Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: Safari Zone Pokemon List

The Safari Zone/Great Marsh area in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl has a select list of Pokemon to search for day or night.

The Safari Zone has been a staple of mainline Pokemon games since the first games released in 1998. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl continue the tradition, except the designated zone is rebranded as the Great Marsh.

The Great Marsh is similar to many previous Safari Zones, but it has its unique differences in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl . The dedicated area has its own set list of Pokemon that can spawn within all 6 zones. The chances of encountering a specific character changes based on the time of day, whether the National Dex has been acquired, and a randomized potential daily encounter with one character from a binoculars sighting.

Great Marsh Safari Zone Guide

There are a total of 31 Pokemon that can be caught in the Safari Zone/Great Marsh in Brilliant Diamond and 30 in Shining Pearl, with 8 only catchable after getting the National Dex from Professor Oak after beating the Elite Four . Arbok is exclusive to Brilliant Diamond players.

Trainers will start the Great Marsh Safari Zone after buying 30 Safari Balls and entering the area. They have unlimited time to explore, but the adventure ends when every Pokeball has been thrown, or 500 steps have been reached. Trainers don't battle, but instead must use bait and lure to alter the catch/flee rate. It is highly recommended to just throw a Safari Ball without using any Bait or Lure .

There are 14 Pokemon that can only be encountered after spotting them on the lookout binoculars located on the second floor of the Safari Zone building. This character is randomized daily, and ordinary random catches have the ability to appear in the binoculars for all 6 zones as well. So, there's no guarantee a character that can only be captured after spotting it with the binoculars will actually spawn.

The date/time on the Nintendo Switch can be manipulated (just like time traveling in Animal Crossing: New Horizons ) to simulate a new daily binoculars potential Pokemon encounter.

The Great Marsh is the safari zone of  Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl , and it is filled with rare Pokémon to catch and items to find. Safari zones in every Pokémon game are essentially mini-games in which players are presented with a limited number of Safari Balls to catch as many Pokémon as possible. Additionally, players are also presented with the challenge of being able to only walk a certain number of steps.

One of the defining features of the Great Marsh in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond  and  Shining Pearl  is the trolley system. The trolley system is a free means of transportation that takes players to various areas of the Great Marsh without costing them any of their limited 500 steps. It's also the easiest way to access Pokémon in certain areas. Once the National Dex is unlocked in Pokémon BDSP , trainers will want to make sure they take full advantage of the trolley system to access more rare Pokémon.

The Great Marsh is located in Pastoria City in  Pokémon Brilliant Diamond  and  Shining Pearl , and it's available at any time. To explore the Great Marsh, players will have to pay 500 Poké Dollars at the entrance counter. Additionally, players can pay another 100 Poké Dollars at the binoculars on the second floor of the same building to see which Pokémon are available in which area. New Pokémon are in the Great Marsh every day, and knowing which ones are located in which area is imperative to catch them all. The Defog HM in Pokémon BDSP is also located in the Great Marsh and is given out by an NPC with green hair to the right of the entrance.

Pokémon Encounters in the Great Marsh in Pokémon BDSP

Although the majority of encounters in the Great Marsh in  Pokémon Brilliant Diamond  and  Shining Pearl  are for common Pokémon like Starly, Bibarel, and Wooper, players can find the rarer encounters rotating daily. Additionally, having fishing rods grants more access to purely aqua-based Pokémon like Magikarp and Barboach. The better the fishing rod players bring with them and use, the better the Pokémon they can catch. With a Super Rod, players can even catch Whiscash, Carvanha, and Gyarados in the Great Marsh. The Super Rod in Pokémon BDSP can be found by speaking with an NPC fisherman on Route 225.

The Great Marsh is Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's equivalent to the Safari Zone, allowing you to catch some rare and unusual Pokémon - and pick up some essential items - as you explore its six areas. It also follows on from Pastoria City in your adventure, and our Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl walkthrough .

Below we'll explain how the Great Marsh works, including how daily spawns work and where to get any key items on your first visit - and what to do and where to go next if you've come here from our walkthrough guide.

