Reviews ON OUR Northern Europe CRUISES

background1

" We love MSC...first experience earlier this year visiting Norway, then again for Estonia, Russia and Finland... "

Lance Cameron F., Cruising the Northern Europe

NORTHERN EUROPE CRUISES AND CRUISES FROM UK

Where does a baltic cruise go, what do you wear on a northern european cruise, what is the best time of year to cruise northern europe, what is the weather in the baltic sea, what countries are part of a northern europe cruise, how long is a northern europe cruise.

A Northern Europe cruise can be as long or as short as you want. We have options from 1, 2 or 3 nights to 7, 9, 11 nights or more . For some cruises, such as the Norwegian fjord or Baltic Sea cruises , you will need to choose dates that are available within the months when we go to those areas. If, however, you were thinking more along the lines of a cruise that stopped in France, the Netherlands or the UK, you will have more room to choose, since we have cruises that go there even in some winter months. Once your dates are set, you can join us for however long you would like, at MSC Cruises we are flexible. You can climb aboard at any moment, either for a long summer holiday with your family, for a short while with friends, or for a romantic getaway with your partner. Tailor your trip with MSC Cruises and enjoy the best the Baltic Sea, the North Atlantic or the Norwegian fjords, visiting countries such as Sweden, Finland, Iceland or Greenland, and discover all they have to offer this summer, you won’t be disappointed!

Northern Europe Cruises

MSC is one of the world's largest and fastest growing cruise lines, operating some of the newest vessels at sea. Their ships are tastefully decorated with exquisite Italian marble and fine wood accents. Guests will find plenty of amenities, including magnificently decorated lounges and showrooms, grand casinos and nonsmoking dining rooms.

MSC specializes in Mediterranean itineraries which showcase its familiarity with the region, both on and off the ship. Transatlantic voyages are also offered, as are itineraries to Northern Europe, the Caribbean, South Africa and South America.

Onboard guests will find a primarily European ambiance and clientele, and cuisine designed for European palettes. To accommodate international clients, announcements are made in four languages. The staff service philosophy is more reserved than what guests might find onboard a North America cruise line, and on European itineraries, restaurants follow the European custom of serving dinner later in the evening.

Keep in mind that the currency used onboard MSC ships can vary by itinerary. Typically the onboard currency in the Mediterranean is the euro. Please confirm the onboard currency with your Vacations To Go cruise counselor at the time of booking.

NORTHERN EUROPE CRUISES

The charm of the great north.

Climb aboard one of our MSC Northern Europe cruises and discover the wonders that can be found in the  British Isles ,  Scandinavian  coastlines or the  Baltic states  and experience Europe like never before.

Start your Polar, Scandinavian or Baltic cruise from the British Isles and visit the coastal towns and cities in countries like  Norway ,  Denmark ,  Sweden  or  Iceland . From the bustle of cities like  Copenhagen ,  Tallinn  or  Hamburg , to the quiet beauty of the fjords or the scenic coastal hamlets, a Northern Europe cruise has it all.

The cities in Northern Europe are distinctly different from any other settlements, this is because they perfectly combine the essence of their culture with the modern features of our current times. Scandinavian cruises will take you to locations such as  Stockholm ,  Bergen  or  Oslo . Here in particular you will be able to visit awe-inspiring buildings such as the  Akershus Fortress , or relax with a stroll around  Frogner Park , not to mention the avant-garde building of the Oslo Opera House, located at the harbour.

A Nordic cruise could also take you to Copenhagen, with its famous statue of the Little Mermaid, or Stockholm, home to the Drottningholm palace, a UNESCO-listed building.

If you are also a nature enthusiast, then this is the cruise for you: MSC Baltic cruises will show you the best of the northern coastlines, including the  Norwegian fjords  or rugged north Atlantic islands such as  Svalbard,  or explore further and take an  Arctic cruise  to visit Iceland and Greenland. Whether as a trip with friends, a family holiday or a couple’s getaway, treat yourself to a Baltic or Fjords cruise this 2023, or in 2024 and discover Europe from a new perspective.

NORTHERN EUROPE COUNTRIES

Have you ever dreamed of seeing the  Norwegian fjords ? Are you curious about the volcanic wonders in Iceland? Choose a  Scandinavian cruise  to travel to  Norway ,  Sweden ,  Denmark  or  Iceland , and discover how these countries combine a modern lifestyle with centuries of history and culture. You will be able to learn about it and experience it up close during trips and excursions, either to capital cities such as Oslo, Stockholm or Reykjavik, but also to smaller towns such as Trondheim and Andalsnes in Norway, or Akureyri and Isafjordur in Iceland. No matter where in Norther Europe you’d like to go, we can take you there.

Choose also an  MSC Northern Europe cruise  and discover all the  North Atlantic  has to offer in style: from  France  (La Rochelle) and the  United Kingdom  (Southampton, Belfast or Edinburgh) all the way to  Greenland  (Qaqortoq, Nuuk or Ilulissat), going through the  Baltic Sea  to  Estonia  (Tallin) or  Finland  (Helsinki, Hamina/Kotka), among many others.

