A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy (A Journey Through... Book 3) Kindle Edition
This non-fiction short-form eBook features content which is adapted from the audiobook Harry Potter: A History of Magic - inspired by the British Library exhibition of the same name. If you've gazed into the crystal ball you'll have seen that you are about to enter a place of prediction and fortune-telling that makes up the subject of Divination in the real and wizarding world. From the use of bones and shells thousands of years ago, to peering into teacups in the parlours of Victorian England, for millennia people have strived to see what fate and fortune holds. Trying to read our destinies, the study of the night sky has fascinated people for centuries, from the star atlases of ancient China to the celestial globes of 17th-century Venice. Astronomy holds a special place in the wizarding world as a source of inspiration and identity for Harry Potter's life at Hogwarts, and beyond. This eBook short examines the colourful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic, and how they relate to the Hogwarts lesson subjects of Divination and Astronomy. The history of magic is as long as time and as wide as the world. In every culture, in every age, in every place and, probably, in every heart, there is magic.

- The non-fiction eBook shorts will dive into the traditional folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter series .
Calling all Harry Potter fans!
J.K. Rowling—the author behind the story of The Boy Who Lived—is releasing four new books through Pottermore Publishing .
Each of the e-books will center around the lessons Harry, Ron, and Hermione had to take while attending Hogwarts. The non-fiction stories will teach readers about "the traditional folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter stories," according to a press release .
The titles, which will all be published this summer, are:
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Potions and Herbology
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures
"It seems part of human nature to want to believe in the unbelievable: from the bestiaries and cabinets of curiosities of the medieval period onwards,” the statement reads. "We think that truth and myth are easily distinguished today, but magical creatures and the stories around them continue to fascinate us—and they are as central to the Harry Potter stories as Harry, Hermione and Ron."
The four e-books will also include manuscript pages, notes, and sketches from Rowling's time writing the original Harry Potter books. Pottermore describes them as "a chance to absorb the colourful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic in a more compact form."
We'll be first in line to purchase these magical books. Until then, excuse us while we re-read the originals.
According to iNews , " Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts " and " Potions and Herbology " will be published on June 27. You can pre-order them now!

J.K. Rowling is releasing 4 new ‘Harry Potter’ stories—And they’re coming soon
Reminder: Two of the books are out now!

Lovers of the “Harry Potter” series, I hope you’re sitting down for this news: J.K. Rowling is releasing even more stories about the “Harry Potter” universe!
The stories come in the form of a collection of e-books titled, “Harry Potter: A Journey Through…” The books will feature non-fiction short stories that have been adapted from the audiobook, “ Harry Potter: A History of Magic . ”
The text is accompanied by illustrations from London-based artist Rohan Daniel Eason, and the first two dropped June 27 with the second two releasing in July. At $2.99 each, these are affordable must-reads for Potter fanatics.
This is how the Pottermore website describes the stories:
“The series features four bite-sized reads, each themed by Hogwarts lessons, and will take you back in time once again to learn about the traditional folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter stories.”
The four stories you have to look forward to are:
1. ‘Harry Potter: A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts’
This book dives into the real history of magic, including the characters and events that helped inspire Rowling’s take on charms and dark arts defense.
“Warding off evil is also something that has concerned people throughout history ,” the description says. “From werewolves to all manner of snakes in the wizarding world, you’d learn how to face a number of strange and frightening forces in Defence Against the Dark Arts classes.”
2. ‘Harry Potter: A Journey Through Potions and Herbology’
“Potions have been made for thousands of years – associated with bubbling pots and mysterious ingredients, they have been brewed to make medicines, drugs and poisons,” the description reads. “Plants have also been important components of medicines as much as myth-making and magic. A source of danger as well as a means of overcoming obstacles, Herbology was a subject which had a major bearing on Harry’s key decisions and mistakes in the wizarding world.”
3. ‘Harry Potter: A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy’
While Divination and Astronomy were far from Harry’s favorite Hogwarts courses, there’s plenty of historical backing for the subjects’ importance at the school — and this ebook dives into it.