Great Marsh explained: how daily spawns work

Should you use bait or mud in the great marsh, great marsh pokémon and item locations.

The Great Marsh is a Safari Zone-like area in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, accessed via Pastoria City, which is split into six areas with a tram in the centre that will take you to each of them, saving you the walk.

Each entrance to the Great Marsh costs 500 Pokémon Dollars, and you get a limited amount of time in there, measured by the number of steps you take when walking, running, or cycling. That means using the tram is essential if you want to go to some of the deeper areas of the marsh and still have enough steps left over to walk around chasing Pokémon and collecting items.

There's also one central mechanic here that works differently to anywhere else: rare, rotating daily spawns. Here's how that works.

How daily spawns work

Before you acquire the National Pokédex, there are eight special Pokémon spawns that can only occur in the Great Marsh via this method. Each day, an unknown number of them will spawn in the Great Marsh, and those that spawn will be set to only appear in a specific Area (there are six in total).

To find out which rare daily spawn Pokémon are spawning where, you can use the binoculars on the upper floor of the entrance building of the Great Marsh, which cost 100 Pokémon Dollars each time you use them. These do not change the spawns, and you do not need to use them in order for the spawns to appear (we've personally verified this). The binoculars are just a method to help you locate which Area the Pokémon you're after is spawning in that day, so you can head there and run around in the long grass until it appears.

The binoculars, meanwhile, can show any Pokémon that spawns in that area. So, for example: looking through one pair might show Area 1, with a Bibarel. This does not necessarily mean that there are no rare Pokémon spawning in Area 1! Keep re-using those binoculars and it might eventually show a Carnivine, for instance, is also spawning in Area 1 that day.

Below are the rare spawns that can appear. Note that several of these Pokémon, such as Roselia, are catchable elsewhere, while Skorupi for instance can be caught in Pokémon Hideaways in the Grand Underground . Again, several (more than one in total, but possibly less than one for all six Areas at once) can spawn per day, and you don't need to use the binoculars to trigger the spawns.

Rotating Daily Spawn Pokémon

Note that after you get the National Pokédex, another handful of new Pokémon are able to spawn here as Rotating Daily Spawns.

Whether to use Bait or Mud depends on two things: what effect you want, and whether you like to gamble or play things safe.

For starters, let's explain the basics: in the Great Marsh you can't battle or weaken Pokémon, you just find them and get presented with four options: throw a ball, throw Mud, throw Bait, or run away from the battle. Throwing both Bait and Mud has two effects.

• Bait - increases the chance of Pokémon fleeing; increases the chance of you successfully catching it with a ball.
• Mud - decreases the chance of a Pokémon fleeing; decreases the chance of you successfully catching it with a ball.

It might sound backwards, given the word "bait" is used by the game, but basically: throw Mud at Pokémon you don't want to run away. Throw Bait if you want to gamble on them running before you've even had a chance to throw a ball.

Aside from those new mechanics, the Great Marsh is also a location that you'll need to pass through on your journey through Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's main story.

With that in mind, here are the spawns and items in each Area of the Great Marsh, so you can collect absolutely everything you want.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How to Get the Most Out of the Safari Zone

Trainers looking to complete their Pokédex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will need to make the most of Pastoria City's Great Marsh.

The Pokémon series has a ton of different recurring elements that fans tend to either love or hate depending on the generation. For example, the frequently-present Safari Zone allows trainers to participate in a unique catching mini-game as they track down rare Pokémon. Generation IV's take on the Safari Zone, the Great Marsh, returns in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl 's Pastoria City and remains fairly unchanged from its original incarnation .

With the inclusion of the Grand Undergound's unique biomes and the Pokémon that appear there, the Great Marsh's less-varied Pokémon options may initially make it seem like little more than a fun distraction. However, there's still plenty of reason  to check out Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl 's Safari Zone. With consistent Pokémon between both versions of the game and some notable rare creatures available, here are some things players should keep in mind to make the most out of their next Safari.

