Endurance bikes average price

According to our calculations, the average cost of an Endurance bike that is reliable is 2346 $ . To sum up, when you purchase your bike, make sure to check if it has reviews, and also do some components research.

Overview of components

Fork material.

When it comes to the fork, this bike has a carbon one, so, it won’t add up to much weight to your bike. However, the price you have to pay for a carbon fork is considerably higher.

Wheels size

The Domane 4.7 Compact 2014 bike is equipped with 700c aluminum wheels when leaving the factory. There is no doubt, that 700c wheels are very popular on all road bike models. However, these wheels don’t perform so well when passing over obstacles.

When you want to stop the bike in time, the brakes are vital. The Domane 4.7 Compact has Rim brakes. Slightly lighter than hydraulic brakes, rim brakes are a budget choice. However, you could spend a little extra and get a bike that has hydraulic brakes.

This bike is available in 7 sizes . They vary from 157 cm – 195 cm (5.15 ft – 6.4 ft) . In conclusion, you won’t have a problem finding one that suits you.

Now I am an amateur but I have been riding distance since I got my Schwinn "3 speed racer" in 1954. But never competitive, I'm just a solitary rider. The Madone 4.7, I love it. It is well balanced, I can easily ride no hands and I have been up to 35 mph on a downhill and it was steady as a rock. The components work well, it is obviously light and it is pretty. What more can an old geezer want?

I still have to peddle.

Light weight, great frame and truly great component set. Good value wheels, reliable finishing kit.

Cheaper and perhaps better value bikes out there (although I got mine as a MY14/15 changeover run-out for a bargain!). Saddle showing signs of wear after only 500km but certainly no deal breaker!

For the last few years I've solely ridden mountain bikes, taking part in a number of short and long course XC and endurance events. I love my mountain biking, but with work and family commitments I was having trouble getting out regularly enough to keep up a reasonable level of fitness and my enthusiasm was waning as a result - my fitness was not keeping up with my expectations of performance. After spending months and thousands of kilometers riding my mountain bike on the road to try and make up the fitness deficit I decided it was time to get a more suitable steed... I tried lots of bikes. The really desirable models were outside my budget (of course) and if mountain biking had taught me anything its that to a point, you get what you pay for! I tried the new 2015 Giant Defy models (my MTB is a Giant) but they left me feeling a bit cold... like getting into a mid range Nissan or Toyota... they do everything right but with no sense of charisma or passion. After walking into my local store and describing my dilemma, I was invited to "walk this way" expecting to be shown the latest bells and whistles all singing and dancing model I was shown the 2014 Trek Madone 4.7. It looked too expensive for me. I smiled and said "Maybe when I save out some more sheckles..." but was very pleasantly surprised by the price tag. After a quick series of measurements I was pointed to the 56cm frame and invited for a test ride. Immediately there was more of a sense of connection with the bike (not just the price... it was actually still more expensive than the Giant Defy i'd test ridden...) and it actually felt right. Its been said millions of times but I'll say it again... the full Ultegra 6800 kit is peerless in this price range. Precise, light, crisp and very nice to look at! The wheels are Bontrager Race TLR with a Bontrager R2 tyre. Stem is Bontrager as are the saddle and bars - they are all good performers if not light weight... plenty of options for later upgrades! In the first three weeks of ownership I wracked up 550km and have not looked back. My fitness is up, my enjoyment of cycling is up and I couldn't be happier. The frame is stiff - super stiff but seems to soak up road chatter with aplomb. Weighing in around the 90kg mark I can generate a decent load on the cranks but the frame and wheels do a stellar job of transferring that to the road. My final comment would be a general one for anyone thinking of getting a road bike - get yourself a bike fit carried out by a professional like a physio or similar. I thought it felt comfortable until I had the bike fit - now its on another level. Do it.

