Harry Reid International Airport is the only major commercial airport serving Las Vegas. It’s an incredibly busy airport, filled with people vacationing and hoping to win big on the Las Vegas Strip, as well as business travelers attending major conferences at one of the many large hotels.
Despite all the traffic in and out of Harry Reid International Airport, it’s not very transit-friendly to get to downtown Las Vegas or the Strip.
Taxis will cost you between $22 and $30 , depending on which hotel you’re heading to on the Strip. The Strip is divided into certain fare zones, so the price depends on how far up the Strip your hotel is.
At Terminal 1, taxis are outside doors 1 to 4 on the baggage claim level, and at Terminal 3, taxis are outside door 53.
It’s customary to tip your driver, which can add to the cost, and there may be traffic along the Strip (which is not unusual) that may also add to the fare.
Uber and Lyft are located in the Terminal 1 parking garage on the second level. This is a massive ride-share pickup area, so you’ll find lots of people waiting for their rides. There are also tons of designated spaces that your driver can pull into.
Getting to many Strip hotels will still cost you about $23, even for such a short ride. Taking a ride-share is the most convenient and economical way to get to your hotel since it will drop you off right at the entrance, and you don’t have to worry about any transfers.
Harry Reid International Airport is known for people who try to scam unsuspecting ride-share customers. Many drivers will try to personally solicit you to take rides with them, even claiming that they are official ride-share vehicles or taxis. Do not approach these drivers, and instead, wait for your specifically marked ride-share vehicle displayed in your app. Only approach that specific vehicle and check the license plate before you make contact.
Harry Reid International Airport has a number of companies offering shuttle services from the airport to area hotels.
These depart from outside doors 7 to 13 in Terminal 1 or Level Zero on the west end at Terminal 3. For $30, you can secure round-trip van service from the airport to your hotel and then back when needed. The vans are shared, so you’ll be paired with other passengers, though most transport companies will try to put you with guests going to the same hotel as you to limit the number of stops.
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (or RTC for short) operates Bus 109 from the airport to the Southern Strip Transit Terminal. You can pick up the bus at the ground level of Terminals 1 and 3, and buses arrive approximately every 30 minutes , even overnight.
Tickets can be purchased on a mobile app or kiosk; it is $4 to go from the airport to the Southern Strip Transit Terminal . Remember, once you get to that southern terminal, you’ll still need to transfer onto another bus to take you up and down the Strip, making it a highly inconvenient option, especially with luggage. The bus is certainly economical but will make numerous stops along the way, and you need to transfer, making it one of the least desirable options to get from the airport to the Strip.
Many passengers arriving into Las Vegas use private hired cars to get to their hotels. Many gamblers do this for discretion, and you’ll find many celebrities doing it as well.
Here are typical transportation prices from the airport to Strip hotels, all on a round-trip basis:
- $140 for a Tesla
- $150 for a luxury SUV
- $160 for a small limousine
- $170 for a stretch limousine
- $180 for a super stretch limousine
- $180 for a 24-passenger bus
- $190 for a stretch SUV
Each option requires additional tax and may have added fees on top of gratuity.
Harry Reid International Airport is hugely popular for both tourists and business travelers alike. Oddly enough, there’s not actually great public transit to the Strip and surrounding hotels, so you will likely rely on expensive ride-share vehicles and taxis to get you where you’re going. A taxi or ride-share will be your most convenient option by far, and it’ll save you from transferring on the public transit bus or having to make multiple stops on a shuttle.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is easiest way to get from las vegas airport to the strip.
Utilizing a ride-share vehicle or taxi is the best way to get from the airport to hotels along the Strip.
Are there free shuttles from Las Vegas Airport to the Strip?
Not really. While there are some companies that offer free shuttles from specific hotels, there isn’t a consistent, widespread free shuttle option. Most hotels along the Strip do not have a free shuttle.
What is the cheapest way to get from Las Vegas Airport to the Strip?
Utilizing the local public transit bus is the absolute cheapest method, but you need to connect at a station south of the Strip, making it very inconvenient, especially if you have multiple bags. Taking into account cost and convenience, a taxi or ride-share vehicle will be your best bet.
How do you get around the Strip without a car in Las Vegas?
There are plenty of taxies and ride-share vehicles departing the airport for the Strip, so it is generally very easy to find an available vehicle to hire.

