STANDBY TRAVEL PLAYBOOK

Unravelling the mysteries of employee travel

With our employee travel privileges, we have the opportunity to share the world with friends and family.

Navigating standby travel can be daunting, especially those that do not travel often or those that have not done so for some time. This is why the Employee Travel team has come up with a standby travel playbook, which acts as a guide to making the most out of your employee privileges. The playbook goes over every aspect of travelling on your employee passes, from how to shop for flights, to what to do on the day of departure, to how to adjust when things don’t go according to plan.

To access the Playbook, click the red ETS button near the top of this page then look under Travel Tips – Standby travel playbook – Travel 101 . If you have any questions not covered in the playbook, feel free to reach out to the Travel team: 1 (833) 847-3675 or [email protected]

New Employee Travel Enhancements!!!

Based on employee and retiree feedback, Air Canada Employee Travel has just introduced some exciting new enhancements to retiree travel privileges:

· As of January 17, 2022, each retiree will be granted an annual “Flex bundle” of four (4) C1/J passes. These passes will be topped up to four (4) C1J passes at the beginning of each calendar year. As you know, C1/J passes are a higher priority than the current C2/J passes, and so these passes can be of great value to a retiree with many years of service standing by for a full flight

· There will be a one-time carryover of remaining passes (“Conversion bundle”) where any C1 passes a retiree may have now which have no expiry dates would stay with the retiree until depleted.

· The new, simplified cost structure (for bundle passes only) is great – all service charges for the bundle passes for retirees, spouses, nominated partners and dependent children are waived. For any additional travel companions and non-dependent children using bundle passes, the service charges will be based on the new zonal concept.

· Your regular unlimited allotment of C2/Y10 passes will remain unchanged.

· For more information, please consult the Employee Travel Website (“What’s New”, “Exciting Enhancements to Employee Travel”). Page 6 addresses retiree travel benefits.

January 2, 2022

Please note: as previously announced, your VSHP deduction is waived for January and February 2022. Regular deductions - at the 2021 level - will occur from March 31, 2022 to Dec. 31, 2022.

Baggage Policy for Travel from China In order to support the Federal Government in it's efforts to reduce the risk of Federal Law violations due to the importation of counterfeit goods (i.e. 'knock-offs'), Air Canada will be introducing a maximum allowance of one, checked bag per person for non-revenue travel, when traveling on stand-by from China on Air Canada. Please note this represents the maximum allowance permitted, therefore it cannot be exceeded under any circumstances (this means that oversize/overweight pieces will not be accepted). The policy will come in effect on June 1, 2012, and will apply to all stand-by passengers boarding Air Canada flights in China.

Boeing 777-300 (77P) aircrafts -are required to limit their carry-on to one personal item, such as a purse or laptop case. Employees traveling with babies will be able to board the plane with two personal items (i.e. one purse, one diaper bag). Duty Free purchases are not exception and must fit inside your personal item.

Air Canada Rouge - YYZ-KIN-YYZ - One carry on item and one checked bag permitted on this flights only per passenger.

Employee travel dress code A

clean, neat and professional appearance reinforces our brand and our world-class products and services.

How we present ourselves is as important and distinctive as our logo and signals to our customers that we strive to be the very best at what we do.

In the spirit of modernizing our employee dress code policy, we want to empower our employees to dress with care, class and common sense when travelling with Air Canada.

This policy is applicable to all employees, retirees, eligible family members and friends.

Policy Statement

The intent of this policy is to equip employees with general guidelines when dressing for travel. Guidelines When Travelling for Business or Leisure Air Canada's dress code is designed to respect and reflect our brand image, while allowing employees the flexibility to travel comfortably. Whether employees are travelling for business or leisure, their appearance must be clean and appropriate for the activities or meetings scheduled for their day. Any clothing that is stained, dirty, transparent, torn, revealing, or otherwise compromises a neat appearance, is not permitted.

Dress with “care, class and common sense”. In other words, employees have the discretion to make their clothing choice based on what is appropriate. Employees must use common sense in their choice of attire.

When travelling on other airlines, employees should follow the other airlines’ dress code guidelines. Employees should contact the airline directly before they travel to inquire about their dress code. We trust that employees will make the right choices. In case of uncertainty, employees are free to consult with our Travel Care Team at [email protected] .

Non-Compliance with the Policy Employees are personally held accountable for their attire and the attire of friends and family members when traveling on pass privileges. Incidents of non-compliance (Air Canada employees and family members or employees from other airlines) should be reported to the Travel and Recognition department at: [email protected] .

Failure to comply with any information contained in this policy will result in the suspension of travel pass privileges

You can use web check-in and our self-service kiosk

Through check-in is not available for stand-by passengers.

