This brief guide to Pampanga will help you plan your trip. It contains information on what to do, eat, and drink as well as the must-see spots and the best hotels.

Pampanga , the province known for its culinary works, lies on the northern shore of Manila Bay.  Its location, which is less than two kilometers away from Metro Manila , makes the province a great destination for quick trips to get away from the very busy life in the metropolis.

It is nicknamed as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines but there is more to Pampanga than just the popular foods originated in the province.  It has natural and manmade attractions therefore providing fun activities for locals and tourists alike.  It got another nickname as Christmas Capital of the Philippines due to the Giant Lantern Festival which celebrates the start of the Christmas season in the country.

Best Time to Visit

It’s best to visit the Philippines during the dry season .  Dry season in the Philippines spans from November through April .  These are the summer months in this country.

Be aware that temperatures and humidity levels are particularly high in April and May .

The best time to be a beach bum and explore the islands is from March to May.

TIP:  This guide recommends that booking for Pampanga summer trips should be done as early as possible, at least a month before your travel dates, since resorts get fully booked early.

The period from June to October is the rainy (wet) season and is best avoided due to the high possibility of typhoons. The typhoons can not only be destructive, but most tours and activities are cancelled under such circumstances.  Transportation via plane and boat is also seriously impacted as well.  This happens frequently so beware!

This guide recommends traveling to Pampanga in April-May or in November-December , just before and just after the rainy season. This will likely bring fewer crowds, yet pleasant weather, and is also a great time to score a travel deal.

The following is your guide to places to see and activities to enjoy while in Pampanga.

1 | Explore Mount Arayat National Park

One of the oldest national parks in the country, Mount Arayat National Park is more developed than others with its concrete trails, pools, and huts.  It has a trail leading to the peak of Mount Arayat which offers the view of Pampanga River, the caldera-like crater, and the mountains of Zambales , Bataan , and Sierra Madre.

2 | Visit Candaba Bird Sanctuary

A great place to see migratory birds, Candaba Bird Sanctuary is a large piece of land that hosts different species of migratory birds such as Philippine mallard which is endemic to the Philippines.  Most birds, however, have migrated from Russia and the northern parts of Asia.  This haven in the town of Candaba is definitely a perfect destination for bird watching and wildlife photography.

3 | See the waterfalls in Porac

Apart from mountains, Pampanga is blessed with several waterfalls, too.  The town of Porac alone has three – Miyamit Falls which boasts of its clean and potable water, Darabulbul Falls (also called Dara Falls), and Sapang Anka Falls which can be a challenge to reach.  The jump-off point to Mt. Pinatubo Twin Falls is also in Porac.

4 | Spend a day of adventures at Sandbox and Sky Ranch

Sandbox is another destination in Porac which adventure junkies would love.  Its roller coaster zipline is the first in Asia and its giant swing is the tallest in the Philippines.  Other attractions to make the day more exciting are aerial walk, ATV/UTV rides, free fall, outdoor archery, and rappelling.

Like Sandbox, Sky Ranch in San Fernando offers a day of adrenaline rush with its wide range of rides and attractions such as Super Viking, Drop Tower, Log Flume Ride, Loop Roller Coaster, Space Shuttle, and the gigantic ferris wheel called Pampanga Eye, the tallest and biggest ferris wheel in the Philippines so far.  There are kid-friendly and family rides as well so there’s surely for everyone to enjoy.

5 | Experience water slides at Aqua Planet

Aqua Planet offers another kind of thrill and adventure for adults and kids alike.  With 38 slides, two wave pools, and other attractions, the theme park surely is an experience one can never forget.

6 | Sightseeing at Nayong Pilipino and Clark Museum and 4D Theater

Nayong Pilipino and Clark Museum and 4D Theater are two places in Pampanga where you can learn more about culture, heritage, and history of the Philippines, particularly the province of Pampanga .

Originally located in Pasay , Nayong Pilipino was moved to Clark Freeport Zone to expand the facilities of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay.  The current theme park in Clark covers an area of 3.5 hectares and features a variety of exhibits showcasing the heritage, culture, and history of the Philippines.  It has a Money Museum which features the past and present Philippine currency and a Textile Museum for local textiles as well as replicas of popular national landmarks and villages of ethnic groups.

Just a few kilometers from Nayong Pilipino is the Clark Museum and 4d Theater.  With its more modern facilities, the museum focuses on the history and culture of Pampanga.  It has different galleries showcasing geophysical artifacts, tools, historical memorabilia, and of course the present-day life of Kapampangans.  The 4D Theater plays a documentary film about the cataclysmic eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991.

7 | Visit Pradera Verde for wakeboarding experience

Pradera Verde is a recreational resort complete with relaxing villas and world-class facilities for wakeboarding and golf.  Whether you are an expert wakeboarder or hoping to learn the extreme sport, there’s always a place for you since the resort has a track for every wakeboarder level.  The resort also has a swimming pool and restaurant to make anyone’s stay more relaxing and fun.