Harry Reid airport arrivals delayed by wind, runway maintenance
Travelers were being urged to give themselves more time to get to the airport and to also check their flight status.
The combination of windy weather and the scheduled maintenance of a runway caused delays of arriving flights into Harry Reid International Airport on Thursday, an airport spokesperson said.
“The best thing is for people to check their flight status,” said Joe Rajchel, the spokesperson for the airport.
Plus, a fatal crash this morning on the airport connector road also caused traffic delays around the airport, Rajchel said.
Rajchel urged travelers to give themselves more time to get to the airport and to check their flight status with their airline.
Arriving flights were delayed, he said, because one of the airport’s runways was undergoing scheduled maintenance of its pavement surface. That maintenance, combined with the wind, meant that flights were able to only to arrive and land in a certain direction, which meant that runway was out of commission, Rajchel said.
It wasn’t clear how long the delays would be in effect because that depends on the weather, Rajchel said.

Busiest year ever for Las Vegas airport, but where does it rank worldwide?
L AS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Harry Reid International Airport was ranked as the fifth-busiest airport in the world in 2023, according to a new survey released by Airports Council International (ACI).
That is, if we’re talking about takeoffs and landings. The ACI report, released on Monday in Montreal, provided a variety of rankings: aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), passengers, international passengers and cargo.
In terms of total passengers, Las Vegas was ranked No. 12 in the world. And that’s the stat that’s generally accepted in ordering the busiest airports.
So how is it that Las Vegas is so much higher on the list of takeoffs and landings? The reason is fairly simple. Recall what happened the week the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix lit up the Strip. There were reports that airplane parking was maxed out. Social media posts by jet-setters complained that their pilots had to drop them off and then fly elsewhere to park.
Joe Rajchel, Public Information Administrator at Reid Airport and the Clark County Department of Aviation, said Las Vegas is unique because of the variety of operations. In 2023, Las Vegas climbed from No. 8 to No. 5, with 611,806 takeoffs and landings. That’s a 5.3% increase over 2022, and a 10.6% increase compared to 2019, the last full year before the pandemic.
And F1 isn’t the only attraction that brings private planes to Las Vegas.
Add to that: Helicopter tour operators working on the west side of the airport provide a steady stream of activity.
Those private planes and tour helicopters produce a lot of takeoffs and landings, but they don’t add as much to the passenger counts. We reached out to Signature Aviation and Atlantic Aviation, but neither company has replied to our inquiries.
Harry Reid International Airport established a new high for passenger traffic in 2023 , a record 57.6 million passengers — a 9.4% increase over 2022.
The list of the world’s busiest airports and the number of passengers:
- Atlanta, USA (ATL): 104,653,451
- Dubai, UAE (DXB): 86,994,365
- Dallas/Fort Worth, USA (DFW): 81,755,538
- London, UK (LHR): 79,183,364

- Los Angeles, USA (LAX): 75,050,875
- Chicago, USA (ORD): 73,894,226

Las Vegas came in at No. 12 on the list.

