Understand [ edit ]

west kelowna tourist information centre

Located on the west side of Okanagan Lake this stunning community offers lush trellised vineyards, mountain biking trails, hiking paths, skiing, beaches and spas.

Prior to incorporation in 2007, West Kelowna was commonly known as Westbank. The municipality is home to more than 25,000 people. Pride in the community's deep agricultural roots continues today with row upon row of orchards and vineyards and even the country's first nut farm.

Map

By car [ edit ]

Most travellers will arrive in Westbank/West Kelowna by car. Highway 97 is the major highway through the community with Kelowna & Vernon to the north and Peachland, Summerland and Penticton to the south. Highway 97C (the Coquihalla Connector) also offers access to the community, which is the route most people from Vancouver travel.

By plane [ edit ]

The Kelowna International Airport is a 25-minute drive away in Kelowna.

By boat [ edit ]

There are several boat launches with parking facilities along the lakeshore, and they can get quite busy in the summer months.

Get around [ edit ]

By public transit [ edit ].

  • Bus route 22 operates between Peachland and West Kelowna.
  • Bus route 97 is a limited stop frequent route. It travels between the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus (UBCO) and West Kelowna with stops in Rutland and downtown Kelowna. At most hours, it is the only option to cross Okanagan Lake between Kelowna, and West Kelowna and Peachland.

The legal drinking age is 19 in BC. Anyone under 19 is a minor and not permitted in nightclubs & most pubs (some pubs allow families during certain times of the day; others do not). In restaurants a minor cannot purchase alcoholic beverages.  This applies at wineries and wine tastings. In BC, there are serious consequences if you’re caught driving with a blood-alcohol content between 0.05 and 0.08. These include steep fines, having your license suspended, and even losing your car.  Only book wine tours with a company that picks up and drops off at your hotel so you can avoid  driving over the legal limit.

TIPPING & GRATUITIES

The goods and services tax (GST) of 5% will apply to various goods and services you purchase during your stay in Canada. An additional 7% Provincial Sales Tax  (PST) applies to certain purchases. 2% city levy is charged on hotel, motel and resort accommodations in Kelowna.  All these taxes are added on top of the posted price, unless otherwise noted.

Can you get intoxicated on wine tours? The level of intoxication during a wine tour is at your discretion. It’s crucial to manage your alcohol intake responsibly, and you don’t have to consume every drop in your glass. Wineries often provide spittoons, and pouring out excess wine is perfectly acceptable, offering a thoughtful approach to tasting. If you’re interested in learning more about responsible wine tour practices, you can find additional information here .

Kelowna Named Host City for Country Music Week 2025 and the 2025 CCMA Awards Presented by TD

The Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) proudly announced today that Kelowna has been selected as the host city for Country Music Week 2025 and the 2025 CCMA Awards presented by TD .

This marks the first time the event takes place in Kelowna and only the third time it's been hosted in BC.  Country Music Week was created in 1977 to increase awareness and exposure for Canada's country music artists. Over the years, the event has grown and evolved. Today, Country Music Week is made up of three distinct components: a music festival, a music industry conference, and the televised awards show, which is Canada's biggest night in country music.

“We are thrilled to bring the CCMA Awards presented by TD to Kelowna in September 2025,” said Amy Jeninga, President of the Canadian Country Music Association. “Kelowna’s blend of natural beauty, vibrant culture, and hospitality makes it the perfect setting for this prestigious event. The city’s unique charm, complemented by its urban energy, will showcase the best in Canadian country music.”

Events of this calibre offer a welcome economic boost for the local community, building up visitation during months when availability is higher. Country Music Week 2025 is forecast to generate over 2,000 room nights (not counting fans or families), resulting in an estimated economic impact of over $11 million in Kelowna and BC . Country Music Week 2023, held in Hamilton, saw an economic impact of $11.2 million , with over $1.2 million in tax revenues. Over 80% of the attendees were from out of the region and travelled to Hamilton for the event.

As thousands of people descend upon Kelowna, the Cultural District will come alive with music and excitement as events occur across multiple venues during the four-day music festival. Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy live performances by some of the biggest names in country music and be introduced to a new generation of up-and-coming talent. The week will be capped off with the 2025 CCMA Awards presented by TD , which will take place at Prospera Place .

"We are very pleased to partner in Kelowna's successful bid to host Country Music Week for the first time in our beautiful destination," says Tourism Kelowna's President & CEO Lisanne Ballantyne. "This is a high-profile, national event that will bring major economic impact to the Okanagan Valley, driving value to our local accommodations, businesses, and community. We look forward to showcasing our creative and cultural energy in Kelowna, and encourage guests to start planning now to join fellow fans and Canada’s biggest country music stars for an incredible week in September 2025.”

Downtown Ellis Street Aerial Fall

“Kelowna's successful bid to host the 2025 Canadian Country Music Association Awards presented by TD reflects the strength of our music sector in the province. It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase B.C.’s unique cultural scene, opening doors to new opportunities for our talent base,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. “We can’t wait to roll out the red carpet for country music enthusiasts and artists to discover the beauty and warm hospitality of Kelowna. Get ready for a nation-wide celebration of Canadian country music in our own backyard!”

“Canadian Country Music Week and the CCMA Awards presented by TD in Kelowna are the stuff dreams are made of for BC’s performers and industry professionals,” said Bob D’Eith, Parliamentary Secretary for Arts and Film. “Not only is this a celebration of our shared love for country music, but it’s also an opportunity for British Columbians to showcase their tremendous talent, foster connections that help develop their careers, and treat us all to incredible entertainment. I'm confident this event will be a resounding success, bringing together artists, fans, and industry professionals to celebrate the best of Canadian country music and everything Kelowna has to offer.”

2025 is gearing up to be an exciting year for residents and businesses in Kelowna. Two of the largest events in Canada are being held in the city, with Canada's premier curling event, the Montana's Brier , taking place in March 2025 and now Country Music Week in September 2025. In addition to attending these events, visitors to our region will explore restaurants, eateries, and coffee shops, share tastings at breweries and wineries, and visit local attractions

Both events were secured in part through Tourism Kelowna's Major Events Strategy in partnership with the City of Kelowna. This collaboration positioned Kelowna as the perfect host for the 2025 Country Music Week, with our team assisting in preparing the bid document, securing funding, and nurturing key relationships with the Canadian Country Music Association ,  Creative BC , the Province of BC, and key local stakeholders.

“The city of Kelowna is excited to welcome the 2025 CCMA Awards presented by TD and Canadian  Country Music Week ," shares Mayor Tom Dyas. "Since 1977, Country Music Week has only twice been hosted in British Columbia and what better city to welcome it back than Kelowna. The city’s country music scene is a vibrant part of our community, and we look forward to showcasing our thriving cultural scene, and world-class hospitality while welcoming some of Canada’s most talented country artists.”

Country Music Week 2025 and the 2025 CCMA Awards presented by TD promise to deliver a week of unforgettable experiences in Kelowna— sign up  through the CCMA website to be the first to receive presale access.