8 | Take the kids to Dinosaurs Island

Add Dinosaurs Island to your itinerary when travelling with kids.  Located in Mabalacat, the theme park features dinosaur animatronics with motion sensors which trigger reaction with movement around them.  The park’s main attraction is the Dinosaur Trail with 26 species of dinosaurs.  The trail has a jungle vibe complete with dinosaur sounds and screams for a more realistic experience.  Other attractions include Dinosaur 7D Experience, Fossil Museum, Jurassic Safari, Wonders of the World Museum, and live dance show.

NOTE: The Giant Lantern Festival occurs annually in San Fernando City every December and Philippine Hot Air Balloon Fiesta between January and February.

EAT & DRINK

The following is your guide to the flavorful food to enjoy and restuarants to try while in Pampanga.

1 | 25 Seeds

Location: Angeles City

Located in the Dycaico Ancestral house, 25 Seeds is a farm-to-table restaurant serving Filipino fusion dishes.  The interior is a perfect mix of the old and new giving the place a homey ambience for everyone to enjoy.  Must-try dishes include Sous Vide Duck with Adobo with Pinakbet Ratatouille, Sisig Paella, Mushroom “Tom Yum” and Fried Vegetable Dumplings, and Crispy Pork Belly with Truffled Macadamia Kare-Kare.

2 | Aling Lucing Sisig

There’s no better place to eat sisig than Pampanga, particularly the restaurant of Aling Lucing, the woman who invented the dish and is now referred to as Sisig Queen.  Made from pig’s face and belly, sisig is a staple Kapampangan cuisine and is now one of the most popular dishes in the country.  Aside from the original Pork Sisig, other varieties to try include Sisig with Lechon Kawali, Bangus Sisig, Sisig with Fried Chicken, Ostrich Sisig, and Crocodile Sisig.

3 | Bale Dutung

Bale Dutung, which means House of Wood in English, is a beautiful wooden structure with a homey ambience and is surrounded by greenery.  The restaurant boasts of having three dining setups – the open kitchen, al fresco, and an air-conditioned private room that doubles as an art gallery.  The restaurant, once visited by American celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, is not open for walk-ins and only opens once reservations are made.  Must-try dishes include Adobong Pugo, Binagoongan Sisig, Hito at Balo-Balo Sushi, Lechon Tortilla, and Tibok Tibok.

4 | Binulo Restaurant

Binulo Restaurant specializes in Kapampangan cuisine and grilled U.S steaks which make it a great dining destination for local and foreign customers alike.  The restaurant is spacious and has a nice and relaxing ambience.  While the price is a bit high for local standards, the servings are generous.  That and the quality of food being served makes the restaurant worth it.  Some of their best dishes include Pangat na Ulang, Pork Bulanglang, Oxtail Kare-Kare, and Crispy Pata.

5 | Cafe Fleur

Like its sister restaurant 25 Seeds, Cafe Fleur is located in an ancestral house with modern touches which appeals to those who prefer a laid back ambience.  The restaurant specializes in Kapampangan cuisine with the goal of preserving the dying recipes for the younger generation.  Their bestsellers are Buro and Hito, Pandan Sansrival, Pinoy Caesar Salad, Salted Egg Bibingka Cheesecake, and Tamales Pampangueña.

6 | Matam-ih Authentic Kapampangan Cuisine

Matam-Ih, Aeta word for delicious, is living up to its name with its authentic Kapampangan dishes.  The restaurant has a combination of traditional Filipino and African art decors.  What makes this restaurant unique from the others is the cooperation of Aeta and Abelling tribe members employed as staff and servers.  Their best sellers are Adobong Pusit, Begukan Babi (pork sauteed in shrimp paste), Kare-kareng Iking Baka, and Sisig Babi.

7 | Piccolo Padre

One of the few Italian restaurants in Pampanga, Piccolo Padre is a fine dining restaurant serving not only Italian dishes but Western cuisine as well.  Its Venetian design and interiors make the restaurant a perfect place for romantic and elegant dinners.  Its Italian Chef Dan Giampaolo is the man behind those delectable dishes including Ahi Katsu, Piccolo Padre’s Maine Lobster Tails, and Ossobuco Alla Milanese.

8 | Susie’s Cuisine

Location: Angeles City and San Fernando

It doesn’t look much but Susie’s Cuisine is one of the most visited food establishments in Pampanga as it is also a one-stop pasalubong center where you can find a variety of Kapampangan delicacies.  What started out as a small carinderia is now a favorite gastronomic destination for its pancit luglug (a noodle dish), tibok-tibok (dessert made of carabao milk), and other Filipino dishes.

