However, our evaluation of their performance with popular visa destinations like Australia, Brazil, and China showed some mixed results, especially since their website defaults to certain visa types that may not be suitable for every traveler. They also have some additional services available at extra costs, ones that you might mistakenly think are part of your initial service fee. While TDS has received positive feedback in the past, a lack of recent reviews along with a low BBB rating raise some concerns. It's worth considering them as an option, but exploring other top-ranked visa service providers first is advisable.

Rush My Travel Visa would make you think that they can get you the travel documents you need quicker than average, for just about any destination. And, for some travelers, that turns out to be true: hundreds of people rate this service with a perfect five stars. But, with numerous complaints filed with the BBB and inaccurate/out-of-date information for specific countries' visa requirements, Rush My Travel Visa doesn't get our endorsement as a trustworthy option.

Handy Visas, established in 2019, aims to simplify and streamline the travel visa application process for global travelers. They have sold over a million services with a high visa application approval rate of 99%. While their customer ratings are positive, Handy Visas is unable to assist US citizens with visa applications in some popular destination countries. And, their customer support is limited to email with a 72-hour response time, which may not be suitable for urgent situations. Despite offering a stellar guarantee/refund policy and positive reviews, Handy Visas ranks below average, especially for US passport holders.

Let's cut to the chase: Travisa is not our favorite travel visa service, largely because of its lack of transparency in pricing. Although we appreciate the up-to-date website that clearly and accurately spells out visa requirements around the world, that's not enough to make up for the long string of complaints from clients who weren't told upfront what their application process would cost them. You could easily be charged double what you initially expected when you submitted your paperwork. While Travisa may be fine when used by corporate clients, we don't recommend this service for individual travelers needing a visa.

Madrid-based Visagov claims that they want to make it easy to travel abroad, anywhere in the world. That's almost laughable, given how many countries are not included on their list of destinations, and how much of a pain it is to complete the process for the places that are included. Plus, with an email address as the sole means of contacting them, Visagov doesn't exactly seem committed to right-on-time customer service. There's no need to waste your time here.

How to Apply for Global Entry

It’s easy. just follow these steps..

Before applying, make sure you are eligible for Global Entry .  

Create a Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account

Regardless of your age, you must have your own Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account.

Log in to your TTP account and complete the application

A $100 non-refundable fee is required with each completed application.

Schedule an interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center

After accepting your completed application, CBP will conduct a review. If your application is conditionally approved, your TTP account will instruct you to schedule an interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center . Each applicant must schedule a separate interview.

Complete the application process

Bring your valid passport and one other form of identification, such as a driver’s license or ID card, to the interview. If you are a lawful permanent resident, you must present your machine readable permanent resident card.

Non-Refundable Application Fee

A $100 one-time fee is required with your Global Entry application and must be paid at time of application submission through the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) system. You can pay by credit card or through an electronic bank transfer.

The fee is non-refundable, even if an application is denied.

This article reviews four of the best online visa services companies and shares how to get a visa quickly so you can travel worry-free.

My spicy relationship with Visa Services goes way back to 2008.

That year, Brazil was calling my name and as you know, once the idea of a trip takes hold, it’s tough to shake.

My mind went into a travel frenzy and my buddy and I booked tickets without much planning or thought.

There was a good bit of lead-time. In the immortal words of Alfred E. Neuman, “What me worry?”

The problem was that we both got busy and procrastinated on doing the things we should have done BEFORE we even booked flights.

We had no idea we needed a special Visa to go to Brazil and realized we might be totally screwed.

At the time I had no way of knowing that this trip would change my life forever (I’ll share how in just a moment).

Thankfully an expedited visa services company made the trip possible.

Before heading out on a big international trip, it’s important to make sure all of your documents are in order.

For US citizens planning an international trip, a visa may be required for permitted entry into the country.

When visa applications get tricky, a visa services company can make sure you’re set and ready to go.

If you hate dealing with a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense and would rather have someone else take care of paperwork so you can focus on your trip, then visa services can be an amazing option for you.

