Ken's Tours Lower Antelope Canyon

Ken's tours lower antelope canyon information.

Ken’s Tours offer tours designed to give a personal experience inside of Lower Antelope. One of our guides will guide you, share our history and stories. Over the years, Lower Antelope Canyon has become a favorite gathering place for photographers, tourists, and visitors from around the world.

The views in Lower Antelope Canyon change constantly as the sun moves across the sky, filtering lights softly across the stone walls. These ever-moving sun angles bounce light back and forth across the narrow canyon’s walls, creating a dazzling display of color, light, and shadow.

The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdeztwazi or “Spiral Rock Arches.” Many years ago, herds of Pronghorn Antelope roamed freely in and around the canyon, which explains the English name. This incredible canyon has been created over millions of years by the relentless forces of water and wind, slowly carving and sculpting the sandstone into forms, textures, and shapes which we observe today.

Ken’s Tours include general tours, photo tours and deluxe tours.

Antelope Canyon: Is it worth it?

Is Antelope Canyon worth the money? Chances are you’ve seen pictures of Lower Antelope Canyon on Instagram without knowing exactly what it is or where is it.

That’s how I found out about it and a quick look on a map showed it wasn’t too far away from Zion National Park in Utah. It looked incredible, completely unlike anything I’d ever seen before and so we headed over the state border to Arizona so we could visit.

Antelope Canyon Tour

Antelope Canyon Tour

  • Admission to Guided Tour of Lower Antelope Canyon
  • Navajo Nation Permit Fee of $8/person
  • Group size is limited to 15 people for a more personal experience

I’d read that Antelope Canyon gets pretty busy but that if you do the lower Antelope Canyon tours, rather than the upper Antelope Canyon tours, it should be better.

That was not our experience at all.

You could barely move a couple of inches without walking into someone and the guides hurried you along before you’d had much chance to get pictures. It’s up there with the most expensive things we did on our trip (others include fancy dinners in New York & a night in a hotel in Vegas ) and you couldn’t even stay as long as you wanted.

With that in mind, is Antelope Canyon, Arizona worth it?

What is Antelope Canyon?

Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon. This basically just means it’s a really thin canyon. The gap at the top (the slot) lets beams of light shine down into the canyon and, if you’re there at the right time, you can see the individual beams.

There are actually two separate slot canyons – the Upper Antelope Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon. You can visit both of them, but to do so you need to book two separate tours with different companies.

The canyons were formed by rainwater and, more specifically, flash floods. It’s still a dangerous area for flash flooding now and the tour companies keep a close eye on the Antelope Canyon weather to make sure you’re as safe as possible.

Where is Antelope Canyon?

Antelope Canyon is just outside of Page in Arizona. It’s also close to Horseshoe Ben which is another popular attraction in the area.

You can book a tour of both Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon here.

How to visit Antelope Canyon

If you’re planning an Antelope Canyon tour, here is everything you need to know about how to visit this incredible slot canyon in Arizona.

lower antelope canyon tours

Can you go to Antelope Canyon on your own?

No. You cannot go to Antelope Canyon on your own. The land that Antelope Canyon is on is owned by the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona.

You’ll get into big trouble if you try and access the canyons on your own. You have to go with a tour guide.

All the tours for Antelope Canyon are fairly similar so it’s hard to say which is the best Antelope Canyon tour but here’s some more information.

Ken’s tours or Dixie’s for Antelope Canyon tours?

There are several tour companies available for both Upper Antelope Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon but they’re basically all the same. In fact, they’re even run by the same families so it doesn’t really matter which one you pick.

We went with Ken’s tours in Antelope Canyon for our trip to Lower Antelope Canyon. But Dixie Ellis’s tours did the exact same thing as us at the exact same time.

The only difference between Dixie’s lower antelope canyon tours to Ken’s tours of Lower Antelope Canyon seemed to be that their tour guides wore different color t-shirts. And Dixie Ellis tour groups queued on the right-hand side before going down to the canyon, whereas Ken’s customers queued on the left.

So when it comes to picking your lower antelope canyon Dixie or Ken, there’s really not any difference.