9 | The Souq

Location: San Fernando

Inspired by Souk Madinat in Dubai, The Souq has a variety of dining settings.  One area is glamorous, another is more casual and rustic, and the small garden has a cozy setup perfect for intimate events.  The restaurant initially served Arabic and international dishes and later on included Filipino dishes with a twist to cater to customers craving for Filipino flavors. 

KNOWN FOR: Sisig , a Kapampangan dish made from parts of pork and usually seasoned with pepper, onions and calamansi.

Use the chart below to get an idea of how much to budget daily.  Actual amounts will depend on YOUR travel style. Keep in mind these are daily averages … some days you’ll spend more, some days you’ll spend less. Prices are in USD.

Travel Costs

Accommodation.

A bed in a  hostel  dorm costs from 350 PHP ($7 USD), but smaller dorms can cost from 500 PHP ($10 USD).  For a private double, prices start around 700 PHP ($14 USD).

Most  budget hotels  begin at 700 PHP ($14 USD) per night for a double room and usually include free wifi and breakfast.  For  a three-star hotel , prices begin around 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.    AirBnB  is also widespread throughout the country, with private rooms starting from as little as 500 PHP ($10 USD) per night.  For entire apartments, expect to pay at least 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.

Resorts and luxury accommodations  vary greatly from 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) to 5,000+ PHP ($100+ USD).  However, there are some really nice resorts and luxury accommodations which are surprisingly affordable.

We use and recommend booking online to save money using  HostelWorld ,  Agoda ,  Booking.com , and  AirBnB . 

Local food is extremely cheap, with street food costing under 50 PHP ($1USD).  For an inexpensive meal at a local restaurant, prices start around 100 PHP ($2 USD).  For a meal at a mid-range restaurant with drinks and table service, expect to pay from 200 PHP ($4 USD).  Knowing that their target customers are primarily tourists, Western food venues can be pricey compared to Filipino food.  Also, some of the ingredients need to be imported, which contributes to the higher cost. Western food (burgers, pizza, pasta, etc.) is much more expensive but is still relatively affordable at around 200 PHP ($4 USD) for a meal and drink.

Fast food like McDonalds will cost around 200 PHP ($4 USD).  A beer at the bar will cost around 50-100 PHP ($1–2 USD).

A week’s worth of groceries will cost between 300-600 PHP ($6-12 USD) per person.  However, food in this country is so inexpensive, and kitchens & refrigerators are hard to come by, I don’t recommend cooking your meals here since there is plenty of delicious street food to eat at very cheap prices. You won’t make it as good as they do and the food is too delicious to miss!

Transportation

There are many modes of transportation available in the Philippines and each varies greatly. 

Public Transportation is cheap.  Bus services on the islands are inexpensive.  Local buses (called jeepneys) are the most common type of transportation in towns and cities. The fare is usually between 7-25 PHP ($.20–.50 USD).

On islands without a bus system, a taxi or tricycle is the only form of transport with fares starting at 50-500 PHP ($1-$10) USD for short trips. 

Taxis are everywhere, and they’re very cheap.  Most fares shouldn’t cost you more than 500 PHP ($10 USD) around town.  

To get between islands, you’ll need to take a boat or to fly.  There are ferries that connect the island together since they aren’t too far apart but, generally speaking, flights are the most realistic option. 

Flights between islands usually cost about 2,000-3500 PHP ($40-70 USD).  However, this isn’t the cheapest way to travel.  It’s only recommended if you have limited time.

Attractions & Activities

Most attractions and activities in the Philippines are pretty cheap. Most attractions throughout the area are FREE to enter, though some of the more well known and popular ones cost 5-100 PHP ($.10-$2 USD) to enter. 

Depending on the activity, most day tours only cost around 1,000-1,500 PHP ($20-30 USD), oftentimes less.  You have more bargaining power if you go with a group. If you are expecting to do some climbing, remember to pack some warm layers. It gets cold at the top!  

Other activities such as Island Hopping, scuba diving, helmet diving, swimming with whale sharks, jungle trekking, canyoning, ATVs, jet skis, wakeboarding, cruises, parasailing, horseback riding, cultural experiences, and tours can cost as much as 1,250-5,000+ PHP ($25-100+ USD).

The Philippines is one of the least expensive places to learn how to scuba dive. Learning to scuba dive usually costs about 15,000-20,000 PHP ($300-400 USD), but often includes FREE accommodation for the duration of the course, which lasts three or four days.

Always book your tours and activities when you arrive.  Stick to travel agents who are selling on the ground. If a travel agent won’t negotiate with you, move on to the next until you find one that will.  Booking tours online is almost always more expensive.

