When Trent Reznor launched How to Destroy Angels in 2010, we had no reason to believe that this wasn’t the project that would be taking up the majority of his attentions for the foreseeable future; after all, he’d made quite the show of putting Nine Inch Nails to bed, touring the world extensively as part of a jaunt titled ‘Wave Goodbye’ and then selling off all of the band’s gear in high-profile fashion once the shows were over. Later, though, he’d return to his ‘day job’ with NIN, releasing a new record, Hesitation Marks, last year and touring heavily, putting HTDA, his project with his wife Mariqueen Maandig, firmly on the back burner.
Whilst they were a going concern, though - we can safely assume them to be on hiatus for now - they made one, well received record, Welcome Oblivion, and played typically stunning live sets; what else do you expect from Reznor? Both the sonic experimentation and dazzling visual side of their appearance at Coachella in 2013 were standard for a man who insists on putting on consistently thrilling live shows; the YouTube footage is well worth checking out, because for now, that’s all we’ve got, at least until NIN go quiet again.

Reznor & co. will be offering direct pre-sales for the limited number of tickets to the shows, with pre-sales beginning Feb. 27.

How to Destroy Angels
By Melissa Maerz
Melissa Maerz
Having wrestled with world annihilation in Nine Inch Nails , Trent Reznor is dealing with his scariest subject ever: marriage. His new trio is fronted by his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, and married life doesn't exactly sound like bliss. In an eerily comatose voice, Maandig imagines the couple's guts getting ripped out onstage: "Opened up, proudly on display/What we tried so hard to hide away." Reznor's torture-device beats only magnify the push-pull between them. "Yes, now I need you," Maandig finally admits. Which might be sweet, if that song wasn't called "Parasite."

Singles & eps, about how to destroy angels.
Named after a 1984 Coil single, How to Destroy Angels feature Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, former West Indian Girl singer (and Reznor's wife) Mariqueen Maandig, and Atticus Ross (12 Rounds, NIN). Work on the project began a few months after Nine Inch Nails' final show of their Wave Goodbye tour in September 2009. The following spring, the group made its debut with the single A Drowning and a video for the song "The Space in Between," which premiered that May. Soon after, the band made its self-titled debut EP -- which was produced by Ross -- available as a free download. That July, How to Destroy Angels was released on CD through the Null label. In 2011, the group contributed a cover of Bryan Ferry's "Is Your Love Strong Enough" to the soundtrack of the David Fincher film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which Reznor and Ross also scored. The following year, How to Destroy Angels prepared their second release, An Omen EP, which became their first major-label recording. A full-length album called Welcome Oblivion appeared in March 2013, just after Reznor announced he was planning to take a new version of Nine Inch Nails on the road in 2014. Welcome Oblivion peaked at number 30 on the Billboard 200 and featured the single "How Long?" ~ Heather Phares

Trent Reznor's How to Destroy Angels Plays Light Like an Instrument
Rob Sheridan, the art director for Trent Reznor’s side project How To Destroy Angels , is up on stage, but he has no instrument. More accurately, he is playing an instrument, but it doesn’t play music – it plays light.
How to Destroy Angels, a band that includes Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross and Sheridan, is the midst of a 12-show tour around the U.S. that includes a Coachella date tonight around midnight. Throughout the show, Sheridan uses a Livid MIDI controller and an iPad Mini running Lemur to tweak, trigger, and control a huge projector and a sixteen-foot wall of LEDs that create a shimmering, three-dimensional cube of light effects.
Set up in front of the stage is a 16-foot tall curtain of 14-inch surgical tubing, which offers a semi-transparent surface for the projector. The effect is a masking, shading substrate for an abstract lighting effect. Panning the video down can cause a cascading rain, or a trickle effect. As the music intensifies, digital dots make a frantic red snowstorm.
Originally the show was supposed to have four projectors, one from each side, and another curtain of tubing in the back. But while that might have worked at Coachella, most of the other venues would have lost the effect.
“We were realizing, this is going to suck at all the shows except Coachella,” says Sheridan. “It’s not even remotely the same thing. That’s when Trent says, 'well, don’t kill me for asking, but how much would it cost to get an LED screen in here?' Miraculously it happened. We were able to afford it, and get it in, and it saved the show, basically. It made a tremendous, tremendous difference in how everything looked.”
The result is an abstract texture, wherein images from the projector and the LED screen interact, creating a three-dimensional feel, with the band almost floating in between.