“From the use of bones and shells thousands of years ago, to peering into teacups in the parlours of Victorian England, for millennia people have strived to see what fate and fortune holds,” the description reads. “Trying to read our destinies, the study of the night sky has fascinated people for centuries, from the star atlases of ancient China to the celestial globes of 17th-century Venice.”
Pre-order now; available July 25 .
4. ‘Harry Potter: A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures’
For those who share Hagrid’s love of magical creatures, this is the book for you.
“In the past, naturalists and explorers traveled the globe to encounter weird and wonderful creatures that enhanced our knowledge of the world and pushed forward the development of science,” the description reads. “Nevertheless, it seems part of human nature to want to believe in the unbelievable: from the bestiaries and cabinets of curiosities of the medieval period onwards. We think that truth and myth are easily distinguished today, but magical creatures and the stories around them continue to fascinate us — and they are as central to the Harry Potter stories as Harry, Hermione and Ron.”
Pre-order today; available July 25 .
This exciting news came by way of Twitter, in which the Pottermore Twitter account teased the upcoming launch:
“Ever wondered where magic really came from? Introducing the Harry Potter: A Journey Through… non-fiction eBook shorts, adapted from the audiobook Harry Potter: A History of Magic and inspired by the @ britishlibrary exhibition of the same name,” the publishing house captioned the tweet.

Once “Harry Potter” fans heard the news, they couldn’t help but proclaim their excitement on social media.
Twitter user @abukosmik expressed his desire for the new shorts, saying “this is what i need”:
this is what i need — angin (@abukosmik) May 24, 2019
Some people are already thinking about what these books will do to their bank accounts, as Twitter user @CrossBreed2197 noted, fans “can’t /NOT/ spend money on Harry Potter”:
I can't /NOT/ spend money on Harry Potter and you manipulate me like this ? I'm trying to save money, my dude … how dare you put me in this position @pottermore — Alex Cross (@CrossBreed2197) May 24, 2019
Others, such as Twitter user @carrie_ward01, are already planning to read this while on summer vacation, presumably visiting Universal Studios’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — which seems like a pretty great idea:
New Harry Potter stories coming out next month! Just in time for our trip to @UniversalORL Thank you @jk_rowling ! — Carrie (@Mme_deBohun) May 30, 2019
Want to learn more about Harry’s world without spending any money? If so, Pottermore may be for you.
Pottermore has long been a site for the most enthusiastic Potter fans. Not only does it feature news about the franchise, it includes exclusive content about the world that J.K. Rowling created, from bios of minor characters to treatises on the wizarding world’s favorite sport, Quidditch. Once you sign up for a free account, you get sorted into a house with a personality quiz, and you can also take quizzes to determine the makeup of your wand as well as your Patronis.
Though the site was once more interactive, Common Sense Media says it is still a good space for Potter fans aged 10 and above (content is safe for younger kids, although there are mentions of creatures that might be scary, as well as deaths from the books) to find out everything they want to know about the Potterverse. If you’re interested in articles on the best and worst jobs for wizards , additional information on portkeys or anything else, this is where to go!
So, whether you plan to shell out the price of these ebooks or not, you can still find plenty of great information about Potter and friends through Pottermore. Many of the pieces have been written by Rowling herself, so it really is a great way to find out how the author envisions the world and how she’s built it up over time. And Pottermore is free!
Potter fans can also enjoy communities online to find out information and share their love of the franchise (either movies or books) with like-minded people. The Facebook group Platform 9 3/4 , for example, currently boasts more than 30,000 members. They can join Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff houses — whichever one they relate to most — to chat with others (about anything from celebrities they’ve seen to tips for visiting Universal Studio’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter ) and earn points for their houses.
Members do this by participating in daily challenges, posting Harry Potter merch they’ve purchased, taking “lessons” from teachers, and joining fan fiction and other contests. On occasion, the Facebook group has even held Triwizard Cup tournaments.
If you’re a true Potterhead, one of these online pages might be a great place to hang out! They can help you nourish your fan proclivities, beyond just reading the officially released books. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
Here’s to making those summer reading lists a little longer and more “Harry Potter”-filled!