Tips & Hacks

he following are our Top 10 Tips when visiting this destination in the Philippines:

• Be aware that a tourist VISA is only 30 days. You can extend it upon arrival, or within the first 30 days, for an additional 30 days for a fee of approximately 3,000 pesos.
• Don’t buy into the fear factor. The Philippines has an unjustified reputation of being a dangerous place. It’s true there are security guards everywhere, but that is to deter theft.
• Manila is NOT the Philippines. Get outside of the cities to see the real Philippines.
• Don’t over plan. Boats, buses, and even airplane schedules are notoriously unreliable. Be flexible.
• Check the weather. The weather varies greatly throughout the Philippines daily.
• Typhoons can have a huge impact on your plans. Account for this when planning your trip.
• It’s not cool to raise your voice or show outward frustration in public.
• Be polite at all times. Realize that your country’s sense of humor may be different from Filipino humor and take this into account when interacting with Filipinos and while in public places.
• Things move at a slower pace. Accept it … don’t get frustrated … but do account for it.
• Don’t drink the tap water… but stay hydrated! Save money by buying large bottles (6-10 liters) of water and using it to fill your water bottle or hydration bladder in your backpack.

Money Matters

The Philippines has its own currency called the Philippine Peso. Banks, ATMs, and money-changers can be found on the island. If you are exploring the neighboring islands or provinces, make sure to bring enough cash that will last until the next time you get to an ATM or bank since most tours, transportation, and budget accommodations only accept cash.

Health & Safety

While overall the Philippines is a safe country to visit, as is Pampanga, you need to use common sense just as you would in any country, especially when traveling, and in a city, town, or area you are unfamiliar with.

Staying Connected

You need to have a local-based SIM card in order to stay connected when in the Philippines. Network giants such as Globe and Smart have SIM cards you can use to make calls, send text messages, and also to connect to the Internet. A SIM card costs around 50 PHP ($1 USD) and usually comes with a FREE load worth 50 PHP ($1 USD). You can buy a card containing a code you can enter on your phone to replenish your load or buy an electronic load that is available almost anywhere in the city.

While you may not have problems with signal strength when in the city, it is not always the case when on islands or in remote areas of a province.  So when arranging for transportation pick up, say when renting a boat to take you to and pick you up from the island, it would be best that you make it clear what time you need to be picked up before the boatman leaves.

Things to Remember

This guide recommends to take note of the following while traveling in Pampanga or in the Philippines in general.

There is a nationwide ban which prohibits smoking in public places including indoors, the streets, on sidewalks, in restaurants , and on public transportation, requiring smokers to use designated smoking areas.  Selling tobacco to and purchasing from or for minors is also prohibited. Violators are subject to fines (up to 5,000 PHP | $100 USD) and even 4 months in prison.

The minimum legal drinking age is 18.  Alcohol such as beer and hard drinks can easily be bought in grocery and convenience stores.  The most common alcoholic beverage is beer, generally served cold.  Local alcoholic drinks include tuba (coconut wine which is usually very strong) and potent moonshine-like clear liquors made from sugar or fruit.  Imported beer, wine, and name brand hard alcohol are available but expensive.

Drugs are illegal in the Philippines.  Don’t use, buy, or sell any non-prescription drugs while in the Philippines … not even marijuana.  It is considered an especially heinous crime to buy from, for, or sell drugs to children.  The penalties are severe … up to and including death.

Public nudity is illegal in the Philippines and is not tolerated.  Most locals consider it offensive.  There are laws which prohibit provocative and erotic clothing and swimwear, therefore carefully consider your clothings and swimwear choices to make certain they are not too revealing.

Foreigners & Expats

If you are not a Filipino citizen, remember that you are a guest when visiting this country … be certain to act accordingly.  Respect the people, their customs, and the environment and wlidlife. You can be deported and banned … so behave … but have fun and enjoy all that this wonderful destination has to offer.

I was born and raised here in Pampanga and I’ve now spent almost 23 years in the province. Still, there’s still so much for me to see. As it’s constantly improving, growing, and becoming more urbanized and even more beautiful.

Pampanga is the culinary capital of the Philippines. It has 19 towns and 3 cities. It’s amongst the top 10 largest provinces in the country in terms of population. It was once the capital of the country! And, it was also the hometown of two of our former Presidents. The people of Pampanga have their own language and the province celebrates 17 festivals on a yearly basis.

These facts are all amazing. Especially to those who haven’t heard about them before but hear this, Pampanga is more than all these things combined. It’s a beautiful province with lovely people, rich history, numerous scenic sights, and bottomless must-see destinations that can only be appreciated in person, but most importantly, it’s one of the provinces in our country that we can truly be proud of.

Local’s Tips & Tricks When Visiting Pampanga

If you ever decide to visit the province, here’s a guide that can help you make the most out of your vacation.

Cities & Municipalities to Visit

Pampanga is home to many municipalities, each with its own unique attractions. From heritage towns to bustling metropolises, there’s something for everyone in Pampanga. Below, I’ll list some of the most popular municipalities you should visit and their famous tourist spots.

