5 RV Storage Tips Before You Begin…
1. Take Stock
Write down everything you have. I know, this is a monstrous task, but there really is no better way to organize your RV or small space than by knowing exactly what you have.
2. Purge the Useless Items
Do you really need 12 drinking cups and 20 plates? Unless you have a huge family, I doubt it. I’m a culprit, too. I have 3 pairs of sunglasses. I don’t need them, but… y’know. Everyone has those things they just don’t want to get rid of.
As fulltimers, we plan to get rid of everything we don’t use at least once per year. If you’re not living in an RV , I recommend doing this after every RV trip.
3. Designate a Place for Everything
And I do mean everything . Keys, your fly swatter, loose change, bike helmets, the RV trash can — you name it. It’s the only way you’ll ever get your RV to stay organized.
4. Use the “One In, One Out” Rule
This is a great way to stay on top of your organization goals. Anytime you bring something new into the RV, the old one should go out. For example…
If you bring a new sweater into the RV, an old sweater should be removed.
This rule will help you upgrade old stuff without keeping tons of unnecessary clutter.
5. Stick to a Cleaning Schedule
With a house that moves, you have to put everything away before you start your drive. However, when you stay in one spot for any length of time (we sometimes stay at one site for over a month), daily cleaning can be overlooked and clutter builds up. No amount of RV storage ideas will help you if you don’t develop a routine.
We have a daily morning routine of cleaning up after breakfast.
Once we’re finished eating in the morning, I like to take 20 minutes to wash the dishes and pick up anything lying around. By doing a small pickup session daily, the cleaning is more manageable and never becomes a huge hassle.
Now — on to the RV storage ideas!
RV Kitchen Space Saving Ideas
Here are a few RV space saving ideas:
1. Put a Free-Standing Drawer Unit in a Cupboard (Secure w/ Bungee)
These under sink drawer units are fantastic, and can be one of the best ways to use RV cabinet space that may otherwise be wasted. Secure them with bungee cords to keep them from opening on the move.
2. Get an Over-The-Door or Door-Mounted RV Trash Can
An RV trash can on the floor takes up a lot of space… but you need a trash can. Trust me – I went weeks without a trash can in the RV and it’s a huge pain. This over-the-door trash can saves space and is totally out of the way!
3. Use Storage Bins in Your RV Shelves
Storage bins are probably the number one most important piece of the RV organization puzzle. We have a dozen, and could probably use two dozen more. You can use them in cupboards, drawers, and in the outside storage compartments. Label them for bonus points!
4. Replace Your Tea Kettle with This Foldable One
Cookware can be the biggest space sucker of all the items in your RV. If you like to heat your water with a kettle, getting a collapsible tea kettle will save you a lot of room and headaches. You can also get collapsible colanders / cutting board and even collapsible pots !
5. Replace Mixing Bowls with Stackable Nesting Bowls
Nesting bowls are a go-to RV space-saving idea. We basically stopped using bowls in the RV until we found these because they just take up so much room. One of those “bowls” is actually a colander, which is great.
6. Use Dish Cradles to Maximize RV Cabinet Space
These are way up on our wish list. Stacking dishes vertically in a dish cradle makes them take up less space and, more importantly, makes it easier to get them out without needing to take anything off the top of them.
7. Install a Hanging Basket for Fruit
If you can find a spot to put a hanging basket , they’re great. Kayla and I don’t really have anywhere we could put one, so unfortunately, we don’t have one.
8. Get a Roll-Up Sink Rack
Having an above-the-sink rack, rather than a countertop one, frees up that precious counter space. This model even rolls up for easy storage.
9. Install a Peg Board
We don’t have a spot for one of these ourselves, but I wish we did. A peg board on the wall looks like a really cool, easy way to organize the unorganizable: pots and pans.
10. Buy Tons of Suction Cup Hooks
The suction cup hook pictured above is from our shower, and this thing works wonders! I love anything you can use to hang stuff without putting holes anywhere because we’re planning on selling our RV when we’re done and want to keep its value.
