Absolutely awesome! Guides were knowledgeable courteous and extremely fun. We got to see vistas that are off the beaten track, learned about history of the island, as well as local culture. Highly recommend and worth every penny.
I booked our ziplining adventure through Hawaii Adventure Center. The customer service was excellent and I would definitely use them again!
The sugar cane tubing is excellent! Clean, professional, and easy for anyone to do. Plenty of staff, Kaili was our guide and comedian for the trip - she was awesome! Would do it again in a heartbeat and recommend them to everyone!!!
Dionne provided wonderful service throughout our entire experience. We had some changes along the way and she was extremely flexible with working with us and providing solutions. Every family traveling to Kauai must do this expedition!! Thank you so much for the superior service and we can’t wait until our next trip!
The tour was amazing. The pilot was wonderful and flew into many of the culverts, canyons, and near the waterfalls. The stop at Manawaiopuna Falls was stunning and the pilot was very helpful at helping us take pictures. He was also very knowledgeable on history of the area and landscape. Well worth it!
Recently used Hawaii Adventure Center to arrange a day excursion with round trip transportation. It was easy, convenient and went very well. They checked in a few times and confirmed all arrangements. We traveled a distance and wasn't very familiar with area. I was very pleased with service and friendliness of everyone we dealt with.

Snorkeling is one of the best ways to experience the Hawaiian Islands and connect with nature! While Hawaii is a stunning destination above water, snorkeling reveals another world lying just beneath the waves. Wildlife lovers can look forward to spotting sea turtles, eels, and colorful fish all while swimming along abundant reef systems and cruising Kauai’s famously stunning coastline.
The Garden Isle is a haven for snorkelers, but finding a good spot to do so on Kauai isn’t as straightforward as other destinations like Maui . You might notice that many snorkeling spots on Kauai can easily be affected by both weather and ocean conditions, especially if you’re hoping to snorkel off the North Shore in winter when most locations are completely off-limits.
From the best tour for families to exhilarating rafting trips and a visit to the “Forbidden Isle”, these are the best snorkeling tours on Kauai!

Best Snorkeling Tours from Kauai’s North Shore
Napali snorkel adventure from hanalei.
The name says it all, this snorkeling tour is an adventure ! You’ll get the chance to drive beneath waterfalls and through sea caves as well as spot playful monk seals and spinner dolphins all while exploring the breathtaking NaPali Coast both above and below the water. This tour leaves from Hanalei Bay and is only suitable for those who are age 4 and up. A light lunch with sandwiches, juice, and water is included, as well as all the snorkeling gear you’ll need!
This tour is onboard the 32’ Cave Catamaran. Guests will need to make sure they can climb a ladder in light surf for boarding and for getting out of the water when it comes time to snorkel. Because this snorkeling tour is more on the adventurous side it’s also not suitable for pregnant women or those who’ve had a recent surgery.
This is a great option if you want to combine a boat trip to see the NaPali Coast and snorkeling. It’s a two-for-one! Keep in mind that this tour only operates from March to October due to Kauai’s intense north shore swell. This is an adventurous snorkeling tour and there’s no bathroom on board the boat. The ride back to Hanalei Bay is nicknamed the “Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride” for a reason! It’s bound to be bumpy.
Best NaPali Coast Snorkeling Tours
Tours that go along Kauai’s NaPali Coast are an adventure! While this is one of the draws of this kind of snorkeling tour, it can be too much for some. Keep in mind that Kauai’s north shore has notoriously strong currents and you’ll need to be a strong swimmer to partake in the fun. It can also be a rough ride to get where you’re going. If you’re prone to seasickness, this is definitely something to keep in mind!
Both the abundance of wildlife, unique snorkeling sites, and stunning views on your way to your final destination are what make snorkeling on Kauai unforgettable.