City of San Fernando

If you’re heading to Pampanga, you might as well take a look at its capital city, San Fernando. In the busy capital, you’ll be able to check out major establishments such as the longest SM mall in the Philippines and Robinson Starmills.

But, don’t get fooled by all these modern buildings and businesses. The City is also home to a lot of historic architecture from the Spanish era such as the colonial houses in Consunji St. , most particularly the Lazatin house which was built around the mid-1920s.

Angeles City

Although the highly urbanized city is not a part of Pampanga anymore since it was made into a politically independent component of the province, it still is, in essence, a Kapampangan city. It’s a fairly busy city with lots of businesses, malls, universities, restaurants, churches, and other establishments.

The City is famous for its daring nightlife , especially on its popular Fields Avenue where you’ll find casinos and clubs at every corner.

Clark in Mabalacat Pampanga is a special place with a rich history. Named after Major Harold M. Clark, a pre-World War I pilot, the area was once home to a large US military base. These days, the Clark Freeport Zone has been converted into the Philippines’ very own air base. It is also home to the new Clark Airport, a lot of casinos , and luxury resorts.

But aside from that, Clark is a thriving hub for business and tourism. Are Kapampangans Nice?

What should you expect from Kapampangans? Are they really “mayabang” (boastful)?

It’s our distinct trait to warmly welcome outsiders. We’re known to be mayabang, headstrong and overly frank (which is true) but when it comes to welcoming our neighbors, you can count on our warmth and friendliness.

Here are some things that you should remember:

• Don’t hesitate to ask for directions. If we know where you’re heading, we’ll gladly point you to the right direction.
• Need help with a flat tire? Don’t worry about being snubbed by the side of the road. A Kapampangan will help you out if you ask. We’re pretty handy too.
• We normally talk very loud. To some, it may sound like we’re angry or arguing with someone, but that’s just how we speak.
• There are words in the Kapampangan language that resemble words in Tagalog but mean different things. If you think we said something offensive for no reason, it may just be a Kapampangan word that kind of sounds offensive.

Pampanga is part of the Philippines’ central plain region and is mostly composed of lowlands. It’s 9.9 meters above sea level and experiences both wet and dry seasons. Temperatures can reach up to an average of 28.5°C during its hottest month, April and can dip to an average of 26.5°C in the month of November.

With all these things in mind, there really isn’t much to worry about when visiting the Province, just remember to bring an umbrella because it’s only going to be either hot or rainy.

What to Wear

Now that you know how hot and how cold it can be in the province, you now have an idea of what to wear. Unlike Baguio, it doesn’t really get that cold in the lowlands, so  you’ll be safe wearing just a casual getup. A pair of shorts or a shirt will do. You can also get comfy with slippers especially if you’re heading to the rural parts of the province where it can get muddy and wet.

If you’re visiting Arayat and you’re up to some adventurous outdoor fun, better wear your best hiking attire. Don’t forget your trekking sandals.

Specialties/Pasalubongs

Your trip to Pampanga won’t be complete if you won’t buy any pasalubongs or take-homes for your family and friends back home.

Here are some places/stores where you will be able to find Pampanga’s specialties/delicacies:

Commuting in the Province

When it comes to commuting in Pampanga, you’re presented with numerous choices. You can either catch a jeepney, call a “trike,” ride a kalesa, rent a car or in some places, ride a tri-wheeler.

Here’s a short guide that can help you decide which public transport you can use:

No matter where you’re from in the Philippines, you surely have heard about tricycles, they’re the second most popular way of commuting in the country second to Jeepneys.  In the province, you’ll find them almost at every corner waiting for passengers who couldn’t catch Jeepneys during rush hour or those who prefer to commute in a more private manner away from the crowds. The minimum fare ranges from 25-30 pesos for the first 1 kilometer and an additional 10 pesos for the succeeding kilometers.

Kalesas can also be found in Pampanga, just like the ones in Intramuros. In fact, they were among the first types of public transport introduced by the Spaniards in the 1700s. Until today, there are still some parts of the country that still use horses for public and private transport.

In Pampanga, kalesas are usually found in San Fernando, the capital of the province, particularly in the Downtown area near the Metropolitan Cathedral. You can ask your kutsero to take you for a ride around the heritage district for 100-200 pesos.

Tri-Wheeler

Tri-wheelers or wheelers are a popular way to travel in Pampanga, especially in the City of San Fernando. They are basically the Kapampangan version of pedicabs, but with the sidecar attached not on the side, but at the rear part of the vehicle.

They are a popular way to get around the inner parts of the province, typically in barangays waiting by the street corner for passengers dropped by PUVs, in front of schools, public markets, and malls. There isn’t really a fixed rate when it comes to tri-wheeler commuting, but the accepted minimum fare hovers around 30 pesos and an additional 10 pesos for the succeeding kilometers.

