On the Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Splendor, the staterooms are fitted with a 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) as well as a standard Australian 3-point plug; adaptors providing 220/240 volt 60Hz are available upon request.

On the Carnival Firenze, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Panorama, Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Venezia and Carnival Vista, there is one USB outlet (5 volt, 1000mA) in each stateroom. On the Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee and Mardi Gras, there are multiple USB outlets at the desk and next to the beds.

The outlet in the bathroom can only be used for electric razors.

If you feel as though you may need more plug sockets you may tempted to bring a power strip or power cord. These are banned by most cruise lines and as your luggage is searched on embarkation, one should not be brought on board. To find out why they’re banned, check out this post: Cruise Lines Don’t Allow Power Strips – These are Your Alternatives

Alternatives to Power Strips

USB Charging Stations:  Charging stations do not usually include plug outlets but have multiple USB options. They are usually used to charge things like phones, tablets, and cameras. This is my personal favourite option and I’d recommend a charging station for most cruisers. They’re relatively cheap, small and work very well.

Multi Socket Outlets:  Outlet taps plug into the plug socket and are used to provide additional outlets, most of them include USB options. You may have seen either long or cube-shaped outlet taps which provide 2 or 3 extra sockets.

Outlet Adapters:  Due to the different types of outlets in different countries, outlet adapters provide different types of plugs, and may contain USB options. An outlet adapter may convert a US plug socket to a UK one for example and provide extra USB sockets. An outlet adapter eliminates the need for a separate adapter which you would need if using an outlet tap or charging station.

Power Banks:  This isn’t so much of an alternative to a power strip as just another thing that you can use to keep your things charged. I’d always recommend bringing a good power bank with you on your cruise, that way you can charge multiple things from the bank and only have to charge the bank up instead of multiple other items. There are many types of power banks and I’ve tried a lot of them over the years. At the moment I am using an Anker power bank which you can find on Amazon here, unlike other banks, it hasn’t lost any capacity as I’ve been using it:  Anker Power Bank*

Note: Some devices will have other names including power port, outlet extender, and wall mount but may still be used onboard as long as there is no surge protection.

Below are some examples of charging stations, outlet taps, and outlet adapters that would be allowed on cruise ships.

What are the plug sockets on Carnival Cruises?

One question that lots of cruisers have is ‘what plug sockets are on a cruise ship?’ It’s handy to know in advance if you need to take a plug adapter or charging station. It’s important to note that not all ships are the same and the  plug sockets on Carnival Cruises  differ slightly from ship-by-ship.

In this post, I have compiled a comprehensive  list of the plug sockets on each Carnival cruise ship  and which adapters and charging stations you are allowed to take on your cruise.

What plug sockets are on Carnival Cruise Line?

In most Carnival Cruise Line cabins there is one electric outlet located at the desk. The outlet is equipped with a 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and a 220 volt (Europe German-Style). There are more outlets on the Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee and Mardi Gras, also located at the desk.

The newer cruise ships also have USB points.

On selected Carnival cruise ships there are also standard Australian 3-point plug sockets.

I have done some research to confirm the plug sockets on Carnival Cruises ships so you can plan exactly what you may need to bring. It’s worth being aware that a razor power point is found in each cabin bathroom across all ships.

Carnival Breeze plug sockets

Carnival Breeze has 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk.

There are no USB points in the cabins on this ship. We’d recommend taking a USB plug adapter so that you can charge two or more devices at a time.

Carnival Celebration plug sockets

Carnival Celebration has 2 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk along with 4 x USB points.

You will also find a USB charging point on either side of the bed. This is really useful for charging mobile devices.

Carnival Conquest plug sockets

Carnival Conquest has 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk.

What plug sockets are on Carnival Dream?

In Carnival Dream cabins there is 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk.

Plug sockets on Carnival Cruises – Carnival Elation

As the oldest cruise ship in the Carnival fleet, plug sockets will be limited, with no USB points. It has 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk.

What are the plug sockets on Carnival Firenze?

You will find a mixture of different types of plug sockets on Carnival Firenze.

There are 2 x USB outlet (5 volt, 1000mA) in each stateroom on Carnival Firenze next to one side of the bed. A further 2 x USBs are located by the desk.

1 x a standard Australian 3-point plug (220 volt) is found by the desk, along with 2 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style).

We think that the reason for so many different types of plugs is because the ship was originally built for Costa Cruises.

