Established in 2008 by dubstep producers Chase & Status, MTA records has spent the last few years nurturing a rapidly growing roster of promising electronic producers.

The label has also been responsible for a series of high-profile showcases, where, in their own words, “festival headliners playing as unannounced special guests” has become their hallmark. MTA have now revealed their next event, which is sure to be graced by a number of high profile guests.

As usual with MTA, there are no clues about the lineup, but in the past their events have hosted Skream , Skrillex , Chase & Status , Skepta , Friction , Knife Party , EZ and loads more, so you can bet that this one’s going to be very special indeed. Billed as the biggest lineup MTA have done so far, they’ll be inviting some of the label’s top talent along with a number of very special guests.

Update June 18: While MTA’s all dayer will no longer be happening in the original Hackney location, they’ve made sure that the party can still go ahead at London’s Studio Spaces in E1 from 5pm to 5am.

Sadly, there won’t be any outside music at the new event, but to make up for it there will be free beer and free food for the first hour – who can argue with that eh?

For more information and tickets make sure you head here .

Moscow Metro: The Complete Guide

The Moscow Metro is busy, but easy to use

Robert Schrader

With nearly 7 million riders per day on its 16 lines, the Moscow Metro is the sixth-busiest metro system in the world as of March 2019. Riding the Moscow Metro, however, does not need to be a stressful experience. In fact, it's by far the easiest and most enjoyable way to get around Moscow, especially since many Moscow Metro stations are veritable works of art. Our guide to the public transportation will teach you how to ride the Metro and more.

How to Ride the Moscow Metro

Here is some essential practical information you need to know to easily and seamlessly ride the Moscow Metro.

  • Fares: Moscow Metro fares start at 55 rubles for a one-way ticket, which is good for five days after purchase. You'll pay more if your journey takes you outside of the central Moscow zones of A and B, though this is not the case for most tourists.
  • How to Pay: Cash is the only way to buy a one-way ticket. However, if you have Apple Pay or Samsung Pay, you can tap your phone directly at the ticket gate and enter using NFC technology. You can also use both mobile payments and credit cards to top-up your reloadable Troika card.
  • Routes and Hours: The Moscow Metro has 13 lines that snake and criss-cross the city, plus outer and inner loop lines that string them together, as well as a monorail. The Moscow Metro is open from approximately 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., and trains run with a frequency that can range between 1 and 7 minutes.
  • Service Alerts: Download the official MosMetro app on the AppStore or Google Play .
  • Transfers: Regardless of how you pay to enter the Moscow Metro, you can transfer to any of the core lines plus the Moscow Monorail without passing through an additional ticket gate. If you wish to transfer to bus lines, airport trains or other rail services, paying with Troika or your mobile device might be more convenient.
  • Accessibility: Although Moscow Metro is impressive and modern in many ways, it is not very accessible . Visitors who use wheelchairs should try to avoid the subway and take aboveground transportation instead.

Beautiful Moscow Metro Stations

The Moscow Metro has achieved internet notoriety — and not just because of how busy it is. Several Moscow Metro stations are distractingly beautiful, including:

  • Aviamotornaya: Brilliant gold themed to the flight of Icarus.
  • Komsomolskaya: Bright yellow ceilings and murals chronicling Russia's journey to independence.
  • Mayakovskaya: Art Deco, featuring mosaic ceilings and pink marble floor
  • Park Pobedy: Modern station (built in 2003) with colorful murals; one of the deepest metro stations in the world (276 feet below ground!).
  • Ploschad Revolutsii: Constructed in 1938 at the height of Soviet pride, this station is home to bronze statues that locals still rub for good luck.

Although it's technically legal to take pictures within the Moscow Metro, guards might approach you if you spend too long photographing a particular station, or use professional equipment like a tripod. Be as discreet as possible to avoid an uncomfortable confrontation!

