Clarence Greenwood , who performs as Citizen Cope , announced his Winter Tour 2022 today celebrating music from his professional career over the past two decades.

Known for his uniquely soulful sound, Cope will perform songs from across his catalog for a North American outing that will kick off in Savannah, Georgia on Jan. 7, 2022.

The majority of dates will feature acoustic performances while his shows in Washington DC, New York, and Boston will include backing by a full band. Additionally, Cope’s Boston date will be a celebratory show as it falls on the 20th anniversary of the release of his self-titled debut album.

Citizen Cope Announces 20th Anniversary Tour Dates

Citizen Cope   will deliver a lengthy run of tour dates throughout the first half of 2022. The acclaimed alt-rock singer-songwriter, born  Clarence Greenwood , will continue the celebration of his storied 20-year career from April through June following the end of his winter tour .

After starting off in Minneapolis, MN on April 14th, Citizen Cope will make his way across the Midwest before heading through the Southeast. Greenwood will embark on a four-night run of Texas starting on April 21st in Houston, followed by stops in Austin (4/22), Dallas (4/23), and San Antonio (4/24). Following stops in Tulsa, OK (4/25) and Lincoln, NE (4/27), he will link up with  Trevor Hall  for two previously-announced nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre  in Morrison, CO (4/28, 4/29).

The tour will make its way to the West Coast by way of Salt Lake City, UT (4/30) and Phoenix, AZ (5/2), setting up seven California shows over eight nights. Citizen Cope will hit San Diego (5/3), Pioneertown (5/4), Anaheim (5/5), Los Angeles (5/6), Ventura (5/7), San Francisco (5/8), and Petaluma (5/10) before sending it up the coast through Portland, OR (5/12); Seattle, WA (5/13); and Tacoma, WA (5/14). A lone Canadian date will take place on May 15th in Vancouver, BC before the tour wraps with shows in Spokane, WA (5/17); Bozeman, MT (5/18); Billings, MT (5/19); Missoula, MT (5/20); and Boise, ID (5/21).

Citizen Cope Announces Final U.S. Tour “For Some Time”

The trek kicks off on January 7

Citizen Cope has announced his final U.S. tour for the foreseeable future. The trek kicks off on January 7 at Victory North in Savannah, GA and wraps up on February 12 at the Tampa Theatre in Tampa, FL. Fan pre-sale tickets are on sale now HERE .

“2022 will be the last time I will be touring the US for some time,” he said. “Although I plan on playing some residencies in my favorite cities in 2023, I most likely will not be back to most of the cities for some time. Thank you for all of your support over the years. Peace and Love.”

The show on January 29 at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Citizen Cope’s self-titled debut album.

In 2019, Citizen Cope released Heroin and Helicopters – his first studio outing in six years.

Clarence Greenwood or better known as 'Citizen Cope' is an American blues singer mixed with soft jazzed born in Memphis, Tennessee.

Citizen Cope is Jack Johnson if someone shot him with a blues bullet and he was reincarnated. A blues Zombie!

In 2000 Citizen singed to DreamWorks record label and two years after released his self titled debut album. In 2004 he then went on to make a second album but this time produced solely by himself. 'The Clarence Greenwood Recordings' would ultimately surpass as his best work. 'Bullet and a Target' really examples Citizen's song writing dexterity. His soulful lyrics and hooks get you tapping your toes and clicking your fingers without knowing. His jazz roots are infused with the blues so cleverly and effortlessly that they come together to create a cool pop tune, like Jack Johnson.

He is a well-acknowledged songwriter and producer as he has worked with many international acts including the artist Dido. His work has appeared an many films such as Ghost Town and his song 'Son's on a Rise' was the song used for the trailer for The Son's of Anarchy.

His music is soul driving, exciting, and engaging. He is a demon on the microphone and a devil on tour. And who can't resit those dreadlocks and well kept beard. I mean, come on!

Live reviews

I had the chance to see Citizen’s Cope live at a small concert venue in somewhat close to me. I decided to go to the show with a few of my friends and I am very glad that I did. I am not typically a bluesy type of music listener but he has definitely made me a fan. It was a very mellow and laid back type of show.

Given the nature of the songs, the crowd was still very in to the concert and was attentive throughout. Citizen’s Cope also interacted with the crowd a lot and took the time to explain the meaning behind a lot of his songs which added more to the show because it felt much more personal. It always adds something more when an artist feels like he can share with his fans.

He performed on a smaller stage with minimal lighting and a small backing band to help him perform. He played songs such as Bullet and a Target, Sideways, Every Waking Moment, Healing Hands and Son’s Gonna Rise. If I was given the opportunity to see him again, I would definitely go. I have been actively searching out more of his music since the show.

Clarence Greenwood better known by his stage name Citizen Cope is very much an amalgamation of the music that he plays. His whole appearance and demeanour translates to the crowd that he lives and breaths the alternative rock and soul genres.

This means there is a sincerity and personable way in which he performs his show and you know that he sings from the heart on the likes of 'Salvation'. He keeps intermittent communications to a minimum yet makes sure he thanks his crowd sincerely for their large reaction to favourite 'Contact'. He showcases a small amount of material from new album 'One Lovely Day' which sounds slick and polished with the same levels of ingenious genre melding that first brought Cope to the attention of the masses. It is the music lifted from perhaps his most cult appreciated self-titled LP that goes down the best with the crowds and by the finale of 'Let the Drummer Kick' Clarence knows he has very much entertained in his own unique manner.