Lower Antelope Canyon Tour Review

lower antelope canyon tours

We took the standard Lower Antelope Canyon tour with Ken’s Tours. These lower Antelope Canyon tickets now cost a lot more than when we were there. The cost of a Lower Antelope Canyon tour starts at US$89 and Upper Antelope Canyon tickets can be purchased for

To our surprise, we were able to get on the next available tour slot when we turned up. I’d read that tours can be fully booked days in advance.

Antelope Canyon Navajo tours tour size

It didn’t really seem that they had a limit to the tour size. The time slot we were on was then split further into 4 separate groups of about 10 people.

We were then walked over to the entrance of Lower Antelope Canyon. Here we had to wait in excess of half an hour before we could actually enter the canyon itself. Ken’s tours lined up on one side whilst Dixie Ellis lined up on the other. Every 10 minutes or so we’d move a little bit closer to the stairs that take you into the canyon.

We could see into the canyon from the top of the stairs and it was absolutely packed. You could barely see the floor or a gap in the people.

Information given

Our tour guide didn’t seem very forthcoming with information about the canyon. So what I know about the canyon came from overhearing other tour guides and looking on Wikipedia for this blog post.

In the canyon

lower antelope canyon tours

When we finally climbed down the stairs into the canyon we had tour guides telling us to move further into the canyon.  This was something physically impossible due to the number of people down there.

During one particularly narrow section where we had a few moments to ourselves to take some photos you could hear the tour guide shouting “Move along, this bit isn’t very interesting”.

Still, the canyon was spectacular. The colors are incredible and really as orange and purple-y as you’ve seen in the pictures.

Despite the number of people down there and the constant shepherding from tour guides telling you to hurry up as you progress through the canyon, I still thoroughly enjoyed seeing Lower Antelope Canyon.

Photography tours of Lower Antelope Canyon

lower antelope canyon tours

The only people that weren’t being told to hurry up and move on were those who had paid extra to take the Antelope Canyon photo tour.

On the Antelope Canyon photography tour, you’re allowed to take tripods and spend more time getting pictures.

But don’t think you get the canyon to yourself. Every 5 minutes or so you’ll have to wait as yet another tour group tramples through your shot.

You can still get great pictures without paying the extra as it’s an extremely photogenic place.

So, is Lower Antelope Canyon worth it?

When it comes to ‘Is Antelope Canyon worth it’? I still think it would be very hard to be disappointed by Antelope Canyon. It’s gorgeous and definitely pretty special.

However, I think you could pretty easily find other similar canyons without having to pay almost $100 and deal with huge crowds of people. If I’d known a bit more about the area I probably would have headed to another slot canyon.

Antelope Canyon upper vs lower antelope canyon

antelope canyon arizona review

One of the biggest questions I and others have is whether to do an upper or lower antelope canyon tour.

Both the upper canyon and lower canyon are very similar once you’re inside. They are both the same age and were created the same way. You need a tour guide from the Navajo Reservation for both.

Upper Antelope Canyon differs in the sense that the tour begins with a ride on a 4×4 truck to the entrance of the canyon.

One of the main differences between Lower and Upper Antelope Canyon in terms of what you’ll see is that the Upper Antelope Canyon is well known for its light beams.

These beams are loved by photographers and while you may experience them a little in the Lower Antelope Canyon they tend to be better in the Upper Canyon .

The light beams in Upper Antelope Canyon are more reliable around midday on clear days.

Alternatives to Lower Antelope Canyon

Arizona and Utah are full of beautiful scenery and there are plenty of alternative slot canyons to visit too. Here are a few suggestions for an alternative slot canyon in Arizona.

If you do visit make sure to check the weather and avoid the slot canyons if rain is forecast – you don’t want to end up in a flash flood!

  • Peek-a-boo & Spooky Gulch
  • Singing Canyon on The Burr Trail
  • Buckskin Gulch: the longest and deepest slot canyon in the Southwest
  • East Fork of Upper Kaibito Creek
  • Starting Water Wash
  • Butterfly Canyon
  • Water Holes Canyon

Best time to visit Antelope Canyon

The best time of year to visit Antelope Canyon is anytime that counts as the off-season. Mainly because the crowds will be a little less but also because it’s a bit cooler.

The tourist season in Page, Arizona tends to be from mid-May to September. I visited in early May and it was still super busy then though. Given this, the best time to visit lower antelope canyon is April or October when the weather isn’t too different, but there should be fewer crowds.