Other Moscow Public Transit

In addition to the (mostly) subterranean transport offered by the Moscow Metro, Russia's capital is home to a number of aboveground transport options. This includes a large network of buses, as well as trams and "trolley buses." While these are all cheaper than the Moscow Metro, they also require some command of Russian to use; the ordinary buses are also subject to sitting in Moscow's terrible traffic.

In terms of payment, your Moscow Metro ticket isn't valid for transit to any other form of transit, though a Troika card will allow you to do so seamlessly. Likewise, while the various Aeroexpress trains (between Sheremetyevo Airport and Belorussky Station, Domodedovo Airport and Paveletsky Station and between Vnukovo Airport and Kievsky Station) feature modern vehicles and offer fast, reliable connections to Moscow's major airports, these lines are not considered to be part of the Moscow Metro system.

As noted earlier, the Moscow Metro is technically organized by "Zone," with the center of Moscow being occupied by the "A" and "B" zone. Again, you shouldn't worry too much about this. If you're hanging out in the parts of the city, you probably speak enough Russian to be able to ask a local for advice!

Taxis and Ride Sharing Apps

The bad news? It is exceedingly unlikely that a taxi drive in Moscow will speak English. The good news? Uber works in Moscow as of March 2019, which means that if you have the app installed on your smartphone (and a Russian SIM card, which you can pick up at Moscow Airport), your next Moscow ride is basically a matter of plug-and-play.

Russia also has a number of homegrown ride sharing apps, though these aren't as ubiquitous as Uber — they also don't have good English-language interfaces. If you're interested in learning more about them, in any case, be sure to visit the websites of InDriver or Taxi Maxim . Keep in mind that many of these applications require Russian credit cards, or a Russian bank account to pay for rides.

Security-wise, the technological aspect of using ride sharing apps in Russia makes them relatively safe. On the other hand, taxis have a dodgy reputation at best. If you do end up needing to take a taxi in Moscow, make sure to use a registered car. The ones waiting at the airport stands are generally legitimate; within the city limits, try and have your hotel call a taxi to be safe.

Renting a Car in Moscow

Traffic in Moscow is reliably awful, to say nothing of how difficult navigating the city's serpentine network of ring roads and one-way streets can be. However, if you do want to rent a car in Moscow (or in Russia, more generally) there are some facts you should keep in mind.

Documentation wise, it's not officially necessary to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) — your US driver's license will work, at least if you plan to drive in Russia for less than six months. However, it might serve you well to get an IDP (you can apply at your local AAA office) for peace of mind. In Russia as in the US, you drive on the right side of the road; gas costs about 40 rubles per liter, or about $2.40 per gallon.

Another potential downfall of renting a car of Russia is the threat of interactions with Russian traffic police. While this doesn't put you in any mortal danger, there is a chance you'll have to bribe your way out of any confrontation, which outside the center of Moscow or other Russian cities will almost certainly necessitate some Russian language or body language skills.

Tips for Getting Around Moscow

Regardless of whether you take the Moscow Metro or any of the other transportation options listed here, these general tips for getting around Moscow will serve you well:

  • Moscow's city center is very walkable. Unless you're visiting on a bitterly cold day during the middle of winter, many of Moscow's attractions are close enough together that you could walk. For example, you can easily walk from Red Square to Gorky Park, Bolshoy Theatre , Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts , the Kremlin or simply along the Moskva River.
  • All roads lead to Red Square. Although Moscow is not a grid-pattern city, it is relatively organized. The majority of major roads start and end at Red Square; the rest are circular ones that connect the "spokes" from Red Square. With this basic idea in mind, it's pretty difficult to get lost in Moscow!
  • Moscow's awful traffic means that rail is usually the quickest option. Even if the physical distance between two places is shorter by car, traveling via the Moscow Metro is probably going to be quicker.
  • English signage in Moscow has greatly improved over the years. On the other hand, familiarizing yourself with the Cyrillic alphabet before your trip to Russia probably wouldn't be a bad idea. If you need to push someone out of the way (spoiler alert: you probably will!), say izvineetye (sorry) to excuse yourself.
  • Petty theft is common, especially during rush hour. Wear your backpack in front of your body, and don't keep large amounts of cash (or your smartphone!) in your back pocket. Hide any conspicuous signs of wealth to avoid being a target!