versatility

frequent derailleur adjustment

The 2014 Trek Madone 4.7 is a great all around, do everything well bike. You could race crits on this bike but it’s also great for climbing, training, and long rides. It’s stiff and fast but the geometry isn’t so aggressive that you’ll get sore on a long ride. Yes you’ll feel slightly more road chatter than you would on a true endurance bike like a Cannondale Synapse but it’s not bad.The Madone is racy but not uncomfortable. It has full Ultegra 11 speed components which is a huge plus. So many manufacturers downspec some of the parts, especially the brakes. This bike has Ultegra brakes and they’re great. Of course being full Ultegra you’ll pay a littler more. I like the 11 speed drivetrain although I’m finding that the derailleur needs more frequent adjustment than the one on my 10 speed. Handling is fast and the wheels are even decent. I like the stock saddle although I did swap it out for a Fizik Antares. I still use the Bontrager saddle though on my trainer bike. The Bontrager R2 tires are soft, pliable, and very easy to work with but get cuts easily. I wouldn’t use them again. My only complaint is the seat post. The single bolt design is easy to adjust but can tilt forward or backward a little too easily if you exert too much force (like by hitting a pothole or something). And I weigh 145 pounds so I imagine heavier guys would have this problem even more.

This is a fantastic bike. OK there may be better but this is the bike I own and love to ride it all the time. When I have a spare moment and the weather is inviting this bike just makes you want to get out and put some miles/kms. The smoothness of the pick up, confidence and responsiveness make a grown man like a school boy again. The bike is well made and will take the odd bash, the gear change is quick and predictable and the riding position can be taylored to suit. If you have the money consider this bike and it might just bring a smile to your face each time you get on it.

I have not really seen any weaknesses yet. I find the saddle ok but most of my rides are 2 hours or so in length - not sure what all day might do. I did not like the white handle bar tape - so have changed this to black (ok so now I am getting really picky which means it must be a good bike).

A great bike and particularly a great first carbon bike!

Geometry, color scheme, responsiveness, overall ride.

The seat sucks

The 2010 madone 4.7 is the best bike I have ever owned. I was skeptical about shelling out that kind of money for a mere bike but once I took it on its maiden voyage, the penny-pinching me went out the window. The ride was unbelievably smooth, even for a bike with no suspension. It shifts perfectly and climbs very well. it seems to have been built for long, lazy rides but with the ability to dish out spurts of speed on straightaways. As mentioned above, the stock seat is crap, even after over 500 miles put on it. I had to replace it with a Specialized Toupe saddle. That was the only replacement I needed, although some better wheels would be nice but I wasnt about to shell out $800 to lose 200g on the wheels. Seeing that that is about half the price I paid for the bike itself. If you want a good road bike for a reasonable price, look no further than the Madone 4.7. My bike weighs in at about 19lbs fully loaded for a 54cm. If you want a lighter bike and are willing to shell out the dough, get a 6.9ssl, but it will cost you around 3 or 4 times as much

Lightweight - this bike wants to go! Shifting is smooth and accurate.

Saddle - even after 100 miles of riding, the saddle was still uncomfortable, I had to replace it. Handlebars - I miss the flat spot on the drops, and they seem to end a half-inch too soon.

This summer I upgraded from a 2006 Trek 1200 SL Aluminum to a 2010 Madone 4.7, and I'm loving this bike. That said, I just couldn't get use to the saddle and had to replace it. Also, the handlebars on my 1200 were better than the ones on the Madone - they had an anatomical flat spot on the drops that was great for gripping. The Madone drops seem to quit too soon, I'd have liked another half-inch or so, I just feel it's too short. The duotrap compatibility is great. Overall, high marks for this bike.

Nimble and responsive.

Seat and tires.

The seat is not the most comfortable. Amazingly, I have had about 5 flats in the last 2 months of riding. Today (7/3/12) I got a flat on my front tire and there were 2 punctures in the tire. Don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but it seems weird. My other bike (old Schwinn with Contential tires) NEVER got a flat. I will swap out the Bontrager tires for something better. Has anyone had this problems?

Great do it all bike. Stiff, light, comfortable. Rival is outstanding.

Stock saddle is not so hot.

Revew is for 2012 4.6 which is a Madone with Rival. What an excellently balanced, all around bike. The stock wheels are just OK, I swaped them out for Zipp 101s. Best road bike I believe I have ever owned. You want smooth, it is smooth, you want to climb, all of the sudden it just goes, you want to sprint, it just does it. Corners like it is on rails. At first blush, I was not keen on the color scheme because it looked like a skunk to me, but with some gloss black specialized rib cages and a white Arione, it looks awesome.

Handling, looks and comfort.