How the Great Marsh Works

In addition to limiting trainers to 500 steps and 30 Safari Balls for each visit, the Great Marsh features a unique catching system, as well as unique catch rates for the Pokémon who appear there. Typically, a Pokémon species has a set catch rate that determines how difficult they are to catch in the wild. In the Great Marsh, these numbers are either lowered or raised depending on the species. There's also a unique chance to flee statistic applied to Great Marsh Pokémon, who are not battled and cannot be weakened like other wild Pokémon.

While it is currently unclear if specific numbers have been adjusted for the remakes, in the original Diamond and Pearl , players had the best chance to catch Pokémon if they exclusively threw Safari Balls. While throwing bait or mud may seem useful on paper, players have found that just throwing Safari Balls gives the best chance at catching a Pokémon before they flee. While it may be a bit tedious to just spam a single option, players looking to get some of the rare finds in the Great Marsh should give this strategy a try.

Come with the Right Tools

While players can absolutely jump straight into the Great Marsh as soon as they step foot in Pastoria City, they won't be able to get the most out of the Safari Zone without the right tools. Certain Pokémon require the right field moves and key items to even encounter. Revisiting the Great Marsh with the ability to Surf and use the Super Rod will let trainers catch a far wider variety of Pokémon -- including some that make the Great Marsh worth visiting.

For example, Pokémon like Carvana and Whishcash can only be caught with a Super Rod. Whishcash is especially notable for being a fantastic defensive Pokémon with the always-powerful Water/Ground dual-typing. Having Surf and the Super Rod also opens the player up to the daily rotating Pokémon in water environments, provide even more opportunities and ways to encounter different kinds fo Pokémon.

Use the Binoculars Before Starting a Safari

Knowing which Pokémon are in the daily rotation and where certain ones are located can help players really make the most out of the time limit. To check the entire Great Marsh, players will have to spend 300 Poké Dollars to look through the binoculars on the second floor of the Great Marsh building. Some of these Pokémon really make the Safari worth the time and effort, particularly those who can only her caught here, and checking the binoculars can help players decide whether they should visit or wait for another day.

Keep an Eye Out for Useful Items

Long-time Pokémon fans will know that, wherever there's a Safari Zone, there are important items hidden inside. The Great Marsh in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is no different, as players can find some rare and unique items if they take the time to explore each zone. One of the Great Marsh's most important finds is the TM for Defog, a former HM move that greatly helps players traverse Route 210 and reach Celestic Town.

Outside of that, players can also find a Rare Candy, various Poké Balls, nuggets and different kinds of healing items scattered around the various areas. There's also a Toxic Plate located in Area 2 for players looking to collect every kind of plate in the game, plus various items that can be sold for Poké Dollars. It should be noted that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl features  Diamond and Pearl 's item layout, not Platinum 's.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Great Marsh guide – All encounters, daily Pokémon, and more

Within every new iteration of Pokémon , Game Freak and the other developers working on the games find new ways to take old concepts and bring them to life in new ways. That can mean something as simple as giving new evolutions to species that didn’t have them before, mechanics like Mega Evolution of Dynamaxing taking battling to the next level, or simply seeing an area that worked and flipping it into something else.

In the case of Sinnoh and the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes on Nintendo Switch, the Great Marsh is the gen four equivalent of the Safari Zone and was actually the first time the games ditched the original name for something new. 

After arriving in Pastoria City, players can pay 500 PokéDollars to enter the Great Marsh. They will be given 30 Safari Balls and a 500 step limit to enter the protected habitat of several rare Pokémon and attempt to capture them. 

Once inside, players can traverse a set of six numbered areas by walking or via a small tram that is set up on a track in the center, which will help conserve steps if you need to go deep into the marsh. 

Each area will contain different Pokémon native to the Great Marsh, with several species being exclusive to the area. There are also several mechanics you will need to learn before you actually go in and get to catching. 

