Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa – How to get there and more info

Want to know more about the famous Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa? It’s one of the best beaches in Cyprus and has long attracted foreigners from all over the world.

The beach is known for its lively atmosphere, watersports, and of course the amazing color of the water and white sand.

Nissi Beach has been awarded Blue Flag status and has consistently been ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. It’s one of the most visited beaches in Cyprus, and although it’s crowded in the summer months, it’s still worth to visit at least once.

The beach is especially popular among the younger crowds, but it’s also a great family beach since the water is shallow. There are also different sections of the beach, and the one closest to the small islet is the most crowded spot, whereas further to the left you will find the atmosphere to be calmer with fewer people.

The small island is easy to reach, either by foot or swimming. A lot of people are walking over there to explore the small islet, which is also great for snorkeling.

It is also in this part of Nissi Beach where you will find the watersport section that has lots of fun activities for the whole family.

If you want to experience Nissi Beach without the crowds, then I suggest that you come here in May or June, or September and October. The months of July and August are typically very crowded, just like many other popular beaches in Europe.

The beach stretches for about 500 meters, and it’s truly an amazing beach with crystal clear waters and fine golden-white sand.

How to get to Nissi Beach

From larnaca.

The journey from Larnaca takes about 42 minutes by car, and it’s very easy to drive there via the highway A3. Take the exit to E326 and the Sotou Chatziprokopiou, and just follow the road until you get to Nissi Avenue, where you turn right, and then you will almost be at the parking space.

From Nicosia

If you’re driving from Nicosia, it will take about 1 hour to get to Nissi Beach by car. Just like if going from Larnaca, you’ll drive on the A3, and take the exit to E326.

From Paphos

Going from Paphos might not be something the typical tourist does, but considering that the beaches are much better on the east side, it might be worth the trip. You can drive from Paphos on highway A3 and follow the same route from Larnaca and onwards.

The journey takes about 2 hours. Unfortunately, there is no direct bus from Paphos, so you will need to rent a car.

From Protaras

Protaras is located east of Ayia Napa, and the drive takes about 24 minutes. The fastest route is via E306, and then A3.

How to get to Nissi Beach by bus

Tourists staying in Paralimni, Protaras or Ayia Napa can take bus number 101, and jump off at Nisi Avenue 1 or Agias Theklas 1. From there it’s just a short walk to the beach. If you’re staying in Larnaca, there is also an intercity bus (number 711) that stops right next to the beach.

You can check the bus time schedule here

Restaurants Serving Traditional Cypriot Cuisine

When it comes to experiencing the local food culture of Cyprus, one cannot miss out on traditional Cypriot cuisine. Nissi Beach offers a wide range of restaurants that serve authentic and delicious Cypriot dishes.

One such restaurant is "Nissiotis", a family-run business that has been serving traditional Cypriot food for the past 30 years. Some of their must-try dishes include keftedes (meatballs), souvlaki (grilled meat skewers), and moussaka (a dish made with layers of eggplant, minced meat, and béchamel sauce).

Another popular restaurant is "To Kati Allo", which translates to "something else" in English. This cozy little restaurant serves an array of mezes (small plates) that allow diners to taste various dishes.

Their signature dish is the grilled halloumi cheese served with fig jam, which perfectly balances the saltiness of the cheese with the sweetness of the jam. If you're looking for something more upscale, then "Taverna Napa" is a great choice.

Located right on Nissi Beach, this seafood restaurant offers stunning views while you dine on fresh fish caught from the sea just outside their doorstep. The menu includes classic Cypriot dishes such as grilled octopus and calamari and international options like sushi.

International Cuisine Options Available Near The Beach

While traditional Cypriot cuisine is undoubtedly delicious, sometimes one craves something different. Luckily, Nissi Beach has plenty of international cuisine options available. For Italian food lovers, "La Piazza" is a must-visit spot.

Serving pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven and pasta made fresh daily, this cozy restaurant transports you straight to Italy. Their truffle gnocchi and Margherita pizza are highly recommended.

For those who prefer more privacy and independence during their stay, villa rental is another option that is available in the Nissi Beach area. The villas have all the amenities, such as fully equipped kitchens, swimming pools, and outdoor barbeque areas.

Villa Nissi Blue, for instance, offers a spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea with its contemporary architecture and private pool. Meanwhile, Villa Thelma suggests a blend of traditional Cypriot and modern styles featuring lush greenery surrounding an infinity pool.

Comparison Between Different Types of Accommodation Options

When it comes to choosing between these different types of accommodation options near Nissi Beach, there are a few factors to consider. Hotels offer the benefit of having all services provided on-site whilst resorts have more varied leisure amenities for guests to enjoy.

