Before I arrived on this tour I thought my highlights would be Barcelona and San Sebastian but honestly, I enjoyed every moment of the holiday! The food and drink in this region is excellent and relatively cheap compared to the UK. You don't spend much time on the tour at the start in Barcelona or at the end in Madrid so I would recommend booking at least an extra night pre/post tour to be able to both great cities. Pamplona has a nice historical old town with some nice walks. San Sebastian is just the place to go to for foodies but is also a nice place in its own right! Logrono is the capital of the La Rioja region so you know you'll get to taste some good wine. I will definitely be coming back to this region! For the tour overall, I felt that we didn't really need 2 nights in Logrono and could have done with either an extra night in San Sebastian to visit Bilbao or a night in Bilbao itself. And that's taking into account the included evening tour of Logrono and the winery tour activities. Beware the 4hr + coach journey from Logrono to Madrid. Our tour leader, Maria Christina did a great job considering that she had to take over at short notice. She organised all our public transport and organised the optional meals, selecting some very decent restaurants. I definitely think she made the trip more enjoyable! I had great fun on this trip and hopefully have made some good friends for life!

My Highlights of Spain trip was amazing! I booked, showed up, and everything was taken care of! I have always wanted to visit the Southern part of Spain and this trip ticked off so many cities on my bucket list. The food quality was great (iberico ham and sangria, yum!) and the hotels were really nice! Lola was the BEST and really made the trip special. After 9 days of travelling together, she treated us to her beautiful singing at our Farewell dinner. Not a dry eye in the house!

We took an 16-day tour with this firm, and everything exceeded our expectations. The sights we saw were breathtaking, and our tour guides were outstanding. We went on an English/Spanish tour, and the majority of our group was from South America and spoke Spanish. The extra package that includes lunch and select entertainment is highly recommended. Thank you very much for this opportunity!

Andalusia and Morocco from Barcelona Tour

Andalusia and Morocco from Barcelona

Everything was pretty good, the guides were great. My only major problem was that they changed our final day in Madrid to a final day in Toledo. I was really looking forward to Madrid as part of the trip, as advertised. The reason it was moved to Toledo was because of a prescheduled doctor's convention. I guess the hotels in Madrid were taken. This information was known to the public prior to me booking the trip. A better run company would known that the conference was taking place before advertising that Madrid was a final destination.

What people love about barcelona to madrid tours.

I really loved our tour guide Ana Rita Lima. She helped us through a couple rough patches and I appreciate that. Very energetic and delightful!! I loved every bit of the tour except the hotel quality on the first night of the tour. It needed a vending machine that worked and more opportunity to get snacks upon arrival. It was just very basic. Also the hotel in ( I can't remember which city) we didn't have air conditioning. Our tour guide told us of where to be cautious (pick pockets) and some things we should be aware of. I appreciate that they stopped regularly for food and bathrooms breaks. Our driver, Rui, ( proved to have great skill, navigating in traffic, fog, rain and parking!! Overall, a great tour, with important history and valuable information!! With the exception of two poor quality hotels it was a memory that will last a life time. By the way, the Best Western in Barcelona is much better than the one we stayed in on the tour.

Classic Barcelona to Madrid

7 days | experience spain from barcelona to madrid on this east coast adventure.

Ninots, figures to be burnt during fallas festival, Valencia, Spain

Make your way southbound along the beautiful eastern coastline of Spain on your way from Barcelona to Madrid. This seven-day adventure will be a food and culture lover's dream, with stops in the birthplace of paella, a trip to a cava winery in the heart of the Catalonian wine region, visits to ancient oceanside amphitheatres, behind-the-scenes looks at the construction of festival statues, and more tapas than you can stomach! Explore Spanish beaches on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea and indulge in locally made churros. There’s a little something for everyone in this Spanish crusade.