General Rules

The 500 PokéDollar fee, 30 Safari Balls, and 500 step limit are all pretty well-known aspects of the Great Marsh, as it follows the Safari Zone model from older titles. It also borrows the non-battling environment as well. 

Once you enter the Great Marsh, you will not be battling other Pokémon, rather, you will be throwing Safari Balls, Mud, or Bait. Throwing Bait at a Pokémon will make it easier to catch but more likely to flee. Likewise, throwing Mud will make the Pokémon harder to catch but less likely to flee, with both changing the unique catch rate/flee rate by a stage of one per use. 

Safari Balls have the same catch rate as a normal Poké Ball, so you won’t be getting any favors there and will need to utilize both Mud and Bait appropriately. 

You can also run away from any encounter automatically if you don’t want to catch a Pokémon. 

Changing Pokémon 

A majority of the Pokémon you find in the Great Marsh will be common encounters, meaning they will be spread throughout multiple areas. There is a way to find rare Pokémon easily and make sure you know where to get hunting, though these encounters change daily.

This method involves going upstairs once you enter the main building of the Great Marsh before actually going into the marsh itself. 

On the second floor, you will find some binoculars that are used for scenic viewing. Paying 100 PokéDollars will give you an overview of certain parts of the marsh and which Pokémon are available in each spot, though what Pokémon you see is completely randomized. If you get lucky, you could see a rare Pokémon from the lookout and can just make a beeline for that area to try and catch it. 

You should at least take the time to explore the Great Marsh once fully to grab all of the items scattered throughout.

Now that you know all of the basics, here is a full list of the Pokémon you can encounter in BDSP’s version of the Great Marsh—split between regular random encounters in the day and night, surfing and fishing encounters, and the Daily Binocular Pokémon, along with what changes once you unlock the National Pokédex.

Great Marsh

The Great Marsh (Japanese: 大湿原 Great Marsh ) is an area located in Pastoria City . It is Sinnoh 's Safari Zone and contains some Pokémon that cannot be found anywhere else in Sinnoh. It is filled with marshy areas , which, unlike normal marsh tiles, have tall grass inhabited by wild Pokémon .

Functioning

Capturing pokémon.

Much like other Pokémon preserves in Kanto and Hoenn , the Great Marsh features a Safari Game in which Trainers pay $ 500 for 30 Safari Balls and a limited number of steps (500) to catch all the Pokémon they can.

The mechanics are similar to other Safari Zones: when a wild Pokémon appears, the player may not send out any Pokémon to battle it, but must instead try to catch the Pokémon without harming it. The wild Pokémon may choose to flee the battle at any time, thus, catching a Pokémon in the Great Marsh requires mainly luck.

There are four options shown in the battle screen:

• Throw a Safari Ball - Throws a Safari Ball in possibility of capture. It is much the same as throwing a Poké Ball in an average Pokémon battle.
• Throw bait - Throwing bait makes a Pokémon easier to catch, but makes it more likely to flee from battle. (Increases catch rate and flee rate by one stage each)
• Throw mud - Throwing mud does the reverse of throwing bait, making the Pokémon harder to catch, but making the Pokémon less likely to flee from battle. (Decreases catch rate and flee rate by one stage each)
• Run from battle - Like in an average Pokémon battle, running away from a Pokémon will cause the battle to end.

Similar to the issue in Pal Park , if the player has an Arceus in the front of their party, holding a Plate, and initiates a battle, the game will freeze .

The area was redesigned in Pokémon Platinum to feature slightly upgraded graphics that allow the player to distinguish between deep and shallow mud. The park is still divided into six areas, but the individual areas have slightly different layouts.

Changing Pokémon

Some Pokémon will not always appear in the Great Marsh. Every day, a random Pokémon from a set list will be chosen by the game to appear in each area of the marsh, in addition to the Pokémon that can always be found there. Each possible Pokémon has a different chance of being chosen, but whichever one is chosen has a 10% encounter rate in its area. The same Pokémon can be chosen to appear in multiple areas on the same day, and, prior to obtaining the National Pokédex , some of the Pokémon that can be chosen can already be encountered anyway. After obtaining the National Pokédex , the list of changing Pokémon changes.