Many people visit Antelope Canyon in December and January. While it is colder and there’s less chance of seeing the sunbeams, you’ll still get fantastic views inside the canyon.

The time of year and day you visit also depends on whether you’re likely to see light beams or not. 10 am-12 pm is usually the best time slot for light beams and summer is great for them too since the sun has to be high in the sky. But summer is the busiest…

The best months are probably late March/early April or late September/early October, especially when you visit mid-week, for both light beams and fewer people.

Where to buy Antelope Canyon tickets

You can buy tickets in advance, online, or once you get there. We used Ken’s Antelope slot canyon tours which you can book online. I’d recommend making an Antelope Canyon reservation.

Antelope Canyon X

With the popularity of Lower Antelope Canyon and Upper Antelope Canyon, a new canyon tour has arrived on the scene: Antelope Canyon X .

These tours are run by Taadidiin Tours which is also in the Navajo Nation. The tickets do not include the $8 fee as part of your admission for Antelope Canyon X, bringing the total cost of Antelope Canyon X to about $70.

Antelope Canyon X is nearby to the normal Antelope Canyon but there are a few key differences.

First, Canyon X is cheaper which is welcome when you consider the increased prices of the usual Antelope Canyon.

Note: Prices for Canyon X seem to be increasing so it’s no longer that much cheaper than Lower Antelope Canyon.

Plus, you do not have to climb down steep ladders as you do for the Lower Antelope Canyon tour. Canyon X is arguably equally as impressive as Antelope Canyon, it’s just lesser known which means it’s also less busy.

A major advantage of a Canyon X tour is that you should feel less rushed than I did on the Lower Antelope Canyon tour.

A downside to Canyon X is that you will not get the light beams that you can see in the non-x canyons. This is mostly because Antelope Canyon X is much deeper than Lower and Upper Antelope Canyon and so the light doesn’t penetrate through the slot canyon in quite the same way.

Plus, for Canyon X you won’t journey through the canyon in quite the same way. You walk part way through and then go back the same way, through an open river wash before going to a second part of the canyon and going out and back again.

For Lower and Upper Antelope Canyon you’ll take a journey through the canyon finishing in a different spot to where you started.

Still, if you have limited mobility or kids, this might be a better option since there are no steep ladders. You can get your tickets here.

Unmissable Slot Canyon

You are accompanied into the canyon by a navajo guide who goes to great efforts to assist his group through the canyon. in addition the guide happily helps all his group members by showing the best photographic locations in the canyon and, if you want him to, will actually take the pictures with your own ‘phone. initially, you enter the canyon down a series of steep steps and then, at various points you have to ascend short flights of steep stairs. 4dmweb october 16, 2019 -->.

Highly recommended tour operator

Took this tour today and thoroughly enjoyed it. booking a tour was painless as their website is very good. arrangements on location were great and each group was split into smaller groups, each with a separate tour guide. ala was our tour guide and she was just great. she had great advice on camera settings, locations within the canyon to take photos and took time to take photos of people in our group. 4dmweb october 16, 2019 -->, book now for the best affordable tours, latest antelope canyon news.

Had an issue initially, I clicked one date and it confirmed another but I rang up and Louis fixed it for me right away. Thank you!

Good thank you

What an amazing place! We are so glad we were able to go. The tour company is very organized. Our Navajo guide, Malcolm was awesome!

Wonderful trip with Tyrone! He was funny and helped us get terrific pictures. Great guy. We had waited for years to see Antelope Canyon. Well worth it.

Easy handling for the ticket purchase. Thanks

Detailed information is well provided.

I had a great experience with this tour team. They responded my request for 1 person refund, they made it so quickly and smoothly. I really recommend this tour team!.

Great experience, our guide Jerry was great. Most beautiful scenery. A must see

Wonderful experience! It doesn't matter if you go with a large group, you can enjoy every single moment.

It was a long wait because the time slots were backed up from the rain. But it was still worth it!

Great experience

It was amazing

Making a reservation was very easy, and the guidance was well provided. Compared to other sites, the prices were reasonable. I will book a tour through this site again next time.

So far so good…it was easy to understand and we went through the steps to get our reservations in a timely manner. We are excited for our trip in March

Best customer service, quick response on emails.