Of course, Jeepneys. Commuting anywhere in the country won’t be complete without Jeepneys. They’re just the most convenient way to travel from point to point without having to break the bank with the minimum being 10 pesos (as of writing).

There are also air-conditioned jeepneys in the Province as part of the PUV modernization caravan which was launched in 2019. The going minimum rate for air-conditioned jeepneys today (as of writing) is 11 pesos.

If you really want to enjoy your visit to the Province and you don’t have a personal vehicle, renting one may be your best bet. Car rentals are really becoming a thing today now that commuting is becoming more and more cumbersome considering the increasing number of cars on the road. For as low as 2000, you can rent a decent sedan for a day in Pampanga.

10. Razon’s Halo-Halo

Pampanga often has a hot climate throughout the year, and one of the best ways to relieve from the extreme heat is a Halo-Halo.

Razon has been synonymous with one of Filipinos favorite desserts and snacks during the summer season. You might already happen to dine at the many branches in Metro Manila and other cities in the Philippines as well.

11. Air Force City Park

Clark Sun Valley Country Club and Resort

The resort is one of the highest points in the  Freeport Zone. Tourists can have fun playing golf or relish in the spectacular view it provides.

Commercio Central

A center of shopping for great deals located in the Parade Grounds of Clark Freeport Zone. There are great food and drinks, and other items that you can buy while mingling with the other locals and foreign tourists.

The Holy Rosary Parish Church (Angeles City)

The Holy Rosary Parish (Santo Rosario Church), also known to the locals as  “Pisambang Maragul” which means the big church is located at the heart of Angeles City. It is recognized as a national historical church by the National Commission for Culture and Arts.

How to get to Clark, Pampanga, Philippines

Clark, Pampanga is roughly around 80 kilometers north of Manila. The place can be reached by land or air.

 By Private Car

It would take 1.5 hours to drive from Manila. It would be helpful of course if you will be using directional apps if you will be driving to Clark for the first time. You can use the North Luzon Expressway then exit at Dau, Mabalacat City, Pampanga.  Take a left turn toward Angeles City and then a right turn toward Clark.

Another route to get there is through the new Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). From the North Luzon Expressway, just continue driving towards the SCTEX exit.  You have the option to take either the Clark South Interchange (near Yokohama and Clark Main Gate) or Clark North Interchange (Panday Pira access road near Nayong Pilipino) to reach Clark.

Daily, public buses are traveling to Clark. Take the Victory Liner bound for Dagupan and get off at Dau common terminal.  Walk for a few minutes towards the highway. Jeepneys or tricycles are available the moment you reach the road which will bring you right up until the Clark gate. Also, the Philippine Rabbit, provides trips to Angeles, Pampanga, via Dau, and other buses going north may also pass by the area.  To be sure, ask the driver or conductor beforehand. Again, mobile applications that provide guides come very handily.

To decongest NAIA, more flights are now being offered at Clark International Airport both domestic and local destinations.

Cebu Pacific Cebu Pacific offers various trips to and from Pampanga both domestic and abroad.

For people in Bacolod, there is a direct flight from the city to Clark.

It’s more fun riding the jeepney and tricycle [ Clark Pampanga Tourist Spots + Hotels ]

Getting around Clark, Pampanga for the Tourist Spots

Grab is available at the place. Very few taxis can be spotted at the place. Public jeepneys which, of course, the cheapest means of transportation available daily to shuttle commuters to the different establishments within the Freeport.

There are two (2) public shuttle terminals found at the Main Gate, for those coming from Angeles City, and Mabalacat Gate, for those from Mabalacat City and northern towns of Tarlac and Zambales.

Anywhere, you can spot tricycles that can bring you to various destinations.

How to get from manila to pampanga by bus.

And if you’re coming from Manila to Pampanga. There are also buses headed for Angeles City. For more information check, how to get to Angeles City from Manila and P2P bus going to Manila International Airport . There is also transportation going to San Fernando City.

Manila to Pampanga travel time can be around 2-4 hours depending on the traffic leaving Manila. Manila to Pampanga bus fare can be around $3-4 USD depending on regular or with air condition.

If you get P2P Manila to Pampanga bus fare can be $8 USD . And the travel time Manila to Pampanga with P2P can be around 2-3 hours from Manila Airport to Clark Airport.

THINGS TO DO IN PAMPANGA AND PAMPANGA TOURIST SPOTS

This is a must try food in Pampanga, and take note Kapampangan’s are known to be good cooks. Sisig is the most popular dish in Pampanga. For starters, Sisig are just pig ears and head mixed with fried onions and chili, served with rice and calamansi.

2. LEARN ABOUT HISTORY ANGELES CITY

Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies serves as a museum, research center, gallery and more. Many changes have occurred to Angeles City from its history that’s why this center had also adopted these changes.