The only way to tell which changing Pokémon is available in each area for the day is to use the lookout upstairs from the entrance. For $ 100, the player can get a brief glimpse of the Great Marsh, showing certain Pokémon in certain areas of the marsh. In each slide, a part of the park will appear with a Pokémon in the center of the slide that can be found in that area. However, the Pokémon that are shown are completely random, meaning that it is possible for the player to only see Pokémon that can always be found in each area anyway. Record mixing also changes the changing Pokémon of the day in the Great Marsh so that all players mixing records have the same Pokémon on the same day.

As with previous Safari Zones, Pokémon are made easier and harder to catch by modifying their catch rates . An escape rate is also given for each Pokémon that appears in the Great Marsh. The escape rates for Pokémon are the same for all Generation IV games, except that those who do not appear in the Great Marsh or the Johto Safari Zone do not have their escape rates defined in the relevant games.

At the start of an encounter, both rates are set to their species defaults. Throwing Bait will increase the catch rate by one stage, but will also have a 90% chance of increasing the escape rate by one stage. Conversely, throwing Mud will decrease the escape rate by one stage, but will also have a 90% chance of decreasing the catch rate by one stage. When bait is thrown and the flee stage is not increased the message "... is busy eating!" will be displayed. When mud is thrown and the catch stage is not decreased the message "... is beside itself with anger!" will be displayed. Stages for catch rates and escape rates work identically to stat stages : they may not be raised above +6 or below -6, where 0 is the starting stage. The stage multipliers applied to the catch rates and escape rates are also identical to that of stat stages.

At the end of each turn, a random number between 0 and 254 (inclusive) is generated, and if it is less than the or equal to the modified escape rate, the Pokémon escapes.

Due to a programming error, Whiscash does not have a flee rate programmed into the game, and thus only has a 1/255 chance to flee (if the generated random number is 0).

Statistically, exclusively throwing Safari Balls provides the best chance of catching every Pokémon in the Great Marsh.

Base flee rates

These are the base flee rates. The Pokémon actual chance of fleeing each turn is affected by bait and mud.

Generation IV

The following encounters are used for Surfing and fishing in all areas where they are possible.

Areas 1 and 2

Areas 3 and 4.

The "rates" below are the chances for that Pokémon to be selected to appear in an area. All of these Pokémon will appear with a 10% encounter rate within the Great Marsh, or a 10% greater rate if they were already present. In Diamond and Pearl, the changing Pokémon's encounter rate is compensated (so that all encounter rates sum to 100%) by lowering the encounter rate of Marill and Quagsire in the same area (as seen above) by 5% each, while in Platinum, it is compensated by lowering the encounter rate of Wooper by 10%. The way this works in the games, this means that if Wooper is selected as the changing Pokémon in Platinum, there is no change to the tables shown above.

Generation VIII

The "rates" below are the chances for that Pokémon to be selected to appear in an area. All of these Pokémon will appear with a 10% encounter rate within the Great Marsh, or a 10% greater rate if they were already present. The changing Pokémon's encounter rate is compensated (so that all encounter rates sum to 100%) by lowering the encounter rate of Marill and Quagsire in the same area (as seen above) by 5% each.

Ash , Dawn , and Brock visited the Great Marsh in Cream of the Croagunk Crop! , in which Brock and his Croagunk participated in the Pastoria Croagunk Festival .

In A Skuffle with Skorupi , Diamond , Pearl and Platinum came here after Crasher Wake 's assistant recommended Platinum to get a Grass-type Pokémon before challenging the Gym Leader . Platinum tried to catch various Pokémon, like Budew and Skorupi , with no success. At some point, the group got stuck in the mud. While they tried to struggle themselves free, a wild Carnivine attacked Chatler and Lax , who fought it and won. Chimler saved Platinum from drowning in the mud, after which the group left the Great Marsh empty-handed.

