"I would just like to say, you do an amazing job, always helpful, friendly. Provide an amazing service."

Thames River Cruises

Uber Boat by Thames Clippers is the fastest, most frequent and reliable fleet on the River Thames - carrying over 4 million passengers last year. Unlike most other forms of public transport, we are always reliable - the only days our river boats don’t run are Christmas and Boxing Day.

Thames River Boats

Our Thames river boats are fully equipped with comfortable seating and plenty of space. Our larger river boats all have licenced on-board bars, with a range of coffees, snacks and alcoholic drinks. They all have toilet facilities, and some even have baby changing facilities. Our Thames river buses have Metro and City AM newspapers available on board and Free Wi-Fi is available at our main piers. The experience of travelling through London on a Thames river bus is unlike any other form of travel, providing an epic experience for its users. Far more enjoyable than struggling for space on a packed London Underground tube, quicker than driving or getting the bus, and less exhausting than walking or riding your bike!

Our History

Starting in 1999 with just one boat in operation, our fleet has grown exponentially to 20 high-speed Thames river boats, offering services from all major London piers every 10-20 minutes. Our services cater for everyone from early morning commuters to night-time passengers. There are countless reasons to choose a London River Bus over any other form of transport – choose a Thames river cruise next time you need to travel through London.

London’s best Thames river cruises

Get a whole new perspective of the city with these top Thames river cruises

Think you’ve ticked off everything London has to offer? Think again. Try a Thames river cruise – and no, we’re not talking about the Clippers (well we are, but only a little bit). There are few better ways to take in the capital than by its famously choppy, murky central waterway. Plus the views, from Hampton Court down to the City and Greenwich, are some of the absolute finest our city has to offer.

It's time to ditch dry land and hop aboard a Thames river boat tour. And plenty of London’s top attractions are best seen from the water – so get your camera ready.

Best Thames river cruises in London

Thames Rockets

Thames Rockets

  • Ships and boats

Bring your waterproofs, because the slick RIB (rigid inflatable boat) operation offers a high-speed ride on the Thames. It's a great way to discover how exhilarating it can be to swoop along the Thames at almost 30 knots – that’s nearly 35 mph, nautical novices! We're not sure how much you'll actually be able to see, but there are plenty more leisurely-paced tours for that sorta thing.

Bateaux London Cruises

Bateaux London Cruises

  • Victoria Embankment

A good river cruise for those who want a spot of grub while taking in the sights along the Thames – Bateaux offer a full range of different dining cruises. There’s the lunch, afternoon tea and dinner cruise – or you could really pull the stops out and enjoy their three-course lunch with a live jazz band playing assorted swingin’ classics. All river cruises depart from Victoria Embankment.

City Cruises

City Cruises

  • Things to do
  • Walks and tours

Want to see the city in style? City cruises operate on a hop-on, hop-off basis and run from Westminster, Waterloo, Tower and Greenwich Piers with commentary along the way. All the departure points are convenient for the city’s various sights, with Greenwich Pier ideal for the Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory.

London Duck Tours

London Duck Tours

Praise whichever brilliant mind decided to paint the scant remaining WW2 landing vehicles in bright, rubber-duck yellow! These duck city tours take in all the typical land-based sights – then has two ‘splashdowns’ into the Thames as it goes into nautical mode and takes passengers around Docklands, Canary Wharf and Greenwich.

Thames RIB Experience

Thames RIB Experience

  • Sightseeing

Instead of a usual tour’s drab history lessons and endless stream of tedious facts, why not try something a little more thrilling? The Thames RIB Experience is more like a rollercoaster than a classic sightseeing tour, and sees passengers jetted across the water at an impressive 45mph. Lifejackets and waterproofs are provided (fortunately), leaving you free to enjoy whizzing around in figure-eights in open water between Tower Bridge and the Isle of Dogs. Try and take in some sights as the high winds reshape your face.

Thames River Boats

Thames River Boats

Thames River Boats take you all the way from the Palace of Westminster upriver to Hampton Court Palace. It’s a pretty leisurely 22-mile journey: in 90 minutes you’ll be at Kew; in another 90, you’ll be at Hampton Court. But this westward route is a lovely way to appreciate the Thames, as the banks get greener, less cluttered with high-rise buildings and the river buses are replaced by rowers.

