Situated in a former factory at the top of the Førresfjord, the museum occupies an area of over 2,000 square metres and illustrates numerous aspects of Second World War history. You'll then head to Mount Steinsfjellet Viewpoint which, although only 227 metres above sea level, offers great views of Haugesund and the surroundings.

Your next stop is the Haraldshaugen Monument - a national monument erected in 1872 to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the Battle of Hafrsfjord near Stavanger in 872, when Harald Fairhair united Norway into one kingdom. The King chose Avaldsnes on nearby Karmøy Island for his royal estate, and the monument is erected where he is believed to have been buried.

Haugesund Surroundings

Situated between the Boknafjord, north of Stavanger and the Hardangerfjord and Bergen, Haugesund is the natural "capital" of the region. Haugesund is inseparably linked to the sea and owes its prosperity to the rich herring fisheries dating from the 19th century. Although it did not officially become a town until 1855, its history as a settlement goes back at least to the year 1217, when it was mentioned in the Norse Sagas.

As you drive through the centre of town, you'll pass the pink Town Hall, before continuing towards Haraldshaugen - raised in 1872 as a National Monument commemorating The Battle of Hafrsfjord where King Harald Fairhair won over the chieftains of 29 historic counties and gathered Norway into one kingdom in 872 A.D. The tour then proceeds towards the Steinsfjellet viewpoint - only 227 metres above sea level but offering excellent views of Haugesund and the surrounding area - before continuing on a route that will eventually bring you back to your starting point.

Please note: wheelchair users must be accompanied by a paying helper to provide assistance with getting on and off the coach; wheelchairs must be collapsible/foldable since the coach has neither a ramp nor a lift. Viking History Tour & Copper Museum

This fascinating tour begins with a visit to Vigsnes copper museum. One winter day in 1865 a herring fisherman from Jaeren found some rich copper ore in Vigsnes, and by 1895 this was Northern Europe's largest copper works. The Statue of Liberty in New York is clad with copper from these mines, which eventually closed in 1972.

The museum tells the story of the mining community, with exhibitions illustrating their working methods. The museum is located in picturesque surroundings, with footpaths and an interesting playground for children. After your visit, the tour proceeds to Avalsnes and the Viking farm, situated on a small, forested island. Here you'll find a longhouse, a boathouse for a Viking warship, a roundhouse and several smaller buildings. Outside the farmyard, there are paths through the forest for those looking for peace and tranquility. After the visit here, the tour ends with your return to the port.

Please note: during the visits at the sites guests will be split into groups of max. 25 each guide. Guests needs to negotiate a total of 12 steps at the Copper Museum and walking approx. 800 metres from the parking area at the Viking Village on uneven packed dirt/gravel with a short incline. For these reasons, this tour is considered to be unsuitable for guests with walking difficulties or using a wheelchair.

Whether you're exploring the charming streets of the old town, taking in a performance at the

city's renowned theatre, or simply soaking up the warm and welcoming atmosphere of this fun-filled city, Kristiansand is a place that will capture your heart and leave you with memories to last a lifetime. So come and experience the magic of Kristiansand for yourself - we promise you won't be disappointed!

Setesdal Mineral Park

Norway is famous for its fjords, waterfalls, and towering mountains. On this half-day excursion, we take you into the heart of a mountain to discover minerals and mining equipment in a very special setting. Board the coach at the pier, drive through Kristiansand with its strict right-angled streets and its typical architecture combining wood with modern materials, and reach Setesdal Mineral Park, north of the city.

After an hour drive, you arrive at Hornnes and at the Park. The external section includes stone shops, green parks and sculptures made by Norwegian artists. As you enter the tunnels, heated by using the water from the river outside and made in the shape of mine tunnels, you enter the fascination world of gems.

Enjoy a visual experience of the many exhibitions and stones: amethyst, topaz, rock crystal, only to mention a few; chairs are placed around the various exhibitions for you to relax and admire more than 100 different minerals. A walk around the external park and the drive back to the port concludes your mining experience.

Price per person: Adult £57.00 Child £40.00 (KRS02)

Old Norway and the Fishing Village of Høllen

Leaving Kristiansand, the capital of the South founded in the 17th century by King Christian IV, your first destination is Vest-Agder Open Air Museum. Follow your guide and enter old-time Norway with a display of approx. 30 homes that were relocated to the grounds of the Museum.

Divided into four sections, the Museum gives a good insight into the various districts of the county. During your guided visit, special attention will be given to a variety of old farmhouses from the Setesdal area, as well as the 11 homes taken from Bygaden, the town street in Kristiansand's Kvadraturen district. Board the coach again, leave Kristiansand and reach Søgne, located just outside the town, to visit Søgne Old Church with the interior richly adorned with Renaissance decorations dating from the 17th century, as well as baroque paintings from the 18th century.