Ni’ihau and NaPali Super Tour
This snorkeling tour with Holo Holo Charters is really special because it gives you the opportunity to see Hawaii’s “Forbidden Island”, Ni’ihau . You’ll cruise along the verdant cliffs and crags of the NaPali Coast on a huge, 65’ catamaran before stopping just offshore Ni’ihau to snorkel and explore its pristine reefs.
Although you can’t actually step foot on the island itself (they don’t call it the Forbidden Island for nothing), seeing this off-the-beaten-path locale from the water is a truly special experience and something very few visitors get to do. Even better, this company is locally owned and their boats were designed and built on the island!
Departing from Port Allen on Kauai’s leeward side, you certainly won’t go hungry on this tour as both a continental breakfast and a deli-style lunch are provided. Beer and wine are also served after you’re finished with the snorkeling portion of the tour. All your snorkeling gear is included, as well as floating noodles for breaks in between your snorkeling sessions. This is a seven-hour tour that runs year-round and is only suitable for guests who are age 5 and up.
If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, this is it! There’s even a chance to see whales during their migration .
NaPali Snorkel Sail
If there’s a best snorkeling tour on Kauai for families, it might be this one! From a super fun waterslide to an included lunch that makes planning easy as pie, this is another tour with Holo Holo Charters on their beautiful Leila 50’ catamaran. Unlike other snorkeling tours on Kauai, this tour is smooth sailing (mostly) but still has an age limit of 5 and older.
You’ll have five hours to frolic in the sea, sailing along the beautiful NaPali Coast, including 50 full minutes of snorkeling. Both a continental breakfast and a deli-style lunch are served alongside soft drinks and later both beer and wine – the perfect finale to your day on the water.

Makana Catamaran NaPali Coast Tours
Looking for a customized experience without the sky-high cost of a private tour? This is it!
With four different vessels to choose from, Makana Catamaran Tours has options ranging in size from 32-49’. As you might be able to imagine, the tours themselves also vary in size based on how large the boat is. Want a small group? Choose the Makana which can only accommodate up to 12 guests. Looking for a super spacious catamaran with a smooth ride? The NaPali Kai III is perfect for you.
Tours aboard the Amelia K, Makana’s 42’ catamaran, are a bit unique from the rest. These excursions depart from Port Allen (instead of Kikiaola ), have restrooms on board, and its length ranges from 4.5 to 5 hours. This tour tends to be a bit more crowded than the rest, so keep that in mind!
This is one of the very few snorkeling tours that allow those who are pregnant (as long are you are healthy enough to do so)! Be sure to book your tour aboard the NaPali Kai III for this option.
NaPali Coast Rafting Tour
Take off on an exhilarating ride aboard Kauai Z Tours 25’ rigid hull zodiac . You’ll explore sea caves (weather permitting), tons of wildlife, and the stunning NaPali Coast as the backdrop to it all. This tour leaves from the closest harbor to the NaPali Coast itself , making the trip out to your snorkeling destination quick and easy.
Both the Navy and Coast Guard use these zodiacs due to their agility on the water. This kind of tour is an exciting experience and you’ll sit close to the water as you make your way along the coastline. Keep in mind that you’ll be trading luxury and comfort for adventure as there is no shade or bathrooms on this vessel.
This is a fun and exhilarating experience but isn’t for those under 7 or who are pregnant. This cozy tour of up to 14 people is about five hours in length from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. A deli-style lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages are provided.
Best Kauai Snorkeling Tours from Poipu (South Shore)
Kauai z tours – south shore snorkeling.
This 3-hour snorkeling tour off Kauai’s southern coast departs just a few minutes north of downtown Poipu. Its location, along with low time commitment, make this option great if you have a busy schedule without a ton of time to devote to an all-day snorkeling tour. Maneuverability is the name of the game for this excursion as you jet around in a zodiac to reach the snorkeling spot.
The Sheraton Caverns dive site, also known as Honu Hale, is your final destination and one of the best areas off the southern coast to explore underwater. This area is awesome for spotting eels among the rocks, as well as colorful reef fish, but the true star? Sea turtles (honu)! Several other fun spots are included like the Spouting Horn and serene Kipu Kai Cove.
