VIEW OYSTERBAND & JUNE TABOR DATES

View oysterband uk tour dates, view denmark & germany dates, after 45 years on the road, oysterband have decided to take the tour bus out for its last ride.

“We’re hanging up our travelling shoes, but we’re taking a year or so to say goodbye to our lovely live audience. And we mean to enjoy every minute!”

Emerging in the early 80s from their folk club and ceilidh band days, Oysterband infused both the tradition and their own songs with a passion and energy that was electrifying for the time. Polkas, politics and a heaving dance floor seemed just right for Thatcher’s Britain. Signing to new roots label Cooking Vinyl , headlining English Roots Against Apartheid , playing Glastonbury and the Fleadh several times each, touring with The Pogues in Europe and Billy Bragg in North America, hosting the Big Session Festival ….. all gained them a large and loyal international following.

Their collaboration with June Tabor in 1990 produced the cult-classic album Freedom & Rain , and it was renewed 21 years later for Ragged Kingdom , one of the best-selling folk-rock albums of the new millennium.

Winners of several BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards , including Best Band twice, Oysterband’s song-writing has never stood still, and classics such as The Oxford Girl , When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down) , Everywhere I Go and Put Out The Lights have entered the folk canon.

“It’s been a long, tough, joyful journey, but the time has come.

In the words of our own song Granite Years, we’re waving you a long, long goodbye…..come help us celebrate!”

After 45 years on the road, Oysterband have decided to take the tour bus out for its last ride!

After 45 years on the road, the legendary Canterbury-formed collective will be hanging up their touring boots and bringing their unique partnership with the English folk songstress to a worthy conclusion.

But it’s not over yet… With a tour aptly named “ A Long Long Goodbye ”, Oysterband will be bowing-out in style with a year of unmissable shows planned at some of their favourite haunts, where they will be performing a career-spanning set, including highlights of their collaborations with June Tabor.

In a statement about the upcoming tour, Oysterband said:

“We’re hanging up our travelling shoes, but we’re taking a year or so to say goodbye to our lovely live audience.  And we mean to enjoy every minute! It’s been a long, tough, joyful journey, but the time has come. In the words of our own song “Granite Years” , we’re waving you a long, long goodbye… Come help us celebrate!”

7.30pm Show Start

Emerging in the early 80s from their folk club and ceilidh band days, Oysterband infused both the traditional and their own songs with a passion and energy that was electrifying. Polkas, politics and a heaving dance floor seemed just right for Thatcher’s Britain. Signing to new roots label Cooking Vinyl, headlining English Roots Against Apartheid, playing Glastonbury and the Fleadh several times each, touring with The Pogues in Europe and Billy Bragg in North America, hosting their Big Session Festival in The Midlands. All gained them a large and loyal following both at home and internationally.

Endlessly touring and writing over the course of their 45 year career, the band have played all over the world and released dozens of studio releases throughout their career, including seminal albums like ‘Holy Bandits’ (1993), ‘The Shouting End of Life’ (1995) and ‘Diamonds On The Water’ (2014), not to mention timeless compilations, and unbeatable live albums.

Initially collaborating with June Tabor in 1990, the meeting of minds produced the cult favourite ‘Freedom & Rain’. Reconnecting some 21 years later, the resultant album ‘Ragged Kingdom’ would become one of the best-selling folk-rock albums of the new millennium.

And Oysterband’s efforts have not gone unnoticed either. Awarded winners of several BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including Best Band twice, Oysterband’s song-writing has never stood still, and hits such as “The Oxford Girl”, “When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down)”, “Everywhere I Go” and “Put Out The Lights” are now staples of the folk canon.

Most recently, Oysterband released their final studio album ‘Read The Sky’ to much acclaim in 2021 and recently undertook an extensive tour of Europe, plus a special “Decades” tour across the UK where they explore their back catalogue. Embarking on a new tour later on in 2024, Oysterband will be going out on a high as they bid “ A Long Long Goodbye ” to fans and friends with a series of unforgettable live shows.