The Moscow Metro is easy to use—once you get the hang of it. After all, more than two billion trips take place across its rails every year. If it were difficult, this simply wouldn't be possible! Want to learn more about things to do in Moscow? Make sure to check out this guide to Red Square , which is both the geographical and cultural heart of Moscow (and arguably Russia).

MTA Open Data Program

Updated March 18, 2024

Our open data plan

The MTA moves millions of people every day, and we work hard to build trust and confidence in MTA services. It’s critical that public transit is safe, reliable, and fast — and that the public has input on our ongoing efforts to improve. We aim to share as much data that is in the public interest as we can, and to work with the community to understand their priorities.

Our commitment

The MTA is committed to being open and accountable to the public, and today has a robust program to share a wide array of information. We welcome external review and validation of our work, and value the increased trust in our work that will bring. We also value third-party use of our data in innovative ways: to provide better customer information and service, and to propose new analytical approaches our teams can consider and use. You can read more about what we’re doing beyond Open Data to further our transparency in our Annual Open Data Plan Update.

Under our renewed Open Data Program, we have begun to share substantially more data and make it easier to find and use. We promise to:

  • Submit all data that we already make public on this website to the NYS Open Data Portal.
  • Publish the data that we release via our monthly Board and Committee books.
  • Publish our plan and schedule for sharing to the NYS Open Data Portal all publishable agency data (completed in April 2022).
  • Implement our plan over the next two years.

The MTA Open Data program is managed by the Data & Analytics team, the MTA's center of excellence in the management, usage and sharing of data. Our three main functions are to aggregate the MTA’s many diverse data sources, to devise and automate creative analyses that uncover the valuable insights in that data, and to share these products and skills.

We do this work for all levels of the MTA, from the board and senior executives to front-line managers and the public. Our work includes building data pipelines to automate processes, calculating performance metrics for subway and bus service, maintaining critical datasets for internal and external use, and providing analytic support for executive leadership, as well as managing the MTA’s Open Data program. We share the data that our team maintains to all who need to query it so they can build their own reports from it. An important goal of our team is to facilitate the work of others analyzing MTA data.

We do all this by combining new approaches and algorithms with a deep knowledge of our operations to deliver deeper insights into issues affecting MTA’s performance. You’ll find our team’s work in lots of places: the MTA’s board and committee books, the New York State Open Data portal , the MTA’s metrics site , numerous internal datasets, the occasional news article, and the MTA Data & Analytics blog .

We’d love to hear from you! Get in touch with us by emailing [email protected] or by filling out this form .

U.S. Open 2024: Scottie Scheffler records a career worst—that's also pretty amazing

2157701552

David Cannon

And just like that, Scottie Scheffler is in a slump.

OK, so that's a bit of a stretch, but the World No. 1 shot a Saturday 71 at Pinehurst No. 2 to notch a career-worst streak. For the first time as a professional, Scheffler has shot (gasp!) four consecutive rounds over par.

RELATED: Max Homa perfectly summed up how golf fans feel watching this weekend

Of course, for context, three of those rounds are at a U.S. Open. Where, despite his struggles, Scheffler still made the cut. And the fourth round was the final round at last week's Memorial Tournament, where Muirfield Village also played particularly difficult that Sunday. It should also be noted that Scheffler's 74 that day was still good enough for him to notch his fifth win of 2024.

"I'm having a lot of trouble reading these greens," Scheffler told reporters after. "I had a lot of putts today where I felt like I hit it really good. I looked up and they were not going the way I thought they were going to go."

"Really my swing today felt a lot better than it did yesterday," Scheffler continued. "I felt like the last 27 holes I've played, I've hit it really nice, but I just haven't been able to hit it quite close enough, which is difficult around this course. I haven't been able to hole the putts the last few today."