11. Fruit Hammocks
If you’re like us and can’t find room for the hanging baskets, these fruit hammocks might work for you instead. I like them because the fruit ripens evenly so you don’t get spots over-ripened.
12. Paper Plate Dispenser
Another item high on our wish list is this awesome paper plate dispenser .
13. Under Cabinet Shelf Baskets
This wire shelf can be installed right under a cabinet and will save tons of RV cabinet and counter space.
14. Dangling Mason Jars
This one’s cool, and affordable. Just get some mason jars and screw them into the ceiling to store small stuff!
15. Wall-Mounted Magnetic Strips
A wall-mounted magnetic strip is high on our wishlist as a way to store our knives. Put them away while driving, though – you don’t want them to come flying off the wall if you crash!!
16. Magnetize Your Cutting Board to the Underside of a Cabinet
Get some magnets to glue on the back of your cutting board , and a sheet of metal to install under your cupboard: Boom, your cutting board is organized and out of the way.
17. Use Curtain Tension Rods Vertically
You’ve probably heard of using curtain tension rods in cupboards to keep things from falling out. But, have you thought of using them vertically to organize things? Try it out!
18. Under-The-Sink Storage
This under cabinet storage shelf is handy in the kitchen as well as the bathroom to keep your cleaning supplies organized and tidy!
19. Airtight Square Canisters
Tupperware is one of the greatest things for storing food, but they can be hard to organize, to say the least. These square canisters (which are also airtight) are great for maximizing your storage space !
20. Spice Gripper Clips
Like I said, spices can be a pain to organize. These are another item high on our wishlist – spice gripper clips !
21. Magnetic Spice Holder (Use Caution!)
These are super popular, so I wanted to mention them. Just be wary of these magnetized spice racks , because Nikki Wynn from Gone With the Wynns said they didn’t work well for her. Maybe she didn’t set it up right, but I’d rather not deal with spice all over my floor to find out.
22. Knife Safe by Camping World
A good alternative to the magnetic strip for storing knives is the knife safe by Camping World . I’m still not sure I would leave them in this while driving, though.
23. Food Dispensers
Wall-mounted dry food dispensers are a great way to free up some cupboard and counter space. Just put the contents in and toss the packaging! It makes it easier to get to your food, too.
24. Floating Wine Rack
A floating wine rack probably isn’t your first idea to store wine glasses in your RV, but hey, you gotta have dreams of wine, right?
25. Lazy Susans
If you don’t know what a Lazy Susan is (I didn’t before I did some research on organization), it’s basically a plate that spins (just like the glass plate in your microwave). They are awesome! You can use them in the fridge or in cupboards to easily get to stuff in the back.
26. Divided Organizers
These Clothes Storage Bags are another great way to save space. You can store drinkware, clothes, accessories, and more! You can create your own with a box and some cardboard dividers left over from packages if you want to be thrifty.
27. Use Towel Rods to Hold Pot Lids
Pot lids are the worst things to find space for. They are awkward and never sit right. Just use a curtain rod to hold them on the back of a cupboard!
28. Under-Shelf Baskets
You can use under-shelf baskets to add more storage space to your cupboards – and under the shelves in your fridge!
29. Organize Bakeware with a Pan Organizer
Who says pan organizers are only for pans? Put your baking trays in them, too!
30. Magazine Rack Can Organizer
You can use magazine racks to organize the cans in your cupboard; plus, it will stop them from rolling around and making a mess.
31. Bungee Your RV Trash Can to the Wall
Sometimes an over-the-door trash can is just too small, and you need something bigger. Just take a bigger trash can and use some bungee cords and eye hooks to tie it to the wall; viola, a mobile-ready RV trash can that’s out of the way!
32. Use Old Wipe Containers to Store Plastic Bags
Plastic bags tend to accumulate and take up way too much space. Instead of stuffing them in a dark corner of your RV, use an old wipe container to organize them!
