-June exhibitors will be able to register for ITB Berlin 2023. By registering no later than 31 August 2022 they can take advantage of an Early Bird stand rental offer, starting at EUR 205/m² (instead of EUR 209 209/m²). The offer applies as of stand registrations being officially announced (estimated to be mid-June). The deadline for registrations is 30 September 2022 . Information on all other conditions of participation can be obtained when stand registrations have been announced. More details are available at: itb.com .

About ITB Berlin and the ITB Berlin Convention

Since 1966, ITB Berlin has been the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show. The ITB Berlin convention is the world’s largest travel industry event of its kind. In 2022 it took place as a virtual event on the brand’s website itb.com and registered 60,700 attendees from 125 countries who took part in more than 100 sessions featuring 223 speakers. Taking place on one day, the Digital Business Day gave 2,500 attendees from 96 countries an opportunity to exchange views and do business virtually from anywhere in the world. International attendance was high, with 78 per cent of buyers and providers taking part from abroad. A total of 20,000 business contacts were made, resulting in 14,000 leads and 3,200 business meetings being arranged. As a virtual industry platform, the Digital Business Day augmented the ITB brand family and rounded off the trade show concept. In 2022, under the heading ’TRVLX by ITB’, ITB Berlin is planning a series of B2B networking events in European markets – the kick-off event will take place in May in Georgia. Before the pandemic at ITB Berlin 2019, around 10,000 exhibitors from 181 countries displayed their products and services to some 160,000 visitors, including 113,500 trade visitors.