Four different tours depart every day of the week, winter or summer. This tour is only suitable for proficient swimmers and those aged 5 and older. Light snacks and drinks are included.
Kauai Z Tours – Shore snorkeling
Kauai Z Tours also offers a shore snorkeling experience , a wonderful option if you’re prone to seasickness or have little ones in tow. Also leaving from Poipu, this tour includes a dedicated 45-60 minutes of unfettered snorkeling in one of two destinations, depending on the conditions, and is great for both experienced snorkelers and novices.
You might be wondering, why would I pay to go on a shore snorkeling tour when I could probably do it for free? We love shore snorkeling excursions because they’re usually less expensive than a full-blown boat tour but still offer a great experience. This is also a good base and introduction to snorkeling if you’re a beginner. If you want to do a longer or more intensive snorkeling session but need a refresher – this is for you!
This tour is only suitable for children 4 years of age and older.
Kauai Snorkeling Tour FAQs
Which side of kauai is the best for snorkeling.
The best snorkeling on Kauai depends almost entirely on the season. The north shore has some of the most beautiful spots for snorkeling on the island – but it is only safe and accessible in summer. Winter brings difficult snorkeling conditions to Kauai’s north shore. The only place to snorkel during this time is on the leeward side of the island, as waves and currents are far too strong elsewhere. Poipu is your best bet if you’re hoping for a winter snorkeling session on Kauai .
Are snorkeling tours on Kauai worth it?
We used to find ourselves squarely on one side of this debate: snorkeling tours were not worth the money. However, as we’ve done more of them (and gone on great tours), we’ve come to really appreciate that a good snorkeling tour is definitely worth the time and money for a number of reasons:
- You can snorkel in hard-to-access areas: Some tours will take you to spots that are easily accessible from the shore. But others treat you to spots that would be challenging (or impossible) to reach without a boat, like Ni’ihau and Honu Hale.
- Access to a naturalist: You’re there to snorkel and have fun, but there’s also something to be said about actually learning more about Hawaii, the ocean, and sea life while you’re on your tour. The best boats come with fantastic naturalists who can educate you on what you’re seeing and answer your questions.
- A crew dedicated to keeping you safe: Snorkeling is a fun activity but there are times when it isn’t so safe. When you head out on a quality boat tour, you have a crew that is dedicated to making sure their passengers stay out of danger. That means providing you with good gear, having people in the water to help anyone in distress, and making sure to take you to safe places.
- Excellent gear: We own our own snorkeling gear but we almost always leave that at home and use what our tour provides. Why? The quality of the equipment is great, they take away any hassle of cleaning it, and we get to try out new brands.
- Easy and all-inclusive: Beach days require some planning — bringing the gear, finding a spot, and packing enough food and water. A snorkeling tour requires a lot less planning. They take care of the food and drink for you. Just bring your towel and your favorite reef-friendly sunscreen!
- Better reef and environmental protection: Protecting the reef and the sea life in Hawaii is very important. When you travel on a guided snorkeling tour, there is little chance that you’ll find yourself stepping on and damaging coral or violating any of the animal protection laws that are in place.
While there are a lot of benefits of snorkeling with a tour, that’s not to say that you should skip snorkeling from the shore. Still, we think that doing one good, quality snorkeling tour on Kauai is worth it for just about everyone.
What can you expect on a Kauai snorkeling tour?
Each snorkeling tour on Kauai is just a little different from the next. Here’s what you can expect from practically all of them.
- A knowledgeable guide or naturalist. All of Kauai’s snorkeling tours are led by a team who knows Kauai and its snorkeling spots like the back of their hand. Not only will they take you to the very best locations but they’ll also give you tips on how to snorkel, what to look for, wildlife, and safety measures. Some even give a little history or geography lesson along the way and help point out dolphin, seal, and turtle sightings.