From their earliest days as a noisy, politicised ceilidh band in the late Seventies, Oysterband have never stopped evolving or providing soundtrack to the changing times.

Initially meeting at Canterbury in Kent, at a time when pubs were alive with folk clubs and music sessions, the Oyster Ceilidh Band (as they were known then), were a band on a simple mission to get dancefloors bouncing. But with a chemistry between its members and music that made a profound connection with its audiences, greater things soon beckoned as the times became more complicated.

Releasing music with relative prolificacy, from their debut as Oyster Ceilidh Band ‘Jack’s Alive’ in 1980; through classics like ‘Step Outside’ (1986), ‘Wide Blue Yonder’ (1987), ‘Ride’ (1989) (as Oyster Band); to mid-period Oysterband wonders like ‘Deserters’ (1992), ‘Holy Bandits’ (1993), ‘Trawler’ (1994), and latter period gems like ‘Rise Above’ (2002) or ‘Diamonds On The Water’ (2014)’; Oysterband have been a constant and uplifting presence in music throughout the decades and have ratcheted-up dozens of studio releases throughout their career.

The band released what stands as their final album in 2022, the acclaimed ‘Read The Sky’, which found the band taking a political stand for their environmental beliefs. As true to their political roots as they ever were, the album was released to chime with the COP26 summit in Glasgow of that year. The album hit the Official Folk Album Chart No.1, a testament to their enduring popularity across the ages.

The creative heart of Oysterband is still here after 45 years: John Jones (vocals, melodeon), Alan Prosser (guitars) and Ian Telfer (violin), with Al Scott, their longtime producer, on bass, Adrian Oxaal (cello and guitar) and newest member Sean Randle on drums.

Most recently, Oysterband undertook an extensive tour of Europe, plus a special “Decades” tour across the UK where they explored their back catalogue in greater depth. Announcing a series of shows with June Tabor in 2024, Oysterband will be going out on a high as they bid “A Long Long Goodbye” to fans and friends with a series of unmissable shows.

They’ve travelled the world but they still play with the fire of that dance band back in Kent.

Featuring  John Jones (vox, melodeon), Ian Telfer (violin, keyboard), Alan Prosser (guitars), Sean Randle (drums, percussion), Al Scott (bass, mandolin) and Adrian Oxaal (cello, guitars), with June Tabor .

oyster band tour 2023

Oysterband are back on stage where they belong, with a brand new album and classic live tracks. Uplifting songs for uncertain times.

“We’ve never been more pleased to say…..Meet You There!”

The 5-times BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winning outfit that brought passion, power and not a little poetry to folk and roots music, enter their fifth decade as vital and creative as ever, with some of the finest songs in the modern folk canon to their name: Put Out The Lights; When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down); Blood Wedding; Everywhere I Go; The Oxford Girl; Granite Years; Native Son; A River Runs…..these and many others from their vast back catalogue will feature as they embark on another year of international touring and festivals.

Theirs has been a unique and fiercely independent career. Oysterband still play with that spirit of the punk ceilidh band that roared through people’s lives all those years ago. But the growing depth and sensitivity of their songwriting, coupled with the strength of John Jones’ voice and their remarkable musicianship, have lifted their music into a richer, more acoustic era.

Their occasional collaboration with folk diva June Tabor has produced two cult-classic award-winning albums,  Freedom & Rain  and  Ragged Kingdom . The latter and their hugely influential album  Holy Bandits were voted among the Ten Best Albums of the last 30 years by the public in a poll by fRoots Magazine in 2016.

Support by Nunnery Norheim

Lizzie Nunnery and Vidar Norheim are an alternative folk duo from Liverpool and Norway. Their debut  album  Company of Ghosts  was one of BBC Radio 2′s top 10 folk albums of the year, and launched a creative collaboration that is ever surprising and innovative. Following Norwegian and UK tours of their play with songs  Narvik ( Best New Play, UK theatre awards 2017), they return with  I Saw the City : an aching, soaring album, conjuring love for the city and dreams of escape.