Thames Clippers

Thames Clippers

These days the Thames Clippers are better known as ‘Uber Boats’, not because they’re the most incredible boats but because, you guessed it, they’re sponsored by a taxi company. Sure, they don’t go very fast (trundling along at a very leisurely 30mph), but they’re a pretty underrated, cost-effective way to traverse the Thames.

Vintage Red Bus Tour and Thames Cruise

Vintage Red Bus Tour and Thames Cruise

Why choose between the road and the river when you can have both? First up on this guided tour you'll be driven round the capital in a routemaster (that's the old red double decker bus), before boarding a Thames Cruiser to view the sites from the water. Sail past landmarks like Shakespeare's Globe and Tower Bridge, before getting back on the bus and heading to her Maj's residence: Buckingham Palace. There's also the option to add a ticket for the London Eye on this package.

Tate to Tate Boat

Tate to Tate Boat

A connecting service between either art institution, the Tate to Tate Boat runs every 40 minutes. Aside from getting you from one gallery to another, it’s also great for taking in lots of central London scenery. As you might expect, the boat itself is an arty affair: YBA Damien Hirst covered both the exterior and interior with his trademark spots. It’s also genuinely the quickest way to travel from Tate to Tate – this way, you avoid an irritatingly convoluted tube or bus journey.

Thames River Cruises in London: Options, Offers and Available Routes

Best River Cruises in London

The famous  Thames River Cruises in London are definitely one of the best things you can do during your visit to the city. And we would highly recommend it to anyone who is planning on visiting London, especially if it’s your first time in London.

By going on a cruise along the famous River Thames, you’ll see London from a unique perspective as it passes through the centre of the city. You will get to see most of the iconic buildings and landmarks of London, such as Big Ben (Houses of Parliament), the London Eye , Shakespeare’s Globe , St. Paul’s Cathedral , Tower Bridge , The Tower of London , The City Hall of London , the Shard … and many more.

Sightseeing Thames River Cruises: Available Routes

Before you book one of the Thames River Cruises available, it´s important to know that there are two types of routes that you can opt for:

  • Circular route: This route starts and ends at the same pier, so it goes up the river and then turns round to go back to where it started. It usually lasts approximately 45 minutes.
  • Hop-on Hop-off River Cruise: This options means that you can get on and off at different stops as many times as you like. If we’re honest – this is our favourite option as you can really make the most of it. To enjoy a whole day out, we would suggest starting in the area of Big Ben or the London Eye and head over to Greenwich. Get off at Greenwich, explore the area, and then go back to Tower Bridge and disembark at Tower Bridge Pier to have a wonder around the area of the Tower of London. You could then get back on board, and take the boat back to Westminster (London Eye / Big Ben).

Sightseeing Thames River Cruises

The best sightseeing Thames river cruises in London are the ones that are partly covered in our opinion, as you will be able to enjoy the cruise and the views in all weather conditions. Ideally, you want to be outside, to enjoy the cruise as much as possible, but if you know your cruise is partly covered, you won’t have to worry about the weather.

Sightseeing Thames River Cruises also include a tour guide, who will talk you through what you are seeing and what side of the river you need to look at. There are also headphones available to listen to the commentaries in different languages.

There are different options available when buying a Thames river sightseeing cruise to take in the best views of London:

  • You can buy tickets for a  circular cruise from Westminster to St Katharine’s dock
  • You can buy tickets for a  hop on hop off sightseeing cruise  with 4 stops: Westminster, London Eye, Tower Bridge and Greenwich.
  • You can buy tickets for a direct cruise that will take you from Westminster to Greenwich , perfect for visiting the Greenwich area.

Combining a Sightseeing Thames River Cruise with another London Attraction

Free thames river cruise when you buy tickets for the sightseeing bus tour in london.

When you buy tickets for the sightseeing bus in London, you get given a ticket for a free Thames river cruise  in London. The type of cruise included depends on the sightseeing bus tour that you choose. Some will include a round trip, whilst others will include a hop on hop off river cruise. There is time to go on a sightseeing bus tour and a river cruise in London in one day.

