REVIEW: Taylor Swift delivers triumphant show in Sydney despite wild downpour

  • 05 Nov 2018

Taylor Swift returned to Sydney on Friday night (2nd, November) at ANZ stadium in a rainstorm to deliver one of her best shows ever.

Yep, only Miss. Swift can deliver in a storm and have 80,000 fans dance in the rain with her.

First up was opening acts, Broods and Charli XCX who kickstarted the stadium party before the weather took a dive.

After a near-hour delay due to an electrical storm, Taylor finally made her grand entrance.

Opening with the energetic “Ready For It?...’ fans knew they were in for an epic pop show.

Just like the album, Swift is darker and edgier this time around. From the snake theme to the more risque costumes, dark visuals and spooky props - everything has changed.

As her ultimate revenge anthem "Look What You Made Me Do" says "The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now".

reputation tour sydney setlist

It’s not all dark though with Swift sprinkling some of her light-hearted tunes throughout. This included a rainbow-lit performance of “Shake It Off”, a throwback to her catchy anthem “22” along with the more happier tunes on Reputation with “Delicate”, “Gorgeous” and closing banger “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”.

Unfortunately, Sydney fans although missed out an acoustic arrangement of “Dancing With Our Hands Ties” due to the storm delay.

A stand-out moment that will forever remain with fans is when Swift performs the menacing “I Did Something Bad”. Her vocals are highlighted here along with her ability to provide an exhilarating theatre-esque performance. What a woman!

Verdict: Taylor Swift never fails to amaze and the 'Reputation Stadium Tour' is no exception. In fact, it will go down as one of her most memorable shows down under with its robust production and added element of Mother Nature.

Taylor Swift Stage Setup

reputation tour sydney setlist

Before we get into the Taylor Swift setlist, check out this awesome shot of Taylor’s tour stage setup. A huge main stage with two big catwalks sits on one end of the tour. Complimenting them are two B-stages at either far end of each stage. We’ll tell you which songs Taylor Swift performs on each B-stage as well!

Giant screen panels on the main stage move up, down, left, and right. Sometimes, they move to reveal Taylor’s band perched atop a large platform.

Much of the artwork on the video panels have a snake theme, an alias that Taylor has taken full-on after being called a snake by Kim Kardashian on social media a few years ago. Mixed in with the snake theme are images of newspaper headlines, scrolls, and other breaking headlines that have followed Taylor Swift around with her over the past few years.

Taylor Swift Setlist Breakdown

Taylor Swift’s tour is opened by performances by Camila Cabello and Charli XCX.  UPDATE: Camila Cabello has now pulled out of tour dates after being diagnosed with exhaustion on May 22nd.  After the openers are complete, the crew puts on the final touches and at approximately 8:45pm local time, the lights go dark.

The concert begins with a movie trailer style video about the media and their portrayal of Taylor. It features the background music of “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett. It shows the media turning on Taylor Swift and after a split second of silence, a ghost-like “reputation” sounds out followed by the trademark opening notes of her intro:

reputation tour sydney setlist

… Ready For It

The Taylor Swift setlist intro is the opening track from her latest album, Reputation. It is perfectly adapted for the big stadium sound. Taylor owns the stage with her backup dancers, lights, fireworks and futuristic snake-themed display on all of the video boards. She wears a black bodysuit complete with hood. It’s her most mature sound and look yet and a good tease of how the entire show will be laid out.

I Did Something Bad

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sticking with her latest album, Taylor rattles through two more hits. Something Bad is a boom bap brag track about her flings, while Gorgeous brings her back down to earth. It is the fourth single released from her album and is an electro-pop radio hit.

You Belong to Me

The next three songs are performed in a medley style. Love Story and Belong dip back into older Taylor Swift setlist packages and are just a short tease of the old Taylor.

Look What You Made Me Do

Taylor’s lead single off her Reputation album is placed in the front end of her tour setlist. Right before the song, a brief video interlude plays on the screen to introduce the song. Giant three story cobra snakes fill up the video boards behind a real cobra snake in the middle of the stage.

Those people who didn’t enjoy it on the radio will be glad to hear that it sounds perfect in a live stadium venue. The snake effect and pictures are full-on here, reminiscent of her accompanied music video for the song. The infamous “Taylor can’t come to the phone right now” line is played out on the video boards courtesy of a Tiffany Haddish cameo that fans will enjoy.

After the song, Taylor Swift talks to the crowd. She talks about the break between her last and current album and how she spent some time figuring herself out.

reputation tour sydney setlist

End Game is performed without Future or Ed Sheeran as expected and feels short in the overall show. Delicate is Taylor’s sixth and current single from her album and features a vocal introduction from Taylor:

“One thing every single person in this stadium has in common is that every single one of us is sort of pining away for a sense of connection to someone else. There is something that happens in your brain and your heart when someone just says, ‘Yes, I understand how you feel.’ … Relationships – it’s just delicate , you know?”

During Delicate, Taylor Swift gets into a golden basket that lifts onto a wire and carries Taylor Swift through the crowd as she sings the song. Taylor lands onto a side stage where she performs the next song.

Shake It Off (with Charli XCX and Camila Cabello)

reputation tour sydney setlist

Taylor Swift’s tour openers join her in dancing to Shake It Off, from her last album. At the end of the song, confetti cannons explode into the crowd, hovering confetti into the air for a long time.

Dancing With Our Hands Tied (Acoustic)

Random song (acoustic).

After Charli and Camila leave the stage, Taylor is handed a guitar for a quick acoustic set on the side stage while her band gets a break.

Dancing With Our Hands Tied is performed every night, followed by a random song of Taylor’s choosing. Some of the songs that have been selected so far in the tour include All Too Well, Wildest Dreams, and The Best Day.

After her random song, Taylor dashes over to the second B-stage (pictured above) for some interaction with fans on that side of the stadium.

Blank Space

Bad blood / should’ve said no.

reputation tour sydney setlist

Picking up energy again in the Taylor Swift setlist, she sings three favorites from her 1989 album. The small gap between Blank Space and Dress allows for a quick wardrobe change that doesn’t interfere with the show’s production at all.

After that, she works in a small snippet of “Should’ve Said No” while a giant snake skeleton carries her back over to the main stage.

Special Guests

For select shows on the tour, this is the spot where Taylor Swift brings out special guests to perform with her. Some of the guests on the first shows of the Taylor Swift Reputation tour were Shawn Mendes and Selena Gomez. Usually, they sing one or two of their songs with Taylor Swift playing hype women alongside them.

Don’t Blame Me

New years day (piano), long live (piano).

reputation tour sydney setlist

Next, Taylor Swift jumps onto her piano for a two song performance. Between songs, she takes a breather to talk to the crowd and offer some of her perspective.

This part of the Taylor Swift setlist really shows off how diverse her talent is. It is the last slow break of the show before the grand finale.

Getaway Car

Call it what you want, we are never.. (getting back together) (partial).

By now, the Taylor Swift concert is in full party mode. During “Call It”, a ton of real news headlines involving Taylor Swift engulf the video screens. “We Are Never”, the lead single off her 2012 Red album is cut short and feels rushed in her playlist.

During these three songs and the finale to come, there are more fireworks mixed into the show than before.

This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

reputation tour sydney setlist

The last song of the Taylor Swift setlist is not her most known, but is a perfect fit for her stadium show. Lyrics are simple enough that even the most casual of fan can scream along.

Following the conclusion of the song, Taylor quickly thanks the fans and then leaves the stage. There is no encore performance. At the end of the show, the video screen reads:

“And in the death of her reputation, she felt truly alive.”

reputation tour sydney setlist

The Taylor Swift Reputation tour truly feels like a live spectacle. Featuring dancing, acrobatics, lights, props, and costume changes, it feels like a mini Cirque show. Taylor has done a great job adopting the show for the big stadiums, so much that a smaller venue would not feel right.

Netflix original [ ]

On December 13, 2018, Taylor thanked everyone for her birthday wishes on Instagram and also announced that there was going to be a tour movie for the Reputation Stadium Tour that would be released on New Year's Eve, titled Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour . It was filmed at the last Dallas/Arlington show, which was the final US leg date. It featured the surprise song " All Too Well ".

Taylor Swift designed her own stage, complete with an elevator, and a rapid changing room for her eight costumes.

The main screen was 110 feet tall and and made of 12 columns and 1,5OO LED tiles that split into 49 individual screens that moved depending on the song. The stage design is an X shape and it also features a B & C Stage that Taylor accessed with the floating constellation and snake gondolas during " Delicate " and the " Bad Blood "/" Should've Said No " mashup. The band played right behind the main screen and during certain parts of the show, the screen opened and the audience could see them.

During " Look What You Made Me Do ", there was a giant inflatable snake named Karyn on the stage as well as smaller inflatable snakes on the B & C Stage and for the show encore, a water fountain was installed on stage. There were also fire, smoke and fireworks effects throughout the show from the stage. The LED bracelets distributed to the attendees were interactive with the songs and stage visuals.

by Jim Allen on March 5, 2024

in Concerts / Events , Extras

The Reputation Stadium Tour, Taylor Swift’s first all-stadium venture, represents a significant chapter in her illustrious career, showcasing her evolution from a small-town girl to an international icon.

This ambitious project not only highlighted Swift’s musical genius but also redefined the contours of live music entertainment . Commencing on May 8, 2018, in Glendale, Arizona, the tour embarked on an unforgettable journey that left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions.

The Genesis of a Superstar: Early Years in Reading, Pennsylvania

Taylor Swift’s journey to stardom began in Reading, Pennsylvania, where she was born and raised. From an early age, Swift displayed an uncanny knack for storytelling and melody, crafting songs that resonated with her personal experiences and aspirations. This foundation in Reading laid the groundwork for her meteoric rise, imbuing her music with authenticity and emotional depth that would become her signature.

Embarking on the Stadium Saga

The Reputation Stadium Tour marked a monumental shift in Swift’s live performance strategy. Transitioning from arenas to stadiums, Swift undertook a bold step that few artists could dream of, let alone achieve. This move was not just about the scale of the venues but also about creating a more immersive and impactful experience for fans. It was a testament to Swift’s draw as a global superstar and her ability to connect with audiences on a massive scale.

The Inaugural Show in Glendale: A Night to Remember

On May 8, 2018, the city of Glendale, Arizona, witnessed the inception of the Reputation Stadium Tour, a concert that set the tone for what was to become an epic journey across stadiums. This first show was a spectacle of lights, energy, and music, blending Swift’s new songs with her classics, and setting the stage for a tour that would be remembered for its grandeur and artistic integrity.

Paying Homage to Pennsylvania Roots: Lincoln Financial Field Performance

As Taylor Swift took her Reputation Stadium Tour across the nation, she not only showcased her musical prowess but also paid homage to her Pennsylvania roots, performing in iconic stadiums that are landmarks in the sports world.

For instance, her concert at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field was not just a musical event but a gathering place for local fans who share a love for both Swift’s artistry and the spirited competition found in sports.

This blending of music and sports culture offers a nod to the common ground shared by concert-goers and sports betting and casino enthusiasts in Pennsylvania, who revel in the excitement of a well-played game and a well-performed concert alike.

The Artistry of Live Performances: A Blend of Music and Spectacle

Katy Perry’s shock move at Taylor Swift Sydney concert is ‘too much’

There was pandemonium before Taylor Swift’s first Sydney show even started - but the night’s wildest moment came during one infamous song.

Sydney was in its emergency poncho era on Friday night as storms threatened to scupper Taylor Swift’s first concert in the city in six years.

In the end, the only casualty of the wet weather was poor Sabrina Carpenter, who found her opening set nixed at the last minute so Swift’s mammoth show could still run close to schedule.

And in the minutes before Swift took to the stage, pandemonium swept the stadium as a cavalcade of A-list celebs took their spots in a separate VIP section on the venue’s floor.

There was director Baz Luhrmann, actor Toni Collette, celeb couple Taika Waititi and Rita Ora, Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce – and there, between them all, was Katy Perry.

Katy Perry in the VIP section at Taylor Swift's Sydney concert.

Those who’d missed the news earlier on Friday of Perry’s top-secret arrival into Sydney for a private gig this weekend couldn’t quite believe their eyes. Katy Perry? What’s she doing here?

“Not to be dramatic but Katy Perry being at the Eras Tour in Sydney is too much pop legendness to handle in one night,” one fan cried on Twitter.

It was a truly wild sighting but more importantly, didn’t these two used to have … beef?

In fact, Perry’s surprise appearance at the concert gave Sydney a genuine pop cultural moment late in the show: Swift performed her caustic 2015 diss track Bad Blood as its alleged subject watched on. I was seated several rows in front of Perry, and of course I snuck a glance: Yes, she was bopping along.

Perry also took to Instagram with a video of herself reacting to the dis track, in which she pulls a shocked face before mouthing the lyrics.

The singer also shared sweet selfie alongside Swift which was taken pre-show, proving there’s now nothing but mad love between the A-list pair.

No bad blood here: Katy and Taylor at the Eras Tour Sydney concert.

The celeb-spotting was just one dazzling element of a show that was big on spectacle.

As Swiftmania gripped the country over the past few weeks, several outlets have pointed out Swift’s humble beginnings in this country, compared to her current pop megastar status.

She first performed in Australia at a 2009 Country Music Festival in Thredbo, a comparatively tiny gig that saw the then-upstart country star sing for just a few hundred people.

Yes, she’s come a long way since then – but the same could be said of Swift since her last visit to our shores, too. Swift was last here in late 2018, performing four shows around the country for the Reputation world tour.

Since then, she’s gone from huge pop star to inescapable pop cultural force: Four studio albums – with a fifth to follow in April – along with four “Taylor’s Version” re-releases of her previous works. As she told the crowd in Sydney, her hobby during Covid was making “as many albums as humanly possible”. The result? The general population has been pummelled into submission. Even if you’re not a Swift fan, at this point, you really can’t escape her.

Fans got pelted with rain on the way in – but miraculously, the rain held off during the show. Picture: DAVID GRAY / AFP

For fans who’ve followed her whole career, The Eras tour is an almost overwhelming prospect: An exhaustive journey throughout her entire musical career to date.

I’ll admit that when the tour was first announced, I was a little disappointed at the prospect: Her lockdown albums folklore and evermore contained some of her best-ever music; couldn’t they get their time in the sun instead of a greatest hits show? I needn’t have worried. Songs from those two albums get about a dozen spots on the Eras setlist.

Swift’s show is a three-and-a-half hour spectacular. Picture: Don Arnold/TAS24

And that still doesn’t even equate to a third of the show, as Swift spends almost three-and-a-half hours covering hits and fan favourites from almost every album to date.

Swift’s fanbase is so huge, so voracious, that just about any song of hers could qualify as a greatest hit nowadays (case in point: Cruel Summer , a 2019 album track that somehow, inexplicably became a huge global hit over the past six months).

Still, it’s a brave choice to open the show with the stunning Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince , a moody, Lana Del Rey-indebted album track.

From then on, the setlist is perfectly crafted, Swift wisely eschewing a chronological run through her hits to give the mammoth show the peaks and troughs it requires.

Taylor Swift hangs with Taika Waititi and Rita Ora backstage.

She knows a dozen songs from the largely acoustic folklore and evermore back to back would leave some heading for the bar; so the two records are separated by some of her most bombastic moments, like the pounding … Ready For It? and Don’t Blame Me from reputation . When the smaller Swift-and-guitar moments do come, they bring welcome moments of intimacy to the massive stadium setting.

And her generosity as a performer - a 45-song setlist! - extends to her opening act: Declaring the tough call to cut Carpenter’s set a “crime against Sydney,” she invited her opener on stage late in the concert to perform a sweet, piano duet together.

Such is her work rate that Swift will have another 70-odd shows of the Eras tour to perform after her next album, The Tortured Poets Department , drops in April.

Will this three-and-a-half hour show then stretch to four, as she adds new tracks from her eleventh studio album? At this point, you wouldn’t put it past her.

Taylor Swift’s Eras tour continues Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Accor Stadium. All shows are completely sold out.

Taylor Swift writes of being “shattered” during her Eras Tour in one of the songs on her latest headline-making album.

Country singer Luke Bryan took a mighty fall at his recent show, appearing to slip on a fan’s belonging that wound up onstage.

This is savage. One of the biggest rappers of the 21st century just performed to a near-empty arena meant to house 10,000 screaming fans.

Taylor Swift's Reputation Tour: See Full Setlist After Opening Night

Singer Taylor Swift revealed the full setlist for her Reputation Stadium Tour upon launching it in Glendale, Arizona, on Tuesday.

The Reputation Stadium Tour is the "Gorgeous" songstress's first lineup of concerts since The 1989 World Tour in 2015. Aside from Glendale, Swift is expected to visit Chicago, Atlanta and Pittsburgh, among other cities globally.

Swift, 28, performed 24 of her biggest tracks in Glendale on Tuesday including past songs such as "You Belong With Me" and present hits such as "End Game."

Charli XCX and Fifth Harmony alum Camila Cabello performed ahead of Swift. Her openers later joined her onstage to sing "Shake It Off." Swift additionally surprised attendees with a pre-recorded cameo featuring comedic actress Tiffany Haddish in "Look What You Made Me Do." However, before Swift sang "Long Live," audience members noticed that she seemingly made mention of her feud with Kim Kardashian from 2016.

"A couple of years ago, someone called me a 'snake' on social media, and it caught on," Swift began . "I went through some really low times for a while because of it. I went through some times when I didn't know if I was gonna get to do this anymore.

"If someone uses name-calling to bully you on social media, and even if a lot of people jump on board with it, that doesn't have to beat you. It can strengthen you instead," she added.

Swift's first-ever stadium tour is in promotion of her sixth studio album, Reputation . In March, the album—which sees Swift completely abandoning her seemingly good-girl roots—sold more than 2 million units in the United States, Forbes reported. Swift's Reputation was the first album to accomplish this since Adele's 25 in 2015. Reputation and Ed Sheeran's Divide were the only two albums to reach 1 million units in 2017.

For those preparing to see Swift during her Reputation Stadium Tour, here's a sneak peek of the full setlist:

9. "King Of My Heart"

10. "Delicate"

All The Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Has Performed On Her "Reputation" Tour, And All The Ones She Needs To Sing

The B in B-stage actually stands for Blessed.

Ellie Bate

BuzzFeed Staff

In case you didn't know, the Queen of my Heart (otherwise known as Taylor Alison Swift) is currently living her best life on her Reputation Stadium Tour , and at every show she does an acoustic performance of a surprise song from her back catalog.

Without further ado, here are the surprise songs she's performed on her tour so far, and some others i think she ~should~ perform in my 100% expert opinion:.

Oh, and scroll all the way down for a handy playlist...

✨ THE SURPRISE SONGS SO FAR ✨

1. "all too well".

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Glendale, AZ, Pasadena, CA, and Arlington, TX

Taylor has performed "All Too Well" as a surprise song three times because she knows her own talent and she likes to play with our feelings. I was there for the Pasadena show and I spent the entire five minutes sobbing with my face in my hands because that's the power of "All Too Well".

2. "Wildest Dreams"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Santa Clara, CA, Philadelphia, PA, and Tokyo, Japan

This was a regular B-stage surprise song in Santa Clara, but then when her flying sparkly basket broke in Philadelphia, she performed it a capella while flying in the giant snake skeleton. Queen of crisis management!

3. "The Best Day"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Santa Clara, CA

She sang this on Mother's Day and honestly, just punch me in the face, I have too many feelings.

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Pasadena, CA

Before she sang this, Taylor was like, "I was trying to think of what song to play at the Rose Bowl, and I just went, 'Well, roses are red...'" Her mind!

5. "Holy Ground"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Seattle, WA

Probably the second best song Taylor Swift has ever written and I am bitter that I wasn't there to see her sing it.

6. "Teardrops On My Guitar"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Denver, CO

We love a classic!

7. "Our Song"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Chicago, IL and Philadephia, PA

Clearly Taylor was on a ~let's play songs from the debut album~ kick during this part of the tour, and I'm not complaining at all. She also sang this a capella during the sparkly basket malfunction.

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Chicago, IL, Foxborough, MA, and Sydney, Australia

Squad member Martha Hunt suggested this one for the Chicago show, and obviously, Taylor granted her wishes, because she is a great friend.

9. "I Knew You Were Trouble"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Manchester, UK and Perth, Australia

Before she sang this in Manchester, Taylor was like, "Even if you don't know the words, it's easy to remember this bit before the chorus". I don't know anyone who doesn't know the words to "I Knew You Were Trouble", but Taylor is just humble like that!!!

10. "I Don't Wanna Live Forever"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Manchester, UK

A lowkey bop/collaboration with Zayn that they recorded for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack. Oooh!

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Dublin, IE

The only negative thing I have to say about this is that she didn't replace the green guitar with a green banjo.

12. "How You Get The Girl"

reputation tour sydney setlist

This song invented wedding vows.

13. "So It Goes..."

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: London, UK

So, this is the only song from Reputation that didn't make it to the regular setlist, but then Taylor sang it as the surprise song in London, and since then she's sang it a few times in place of "Dancing With Our Hands Tied". No shade to "So It Goes...", but that's not what "DWOHT" deserves.

14. "Fifteen"

reputation tour sydney setlist

The fifteenth show of the tour, of course!!! We love a mathematician!

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Louisville, KY

I'm not going to talk too much about this one because thinking about the Speak Now Tour makes me emo .

16. "Sparks Fly"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Columbus, OH

Again, one of the best songs Taylor has ever written and probably deserved to be on the regular setlist but it's fine I guess!!!

17. "State of Grace"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Washington, DC

Taylor really decided to incinerate my wig when she sang "Sparks Fly" and then "State Of Grace" one after the other.

18. "Haunted"

reputation tour sydney setlist

If my wig wasn't already incinerated after she performed "State of Grace", it for sure is now!!! "Haunted" goes off!

19. "Never Grow Up"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Philadelphia, PA

Taylor sang "Never Grow Up" in Philadelphia after spending the day at her childhood home , which is adorable. It was also my birthday and honestly, that just makes me want to cry.

20. "Treacherous"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Philadelphia was truly blessed to get "Treacherous".

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Cleveland, OH

I really thought Taylor was going to sing "Babe" when I saw her in Manchester because it was the day before the music video came out, but she sang it in Cleveland instead, and I can't pretend I'm not upset about it.

22. "Welcome To New York"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: East Rutherford, NJ

This was the first show in New-York-but-technically-New-Jersey and if she hadn't performed "Welcome To New York" the world probably would've imploded.

23. "Fearless"

reputation tour sydney setlist

The second show in NJ was a rain show, and we all know how much Taylor stans rain . Taylor singing "with you I'd dance in a storm in my best dress, fearless" in the middle of a rainstorm was honestly one of the most iconic moments of the tour so far.

24. "Enchanted"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Truly a classic. I can't believe Taylor didn't sing it earlier in the tour.

25. "Change"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Foxborough, MA

This song always makes me super emo because it's basically the "Long Live" of the Fearless era, and I stan both of those things hard.

reputation tour sydney setlist

"Mine"'s younger sister who her parents (me) lowkey like more.

27. "Out Of The Woods"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Toronto, ON and Auckland, NZ

We've known this was coming for a while, I'm just surprised it took this long.

28. "Come Back... Be Here"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Toronto, ON

Taylor allegedly promised a fan in a meet and greet that she'd sing this as one of the surprise songs but I didn't want to get my hopes up enough to believe her. And then she DID IT.

29. "A Place In This World"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Pittsburgh, PA

I honestly never even considered that we'd get to hear this song live in the year 2018 because it's 12 years old and everyone pays it dust. We love a queen who recognises her own talent!

30. "This Love"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Atlanta, GA

The softest song on 1989 said hi in Atlanta.

31. "The Lucky One"

reputation tour sydney setlist

This song embodies the message of the Reputation era so much that I'm just surprised it took this long for it to pop up as a surprise song.

32. "Invisible"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Tampa, FL

I never thought we'd get to hear Taylor sing this song in 2018 but she performed it at the request of a fan who told her listening to the song had helped him before he came out. You think I'm emo? You got that right!

33. "Breathe"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Miami, FL

This is another song that Taylor has never performed live before, but she's really blessing our hearts and souls this tour. "The Moment I Knew" still has a chance!

34. "Better Man"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Nashville, TN

It was basically guaranteed that Taylor would sing one of her more country songs in Nashville, and she didn't disappoint, blessing us all with a performance of Little Big Town's "Better Man" (which she wrote, duh).

35. " Tim McGraw "

reputation tour sydney setlist

If any show was going to get more than one surprise song, it was gonna be Nashville. "Tim McGraw" was Taylor's first ever single and not only did she sing a piano version, but she brought out the actual real-life Tim McGraw and Faith Hill to sing it with her. That's a glow up!!!!!!!

36. "Jump Then Fall"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Detroit, MI

It's 2018 and Taylor Swift is singing songs from the Fearless Platinum Edition. Finally the attention it deserves!

37. "Begin Again"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Minneapolis, MN

This is a soft song about letting go of the people who've hurt you in the past and allowing new people into your life, and it's exactly what Taylor deserves this era.

38. "Tied Together With A Smile"

reputation tour sydney setlist

If you haven't listened to this song from Taylor's debut album, you have to. She released it when she was sixteen, and the lyrics still make me cry at age 24.

39. "The Story Of Us"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Kansas City, MO

According to Taylor herself, she hasn't played this song since the Speak Now Tour, and that is a tragedy.

40. "Forever And Always"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Indianapolis, IN

Joe Jonas is shaking.

41. "Hey Stephen"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: St Louis, MO

Fearless is really getting her moment and I couldn't be more proud of her.

42. "Speak Now"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: New Orleans, LA

"Horrified looks from everyone in the room but I'm only looking at you" is actually about me screaming so loud at a Taylor Swift concert that I embarrass myself in front of everyone.

43. "Wonderland"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Houston, TX

Taylor waited until the very end of the tour's US leg to bring out one of the best songs on 1989 and it didn't disappoint.

44. "White Horse"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Arlington, TX

This is one of the saddest songs Taylor's written and her singing it in 2018 with a smile on her face really proved she's doing better than she ever was.

45. "I'm Only Me When I'm With You"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Melbourne, Australia

Taylor hasn't sang this since the Fearless era and she got on that stage and sang it on a Friday night beneath the stars as if I was going to be calm about it.

46. "Starlight"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Brisbane, Australia

I thought I was dreaming impossible things when I hoped for "Starlight" on the B-stage, but it turns out Taylor Swift can grant wishes!!!

47. "I Know Places"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Sang in: Tokyo, Japan

Taylor waited until the end of the tour to break out "I Know Places" and as much as I hated waiting for it, it was WORTH IT. Bless you, Taylor.

💖 THE SURPRISE SONGS WE NEED 💖

1. "out of the woods".

reputation tour sydney setlist

Frankly, I'm shocked that she hasn't performed this one yet. It has to be coming soon.

UPDATE: Taylor sang this in Toronto, ON

2. "The Story Of Us"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Basically just because it's a bop.

UPDATE: Taylor sang this in Kansas City, MO

3. "Better Man"

reputation tour sydney setlist

I know this is technically a Little Big Town song, but Taylor wrote it, and if she can sing "Babe" then she can sing this. Plus, I need her to bless my ears with an acoustic guitar version again.

UPDATE: Taylor sang this in Nashville, TN

reputation tour sydney setlist

Taylor already sang a little bit of "Clean" during the Reputation Tour, just because it was raining and she felt like it, but we will only see real justice once it's performed in full on the B-stage.

5. "Last Kiss"

reputation tour sydney setlist

I know Taylor is in a happy place right now and is therefore pretty much only singing happy songs (except "All Too Well" lol), but I need her to tear my heart out with "Last Kiss" at least once this tour.

6. "The Moment I Knew"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Apparently a fan in the Rep Room asked Taylor to perform this and she said no one would know the words to sing along, and I hate that because "The Moment I Knew" is an underrated classic. She needs to sing it live at least ONCE. Please, Taylor.

7. "Stay Beautiful"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Aside from the snakes, Taylor is all about being happy this era, and "Stay Beautiful" is basically the ultimate happy bop. So I'm gonna need her to sing it!

8. "The Other Side Of The Door"

reputation tour sydney setlist

We ALL deserve to hear this bridge performed live at least once.

9. "I Know Places"

reputation tour sydney setlist

I'm sorry, but this song encompasses the whole Rep era like no other, and yet we haven't seen a performance of it yet??? It's about being happily in love with a person and hiding your relationship from the media/the public, which, if you read it backwards, spells REPUTATION .

UPDATE: Taylor sang this in Tokyo, Japan

reputation tour sydney setlist

Again, we love a cute song about being in love with someone and not caring what anyone thinks about it, and we also love hearing them performed acoustically on the B-stage!

UPDATE: Taylor sang this in Foxborough, MA

11. "Picture To Burn"

reputation tour sydney setlist

I just want her to do the country accent again.

12. "I Wish You Would"

reputation tour sydney setlist

This is one of my favourite songs on 1989 so don't come for me. I love it and I want to hear it acoustic, because the lyrics are lowkey sad, and the production kind of masks that.

13. "New Romantics"

reputation tour sydney setlist

I don't know why she hasn't performed this one yet! It's coming! Watch this space!

14. "The Lucky One"

reputation tour sydney setlist

Again, this song completely encapsulates the message of this era – that Taylor is happier with her private life staying private. Also I just want more Red love.

UPDATE: Taylor sang this in Atlanta, GA

I want a recreation of the 1989 tour, where she got the audience to echo the chorus back to her, because that was beautiful.

16. "Mary's Song (Oh My My My)"

I think the quality of the above image proves we need an updated performance of this adorable song from Taylor's debut album.

17. "Starlight"

I dream impossible things and those things are seeing Taylor perform "Starlight" on the Reputation Stadium Tour.

18. "All You Had To Do Was Stay"

This is one of 1989 's Holy Trinity of Bops (the other two are "I Wish You Would" and "How You Get The Girl", in case you were curious), and I think she needs to honour that.

19. "Cold As You"

Listen, Taylor KNOWS how much we all stan this song. I don't want to bring down her happy vibe, but I need her to sing "Cold As You" so I have an updated version to listen to when I'm in my feelings.

20. "Breathe"

This song is criminally underrated by Taylor herself. It's time to put that right.

23. "Everything Has Changed"

All I knew this morning when I woke, was I wanted Taylor to perform "Everything Has Changed" on the B-stage. She doesn't even need to invite Ed Sheeran as a special guest. I'm happy either way.

33 Of The Best, Worst, And Most Underrated Taylor Swift Songs According To Me

Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department is here, but it could be a logistical nightmare for the Eras Tour

A black and white photo of Swift holding up The Tortured Poets Department, and peering through the transparent vinyl

Get ready for another Taylor Swift era.

The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) is the superstar's 11th studio album and is being released around the world today.

It'll be dropping the second the clock hits midnight on the east coast of America, which will be this afternoon in Australia.

  • 2pm AEST : ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria
  • 1:30pm ACST : Northern Territory and South Australia
  • 12pm AWST : Western Australia

So far, we know the album is a whopping 16 songs (not including bonus vinyl tracks) and features multiple collaborations, including with Florence + The Machine.

We also know the first single will be Fortnight featuring Post Malone, with a music video dropping tomorrow morning as well.

Despite no singles being released in its lead up, clues point to TTPD seemingly being inspired by the five stages of grief : denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Plus, many fans have speculated that the album title is a reference to the name of a group chat Swift's ex was part of – The Tortured Man Club.

And while The Tortured Poets Department could very well set new streaming records, it also poses a logistical nightmare for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: how do you include yet another album into a show that is over three hours long?

Below, two ABC reporters and Swifties weigh up the likelihood of how the megastar might adapt her sell-out tour when it recommences in Europe next month.

We could lose some songs from every era to make room

Jessica : This seems like the most likely course of action. To put things into perspective, the Eras Tour includes songs from nine albums, but their airtime varies wildly. Lover, Folklore and Midnights have at least six songs, while Speak Now gets just two. So this might be a chance to balance things out?

Georgie : It would make the most sense to me. I can't imagine a tour that doesn't spend at least some time on the freshest music. But, this is a unique scenario. You have an artist who is essentially doing a greatest hits tour at the age of 34 while she is still churning out new music.

If she does cut music to make room for Tortured Poets, it will be very divisive. Every fan has their favourite era. But, I think if she was to I would hope she cuts songs she has already toured. You have to remember she put out four (now five) albums since her last tour and I imagine it would make the most sense for her to give more air time to Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights and TTPD.

Jessica : If you were in charge of Taylor Swift's setlist, which songs would you cull? I'd ditch The Archer from the Lover era so it ends with, well, Lover. I'd be ruthless and cut most of the songs from the Red era as nothing compares to All Too Well (10 Minute Version). But keep the Reputation portion as is! It's perfect.

What if smaller eras, like Fearless and Speak Now, got cut altogether?

Taylor Swift performs in a glittering lavender ballgown.

Jessica : I love chaos so I would not bat an eye if Taylor Swift dropped the entire Speak Now era from her tour. (But Enchanted is such a core memory for a lot of fans.) I know this might be a wild concept but there's not one song from her self-titled debut album in the Eras Tour (justice for Our Song!), so make of that what you will.

Georgie : I think this will cause a major generational divide. The beautiful part about the Eras Tour is you have fans new and old coming together. Taylor has been making music since 2009 and the Eras Tour has been a chance for people in their twenties and thirties to dress up in glitter and be teenagers again while sharing the new music with teenagers today. I'm a folklore girl through and through so I am hoping if any eras get sacrificed it's the older ones. But I can't lie, it's pretty special to belt out Love Story with thousands of other people.

Could we lose the two surprise songs for a few Tortured Poets hits?

Georgie : Controversial opinion but I would be ok with this. Although, take this as you want because I have experienced the Eras Tour. But the section is a gamble anyway. You never know what she's going to play and someone is always disappointed or their top pick is played another night. If you cut this section, no-one gets hurt. Maybe she subs it out for three best songs from TTPD?

Jessica : I missed out on tickets for the Eras Tour altogether so I was taken aback seeing fans who did score tickets complaining about which night got "better" surprise songs. You can't please everyone! I agree, this would level the playing field and take the comparison factor out of the tour… but I wonder if that uniqueness is a marketing factor as some super fans attend multiple concerts in the same city.

Sabrina and Taylor smile at each other on stage at a piano that’s decorated with painted flowers

Imagine if she just… didn't play her new album

Georgie : Don't say it or it might come true!

Jessica : I think this would be the riskiest option. Imagine the disappointment on the first night when the tour recommences in Paris on May 9. But some fans, especially in America, who witnessed the Eras Tour last year before this album was announced feel it's unfair if other countries get a different experience. But that's what happens with the passage of time!

Georgie : I see your point but you have to remember we're in an age where many people have watched the Eras Tour happen through TikTok and the cinema release. So is it really missing out when it's been inescapable for over a year? This could be a chance for the people who have waited so long for the Europe leg – who have basically watched the tour on streaming and all over TikTok – to have something unique and worth the cash.

Or she could just include the new album and make the show nearly *four hours* long?

Jessica : I think this option would please the most fans, but I genuinely don't know how she performs for hours on end each night and then travels through different time zones. Oh,  to be a billionaire with a whole team taking care of everything all the time.

Georgie : I don't see this happening. Costs would skyrocket and many stadiums have a noise curfew. That's new costumes, sets and dance routines.

Jessica : But I would eat up new costumes, sets and dance routines! A four-hour concert is outrageous, which makes me think she might very well pick this option. Time will tell.

Georgie : I'm obviously a Swiftie but when I found out about the new album and what that might mean for the tour I just felt… overwhelmed. I'm still processing the release of four albums and two Taylor's Versions in four years. And now she's putting out new music? It's simply too much! The concert is a marathon but if I did have to go to a four-hour show, I'd do it for Ms Swift.

The worst option: Swapping All Too Well (10 Minute Version) for the radio edit to save time

Jessica : Sacrilegious.

Georgie : The people would riot. Jake Gyllenhaal would be thrilled though.

Final thoughts

Jessica : With everything going on in the world, I think this is a fun problem to ponder, and an interesting one for Taylor to tackle. I wish her well in whatever form the Eras Tour takes, because fans are going to have strong opinions either way.

Georgie: I worry that Taylor needs a holiday but, as you said, she's a billionaire now so I think she'll be fine. I hope she tours future albums but I also support her having a rest. Go chill with the cats and Travis. You've danced in high heeled boots for two years.

Will Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Setlist Change After ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Release?

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 001

Taylor Swift ’s The Tortured Poets Department has already captivated the world , leaving her fans to wonder whether any of the new songs will pop up on her Eras Tour setlist.

Swift, 34, kicked off her three-hour concert series in March 2023 in Arizona, soon traversing the United States, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. The shows highlight most of her past albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights . There also is a section dedicated to “surprise songs,” where Swift adds two new acoustic renditions (most recently, mash-ups) to the show.

Swift has been on hiatus since early March, weeks before The Tortured Poets Department dropped on Friday, April 19. The record, her 11th studio album, features 31 songs including “Fortnight,” “So Long, London,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “So High School” and “thanK you aIMee.”

Swift’s fans planning to see Eras later this year — the tour leg kicks off in Paris on Thursday, May 9 — have since taken to social media, curious if they will be able to hear any TTPD live.

“OK listen I NEED Taylor to add ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ to the Eras Tour setlist. … Just that ONE. … PLEASE. … It was MADE for the Eras Tour !!!!!!!!!!” a social media user wrote via X.

Another added, “I am so obsessed with Taylor’s new album idk how to survive the Eras Tour (if I actually go twice I might just drop dead afterwards).”

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 002

Since Eras has sections dedicated to Swift’s previous albums , it is possible that TTPD could get its own mini-set in the lineup. Not all of her preexisting cohorts feature the same amount of songs, so Swift could cut some songs in order to add a time for Tortured Poets additions .

Spotify added further fuel to the fire on Friday as Swifties noticed the streaming platform’s official video for “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” a TTPD track, features footage solely from the Eras Tour.

Breaking Down All of Taylor Swifts Eras Tour Surprise Song Mash Ups and What They Could Mean

Related: Breaking Down All of Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' Surprise Song Mash-Ups

Swift’s musical director David Cook , who has also been featured on several of her past LPs, also hinted that TTPD songs could make an appearance on the tour lineup.

“Not sure how much I can add to the discourse other than this album is really REALLY good. You FEEL it,” Cook wrote via Instagram on Friday, quoting “Loml” with a mind-blown emoji.

According to eagle-eyed Swifties that captured screenshots, Cook also wrote, “Wait until you hear the live versions.” The addition, however, has since been deleted.

Of course, it is also possible that Swift will drop a TTPD single in her surprise song section.

“How will The Tortured Poets Department affect the Eras Tour ? Hopefully only on surprise songs (in a good way),” an X user theorized.

While Swift has yet to address if TTPD will affect her Eras Tour setlist, she’s given fans insight into how she picks song s for the acoustic section.

“This has become my favorite part of the show because it’s become very chaotic and it’s become a challenge for me to think of new things to do for every single city,” Swift told the crowd in Singapore in March. “And hope that I’m doing something that you guys might like. It’s been a blast!”

Per the Grammy winner, she “invented [her] crazy acoustic section,” to be able to play “as many songs” as she could way over the 44 staples at each show. Adding TTPD tracks there seems like an easy way to do just that, if you ask Us.

The Tortured Poets Department is out now and Swift’s Eras Tour resumes on Thursday, May 9.