33. Repurpose Coffee Creamer Containers
If you’re a coffee lover like we are, you’ve probably thrown out a lot of coffee creamer bottles. Next time you find yourself running out of creamer, keep the bottle, clean it, and reuse it to store food! It takes up less space than most packaging.
34. Combine a Shower Caddy with a Command Hook to Make a Produce Rack
35. Store Garbage Bags on a Paper Towel Holder
Paper towel holders can be used to hold tons of different things. Use them to store your garbage bags for easy access!
36. Or – Store Them in an Old Juice Bottle
If you can’t find space for a paper towel rod, an old juice bottle will work to store bags. It may not store the whole roll, but it’s an easy way to get your bags out.
37. Collapsible RV Trash Can
If you haven’t already figured it out, I love collapsible stuff. This collapsible trash can takes up virtually no space, and it has plenty of room as an everyday trash can.
38. Thumbtack Sandwich Baggies Inside Cabinet Doors
Thumbtacks can perform miracles. Just pin your sandwich baggie boxes right to the back of a cupboard!
RV Storage Ideas for the Bathroom
39. make your own towel caddy.
If you’re a creative type, you can combine a towel with some buttons and sewing skills to create one of these cool shower caddies.
40. Use a Shoe Organizer as a Towel Holder
via Pinterest
41. Hanging Containers
I couldn’t find the plastic containers from Ikea they used in the picture, but you can use these ones from eBay instead.
42. Elastic First Aid Holder
All those creams and ointments can get pretty unorganized if left laying in the medicine cabinet. You can easily store and organize them by stapling an elastic band around them to hold them in place!
43. Create a Toiletry Holder with an Old Coat Hanger
You can use an old metal coat hanger and some screws to keep your toiletries organized and in place as you travel.
44. Hook Dispensers
You can take a page out of Anna Moseley’s book and install some hooks in the wall to create an aluminum foil dispenser. It keeps the box from taking up room on the counter and makes it easy to get to; win-win!
45. Storage Pods
Use command strips to hang plastic toiletry holders !
46. Handmade Extra Toilet Roll Storage
They’re a little pricey, but if you like these extra toilet paper roll holders, you can get them on Etsy .
47. Shampoo Dispenser
Our RV shower has this nifty shampoo dispenser . There’s a big lack of shelf space in our RV shower, so this comes in handy.
48. Command Strip Broom Holder
Organize your brooms and mops with a command strip broom gripper .
49. Command Strip Necklace Holder
My grandma got us this necklace organizer for Kayla, and she loves it. It’s the best way to store her necklaces while also making them easy to get to.
50. Collapsible Laundry Basket
If you need a laundry basket in your RV, try this collapsible one to save some space!
51. Laundry Bag
Alternatively, you could do what I have done and get a laundry bag . Ours isn’t like this backpack version, though – we wish it was!
52. Store Bobby Pins in an Old Tic Tac Container
Try out this cool project by Chelsea from Lovely Indeed . Turn an old tic tac container into a bobby pin holder!
53. Hang Spice Racks for Bathroom Supplies
Paint Ikea spice racks to match your bathroom cabinet, then use them as storage shelves for bathroom supplies.
54. Over-the-Cabinet Hair Dryer Holder
The container store sells this nifty over-the-door hair dryer and supply caddy .
55. Tape Together Coffee Cans for TP Storage
You can cut the bottoms of some old coffee cans and tape them together and paint them to match your decor! Easy toilet paper storage.
56. Use a Dry Foods Container as a Small Waste Basket
If you’re looking for a small, out-of-the-way trash can, use an old dry foods container.
RV Bedroom Storage Solutions
57. remodel your bunkbed into a closet or office.
This is a travel trailer space saving idea since most motorhomes don’t have bunk beds. It can be annoying having space used for something you simply don’t need or want there. If you have a bunk bed, but don’t use it, you probably feel the same way.
If you’re feeling crafty, try converting that space into an office to get the most out of every square inch of your rig.