This is probably one of the best options if you are visiting London and want to get the most out of your trip to London.

London Pass

A London Pass card is a tourist pass that gives you FREE entry to over 60 of London’s most famous attractions. A one day access to a Hop On Hop Off Thames River Cruise is included in the London Pass. This is one of our recommendations on our suggested itineraries to make the most of the London Pass .

You can buy a London Pass for one day, two days, three days, six days or ten days. Making the most out of the London Pass isn’t very difficult at all, considering the amount of attractions included.

London Eye + Thames River Cruise combined ticket

You can combine your London Eye ticket with a Thames River Cruise ticket. Purchasing a London Eye Experience with a 40-minute circular sightseeing cruise, will give you the possibility of seeing London from the sky and the river! Thamesjet Speedboat

Another fun way to see London is to go on a thrilling River Thames speedboat ride. This is a fun-filled 50-minute ride, taking you along the most scenic stretch of the Thames first, allowing you to take plenty of photos.

It starts at Westminster Pier, and once it passes Tower Bridge the speedboat picks up the speed heading over to Canary Wharf at full-throttle.

This is a fantastic option if you are travelling to London as a family as the kids will love the experience.

Thames Cruise route map

Fares and routes for River Bus Cruises

The best route on the River Bus for sightseeing is the RB1 commuter service route, which covers the stretch of the river from London Eye to Greenwich. It has the following stops: London Eye – Embankment – Blackfriars – Bankside – London Bridge – Tower Bridge – Canary Wharf – Greenland – Masthouse Terrace – Greenwich – North Greenwich.

On this route, you will pass iconic places like Big Ben, the London Eye, Shakespeare’s Globe, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and Greenwich. You can buy a Thames Clipper Roamer Ticket for this sightseeing route of the River Bus, enabling you to hop on and hop off during the day at different stops.

See all River Bus Routes here

River Bus service: Buying tickets, prices and transport cards

To hop aboard a River Bus you can either buy your ticket online in advance or buy one at the ticket office. If the ticket office is closed you can buy a ticket on board. As the river bus is part of London’s Transport system, you can use your oyster card to pay as you go or your contactless card to use the service.

Roamer Ticket Prices

A roamer ticket gives you the option to hop on and hop off the River Bus all day. The prices for this roamer ticket are:

Adult: £19.50 Child (5-15): £9.75

⇒ You can buy a Thames Clipper Roamer Ticket here

Prices for the hop-on hop-off sightseeing river cruise are £ 18.75 adults and £12 child. When comparing prices,  you’ll see that the ticket prices for the river roamer ticket and the sightseeing cruise are actually very similar. But I think you get a lot more out of a sightseeing cruise. It is a much more enjoyable experience, as you have a tour guide explaining what you are seeing, and you can enjoy the cruise on the deck outside if the weather is nice.

You can also look at the city cruises website for more ticket options.

Using Oyster Card, Travelcard and Contactless Debit Cards

Want to go boating on the Thames but don't know how much budget you need? Read on!

London Thames Cruise Prices

The view from The Shard, London | ©Benjamin Davies

One of the most beautiful landscapes you will see during your trip to London is the Thames River crossing the heart of the city. On both sides of its banks rise several of the most famous monuments of the British capital that have transformed its skyline to become a tourist attraction in itself.

If the idea of navigating the waters of the Thames by boat like a sailor appeals to you, the first thing you will need to know to plan the activity is how much the tickets for a Thames cruise cost, where to buy them and if there is any way to save a little on the tickets. All that and more I tell you below!

What budget do I need for a Thames cruise?

If you feel like doing a cruise on the Thames but you are traveling to London on a tight budget or do not want to invest too much money in the activity, from 15 € you can get a ticket to ride on a boat with which to sail the waters of the river.

It is the cheapest option and you will make a closed tour of one hour on the Thames seeing many of the tourist attractions that are scattered along its course:

  • The Palace of Westminster.
  • The London Eye .
  • The Tower of London .
  • The Tower Bridge .

However, if you want to take a cruise on the Thames but you are looking for a little more flexibility in the activity, for a little more money**(from 23 €** in Hellotickets) you can take a river cruise with free stops to get on and off anywhere along the route as if it were one of the tourist buses of the city.