Trip overview

  • Travel from Barcelona to Madrid along the eastern coast of Spain, taking in Tarragona’s Roman amphitheatre and perhaps an agua de Valencia in Valencia along the way.
  • Learn about the history and artistry of the unique Fallas festival of Valencia by meeting a professional artist in their workshop to find out how they construct these intricately detailed statues, often of enormous sizes.
  • Enjoy glasses of locally produced cava – a Spanish sparkling wine produced in the Catalonian wine region. Sip on samples while strolling through a vineyard and enjoy a tapas-style lunch of cured meats, cheeses, and other delectable dishes.
  • Look out over the Mediterranean Sea and the sprawling ‘City in the Sea’ from the walls of Peniscola Castle. Built on the highest point in the city, it juts out into the ocean on its clifftop position, giving you an uninterrupted view of the city below.
  • Savour a Spanish favourite at a Madrid insititution – cinnamon and sugar-dusted churros with velvety chocolate sauce from a churreria that has over a century of expertise.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll learn about our Intrepid Foundation partner, Casa Caridad. Donations help them provide basic needs such as food and shelter for people in need in Valencia. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.
  • We recommend packing light and smart for this trip as you'll be required to carry your own luggage between train stations and hotels, which can include going up and down multiple flights of stairs, and across cobblestones.
  • Summer temperatures can be extreme in this region (over 40C/104F). It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat, and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
  • This trip doesn't spend much time in Barcelona or Madrid so we recommend extending your trip to enjoy these cities to their fullest. Please speak to your booking agent about adding additional nights of accommodation to your booking.

Hola! Welcome to Spain. Whether you’re here for the architecture, the food, or the football team, there’s something for everyone in Barcelona. This evening, you’ll be meeting up with your leader and group for a welcome meeting at 6 pm. If you arrive early, there’s plenty to do – check out the incredible architecture by Antoni Gaudí (making an essential stop at Sagrada Familia), wander La Rambla, Barcelona’s most famous street, or get up close to Pablo Picasso’s early works at the Picasso Museum. After your welcome meeting, take a trip to a local bar for an aperitivo – the perfect opportunity to get to know your group. Why not keep the good times rolling and grab an optional dinner together, cheersing to what promises to be an excellent week ahead.

There are no meals included on this day.

  • Barcelona - Welcome aperitivo

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place. If you can't arrange a flight that will arrive in time, you may wish to arrive a day early so you're able to attend. We'll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability).

Head south to the charming Catalan town of Vilafranca del Penedes. Today you’ll be stopping for lunch at a vineyard, where you’ll feast on cured meats, cheeses, and other local favourites. Wander through the vines and enjoy a tasting of cava (a Spanish sparkling wine). After lunch, continue into town where your leader will take you on a walk around the streets. As the wine capital of Catalonia, there’s plenty of delicious wines to sample – just check in with your leader for the best streetside bars to sample another glass or two of Spanish vino. Take a walk through the Gothic district and visit the Santa Maria Basilica. Hitting the road again, you’ll reach your home for the night – Tarragona. Why not gather your group and head out for dinner, finding the best cassola de romesco (a signature dish traditionally made of fresh seafood cooked in romesco sauce).

  • Vilafranca del Penedes - Leader-led orientation walk
  • Vilafranca del Penedes - Cava vineyard with tastings

Your travel time today will be approximately 2.5 hours.

Waking up in Tarragona, step out with your leader for an orientation walk through this beautiful coastal town. Stopping by Tarragona’s Roman Amphitheatre, you’ll have as much time as you’d like to explore the 2nd century BC structure. Overlooking the ocean, the amphitheatre was built to hold up to 14,000 spectators and was host to rowdy gladiator fights. The rest of the day is your own. Why not explore more of this beautiful beachside town’s Roman history or wander down to El Serrallo – Tarragona’s port district, where you’ll find some of Spain’s best seafood. Stroll through the medieval city centre and up to the crowning glory of the Catedral de Tarragona, where you can find both Romanesque and Gothic features, the remains of an ancient Roman temple, or book yourself in for a rooftop tour to get the best view of Tarragona in town. Looking to stretch out and relax? This is the perfect place to lay on a patch of golden sand and enjoy the sounds of the Mediterranean.

  • Tarragona - Roman amphitheatre (entrance fee)
  • Tarragona - Leader-led orientation walk

Your first stop today is at the Les Ferreres Aqueduct – an ancient Roman bridge and part of an aqueduct that supplied water to the region. Built in the 1st century BC, and at over 200 m long and 24 m high, you’ll take a stroll across this still-standing piece of history. Travel onwards to Peniscola where your leader will take you on an orientation walk of this ‘City in the Sea.’ Head up to the stunning coastal cliffs where you’ll find the Peniscola Castle. Built on the highest point of the city by the Knights Templar, the castle and its grounds jut out into the ocean and overlook the city below. Why not grab some lunch by the beach before jumping back in your vehicle and continuing on to Valencia.

  • Tarragona - Les Ferreres Aqueduct
  • Peñiscola - Leader-led orientation walk
  • Peñiscola - Castle visit

Your travel time today will be approximately 4 hours.

