Few Hollywood figures have had a better 2022 than Tom Cruise .

“Top Gun: Maverick” was as big of a success as you can possibly get, earning rave reviews while dominating the box office for months and proving there is still an audience for Cruise’s brand of high quality blockbuster filmmaking. The film had the kind of staying power that most blockbusters can only dream of. Paramount even re-released the film in theaters for a two-week run earlier this month. The film begins streaming on Paramount+ on Thursday, December 22.

Naturally, Cruise wanted to thank his fans for the success of the film but the daredevil actor doesn’t do anything the conventional way. Football fans were reminded of that during a commercial that aired during CBS’ Sunday NFL coverage. In a video taped from the set of the upcoming “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning” films, Cruise thanked his fans for his remarkable year.

“Hey everyone,” Cruise said from the plane. “Here we are over stunning South Africa, where we’re filming ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’ parts one and two. And I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters and thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’”

He was promptly interrupted by “Dead Reckoning” director (and “Top Gun: Maverick” screenwriter) Christopher McQuarrie , who playfully told him to keep his remarks brief so they could get the shot of Cruise jumping out of a plane. Cruise happily obliged and jumped into the sky — but he wasn’t done talking.

“Where was I?” he asked while free falling. “Oh yeah. Thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime.”

As he got closer to the ground, Cruise understandably needed to cut the announcement short, but not before he wished his fans a happy holiday season.

“I’m running out of altitude, so I have to get back to work. We have to get this shot. You have a very safe and happy holiday, we’ll see you at the movies.”

Tom Cruise kicks off his Oscar campaign the only way he knows how: leaping from a plane

In a new commercial, the top gun: maverick star shows support for his fans in a classically supercharged manner.

Tom Cruise

Whether it’s “ Babe Ruth- ing ” movie theaters, developing a star-making musical , or preparing to become the first civilian to walk in space , Tom Cruise’s day-to-day is far from ordinary or low-key. Naturally, that ethos extends to a recent commercial starring the Top Gun: Maverick actor (and effectively kicking off his Oscar campaign.)

In the clip, which aired during Sunday Night Football on CBS, Cruise thanks fans for supporting the film and going out to the movie theater. The twist? The entire chat happens as Cruise jumps out of a helicopter hovering above the South African set of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning , demonstrating that he’s nothing if not a multitasker.

“I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theater, and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick ,” Cruise says while hanging out of the aircraft manned by Dead Reckoning ’s director (and Top Gun: Maverick ’s writer), Christopher McQuarrie. Before Cruise takes his big leap of faith, he asks if McQuarrie plans on joining him in the open air.

“Not on your life— good luck,” McQuarrie responds. An unfazed Cruise then languidly sits back until he tumbles out of the plane.

“Thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick ! As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime,” Cruise muses as he careens through the air, seemingly unbothered. “Yeah. Very Lucky.”

Top Gun: Maverick , far and away the blockbuster of the year, will finally be available for streaming on Paramount+ December 22. Paramount even briefly brought back the film (which achieved record numbers during a dismal year for the box office) to theaters for a two-week run last month.

Concluding his video message (as, by his own admission, he “runs out of altitude” ), Cruise again encourages fans back to the movies.

“You have a very safe and happy holiday,” Cruise tells the audience, before spinning off into the distance. “We’ll see you at the movies.”

It's been two and a half years since the first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick , the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 flyboy classic, but four delays later — we're almost feeling that need, the need for ... you know, speed and what not.

The NFL dropped, I guess , what one would call a trailer for a football game — the epic showdown between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs for today's AFC Championship. The organization recruited none other than Tom Cruise to set the stage, as it were, for the big showdown, as well as to treat pigskin lovers to a few high-flying clips from the definitely upcoming Top Gun .

"Two teams coming off heart-pounding wins, two organizations on the edge of history, both committed to being the best of the best," says Cruise, with a wink or two to his cinematic aviation roots.

The trailer weaved in footage from T op Gun: Maverick , peppered in between shots of the AFC teams in full play mode. "The stage is set," says Cruise, "it's the Kansas City Chiefs against the Cincinnati Bengals and a dogfight for the AFC Championship. So, let's kick the tires and light the fires, because the time is now."

One fire was certainly lit, as the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, and are heading to Super Bowl LVI to face off against the Los Angeles Rams on Feb. 13. Meanwhile, Top Gun: Maverick will soar into theaters May 27 to take our breath away, again.