A pleasant walk through Høllen follows. Discover this lovely fishing village located at the mouth of the river Søgneelva with its wooden houses lined along the waterfront. Your drive back to the port is along the coastal road with views of idyllic local summerhouses where many Norwegian families spend their vacations.

Please note: the visit to the Open-Air Museum includes walking on gravel path, thresholds, and stairs into the house; a 10-minute walk is required to the upper houses. There are 2 steps to enter the church.

Price per person: Adult £51.00 Child £36.00 (KRS01)

Kristiansand and the Cannon Museum

Combine a little of history with an exploration of Kristiansand on this pleasant 3-hour excursion. With a population of approx. 77.000 inhabitants, Kristiansand is the capital of South Norway. Join us to discover the town founded in the 17th century by King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway.

Discover its architecture with its streets strictly shaped at right angles and take a guided walk through Posebyen, the oldest part of the city, which remained intact after a huge fire devastated much of Kristiansand in 1892. This quarter consists mainly of modest, white-painted, wooden houses built for the working class.

The second leg of the tour sees you board a coach en route to Møvik to visit the Kristiansand Cannon Museum at the Vara Battery. Following the German invasion of Norway in the spring of 1940, construction of many artillery installations began along the coast, including the Vara Battery. A similar installation was constructed in Denmark's Jutland and together they were meant to guard the Skagerak Ocean between the two countries and the shipping lane to Kattegat and the Baltic.

After World War II and into the 1950s, the fort played a significant role in Norwegian coastal defence. The battery is now operated as a military history museum and houses the only completely intact 38-cm gun remaining in the world, the Krupp cannon, one of the largest ever built, weighs 337 tons, and boasts a range of 35 miles.

Price per person: Adult £44.00 Child £31.00 (KRS08)

Setesdal Village Train

All aboard! A leap back in time and a funny experience for both adults and children await you on this half-day tour departing from Kristiansand. The first leg of the tour is by coach, through the streets of the town heading inland through typical scenery, forestland dotted with lakes, small hills, and a few farms.

Continue through the little industrial town of Vennesla and along the Venneslafjord, a freshwater lake, to reach Grovane station where we swap our coach for a vintage train. The Setesdal railway was opened in 1896 linking the town Kristiansand with the Setesdal valley, discontinued in 1962, but luckily partially reopened as a veteran-railroad over 8 km. The railway is powered by a steam engine from 1894 and the trip recreates the special atmosphere of a turn-of-thecentury railway journey.

From Grovane and northwards the narrow-gauge railway runs along the Otra river over bridges and dams, through tunnels and avalanche shelters so keep your camera ready. Our destination is at Røyknes where we board the coach again to make our way back to the port.

Price per person: Adult £86.00 Child £60.00 (KRS03)

Scenic Cruise Along the Coast and Lillesand

The charming small towns around Kristiansand and the coastline dotted with islands make this a favorite holiday spot for Norwegians. Today, we invite you to enjoy a relaxing excursion by coach and boat along the south coast of Norway.

The starting point of the tour is the city of Kristiansand: drive through its centre, pass by Christianholms Fortress and the old town called "Posebyen" where small narrow streets are lined with white painted wooden houses. Continue along the residential areas of Kuholmen and Lund en route to Marvika where you change your coach with a boat.

Take your seat and enjoy a scenic 2-hour sailing along the coast admiring the Varodd Bridge, typical Norwegian summer cottages as well as the lighthouse of Oksøy. Back in Marvika you hop back on the coach for a drive along the coastal road to the little town of Lillesand. This picturesque town on the waterfront is an ideal spot for you to enjoy some time at leisure to browse through the narrow streets with shops, restaurants, and art galleries. Return to Kristiansand and your ship by highway.

Price per person: Adult £69.00 Child £48.00 (KRS04)

What’s the weather like in the Norwegian Fjords?

You might think that weather-wise, the Fjords’ only options are cold, cold and more cold. But actually, they’re pretty mild compared to the likes of Alaska and Greenland. At the same time though, it’s not exactly bikini weather either. It varies a lot by region, so be ready with your layers if you like to stay toastie.

The Norwegian fjords are a stunning natural wonder that offer some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, and the weather between April and September only adds to their beauty, in our opinion this is the best time to travel, with the snow melting and the landscape blooming into life. The temperature during this period is mild, with long sunny days that give you plenty of time to soak up the scenery.

The cool breeze that blows through the fjords is refreshing, and the fresh air is invigorating, making it the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to kayaking, the fjords offer endless opportunities to explore and connect with nature. Whether you're seeking out adventure or simply looking to unwind in a stunning natural setting, the Norwegian fjords are sure to give you everything you want from a cruise holiday.