Happy reading, Muggles!

How to Complete Harry Potter Books in Order ~ All 20!
Have you read the Harry Potter series?
If not, you might be wondering what is the order of the Harry Potter books ? And, do you have to read the Harry Potter books in order ? Or maybe, can I get a list of the Harry Potter books in order? In this post, I’ll address all of those questions and much more!
Why Read the Harry Potter Books in order
The fact of the matter is that reading the Harry Potter books in order is important!
The books follow the life of young Harry Potter from 11 years old through 18 years old. Each book is a complete school year, so the order of the Harry Potter books is pretty important. It could get very confusing if you don’t know the storyline.
Harry Potter and my family
Harry Potter has been part of my family’s story since before my kids were born. They grew up on Harry Potter, and Harry Potter has been part of our family vacations over the years.
We have been reading our way through all the Harry Potter books in order and checking them off our Bucket List
Harry Potter Books in Order
There are 7 Books in the original Harry Potter series. And, as I mentioned earlier, reading the Harry Potter books in order is important. Along with this list of Harry Potter books, I also have a list of Harry Potter additional books you will want to take a look at.
You might be wondering what is the order of the Harry Potter books? The most important book, in my opinion, is Harry Potter’s first book.
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
This first book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone , welcomes you into the magical world that JK Rowling created.
Growing up with his aunt, uncle, and cousin who barely tolerates him, Harry is surprised on this eleventh birthday to learn that he’s different and special.
Harry learns that he is a wizard and that an incredible adventure is about to begin!
2. Harry Potter and Chamber of Secrets
Continuing the Harry Potter books in order, the next up is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets which starts Harry’s second year at Hogwarts. If he can make it there…
Harry Potter’s summer has included the worst birthday ever, doomy warnings from a house-elf called Dobby, and a daring rescue from the Dursleys by his friend Ron Weasley in a magical flying car!
Back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his second year, Harry hears strange whispers echo through empty corridors – and then the attacks start. Students are found as though turned to stone…
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The next on our list of Harry Potter books is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban .
The summer is long a grueling for Harry, having to stay with the Dursleys all summer. But when Aunt Marge shows up, Harry can’t stand it anymore.
After running away, Harry is picked up by the Knight Bus and another extraordinary year begins.
This one includes an escaped mass murderer on the loose, the followers of Lord Voldemort start ramping things up a bit, and new classes are added to Harry’s school schedule!
4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The fourth book in the Harry Potter book order is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire .
This is an exciting year in the wizarding community. The World Quidditch Cup is being held and the Weasley’s have invited Harry to join them. And, at school, the exciting and dangerous Triwizard Tournament is being held at Hogwarts.
But, someone is out to get Harry hurt, or worse. His name winds up in the tournament and so he will face death-defying tasks, dragons, and Dark wizards.
But with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through – alive!
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
While continuing our way through the Harry Potter books in order, the next up is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix .
Dark times have come to Hogwarts. After the Dementors’ attack on his cousin Dudley, Harry Potter knows that Voldemort will stop at nothing to find him.
There are many who deny the Dark Lord’s return, but Harry is not alone: a secret order gathers at Grimmauld Place to fight against the Dark forces.
Harry must allow Professor Snape to teach him how to protect himself from Voldemort’s savage assaults on his mind. But they are growing stronger by the day and Harry is running out of time…
6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
The sixth on the list of Harry Potter books is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince .
When Dumbledore arrives at Privet Drive one summer night to collect Harry Potter, his wand hand is blackened and shriveled, but he does not reveal why.
Secrets and suspicion are spreading through the wizarding world, and Hogwarts itself is not safe.
Harry will need powerful magic and true friends as he explores Voldemort’s darkest secrets, and Dumbledore prepares him to face his destiny…
7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
When reading the Harry Potter books in order, the final book of the original series is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows . This is a huge book (which is why it took 2 movies to make it), but it wraps up the series nicely!
As he climbs into the sidecar of Hagrid’s motorbike and takes to the skies, leaving Privet Drive for the last time, Harry Potter knows that Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters are not far behind.