Watch: tom cruise's 90 second 'mission: impossible' franchise recap.

by Alex Billington February 11, 2024 Source: Twitter

Tom Cruise - Mission Impossible

"Light the fuse…" Paramount+ has revealed a Super Bowl TV spot for the Mission: Impossible movies . Our guess is that this was originally meant to be a big preview for Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two , which was set to release in June 2024 following Part One last summer. Thanks to the strikes last year, that sequel has been delayed for another year entirely - and they aren't calling it " Dead Reckoning Part Two " anymore either. We'll have to wait for an update on this one - which is expected around May 2025 now. In the meantime, it looks like they kept this airtime and made this Mission: Impossible franchise recap video instead. Tom Cruise's account tweeted out the video with this amusing note: "It's hard to put all 7 films into 90 seconds , but we certainly had fun trying." This 90-second video features a few of the most iconic stunts: the Burj Khalifa, the airplane, the motorcycle cliff, the train in the tunnel, and a few others, but not all of them. It's much more focused on all the action than story! I'm still hopeful that the 8th movie will end up being awesome, too. So what do you think: is this really the greatest action franchise of all-time?

Here's the 2024 Super Bowl TV spot for Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible movies, direct from YouTube :

Mission: Impossible Movies

For another franchise recap enjoy the official Tom Cruise Running in Mission: Impossible Since 1996 video .

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is again directed by American filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie , director of the movies The Way of the Gun , Jack Reacher , plus both Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation & Fallout previously. The screenplay is also by Christopher McQuarrie. Based on the television series created by Bruce Geller. Produced by Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams, Christopher McQuarrie, David Ellison, and Jake Myers. Paramount Pictures already released McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning in theaters worldwide on July 12th, 2023 last summer. ( Rewatch the first teaser trailer . ) The follow-up Mission Impossible 8 has been rescheduled to launch in May 2025 .

Tom Cruise Pulls Off Insane Sky-Diving Stunt To Promote Next 'Mission: Impossible' Movie, Thanks Audiences For 'Top Gun: Maverick' Success

Tom Cruise kicks ass.

The 60-year-old movie star, who has a penchant for pulling off death-defying stunts to entertain the masses, returned to the silver screen with a new commercial that aired during NFL football on Sunday.

In the commercial, Cruise filmed himself jumping out of a plane that soared over a South African movie set to celebrate the box office juggernaut that was Top Gun: Maverick , while promoting his upcoming Mission: Impossible sequel, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One (the seventh installment in the franchise).

In the commercial, Cruise thanked viewers who attended theaters to propel Top Gun: Maverick over the billion-dollar worldwide box office mark as people feared going out to the cinema during COVID and without the help of China's box office, which took offense to the film's pro-American messaging.

RELATED: ‘TOP GUN: MAVERICK’ PROVES AMERICA NEEDED A WIN

While Marvel and Disney movies continue to bend the knee to China, Cruise remains cavalier in his approach to moviemaking and truly leaves it all out on the set.

Whether it's against movie villains or stomping the worldwide box office during the age of COVID, Cruise is devoid of all fear that stands in the way of getting the job done. And he's back at it again.

Maverick was a hell of a win for Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie, who is re-teaming with Cruise for the final two films scheduled in the Impossible franchise.

Simply put, no one does it like Cruise in today's movies.

The unabashed love for a cinematic experience, often at the risk of his own health, further proves that Cruise is likely the last true American action star to grace the big screen.

From climbing the Burj Khalifa; hanging off the side of a plane; flying a real F-14 jet for Top Gun: Maverick ; to now sky-diving for a film promo, Cruise is as fearless as ever.

Best of all, Top Gun: Maverick hits streaming via Paramount+ on Dec. 22. Time to fly high.

Tom Cruise shared holiday cheer with fans in the most Tom Cruise way possible: skydiving toward the sea.

On Sunday, Paramount Pictures released a video announcing that “Top Gun: Maverick” would be coming to Paramount+ this week. Helping the studio spread the message was “Top Gun” star Cruise, in goggles and skydiving gear.

The actor, filming new “Mission Impossible” movies in South Africa, began the clip with some words of gratitude for all the moviegoers who brought his latest film to box office heights .

“I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theater,” he said, “and thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’”

Then, after “Mission Impossible” director Christopher McQuarrie told Cruise, “We gotta get this shot,” the actor fell back into the sky and began free falling.

“Where was I? Oh yeah. Thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun: Maverick’!” Cruise continued midair. “As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime.”

“Top Gun: Maverick” was released in May. Since then the action flick, a sequel to the original 1986 film, has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, according to Deadline .

In “Top Gun: Maverick,” Cruise reprised his role as Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, starring alongside Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer,Miles Teller and Glen Powell .

He concluded the video plunging toward the ground while wishing viewers a “very safe and happy holiday.” The “Top Gun” star — who prides himself on performing his own stunts — might have a different definition of “safe.”

“We’ll see you at the movies,” he said, before spinning rapidly closer to the ocean.

