Boston Celtics Victory Parade and Traffic Advisory

The City of Boston will host a duck boat parade on Friday, June 21, 2024, to celebrate the Celtics winning their 18th NBA Championship.

Parade Route and Map

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Causeway Street and then follow Staniford Street to Cambridge Street to Tremont Street to Boylston Street, before ending near the Hynes Convention Center.

Public Transportation

Those attending the parade are strongly encouraged to use public transportation. Riders can find more information on MBTA service, parking, paying fares, and more during Friday’s Celtics Championship Parade on the MBTA's website . 

The MBTA will have increased subway service and modified Commuter Rail schedules with additional train times before and after the parade. Riders are strongly encouraged to purchase roundtrip fares in advance.

Accessibility

The parade route will include two designated accessible viewing areas - on City Hall Plaza on the Cambridge Street side and outside of the Boston Public Library on Boylston Street.  There is no reserved seating at these viewing areas. 

Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, is another great way to get around the City. Information on passes and station locations may be found on the Bluebikes website .

The abandoned railway station that's now a major road

E ssex is a county steeped in history, especially when it comes to our railway lines and stations. From stations that played a crucial role during the Second World War, to bustling commuter hubs that see thousands of people pass through daily.

However, Essex also has its fair share of abandoned railway stations, including one that's now been transformed into a major road. Dunmow railway station, which once served Great Dunmow, Essex, is one such example.

The station was initially proposed by a group of Hertfordshire businessmen who were keen to secure easy transport for malt and barley from towns and villages in West Essex. The line, along with Dunmow station, officially opened to passengers on February 22 1869, and on the same day, the BSDandBR company was absorbed by the Great Eastern Railway.

Over the years, additional stations were added to the line, including Easton Lodge in 1894, Hockrill Halt in 1910, and Stane Street and Banister Green Halts in 1922. Despite these additions, the passenger service struggled to turn a profit.

During the Second World War, the line was used to transport thousands of tons of rubble for the construction of Saling airfield, located 5 miles from Braintree. Later, bombs were transported to the same destination under the cover of darkness.

The United States Air Force bases at Stansted and Easton Lodge also regularly received armaments and stores via Bishop's Stortford and Takeley station.

Following the war in June 1944, ambulance trains utilised the line to transport wounded soldiers back home. However, with the end of the war came a surge in car and bus transport, leading to the service running virtually empty.

This resulted in the termination of regular services on March 3, 1952. Despite this, the station wasn't officially closed to passengers until after August 1961, and it ceased goods operations on April 1, 1969.

Today, no remnants of the station exist. The former site of the station and track has been transformed into Flitch Way, a walking and cycling path that stretches from Braintree to Bishops Stortford along the 15-mile course of the Bishops Stortford, Dunmow and Braintree.

It's also been used to form the B1256 Dunmow Bypass, leaving no trace of the railway.

Wildfires force New Mexico village of Ruidoso to evacuate homes: See map

The village of ruidoso ordered all of its residents to evacuate: 'please do not try to gather belongings or protect your home - go now'..

Two wildfires burned through thousands of acres in New Mexico and residents were ordered to evacuate as the fires developed rapidly. Videos show smoke from the fire billowing into the sky, looking like orange clouds, as people watch nearby.

"I strongly urge residents of Ruidoso and the surrounding areas to remain calm and heed official instructions to help minimize risk," said New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in a statement on Tuesday.

The South Fork Fire and the Salt Fire were discovered on Monday. The fires, which are burning on tribal land, prompted mandatory evacuations for the entire Village of Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs, a two-hour drive southeast of Albuquerque.

The cost of the damage done by the fires is unknown, according to USA TODAY's data .

By early Monday evening, the flames damaged multiple structures, states  the New Mexico Forestry Division , but how many remains unknown.

"My administration is in close contact with state, tribal and federal officials about the status of these fast-moving fires, and we are quickly deploying as many resources as possible to protect people and property," said Grisham.

The following areas are under mandatory evacuation orders, states the Village of Ruidoso's website:

The Village of Ruidoso is demanding people leave immediately.

"Please do not try to gather belongings or protect your home - GO NOW," the Village of Ruidoso said in a post on X .

What streets in Ruidoso are closed?

The following roads and highways are closed to traffic, said the village in another tweet :

• Highway 70 closed from Highway 244 to the east Reservation line.
• Highway 48 is closed from Alpine Village to State Highway 220.
• State police closed Carrizo Canyon Road to all traffic.

"The evacuation route is via Highway 70 and out towards Roswell," states the city's website.

The following locations are open to people evacuating, according to multiple tweets from the village:

• ENMU-Roswell gym : The Red Cross set up an emergency shelter for evacuees. If it's full, Godfrey Athletic Center is a secondary option.
• Lea County Fairgrounds : The location has Stables and RV hookups, but the village asks that people contact Fairgrounds Director Wyatt Duncan at 575-333-0252.

Where will the Celtics championship parade travel? See the route map.

The Boston Celtics are once again NBA champions , and the storied duck boat parade is returning to Boston’s streets.

On Friday, the duck boats will ferry the Celtics players, coaches, and staff from TD Garden to Hynes Convention Center beginning at 11 a.m. The route will take them from Causeway Street to Boylston Street, passing by City Hall Plaza and the Boston Common.