• In Diamond and Pearl, a man in the Great Marsh incorrectly states that both bait and mud make Pokémon more likely to run but easier to catch.
• If the player uses the walk through walls cheat to enter the Great Marsh, the changing Pokémon won't appear.
• If the player encounters a Pokémon while they are sunken in deep mud, a glitch exists where upon exiting the battle, it will seem that the player is still "stuck", despite being able to move around normally. The effects of this glitch are most obvious when the player attempts to move to a tile with dry land after performing the glitch.
• Despite the Galactic Bomb's successful detonation, no damage caused by it can be found at the Great Marsh.

How does the Great Marsh work in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The Great Marsh is the Safari-Zone style area in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This location is where you can go to find rare wild Pokemon (along with a few other items). You will be able to access the Great Marsh after reaching Pastoria City. It is located in the northern section of the city and will cost you 500 dollars to enter.

Before entering the Great Marsh, use the stairs to go up to the second floor of the building and use the telescopes. Each use of one will cost you 100 dollars, but it will also reveal the locations of some of the Pokemon found throughout the area. If you are looking for a specific Pokemon, you will want to check these out.

You can find the following Pokemon throughout the Great Marsh:

When you enter the Great Marsh, you will be given 30 Safari Balls. Like previous games that feature the Safari Zone, when you encounter a Pokemon, you will be given the option to throw a Safari Ball, throw bait, throw mud, or run. Once you run out of Safari Balls, your time in the Great Marsh will be over.

While inside the Great Marsh, be sure to talk with the NPC to the right of the entrance to obtain the TM Defog. This TM allows you to clear out foggy areas later in the game. You can also use the tram in the center of the Great Marsh to easily travel between the four areas.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has many places that you will visit during the course of the game. One of the more unique locations is the Great Marsh. This place has its own unique rules and gameplay mechanics, but since it has many Pokemon that can be caught there – as well as some which are exclusive to that place – it’s definitely worth a visit. In this Great Marsh Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl guide, we will explain everything there is to know about the Great Marsh, including how to get there and which items and Pokemon you can find within.

Great Marsh Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Once you get to Pastoria City, go to the large building at the north end of the city and enter there. You will need to pay 500 PokeDollars to gain entrance to the Great Marsh Safari Game. For this price, the Attendant will provide you with 30 Safari Balls and you will have a 500 step limit while you are in there. Inside, there are six separate areas. If you want to preserve your steps, you can also move around these using the train system within.

To catch the Pokemon within – such as Carnivine – you will use the Safari Balls, Mud, and Bait. The Safari Balls are pretty much the same thing like regular Poké Balls. When you throw the Mud at a Pokemon there, that Pokemon will be easier to catch, but more likely to flee. The Bait has the opposite effect – those Pokemon are now harder to catch but not nearly as likely to flee.

Another important thing to note is that you can also pay 100 PokeDollars to use the Binoculars on the second floor in the entrance building to see which Pokemon are available. This is the only way that some Pokemon, like the aforementioned Carnivine, will spawn there.

Great Marsh Items Pokemon BDSP

There are many items which you will be able to get in this area. These include Rare Candy, Honey, Hyper Potion, etc. But the most important thing available in the Great Marsh is the Defog Hidden Move , which you can unlock there.

What Pokemon Can You Catch in the Great Marsh?

The Pokemon you can catch in the Great Marsh are numerous, and depend on several factors. Random Day Encounters include: Bibarel (20%), Whooper (20%), Quagsire (15%), Marill (15%), Budew (10%), Starly (10%), Psyduck (8%), Bidoof (1%), and Azurill (1%). Random Night Encounters are almost identical, the only differences being that you can also encounter Hoothoot (20%), and you cannot encounter Starly. If you use the Surfing Hidden Move , you can also get Whooper (60%), Marill (15%), Quagsire (5%), and Psyduck (5%).