The protective charm that has kept Harry safe until now is broken, but he cannot keep hiding. The Dark Lord is breathing fear into everything Harry loves and to stop him Harry will have to find and destroy the remaining Horcruxes.
The final battle must begin – Harry must stand and face his enemy …
Harry Potter Additional Books
Harry potter and the cursed child.
So, if you’re reading the Harry Potter books in order, this would be the next chronologically. This is the playscript for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child , the wildly popular show in London! It is set after the Harry Potter series concludes.
Here’s the summary:
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.
As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
The Hogwart’s Library Collection
From this point on, it’s not as important to read the rest of these Harry Potter extra books in order.
This collection of three books is called the Library Collection. They are each referenced multiple times throughout the Harry Potter book series.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the textbook that the movie of the same name is based on. The movie script is further down this list of Harry Potter books.
This book is the textbook Harry and his classmates used in class at Hogwarts. And while if we wanted to be chronological with the textbooks, it would break up the 7 books in the series. Since I’m not really a fan of that, I’ve chosen to put these Harry Potter books in order by when they came out.
Newt Scamander’s masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world.
Scamander’s years of travel and research have created a tome of unparalleled importance.
Some of the beasts will be familiar to readers of the Harry Potter books – the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail… Others will surprise even the most ardent amateur Magizoologist. Dip in to discover the curious habits of magical beasts across five continents…
Quidditch Through the Ages
Probably the only book in the Hogwarts library that Harry actually read, Quidditch Through the Ages contains all you will ever need to know about the history, the rules – and the breaking of the rules – of the noble sport of Quidditch.
Packed with fascinating facts, this definitive guide by the esteemed Quidditch writer Kennilworthy Whisp charts the game’s history from its early origins in the medieval mists on Queerditch Marsh, through to the modern-day sport loved by so many wizard and Muggle families around the world.
With comprehensive coverage of famous Quidditch teams, the commonest fouls, the development of racing brooms, and much more, this is a must-have sporting bible for all Harry Potter fans, Quidditch lovers and players, whether the weekend amateur or the seasoned Chudley Cannons season-ticket holder.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard
While we muggles grow up with the Grimm Brothers’ tales of Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel, children in the wizarding world children grow up learning the Tales of Beedle the Bard .
This book winds up playing a starring role in book seven of the Harry Potter book series. Ron is stunned when neither Harry nor Hermione knew the story of the Three Brothers, also known as the Deathly Hallows tale.
Pottermore Presents series
This series is a fun group of Harry Potter additional books. Unlike some of the other books, this short series doesn’t build in plot development from one to the next. So you don’t need to worry about reading these Harry Potter books in order.
This series of books were released only on e-book from JK Rowling and her Pottermore website.
In these books, Rowling gives behind-the-scenes information on some of our favorite characters, beasts, and our favorite castle!
Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies (book 1)
Book One in the Pottermore Presents series is Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies .
These stories profile two of the Harry Potter book series’ most courageous and iconic characters: Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin.
J.K. Rowling also gives us a peek behind the closed curtains of Sybill Trelawney’s life, and you’ll encounter the reckless, magical-beast-loving Silvanus Kettleburn along the way.
Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists (book 2)
The second book in the Pottermore Presents series is Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists .
These stories give us a glimpse into the darker side of the wizarding world.
They reveal the ruthless roots of Professor Umbridge, the lowdown on the Ministers for Magic, the history of the wizarding prison Azkaban and of course Peeves, everyone’s favorite poltergeist.
You will also delve deeper into Horace Slughorn’s early years as Potions master at Hogwarts – and his acquaintance with one Tom Marvolo Riddle.
Hogwarts: An Incomplete & Unreliable Guide (book 3)
The third and final book in the Pottermore Presents series is Hogwarts An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide .
This book takes us on a journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You’ll venture into the Hogwarts grounds, become better acquainted with its more permanent residents, learn more about lessons taught at Hogwarts and discover secrets of the castle . . . all at the turn of a page.
A Journey Through series
As you can already see, there is quite a long list of Harry Potter books. And, we’re just getting started. And, as mentioned earlier, it’s not nearly as important to read these Harry Potter additional books in order.