When there are two or more interline employees travelling on the same flight, the date of listing by the reservation department will determine the onload/offload and the cabin upgrade/downgrade order.

Non-revs are upgraded after revenue passengers. If economy is full, the non-rev will automatically be put into the next class of service that has available seats (premium economy or business class), regardless of what class of service they listed themselves on. Air Canada does not leave non-revs behind if there are seats open in business or premium economy, but not in economy.

Does Air Canada have Wi-Fi?

How much is wi-fi on air canada, does air canada have free wi-fi, how to save on air canada wi-fi costs using credit cards, how to connect to air canada wi-fi, if you want to connect to air canada wi-fi.

For some travelers, staying connected in the air is essential to flying. Whether you respond to business emails before arrival or keep up to date with your social networks, Air Canada generally offers some level of Wi-Fi access, depending on your flight details.

If you're planning an Air Canada trip soon, here’s what you should know about in-flight Air Canada Wi-Fi.

» Learn more: The points collector’s guide to Air Canada Aeroplan

All Air Canada Rouge (Air Canada's low-cost subsidiary) customers can access high-speed Wi-Fi during their flight. Premium Rogue customers can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi, while economy customers have Wi-Fi available for purchase.

Air Canada is working on growing its Wi-Fi capable aircraft. Currently, the carrier offers Gogo-equipped Wi-Fi, but connectivity is limited to certain North American and international flights.

Nearly all of Air Canada’s wide-body planes have streaming-quality Wi-Fi and most of Air Canada’s narrow-body aircraft are also equipped with Wi-Fi.

The exception is the 737 MAX 8 (7M8) fleet, where connectivity is still in progress. As of this writing, just 25% of Air Canada’s 737 MAX 8 (7M8) aircraft have Wi-Fi connectivity.

You can check if Air Canada in-flight Wi-Fi is available on an aircraft before booking your flight. Simply check that the Wi-Fi logo is present in the flight details to confirm that the aircraft is Wi-Fi connected. Keep in mind that you’ll need to verify in-flight Wi-Fi for each flight on a multi-leg trip.

Additionally, you can use the Air Canada Wi-Fi tool on the airline’s website to check if your upcoming flight has Wi-Fi access. You can check this detail using your flight number and departure date, or using your flight route and departure date.

» Learn more: Getting elite status on Air Canada with the Aeroplan credit card

Air Canada passengers can pre-purchase one of three Wi-Fi pass options or purchase a pass at in-air pricing — possibly at a higher cost — after boarding. The pass options include:

Air Canada 1-Hour Pass $4.77 ($6.50 CAD). Offers one continuous hour of Wi-Fi access during the flight.

Air Canada 1-Way Pass $15.41 ($21.00 CAD). Offers internet connectivity during the entire length of your flight.

Air Canada Monthly Plan $48.40 ($65.95 CAD). A monthly subscription for internet access on all Air Canada Wi-Fi capable aircraft between Canada, U.S., and Mexico.

With a pass you can browse the internet, check email, scroll updates on social media and send text messages via Wi-Fi. However, in-flight Air Canada Wi-Fi doesn’t support Voice Service and Voice over IP.

Air Canada’s Aeroplan loyalty program offers complimentary Wi-Fi access for its 75K Status and Super Elite Aeroplan members. Specifically, this benefit offers a 12-month plan for Gogo Wi-Fi for up to five devices. Only one device can be logged into in-flight Wi-Fi at a time.

Additionally, Aeroplan members have access to free texting. To access this complimentary feature, members must add their Aeroplan number to their booking information before checking in to the flight.

Unfortunately, Air Canada’s Aeroplan® Credit Card doesn’t offer free or discounted Wi-Fi access as a travel benefit. However, one way to cover all or part of the cost of Wi-Fi is through a travel rewards credit card.

If you carry a card that provides an annual travel credit you haven’t claimed yet, you can subsidize the cost of a Wi-Fi pass using your card’s benefit. Some credit cards that offer travel credit that can be applied to in-flight Wi-Fi charges include:

The Platinum Card® from American Express

on American Express' website

Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Credit Card

on Bank of America's website

Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card

on Chase's website

Up to $200 annually with your preferred airline. Enrollment required. Terms apply.

Up to $100 annually.

$300 annual statement credit for travel purchases.

» Learn more: The best travel credit cards right now

Once comfortably in your seat, you can connect to Wi-Fi on Air Canada flights in three simple steps.

Go to “Settings” on your mobile device. Set your device to “Airplane mode” and turn on Wi-Fi.

Select “ACWiFi.com” to connect to the airline’s Wi-Fi network.

Launch your browser and go to “acwifi.com” and follow the instructions from there.