RELATED: Cam Smith is wearing a 'periodic table of booze' shirt at Pinehurst

Then there's the fact that it took Scheffler this long to have such a cold stretch. This is his 120th start as a pro on the PGA Tour, and as British gambling guru Ben Coley pointed out, that's a LOT more starts than a few of Scheffler's top contemporaries like Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth.

And what about the man Scheffler has been drawing comparisons to during this historic stretch, Tiger Woods? By our count it happened for the 15-time major champ in only his 41st PGA Tour start as a pro in 1998. And—perhaps, not surprisingly—it also happened at a U.S. Open after starting at the Memorial.

That year Woods also shot an opening 76 at the Western Open in his next start to bring his over-par streak to six(!). But as golf fans are well aware, things turned out OK for Tiger. And we're not worried about Scheffler, either.

Moscow Metro

Moscow Metro

Opened in 1935 under Stalin, the Moscow Metro is one of the largest networks in the world and a tourist attraction in itself. Discover how to get around on it!

Designed to be " palaces of the people ", the different stations of Moscow's metro are spectacular examples of Socialist Realist art and architecture. Aside from providing fascinating insight into the city's history, the metro network is also an  efficient and economical way to get around the Russian capital .

Operating times & frequency

The Metro Moscow operates daily between  5:30 am and 1 am , with trains departing every 1 to 3 minutes during peak times. Outside of rush hour, trains are less frequent, every 4 to 7 minutes depending on the line and the time of day.

Ticket prices

The price of a single ticket for the Moscow Metro is 55 Roubles . Single tickets allow you to change trains as many times as you like, with no limit on distance or time. To buy tickets, you may struggle to find English speaking staff, however you should be to communicate the number of tickets you need by holding up your fingers, and thankfully most stations now have simple automated machines that you can use too.

There are often long queues to buy tickets, so if you're planning to travel by metro a lot, we recommend buying multi-ride tickets to save time and money. You'll get a paper card which you tap on the reader to go through the turnstile.

You can buy a daily ticket for ₽ 230 ( US$ 2.60) or a 3-day ticket for ₽ 438 ( US$ 4.90).

Metro lines

Moscow Metro has 17 lines  with a total length of 246 miles (397 km) divided into more than  230 stations  (265 if we include the Moscow Central Circle). Each line is identified by a name, a number and a colour.

Guided tour of the Moscow Metro

Moscow's metro network is a museum in itself, and it's a must-see attraction on any trip to the Russian capital. The long marble corridors, fascinating Soviet-themed frescoes and gilded sculptures are truly captivating.

A curious detail about the Moscow metro lies in the announcements on the trains. Unless you speak Russian, you probably won't understand the content of the voiceovers, however, you may note something interesting: trains heading into the city have male voiced announcements, and trains heading out of the city have female voiced announcements!

Here’s why we’re doing a Seattle DRIVING tour and not a mass transit tour

WHEN I PHONED Paula Cunningham, I didn’t know how the conversation would go. Things can get heated in Seattle when certain topics are brought up.

She was one of many readers who responded to my request for suggestions for this week’s cover story: taking visitors on a half-day driving tour of Seattle.

There was no mincing in her email.

She began: “Having just read two Climate Lab articles above yours on Seattle Times’ Top Stories, I find your article tone-deaf to the challenges of climate change and threats to the health of our beautiful city/state, as you cavalierly ask for suggestions on how to show friends and family around in a gas-guzzling minivan.”

Hers wasn’t the only response along those lines. We have a pugnacious anti-car sentiment .

The responses included:

● “I would do a driving tour if I secretly disliked that friend.”

● “It would be irresponsible to publish a ‘driving tour’ of Seattle.”

● “It’s comical you would suggest people drive their friends around to see the city that’s well served by transit.”

I told Paula — I like to think we ended on a first-name basis in our friendly conversation — that the math I did in making it a driving tour was simple.

But I also perfectly well understood her sentiments.

One of the most memorable trips my wife and I took was a Washington State ferry from Anacortes to Sidney on Vancouver Island (now canceled until at least 2030 ; “vessel availability constraints”). You can park your car at the ferry terminal and walk on with your bikes.