Carnival Freedom

In the cabins you will find 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk.

Carnival Glory

Carnival Glory has 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found in the cabin by the desk.

There are no USB points in the cabins. We’d recommend taking a USB plug adapter so that you can charge two or more devices at a time.

What plug sockets are on Carnival Horizon?

Carnival Horizon has 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk.

  • There is also 1 x USB point in each cabin on this ship.

What are the plug sockets on Carnival Jubilee?

Carnival Jubilee has 2 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) These are found by the desk along with 4 x USB points.

You will also find 1 x USB charging point on either side of the bed.

We really like the fact that there are so many USB points in cabins on this ship, especially beside the bed on both sides.

Carnival Legend – plus sockets on Carnival Cruises

Carnival Legend has 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) that are found in the cabin by the desk.

There are no USB points in the cabins. If you need to charge your mobile devices, don’t forget to pack a USB plug adapter!

There are no USB points in the cabins. We’d recommend taking a USB plug adapter.

Carnival Luminosa plug sockets

This former Costa Cruises ship is slightly different to most other ships in the fleet. In the cabins you will find 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) as well as 1 x standard Australian 3-point plug. Be aware that these are not the same as British plugs.

Adaptors providing 220/240 volt 60Hz are available upon request.

What is helpful is that there are USB points (approximately 4) on one side of the bed.

Carnival Magic

Carnival Magic cabins have 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) that are found in the cabin by the desk.

Carnival Panorama plugs

On Carnival Panorama there is one USB outlet (5 volt, 1000mA) in each stateroom. You also have 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style).

If this is not enough to charge everything you’ll be bringing we’d recommend packing a non-surge power strip for your cruise.

Plugs on Carnival Paradise

You will find 1 x 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and 1 x 220 volt (Europe German-Style) by the desk in the cabin.

Power Strips for Cruise Ships

If you want to take a power strip on your cruise, you need to make sure you choose one that is suitable for a cruise ship. Cruise ship sockets are different to those on land and therefore you should pick a non-surge protector plug adapter .

A regular power strip runs the risk of overloading the circuit, causing electrical damage and fire. This is why it’s important to check your power strip doesn’t have surge protection built in. If it does, it may be confiscated by Carnival Cruise Line on arrival.

Carnival Cruise Line  prohibits  weapons, illegal drugs and certain items that could interfere with the safe operation of its ships or compromise the safety and secure environment of its guests and crew.  Carnival conducts security scanning of all luggage and reserves the right to confiscate any item, which in Carnival’s sole discretion, is deemed dangerous or can pose a risk to the vessel or its guests. Items will be removed and disposed of and no compensation will be provided.   Carnival Cruise Line

You can take a look at the  full list of prohibited items on Carnival Cruises . We believe it’s worth familiarising yourself with what you can and cannot bring on your cruise to avoid disappointment.

Electrical items you can bring on a Carnival cruise

  • Personal grooming devices such as hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons, shavers, and other electrical devices, such as fans (no larger than 12″ in diameter), power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed when used with proper caution.  However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned on debarkation morning
  • Bluetooth, portable and wireless speakers are only permitted within your stateroom and must be used respectfully and at reasonable sound levels and times of day. Carnival reserves the right to amend this policy for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests.  Large speakers/radios are always prohibited on board and will be confiscated
  • A CPAP machine will need to be packed in carry-on luggage. Carnival carries distilled water, which can be purchased either pre-cruise or on board by contacting Room Service.  Guests bringing their own distilled water, must hand carry along with their CPAP machine
  • Small, personal-sized coolers no larger than 12” x 12” x 12” for the purpose of housing, small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage

Before packing, it’s worth being aware that Digital Cameras/Camcorders, DVDs/VCRs, USB sticks, iPods, Nintendo/X-Box Play Units cannot be used with the TV in the guest stateroom or suite as the connection ports are disabled.

Best Power Strip for U.S. Cruisers

If you are a  U.S. citizen and require more plug sockets  than your cabin has, we would recommend purchasing a  Cruise On Power Strip  from Amazon.

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

This power strip meets cruise ship requirements, so you know it’s safe to use and won’t be confiscated.

It has three U.S. plug sockets and two USB charging points. We think this is a great option if you require more charging points than the cabin provides.

Best Multi-plug Adapter for U.K. Cruisers

U.K. based cruise passengers need to have plug adapters for the U.S. and European plug sockets on Carnival Cruises.