This comprehensive library archives important files that anyone can read to learn about Angeles city’s history and its native Kapampangan people. It is located in the main building of Holy Angel University, Sto. Rosario, Angeles City.

3. HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL

It’s celebrated in February around Clark area in Pampanga. It´s one of the biggest festivals celebrated in Angeles City for over 20 years already.

4. ESCAPE TO THE BEACH

Olongapo, or the beach city , has a narrow entrance guarded by the navy and has a deep sea harbor and a spot very near to Pampanga. It is also a historic place for Philippines that’s why it made it to the top tourist spots in Pampanga.

Other places you can visit in Olongapo City include the the Subic Bay, Inflatable Island, Camayan Beach, and Baloy Beach.

5. HIKE A MOUNTAIN

There are few mountains to hike around Pampanga. The most popular hiking place could be Mt. Pinatubo . Trekking this mountain can be done in a day, which involves, riding a 4×4 on a lahar field, and 3-hour trekking back and forth. Below are some of the price packages if you are coming from Manila:

Miyamit Falls is located in Barangay Sapang Uwak, Porac in Pampanga. The trail for this falls is easy and rewarding plus you’ll love the green sceneries around it.

Tourists and locals love this falls because of its proximity to Manila plus the relaxation it brings. And of course, you could even swim here! One of the best Pampanga destinations.

7. FONTANA WATER PARK

If you’re not the party type and just wanna relax and swim, you can go to places like Fontana Water Park in Clark where you can enjoy the slides and fun water facilities. The best option for Pampanga destinations in the weekend.

14. san guillermo parish church.

San Guillermo Parish Church is located in Bacolor, Pampanga . It was originally constructed by the Augustinian Friars in 1576, making it one of the oldest churches in the province. Inside, there are paintings of the Pinatubo eruption in 1991.

15. HOLY ROSARY PARISH CHURCH

Holy Rosary Parish Church is one of the most iconic places in Angeles City, the locals call it “Pisambang Maragul” . Santo Rosario Church , or now known as the Holy Rosary Parish Church is a beautiful sight to visit having two tall towers and castle-like structures.

But more than its magnificent exterior, this house of worship carries a lot of controversial history that was held during the Spanish era . It’s a must-visit in the list of Pampanga tourist spots!

16. BETIS CHURCH GUAGUA

It’s located in Betis, Guagua . Betis Church is a Baroque style church under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Fernando. The church was dedicated to Saint James, the Apostle and it was established in 1607 .

17. ARZOBISPADO DE PAMPANGA CHURCH

It’s located in San Fernando, Pampanga . It was given a a Canonical Coronation by Pope Pius XII through a Papal Bull dated in 1956.

18. ZOOCOBIA

Zoocobia Fun Zoo can be anyone’s go-to place, whether a family with kids, grown-ups or group or friends, this is one of the places you won’t forget! There are so many thrilling activities for fun-lovers of all ages will surely enjoy.

Besides from the rides, they also serve affordable meals that provides a little bit of everything for you to try. Entrance fee is 300-400 PHP for adults while children under three feet can go inside for free !

19. FLYING AROUND MT PINATUBO FROM CLARK

Clark is a military air base and you can get a flight around Mount Pinatubo and Mount Arayat. Is it true that some places are best enjoyed from up above?

We walk the streets of Angeles City many times a year, but looking down the city and the provincial parts of it (farm lands and non-city/residential ares) was definitely more beautiful.

Riding a small airplane felt very different than your regular helicopter flight . This a very cool thing to do in Angeles City. The flight lasts 45 minutes and it costs $100 each person, perfect for planning a special activity to do with your friends.

20. SKY RANCH SAN FERNANDO PAMPANGA

Missing the rides in the city? Try riding here at Sky Ranch. This place is good for families, friends and just you, it’s fine too. You’ll enjoy the ambiance of this happy place because everybody is just enjoying every ride and attraction they try. You would surely enjoy the experience in Sky Ranch!

21. PUNNING HOT SPRING

Puning Hot Spring in Angeles City is a full-service hot spring that will surely pamper you to the max. It has natural hot springs that purify your skin and detox your system. Besides from its hot spring, they also provide multiple spa services.

Throughout, the view is beautiful and the entire experience is ultra-relaxing, yeah ultra! Prices start from 3500 PHP per person for a minimum of 3 people.

22. MALLS CULTURE IN PAMPANGA

Filipinos love going to the mall in their free time. Full of restaurants, coffee shops, entertainment for kids, SM Mall Clark and SM Pampanga in San Fernando. Marquee Mall is another place with beautiful gardens to hang out in. And if you want to get visa extension in the Philippines you can do the process in Marquee Mall.

FESTIVALS IN PAMPANGA

23. holy week.

It’s a religious and cultural activity most of Catholic Filipinos observe in the Philippines! People are literally imitating what Jesus went through before His death. You can see them in the streets around Angeles City participating in their Filipino traditions and practices from Wednesday to Friday in Holy week.