This Harry Potter book series is based on the exhibit at the British Library about Harry Potter.
These books dive into the classes at Hogwarts and give behind-the-scenes information about them.
A History of Magic: A Journey Through Charms & Defence Against the Dark Arts (Book 1)
The first book in the Harry Potter Journey Through series is A History Of Magic: A Journey Through Charms & Defence Against the Dark Arts .
How to become invisible, to make someone fall in love with you, to transform into another creature: these are all things that people have believed in, yearned for, or feared, throughout history.
Spells and charms have captured the imagination for hundreds of years. Warding off evil is also something that has concerned people throughout history.
From werewolves to all manner of snakes in the wizarding world, you’d learn how to face a number of strange and frightening forces in Defence Against the Dark Arts classes.
This eBook short examines the colorful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic, and how they relate to the Hogwarts lesson subjects of Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts.
A History of Magic: A Journey Through Potions & Herbology (Book 2)
The second book in the Journey Through series is A History of Magic: A Journey Through Potions and Herbology .
Potions have been made for thousands of years – associated with bubbling pots and mysterious ingredients, they have been brewed to make medicines, drugs, and poisons.
Harry Potter became much better at Potions with a little help from the Half-Blood Prince in the sixth book of the Harry Potter series.
Plants have also been important components of medicines as much as myth-making and magic. A source of danger as well as a means of overcoming obstacles, Herbology was a subject that had a major bearing on Harry’s key decisions and mistakes in the wizarding world.
This eBook short examines the colorful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic, and how they relate to the Hogwarts lesson subjects of Potions and Herbology.
A History of Magic: A Journey Through Divination & Astronomy (Book 3)
The third book in the Journey Through series is A History of Magic: A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy .
Harry, Ron and Hermione started taking Divination in their third year at Hogwarts. While Hermione didn’t finish the class, Ron and Harry did – even though they thought it was a bunch of bunk.
Gazing in crystal balls, reading tea leaves, studying dreams and trying to predict the future is what Divination is all about at Hogwarts.
Astronomy holds a special place in the wizarding world as a source of inspiration and identity for Harry Potter’s life at Hogwarts, and beyond.
This eBook short examines the colorful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic, and how they relate to the Hogwarts lesson subjects of Divination and Astronomy.
A History of Magic: A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures (Book 4)
The fourth book in the Journey Through series is A History Of Magic: A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures .
Well-known creatures from folklore like giants, dragons and merpeople, and lesser-known beings such as Acromantula and Hippogriffs, all play a key role in Harry Potter’s journey.
We think that truth and myth are easily distinguished today, but magical creatures and the stories around them continue to fascinate us – and they are as central to the Harry Potter book series as Harry, Hermione and Ron.
This eBook short examines the colorful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic, and how they relate to the Hogwarts lesson subjects of Care of Magical Creatures.
Fantastic Beasts (Screenplay) series
If you wanted to read the Harry Potter books in order chronologically, these would be first on the list. But, since this series isn’t complete yet, I’m going to leave it down here.
This successful and popular movie series is a precursor to the original Harry Potter book series. It explores some of the characters that we know and love in Harry Potter along with some new ones.
We are also introduced to the magical community in the United States.
The first book, well screenplay, in this new Harry Potter series is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them .
Newt Scamander, Uk Magizoologist and author of the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , is coming to New York for a brief stopover.
But, when his magical case is misplaced, some of his fantastic beasts escape, and muggles get involved, his time in America is extended.
Chaos erupts and it spells trouble for everyone! But, it’s not all Newts fault or is it…
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
The second in the Fantastic Beasts series is The Crimes of Grindelwald .
At the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured in New York with the help of Newt Scamander.
But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escapes custody and sets about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists Newt, his former Hogwarts student, who agrees to help once again, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.
Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Fantastic Beasts: 3
There isn’t any information available about this movie yet, except that it is due out in November of 2021 ! Because of Coronavirus, the movie schedule has been pushed back. There is no new date at the time of publication.