- Snorkeling gear. Every tour comes with the necessary gear you’ll need for snorkeling including masks, snorkels, and fins. There’s no need to pack your equipment or go out and buy it! Wetsuits aren’t typically included but Kauai’s water is warm enough to swim in no matter the season.
- Drinks and snacks. Most snorkeling tours on Kauai include drinks, like juice, soft drinks, water, and snacks. Longer tours typically include one to two meals. If you’re hoping for a cocktail or two on your snorkeling excursion, some of them include beer and wine after you’re finished swimming for the day.

7 Breathtaking Kauai Tour Destinations
- December 5, 2022
Kauai is one of the most breathtaking islands in the Pacific. Many people consider it Hawaii’s “Garden Isle” because of its natural beauty.
Kauai tour destinations offer plenty of hiking trails, great food, and local events. Although it is the oldest Hawaiian Island, much of its wilderness remains intact.
Professional chauffeurs explain how to enhance your next vacation with a luxury tour in Kauai . Consider the following information, then book a trip with a local guide.
Poipu Beach
Explore the beautiful white sands of the South Shore’s cherished Poipu Beach. You can get a fresh tan under the sun or dive into the nearby protected swimming area to stay cool.
Surfers love this location for its large waves and stunning views. If you are new to the sport, consider learning the basics on the west side of the beach. There, the waves are usually calmer for beginners.
Poipu Beach also hosts some of Kauai’s best snorkeling adventures and whale-watching spots. Watch the sunset over the ocean at this fantastic beachside destination.
Waimea Canyon
This 3,600-foot deep natural canyon stretches across ten miles of the Kauai landscape. Hikers, birdwatchers, and photographers should all take the time to experience Waimea Canyon during their next trip.
Just make sure you leave before sunset. At night, the fog rolls over hills, making navigating the area difficult.
Waimea Canyon has many nearby attractions and resorts, such as the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. Here, you can eat at local restaurants and enjoy authentic Polynesian music and dance.
Spouting Horn Blowhole and Park Area
The Spouting Horn Blowhole is another famous attraction near the South Shore. A lava shelf under the earth’s surface causes this geyser to regularly shoot water 50 feet into the air. Visitors come from around the world to see this incredible display of nature’s power.
Most locals recommend visiting the area with a tour guide for the best experience. Getting too close to the blowhole can be dangerous.
Princeville
If sitting on the beach isn’t your thing, consider spending a weekend with your significant other at one of the most romantic Kauai tour destinations. Princeville is a gorgeous town home to some of the best Hawaiian coffee shops, boutiques, and cascading waterfalls. Witness towering mountain ranges and emerald-green valleys when visiting.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy fun courses and resorts during their next outing.
Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park
Some of the best tours in Kauai allow visitors access to Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park . This lush green oasis is home to dozens of local plant species and exotic animals. Several graves, temples, and fields sit throughout the park along the Kalalau Trail.
This area is a wonderful place to stretch your legs after a long drive. A professional tour guide will show you famous landmarks during your visit. They will also explain how you can help keep endangered plants and animals safe from environmental disasters.
Hideaway Beach
Do you want to experience the shoreline without strangers crowding you? Hideaway Beach is a secret Kauai destination allowing you to enjoy the ocean privately. You may need to do a little hiking to get to this location, but it is well worth the journey.
During the summer, Hideaway Beach is an excellent place to snorkel. This area has colorful reefs and supports countless species of aquatic life. A professional tour guide will give tips on accessing this majestic spot.
North Shore Caves
Did you know that Kauai has some of the largest cave networks on the Hawaiian Islands? Waikanaloa and Waikapalae Wet Caves are popular spots for explorers of all ages. Witness incredible rock formations and caverns formed after millions of years of natural erosion.
You’ll want to bring a flashlight to navigate these exciting locations.