Let’s take China, for example.

Unlike many countries, which grant access with a passport and stamp, China requires US citizens to do a bit more planning and noting of what the intended purpose of their visit is.

Simply put, the purpose of a visa services company is to make the process of obtaining the most applicable visa much easier for travelers. The company’s website lists the countries they cover, and walks users through the steps of applying for and obtaining the correct visa.

For a fee, of course. Typically, travelers will pay up to $200 for professional assistance obtaining a visa.

There are a number of visa services companies available. Some are better than others, and some offer assistance with many countries while some may specialize in as few as one.

In this article, we’re going to cover four of the prominent visa services companies and why you should or shouldn’t use them for your trip. But first, let’s dive a bit deeper into what exactly a visa services company is.

Why use visa services?

Visa services essentially take most of the paperwork out of applying for a visa to visit a certain country. For example, if you find yourself unsure of how to go about obtaining a visa for an upcoming trip. Or , if you just want to make sure everything is filed correctly, visa services companies can do the work for you.

Visa services companies will make sure all required paperwork is filled out, signed, and delivered to the proper place. Passport photos will be checked for faults, and their staff is there to answer any questions that you may have.

These companies also often handle tasks such as renewing your passport and handling any international mail required for your visa.

Always research how long you’ll be allowed to stay in each specific country.

If you plan to stay longer than allowed or do things like obtain employment while in the country or go to school, specific visas are required in most cases. Visa services companies can help you identify and apply for the correct visa.

Visa services can also help expedite the visa process. If you’re crunched for time like I was before my Brazil trip, you might not have another option.

What you need for online visa services

• Quality scanned photo of your passport. Make sure everything on the photo page is showing: full name, birth date, passport expiration date, barcode, etc.
• Passport photo in digital format. You can use a mobile app such as Passport Photo Booth to take this photo. Find a plain white wall to use as background. Be sure to follow all directions specifically otherwise your photo may be rejected.
• Be prepared to mail your passport to the visa services company’s office. They will handle any domestic or international mailing and preparing of the passport that is needed – basically, you won’t have to wait in line at, or mail your passport to, the consulate of the country you intend to visit in order to obtain a visa.  

Situations when you don’t need visa services

Using a visa services business is not necessary for tourism-based trips to any country that offers a visa on arrival, or doesn’t require a visa for citizens of your country.

Visa on arrival simply means that a visa can be bought or obtained at the customs booth upon arrival at the international airport or border crossing of your destination country.

It’s important to note that the length of stay allowed on a VOA varies by country. If you’re coming for a quick visit and then moving on, a VOA (if offered) will do you just fine. In these cases, you’re safe without using a visa services company.

If you are comfortable handling the application directly through the consulate website and mailing your passport, the process can be done by yourself.

Be sure to read up on not only the consulate website but travel boards and forums as well, just to make sure you aren’t forgetting anything.

Visa services are not always necessary. But for countries lacking a Visa-On-Arrival, they make the process a lot easier.

Global Entry is a government-run membership program that allows preapproved, low-risk travelers to use expedited security lines when returning to the United States from travel abroad. It’s one of several “trusted traveler programs” along with TSA PreCheck and NEXUS. Here’s what you need to know about how Global Entry works to help you decide if it’s worth it for you.

What does Global Entry do?

In the United States, Global Entry clearance speeds up the time it takes to get through the customs line when arriving from an international location. Instead of waiting in the typical long lines formed when multiple international flights arrive at the airport or a ship full of passengers disembarks at the port, those with Global Entry membership can check in at a designated kiosk or via the Global Entry mobile app, bypassing the need to wait in a queue.

How to get Global Entry

Global Entry is a Trusted Traveler Program run by the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection Department. Membership in this program is limited to U.S. citizens, U.S. legal permanent residents, and Mexican nationals. There are also some countries that have arrangements with the U.S. and the Global Entry program to help expedite entry and exit with those countries. You can find a list of currently participating partner nations here .