From Sidney, you connected to the Lockside Trail , a former railroad line, for the 16 or so miles to Victoria. It was flat and great for a lazy ride past farmland and woods.

Victoria, on its tourism website , touts itself as “one of the most bike-friendly cities in North America.”

Seattle is not flat terrain. Seattle is spread out.

How long would it take by bus, not to mention by bike, to get from the Ballard Locks to Capitol Hill, for example? Hours? This week’s sightseeing tour is six hours. That’s a big chunk of it gone.

You wouldn’t cover very much, and this story is about seeing lots of parts of Seattle.

Why try to do so much? Paula asked.

“If your out-of-town visitors are here for a very short amount of time, the main thing is to spend time with them,” she said. “I think what I’m trying to say is, maybe lower your expectations.”

Well, in a minivan, you ARE spending time with guests. It’s comfortable, and if someone needs a rest stop, you can find someplace convenient. You can drive to a specific place for lunch.

Paula suggested, “Out-of-town family and friends know to bring rain gear, so how about a walk or bus ride to visit an indoor attraction or a local bookstore?”

Waiting for a bus in the rain, or cruising in a dry, comfortable minivan?

I’m thinking: That’s an easy choice.

Ice-T Says Body Count's Tour Bus Smells Like 'Bengay and Poutpourri'

The 66-year-old says life on the road is far different now than it was when he was a rising rapper in the 1980s.

Ice-T is opening up about his experience touring Europe with his band Body Count.

In an interview with People magazine, the 66-year-old rapper-turned-actor spoke about how life on the road is far different now than it was when he was a rising rapper in the 1980s.

“My tour bus used to smell like weed, condoms and alcohol. Now it smells like Bengay and potpourri,” Ice-T joked. “Everybody goes. We have two tour buses. We have the family bus, with all the guys' wives and kids. Our front bus is very run by the women. Then we have the jail bus, which is all the roadies and all the guys that are by themselves. That's a bad bus."

View this photo on Instagram

Ice-T continued by reflecting on what it was like touring as a young artist. Whereas he used to "fuck everything that moves" while on tour, the father of three now prefers to bring his family along for the trek.

“When you are young and you're out there, and you're basically fucking everything that moves, tour is a whole other animal," he shared. “At the end of the show we're going to our hotel rooms, [it's] quiet, everything. The young guys are out there [because] they have never seen anything like it. When you get older and you're married, you don't want to be away from your family. You want your wife out there. So it changes.

Ice-T added, “I ran around the world three or four times by myself, so I don't need to be out there by myself anymore.”

McDavid breaks Gretzky's record for most assists in single postseason

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Connor McDavid now has the record for the most assists in a single NHL postseason after passing Wayne Gretzky with three more in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.

McDavid assisted on goals by Darnell Nurse , Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Dylan Holloway to reach 32 this playoffs, keying the Edmonton Oilers ' 8-1 rout of the Florida Panthers that kept them from being eliminated in a sweep. Their longtime captain and face of the league was far more concerned about the victory and the series and brushed off breaking Gretzky's mark.

“Obviously not the focus with where we’re at,” said McDavid, who also scored his first goal in his first trip to the final. “But not lost on me what he means to the game. Not the focus. Yeah.”

Teammates were far more complimentary of their leader and best player adding his name to the history books.

“That’s pretty special,” said forward Connor Brown , whose history with McDavid dates to their time playing junior hockey together with the Erie Otters. “Connor probably won’t admit it, but you’ve got to feel proud about that. It’s not by accident. I’ve known Connor for a long time, and it’s not an accident he is the player he is.”

McDavid's 38 points in 22 games are the most of anyone in the playoffs. Holloway said McDavid passing Gretzky was “unbelievable.”

“Most of Gretzky’s records are considered almost untouchable, and Davo, he’s right there,” Holloway said. "It’s pretty special to watch. He leads our team every day, on the ice, off the ice leads by example. Couldn’t be happier for him.”