These are trickier to find but we did come across a non-surge protected option at Screwfix. This has a British plug so would need to be used with a travel adapter. This would allow you to use a cruise approved power strip in any type of socket (provided you had the right travel adapter).

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

Final Thoughts about plug sockets on Carnival Cruises

It’s important that you check which travel adapters you need before your cruise. Hopefully, this post has helped you to decide what you require. Carnival Cruise Line will always have U.S. and European plug sockets and so if you live outside of the U.S. it’s important that you pack some travel adapters.

The worst case scenario is that you’ll have to purchase a travel adapter from the onboard shop.

If you have lots of devices that need charging, a power strip is useful to pack. The most important thing is that the power strip does not have surge protection.

Unsure if you need to take plug adapters on your next Carnival cruise? Here’s a complete list of plug sockets on Carnival Cruises ships.

What Kind Of Outlets Are On Carnival Cruise Ships

Published: January 5, 2024

by Tracey Campbell

what-kind-of-outlets-are-on-carnival-cruise-ships

Introduction

When planning a cruise vacation, it’s important to consider the amenities and facilities available on board. One essential aspect that many travelers overlook is the availability of outlets in their cabins. After all, staying connected and keeping devices charged is crucial in today’s technologically driven world.

Carnival Cruise Line, one of the largest and most popular cruise lines in the world, understands the importance of providing guests with convenient access to power sources. They have equipped their cruise ships with a variety of outlets to accommodate various plug types and charging needs.

In this article, we will take a closer look at the types of outlets you can expect to find on Carnival Cruise Line ships. From standard outlets to USB ports and even European outlets, Carnival offers a range of options to ensure that guests can charge their devices effortlessly and stay connected throughout their vacation.

So, if you’re wondering what kind of outlets you’ll find on Carnival Cruise Line ships, read on to discover the charging options available to you.

Standard Outlets

Carnival Cruise Line understands that guests may have a variety of devices that require traditional plug-in charging. To accommodate these needs, all Carnival cruise cabins are equipped with standard 110V outlets, similar to those found in most households in the United States .

These outlets are compatible with standard North American plugs, which typically have two parallel flat prongs. With these outlets, you can easily charge your smartphones, tablets, laptops, cameras, and other electronic devices without the need for any adapters or converters.

The location of the standard outlets may vary depending on the cabin category and ship design, but they are typically found near the desk or vanity area. So, you’ll have a dedicated space to keep your devices plugged in and easily accessible throughout your cruise.

It’s important to note that these outlets may have limited availability in certain areas of your cabin. Therefore, it’s a good idea to bring power strips or extension cords if you have multiple devices that need charging simultaneously. However, be sure to check Carnival’s guidelines and policies regarding the use of power strips or extension cords, as some cruise lines have specific regulations for safety reasons.

With the standard outlets on Carnival Cruise Line ships, you can have peace of mind knowing that you’ll have a reliable power source for your essential electronic devices throughout your cruise vacation.

USB Outlets

In addition to standard outlets, Carnival Cruise Line ships also feature convenient USB outlets in the cabins. These USB ports allow you to charge your devices directly using a USB cable, eliminating the need for an adapter or bulky power brick.

The USB outlets on Carnival ships are typically found near the bed or desk area, making it easy for you to charge your devices while you relax or work. Whether you need to charge your smartphone, tablet, smartwatch, or other USB-powered devices, these ports provide a convenient solution.

Having USB outlets in your cabin is not only convenient, but it also reduces the need to carry multiple chargers and adapters. You can simply connect your device’s USB cable directly to the port and ensure a quick and efficient charging experience.

It’s worth noting that the power output of USB outlets may vary. While some USB ports deliver a lower power output suitable for charging smartphones and smaller devices, others may provide a higher output for tablets and power-hungry devices. Therefore, it’s a good idea to check the power output of the USB outlets in your cabin to ensure you are using the appropriate port for your charging needs.

Overall, the USB outlets on Carnival Cruise Line ships offer a convenient and hassle-free way to keep your devices powered up throughout your cruise. So, you can stay connected, capture memorable moments through photos and videos, and enjoy the various entertainment options available on board without worrying about running out of battery.

European Outlets

For international travelers or guests who have devices with different plug types, Carnival Cruise Line ships also provide European outlets in select cabins. These outlets are specifically designed to accommodate European-style plugs, which typically have two round pins.