Blue Öyster Cult - or BOC- are an American rock band from Long Island, New York in America who formed in 1967.

Blue Öyster Cult's current members are vocalists Donald Roeser, Eric Bloom, Jules Radino on drums, Richie Castellano on the keyboards and rhythm guitar and Kasim Sulton on the bass guitar.

The band started out in 1967 with various different members, they named themselves "Soft White Underbelly". However this was eventually changed to Blue Oyster Cult in 1971.

Their self titled debut album was released in 1972 and included songs "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll", "Stairway to the Stars", and "Then Came the Last Days of May". Their debut album was highly successful and subsequently led them to tour with The Byrds, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Alice Cooper.

Blue Öyster Cult went on to release their first live album, named, "On Your Feet or on Your Knees" in 1975, which impressively went gold.

After a string of success the band hit a brick wall when members started to leave and go solo, their album reached just 83 in the charts. They picked up after finding new members and enjoyed more success.

Since the release of their memorable debut album in 1972, the band has sold over 24 million albums around the world, with 7 million being sold in America alone. As well as this Blue Öyster Cult's music videos are highly regarded, achieving heavy rotation on MTV when the station first came about.

Live reviews

Blue Öyster Cult – 22/2/2019 – Hammersmith Odeon

I got to the Odeon (Apollo) as The Temperence Movement were starting up. They’re a Black Crowes style band with a singer who reminded me of a young Rod Stewart. They should have been my thing – they certainly had a lot of support in the crowd – but they weren’t. The drummer was pedestrian and the sound was muddy. They weren’t bad; they just didn’t rock my boat.

Arriving on stage to the theme from ‘Game of Thrones’, Blue Öyster Cult continue to rock my boat to the point of capsizing. The best news of the day is that Danny Miranda is now full-time on bass. Kasim Sultan was the last bass player and while a fine jazz-rock player was totally wrong for BÖC. That said, he’d previously annoyed me as bass player for Meat Loaf, so maybe I annoyed him too. Miranda was the bassist on the last two BÖC albums (20 years ago!), and has the right level of attack and bounce in his playing to propel the groove along.

Basically, this is Buck Dharma’s band – he was a founder member, writer of the three big hits and still plays incredible guitar parts. The other almost original member is Eric Bloom on guitars and keyboards, who was the happiest I think I’ve seen him.

We only got two songs from ‘Secret Treaties’ but otherwise a good mix of the hits and a couple of lesser known numbers – the best of which was a beautiful rendition of ‘The Vigil’ which sent Miranda spinning gently around the stage. The crowd did a lovely job of singing ‘Burning for You’, but throats were a bit raw for ‘(Don’t Fear) The Reaper’ having just sung ‘Godzilla’ at the tops of our voices.

Unlike their last London gig, no-one broke a guitar string or lost their voice, or got the words wrong or needed bits of the drum-kit replaced. But then they weren’t trying to video this gig, so there’s a lesson in that.

A storming gig from one of my favourite bands.

The power of Blue Oyster Cult still prevails. They are rocking as hard as ever performing their fun, playful heavy rock tunes like “Godzilla” and “Don’t Fear The Reaper”, which are sure to leave a smile on the audience’s face.

They put on highly intense performances with their heavy, distorted guitars blaring through the means of power chords and catchy riffs that are sure to get everyone to rock out to the performance. Blue Oyster Cult is such a likable band to see live because they incorporate the hard rock music that simulates the audience and perform it in such a catchy way that the audience is always begging for more. The lead guitarists and vocalists, Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom, perfectly perform intricate harmonies and guitar melodies while playing live that adds a strong depth to the performance. Blue Oyster Cult also performs with a third guitarist that adds a great dynamic quality to the performance. Songs such as “Burinin’ For You” can clearly convey the intricate polyphonic arrangements that Blue Oyster Cult is so great at performing. All the members of Blues Oyster Cult have a tough look with all of them wearing black attire and sporting sunglasses. Although most of their songs are presented in a fun way, they want to still maintain a dark quality to their songs with several of their songs focusing on such topics as death and suicide. Blue Oyster Cult’s setlist covers a vast range of their discography, but mainly sticks to their classic hits that everyone loves.