Watching and listening to Citizen Cope in the small venue "Sweetwater" was a joy! I have attended a number of live shows over the last ten plus years in larger venues with and without a band and all have been great! I really enjoyed the acoustic show at the Sweetwater though wished the audience would be more respectful of the artist they came to hear by taking conversations outside, allowing the fans to hear Cope, not them!!! Citizen finished the show with a digital accompaniment of one of his songs which kicked up the energy in the room and drowned out the din. That was a great way to end the show! I never get tired of listening to his music. Hope to see him back in the bay area again soon!

Such a good experience to bear witness to and be in such close proximity to someone I have wanted to see live for a long while ....

A brilliant and humble performance for a gentleman who visibly enjoyed the crowd as we enjoyed having him sing for his supper. His songs all translate so well to the format of the night as an acoustic performance

The set wasn't short either, he played a number of songs went of for an interval, came back played his main set and then came back again when we all called 'encore' and did not just a couple but around six more songs

I got the pleasure of seeing citizens cope in St. Petersburg, F.L. At Janice landing in 2010. My best friend knew how much I loved Citizens Cope, so she bought me tickets for my 21st birthday. Definitely the best birthday, between the love my BFF showed me, and the love at that venue was pivotal. What an amazing experience. You see, Citizens Cope has helped me get through some of the hardest times of my life. Fan for life. I seem to miss out every time he’s back in town, There is always something. I’m very sad I missed the 20th anniversary tour. Fingers crossed for 2023, even if I have to go alone. With Love, Mary.

If Clarence Greenwood is one of the most 'pure' musicians I have had the pleasure of seeing. He and his music are one. Friday night, other than being a bit warm, Stubbs provided the perfect setting for CG and the audience to celebrate the extensive Citizen Cope catalog. He likes quiet, respectful, observant crowds for his solo acoustic performances so that the softer, more personal side of the tunes can be revealed and the ATX crowd was right on. Several great sing alongs and back-to-back-to-back...amazing, intimate performances. It was Cope #7 for me and there will definitely be a #8.

I'm struggling to find the words that would describe just how amazing the show was. I've never been able to see citizen cope live and love the union chapel so was hoping for something special. He did not disappoint! Even though it was a solo acoustic show the songs were just as gorgeous and his voice is insane. Running through songs across all of the albums and at one point even taking suggestions from the crowd. Played for over 2 hours but the crowd could have stayed for more. Loved it!!!

FANTASTIC! Soulful, sexy, great flow, incredible song writing and performance -- great show. Huge thumbs up--Cope was MUCH beloved by the packed DC audience! Minimal fluff as show was straightforward and the music spoke for itself... just good stuff.

A fantastic show and audience. Cope is a true artist. His love for his audience and the groove really shines through. If you're tired of the same pop and looking for artistry in song writing and performing, Citizen Cope is a must-see.

Amazing band in a very cool venue! Not a bad seat in the house. First set was an hour and a half straight! With little effort we were able to get very close to the stage. Made for a truly intimate experience.

Citizen Cope Announces Winter Tour 2022

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Clarence Greenwood aka Citizen Cope, has announced his Winter Tour 2022. The tour will celebrate the artists’ beloved and critically-acclaimed body of work which spans over two decades. 

Known for his uniquely powerful and soulful sound, Citizen Cope will kick off his North American tour in Savannah, Ga. on Jan. 7, 2022, making stops in cities across the U.S. and Canada. The majority of the dates will feature his signature smooth acoustic performances, while shows in Washington DC (Jan. 27), New York (Jan. 28), and Boston (Jan. 29) will include Alice Smith and a full backing band. 

Citizen Cope’s Jan. 29 Boston performance will be a celebratory show as it falls on the 20th anniversary of the release of his self-titled debut album, Citizen Cope .

Citizen cope to celebrate 20 years with spring 2022 tour.

After playing 20 years of his signature, soulful playing, Citizen Cope will celebrate his storied career with a Spring 2022 Anniversary Tour .

The grassroots songwriter and producer will kick off the 34-date Spring tour on April 14th at Minneapolis, MN’s Varsity Theatre and will continue making rounds throughout the United States and Canada. After co-headlining Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre alongside Trevor Hall on April 28th and 29th, Cope will head West to Salt Lake City, UT’s The Depot on April 30th. The singer will continue to tour throughout all of May and finish off with three tour dates in June, complete with a hometown headlining show at Washington, D.C.’s The Anthem on June 18th.

Additionally, Cope’s run of shows will feature a full live band and mark the first time touring with renowned DC Go-Go rhythm section – drummer Paul “Buggy’ Edwards (Back Yard), Mike “Funky Ned” Neal (Rare Essence), and keyboardist XZ , who worked on Cope’s 2019 album, Heroin and Helicopters .

About Citizen Cope

Citizen Cope aka Clarence Greenwood is an American songwriter/producer. He has released seven studio LPs that have garnered him a loyal following despite never being fully embraced by mainstream media and commercial radio. Describing his music is difficult, he’s been inspired by artists such as John Lennon and Stevie Wonder to Bob Marley and Outkast. Citizen Cope’s compositions have been recorded by Carlos Santana, Dido, and Richie Havens. In 20 years of touring, he has built a devout following, performing at sold-out theaters and ballrooms across the country. Over time, Cope’s music has become the soundtrack to the lives of those who have embraced it and he continues to inspire audiences through what can only be described as a deep personal connection.
