Christmas in Doylestown!

doylestown christmas house tour 2021

T he popular Christmas in Doylestown house tour, brought to our community by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, has been a Doylestown tradition since 1992.   During pre-covid times, the church decorated both the interior and exterior of 4 houses for the lucky homeowners. St. Paul’s always went above and beyond, making each house spectacular and unique.

Over the past 29 years, this event has raised over $193,500 to benefit the Doylestown Homeless Shelter, operated by the Bucks County Housing Group. Last year the event committee decided to change the tour to be an outside decorating competition, a drive by tour, and called it the Christmas in Doylestown Re-Imagined House Tour.

This was a huge success and brought much needed holiday cheer during such a bleak time! Harvey Avenue won the “Best Neighborhood” competition by decorating their street as “Candy Cane Lane”. They donated their $500 winnings to the Doylestown Community Food Pantry. The “Best House”, on Bridge Street, was awarded to the Farinas who donated their winnings to the Fiaria Project, which supports foster families through their transitions.

This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, St Paul’s is preparing for a similar safe and free holiday experience: 2021 Christmas in Doylestown ‘Outdoor Lights Tour’. There are 4 categories this year; “Most Fun for Kids”, “Best Themed Display”, “Best Front Door”, and “Most Creative Illumination”.

Each winner will receive a $250 award to grant to a local charity of their choice. Like last year, the winners will be determined by the community through online voting.   Please help us spread the word and register your house to join in on the fun!

The tour territory includes the borough and the neighborhood of Doylestown Hunt (from the rumors, this neighborhood is worth the extra drive). The deadline to register your house in the competition is December 5th, and the event will take place from December 10th to 19th from 5pm to 9pm.

Bucks County holiday happenings: Here's where to get festive this season

There's nothing like home for the holidays, especially when home is as festive and fun as Bucks County.

Winter and holiday celebrations appear to be back in full swing this November and December after COVID-19 put a bit of a damper last year. Many offerings have returned in-person, but organizers in some cases are limiting capacity and ask patrons to plan ahead and book early.

And as an extra Christmas bonus, we found lots of things to do in Bucks County that won't bust your holiday budget, and some are even free to attend.

More festive fun: Holiday parades and events are back in Bucks and Montco. Here's where to catch one in your town

More events will be added throughout the season, so save the link and check back often. Our friends at Visit Bucks County are the experts of fun and festive and are also a great source for activities to keep things merry and bright in Bucks County this year.

Here are some of our favorites:

Holly Nights at Pennsbury Manor

Tickets are $14/adults, $12/seniors, & $6/children age 4+ and must be purchased ahead of time. For information, visit  http://www.pennsburymanor.org/

A Bucks resident coordinated lists of festively decorated homes and shared the routes on Facebook . There were several routes depending on the part of the county you want to visit. The list are provided free of charge. The lists are still being coordinated this year and suggestions are still being taken. Seven distinctive homes in Newtown were featured, including the Homestead (1800) at 127 South Sycamore Street; a colonial residence (1740) on South State Street; the Quintin House (1801) at 149 North State Street; the Bird in Hand (1690) at 111 South State Street; the Georgian House (1830) at 111 Court Street; the Schofield House (1837) at 113 Court Street; and a Victorian house (1860) at 219 Washington Avenue. Other buildings included on the tour were the Newtown Presbyterian Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Christmas Alley of the Hanging Lamp on North State Street.

A carol and candlelight parade in costume was featured on Friday night starting at Washington and Chancellor Streets and street caroling on Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. at the Bird in Hand. It was noted in the program that the Newtown Civic and Historic Association desired to acquire a historic building and if necessary restore it as a headquarters. The monies derived from the celebration of “Christmas in Colonial Newtown” were to be used toward this goal.