Tony, our guide, did an awesome job! He is a wizard in photography to help you get some great photos! Great tour, highly recommended.

Our family of 6 loved this tour! Short enough (about 1 hr) to hold our kids attention yet long enough to get the most amazing photos!

Booking our trip was super simple!

Easy to use

We did the Lower Canyon and absolutely loved it. Staff at reception counter was courtesy and our guide had a fun personality and we appreciated his humor, he paid great attention to his group, we appreciated the history he shared with us about the area and canyon. Would recommend this tour group!

Thanks, every thing is perfekt!!

Axing experience! Jerry Sr was definitely a great tour guide!

It was easy, I hope the esperienze will be infine with fare that is quite expensive

It took me a moment to fully navigate the page, but the booking process was easy and transparent, and I didn't feel like I had to worry about fine print

This easily was one of the most indescribably beautiful places I’ve ever visited or experienced. Our guide Ana was amazing and took lots of photos of us, very helpful and informative. Do not miss this—truly amazing and the site of Microsoft screensavers and award winning photographs.

prenotazione facile

We had a really nice experience visiting Lower Canyon. Our guide explained and talked about the canyon, helped us with pictures . Thank you!

Amazing customer service! My husband and I were late because we didn’t take into account the time zone, and without any questions the lady at the ticket box just signed us up for the next one. The guide was a young man, early twenties, and he was extremely nice and had a great personality. Answered any questions and even offered to take pictures for all members of the group. Fantastic and unforgettable experience!!

Great tour and guide

Jimi Vegas was wonderful. He was funny and helpful. The bus should have been little clean. Everything else is fine.

Made it easy for me to book my tours. Very helpful and great with responding quickly to my questions.

We absolutely loved them , it’s just it is an expensive trip . But then it was worth … The people who work absolutely love their job and seems happy with their work . Thanks for the great experience

this is really good!!!

we loved the tour, we had the best guide " BEN" in the whole world, Ben gave us lot of interesting information, he was very patient and i think he was better than all the tour guides. Bocaue one group was behind us and one was front of us, but he was the only one i saw was very friendly and he took our pictures, he set up all of our phone, we were group of 12 ppl, he took every one of our pictures, greeted us in our language. Tour was good but he made it the BEST.

A must see in Page! Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. I would recommend not using the shuttle service, the waiting area is easy to drive to and you won’t have to sit around for long periods of time waiting for your driver.

The lower canyon tour is amazing! If you are able to hike it, I would suggest that one. Our tour guide Keanu was absolutely the best. Malcom also provided so much information. Keanu took the time to take photos for everyone in our group. As a photographer I can tell you, trust him with your phone. You will not be disappointed. The entire staff is polite and seems to be very proud of their natural wonder. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Amazing experience, our tour guide Jonas was fantastic. This trip has been on my bucket list for quite some time. So glad we finally got to see the canyon. Plan ahead as this tour sells out way in advance, and be on time for your scheduled booking. The instructions are very clear about their timeliness policy. This keeps the tours running on schedule for the day.

Great tour and friendly guides, quick 1h15 min tour right from the parking lot. Small Groups of 15 people but be prepared to wait. Canyon is narrow so single file is required. You can't bring bags of any type and good walking shoes are recommended. We went at 12pm in the winter but the sun wouldn't shine all the way down, summer probably better for lighting

The most beautiful place I have ever seen!! All the people were so friendly and our tour guides that we had were outstanding! I cant stop talking about how amazing everything was and everyone ive shown pictures to cant believe they are real. Definitely coming back again in the future!

Easy to book by using alternative tour options available

This was the most amazing experience. Our tour guide was so awesome and full of knowledge. He even showed us how to take some fun pictures and capture some amazing shots. Highly recommend booking with them!

Marvin and Leslie were top notch guides and I had an amazing time at the lower antelope Grand Canyon. I thought the hike was going to be longer and there was more time left but for some reason it was relatively short. The amount of stops and breaks was sufficient and vegetarian food was alright. I enjoyed the movies they played throughout the ride as well as the stories Marvin shared. My group was really great and we made it back to Vegas on time.

Very straightforward booking ( and paying for ) Antelope Canyon trip. Made booking well in advance of chosen date , so had excellent choice of time slot!