J.K. Rowling to release four new 'Harry Potter' e-books
The magic continues! J.K. Rowling is providing readers with a new look into the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
After the immense success of her seven book series, Rowling launched Pottermore, an immersive website that quickly grew into a large content and e-commerce platform in 2011.
Over the years, Rowling released "bonus content" books. These include Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them -- and a play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, based around the Harry Potter series.
According to Pottermore, a new series of Harry Potter e-books will be released this summer.
Now, four new stories will be available online. All of them will focus on life and classes at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. The stories include lessons about the care of magical creatures, defense against the dark arts, astronomy, potions and herbology.
Four e-book "shorts" will be released on June 27. Rowling has released their titles:
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy
- Harry Potter: A Journey Through Potions and Herbology

10 things we know so far about jk rowling's new harry potter books (& what it means for the cinematic universe).
Pottermore just announced that J.K Rowling will release four eBooks based in the Harry Potter universe starting on June 27—here's everything we know.
A post on Pottermore has announced that J.K Rowling is set to release some new eBooks based in the Harry Potter universe starting on June 27 of this year. The main seven-book Harry Potter series was completed back in 2007. However, JK Rowling has since released several other titles based in the same world, with this new ebook series being the latest.

Most recently the Hogwarts curriculum book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , has been adapted into its own spin-off series. While Fantastic Beasts offers us a glimpse in wizarding history, these upcoming books are set to explore a different side to Hogwarts. Here’s what we know so far.
There Will Be Four Fully-Illustrated Books In Total
Rowling’s Pottermore Publishing is releasing these upcoming ebooks, of which there will be four. The first two will be released on June 27 with the third and fourth books said to follow soon after.
RELATED: 10 Things From Harry Potter That Kids These Days Won't Understand
All four ebooks have been illustrated by London-based artist Rohan Daniel Eason and will be available in English, French, Italian, and German. These ebooks are likely to be similar to titles such as Quidditch through the Ages , and Rowling considers them to be nonfiction.
The Series Is Inspired By The 2017 Library Display
The eBook shorts will be called Harry Potter: A Journey Through… and they'll be adapted from the audiobook Harry Potter: A History of Magic . The audiobook and accompanying hardback book were in turn inspired by the British Library exhibition with the same name.
The exhibition contained rare books, manuscripts, and objects from the British Library’s collection. These were said to capture the traditions of magic that underpin the Harry Potter series. They included a 16 th century Ripley Scroll which explained how to create a Philosopher’s Stone.
The Books Are Themed By Hogwarts Lessons
Each of the short books is inspired by a different lesson from Hogwarts. The first will take you through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts and the second though Potions and Herbology. These two titles will make up the first part of the series. The second half will comprise of book three, A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy , and book four, A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures.
RELATED: Harry Potter: 10 Times Ron Should Definitely Have Been Expelled (Or Imprisoned In Azkaban)
The titles as a whole cover the entire Hogwarts curriculum, with the exception of History of Magic itself. It looks set to offer some insight into the subjects studied by Harry and his cohorts.
They Contain Some Intriguing Extras
The books will explore the origins of magic through history and folklore. They will offer deeper insight into the areas which wizards and witches study. Alongside this, they will also feature notes, manuscript pages, and sketches, as previously seen in Harry Potter: A History of Magic.
This book was originally published to celebrate twenty years of Harry Potter and contains an in-depth look at the history of magic. These adapted ebooks look likely to contain similar information but in bitesize chunks.
There Should Be Some New Material
While diehard Harry Potter fans may wonder if there is a point to these books, they are likely to contain at least some new material. This is despite being based on previously published books.
RELATED: Harry Potter: 10 Scenes We Wished The Movies Had Shown
The Pottermore post mentions some new line drawings as well as some content from the audiobook, which readers may not have heard. Hopefully, this is also combined with a few new things to discover about the history of magic and the content of the Hogwarts curriculum.
They Aren’t Telling A New Story
There is no new story contained within these books and there will be no new characters. They are purely focused on magical history and giving more details about the Wizarding World itself, rather than its inhabitants.