Birthplace of paella, home to Gothic architecture, quirky galleries and museums, and more festivals than you can keep track of – there is no shortage of fun to get up to in the coastal city of Valencia. This morning, you and your group will make your way to the Fallas Museum, where you’ll learn all about the traditional Fallas Festival. Each year between the 15th and 19th of March intricate sculptures (many of them enormous) are erected around the town. On the last day, these sculptures are set on fire to mark the end of the festival and welcome spring, with only two chosen to be saved and placed in the museum. After checking out the museum, you’ll have a private tour of a workshop where you can watch a fallero artist designing and building their sculptures for the next festival. After the museum, you’ll be treated to a traditional paella lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore the city.

Today, you’ll be hopping on the train and heading off to your final destination on this Spanish adventure – Madrid. On arrival your leader will take you on an orientation walk, finishing up at a churreria where you’ll indulge in the local favourite – churros! The rest of the day is yours so be sure to ask your leader how to tailor your afternoon to your interests. You might like to visit the Golden Triangle of Art – three world-renowned museums that are home to some of the world’s most valuable collections of art, jump on the Teleferico and see the city from the world's most horizontal cable car, or wander through an ancient Egyptian temple at Templo de Debod. Tonight, you can rejoin your group for an optional farewell dinner where you can send off your new friends in style!

  • Madrid - Churros con chocolate
  • Madrid - Leader-led orientation walk

Your travel time today will be approximately 3 hours.

Your journey through Spain comes to an end today. Say adios to your leader and group before parting ways. • In order to enter Spain, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.
  • We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
  • Beginning in 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.
  • Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2025, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center .
  • If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact your destination country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
  • You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/entry-requirements and searching the code SMB.
  • You will walk for at least 1 hour daily across moderately uneven terrain, including paved roads and dirt paths, with some hills.
  • Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance. Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.
  • You should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at times, as well as getting in and out of trains.
  • Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special, individual mobility assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group as a whole enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing, individualized assistance to any one traveler.
  • If you have any mobility concerns or physical restrictions, please contact our Customer Experience Team.
  • Round-trip flights booked through Go Ahead Tours arrive in Barcelona and depart from Seville (or Málaga on the tour extension). A representative from Go Ahead Tours will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Please remain in the arrival lounge, as the representative might be escorting one of your fellow travelers to the bus at the time of your arrival.
  • Transfers to and from the airport at your destination are included for travelers who have purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who purchase their own flights may request airport transfers with Go Ahead Tours for an additional cost.
  • Train rides from Barcelona to Madrid and Madrid to Córdoba are included in the price of your tour.
  • All other included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.
  • Please note that our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one personal item per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other transfers, which may include train connections or flights.
  • Contact your airline(s) for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flights, which may include on-tour flights in addition to your round-trip flights to and from tour. Please note that your included on-tour flights may have more restrictive baggage limits.
  • Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage or exceed baggage size and weight restrictions. Be advised that you are responsible for any baggage fees incurred on all flights.
  • Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents in your carry-on bag.
  • Porterage is not included for the train transfers. Travelers must be comfortable lifting and carrying all luggage over steps, onto platforms, and into luggage storage. The storage space on the train is extremely limited, so we recommended traveling with only one suitcase per person (and a personal item, such as a backpack or purse).
  • We recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
  • A sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is recommended for sightseeing.
  • You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance.
  • It is preferable not to visit churches or other religious sites with bare legs and shoulders (and entrance may be denied on this basis).
  • At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements, or visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov .
  • If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour as well as any possible delays encountered.
  • If you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies please notify Go Ahead Tours at least 30 days prior to departure by logging in to your account and updating your traveler info. To update this information closer to your departure date, please call our Customer Experience Team.
  • In Spain, breakfast like a local with just a pastry and coffee. Then, tuck into a three-course lunch featuring a Spanish staple like savory seafood paella or grilled meat and fried potatoes. Dinner is less hearty than lunch and is served late, between 9pm and midnight. Snack on small plates called tapas any time of day.
  • Catalan cuisine, which can be found in Barcelona, is markedly different from food in other parts of Spain. Nearly every restaurant will offer pa amb tomàquet —toasted bread with tomato and olive oil. Fresh seafood, hearty meat dishes, cheeses, and locally grown vegetables, such as wild mushrooms, are culinary mainstays.
  • Cuisine in Spain's southern Andalusia region is heavily influenced by surrounding countries, and has many Arabic elements. Kebabs are popular, and desserts are often prepared with almonds, honey and cinnamon. Be sure to try Serrano ham, which is considered a regional delicacy, as well as the famous chilled soup known as gazpacho .
  • Spain operates on the European standard 220-240 volts and uses Types C, E, or F plugs with two small, round pins.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
  • The strength of the air conditioning in European hotels is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
  • Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
  • Spain is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and six hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
  • When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm on tour.
  • You will use the euro on this tour.
  • Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
  • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
  • You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
  • Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
  • International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
  • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
  • We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
  • If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
  • Tips can only be paid in cash.
  • Most optional excursions will be available for purchase while you are on tour.
  • Your Tour Director will only accept cash (in USD only), Visa, or MasterCard as payment for excursions.
  • Please be advised that if you pay for an excursion by credit card while on tour, it may take up to three months for your card to be charged.
  • Some optional excursions may only be purchased in advance. See page four of your tour itinerary for more information.