It’s also a tradition for Filipinos to avoid meat during Holy Week, so fish and vegetable dishes are famous in this period.

24. GIANT LANTERN FESTIVAL IN SAN FERNANDO

The huge and intricately designed lanterns, or parol , are exhibited every December in San Fernando City. The number of lights are limited to 10,000 light bulbs for each Giant Lantern participants during last years. This is a famous event in Pampanga that many locals and tourists join.

25. TIGTIGAN TERAKAN KENG DALAN

If you love going to festivals, you have to experience Angeles City’s Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan Festival , held every October . It’s an annual festival where people have colorful street dancing parades, tons of food and drink stalls and booths, and of course, loud music everywhere.

26. SINUKWAN FESTIVAL

Sinukwan Festival is celebrated in San Fernando City for one whole week. There are spectacular street dances and it’s so colorful. This is celebrated in November or December every year.

Zambales is also the home to the popular town of Subic. This area alone is largely responsible for tourism in the province, as it's home to many Subic beach resorts and promotes ecotourism through guided treks, wreck diving, and jungle tours. It's also common for people to drop by outlet and tax-free stores here for shopping.

As with any location, you'd want to consider the weather and peak conditions before you go. Since the province covers a large area in Central Luzon, the weather in Zambales varies on which town you visit.

Generally, it follows the same seasonal patterns as the rest of the Philippines, with wet months and dry months. Make sure you check weather forecasts to avoid any potential storms or heavy rainfall that could fall on your planned trip dates.

November to May is typically the dry season, where it's enjoyable to go island hopping in the Philippines and do all sorts of water sports and activities. December might be densely crowded due to the holidays. The breeze is a bit cooler around January to February, which also means the sun doesn't feel as harsh during this time.

April and May are peak summer seasons, which also spell out large crowds. If you're not a fan of having a lot of people at the beach on your trip, consider booking an exclusive resort or go on a different month.

May to October is the wet season. Although, it doesn't rain every day, so it's still worth checking out forecasts for a more accurate picture of weather conditions around this time.

If you want to go surfing, however, you should visit during these months. The waves are much better at San Narciso, Zambales, which is good news for beginner to pro level surfers anywhere.

Crowds are thinner too, and hotels sometimes lower their rates during the so-called "off-peak" season.

If you have the flexibility to spare, check the weather a week before your intended stay during off-peak season to score lower fees on hotels.

Zambales is located in Central Luzon, Philippines. Thanks to booming tourism and road developments, commuting has become increasingly accessible now more than ever.

If you're coming from Manila or the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), take the options below:

By Private Car

One of the most convenient ways to reach the Zambales proper is via a private car or hire a van. You can use the Waze app to guide you through the best roads to pass by for the least amount of time possible.

It usually takes around three hours to get here from Manila. Expect an extended drive if the traffic is heavy, or if you're going to a further part of the province.

You can also stop by to ask the locals for directions, or get yourself a Zambales map to get a better overview of your trip.

Catch Victory Liner buses from Manila and research the closest terminals near you. The two most popular ones are Cubao, Quezon City (northern part of Metro Manila) or Pasay City (closer to NAIA).

Take the one that's bound for Olongapo. The trip will last around four hours. If you're going to San Antonio, you can take a 40-minute bus ride from Olongapo when you alight.

If you're coming from the Clark International Airport (CIA) from other parts of the Philippines or the globe, these will be your preferred travel options:

Similar to driving from Manila, you can check the Waze app to help you get to the Olongapo or Subic town proper. It should only take you a 45-minute drive as Clark Airport is already in the northern part of Zambales. You may also get by with the help of locals since you're already in their territory.

At Clark, head for the Dau bus terminal in Angeles City. It's 15 minutes away from Clark Airport. There are buses there that are bound for Olongapo as well.

It should take roughly one to two hours, depending on the traffic. If the buses are full, there are vans available to take you to the same destination. The travel time is roughly the same, if not faster since it won't have as many multiple stops.

If you're going to visit Subic in particular, or if your hotel will be located there, you can go here straight from Clark. Victory Liner has a schedule of bus rides that will take you right from the airport to Subic or Olongapo.

It will take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. These buses leave on time regardless if it's full, so make sure to catch the ride at the time most convenient for you.

Many Zambales resorts are overall an affordable place to stay in. They fight for the attention of tourists as they all have different advantages to offer, such as location, amenities, size, and views.

If you're planning to stay overnight at the coves, you could try camping for free or book a stay at one of the glamping resorts . If you're not about that camping life, here are the options you can choose from depending on your budget. Note that most of these are hotels in Subic .

If you're up for a half-day of thrills and excitement, you can head over to Inflatable Island. It's the Philippines' first water park that floats on the sea.