Harry Potter as a series concluded with Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows , and that won't be changing any time soon. These new titles are simply extra content for fans to read in order to further their knowledge of the Wizarding World. Given what we know about the library exhibition, they are also likely to feature information about the real-world inspiration behind the magic in the books.
What Does This Mean For The Cinematic Universe?
So far, the bulk of the Harry Potter cinematic universe focuses on the core series of seven books. Split over eight movies, we see the story of Harry Potter's journey through Hogwarts played out on the big screen. The cinematic universe may well expand in the future, but these new titles aren't likely to be related.
While they may help add some details to any Hogwarts lessons we see on screen, their relevance to the wider cinematic universe is negligible at best. There are many journeys to explore within Harry's world, but they all take place outside of these new ebooks.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was such a successful concept that it spawned its very own franchise. The reason it has been so successful is that the book itself explored aspects of the life of Newt Scamander, which later intermingles with other characters we see or hear about in Harry Potter . It also explores aspects of the Wizarding World that are only touched upon in the main series. By discovering Newt’s story, we are also finding out the story of Grindlewald and, later, the tale of the great wizarding war.
RELATED: Harry Potter: 10 Things That Need To Happen Before The Fantastic Beasts Series Ends
Fantastic Beasts allows us to really explore in-depth the reasons for the war and the rise of Voldemort. It’s through this understanding that we are also better able to understand the effects of this history on the characters we know from Harry Potter. It adds a new depth to the canon, one which we are unlikely to see replicated in these new books.
A History Of Magic
The new ebooks appear to be focusing on less specific aspects of wizarding history and more on general areas of magical studies. They will hopefully give us more insight into the Hogwarts lessons and into some of the aspects taught to students. However, they are very unlikely to affect anything in the cinematic universe.
Fans can expect these books to simply flesh out some information that we already know. The notes, drawings, and manuscript pages will no doubt be fascinating to see but won’t affect the overall canon of either the Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts series.
The Cursed Child
If the Harry Potter cinematic universe is to expand beyond Fantastic Beasts , then these new books won’t be paving the way for it. A much more likely scenario is that The Cursed Child stage show is adapted for the big screen. This would bring to life the tale of Hogwarts years later when Harry’s son and his cohorts are attending. The story of Albus and his friends is a much more likely target for adaptation.
Nonetheless, the new ebooks will no doubt be enjoyed by Harry Potter fans young and old. Anyone with an interest in finding out more about the wizarding world and the inspiration behind the magic should look them up.
The new ebooks are set to launch on Amazon UK, Amazon US, Apple, and Kobo stores and pre-orders are priced at £1.99/$2.58.

JK Rowling's Pottermore to publish four short books on the history of magic
Pottermore Publishing due to release non-fiction ebooks, modelled on the curriculum followed by Harry Potter
Harry Potter fans are due to be given new insight into the “rich history” of JK Rowling’s wizarding world in a new series of four short books exploring the origins of magic.
Rowling’s Pottermore Publishing will release four ebooks next month, “bitesize” non-fiction that the publisher said will explore “the traditional folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter stories”. Each is themed on a subject on the Hogwarts curriculum, with A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts, A Journey Through Potions and Herbology, A Journey Through Divination and Astronomy, and A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures all on the way.
According to Pottermore, the books are inspired by the audiobook of Harry Potter – A History of Magic, the companion book to the British Library exhibition on the same subject .
“It seems part of human nature to want to believe in the unbelievable: from the bestiaries and cabinets of curiosities of the medieval period onwards,” said Pottermore. “We think that truth and myth are easily distinguished today, but magical creatures and the stories around them continue to fascinate us – and they are as central to the Harry Potter stories as Harry, Hermione and Ron.”
Describing its Potions and Herbology ebook, it said that “potions have been made for thousands of years”, with plants “important components of medicines as much as myth-making and magic”. The publisher added: “A source of danger as well as a means of overcoming obstacles, herbology was a subject which had a major bearing on Harry’s key decisions and mistakes in the wizarding world.”
The four ebook shorts will also include notes, manuscript pages and sketches, Pottermore promised, and are “a chance to absorb the colourful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic in a more compact form.”