The loud sound of heavy rock, the bright flares of flashing lights, and the fun vibe that is exhibited by the performance makes Blue Oyster Cult’s show a must see experience. There is a reason why Blue Oyster Cult has sold over 24 million records and to see them live clearly reinforces why they are such a loved band.

Sometimes, when you’ve got a fever, the only prescription is more cowbell. Back in 2000, Blue Oyster Cult were lent a new lease of life by the now-legendary Saturday Night Live sketch that saw Will Ferrell sending up ‘(Don’t Fear) the Reaper’ with frankly ludicrous amounts of his percussive instrument of choice; it brought the band - who have never officially split since their 1967 formation - back into the public consciousness. It might have been an unwelcome event, though, for the legions of loyal fans who had remained with the Cult over the decades; either way, the band continue to tour, although they haven’t produced a new album since 2001’s Curse of the Hidden Mirror. The list of past members of Blue Oyster Cult is extensive, but the current lineup still features two of the classic members; on lead vocals, Eric Bloom, with Donald Roeser on lead guitar. They still frequently play across North America, but haven’t played in the UK since 2008. That last set of dates saw them play career-spanning sets that were heavy on soloing and reinterpretation of the classics; what they lack in energy, as they get older, they make up for with the sheer flexibility of their musicianship. Having released an extensive, seventeen-disc remastered boxset in 2012 that chronicled their career, they’ve yet to properly promote it; don’t rule out the possibility of further UK shows just yet.

These guys are fun to rock with. I saw them my first time in 1975 in Salt Lake City at the Terrace Ball Room. Anyone who remembers the Terrace knows how awesome to rock the roof off that place. BOC did that night. Eric Bloom kicked it hard on vocals. This was the band that recorded their best albums. They had bombs, and fog machines and a light show to knock your socks off. What a show. I've seen almost all rock bands worth seeing. BOC s still one of my favorite concerts. I then saw them a few years later at the Salt Palace. Again, they killed it. Buck Darma was fun to watch. Eric was impressive in every way. I slept over that night in the line to get Aerosmith tickets going on sale at 9:00 am the next morning. At 7 am I went across the street to eat and wash up. In the lobby was the BOC checking out of the Motel. I got to talk with the brothers, Buck and Eric. I still have their autographs from Agents of Fortune Tour. They were very kind and jovial. We had a 15-minute goof around lil party. Then they were off to the airport in another city. I'm so glad to see Eric is still showing his vocal talents today. What a true musician and a great Rocker. To the BOC* Dean

Firstly, the place was packed. I don't know if it was a fortuitous alignment of the stars, or what, but there was literally no space inside.

Parhaps powered by the audience's energy, BÖC hammered out a storming set, throwing everything into it. The playing was fast and furious, especially Richie Castellano on guitar, but the 'old timers' Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma gave as good as they got!

Quite a bit of chat between songs and even a 'peoples vote' between Harvest Moon & Shooting Shark. The rest of the set, an almost two hour show, was full of classic BÕC songs, with a few 'deep cuts' thrown in, had the audience rocking throughout.

The set list:

01 Tattoo Vampire

02 Before the Kiss, a Redcap

03 Career of Evil

04 Burning for You

05 Harvester of Eyes

06 People's vote

Harvest Moon

07 The Vigil

10 Then Came The Last Days of May

12 Godzilla

The Blue Öyster Cult or BÖC for short have reached somewhat iconic status over their vast career for their musical capabilities and innovative approach to the genre of hard rock. Fast approaching their 40th anniversary, they play with the same level of sincerity and modesty of a band on their very first tour, clearly moved by the huge reaction from the crowds.