Fishing also lets you catch various aquatic Pokemon. Using the Old Rod nets you Magikarp (100%). With the Good Rod, you can get Magikarp (65%), Barboach (35%), and Gyarados (5%). And the Super Rod provides Whiscash (60%), Carvanha (35%), and Gyarados (5%). If you use the Binoculars before getting the National Dex , you will get a 10% to see these Pokemon: Carnivine, Roselia, Drapion, Skorupi, Golduck, Staravia, Croagunk, and Toxicroak. And after you get the National Dex, these Pokemon will then appear, also with a 10% chance: Gulpin, Exeggcute, Kangaskhan, Paras, Shroomish, and Yanma.

Here's how to get to the Great Marsh, defeat Crasher Wake, and move the Psyduck blocking the path in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.

This is part ten of our official Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl complete guide and walkthrough , which picks up right after you finally reach Pastoria City , home of The Great Marsh and Crasher Wake .

Now that you’re in Pastoria City, it’s about time you earned your fourth gym badge. First, however, you might want to consider a wander around the illustrious Great Marsh, which is essentially Sinnoh’s version of the beloved Safari Zone from earlier generations.

The Great Marsh is accessible through a conspicuously placed building at the top of the city, which is one of the first points of interest you’ll see coming from Route 213. While the idea of a Safari Zone-esque area teeming with all kinds of rare Pokemon is exciting, it’s important not to rush in. Once you enter the building, take the stairs up to the upper level and use the binoculars repeatedly until you find a Pokemon you want. This allows you to pinpoint exactly where you can encounter the Pokemon you’re after. If you see nothing you like, don’t be too discouraged - some of the Pokemon here are rotated in and out on a daily basis, so you can just come back and try again tomorrow. On top of that, the first time you go you'll always get something of value anyway given that the green-haired person next to the entrance gifts you the HM for Defog. That's not to mention that the Great Marsh is clearly Pastoria's pride and joy.

Well, maybe that’s not a fair statement. As with most local gym leaders, Crasher Wake is a popular character among the citizens of Pastoria. Specialising in Water Pokemon, you might reckon Wake isn’t going to pack too much of a punch - nobody ever has trouble with Misty and Wallace is traditionally seen as one of the weakest final gym leaders in the entire series. Wake, however, is made of different stuff to his aqueous associates. As he clearly states before your battle, he has every intention of pulling you under.

If you’re having trouble with Crasher Wake, don’t beat yourself up. The vast majority of people - particularly those who are on their first adventure through Sinnoh - hit a major roadblock in Pastoria Gym. All you really need to know is that Roselia is a brilliant counter to his team after Gyarados goes down. If you use a Luxio to score a 4x Electric hit on Gyarados, and then swap to Roselia to take down Quagsire with a 4x Mega or Giga Drain, you've basically won the game without even trying, right?

After you beat Wake and earn the Fen Badge, it’s time to head back out into Pastoria City. In order to advance the storyline, you need to head towards The Great Marsh and speak to the Galactic grunt next to the entrance, although it’s important to make sure you heal up at the Pokemon Centre first. After you talk to the grunt, he’ll run away and tell you not to follow him, which means you should obviously follow him. You’ll bump into him again just a short walk to the east, at which time he’ll run away again and your rival will challenge you to a fight. At this point they should have a level 26 Starly and level 31 middle evolution starters, as well as two of either Roselia, Ponyta, or Buizel, which will be levels 26 and 27. After beating Wake, this should be a bit of a cakewalk, so I wouldn’t fret too much about it.

After beating your rival, continue through to Route 213 and keep heading east until you meet the Galactic grunt again. Follow him repeatedly until you get to Valor Lakefront, at which point he will challenge you to a battle. He’s not particularly tough so you’ll likely make short work of him. After you win, Cynthia will show up and give you the Secret Medicine necessary for moving the Psyduck from Route 210.

At the market in Sunyshore City, the shop at the top left sells Stickers (formerly known as Seals), which you can use to customize your Pokeball! The Stickers on sale changes every day .

Jubilife TV Lottery Corner

At the first floor of the Jubilife TV station, you can take part in the lottery at the counter once a day . The lottery numbers need to match any of your Pokemon's ID numbers in order for you to win a prize. The lottery checks the IDs of the Pokemon on your team and in your PC Boxes .