The next total solar eclipse will hit these two popular world travel destinations in 2026, iceland-spain eclipse in 2026.

Feeling FOMO from not traveling for the Great Texas-Indiana Eclipse of 2024? Yeah, we know. Then it's not too soon to daydream about the next total solar eclipse, coming to Iceland and Spain on Aug. 12, 2026. It makes for a tantalizing choice for travelers.

Around 5 p.m. GMT, the zone of totality will fall across western Iceland, including the acclaimed, remote Snaefellsnes Peninsula and the Reykjavik region, with more than two minutes of blackout. Then the moon's shadow crosses to northern Spain, on a swath between Barcelona and Madrid, for almost two minutes of totality. It ends near sunset over the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, etc.). Eastern Greenland, far northern Russia and a sliver of Portugal will also get in on the total darkness.

Grand Marais, Minn., will see about 6% of the sun eclipsed that day; Minneapolis will see only 0.49%. The next TSEs to be visible in the continental U.S.? Set reminders for Aug. 23, 2044, and Aug. 12, 2045.

Airbnb updates cancellation policy

Airbnb is updating its Extenuating Circumstances Policy, including renaming it the Major Disruptive Events Policy. Under this updated cancellation policy, guests can cancel reservations and receive refunds in cases of "foreseeable weather events," such as hurricanes, that would result in another covered event occurring, such as large-scale utility outages. According to Travel + Leisure, the policy already applies to other unexpected major events, such as declared public health emergencies, including epidemics, but excluding COVID-19. This revised policy, which will go into effect on June 6, overrides individual hosts' own cancellation policies. This updated policy also applies to mid-trip cancellations, so travelers can receive refunds for the unused portion of their stays in the event of a covered cancellation.

Rock star Sammy Hagar is opening

Sammy Hagar in Vegas

Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar is setting up Sammy's Island at the Palms Pool in Las Vegas, opening May 17. Its signature party platform is the island in the middle of the deck, encircled by pools, cabanas and revelers on deck chairs. Such hits as "I Can't Drive 55," "Right Now," and "Why Can't This Be Love" will emanate from the spot. Sammy's Island is essentially Hagar's famously free-spirited personality adapted to Vegas. The Palms Pool's tropical vibe fits the Captain of Cabo Wabo's general concept to build a rock-party oasis similar to his buoyant beachside birthday parties. "I'm not a big planner. I'm a big thinker. So I just started thinking, let's build something with a Cabo Wabo theme, and have everything I would ever want in one place," Hagar said. "So we created that."

"I don't rule out Barcelona or Madrid, but at the moment I am not able to get there" - Rafael Nadal opens up on about physical and mental struggles

Rafael Nadal has made an honest admission about the physical and mental hurdles standing in the way of his comeback to the tour.

Nadal's return to the tour suffered yet another delay, as he recently announced his withdrawal from the Monte-Carlo Masters. The Spaniard disclosed that despite all his efforts, his body simply "wouldn't allow him to compete," forcing him to forgo competing at the Masters 1000 event, where he is an 11-time champion.

Despite his withdrawal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion kept up his practice sessions on clay, keeping hopes alive for his participation at the French Open. He recently made a public appearance as well, cheering on his hometown club RCD Mallorca during their Copa del Rey final against Athletic Club.

Speaking to Movistar while at the game, Rafael Nadal reaffirmed that his body's limitations were preventing him from competing. He also shared that, while he was satisfied in his personal life, his career was marred by difficulties.