THE FASCINATING HISTORY
The historic Lihue Plantation ditch and tunnel system that once irrigated vast sugar crops had been unused since sugar was taken out of production in 2000. In January 2003, Kaua’i Backcountry opened a section for exclusive tubing tours. This water system runs through some of the most beautiful and remote lands on the island. It includes spectacular views of the ocean, coastline, mountains, and valleys. The waters that originate near the top of Mount Wai’ale’ale, one of the wettest spots in the world, are channeled through ditches and tunnels hand-dug by plantation workers over a century ago!
If you want to get off the beaten track, don’t miss this exclusive Kaua’i backcountry tubing tour. From start to finish, we take you on an amazing, fun-filled journey that you’re not likely to forget. Our customers tell us time and time again that our tours were the highlight of their vacation and often return for more of our tropical adventures.

TOUR PHOTOS
This was such a fantastic tour that we will probably do it again in the future!
Our tour guide was wonderful. She was full of fun-filled facts about the island, Hawaiian culture and of course, told us about all the movies and movie locations. By the end of the tour, we had learned a lot about not only about movie making on Kauaʻi, but a lot about the island itself. This tour is definitely worth doing.
We planned this tour even before leaving the mainland as we expected it to be the highlight of our trip. It was a fun and relaxing way to see Kauaʻi as we watched film clips that were timed to match the arrival at various points of interest. Now that we are home, we are watching the movies again with our new memories!

We got a day pass for one day to the Marriott owned Royal Sonesta for $75 per person (up). That gave us access to their large and very nice pool, towels, bar/restaurant, regular sun beds and their private beach in a sheltered cove. We booked online at resortpass(dot)com
We thought this was great values, and got the whole poolside experience out of our system.

Glad you had a great time at the Royal Sonesta. Resort Pass seems to be a good way to spend a day at a resort.
We've also done the resort pass at the Royal Sonesta a number of times, especially when the grandkids are with me. I find it a better deal than the Grand Hyatt and I actually prefer the pool at the Royal Sonesta because of it's wide open spaces and size of it. I've found it less expensive than the Hyatt pool pass especially when it comes to renting one of their cabanas for the day. It was large and had sofas, chairs, refrigerator and great cabana service. More comfortable and cheaper than the Hyatt cabanas which were big enough for a couple of chaise lounge chairs and that's about it.

How to Get Around Kauai With and Without a Car
Trying to figure out how to get around kauai i’ll teach you some tips for getting around kauai without a car so you can see if getting a rental car is the right choice for you.
Kauai is such an amazing island that you could very well spend your entire vacation there. You could also choose to split your time between some of the other islands as well.
No matter what you choose, the way you get around the island will depend on what you plan on doing.
In my personal experience, I have found that not all transportation options are the same! That’s why I have compiled a list of the best ways to get around Kauai locally and long-distance!
Popular Kauai Tours/Activities
- Na Pali Coast Snorkeling Tour (this one also goes to the forbidden island of Ni’ihau)
- Kauai Helicopter Tour (this is the BEST way to see waterfalls on Kauai)
- ATV Tour to a Private Waterfall (this is a romantic adventure that feels like a secret getaway)
- Mountain Tubing (this is a low-key adventure down an old sugar cane canal)
- Luau Kalamaku (you can do a little train ride and feed farm animals before the luau)
- Book a Photo Shoot (this is a Hawaii souvenir you’ll treasure forever)
Favorite Kauai Resorts/Hotels
- Grand Hyatt Kauai (this Poipu resort has a luxurious pool area, romantic restaurants, and a stunning ocean view)
- Koloa Landing Resort (this is a luxury resort with an amazing pool area and truly spacious rooms)
- Royal Sonesta Kauai (we LOVE the pool here because it’s the largest one in Hawaii)

The best ways to get around in kauai.
Let’s first take a look at how you can get around if you stay locally!
Walk Around Town
Because the island is so small, it is actually really easy to get around easily by walking in whichever town you stay in!