For those who fit the residency criteria, there’s a few steps to apply for a Global Entry card:

• Go to the Trusted Traveler website and create an account.
• Fill out the application. You’ll be asked a number of questions including your legal name, Social Security number, address and other identifying information.
• Pay a non-refundable application fee of $100. You can pay with a credit card or by electronic bank transfer. Some travel credit cards offer an application fee reimbursement if you charge it to the card. More on that below.
• Wait for an email from the Trusted Traveler system indicating your status has changed. This might typically take around two to three weeks, although some online users have reported faster results (and some, slower results). Once you receive notice that your status has changed, you can log into your account to see if you’ve received conditional approval or been denied. If you were denied, there will be a note indicating why. If you were conditionally approved, the next step is to set up an interview at an Enrollment Center. The Trusted Traveler site indicates this could take anywhere from four to six months. A quicker option if it aligns with your travel plans is the Enrollment on Arrival option. Those entering the U.S. from an international location with conditional approval to an airport with a designated U.S. Customs and Border Control Preclearance location can complete their interview at the airport by letting the agent know when it’s your turn to clear customs. Currently there are over 50 U.S. airports with Preclearance locations. However, you can only participate in Enrollment on Arrival if you’re returning from an international trip. Domestic flights or walk-ins are not eligible for this option. Also note that you’ll need your passport and an accepted document showing evidence of residency (such as your driver’s license, mortgage or rent statement, or utility bill). 
• Once you’ve completed your interview, it should take approximately two to four weeks to receive your physical card.

Do I need to carry my Global Entry card when traveling?

No, if you are flying, you do not need to carry your physical Global Entry card to use Global Entry in the airport. However, you do need to present your card if seeking expedited entry at SENTRI and NEXUS lanes coming into the U.S.

What’s the difference between Global Entry and TSA PreCheck?

Global Entry allows expedited entry into the U.S. from international locations and also includes TSA PreCheck membership—but is run by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. TSA PreCheck expedites the security line process when departing from U.S. airports and is run by the Transportation Security Administration. Here’s a comparison of the two programs:

What is CLEAR?

CLEAR is a biometric technology company that is not a government-operated trusted traveler program but can provide expedited identity screening. CLEAR® Plus is the CLEAR program found at 55+ U.S. airports that allows its members to go through the security checkpoint process more quickly in a dedicated lane. TSA PreCheck is in more than 200 airports, although some airports will have both TSA PreCheck lanes and CLEAR lanes. Which one is faster will depend on various factors including how busy the airport is and how many people are in line for each.

Certain credit cards reimburse you for a CLEAR Plus membership, such as the American Express® Green Card —for an annual fee of $150, the Amex Green provides a yearly credit of up to $189 credit toward cost of CLEAR® Plus per calendar year. 

There’s also a free CLEAR membership option you can sign up for that can get you through security and into your seat more quickly at certain stadiums and arenas.

Are there other Trusted Traveler programs?

Yes, in addition to TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, other trusted traveler programs include:

• NEXUS: This program allows expedited air, vehicle and pedestrian entry into the U.S. and Canada, expedited marine entrance into the U.S. from Canada, and provides access to TSA PreCheck expedited security lanes at airports within the U.S. and U.S territories for U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, and Canadian citizens. There is a $50 application fee and NEXUS is good for five years once approved.
• SENTRI: This program allows expedited air, vehicle and pedestrian entry into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico for U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, and all foreign nationals. There is a $122.25 fee and SENTRI is good for five years once approved. SENTRI offers access to TSA PreCheck expedited security lanes at airports within the U.S. and U.S territories for U.S. citizens and U.S. lawful permanent residents.
• FAST: This program allows expedited entry for truck drivers entering and exiting the U.S. from Canada and Mexico who are U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, Canadian citizens, Canadian permanent residents, and Mexican nationals. There is a $50 fee and it’s good for five years. It does not include TSA PreCheck.

There are multiple travel credit cards that offer an up to $100 application fee reimbursement credit for you to apply for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck if you pay with the card. Some of the options include:
