Star Trek: Voyager 's first Borg episode in season 3 foreshadowed the introduction of Species 8472. Although the Borg were established as originating from the Delta Quadrant, Voyager 's cast of characters didn't encounter the classic franchise villains until season 3, episode 17, "Unity." Even then, the crew only ran into a disabled cube and a group of ex-Borg living as a cooperative on a nearby planet. Voyager 's first encounter with the Borg in the Delta Quadrant was less than menacing, but "Unity" did provide a setup for the introduction of the Borg's greatest enemy, Species 8472 .

Species 8472 were introduced in Voyager 's season 3 finale, "Scorpion, Part 1." An insectoid race from an alternate dimension called Fluidic Space, Species 8472 proved to be a formidable enemy for not only the Borg but Voyager 's crew as well. They outmatched the Borg in terms of technological capabilities, and their defensive measures made them so deadly that Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) formed the first Federation-Borg alliance to try and defeat them . Although Voyager would eventually come to a somewhat friendly truce with Species 8472, the crew's initial encounters with the race were truly terrifying.

Star Trek: Voyager's beloved characters have returned in Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and especially Star Trek: Prodigy.

Star Trek: Voyager’s First Borg Episode Subtly Foreshadowed Species 8472

"unity" alluded to species 8472's existence.

Although Species 8472 didn't make their first appearance until the end of season 3, one scene in "Unity" set up their future introduction. While speculating about what could have disabled the Borg Cube, B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) delivered an eerie line about the Borg having possibly been defeated " by an enemy even more powerful than they were ." In retrospect, B'Elanna's line is clearly talking about Species 8472 , given that one of their defining characteristics was their ability to defeat the Borg. The foreshadowing in B'Elanna's line was subtle, but its connection to Species 8472 was later confirmed by a member of Voyager 's creative team.

Star Trek: Voyager Producer Brannon Braga Confirmed B’Elanna’s “Unity” Line Set Up Species 8472

In an interview with Star Trek Monthy around the time of "Scorpion's" initial release, Voyager Executive Producer Brannon Braga revealed that the show's creative team had intentionally tied the episode to "Unity" using B'Elanna's line . Braga discussed the fact that "Unity" never made it entirely clear how the abandoned Borg Cube had been disabled, and revealed that Species 8472 had always been meant to be the cause. "Scorpion definitely ties in with an event in Unity but not such that you would have to have seen that episode to understand it. In Unity, we find a disabled cube. Although Voyager has garnered a reputation for badly-used episodic storytelling over the years, clever bits of serialized storytelling like the connection between "Unity" and Species 8472 in "Scorpion" demonstrate that the show sometimes used serialization to its advantage. This is especially clear in an era when all of Voyager can be binge-watched on streaming, allowing for easier recognition of the show's smaller connected moments. Star Trek: Voyager 's subtle hints at future storylines turned out to be innovative touches that were employed well by the creative team.

The fifth entry in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Voyager, is a sci-fi series that sees the crew of the USS Voyager on a long journey back to their home after finding themselves stranded at the far ends of the Milky Way Galaxy. Beyond a doubt Species 8472 represents one of the most highly evolved and advanced life forms outside of the Q continuum. Their weaponry is far and away beyond anything that the Federation has experienced before; their relatively small bioships are more than capable of defeating Borg cubes one on one, while small groups can combine their fire and use it to destroy entire planets in seconds. Species 8472 themselves originate from beyond our dimension. They came into contact with our galaxy when the Borg invaded their space in an attempt to assimilate their biological technology. The attempt failed, and species 8472 (the Borg designation for them) responded by invading our galaxy - apparently intent on utterly eradicating not only the Borg but all other species also.

Sticking with the theme of humanity, Captain Janeway spends a great deal of Voyager's journey teaching Seven of Nine the complexities of becoming human. While the former Borg is often resistant in her learning, one such instance saw her question her mentor's motives and even refuse to follow orders.

Season 4's Prey  saw the Voyager crew cross paths, once again, with a member of Species 8472. This time, however, the creature is injured and vulnerable after being hunted and attacked by the Hirogen. Captain Janeway takes pity on the alien and decides to help send it back to fluidic space. Seven of Nine, on the other hand, is unnerved by it - with Species 8472 being the only true enemy of the Borg. 

Janeway asks Seven to open a quantum singularity for them to send the creature back home. Seven refuses. The captain sees this as an opportunity to teach her protégée another lesson about humanity.

I realise it may be difficult for you to help save this creature's life, but part of becoming human is learning to have compassion for those who are suffering, even when they're your bitter enemies.

She then goes on to tell Seven about an incident when she was a lieutenant "during a Cardassian border conflict." She describes how she was ordered to aid a wounded Cardassian and the reluctance she felt at being asked to risk her life to help someone who would not return the favour. The pride in her revelation that this act meant more to her than the overall victory of their mission, highlights Janeway's moral code and compassion, advising Seven that:

A single act of compassion can put you in touch with your own humanity.

Star Trek Fleet Command (STFC) is an exhilarating video game that invites you to explore star systems, build ships, mine resources, complete missions , join alliances and defeat enemies.

As you progress in the game, you will discover myriad species, one of which is species 8472.

STFC’s update 55, which was released on Tuesday, 6 June 2023, introduced several new features to the game.

The update revealed that the USS Voyager now has an active ability which reveals ships that evade regular sensors, such as the new Species 8472 hostiles.

Species 8472 is a formidable new enemy that emerged in the Delta Quadrant. These foes traveled through the fluidic space through quantum singularities and brought the fight to our dimension.

The species, also known as Formation Armadas, is in selected systems of the Delta Quadrant. They contain several simulations of Starfleet Headquarters used for reconnaissance and acquiring intelligence on Starfleet’s capabilities.

In order to vanquish them, players must know their weaknesses. Each armada has 3 targets and if they are destroyed simultaneously, this will result in the total extermination of the armada.

Only commanders above level 26 can participate in the fight against species 8472.

How to start an attack

Players should remember that they cannot attack species 8472 without Formation Armada Directives, You can acquire directives by completing the daily goals, and you can find additional directives in the “Offers” tab.

Keep in mind that you may have to purchase the additional directives with an in-game currency or with real money. To initiate an attack, players must have 100 Formation Armada Directives, which can take some time to collect.

How many Commanders are required to defeat species 8472?

Three teams, which can be from different STFC Alliances, have to select their top 4 Commanders to participate in the fight against the Formation Armadas, which essentially means that there should be 12 commanders in the fight.

If you are part of the team, remember that communication and coordination are critical to vanquishing the Formation Armadas .

When species 8472 is destroyed, commanders will receive Artifact and Premium Artifact tokens as part of their rewards. These tokens can be used to discover Artifacts in the Artifact Gallery .

In which systems can species 8472 be found?

Species 8472 can be found in selected systems in the Delta Quadrant .

STFC players have to use their Voyager ’s first ability, Advance Sensors, to find the Formation Armada ships. One of the systems in which you can allegedly find species 8472 is Velixys .

Unfortunately, the rest of the systems that feature species 8472 are still unknown. Players are therefore forced to search for enemies using their Voyager .

Als diese Spezies durch die Borg erstmals Zugang in diese Galaxie bekommt, startet sie eine groß angelegte Invasion , um das „Schwache“ aus der Galaxie zu tilgen. Ihr „ Kreuzzug “ kann durch den Einsatz modifizierter Nanosonden vorerst gestoppt werden, jedoch begegnet die Voyager der Spezies 8472 ein weiteres Mal im Jahre 2375 ( VOY : Skorpion, Teil I , Skorpion, Teil II ).