If you are staying in Poipu , there are many different places you can easily walk to. There are a lot of cool walking paths along the beaches, and shops, food trucks, and restraints are all easily walkable as well!
You can also walk around Princeville and Hanalei on the North Shore. Princeville is more of a resort, and it is easy to get around by bike or walking on the available paths.
Hanalei is also easy to walk around as well, but if you are hoping to head out further from the town, you may want to think about taking the bus or a shuttle.
The East Shore is also a great place for tourists and it is also easy to walk around there as well if you don’t want to use a car.
No matter if you stay in Kapaa , Wailua , or Lihue , getting access to transportation isn’t a challenge, as there are all sorts of things to check out along the streets, and if you don’t want to walk it, you can always take the bus or ride a bike.
Finding transportation won’t be hard if you stay in Lihue, Wailua, or Kapaa. You can also ride bikes or take the bus.
Rent a Bike or Scooter
Tons of great rental shops can get you a bike that will help you get around the city much easier.
If you happen to be in Kapaa, I would highly recommend going on a bike ride along the coast with a rental bike. The bike trails on the beaches are fantastic and it makes for such a cool experience!
The Hele on Kauai is a great place to get a rental bike that you can also book online.
Lihue also has Kauai Mopeds that you can rent out. These can be a bit pricy, but if you rent them for multiple days, most places will give you a discount to help with the price.
It is also important to remember that if you want to ride a moped in Hawaii, you will need a motorcycle license. You only need a driver’s license if you want to ride on a scooter.
Take the Kauai Bus
If you are trying to get around the island on a budget, the bust is always a fantastic option! For just a couple of dollars, you can get almost anywhere you need, which is best for traveling locally in a city.
There are a couple of things to be aware of before taking the bus.
Firstly, the bus is not optimized for tourists, as it is mostly the locals who use the bus to get to and from school and work. So, this isn’t the best option if you must bring a lot of luggage.
Additionally, there is a limit on a bag for each person, and you have to be able to put it on your lap.
You can also only get from Kekaha to Hanalei using the bus, so if you are trying to get to a place like Haena State Park, this isn’t going to be an option.
The Kauai bus schedule online is useful for figuring out how to get around.
Overall, the bus is a budget-friendly and convenient way to get around. Just make sure to respect the locals and plan ahead when you travel!
Car Services and Ride Shares
There are a ton of different car services you can find on the island, ranging from private cars to taxis, to the more traditional ride-share services like Lyft and Uber. However, it can be difficult to get a car because the area is semi-rural.
You will find most of the taxi companies at the airport, and the government regulates the taxi fees, so you don’t have to worry about the taxi company hiking up the price.
Because the island is pretty small, this can be a convenient and affordable way to get around, but be sure to book a taxi in advance because the taxis can get taken up pretty quickly.
There are also luxury service companies like Kauai Luxury Transportation that can make the entire process even more stress-free.
There are also companies such as Execucar that are similar to rideshare apps in that they have their own app to communicate with the driver and figure out where they are.
Lyft and Uber are also great options that most people know how to use. The rates for rideshares are also less than car services and taxis, and it is cool to look at the app and figure out how much it is going to be.
Car Rentals in Kauai
If you want to head around the island at your leisure with the greatest amount of flexibility, getting a car rental on Kauai is going to be the best way to get around.
Despite the ease of use of these cars, congestion of highways has gotten much worse on the island, even to the point where the local DOT is looking into having visitors pay parking fees to stay at public beaches.
However, don’t feel like you can’t use a rental car at all! The best thing that you can do to help is to limit how much you use the vehicle in the first place.
Try planning out your itinerary beforehand, and look for times when you can walk to your location or go on a larger tour that picks you up from where you are staying.
You can also pick a single day where you plan all of your parking and spend the day going out of the town you are in to explore!
Discount Hawaii Car Rental
The best way to obtain a rental car is by using Discount Hawaii Car Rental . They have some of the best rates on a bunch of national companies, so you should definitely check it out. Check out the latest prices and more details.