Norway Cruises

Baltic cruises, northern europe ports.

MSC offers a wide range of ports of call for your Northern Europe cruise, some are embarkation ports, and others are ports of call, so you can pick the one that best suits you to start from, and then which ones you want to visit during your holiday. Start your journey in the south of Great Britain, with  cruises from Southampton  and enjoy your  MSC Baltic ,  Fjords  or  European Atlantic cruises . We also stop at ports in  Ireland , such as  Cork , or in the  Netherlands , for example in  Rotterdam , where we organise mini cruises as well.

If you would rather begin your adventure elsewhere, there are ports across northern Europe, so you could get started in  France , choosing a cruise from  Le Havre  port, near cities such as  Paris ,  Cherbourg  or  Brest  or in  Netherlands , choosing a cruise from  Ijmuiden  near  Amsterdam . You could also climb aboard your cruise in  Hamburg , or other German ports such as  Kiel  near  Lübeck  or  Warnemünde .

There are many others spread across the Atlantic coastline, such as  Zeebrugge ,  Rotterdam  or  Copenhagen . Choose MSC Cruises, and enjoy an unforgettable experience exploring the north of Europe.

CRUISES FROM SOUTHAMPTON

Historically, the British Isles have always relied heavily on their port cities, and Southampton is a perfect example: it was a centre of activity in the  Stone Age , then continued to be an important port for the  Romans , the  Anglo-Saxons  or the  Normans , all the way to the present. Choose a  cruise from Southampton this 2024 and for 2024  and explore the north of Europe in style with MSC. From Southampton, you will be able to access  London  during your cruise, and we needn’t tell you the wonders of the capital city of the United Kingdom. From Southampton you will also be able to book excursions to  Windsor Castle ; the elegant city of Bath, among the most beautiful places in England to visit, was transformed by the Romans in the first spa resort in England; or Stonehenge, the mysterious  Neolithic stone circle that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Discover the treasures of the  Atlantic , starting with the  British Isles .

COPENHAGEN CRUISE

Begin your MSC Northern Europe cruise in Denmark’s capital city,  Copenhagen . Discover this bustling city known for its picturesque houses, its love for art and culture, and its cuisine. Did you know Copenhagen has Michelin-star restaurants? You can discover it all during your wanderings around the city while the cruise ship is docked there. Take a stroll around the city on your own and enjoy  the sight of the   Øresund strait , or book MSC excursions to see the  Christiansborg Palace , an impressive building at the heart of the city. You can also admire the city from the water with a scenic cruise with MSC; or enjoy the excitement of the Tivoli Gardens, with an amusement park, the perfect place for a family excursion, a day with friends, or your couple. Climb aboard an MSC Baltic cruise at Copenhagen and discover other port cities like  Tallin ,  Stockholm ,  Helsinki  and much more. Treat yourself to an unforgettable holiday.

HAMBURG CRUISE

If there is a famous port in Northern Europe, that is  Hamburg . This port city, located on the banks of the Elbe river, is a bridge between continental Europe and the Scandinavian countries. Begin your MSC cruise in Hamburg and take the opportunity to explore this exciting and bustling German city. Did you know the world’s  largest warehouse district  is in Hamburg? It’s called the  Speicherstadt , and you can visit it through a MSC excursion. Not only can you enjoy its  Neo-Gothic style , but you can also learn more about it in its  museums . The intricate setting of alleys and canals has earned its place as a  UNESCO World Heritage Site ; definitely worth a look. You can also visit the botanical park, St. Michael’s church or the City Hall. There is more to do in Hamburg before you embark on your Norwegian Fjords cruise: another UNESCO World Heritage Site,  Lübeck . This picturesque town, on the Trave river, is known for its Gothic architecture, medieval streets and alleys, the Holstenstor or the largest mechanical organ at St. Mary’s Church. Embark on a new adventure with MSC this summer!

Cruise passenger, 23, fell overboard and vanished after complaining he felt seasick

  • A tourist, 23, fell overboard from the MSC Euribia cruise ship, say reports.
  • The recently-wed student had just texted his wife that he felt seasick.
  • Liam Jones vanished during a seven-day Northern Europe tour cruise

Insider Today

A 23-year-old tourist is presumed dead after falling from the MSC Euribia cruise ship in the North Sea, reports say.

Liam Jones disappeared during a seven-day Northern Europe tour cruise from Southampton to Amsterdam with his family to celebrate his mother's birthday.

The social work student from Scotland was last seen on board by his sister on March 16, shortly after texting his wife, Sophia Mcphee, about feeling seasick, reports said.

Business Insider contacted MSC Cruises for comment outside office hours.

MSC confirmed a passenger went missing during the cruise, prompting an investigation by Hampshire Constabulary upon the ship's return to the UK, per The Telegraph.

Related stories

His wife told the Daily Record," He's just gone. I'm never going to see him again."

"I'm devastated. I have so many questions, and I'm not getting any answers to what's happened," said Mcphee, 20.

McPhee says Jones' sister told her the news. "She said there had been an accident and Liam 'wasn't coming back.' She then said she had seen CCTV and he'd gone overboard."