Villas provide greater privacy and freedom; however, they may require guests to perform their own housekeeping duties. The proximity to Nissi Beach is also important when deciding where to stay.

Hotels like Adams Beach Hotel & Spa are only a few minutes walking distance from the beach, while Villa Nissi Blue requires a five-minute drive. In terms of cost-effectiveness, hotels usually offer better value for money than resorts or villas due to the wide range of facilities they provide at no additional cost.

However, renting a villa might be more budget-friendly than booking multiple hotel rooms if you plan on staying for an extended period or with a large group. No matter which type of accommodation you choose near Nissi Beach, you will have an enjoyable stay at this picturesque location in Cyprus!

Water Sports such as Jet Skiing, Parasailing, and Windsurfing

Several water sports are available for those seeking more adrenaline-filled experiences at Nissi Beach. Jet skiing provides an exhilarating ride along with stunning views of the coastlines while parasailing offers a bird's eye view of the beach below.

Nissi Beach

Beaches blue flagged.

Send your question

Perhaps the most famous – and preferred – of Cyprus’s beaches, frequented by locals and visitors alike, the blue-flagged Nissi Beach is the island’s poster child: golden sand, shallow aquamarine waters, and – in summer – more baking bodies than the eye can see!

Located right off Ayia Napa’s eponymous Nissi Avenue, the beach is easily accessible by regional public transport, and is also served by various bus and taxi routes from other cities on the island. And once there, there’s no shortage of things to do: the 600-metre coastline boasts excellent swimming, a variety of water sports from certified specialists, shops (offering everything from plastic lilos to sunhats), and several bars and restaurants.

Sunbeds and umbrellas are hotly-contested throughout summer (many people plump for a towel at the water’s edge!), and lifeguards are on duty from April, May, September and October, from 9:00 to 17:00, and in June, July and August, from 10:00 to 18:00.

Younger crowds will be attracted to Nissi’s all-day party atmosphere: at night, the waterfront becomes a dance party, hosting a variety of events throughout the summer. In the winter months, however, it’s a bit of a ghost town, with only the bravest of souls venturing into the sea!

Nissi beach

Nissi Beach is a popular beach in the resort of Ayia Napa, Cyprus. The beach stretches for 500 metres and the water is clean enough for the beach to have been awarded the blue flag designation. The beach, which runs the length of its own cove, takes its name from the small islet of Nissi located close to the coast. The uninhabited islet can be easily reached on foot through the shallow waters and its location provides a good shelter for the rest of the beach. The islet is covered with low-level local vegetation. Nissi Beach has become a popular destination for clubbers following live programs transmitted through BBC's Radio 1 Roadshow during the summer tourist season since 2002. Nissi Bay Beach Bar is very popular with locals and tourists alike, playing music throughout the day and organizing events such as foam parties and catwalks with guest DJs.

Nissi Beach

Parties and laid-back beach shacks, with added islet

BY SAMANTHA SHIELDS

Facebook

Water that’s bluer and warmer than you thought possible, plus white sand and a teardrop-shaped islet to swim out to and bask on. Cyprus is renowned for its fine beaches, but Nissi stands out. High season in July is party season. Temperatures soar, and DJs, deep tans and water sports rule, but the island’s laid-back, friendly feeling is always there.

Ramshackle beach shacks grilling halloumi cheese and souvlaki thrive alongside the cocktail bars. A wander along the seafront can lead to bargaining with grizzled fishermen to set a price for a short boat trip east to explore the sea caves at Cape Greco, or sharing a strong sweet coffee with the owner of a beachside shop selling soaps and lotions made from local olive oil. The sun shines almost all year round in Cyprus. In early spring and late fall the heat is less blistering and the partygoers have flown home. That shimmering water is still warm and visitors might have Nissi almost to themselves.

Did you know? Archaeologists believe the area around Nissi Beach may have been home to the first humans on Cyprus.

Nissi Beach - Blue Flag

The golden sandy beach.

Located 3.3 km west of the centre of the popular tourist resort of Agia Napa, the 600-metre long beach of Nissi Beach is among the most famous in the region, attracting large crowds with its alluring combination of beautiful coast, music, bars and beach parties.

Covered in fine, golden sands, the beach is formed inside a natural bay, and has shallow and calm seawaters that are sheltered against winds. It forms part of the larger Nissi Beach area, and takes its name from the small island (‘nissi’ in Greek) that is located nearby.

Facilities on the beach include toilets, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas, water sports facilities, beach bars, a diving school and organised events, whilst there a variety of accommodation, restaurants and kiosks in the area.

Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from April - October.

Access is easy by foot, bike or car, and there are car-parking facilities. The beach also offers disabled access.