Very good experience

This was one of the highlights of our trip. Dena was our guide and she helped us take great photos and to experience the beauty and history of the canyon.

Great booking experience. Will update again after the visit.

Absolutely loved the tour. Our guide Daron was the best. We have such a great time walking through the canyon and listening to his stories about how the canyon formed and all other interesting stuff. He's also a good photographer! The pictures he took of me and my friends were awesome!!! We didn't have any cash with us and were not able to tip him :( i wish they had paypal, Venmo barcodes so people can tip the tour guides. 5 out of 5!!

Good experience overall and prompt booking confirmation!

Super recommended excursion, the guides are friendly and explain the entire route very well

Malcom is one of the best guides I’ve ever met.

Easy to use. Hope there is a wonderful trip later. Thank you!

The booking process was easy, now just anxiously awaiting the trip.

Ben was our guide, and he was very informative and knowledgeable. He advised us on how to take the best pictures and also took great pictures of us at different spots. Definitely recommend this experience!

Jayc was a wonderful guide! She shared a lot of great historical information about the canyon, and was very helpful giving us help with photos.

Very easy to book

Tour guide was amazing. Help with our phones took amazing pictures. She deserves a raise. Very knowledgeable

Lower Antelope Canyon was an amazing experience. Our guide Jacob was awesome and not only told us all the stories of the canyon, but also pointed out the best photo shots and items of interest. He even played the music flute for us in the canyon. Our personal photos look like those on your website, which to capture the same image ourselves was not only fantastic but incredible. It was certainly a highlight of our canyon adventures and one that will always be remembered when back in Australia. Liza & Chris.

This was an experience we have been wanting to do for five years and so glad we finally did. Our driver/guide Rib was amazing. Incredibly informative and patient. Chris at Monument Valley and Muskogee at the canyon were also excellent. Only downside was we were taken unawares at how strenuous the climbing in the lower antelope canyon was. It was worth it, but at times was somewhat frightening. Myako couldn’t have been more helpful and patient.

Stop thinking and BOOK THIS TOUR!! Kyle was our guide and he was AMAZING! He showed us on his phone when the canyon had flooded, provided us with insight about the area and the Navajo, and played the Navajo flute for us. He also gave the best tips about photo taking and showed us the best place to take photos. He’s a genius! There was also a hoop dancer sharing his craft while we waited for the tour to begin. There was also a gift shop/snack bar! Be advised: they have a strict no bag policy; I saw some people arguing this point. It’s really no big deal, just plan ahead.

easy to book and we look forward to our upcoming experience to visit Lower Antelope Canyon later this month!

We had absolutely fabulous time at animal Canyon. Our guide, Eder, was amazing, and showed us how to get the best photos in the canyon. We almost didn’t go here on our two-week road trip, but some friends of ours suggested it and we are so glad we went out of our way to come here. One of the highlights of our trips.

Our guide, Tony, was amazing. He was very informative and gave us lots of information. He took time to help us set our camera settings for the best pictures and he even took pictures of us. All of our pictures turned out amazing. It is definitely worth the trip to see the lower canyon and I just can't say enough good things about our experience it was wonderful.

Our tour guide was amazing good and he made our visit memorable with a lot of knowledge. I guess his name was Robert Bluekake.

Great organization and very nice person!

Beautiful trip and explaination

It was an amazing experience & enjoyed our visit there

This is a long day but I have to give credit to the staff for making it all happen successfully and safely. From the early start to the late finish the staff politely kept us on time so we wouldn't miss our canyon walks while providing complimentary water, energy bars and later a turkey (or veg) sandwich. That said, what really kept me going was the humor and motivational steers from our host so a big thank you to the crew!

Fairly straightforward booking site for tours into Antelope Canyon.

Really, reallye great stuff. Our tourguide has done a good job - he made a lot of photos for us with many tips and tricks for using our phones (Apple &Samsung)

Magnifique visite d’un lieu magique. Organisation parfaite un guide pro et sympa… qui ma?trise la photo sur smartphone !!

We have been in the lower antelope 7:45 tour and it was beautiful. Huge credit to our guide Nate who knows every corner of the Canyon, is really friendly and funny and knows how to take the perfect picture in every single step. If you are doubt, you should definitely book this activity, it will add something special to your trip.