Their music has soundtracked a number of generations and the age range present tonight is evidence of the band's wide appeal. They all sing in unison to favourites including 'Burnin' For You' and 'Golden Age of Leather' much to the delight of the performers onstage. They give their all throughout the show and have some real skill with the instruments, the guitar riffs sound on point and they do not miss a single note no matter how fragmented some of the instrumentals become. The clear highlight is the modern cult classic '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' which very much cements the band's reputation on the circuit.

Being a massive fan and with a birthday the previous day it was the perfect gift for me after a series of wrong turns to find venue we eventually stumbled upon it the venue was a student's nightclub but it had respectable views and it was a packed and excited crowd after a short but rocking set by the support act the cult hit the stage at 9pm starting with stairway to the stars the band took the crowd through a setlist covering their recording history Eric said it was a sold out show and there was certainly no room to move the band were clearly enjoying themselves and did a number of songs rarely featured in recent years by the time cities of flame finished the gig the crowd were more than happy it was back to metro and hotel for me happy having seen a A1 gig a long but content drive home to Wales the next day was worth the long drive to see best band on planet

A truly amazing show. I had been looking forward to this concert for six months, and it was even better than I had imagined. I will definitely see them again if they ever come back to my area, and I encourage anyone on the fence about seeing them live to do the same. All of the band members are very talented musicians who obviously enjoy what they do. The fans were respectful, yet got very "into" the show. Blue Öyster Cult definitely set our city on flame with rock and roll.

Despite the original band members being in their seventies, they rocked the house down!!! I saw BOC in 1979, and this show I enjoyed even more. Wonderful venue, and this was the best show I have seen there! I have always been a Blue Oyster Cult fan, and they are still every bit as awesome as when I first heard them. THEY ROCK and Dharma still shreds w his soul!!!!

2nd mobile mammogram hits road.

Bon Secours St. Francis has added its second mobile mammography coach in the Upstate.

Like the health system’s original mammography coach, launched in 2012, the unit will be on the road five to six days a week, offering the latest 3D technology for patients in Greenville, Anderson, Pickens and Oconee counties.

“This will allow us to travel further to more destinations to spread awareness that early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer – a fight that one in eight women will face in their lifetime,” said Amanda Yanchus, lead mammography technologist at the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health.

Making screenings more accessible has prompted more women to have mammograms, she said.

The Bon Secours mobile mammography coaches provide the same technology as the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health, but it’s delivered straight to the communities.

“Bringing the mobile coach to places outside Greenville makes such a difference for the ladies living and working in these communities. Many work long days and would not take the time off for their screening if we did not bring these services,” said Alicia Landreth, mammography technologist and mobile mammography coordinator at Bon Secours.

Screenings on the mobile mammography coach take about 15 minutes and are covered by most insurance carriers. Women do not need a doctor’s order.

A mobile mammography schedule is available online at  bonsecours.com .

ReWa Helps Environment By Restoring Oyster Reef

ReWa (Renewable Water Resources) of Greenville is making its second trip to South Carolina’s coast to help rebuild oyster reefs. The initiative is part of ReWa’s ongoing commitment to preserving the ecosystem.

ReWa has participated in the South Carolina Oyster Restoration and Enhancement program since 2017.

“Every day, we are committed to treating and reintroducing clean water into the environment," said Angie Price, Operations Services Officer at ReWa. "We take our responsibility to our downstream neighbors seriously, and recycling oyster shells is an extension of our efforts to preserve and protect water quality.”

ReWa bagged oyster shells this spring with staff from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and The Jones Oyster Co., part of the Table 301 Restaurant Group. The Jones Oyster Co. recycles oyster shells from its restaurant.

The shells are stored by ReWa and returned to the ocean to create reefs. This year, ReWa will return to the reef that it rebuilt last year and install signage to make it a dedicated ReWa reef.