If you need technical support during your flight, select “Wi-Fi Onboard” for assistance from Air Canada’s Wi-Fi service provider.

Unless you have 75K or Super Elite Aeroplan status, chances are Air Canada Wi-Fi will cost you. You might be able to save a few bucks by purchasing your pass ahead of time if you’re sure you’ll need to be connected.

The good news is the airline is focusing its efforts on getting free in-flight Air Canada Wi-Fi for all its passengers in the future. It’s testing out “full, fast and free” Wi-Fi for its regional flights and plans on expanding that to its other customers.

How to maximize your rewards

The U.S. issues new travel guidelines, warning that Iran will avenge the killings of senior commanders.

The State Department has barred its employees from traveling to large parts of Israel. Iran has repeatedly vowed to strike back over the deadly bombing this month of an Iranian Embassy complex in Syria.

A view of Jerusalem’s Old City.

By Liam Stack and Eric Schmitt

  • April 12, 2024

Several countries including the United States have issued new travel guidelines for Israel and the surrounding region, as the Israeli military said its forces were “highly alert” for a possible Iranian strike in retaliation for the killings of several commanders.

Iran has repeatedly vowed to strike back at Israel over the bombing of an Iranian Embassy complex in Damascus, Syria, this month that killed three generals and four other military officers. An American official said on Friday that Washington expects an attack by Iran against Israel that would be bigger than recent attacks in the long shadow war between the two countries, but not so big that it would draw the United States into war. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

The U.S. State Department on Thursday barred its employees from traveling to large parts of Israel, the first time the U.S. government had restricted the movement of its employees in this way since the war in Gaza began more than six months ago.

On Thursday, Britain told its citizens that they “should consider leaving” Israel and the Palestinian territories “if it is safe to do so.” On Friday, India told its citizens “not to travel to Iran or Israel till further notice,” while France advised people not to travel to Israel, Iran or Lebanon and evacuated the families of French diplomats from Iran.

Asked about the U.S. travel warning , Matthew Miller, the State Department spokesman, said at a news briefing Thursday: “We have seen Iran making public threats against Israel in the past few days.” He declined to provide details about any specific information that prompted the warning.

The new guidelines bar U.S. government employees and their families from traveling to locations outside the Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Beersheba metropolitan areas “out of an abundance of caution” until further notice. The State Department said U.S. personnel could move among those areas for personal travel.

The top American military commander for the Middle East, Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, traveled to Israel to coordinate a response to possible Iranian retaliation, U.S. officials said.

“Our enemies think that they will divide Israel and the United States,” the Israeli defense minister, Yoav Gallant, said in a statement on Friday after meeting with General Kurilla. “They are connecting us and are strengthening the relationship between us.”

If Iran attacks, he added, “we will know how to respond.”

On Thursday, the Israeli military’s chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said that the armed forces were “highly alert and prepared” for any action Iran might take, even as the timing and scale of any response remained unclear. Analysts say that Tehran, which has long used a network of proxy forces to project power across the Middle East, wants to avoid igniting a full-fledged war that could drag in the United States and threaten the survival of Iran’s regime.

“For years, and even more so during the war, Iran has been financing, directing and arming its proxies — in Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, Iraq and Yemen — to attack the state of Israel,” he said. “An attack from Iranian territory would be clear evidence of Iran’s intentions to escalate the Middle East and stop hiding behind the proxies.”

Our Coverage of the Israel-Hamas War

News and Analysis

Within moments of Israel and its allies shooting down a fusillade of Iranian missiles and drones, many began wondering what the exchange would mean for the war in Gaza. Military analysts were divided .

The disappearance and death of an Israeli teenager, whose body was found in the West Bank , spurred deadly rioting by Israeli settlers in Palestinian villages, ratcheting up tensions  even further in the occupied territory.

For months, Western governments have sent weapons to Israel while fending off accusations of abetting war crimes in Gaza. But as an outcry over the civilian death toll mounts, maintaining that balance is becoming increasingly difficult .

Mobilizing the American Left: As the death toll in Gaza climbed, the pro-Palestinian movement grew into a powerful, if disjointed, political force in the United States . Democrats are feeling the pressure.

Riding Rage Over Israel: Jackson Hinkle’s incendiary commentary  has generated over two million new followers on X since October — a surge that some researchers say is aided by inauthentic accounts by the online celebrity.

Psychedelics and Trauma: Thousands of festival-goers were using mind-altering substances when Hamas-led fighters attacked on Oct 7. Now, scientists are studying the effects of such drugs at a moment of trauma .

Turmoil at J Street: The war in Gaza has raised serious concerns within the Jewish political advocacy group about its ability to hold a middle position  without being pulled apart by forces on the right and the left.