The European outlets on Carnival ships are located alongside the standard and USB outlets in the cabins. They are labeled with the appropriate symbols or indicators to distinguish them from the other outlets.

If you’re traveling from Europe or have devices that require European-style plugs, you can rest assured knowing that you’ll have access to these dedicated outlets on Carnival Cruise Line ships. This eliminates the need for plug adapters or converters, making it easier and more convenient to charge your devices while enjoying your cruise vacation.

It’s important to note that the availability of European outlets may vary depending on the ship and cabin category. Therefore, if having European outlets is essential for your charging needs, it’s recommended to check with Carnival Cruise Line or your travel agent when booking your cruise to ensure that your cabin will have the necessary outlets.

With European outlets available on Carnival Cruise Line ships, international travelers can rely on the convenience of charging their devices without the need for additional adapters. So, whether you’re from Europe or simply have devices with European-style plugs, you can stay connected and powered up throughout your cruise.

Additional Outlets

In addition to the standard, USB, and European outlets, some Carnival Cruise Line ships offer additional outlets in certain cabins. These additional outlets cater to guests who may have specific charging needs or require extra power sources for their devices.

For example, some cabins may feature power outlets near the bedside for easy access and convenience, allowing you to charge your devices while you sleep or relax. This is particularly helpful if you use your smartphone or tablet as an alarm or prefer to have your devices nearby during the night.

Furthermore, suites and higher-tier cabins on select Carnival ships may offer additional outlets or even dedicated charging stations. These cabins are designed to provide a more luxurious experience, with more power options to accommodate the charging needs of multiple devices simultaneously.

If you have specific charging requirements or anticipate using multiple devices throughout your cruise, it’s recommended to look into the cabin options available for your chosen ship. By selecting a cabin that offers additional outlets or charging stations, you can ensure that all your devices are conveniently powered at all times.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that availability and placement of additional outlets may vary by ship and cabin category. It’s advisable to check with Carnival Cruise Line or your travel agent to inquire about the specific charging options available in the cabins you are considering.

The 5 power adaptors you can bring on your next Carnival Cruise

must-have

By far one of the most important items you’re going to need for your cruise is… A Power adaptor

It the last few years the amount of gadgets and tech items where carrying with us is getting out of hand. The moment you step in your cabin its almost certainly going to be the first thing you look for. And that is, a socket to charge up your phone, tablet, laptop or even a travel torch.

In this article we look over 5 different type that will come in very handy once your ready to charge up. Now if your cruises on some of the newer ships, their even helping you out a little by now including a USB outlet on the desk. But even by adding that extra outlet, your still going to need more.

First things first lets see what the exact policy is according to the Carnival web site. The link to the specific page can be found HERE .

policy

the key sentence here is this:

Power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors and extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed on board when used with proper caution

So having understood that. Here are some of the different options you have where the items don’t have a Surge protector included.

1. Belkin 6-Outlet Power Strip with 12-Foot Cord

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

With 6 outlets this should be more than sufficient for most cruisers. The 12 foot cord I think is the real feature of this item. Also for people who might use a CPAP machine and need to have it close to your bed. this is definitely a must have as the longer cord can run across the room. The link to this can be found HERE .

2. Poweradd 3-Outlet Power Strip 5-foot Heavy Duty Extension Cord with 3 USB Charging Ports

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

This particular power strip is suited to someone wanting both regular 110 power and the option to plug in USB ready items as well. The link to this item can be found HERE .

3. Aurum Cables 10-Feet 3 Outlet Extension Cord – two pack

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

This perfect cord for anyone needing extra length. This 10 foot cable is supplied as a twin pack should you need more outlets in different parts of your cabin or stateroom. The link to this item can be found  HERE .

4. 3 Outlet Lateral Swivel Grounded Wall Adapter Tap

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

Something a little more traditional. This can be plugged directly into the socket in the cabin, instantly creating more power outlets. The link to this item can be found HERE.

5. JSVER Compact Travel Power Strip with 3 USB & 2 Power outlets

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

A great looking multi plug. offering 2 power outlets and 3 USB options. Giving great versatility. The link to this item can be found   HERE.

NEED MORE PACKING IDEAS:   7 Things you might have never thought to bring on your Cruise

Ok….. Late breaking news , well sort of. We have managed to find another one I think it’s defiantly worth a mention in this post.