Kauai Shuttle Service
If you are going to be hanging around your resort, one of the best ways to get around the island is through a shuttle service. There are all sorts of shuttles to fit your needs and the distances you need to go.
Companies such as Speedi Shuttle are even available right by the Lihue Airport’s luggage claim, and it is a great and affordable way to get around.
Additionally, hotels also offer shuttles that can get you to and from the airport for free, so be sure to check it out before you book.
Shuttles are a fantastic way to travel if you don’t want to shell out the cash for a rental car, and there are companies such as Polynesian Adventures that provide a wide range of shuttles on Kauai that can take you sightseeing, or just get you from place to place!
Those who are staying in Poipu should check out the Aloha Spirit Kauai Shuttle , which has different options for you to choose from and even an evening shuttle service that will take you to shops for free!
As I mentioned earlier in the article, if you are planning on checking out Haena State Park , the park has its own shuttles that you can reserve beforehand for a quick trip to the park. Just head to Hanalei’s park and ride; the shuttle will get you to the park in just half an hour!
So, What’s the Best Way to Get Around Kauai?
Kauai is an amazing place with so many beautiful experiences to look into!
If you want to go farther than your city, getting a car rental, car service, or shuttle can get you to where you need to go. And if you are trying to stay on a budget, public transit is also another option that is available to you.
Remember that some places on the island aren’t fully developed, which can make it harder to get to those places specifically.
My personal recommendation for the best way to get around Kauai without a car is by booking shuttles. A shuttle can be a fantastic way to experience so many cool things, and they can sometimes be offered for free by your hotel. Also, you will help to clear up the highways, which is helpful for everyone.
FAQ about Transportation in Kauai
Yes, there are Ubers available all around the island, and you can even book an Uber 30 days in advance to make sure that you have one there and ready for you. However, they aren’t as reliable as the ones on the mainland.
Not only is driving around the island easy, but it also offers some of the best views along the roads with views of the magnificent ocean and stunning beaches that truly make the driving experience incredible!
If you are only going to be traveling to Kauai, having at least 7 to 10 days is going to be enough time for you to check out the beaches, go on some tours, and most importantly, have some time to relax!
How to Get Around Kauai Wrap Up
No matter where you plan to stay on the island, there are a ton of ways to get around that are convenient, stress-free, and most importantly, help you make the most of your vacation!

LIHU‘E — Acting Mayor Reiko Matsuyama signed an emergency proclamation for the County of Kaua‘i on Friday due to the “rain event” or heavy overnight rainfall on Thursday night.
The disaster emergency relief period will continue for 60 days or by a separate proclamation, whichever comes first, the county said in a press release.
An emergency proclamation has also been requested from Hawai‘i Gov. Josh Green.
The purpose of the emergency proclamation is to provide continued relief for disaster damages, losses and suffering, and to protect the health, safety and welfare of Kaua‘i residents and visitors.
Residents are advised to start documenting and taking photos of damages on their property. More information on damage assessments will be announced.
The National Weather Service (NWS) on Friday reported that a strong low pressure system northwest of the state brought a band of heavy rain and thunderstorms across Kaua‘i.
The rain event started with light rain during the day on Thursday, and developed into steady rain and thunderstorms overnight. According to NWS, the most intense period of rain occurred in the 12-hour period between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday.
That resulted in several evacuations in the Wailua and Koloa area, and according to the local radio station, several vehicle rescues due to flooding. A number of roads around the island, including Kuhio Highway near the Hanalei Bridge, were closed due to flooding and landslides.
According to NWS automated rain gauges, totals for the 12-hour period ending at 6 a.m. Friday showed 12.51 inches of rain pelting Kalaheo, the greatest amount of rain falling on Kaua‘i. Lihu‘e Airport reported 11 inches and the gauges at the Princeville Airport showed 5.77 inched.
On the westside of the island, Oma‘o recorded 11.35 inches and Po‘ipu showed 10.59 inches. Port Allen recorded 8.60 inches and Mana gauges showed 4.12 inches.