I have a 2010 Trek Madone with Sram Rival. I have been using Shimano and the Sram was really easy to get used to. Shifts as well as the Shimano. Overall the bike is really fun to ride and go fast on. At first I thought it was a little too responsive but now I have gained confidence handling it and have hit 40 mph on desents. Easy to cruise at race speed 20 mph. Climbs very well, good power tranfer. My bike is blue and white with Sram Rival compact components. As I said didnt take much getting use to and shifts well. Replaced the tires (too many flats) and seat (personal preferance).

Bianchi C2C,

Totally superb ride.

Very poor attitude from Trek following a low mileage fault.

2011 bike, initially very very pleased with bike, geometry is spot on where after 40 or so miles on my old Dawes back ache started, no problem with this bike. Gearing perfect (mine is a triple_). Only problem is after just short of 3 months and 375 miles one of the links on the chain splayed apart and jammed the rear mech. This caused the mech to break off and buckle the wheel as well as chip the finish off the rear fork. No problem I thought as the bike is new and still under warranty. However unbelievably Trek just do not want to know, nor do Shimano who's chain failed! luckily for me the selling dealer All Terrain Bikes in Salts Mill who supplied the bike said they would take the cost of repairs on the chin (but try to claim from Shimano). However I don't feel this is fair on them, I am sure Trek have made far more out of the sale than they did! So zero marks to Trek on this issue and Full marks to All Terrain. I will certainly purchase my replacement 2nd bike from All Terrain, but it certainly won't be a Trek!!!!

Road Bike Review – Trek Domane 2012

When i hit one of the most famous cobbled climbs of the tour of flanders, the koppenberg, i knew trek's all-new domane could take it..

::GEARBOX Domane $8,837 Trek 33168

Components: Shimano Dura-Ace, Brontrager bar, stem saddle

Wheels: Bontrager Aeolus 5 D3 Clincher

Sizes: 44, 47, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60, 62 cm

The Spring Classics, with their rough roads, are notorious for beating up pro cyclist and their bikes. When I hit one of the most famous cobbled climbs of the Tour of Flanders, the Koppenberg, I knew Trek’s all-new Domane could take it. I rattled along the pavé, bouncing from stone to stone, and the bike did what it was built to do — dampen the shock and keep me pointed in the right direction.

Trek’s ISO Speed is the Domane’s centrepiece. It enables this bike to both flex for comfort and maintain stiffness for handling and power transfer, whereas some other bikes trade a little of one for the other.

Ben Coates, the company’s road bike manager, explained that when a bike hits a bump the rear flexes, causing buckling on the top tube near the head tube. “In reality, a bicycle’s wheels are always pulling apart and coming back together on the road.” It’s this accordion-like effect that can make a bike hard to handle on rough road surfaces.

ISO Speed got around this problem because the seat tube is decoupled from the top tube and seat stays, turning what was normally a solid junction into a sliding pivot.  This allows the seat tube to move slightly without affecting the rest of the frame.

The drawback? The Domane weighs roughly 100 grams more than the company’s best-selling Madone, and this is mainly because of the ISO Speed junction.

As expected, the ISO Speed’s function was most noticeable on gravel or chip sealed roads. It lessened the vibration from rough road surface, especially on the cobbles. The feature was not, however, designed to withstand hitting large bumps or holes in the road like a full suspension mountain bike. In addition, the front end of the bike doesn’t dampen road vibration as well as the rear, and has a slightly harsher feel in comparison.

With a slacker head tube angle and increased fork rake, compared to the Madone, the Domane’s geometry provides additional comfort on long rides. In addition, Trek lengthened the wheelbase and the head tube, and lowered the bottom bracket. The  geometry adjustments provide riders with more stability without excessively compromising handling through corners.

Even though Trek’s sponsored rider Fabian Cancellara officially debuted the Domane at the Tour of Flanders in April, the company understands that most of us will not be racing on cobbled roads in Northern Europe. They created a bike that average riders can feel comfortable riding. The bike is even equipped with hidden fender mounts that can accommodate tires up to 25C, features that show Trek paid attention to the smaller details.

I recommend this bike if you enjoy spending long hours in the saddle, plan to ride your next GranFondo or want to experience the famed cobbled roads of the Spring Classics on your next bike trip.