Tom Cruise wants to fix your TV by turning off motion smoothing

Please -- it's ruining your movies..

Proving that his heroism is not merely limited to on-screen antics, Tom Cruise has starred in a video spreading awareness of a scourge impacting all too many televisions: motion smoothing. It's the setting in almost all new HDTVs and 4K TVs that's usually turned on by default and can turn everything into a slightly-too-smooth soap opera-looking mess.

It works by using a processor to create new frames in between the 24 or 30 frames per second your video is usually being delivered in so that everything moves smoothly across the screen. That can be fine for fast moving live action like sports, but for movies and many TV shows it changes the look entirely and not in a good way.

Since that's not the way directors like Christopher McQuarrie ( Mission: Impossible - Fallout and Top Gun - Maverick ) and or stars intended for you to watch their movies, most people recommend turning it off. The only problem is, not everyone knows about it, or where to look. We've written up some instructions for the settings you should adjust on any new TV and they will help you deal with this, as well as other on-by-default switches. Only you can stop 240Hz TruMotion, Motion Smoothing Effect or Auto Motion Plus (all brand names this motion interpolation technology goes by) from ruining your next movie night.

I'm taking a quick break from filming to tell you the best way to watch Mission: Impossible Fallout (or any movie you love) at home. pic.twitter.com/oW2eTm1IUA — Tom Cruise (@TomCruise) December 4, 2018

Amid the glitz and glamour of Victoria Beckham 's extravagant 50th birthday bash, Tom Cruise showcased a moment of chivalry as he helped a photographer who had stumbled outside the venue.

The Top Gun actor, exuding his trademark suave demeanor in a sharp black suit and shades, diverted from entering the festivities to assist the paparazzo, who had taken a tumble. With effortless grace, the 61-year-old extended a helping hand, swiftly grasping the photographer's arm and aiding him back to his feet.

Victoria's milestone celebration unfolded in grandeur at Oswald's in Mayfair, London, where she spared no expense in orchestrating an unforgettable evening. Accompanied by her husband, David, and their brood of Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, the fashion icon radiated jubilance as she marked the occasion in style.

Among the star-studded guests were Victoria's fellow Spice Girls  -- Melanie Chisholm , Geri Halliwell ,  Emma Bunton  and  Melanie Brown  -- all arriving to revel in the festivities. Cruise himself, alongside Victoria's close confidante Eva Longoria, crooner Marc Anthony, and a plethora of other renowned personalities, converged on the exclusive members' bar.

An eyewitness tells ET, "Tom was in amazing spirits while celebrating Victoria’s birthday. He had great energy and was dancing throughout the entire night. He had so much fun."

On Saturday, David, 48, treated his Instagram followers to a special performance from Victoria's 50th birthday celebration: a Spice Girls reunion.

"I mean come on x @victoriabeckham @melaniecmusic @officialmelb @emmaleebunton @gerihalliwellhorner 💚💛🧡💜💙," David captioned the post.

In the video, the camera pans to Victoria (Posh Spice), Geri (Ginger Spice), Emma (Baby Spice), Mel B (Scary Spice) and Mel C (Sporty Spice) all in a line doing their iconic dance moves while singing their hit, "Stop."

While the Spice Girls are in action during the moment, David sings along with the rest of the room.

Victoria celebrated the moment on her respective Instagram.

"Best night ever! Happy Birthday to me! I love you all so much! #SpiceUpYourLife," the fashion designer captioned the video.

Mel B also shared the video on her Instagram alongside a cheeky caption.

"About last night #tourdatescomingsoon," she wrote on the video.

Meanwhile, Emma posed with Mel C prior to the party.

"Off to celebrate our special girl @victoriabeckham #spicegirls #holdontoyournickersgirls," she captioned the post featuring her and Mel C posing in their gowns.

The Spice Girls reunion comes one month after the group marked the 30th anniversary of their auditions. The last time the women officially reunited was for their tour in 2013, though Victoria notably skipped out on it.

"Today marks the 30th anniversary of the very first Spice Girls auditions!" they wrote last month. "What started back in 1994 has turned into an amazing journey, way beyond anything we could have ever imagined. Thank you to our fans for your support from day one #FriendshipNeverEnds ."

In the video montage, set to their 1996 hit, "Wannabe," the women are shown dancing and goofing around with each other while wearing casual '90s outfits.

In January, Mel B opened up about the bond the women share after three decades of friendship.

"I was a Spice Girl at the age of 17. I'm old," she told Jennifer Hudson at the time. "I'm feeling old right now. But it is amazing that we've managed to kind of still stay friends. It's been 30 years. What you go through as a group... you are just welded together for life because you've been through such a crazy experience."