Safemore Smart 8-Outlet with 4-USB Output Power Strip

carnival cruise ship electrical outlets

This one comes in different colors as well. So you can even start a new trend off by getting a non traditional color. The link for the black and white one can be found  HERE.  For the more fashion conscious you can even find it in blue. Check it out HERE

Last But Not Least

Lets see if your still reading this shall we. Perhaps you didn’t find anything you liked in this list, or you didn’t like the prices. Then i have one last alternative for you. For as little as $5.00 you can get this little almighty plug.

Electric Outlets

On all ships, each stateroom has one electric outlet located at the desk. The outlet is equipped with a 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and a 220 volt (Europe German-Style). On the Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee and Mardi Gras, there are three outlets located at the desk.

Power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors and extension cords ( without surge protectors ) are allowed on board when used with proper caution. However, banned electrical devices or devices determined to pose a safety hazard, will be confiscated and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

One of the most popular cruise ports in the world just got an important makeover

  • One of the most popular cruise ports in the world just got an environmental makeover.
  • PortMiami is now equipped with shore power, which allows ships to plug into giant electrical outlets.
  • The technology allows cruise ships to kill their engines while docked, reducing emissions and noise.

Insider Today

The cruise ship capital of the world unveiled its new shore power system this week, an innovative energy source that will help curb the industry's negative climate impacts.

Cruise ships docking at PortMiami are now able to plug into massive electrical outlets instead of running their diesel engines while idle.

Large commercial vessels typically keep their engines running while docked to ensure crew members and passengers who stay on board have access to electricity and other amenities. One cruise ship running its engine at port can use as much energy as 10,000 households in one day, The Miami Herald reported .

The Florida port saw more than 7 million cruise passengers pass through in 2023, a record-breaking figure for the busy cruise hub.

Shore power utilizes the local land-based power grid. The Miami apparatus is a collaboration between Miami-Dade County, Florida Power & Light Company, and several large cruise companies.

The project cost an estimated $125 million and was funded by grants and contributions, including from the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Florida Department of Transportation, Cruise Hive, a trade publication, reported .

Related stories

The energy comes from individual substations built by Florida Power & Light, which are installed at multiple terminals throughout the port, according to The Herald.

Shore power will help cut emissions and noise pollution , the outlet reported. MiamiPort has 16 megawatts available for cruise ships, and each vessel requires anywhere from eight to 13 megawatts per docking, port director Hydi Webb told The Herald.

MiamiPort did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

Monday marked the grand unveiling of PortMiaimi's shore power system. Executives from five cruise lines — Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Virgin, Norweigen , and MSC — attended, according to media reports.

The port's shore power rollout is quick. Three ships per cruise line will be able to plug into the substations starting this week, The Herald reported.

A Carnival ship was the first vessel to connect on Monday, according to Cruise Hive. The company did not immediately respond to BI's request for comment.

While 30% of global cruise ships have shore power capability, less than 30 ports are equipped to serve such ships, according to a 2023 report from the Cruise Lines Industry Association.

But more and more ports appear to be ready for the change. The Port of Seattle recently announced that it will require all cruise ships homeported there to use shore power by 2027.

Why cruise ships docked at the Miami port will plug into giant electrical outlets

Cruise ships docked at PortMiami can now plug in for power — a way to cut pollution, save fuel and pave a sustainable path.

The world capital of cruising on Monday unveiled what’s called shore power, with executives on hand from five major cruise companies: Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International Group, Virgin Voyages, Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises.

Starting this week, as many as three ships from the five cruise companies can plug into the port’s shore power.

Ships docked at ports usually keep their engines running to stay operational for passengers and crew. Shore power allows ships to shut off their engines and plug into a giant electric outlet while docked.

The port is providing up to 16 megawatts, and each ship is expected to need between 8 and 13 megawatts during its stay, said PortMiami Director and CEO Hydi Webb in an interview with the Miami Herald

The power comes from individual substations built by Florida Power and Light at each terminal. The port also has its own larger FPL substation.

“People outside the port won’t be impacted,” Webb said. “We’re not taking away from anyone else.”

The new innovation is a way to make cruise ships more environmentally friendly. It could also make cruising more appealing to younger crowds, who place an importance on sustainability in their consumption patterns.

It’s also a move to get Miami-Dade County closer to its goals of reaching a 50% carbon reduction by 2030 and 100% by 2050, said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava in an interview with the Herald.