All schools, public, private, preschools, and the Kaua‘i Community College were closed due to the heavy overnight rainfall. Several planned events were also postponed
Traffic was reduced to a trickle over the Wailua Bridge that suffered damage due to the heavy overnight rainfall. The original bridge was closed and two-way traffic was diverted to Bryan Baptiste Bridge on the makai side of Wailua River.
Rowena Contrades Pangan, of the Ho‘omana Thrift Store, said the shop was gutted by the waters that overflowed Wailua River.
“We had about 7 feet of water coming through,” Pangan said. “We lost everything. Fridays are the days we feed the homeless to a tune of about 150 meals. What are we going to do? The force of the water was so great, it tipped over our walk-in refrigerator. We can’t even cook.”
In Koloa, the Gather Federal Credit Union, Koloa Branch, and several neighboring businesses, including the parked food trucks were closed on Friday because flood waters had entered the businesses.
“The force of the water was strong enough to move our dumpster in the back,” said Justin Ganaden, a Gather FCU vice president. “We should be able to clean this over the weekend, and hopefully, open on Monday. Fortunately, no one was hurt.”
The NWS synopsis on the weather.gov/hawaii website stated another trough will move into the area Saturday night and will linger across the state through early next week.
The trough will bring another round of heavy rain starting over Kaua‘i on Saturday night into Sunday. Flooding will be the main concern as this trough moves through the state, the NWS said.

One dead, 11 others injured after shuttle bus plows into group near Honolulu cruise port
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - One person is dead and 11 others were injured Friday when a shuttle bus driver dropping off passengers near a Honolulu cruise ship terminal hit the gas instead of the brake, pinning several people against concrete barriers, first responders said.
Honolulu EMS said a 68-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and police traffic investigators confirmed she later died. There were four others who were seriously injured: A 67-year-old man, a 67-year-old woman, a 55-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man.
The Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii said the woman who died and the four others who were seriously injured are from Illinois, and that they are being offered assistance.
Additionally, a man in his 70s was taken to the hospital in stable condition while six other adults, ranging in age from their 40s to their 70s, suffered minor injures and declined transport.
Multiple EMS units with paramedics and EMTs responded to the scene at Pier 2 about 10:20 a.m.
Honolulu police said the incident happened in a private parking lot when a 57-year-old driver dropping people off and picking others up was notified that his vehicle was moving forward. He jumped into the driver’s seat to stop it, but pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes.
Florida ER nurse Janet Lightfoot, on a cruise with her mom, jumped into action to help.
The two had just disembarked Friday morning and were waiting for a shuttle to go shopping when they saw a bus with a Hilo Hatties logo heading toward a crowd of people.
“Somebody screamed, and then I looked over and the bus hit into the crowd,” she said.
“It just kept going until it hit the wall there. Big cement block was pushed out and the bus hit into the wall. I ran over and kind of started triaging people and trying to help.”
Lightfoot said she’s accustomed to seeing traumatic injuries, but “this is just different.”
“We’re on vacation. The husband of one of the family members was there and just sad.”
Bystanders said the chaotic scene unfolded in seconds.
“It was shocking,” said witness Mike Frost.
Added Linda Reck, also visiting from Florida, “It just kept going and and my daughter yells out, ‘There’s nobody driving the bus.’ And then poof, it hits the wall.”
Honolulu police said it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash.
Carnival Miracle issued the following statement about the incident:
Nine Carnival Miracle guests were hit by a shuttle bus in the transportation area outside the Honolulu cruise terminal on Friday morning, April 12. Sadly, one guest has died from her injuries. She was traveling with her husband, who was also injured and is expected to recover. Members of the Carnival Care Team are assisting the guests. Our thoughts are with the guests affected and their loved ones. Carnival Miracle is on a 15-day Carnival Journeys sailing that departed Long Beach, Calif. on April 6.