Growing pains: how soon could las vegas build another airport.
The region is in desperate need of a higher-capacity reliever airport.
Las Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is in a rather unique position, and everyone, from passengers to airlines to the city government itself, agrees that a significant upgrade or expansion is necessary. Recently, Clark County's government has launched ambitious initiatives to develop a new airport in the Ivanpah Valley region south of Las Vegas.
This facility is set to be a public-private partnership backed with heavy financial support. It will offer two new runways and a terminal and host commercial, general aviation, and cargo flights. Industry analysts agree that the new facility will bring to the table everything that the Las Vegas area sorely needs, but there are undoubtedly some growing pains waiting in the wings.
For starters, the cost estimates for the new facility range significantly, with some citing $6 billion as a ballpark estimate, while other numbers range up to $14 billion. Furthermore, the facility is not even slated to open until 2037, nearly a decade and a half from now. In this article, we will take a deeper look at the growing pains that Las Vegas' new proposed airport is set to face and when passengers can actually expect the facility to open for commercial service.
A unique destination
Las Vegas, among the most popular tourist destinations worldwide, consistently boasts higher visitor numbers each year, peaking in 2023 at 57.6 million, according to The Review Journal . Despite not being a hub for a single major legacy carrier, the facility stands out as the 20th busiest airport globally in terms of passenger numbers .
The more unique statistic, one which demonstrates just how badly the region needs a new airport or at very least a significant upgrade at LAS, relates to the number of takeoffs and landings. In 2023, there were over 600,000 aircraft movements at the facility, making it the fifth-busiest worldwide and trailing only major hubs like Chicago-O'Hare (ORD) and Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW).
A long-term solution
The Clark County government has identified the Ivanpah Valley south of the city as the ideal location for the development of a new facility. According to the latest plans, this new facility is set to offer two new runways, one of which will be at least 15,000 feet long, and the new terminal will be located along Interstate 15.
Startup Troubles? New Pacific Airlines Cuts Las Vegas Flights
Currently, Las Vegas' airport maintains four different runways, and as a result, two additional ones at the new facility would increase takeoff and landing capacity by 50%. Furthermore, the new airport's longest runway will exceed the length of those at LAS, where the most extensive is 8L/26R which sits at 14,515 feet.
County officials are set to collaborate with the Bureau of Land Management and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on decisions related to the new facility's planning, design, and construction. Furthermore, an environmental review is underway and is set to be completed by June, with concerns over water usage being of primary concern.
Get all the latest aviation news right here on Simple Flying!
Other transportation questions will need to be answered before the facility opens in 2037. Discussions of including a new high-speed rail station along Brightline's proposed Los Angeles-Las Vegas route have been ongoing but have yet to be confirmed.
International passenger travel up 23% at Las Vegas airport
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — International travel figures at Harry Reid International Airport were up 23% in March, according to a report released Thursday morning.
The Las Vegas airport tallied nearly 314,600 international passengers in March, a big jump from March 2023.
Overall, the airport handled over five million arriving and departing passengers last month, an increase of 2% from March 2023.
Last year, Harry Reid International counted a record 57.6 million passengers. Through the first three months of 2024, the facility is on pace to break that record, welcoming over 13.7 million travelers so far this year.

HOW TO WATCH
Las Vegas airport says there’s potential for delays due to one runway closed
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Harry Reid International Airport officials say there have been flight delays in and out of the airport and say there could be more. This is due to the wind and one runway down because of scheduled maintenance.
“This is work that’s only done every 10 to 15 years. But we do need to get it done. We’re seeing more and more air traffic coming into the valley. We had a record number of passengers in 2022 and we’re coming up on a huge year with some very, very big events. So, we want to make sure that this airport is ready for it,” said Harry Reid Airport Spokesperson Christine Crews.
Airport officials say this is all about making airport operations as safe as possible.
The big impact to travelers is when the winds kick up and air traffic controllers switch to different runways. On Monday the airport says there was a ground delay because of winds.
“Typically, we would have our traffic on the east west runways this time of year. But we’re needing to use the north south and we have one of the north south runways down for maintenance. So, it is impacting our ability to keep up with a higher rate of arrivals,” said Crews.
Crews says traffic coming from another airport is impacted most. If planes are delayed and sitting on the ground in Las Vegas, there always isn’t available space for planes coming in.
“The way that delays can be managed into Las Vegas is told hold aircraft at their point of origin. The logic there is, we don’t want to put an aircraft in the sky and have it circling around when there’s not space for it, or the ability for them to land,” said Crews.
But outbound traffic can be affected too if someone is trying to fly out of Harry Reid on one of the planes being held in another city.
The airport says work on the north south runway was scheduled for 30 days and is about three weeks into that work. The airport says once that work is complete, similar work will begin on the second, parallel north south runway. That work is expected to take 30-45 days to complete.

Construction begins on high-speed rail line from Los Angeles to Las Vegas
By Amy Maetzold
Updated on: April 22, 2024 / 8:39 AM PDT / KCAL News
Construction is expected to begin Monday, April 22, on a high-speed rail line connecting Southern California and Las Vegas.
The $12 billion passenger rail line, called Brightline West, will aim to lay 218 miles of new track between a station just south of Las Vegas and another terminal in Rancho Cucamonga.
The rail line will primarily run along Interstate 15 and it will be fully electric, according to Brightline. The trains will be capable of reaching speeds up to 186 or higher, making it a 2 hour trip each way. This would cut the travel time by car, which would normally take over 3 hours.

The project is expected to bolster tourism, create 35,000 jobs, ease traffic on I-15 and cut more than 400,000 tons of carbon pollution each year.
The line will include a flagship station in Las Vegas, with additional stations in Apple Valley, Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga. The Rancho Cucamonga Station will also connect to Southern California's regional Metrolink service, allowing for connectivity into Riverside County, downtown Los Angeles and beyond.
The tentative goal is to have the line open by 2028, in time for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