“By recycling oyster shells and returning the shells to the coastal estuaries, future generations of oysters, crabs and fish have an opportunity to grow and flourish in a clean water environment,” said Steve Seitz, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Table 301.

“The Jones Oyster Co. opened its doors with a passion for the freshest oysters possible, and also with a firm commitment to doing its part to protect the environment,” he said.

A living adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water each day.

“ReWa’s oyster recycling efforts are doing an amazing job at bridging the gap between the Upstate and the Low Country to demonstrate how we’re all involved in protecting our natural resources,” said Holly Sommers, Oyster Recycling and Planting Coordinator for SCDNR.

Since 1925, ReWa has provided wastewater treatment services to the Upstate while promoting a cleaner environment and protecting public health and water quality of Upstate waterways. It also has developed sewer infrastructure to sustain the growing economy. ReWa serves Greenville County and portions of Anderson, Laurens, Pickens and Spartanburg counties.

The Jones Oyster Co.’s name is a nod to the building’s previous tenant, The Jones Furniture Company. Diners at the restaurant are invited to gather around trays of raw or grilled oysters and other seafood entrees.

Carolina Handling Celebrates 58 Years By Aiding Food Banks

Carolina Handling is celebrating its 58th anniversary in 2024 with a yearlong campaign titled “Handling Hunger Together” that will help hunger relief organizations in the company’s five-state footprint.

According to Feeding America, more than 44 million people in the United States face hunger each year, including one in five children. In 2022, 49 million people turned to food banks and other organizations to help feed their families.

Those food banks also need pallet jacks, lift trucks, and other equipment to move non-perishables and fresh produce.

“Numerous organizations throughout the Southeast receive, store and distribute thousands of pounds of food each year to feed the hungry in their communities,” said Carolina Handling President and CEO Brent Hillabrand. “The logistics of that can be overwhelming to organizations that don’t have applicable, reliable equipment.”

So, in celebration of its 58 years in business, the Charlotte-based intralogistics company is giving away 58 motorized pallet jacks to hunger relief organizations throughout its territory, which includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and part of Florida.

The Raymond electric pallet jacks are used, 2016 and newer, with battery packs. They will be awarded on a first-requested basis to qualifying organizations that complete a form on the Carolina Handling website. Equipment will be delivered at no charge.

For information, go to  carolinahandling.com/community/58-for-58 .

Carolina Handling is an integrated material handling solutions provider and the exclusive Raymond Solutions and Support Center in the Southeast.

In addition to Charlotte, the company has offices in Atlanta, Birmingham, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Greenville, and an Equipment Distribution Center in Piedmont.

TreesUpstate Honors Volunteers In Ex-Director’s Name

TreesUpstate, a nonprofit organization that plants, promotes and protects trees, has created The Joelle Teachey Society in honor of its former Executive Director, who served from 2007 to 2023.

Teachey mobilized over 10,000 local citizens to volunteer alongside her and her staff, spearheading initiatives to plant 189 species and cultivars of trees across the Upstate.

Through her guidance and expertise, Teachey transformed TreesUpstate into an organization with a legacy of environmental stewardship.

During her tenure, the organization gave away over 37,000 trees and launched the TreesUpstate Legacy Tree Project, NeighborWoods, Energy Saving Trees presented by Duke Energy, Tree Keepers, Tree Care Crews, and the new workforce development apprenticeship program.

Teachey continues to serve as Executive Counsel, provides support to municipalities about tree ordinances, and will be director of the annual Turkey Day Run.

The Joelle Teachey Society will honor the most committed TreesUpstate volunteers.

The founder of the organization, Katie Jones, spoke at the recent TreesUpstate annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic. Volunteers were honored with lapel pins for their years of service, including two volunteers – Karen Traxler and Jim Ciallella – who have volunteered for 15 years.

For information about volunteer opportunities and The Joelle Teachey Society, go to  treesupstate.org .

TreesUpstate is a nonprofit organization founded in 2005 to plant, promote, and protect trees in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties.
