The Eagles Announce ‘The Long Farewell’… But Will They Visit Aus?

“This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

The Eagles are actually going on their last tour ever. The Long Farewell starts in September, when the legendary rock'n'roll harmonisers will play a massive show at New York’s Madison Square Garden with special guests Steely Dan .

Just 13 US shows have been announced so far, but the band have vowed to “perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands.” The tour is "expected to continue into 2025," per Consequence Of Sound . Is Australia one of the destinations to which The Eagles are considering bringing their final tour?

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe, keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” the band wrote on their website .

They continued, “We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful. Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle.”

The Eagles’ Long Farewell  tour is currently in the planning stages. The iconic Hotel California group will reveal scheduling information as the dates are set, explaining that the difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights might require some tricky organising and returning to certain cities, depending on demand.

“But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

The Eagles last toured in Australia in March 2019 , a few years after the band announced another split following the tragic passing of Glen Frey (who the band pays tribute to at the bottom of their website).

The Music  praised the members’ virtuoso skills at their Rod Laver Arena concert in 2019, with writer Bryget Chrisfield declaring , “This show has great flow, with each alternating vocalist introducing himself (or conjuring a post-guitar solo round of applause) before singing their first number of the night.”

After more than 50 years, The Eagles are heading on the road for what they say will be their "final" tour.

On Thursday (overnight in Australia) the legendary band announced The Long Goodbye tour that is set to kick off on September 7 in New York City.

"The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds," the band said in a statement shared with CNN.

"We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful," the band's statement continued.

"Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle."

The Eagles' longtime friends and fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Steely Dan, will open for the Hotel California music makers.

According to the statement, The Eagles members Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, alongside Vince Gill and Deacon Frey "will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands."

The initial 13 tour stops were announced Thursday (overnight in Australia) and will include Boston, Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver and other cities, culminating in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday, November 17, 2023.

Presale tickets and VIP packages for the Live Nation-produced concerts will be available for purchase starting Wednesday, July 12 (Thursday, July 13 in Australia) for all the announced shows, while the general on-sale will start 10 a.m. local time on Friday, July 14 (Saturday, July 15 in Australia).

The tour is expected to continue into 2025. No Australian tour dates have been announced.

The Rolling Stones show no signs of slowing down as they begin their latest tour with Texas show

HOUSTON (AP) — Time marches on and all good things must come to an end. But don’t tell that to  The Rolling Stones .

What many believe to be the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as they kicked off their latest tour Sunday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Stones have been touring for more than 60 years. Frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both 80, with guitarist Ronnie Wood not far behind at 76. Their tour is being sponsored in part by AARP.

But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of band that was on tour for the first time.

“It’s great to be back in the Lone Star State,” Jagger told the packed stadium, filled with longtime fans, many wearing faded concert shirts from previous tours.

Jagger often strutted up and down the stage with seemingly boundless energy while Richards and Wood played many familiar guitar riffs beloved by fans. Jagger often led the audience in sing-alongs.

“The energy level is up and it’s always up with them. The age doesn’t show,” Dale Skjerseth, the Stones’ production director, said Friday before the concert.

The Stones have hit the road to support the release of their latest album,  “Hackney Diamonds,”  the band’s first record of original music since 2005.

Houston was the first stop on the band’s 16-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. Other cities on the tour include New Orleans, Philadelphia and Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour ends on July 17 in Santa Clara, California.

During Sunday’s 18-song concert set list, the Stones played several tracks off the new record, including lead single  “Angry.”  They also played classics including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimmer Shelter,” Honky Tonk Women” and “Start Me Up.”

After playing “Beast of Burden,” Jagger said that concertgoers in Houston had voted to include it on the set list.

“You can’t go wrong with that,” one man in the audience could be heard screaming.

The Stones also played some unexpected choices, including “Rocks Off,” from their 1972 double album “Exile on Main St.” and “Out of Time,” a 1966 song that Jagger said during the concert had not ever been played by the band in the U.S.

With the 2021  death of drummer Charlie Watts , the Stones are now comprised of the core trio of Jagger, Richards and Wood. On Sunday, they were backed by various musicians including two keyboardists, a new drummer, backup singers and a brass section.

While the stage was surrounded by a large collection of video screens projecting images throughout the show, the main focus of the concert was the band and their songs.

Before Sunday’s concert, Jagger spent time on Friday touring NASA’s Johnson Space Center in suburban Houston, posting photos on his Instagram account of him with astronauts inside Mission Control.

“I had an amazing trip to the space center,” Jagger said.

When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Skjerseth said he doubts that will happen.

“This is not the end. They’re very enthused,” he said.

The Eagles are in the middle of what may very well be the band’s final concert tour. As the group prepares to play more shows to huge crowds throughout Europe, their latest album has become another hit for the band–one that’s brought them back into the highest reaches of several Billboard charts.

This week, the Eagles hit the top 10 on three different tallies. The band debuts their latest project To The Limit: The Essential Collection inside the loftiest region on a trio of rosters, showing that there’s still intense interest in their music, even after decades together.