How much budget do I need for the most premium Thames cruises?

Whether you want to treat yourself during your stay in London or if you are traveling with your partner and want to surprise her with a romantic plan, from 40 ¤ you can get in Hellotickets a ticket for one of the premium Thames cruises that usually include the boat ride and a snack or dinner with entertainment on board .

Within the premium cruises on the Thames there are also different price ranges depending on the type of activities that are performed on the tour.

For example, "afternoon tea" cruises (the classic English afternoon tea) are less expensive than those multi-course dinner cruises where there are also live music performances and smart-casual etiquette is required to attend.

Book a Thames cruise

Can I take a Thames cruise with a tourist card? How much does it cost?

That's right! For example from 74 ¤ you can get the London Pass in Hellotickets , which will allow you to make a cruise on the river Thames with a 1 day River Roamer pass. That is, you can enjoy a cruise with free stops on the River Thames.

This way, you can embark at any of the piers available along the river to make the boat cruise in full or to move between the different tourist attractions that are in the surroundings, getting on and off at the stop you want to explore each site on your own.

In the case of the London Pass you pay for days of use. It is an option that I recommend you to consider if you plan to see many different places during your getaway because these tourist cards will help you save time and money. If you are interested in this tourist card and you would like to buy it, in the post The best London tourist card you have a detailed analysis to see everything you can do with it.

Book the London Tourist Card

Can I buy tickets for the Thames river cruise at the ticket office? How much are they worth there?

Yes, it is possible to buy tickets to ride a Thames river cruise at the ticket offices you will find at the piers. However, I recommend you to buy tickets online to avoid the queues that form there and to do it well in advance, as it is one of the most popular activities among tourists going to London and tickets can sell out quickly.

The price varies depending on the cruise operator, the length of the route and whether or not it is a one-way ticket but you can find options starting at €13 for adults over 16. Children between the ages of 5 and 15 pay less and tickets start from €8.

Book a cruise on the Thames

Can I take a free Thames cruise and how can I save?

No, it is not possible to take a free Thames cruise. However, when buying your tickets to enjoy this experience there are ways to save money.

With a tourist card

One way to save money is to buy a London Tourist Card, specifically the London Pass**(from 74 €** at Hellotickets) which will allow you to visit more than 80 attractions in the city in addition to taking a river cruise.

With a combined ticket to several attractions

Another is to buy a combined ticket to two tourist attractions on the river bank. The most popular option is the cruise on the Thames and the London Eye.

From 15 € you can book an adult ticket on the website of the London Eye but if you pay a little more, from 22 € , you can get a ticket with priority seating in the first row of the boat to have unobstructed views of the river landscape.

If you want to know more about this option, I recommend you to read the post London Eye and Thames cruise: the perfect combination on your trip to London .

With the Oyster Card

If to move around London using public transport you have taken the Oyster Card (a rechargeable wallet card that lowers the price of the single ticket) you are in luck because you can ride with it on the River Bus , the boat operated by the company Uber Boat by Thames Clippers that allows you to move from one side of the city to another by water instead of by road with the bus or underground with the subway.

If you want to take a short cruise on the Thames without spending a lot of money, just for the pleasure of boating, using the Oyster Card is a good way to fulfill your wish while saving a little money, as you won't need to buy a general admission ticket to get on board.

How much does it cost to get to the Thames cruise pier?

In my opinion, the subway is the fastest means of transport to move as a tourist between the attractions of London and to take it you can buy a single ticket from 6 € depending on the area of the city where you move.

Before riding, I recommend you to check the fare on the London Transport website by entering the departure station and destination to calculate the approximate cost of the ticket.

If you are getting on the Thames cruise at Westminster Pier or London Eye Pier you can get off at Westminster tube station , the closest station to both places.

To save a little money when using public transport, which is not exactly cheap, I advise you to get a ticket for the London sightseeing bus (which will allow you to move around the city while enjoying the sights of the cityscape) or get one of the Travelcard or Oyster Card .

  • Capture the golden hour: For stunning worthy for the ‘gram photos, go for sunset cruises, when the sky explodes with vibrant colors.