A spokesperson for MSC Cruises said, "We are deeply saddened by this news, and our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time," per The Telegraph.

The chances of you falling overboard off a cruise ship are extremely low .

In 2023, at least 10 people fell off a major cruise line ship, turning dream vacations into disaster situations — and only two survived the fall into the ocean.

The MSC Euribia can accommodate 6,327 passengers and has a wide range of bars and restaurants, five swimming pools, a wellness spa, a theater, a casino, and a very extensive children's club.

The price of the seven-night Nothern Europe tour on the MSC Euribia start at $950 per person, according to MSC's website .

Cruise ship carrying 1,500 passengers stuck in Spain port due to Bolivian passengers’ visa problems

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — A cruise ship reportedly carrying 1,500 passengers was stuck Wednesday in the Spanish northeastern port of Barcelona due to the visa problems of a group of Bolivian passengers who were due to disembark there, officials said.

Authorities say 69 Bolivians were not being allowed to leave the ship because they lacked valid documents to enter the European border-free Schengen area. Solange Duarte, a Bolivian diplomat in Barcelona, told The Associated Press she received reports some of the stranded Bolivians had been duped into obtaining fake visas but had no further information.

“We have asked the families to indicate who has processed this visa and we have not gotten answers,” she said, adding she heard it was possible the Bolivians would be transferred to a different ship.

Spain’s national police was looking into the possibility of a fake visa scam, Duarte said.

Spanish state news agency Efe and other media said some 1,500 passengers were on board the MSC Armony hoping to continue the cruise to Croatia.

Bolivia’s deputy foreign affairs minister, Fernando Pérez, said the country was waiting “to see what the Spanish authorities decide what to do.”

A statement from the Bolivian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said the Bolivian Embassy in Spain and the country’s Consulate General in Barcelona “are carrying out the pertinent steps to address this case,” coordinating with Spanish authorities, as well as with the MSC Cruises Company.

MSC Cruises said in a statement the Bolivians included families and children.

It said the “passengers appeared to have proper documentation upon boarding in Brazil. We have been informed by the authorities that the visas are not valid for entry into the Schengen area. As a result, passengers have not been able to disembark in Barcelona, which was their final destination.”

The company said the ship remained in port while it works with authorities to facilitate the process.

The Schengen area is an ID-check-free travel zone comprising 29 European countries, most from the European Union.

This story was corrected to show that the Schengen zone is a European rather than European Union creation and comprises 29 countries.

Cruise ship carrying 1,500 passengers stuck in Spain port after document row

A cruise ship reportedly carrying 1,500 passengers was left stuck in the Spanish northeastern port of Barcelona due to the visa problems of a group of Bolivian passengers who were due to disembark, officials said on Wednesday.

Authorities say 69 Bolivians are not being allowed to leave the ship because they lack valid documents to enter the European Union ’s border-free Schengen area.

Spanish government officials in the city said they are in contact with Bolivian authorities and the MSC Cruises Company to resolve the situation. The ship had sailed from Brazil to cover a route in the Mediterranean Sea .

Spanish state news agency Efe and other media said that some 1,500 passengers were meanwhile on board the MSC Armony hoping to continue the cruise to Croatia .

The Schengen area is an ID-check-free travel zone comprising some 30 European Union countries.

Earlier this week it was confirmed two countries have partially joined Europe ’s ID-check-free travel zone, marking a new step in the two countries’ integration with the European Union .

After years of negotiations by Romania and Bulgaria to join the Schengen area, there is now free access for travelers arriving by air or sea. Land border checks will remain in place, however, due to opposition primarily from Austria , which has long blocked their bid over illegal migration concerns.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen hailed the change as a “huge success for both countries” and a “historic moment” for what is the world’s largest free travel zone.

Refuelling underway at Russia’s floating NPP

!{Model.Description}

northern europe cruises msc

The fresh fuel cassettes were delivered to Pevek by in special shipping containers along the Northern Sea Route in October by Rosatom’s fuel company TVEL and were immediately transferred aboard the FNPP. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov, is the Mashinostroitelny Zavod (MSZ - part of TVEL) in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The loading of fresh fuel cassettes is being carried out into the reactor on the starboard side of the FNPP. Refuelling of the second reactor is planned for 2024. “When carrying out work to transship the nuclear fuel, all necessary measures were taken to meet radiation safety requirements,” said Alexey Fedotov, chief engineer at PATEC. “Before loading them into the reactor, each of the 121 fuel assemblies passed strict acceptance control. After a thorough check by specialists, all assemblies are sequentially placed in the reactor using automated crane equipment.” The reloading operation is planned to be completed before the end of this year. Maxim Shamambaev, the head of nuclear safety for the FNPP, said the radiation background in the region did not change during the work and remained at the natural background level for Pevek.

The installation of the FNPP in Chukotka aimed to solve two key problems. First it was to replace the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which began operating in1974, as well as the Chaunskaya thermal power plant, which is already more than 70 years old. Second, it was to supply energy to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka - a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimskaya ore zone.

By the end of 2023, power generation to Pevek from the FNPP since it began operation in 2020 will total 200 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000.