To The Limit debuts highest on the Top Rock Albums. On that ranking of the most-consumed rock full-lengths and EPs in the U.S., the new set from the Eagles opens at No. 6.

The same compilation starts at No. 8 on a very similar list, the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart. As its name suggests, that roster includes both pure rock and pure alternative titles, and it also focuses on total consumption of all eligible projects.

The Eagles come in just one rung lower on the Top Album Sales chart. To The Limit opens at No. 9 on that ranking of the bestselling efforts in America. According to Luminate, the latest offering from the band arrives with 6,987 copies purchased.

To The Limit marks the fifth top 10 for the Eagles on all three of those charts. On the genre-specific lists, the new release brings the band their first new win inside that tier since 2020. On the Top Album Sales chart, they reached the top 10 just last year.

The latest from the Eagles also manages to debut on the Billboard 200. That chart ranks all of the 200 most-consumed albums in the country, regardless of how long they’ve been around or what style of music they fit under. On that list, To The Limit launches at No. 30, earning one of the highest starts of the week. The set moved 22,115 equivalent units in its first seven days of availability.

The Australian golfer successfully defended her title to bag her fifth win on the LPGA Tour.

Australia’s Hannah Green successfully defended her title to win the LA Championship 2024 golf tournament at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles, California on Sunday.

It was the Australian golfer ’s fifth LPGA Tour title of her career and the second of the year following her win at the Women’s World Championship in Singapore in February.

The 27-year-old Hannah Green carded 12-under 272 (67-69-70-66) to bag the title from Sweden's Maja Stark by three strokes.

Grace Kim finished tied-25th (one-under), Sarah Kemp T-39 (one-over) and Karis Davidson was T-57 (+3) at the LA Championship 2024.

Aussie golfers Stephanie Kyriacou, Minjee Lee, Robyn Choi, Gabriela Ruffels and Hira Naveed did not make the cut.

“To obviously already win in Singapore and then win here this week I hope that I can get closer to my goal of being in the top 10 in the world and solidify my spot in the Olympics,” said Green, who fell three shots short of a medal at the Tokyo Olympics and finished fifth.

Hannah Green is currently world No. 18 in the women’s golf rankings and second among the Australians with Minjee Lee holding the sixth spot.

In golf , qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics is determined by rankings, limited to 60 men's and 60 women's players.

The top 15 players on the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR) can secure quotas for the Olympic Games, up to a maximum of four golfers from a single country.

After the top 15, the rankings consist of up to the top two eligible players per country, as long as that country does not already have at least two players in the top 15.

However, the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

If there was ever a festival made for James Taylor & His All-Star Band at this juncture of his 50-year career, it’s Day on the Green . The singer will perform at wineries in Queensland (Sirromet Wines in Mount Cotton), and New South Wales (Bimbadgen in the Hunter Valley, and Centennial Vineyards in Bowral) across April 2024. Taylor will be accompanied by Aussie pair Josh Pyke and Ella Hooper .

Taylor is also playing his own headline shows. After selling out dates in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, new shows have been added in those cities. A Live Nation pre-sale begins February 9 while general on-sale starts February 12.

Cult-favourite mathcore/hardcore/metal band Botch from Tacoma, Washington reunited last year more than two decades after their split – and now they’re embarking on their first-ever Aussie tour. The jaunt will include two dates in Melbourne and Sydney apiece as well as shows in Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.

Guitarist David Knudson has promised Botch will go all out: “We don’t want to half-ass it…we want to be fucking tight as we ever were, if not tighter. We don’t want to disappoint a fan that’s never seen us live. So you know, it’s all in or nothing.”

The Weeknd’s postponed tour of Australia is now canceled and ticket owners will be refunded.

The Canadian R&B superstar had initially scheduled an 11-date stadium tour of Australia and New Zealand, winding its way across both countries last November and December.

“The Weeknd ‘After Hours Til Dawn Tour’ for Australia & New Zealand is still in process of being rescheduled,” reads a statement from LN, seen by Billboard . “Whilst we continue to work through the rescheduling process with the artist, tickets for the existing 2023 tour will be cancelled with all ticket holders receiving a full refund accordingly.”

Ticket holders of the The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours Til Dawn Tour’ shows who previously held on to their tickets will be able to access a priority purchase window for the new tour in Australia and New Zealand when announced, the message reads, linking to a priority waitlist . All current ticket holders will receive an automatic refund.

The tour was originally announced last August with just four shows, visiting each of Australia’s big three east coast cities — Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane — and including a single date in Auckland, NZ.

Additional dates were added last September , boosting the itinerary to 11 across both markets.

The Weeknd’s tour is scrapped as Australia’s festivals market navigates turbulent waters. In recent weeks, the 2024 editions of Splendour in the Grass, Mona Foma, and Groovin The Moo, with soft ticket sales playing a part in each story.

The inaugural Soundcheck report, published by Creative Australia, found the climate for operating a festival was a “highly complex” one, with event organizers challenged with myriad issues, from rapidly increasing costs, changing ticket buying behavior and more.

In the U.S., he has landed seven No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 and four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200.

On Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart, published last Friday, April 19 , the Weeknd’s hits collection The Highlights lifts 8-4 in its 167th week on the tally. It’s triple-platinum certified in Australia.

Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter World Tour 2024: How To Get Tickets

P earl Jam’s massive international tour is kicking off very soon! The celebration of the band’s new album Dark Matter will hit stadiums across the world in the US, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, Australia, Germany, and Portugal. They’re also bringing along some killer supporting acts that include Deep Sea Diver, Richard Ashcroft, The Murder Capital, Glen Hansard, and Pixies. 

Luckily, it looks like tickets are still available for many of the upcoming dates. And we’ll help you snatch them up before they’re gone.

The first stop on the Pearl Jam 2024 Tour will be on May 4 in Vancouver, British Columbia at Rogers Arena with support from Deep Sea Diver. The final tour date will be on November 23 in Sydney, Australia at Giants Stadium with support from Pixies.

Ready to snag those tickets? The main spot to reserve your spot to see Pearl Jam live in 2024 will be the band’s website , though many tickets are already sold out there.

Ticketmaster also has a ton of tickets available, and select tour dates are currently selling presale tickets. Everything else is available for general sale where available.

If you can’t find tickets on Pearl Jam’s site or Ticketmaster, you can always check Stubhub . Stubhub is known for having at least some tickets available for sold-out shows. Plus, the platform’s FanProtect Program ensures that your purchase is legitimate and free of scams.

Health services in 'crisis' and relying too heavily on fly-in locums in Broken Hill, Far West NSW

The chair of a parliamentary committee examining health services in Far West New South Wales has warned the health system is in crisis and relies too heavily on fly-in locums.

The committee visited health outlets including the Broken Hill Base Hospital, Maari Ma Aboriginal Health Cooperation in Wilcannia, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Wagga Wagga MP Dr Joe McGirr, chair of the Select Committee for the Inquiry into Regional, Rural, and Remote Health, said it noticed the ongoing overuse of locums, during their visit to check on progress in implementing recommendations.

"The situation throughout rural NSW is getting worse. I'd say it is in crisis," he said.

"[There's] still a lot of reliance on agency staff and locum staff. We've just got to do better at making health professionals look at what the great opportunities are in remote and rural areas.

"NSW Health must work a lot harder and a lot smarter."

The committee was formed following a scathing report into NSW Health in 2022.

The report handed down  44 recommendations  to the then-Coalition government to address historic failures by the commonwealth and state governments that had led to workplace shortages and high costs of travel.

NSW Premier Chris Minns later committed to all 44 recommendations when he was elected.

Dr McGirr said the committee would do all it could to see the system change positively by talking to those who worked in communities but warned it would take time.

"In NSW, the Commonwealth is effectively missing in action. It's slow to change," he said.

"I think NSW Health has been making an effort to change."

Locums a band-aid solution

Professor Emeritus John Cole, from the University of Southern Queensland, said NSW Health was not the only health branch that had fallen into the trap of relying on locums.

"We have the situation where we spend millions of dollars flying people to the metropolitan hospitals, but it acts as an inhibitor for regional people accessing health services," he said.

While locums provide a short-term solution, they often do not spend much time in the community and miss out on the critical patient-health professional relationship.

Professor Cole said this could lead to people in remote communities opting not to get medical help in the early stages of illness.

"We can see differences in survivorship, partly because people simply decide to go a different way and ignore it," he said.

Health through a remote lens

Maari Ma Health chief executive Richard Weston said an complete overhaul of how health looked in remote communities could be the key.

"The solutions out of Sydney or Canberra are not designed to suit the needs of us in remote areas and are probably more suited to the bigger regional centres," Mr Weston said.

He said remote health districts could better service those living outside of regional centres.

"Outside of Broken Hill, we have a high Aboriginal population across sparsely populated areas," Mr Weston said.

"Things like transport, education food security and employment are challenges." 

Mr Weston said there also needed to be a wrap-around approach to attracting people to the state's Far West region.

"Things that help attract people to places like Broken Hill and the surrounding areas are good housing, access to a good social life, schooling for their kids, meaningful work and good incentives for people to relocate," he said.

Professor Cole said the way that Australians viewed the regions and remote communities needed to change.

"We as Australians have to engage in creating a different narrative about Australia," he said.

"Too often we depict regional Australia as second best, and it's not true."

The committee is expected to deliver its first report in the middle of the year.

Billie Eilish is bringing her world tour to Australia next year.

The pop superstar has announced several shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, all of which will take place next February and March (see full dates below). The Australian leg of her world tour will follow her North American tour dates and will be proceeded by her European, UK, and Ireland shows.

Tickets to Eilish’s Australian shows go on sale to the general public on Friday, May 3rd at staggered times. There will also be several pre-sales taking place for the tour (see below).

According to a press release, these shows will be Eilish’s only Australian tour dates in 2025.

The US singer-songwriter is touring in support of her new album Hit Me Hard and Soft , which comes out on May 17th. It’s the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s Happier Than Ever , which topped charts around the world including in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and US.