Superbe exp?rience, bon rythme avec le guide et la possibilit? de prendre beaucoup de photos. Guide tr?s sympathique et serviable. Je voyage solo et il a pris une dizaine de photos de moi avec sourire et gentillesse.

I have great time, it's beautful place.

It was an absolutely fantastic tour to see the Upper Antelope Canyon. The guide was very helpful with some great shots along the way. Spectacular.

Beautiful! Guide Amber was AWESOME, and so sweet! She took many pics for us, she knows the great spots for photos. Definitely recommend!

Excellent tour!

Beautiful tour!

Ken is a tour guide. He is very professional, respectful, fun, and well rounded. I will recommend this company because of Ken! Thank you for making this trip a beautiful memory. He took pictures for us, and please show the local tour guide your appreciation by listening to what to do and what not to do while your in there, also giving gratuity to the tour guide since he does such a great job taking your pictures! dont worry about not getting good pictures Ken knows what to do. Recommend!!!

Such a memorable visit. The location - the canyon - lived up to expectations, or actually exceeded them. The tour was world class. Our guide, Ian, was so knowledgeable, friendly and thoughtful. He gave us so much respect for Dixie, and the work culture you maintain. Thank you!

The trip was wonderful

Its was very beautiful and the men of the guide was so good. We enjoy a lot. Thank you.

We had a GREAT experience at the Lower Antelope Canyon!! Our guide Kevin was really nice and explained everything we asked (and by the way, he took the best photos ever!) We highly recommend this tour.

Our guide was amazing

Tour guide was the best !!!!!

Our guide was amazing and the canyon was incredible! It made our Thanksgiving!!

Best experience

The tour is amazing! Garret is an excellent guide is very knowledgeable about the area and how to take the best pictures at the best angles. I feel like I got some professional photos based on his help.

Very easy. Thank’s

Jose was an super Guide, we had a wonderful time there.

As Canadians, we first thought the price was a bit steep but it was on our bucket list so we went ahead and booked. Well, what an amazing experience! Our guide Kayson was knowledgeable, funny and very helpful. He assisted us with our cameras to get the most perfect photos and constantly checked on our safety. I would highly recommend this tour and it was well worth every penny! Thank you!!

It was the most incredible tour we’ve ever been on! Our guide, Kayson, was extremely knowledgeable, humorous and helpful especially with assisting us to capture the best photos! Thank you so much!

A realy good Guide with beautiful pictures and a nice hour of Wow !!!

Fast Respond and can give suggestion from our inquiries

Luckily we booked the tour a couple of days before and managed to get a couple of spots for canyon X. The driver Wayne was great, very entertaining and did his best to ensure we had maximum time at Horseshoe and the Canyon. He gave a lot of interesting facts about vegas, places on the way and the canyons. He was very honest, friendly and funny. We also had an amazing guide at canyon X (Marco). He was patient with us, never rushed us and most importantly, he helped us get amazing pics that looked like a professional photographer took them. He recommended the best spots to take pics and even changed the settings on our phones for the best effects and took them for us at times. I wholeheartedly recommend the tour, it was a fantastic experience and I’m so glad I got to experience and see it in my lifetime. My only comment would be, for the high price and taking into account we only have two very short stop times/rest breaks, food or a lunch should have been included. We left at 5.30am and arrived back at 8pm. In the approx 5hrs on the way there, we only had 1x 20/25mins rest stop to use the bathroom and get food with only one very slow, understaffed, average food option available. There were much better places with more food options we could have stopped at for the break. The 20/25mins stop on the way back was MUCH better, great selection of food choices and a lot more staff around to help.

The trip was great, had a lot of fun. Leo and Marvin were great as well. Would recommend. Make sure you are on time though, they can be strict about it.

customer service staff was extremely friendly and helping explaining the details on the Lower Antelope and Horseshoe bend tour.

I really enjoyed it that was awesome!

That was really amazing experience!!

Excellent service. I loved every moment with them. Thank you so much!

Excellent trip. Outstanding crew. Safe drivers. Good caring like loved ones. Good knowledge sharing by wine(sorry if spelling is wrong). One suggestion: Bus staring point need be given correctly as we are new to that place and nobody knows Belly’s north point. It’s Uber pickup point. Better send the pinned location through SMS

1. Do I need to join a guided tour?

Yes. Lower Antelope Canyon is located on Navajo Nation and is considered a Navajo Park. Tribal law requires that everyone visiting Lower Antelope Canyon must be accompanied by a Tour Guide.

