Back by popular demand! BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Featuring a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, including “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and the title song, BEAUTIFUL has a book by and Tony® Award-nominee and Academy® Award-nominated writer Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni, choreography by Josh Prince, and took home two 2014 Tony® Awards and a 2015 Grammy® Award.

James Taylor, Carole King announce reunion tour dates

In the four decades since James Taylor and Carole King helped launch each other’s storied careers, the notion of someday recapturing that magic never completely faded.
“Every time we would run into each other at a benefit or at an event … we’d say we have to get the band back together, get that band back together and do some touring before the chance slips away,” Taylor said in a recent interview.
On Monday, Taylor and King announced dates for the U.S. leg of their much-anticipated “Troubadour Reunion” tour. The tour, marking the 40th anniversary of the pair’s breakthrough shows, will launch May 7 in Portland, Ore.
As previously announced, the tour will begin overseas in Melbourne, Australia, on March 26.

“In a sense we started our solo careers sharing a band, sharing a stage, we did a show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles that really sort of broke both of us out of the box and established our careers,” Taylor said.
King played on Taylor’s 1970 “Sweet Baby James” album and Taylor on King’s 1971 “Tapestry” album.
“We started performing, originally she was in my band, and then I increasingly encouraged her to sing her own songs,” said Taylor. “She was used to being a writer, and to having other people do her tunes.”
King, in fact, had already written 22 Top 40 hits, including Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman.”
“Tapestry,” released in 1971, sold more than 25 million copies worldwide and made King the first woman to win four Grammys in a single year.
Taylor, 61, has won five Grammys during his career. Both Taylor and King, 67, are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The idea for a reunion tour had been brewing for years, Taylor said.
“Finally, two years ago we played at a sort of anniversary celebration for (the Troubadour), with the original band and that was so great we decided to take it on the road.”
The tour will reunite not only Taylor and King, but key members of their original band, including guitarist Danny Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar.
While the shows will be at larger venues such as the Hollywood Bowl or Madison Square Garden, the performers hope to recapture at least some of the intimacy of those early Troubadour days, in part by staging the concerts in the round. Taylor said he and King will remain on the stage together throughout the show.
“I think we’ll do two sets, both of us will be on stage the whole time, either singing backup for each or playing behind the other. We’ll sort of skip back and forth, do a song of hers, a song of mine, but we’ll stay on the stage,” he said.
“It’s just going to be a blast.”

Over the course of a career that is now well past the fifty year mark, Carole King has solidified her reputation as one of the finest songwriters in the history of pop music; back in 2000, a researcher for Billboard calculated that she was the most successful female songwriter of the twentieth century’s second half, on the basis that she had been involved in the penning of no fewer than one hundred and eighteen chart hits between 1955 and 1999. Her breakthrough album, Tapestry, has taken on iconic status as the years have passed, with four Grammy awards to its name and a position, according to Rolling stone, as the thirty-sixth greatest record of all time. As a live performer, too, King has been known for her prodigious work rate down the years, frequently touring with her long-time collaborator James Taylor. During live shows, she’s practically glued to the piano, and can nowadays fall back on a back catalogue that spans several decades when she comes to construct the setlist. Despite hinting at retirement in 2012, she toured Australia in early 2013 and performed at the Boston Strong benefit with Taylor; her return to British shores, though, is now long overdue.

Walnut Street Theatre Presents Beautiful - The Carole King Musical Through May 5
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Beautiful - The Carole King Musical tells the story of the prolific songwriter's life.
Matthew Amira plays King's husband, Gerry Goffin.
Amira says audiences will see King's journey, "from aspiring songwriter to when she found her voice and became a solo star."
"The Walnut Street Theatre is doing a brand-new take on it. There's a lot more dance," he says.
"The music everyone will love, but I think people will be surprised by how touching her story is and how much heart there is in this musical," says Kathryn Boswell, who plays songwriter Cynthia Weil in the show.
It follows two songwriting couples in New York City - King and her husband, Gerry, and Weil and her husband, Barry Mann.
Amira plays opposite his real-life wife, Boswell.
"And there's constant competition between these two couples to churn out the best songs of the time," he says.
King navigates her tumultuous marriage while continuing to write hit songs.
Boswell says audiences will see how the music that she wrote was influenced by her sadness.
Weil becomes a friend and source of support for King.
Boswell says both women had the same goal of writing songs and becoming as successful as their male counterparts.
"And they were both truly revolutionary," she says.
Their songwriting produced hits that helped boost other groups to stardom, like the Shirelles.
" Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow was Gerry Goffin and Carole King's first number one hit," says Amira. "And there was this lovely symbiotic relationship between these writers and incredible Black artists."
The Drifters had a hit with Some Kind of Wonderful .
Boswell says they were a part of so many iconic songs.
"People come away saying, 'I had no idea that she wrote all these songs,' so you're gonna be surprised," says Amira.
The arc of the show lands audiences at Carnegie Hall.
"You see her transition to when she found her voice and released her first solo album, Tapestry ," he says.
"The music will make you feel so much joy. It is so beautiful," says Boswell.
Beautiful - The Carole King Musical runs through May 5 at the Walnut Street Theatre.

Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’ roll. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice.

About Carole King
Carole King Klein (born Carol Joan Klein ; February 9, 1942) is an American singer-songwriter who has been active since 1958, initially as one of the staff songwriters at the Brill Building and later as a solo artist. She is the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century in the US, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100. King also wrote 61 hits that charted in the UK, making her the most successful female songwriter on the UK singles charts between 1962 and 2005.
King's major success began in the 1960s when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote more than two dozen chart hits, many of which have become standards, for numerous artists. She has continued writing for other artists since then. King's success as a performer in her own right did not come until the 1970s, when she sang her own songs, accompanying herself on the piano, in a series of albums and concerts. After experiencing commercial disappointment with her debut album Writer , King scored her breakthrough with the album Tapestry , which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years.
King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry , which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. Her record sales were estimated at more than 75 million copies worldwide. She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her songwriting. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored. She is also a 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree.

“We started chasing; they were making excuses ,” a spokesman for the unpaid clients told the Daily Mail in 2023. “She apologized. She said that one of the managers was failing to deal with it, so she said, ‘I’m personally going to deal with it. I’ll rectify everything. I won’t be able to pay it in one lump: I’ll pay it on a weekly basis.’” It eventually reached a point where Carole stopped answering her phone.
James Sinclair, who bought the Party Pieces company in bankruptcy without acquiring its debts, defended Carole to The Telegraph . “ I don’t think it’s Carole’s fault ,” he said. “She sold half the business at 65 years old to an investment firm and in my view, they ruined it.” It was a quick-fire sale of their declining investment, so Carole and Michael “didn’t get any of the administration proceeds,” per Sinclair. “She’s not got a big fat cheque for selling her business.” The Middletons may not be as rich as people believe and they may be struggling in a downturned economy like many working-class citizens.

Adrian Belew Leads All-Star Band Back to King Crimson’s ’80s Era
F ormer King Crimson bandmates Adrian Belew and Tony Levin will celebrate the band’s ’80s-era renaissance during a series of all-star North American dates with Steve Vai and Danny Carey .
Simply dubbed “Beat,” the band will present music from 1981’s Discipline , 1982’s Beat and 1984’s Three of a Perfect Pair . Their tour begins in San Jose, California, then makes stops in Los Angeles, San Diego, Toronto, Dallas, New York and Boston before wrapping in Las Vegas.
General pre-sale tickets go on sale beginning Friday, April 5, at www.BEAT-tour.com . Both meet-and-greet and VIP tour packages will also be available. A complete list of Beat tour stops is below.
READ MORE: How King Crimson Was Reborn on ‘Discipline’
Belew and Levin were invited to join King Crimson in 1981 and remained in the lineup until Robert Fripp put the group on hiatus again in 1984. They were also part of the next iteration from 1994 to 2008. Levin continued thereafter until what appears to be King Crimson’s final tour in 2021. Fripp has given his blessing to this new project.
“I went back to Robert and said, ‘Here’s what I’ve got,'” Belew tells UCR. “We talked about a lot of things. He had a lot of questions but he said, ‘What are you thinking of calling it?’ The producers had made up a name which had my name in it – which I didn’t like that much because I didn’t feel it represented the whole band, but I told Robert anyway. They wanted to call it Crimson Belew. He said, ‘Hmmm, oh.’ I could tell he was balking. I said, ‘Well, I don’t really like it either. I’m not happy with that, but what would you call it?'”
Fripp considered things for a moment, then said, “‘You know, I’ve always used the term ‘Discipline’ for all of my business and everything for years now. For 13 years, you and Tony and Pat Mastelotto have had your band camp and you guys called that ‘Three of a Perfect Pair.’ Why don’t you call it ‘Beat,'” Belew remembered with a laugh. “I said, ‘Will that get your support?’ He said, ‘Yeah, you have my support and blessing.'”
Adrian Belew and Steve Vai Have a Frank Zappa Connection
Like Belew, Steve Vai is a former guitarist with Frank Zappa . He has toured and recorded with David Lee Roth , Whitesnake , Alice Cooper , Motorhead and, most recently, Joe Satriani . “Robert Fripp is one of our historical geniuses,” Vai said in an official statement. “His highly specific and exceptionally brilliant guitar technique is studied and revered. His contribution to the quality of my musical life, and so many others is supreme.”
Carey is Tool ‘s co-founding drummer, and has also worked with Carole King and the Melvins . He also appeared on Belew’s 2005 album Side One . “Revisiting some of my favorite music is a treat in itself,” Levin added, “but in company of this stellar lineup, I expect to have my musical butt kicked.”
There was an initial schism when Fripp decided to jumpstart King Crimson without Belew in 2013, but they mended fences a few years later.