PortMiami will bring ships onto shore power gradually, starting with Carnival’s Conquest this week. Every three to four weeks, a new ship will give it a go.

The next in line are Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas, Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Joy, and MSC Cruises’ Magnifica.

The port’s goal is to connect 21 cruise ships to shore power by year’s end.

The costs are significant but Levine Cava, who has been advocating for shore power since she was a county commissioner, thinks they will more than pay off given the importance of cruising to South Florida’s economy.

The costs to Miami-Dade County to build the shore power program was about $125 million, or about $25 million per terminal, according to PortMiami. Of that, PortMiami obtained $21.7 million in grants, including $19.7 million from the Florida Department of Transportation and $2 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The investments in building terminals were much greater. Five terminals cost the County about $434 million.

Levine Cava said ultimately that having cleaner ships “creates more excitement and interest in our port,” meaning more business.

How many outlets are on the carnival breeze?

I’m will be in a balcony room if that helps.

I’ve also read that “surge protectors” aren’t allowed, but I don’t know the physical difference between a normal power strip & a power strip with surge protectors.

Ship that size, there must be thousands.

Sorry, I didn’t clarify, but per room. Not on the entire ship. Lol

Saint Greg

There is also usually one in the bathroom as well
I wouldn’t count on the bathroom one. The ships I’ve seen that on have been the ones with wall mounted hairdryers and the outlet on the dryer says “shavers only.” I believe Breeze has the hairdryer in the dresser drawer. There are no outlets visible in my Breeze bathroom pics.

What is the round, 3 hole outlet for?

I think that one might be for a international plug in adapter? I’m pretty sure that’s it, but I could be wrong.

That is a Schuko receptacle. It is the outlet found in most Central European homes. It has 220 volts and would damage North American products made only for 120 volt electricity.

You can safely use that higher voltage on many cell phone chargers and laptop power supplies that are marked for 100 to 220 volts. These automatically adjust to the voltage sent to them. Amazon has adapters to allow one to use the outlet with North American plugs. Make sure any adapter you buy does NOT have a surge suppressor, as these are fire hazard when used with shipboard power systems.

Or just use the two regular outlets...and a regular power strip if more are needed.

There are no "physical" differences between a surge protected power strip and one that isn't, with the possible exception that some will have a small green LED that says "protected" on surge protected models. You have to check the packaging or the fine print cast into the power strip to see if terms like "surge protected", "joules of protection" or "clamping voltage" are there. If so, the power strip is surge protected. The $6 power strip from Home Depot is an example of one that is not surge protected.

beachbum53

On every ship we've been on (including the Breeze), the outlet in the bathroom is typically near the right-hand upper corner of the mirror. The outlet is connected to the same switch that turns the bathroom light on and off. Just thought you should know that in case you're planning to plug a night light into that outlet. We always bring a battery powered night light.

It's for George Costanza to plug in the "Frogger" machine.

Yes. It may be a part of the light fixture above the mirror, and not immediately noticeable.

Thanks. I'll take a look on Dream.

Also there are 2x 220 behind the bed for lamps, if you needed something closer that could use 110/220 just get an adapter plug as stated before (the 2x round prong one) and you're all set!

Can someone point me to an official Carnival document prohibiting surge protected power strips? I used one on my last cruise (Carnival Pride, 2017) without any comments from the cabin stewards and it was in plain sight with the "protected" light illuminated. A search for the terms "surge", "protector", "outlet", "electric(al)" and "power" yielded no results in the Carnival Cruise Ticket Contract, Safety and Security policy and Passenger Bill of Rights documents online. Thanks.

From Carnival's home page, found in the "F.A.Q." section: https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2261/kw/power%20strip/session/L3RpbWUvMTUzMTI0MTIxOS9zaWQvZlVIY3RabEptSGJ1X0pwWHp4a18zNlNjUlF0MWRPJTdFdjM1TFdENnRkeXQ1UkJsUUo2bGJ2WUR5QlUlN0VOVGE5aklLOThybDZoYnB1YjNiWWtUR1BxbVBIb0FSN0pTTiU3RWxjVHQlN0VwUXQ4VkZKWlN1ZVI2ZU9ISzVvM2clMjElMjE%3D

Under the "Exemptions" section, read the third bullet point regarding power strips.

You can get a legit one at the dollar store. I've been using the same dollar store one on cruises for five years. Why put everyone on the ship at risk over a dollar?