2. What can I bring on tour?

1 Clear – Transparent Bag; Camera; Water Bottle; Cell Phone.

3. What can I NOT bring on tour?

Go Pro; Tripods / Monopod / Selfie Sticks / Stabilizers; Purse / Side purse / Wristlet / Fanny Pack; Bag / Backpack / Draw String bag / Hydration Bag.

4. What is Antelope Canyon's time zone?

Antelope Canyon is located in ARIZONA TIME (Summer time: Same time as Pacific Time; Winter time Same time as Mountain Time. – No Daylight Saving Time – Not Utah Time – Not Navajo Nation Time). All times on confirmations and vouchers are shown in Arizona Time. Because the Utah State Line is less than 7 miles away, cell phone towers from Utah (and the surrounding Navajo Nation) often will be the wrong time. Please manually set your cell phone to Phoenix, AZ time.

5. Are service animals or pets allowed in the canyon?

We are sorry! Due to the wide range of people that go into the canyon we don’t allow any Service animals or Pets to go on tour. We also do not have any leashing area you can leave your pet. Please make arrangements before booking your tour.

6. Do I need to checkin earlier than the tour departure time?

Please arrive 1 hour early from your confirmed tour time to check-in. All groups who have not checked-in at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the tour have forfeited their reservation and those seats will be filled with walk-ups. No refunds will be given in this situation.

7. Is there cell phone coverage in Antelope Canyon Area?

Both Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon areas are in Navajo Reservation and have very limited resources such as: Wifi, cell phone coverage, running water, ATM. In looking for a private guide I contacted via email a Daniel Petrov - he had been recommended by another poster. We wanted the Kremlin. St Basils and the Armoury. He responded that he did not do the Armoury anymore, but did the others. You can google his name and find his website.

I also contacted Captial Tours - they do tours at the Kremlin and also offer private guides. You can also google them.

(If you need addresses, you can private message me.)

I also contacted our hotel concierge and asked for a quote.

We compared prices of the two - Capital and hotel - and decided to go with the hotel recommendation - it seemed more inclusive, etc.

And what recourse would that be? Too bad Dan doesn't tour the Armoury any longer, I wonder why not...he took us there last Summer.

While in St Petersburg we used Elena Ulko from http://www.toursbylocals.com although I think she has started her own company now called Ulko Tours. She, just like Dan, was excellent although quite a bit more expensive.

Recourse?? I believe that if a service that gets referrals from a major hotel (or any hotel) does not deliver on said service, there is more leverage that is available to secure a refund of any sort from the service. Whereas, if it is just a general service picked out of the blue, your leverage may be less. It always helps to have someone else on your side in this sort of situation. Just my personal belief. That being said, I am in no way stating that there would be problems with any other service.

In fact, after Dan did contact me, I wrote him back thanking him for his reply, and he acknowledged that.

Maybe or maybe not...depends on if the hotel recommended the brother or sister of cousin of some higher up person. You really just never know for sure. Anyway, Dan didn't request payment from us until the end of our several days together. So we were sure of exactly what we paid for before we paid :-) Good luck finding the right match for you.

Same for us - we only prepay once we get there for the admission tickets.

Balance is due at end.

Hi, I posted earlier and thought you may want to read it. Feel free to contact us. My husband and I used Andrey Panin with Moscowweekend.ru We booked our air and land thru Gate 1 and stayed at Izmaylova Vega hotel. Which was a good location, great buffet breakfast and a great value for the money, located next to largest outdoor flea market, near a mall, and metro. We where pleasantly suprised. Andrey was a fantastic guide, extremely affordable , punctual and knowledgable. I suggested his services for another blogger and after we exchanged pictures. He charged us $100 US ,per day and was waiting at the hotel lobby upon our arrival and every morning there after. His english is excellent his mother was an english teacher. He got us great tickets to the Bolshoi, if u are good with Russian they seem to sell them in the train station, we saw them but our Russian is null. He drove us thru the Golden Ring. It was an adventure of a lifetime. You will have an amazing trip. Enjoy!! He is a gem of a find!! We really lucked out