You will receive various items depending on how many numbers match. If you match just the last digit, you will receive a backdrop for your PC Boxes. If you match all digits, you will receive a Master Ball .

Veilstone City Massages

In Veilstone City , the Massage Girl is located in the house south of the Gym. You can have a Pokemon receive a massage from her once per day . Giving a Pokemon a massage improves their friendship with you, the trainer. Additonally, after completing the massage, the Massage Girl may find Stickers , which can be used for Capsule Decoration .

How to Get Massages

Trophy Garden

Located behind the Pokemon Mansion on Route 212 , the Trophy Garden is a place you can catch rare Pokemon. Talk to the mansion's owner, Mr. Backlot, and he will tell you what Pokemon will be found in the Trophy Garden for that day . That Pokemon can be encountered in the garden for the next 24 hours.

Once you obtain the National Dex , Pokemon not native to Sinnoh can be encountered in the garden.

Solaceon Town News Press

A man at the News Press in Solaceon Town will give you a random type of Poke Ball if you show him the Pokemon he is asking for. He asks to be shown a Pokemon from the Sinnoh Dex once per day and you have 24 hours to comply . The Pokemon needs to be in your party for you to show it to him.

Free Berries

You can get 1 random berry for free from the Berry Master ( Route 208 ), a girl in the Pick a Peck of Colors Flower Shop ( Floaroma Town ), and a woman inside the house to the southwest ( Pastoria City ) once per day, for a total of 3 free berries a day.

Receive a Belt in Route 221

Inside the house to the north of Route 221 , you can talk to an old man who will ask you to show him a Pokemon with a certain level. After showing him the Pokemon, you will receive a random belt as a reward. The number will change every 24 hours.

Get a Ribbon from Julia

Receive a free ribbon from Julia once a day in the house to the northeast of Sunyshore City . She will give you one ribbon for each day of the week, which is great for those trying to collect ribbons to get into the Ribbon Syndicate .

Drifloon at Valley Windworks

After defeating Team Galactic at the Valley Windworks , a Drifloon will appear in the overworld of the Valley Windworks every Friday. This weekly event ends at 12 midnight of Saturday. This is the only way to catch a Drifloon yourself in the Sinnoh games.

Fight Rival in Fight Area

In the Fight Area of the Battle Zone, you can fight your rival anytime during the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). This is the final area you fight your rival, so he has his strongest team.

You can defeat your rival repeatedly and, unlike the previous rival battles, you interact with him to start the battle, instead of him randomly appearing to challenge you.

2024 Bellsprout Community Day Runtime

The Bellsprout Community Day will be live on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 , from 2:00PM to 5:00PM local time .

Bellsprout will appear more frequently in the wild for the duration of this event:

Bellsprout Community Day Featured Attack

Evolve Weepinbell during the event (or up to five hours afterward) to get a Victreebel that knows the Fast Attack Magical Leaf.

• Gyms & Raids : 16 Power

Bellsprout Community Day Special Research

For US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access the Bellsprout Community Day–exclusive Special Research story.

Bellsprout Community Day Field Research

Field Research tasks will be available to complete, earning you additional encounters with Bellsprout, alongside Great Balls, Stardust, and other rewards!

Bellsprout Community Day Event Bonuses

The following bonuses will be in effect during the event:

• 3× Stardust for catching Pokemon
• 2× Candy for catching Pokemon
• 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catching Pokemon
• Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours
• Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours
• Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise
• One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of two for the day
• Trades will require 50% less Stardust

Bellsprout Community Day Raid Battles

On the day of the Community Day, from 5:00PM to 10:00PM local time , you'll be able to partake in special 4-Star Raid Battles with Weepinbell . By winning these Raids, additional Bellsprout will appear around the Gym that hosted the raid for 30 minutes.

Bellsprout Community Day Stickers

Event-themed stickers will be available via spinning PokeStops, opening Gits, and purchasing them in the in-game shop!