See the below post from chengkp75 who has written on this subject many times:

While these frequently do make it through security, these are surge protected, and are not allowed. Whether or not you get it past security, know that even if your Belkin surge protector is in perfect condition, and operating normally, and you are present when it is in use, that an accidental ground anywhere else on the ship , outside of your control, can cause the semi-conductors in the surge protector to go into thermal run-away and cause a fire very quickly. Also, the more times the surge protector is subjected to shipboard wiring (possibility of reverse voltage on the semi-conductors), the quicker the semi-conductors will fail, even in their normal mode, and fail to protect your electronics.   Further, know that none of the ship's electronics, from the POS registers, to the computer servers, to the myriad desktop computers, to the navigation equipment, to the engine room automation that keeps the lights lit and the propellers turning, are protected by surge protectors, as they are not needed . Ships do not experience the voltage surges that affect homes and businesses ashore.

Thank you. I guess since what I brought was not an extension cord with surge protector, but rather a multi-plug adaptor, they didn't have a problem with it. I bring it more for the two USB charging ports than the electrical outlets.

Carnival Conquest becomes first cruise ship to connect to shore power at PortMiami

CruiseMapper logo

Shore power is now available for ships docked at PortMiami (Florida USA) . At a celebratory event on Monday, June 17, the Carnival Conquest , representing Carnival Corporation & plc , the world's largest cruise company , was announced as the first cruise ship to utilize landside electrical power at PortMiami, the cruise capital of the world.

This advancement is the result of a collaborative effort between Miami-Dade County, Florida Power & Light Company, and several cruise lines, including Carnival Corporation. PortMiami is now the first major cruise port on the U.S. eastern seaboard to offer shore power connections at 5 cruise berths.

The selection of Carnival Conquest for the inaugural connection at PortMiami follows Carnival Corporation's achievement of surpassing its 2030 shore power goal in 2023, 7 years ahead of schedule. The company now leads the industry with 67% of its fleet shore power-capable, which is double the number of ships than there are ports equipped to provide shore power.

Shore power allows cruise operators to switch off ship engines while in port and connect to the local electric grid to power onboard systems and equipment. This method can reduce total emissions by up to 98%, depending on the energy source mix. Carnival Corporation is committed to using shoreside electricity when available and operationally feasible, and is working closely with ports worldwide to invest in this capability.

Carnival Corporation's current shore power achievements include:

  • Two-thirds of the company's global fleet, 64 ships, are equipped with shore power capabilities and are ready to connect where port connections are available.
  • Nearly half of its global cruise lines' fleets are fully shore power-capable.
  • An additional three ships will be outfitted with shore power capabilities this year, and a recent agreement with Switzerland-based ABB Group will help install 30 additional shore power connections on Carnival Corporation ships in the coming years.

Shore power is one of many emission reduction technologies employed by Carnival Corporation to reduce fuel use as part of its overall decarbonization strategy and pursuit of net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. Due to the aggressive and ongoing actions taken across the fleet, Carnival Corporation is producing over 10% less total GHG emissions today than in 2011, despite a roughly 30% increase in capacity during that time.

As far as I know, this is for all Carnival ships.

All cabins have ONE outlet that has both a 3 prong 110 and a 220.

The outlet in the bathroom is for shavers only.

Last cruise (on Conquest, which is the same as Liberty), I took a little surge protector that had extra outlets and USB ports. I don't normally advocate plugging multiple items, but used it at night to charge my camera battery as well as my phone. I always unplugged it when not in use.

I believe cabins have only one outlet for a reason. Bringing power strips and loading them up with the entire family's toys and having a few hundred cabins doing this seems to just be begging to start an electrical fire.

Don't know about anyone else, but that thought scares the crap out of me! There's a REASON that cabins have only one outlet!

Sorry for the mini-rant. Just a suggestion to people that if you feel you must have extra outlets, please bring something that is a surge protector and not just a power strip. And know that you may not be able to board with it.

Oh, and my little surge protector did not work on Fantasy because of the location of the plug (couldn't plug it in). There are some that have a swivel that should work on that class ship.

Thanks for the quick reply and I'm not upset about the rant either... agree about the way too many toys on vaca thing. Shar

The Triumph has two (three prong) 115v outlets in balcony cabins, about three feet apart at the base of the mirror.

LOL! Did you read the question?

So, what do I know? :p