"My body won't let me, it's getting difficult for me. It's been a difficult year and a half, I'm trying every day. I have things to solve and the reality is that at the moment I'm not being able to put myself in a position to compete, it's hard," he said.
"On a personal level everything is good, on a professional level it is difficult, and you also have to weigh the bad moments and those that you would never have imagined experiencing," he added.

While not ruling out the possibility of making a comeback at the Barcelona Open or Madrid Open later this month, the Spaniard emphasized his current inability to do so due to lingering physical issues.

He admitted to grappling with mental challenges as well, but maintained that his primary obstacles remained physical.

"I don't rule out anything, not even being in Barcelona or Madrid, but at the moment I am not being able to get there due to physical problems," he said.
"Many people have mental problems and I also have them when in my work I can't manage to fight for my goals but no, it's physical, I have abdominal problems since I returned from Australia, we are trying things, we are going day by day," he added.

"Rafael Nadal is still not recovered, especially when it comes to serving" - Spaniard's uncle Toni

Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni recently echoed the former World No. 1's remarks about his physical condition not allowing him to compete, disclosing that the Spaniard wasn't fully recovered, as evidenced by his struggles with serving.

"He [Rafael Nadal] is still not recovered… especially when it comes to serving because he has no problem with everything else when he trains," he said.

Toni also backed the 22-time Grand Slam champion's decision to pull out of the Monte-Carlo Masters, suggesting that it wasn't worth participating if he wasn't fully fit.

"Either you're going one hundred percent or it's better not to participate," he added.

Additionally, Nadal's uncle asserted that his nephew would be the "clear favorite" at the 2024 French Open if he managed to recover in time for the claycourt Major.

UEFA criticised over ticket allocations for Champions League, Europa League finals

UEFA

UEFA has been criticised by the Football Supporters Europe (FSE) association after ticket allocations for the 2024 men’s Champions League and Europa League finals were confirmed on Tuesday.

It was announced that this year’s Champions League final, which will take place at Wembley on June 1, will see each team involved allocated 25,000 tickets of the 86,000 that are available in total. The remaining tickets will be offered for general sale to fans worldwide.

This season’s Europa League final, which will be held at the Dublin Arena in the Republic of Ireland on May 22, will see the two clubs that progress to that stage allocated 12,000 tickets each out of the 48,000 that are available.

The FSE has taken issue with the allocation to supporters of the participating clubs, calling on UEFA to increase the amount of tickets available.

A statement from the FSE read: “The FSE calls on UEFA and the local organisers to do right by the supporters and increase these allocations.

“Some encouraging progress has been made in recent seasons following repeated calls to do so by FSE.

“The 2023-24 UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley will see the largest finalists’ allocation for the competition in a decade (58 per cent), while for the Europa Conference League Final in Athens, 66 per cent of tickets will go to the finalist clubs’ supporters, which is an all-time high for any UEFA club competition final.

“Despite this, a consistent approach across all finals is still needed. A paltry 50 per cent of capacity for Europa League finalist clubs is, simply, not good enough and falls well short of FSE’s demand to provide at least 66 per cent of tickets for all European finals to supporters of the teams involved.

“Fans of competing teams need to be given clear priority over public sale options.”

When approached for comment on the FSE statement, UEFA told The Athletic : “After extensive discussions with the local authorities regarding operational and logistical operations as well as the designated access routes to the ends of the stadium occupied by supporters of each of the finalists, it has been decided that the two clubs that reach the final can receive a maximum of 12,000 tickets each.”

Jurgen Klopp questioned UEFA’s distribution of tickets for the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Paris in 2022, but UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin defended the ticket allocation claiming that “the system works.”

“I explained the same thing (why there are fewer tickets for supporters) to one of the coaches from one of the two teams a couple of days ago. I explained it to him and went through everything,” said Ceferin.

“First of all, UEFA, from the revenues from the final, gets 6.5 per cent and 93.5 per cent goes to the clubs. From the other matches, 100 per cent of the revenue goes to the clubs.

“Fans of both teams gets 20,000 tickets each. If sponsors that pay €100 million or more for sponsorships, of which 93.5 per cent goes to the same clubs, get some tickets because of a contractual obligation that we have.

“UEFA does not get more tickets than the others. Some tickets go to the market, some go to the fans and some go to the partners. It is not UEFA. I am not giving tickets for free or selling them to my friends.

“The system works and clubs could not function differently. For us, not much would change if the tickets were €10, but a lot would change for the clubs.”