“A lot of what this thing ended up being had a lot to do with what the band is and how we envisioned kind of being presented live,” says Sheridan. “It was very much about structure and architecture and how to make something that didn’t feel at all like a rock show, felt more like an art installation.”
He worked with production designer Roy Bennett and lighting and projection mapping company Moment Factory to design a show for Coachella. But by the time Sheridan had visited Moment Factory’s Montreal studio to prototype the stage design, they had so much invested in the project that they decided to build a tour around it.
“It was really about creating depth of textures and creating a certain volume in the stage,” says Sakchin Bessette, Moment Factory’s co-founder. “It’s really based on a lot of layering, this show. Basically the front projector and the LED screen in the back kind of work together, with the band in the middle.”
It’s a gamble, hiding the band behind a screen, even a translucent one. The tubing is strung in four rows, and depending on how Sheridan’s got it lit, you can see the band’s silhouettes, faces, or nothing at all.
But the tubing is in sections: at Coachella, five units hang from a track above, and Sheridan can move them, rotate them, and slide them out of the way.
“It’s this whole idea of kind of like structuring the show so that it stays mysterious at the beginning,” says Bessette. “The first song, it’s just silhouettes of the band that we see … but as it opens up, it becomes more human and personal.”
Risk it may be, but on the reveal, the crowd screams. The payoff is there.
“The reaction we’ve gotten has been really really good,” says Sheridan. “There’s that moment when you’ve been working for months and months on end, when you wonder, is this good?”
Sheridan compares the project to some of what you see at electronic dance shows, like Amon Tobin, who has featured projection mapping effects in his shows .
“But we also have a distinct advantage over that type of stuff,” says Sheridan. “We have actual musicians on stage playing real instruments, and a lead singer who carries a lot of emotion and personality and voice.”
During the single, “ How Long ,” a discreet Kinect captures lead singer Maandig, translating her image through the projectors as a bright white silhouette, with a vortex of moving red lights spinning out of it like red blood cells.
Dressed all in white, with a Kinect-generated halo, she looks a bit like an angel.

In April 2023, MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth collapsed on stage during the band's concert in Tampa, Florida
Video of the incident, which apparently happened during the sixth song of MORBID ANGEL 's set at The Orpheum in Azagthoth 's hometown, showed the now-59-year-old musician — whose real name is George Emmanuel III — struggling to stay on his feet while performing before he was helped to the back of the stage by a couple of roadies.
After a short break, MORBID ANGEL bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker told the crowd that Trey "injured himself", before he and the other members of the group performed one more song and then ended the show.
"I think we're gonna call it a night, man," Steve told the crowd. "Without the leader… I apologize. I love all you motherfuckers. Thank you for coming. Hopefully Trey is all right. We'll see you all again real soon, man. You have a good fucking night."
The Tampa show was part of MORBID ANGEL 's "United States Tour Of Terror" which was scheduled to conclude in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
MORBID ANGEL 's 2023 U.S. tour marked the band's first with drummer Charlie Koryn , who had previously played with ASCENDED DEAD , INCANTATION , FUNEBRARUM and SKELETAL REMAINS .
MORBID ANGEL made mainstream media headlines in March 2023 after a 50-year-old man died when the roof collapsed at a theater hosting the band's concert in Belvidere, Illinois. Although the concert was reportedly sold out, the Belvidere Police Department said only 260 people were at the Apollo Theater on March 31, 2023 when the collapse occurred as a heavy storm rolled through the area. The capacity of the theater is around 1,500. In total, 28 people were taken to local hospitals by paramedics and another 48 people sought treatment on their own.
MORBID ANGEL 's latest album, "Kingdoms Disdained" , was released in December 2017.

Angels’ Announcers Crush Umps After Brutal Call on Game’s Final Out
- Author: Andy Nesbitt
In this story:
The Los Angeles Angels fell to the Baltimore Orioles , 6-5, on Wednesday with the final out coming on one of the worst calls of the MLB season, which is saying a lot because the umps have not been great so far this year.
In case you missed it, Jo Adell appeared to steal second with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but the umps called him out. The play was challenged by the Angels, but somehow it wasn't overturned. That led to the Angels announcers absolutely crushing the umps.
Here's a look at Adell sliding into second. It sure looked like he beat the throw:
No words. @Angels pic.twitter.com/a3e8WKTIsW — Bally Sports West (@BallySportWest) April 24, 2024
Here's how the announces handled it:
“That’s a joke… It is clear on the replay Adell was safe… that’s garbage.” Angels broadcasters Wayne Randazzo and Mark Gubicza didn’t mince words pic.twitter.com/wlR9HwxWyF — Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) April 25, 2024
What a brutal way to lose a game.