58. Portable Filing Folder Bag
Keeping good records is really important, especially for those of us self-employed. It can be hard to find room to keep track of this stuff, which is why you should get one of these .
59. Make a Storage Headboard
If you’re good at stitching, this is an interesting project to undertake. It could double as a shade for the window behind your bed if you have one.
60. Caddy Night Stand
Bedroom space is lacking in most RVs (besides under the bed, but who wants to pick up their bed every day?) A caddy night stand could solve that problem for you!
61. Fold Your Clothes to Fit Into a Small Space
62. Use a Shoe Box for Decorative Storage
63. Organize Hats with a Clothes Hanger and Shower Rings
64. Use a Shoe Organizer for Extra Shelves
A shoe rack can actually fit in many RV cupboards. Use it for extra shelf space!
Living Room Space Saving Ideas
65. velcro remotes.
Kayla and I did this with our remotes, and we love it! We used these velcro squares .
66. Store Flashlights with a Broom Holder
Get another command strip broom holder to store your flashlight by the door for easy reach.
67. Get Shelves with Side Hooks
I couldn’t seem to find these online anywhere. If you know where to get them, let me know!
68. Door Catch Hideaway Hooks
Hide your coat or towel racks using door catchers .
69. Create a “Quick Drop Zone”
Create a “Quick Drop Zone” to store small things like keys and sunglasses right by the door for easy access.
70. Use Magazine Racks for Odds and Ends
71. Paper Roll Rod
If you have kids who like to draw on paper, try this project to install a paper roll under a cabinet.
72. Inside the Door Storage
This is something you can easily make yourself, or you can just buy it .
73. Desk Lamp w/ Power Outlet
This tip is less for organization and space saving, and more for supplying your RV with a power outlet you can reach without bending over. Our RV has a power outlet under the dinette we use when we’re working on our laptops, and it is a pain to get under there to plug stuff in.
74. Storage Cubes Turned On Their Sides
This is another idea we got from Gone with the Wynns .
75. Peel & Stick Cord Organizers
Sticking with our theme of not putting holes in the walls, these peel and stick cord organizers are great for making your cords look pretty. Most of your cords are hidden anyway, but it’s always nice to see cords actually organized.
76. Get an Ottoman
Collapsible ottomans are great for adding extra storage and utility. Plus when you’re not using them, you can put them under the dinette or fold em up.
RV Basement/Outside Storage
77. add more rear storage.
Our current RVing neighbor has a tow cargo carrier attached to his fifth wheel for extra space. Sometimes the best RV storage ideas are the ones that simply add more space to store things!
78. Make the Most of Your Tow Vehicle
You can put kayaks, bikes, extra storage and more in your tow vehicle. Make the most of it!
79. Hang RV Hoses
One way to do this is by hanging nylon velcro strips .
80. Mounted Ceiling Supplies
Use pipes and brackets to mount supplies like brooms, umbrellas, fishing rods and more to your outside storage ceiling.
81. Mesh Bag for Water Hose
You can find them here .
82. RV Water Hose Splitter
Another tip that isn’t exactly for storage, but more for convenience. Easily wash your RV, clean your black water tank, or whatever you need an extra hose for. Get one here .
83. Reusable Grocery Bags
You can use these for groceries (duh), but you can also use them to store extra stuff in. We have a bunch of cleaning supplies in one of ours. You can get them at most grocery stores or on Amazon .
84. Mount Electrical Adapters
Other Miscellaneous Space Saving Ideas
We have more space saving ideas but weren’t sure which category to put them in or didn’t want to make a separate category for only one or two things. Here they are!
85. Over-The-Seat Organizer
Who says you can’t use your motorhome’s seats as extra storage? Get one here .
86. Pull Out Surfaces
We wish we had more pull out surfaces. Hidden counter space is one of the best RV storage ideas you’ll ever head. You can build some if you’re interested in DIY.
87. Command Hooks
We LOVE command hooks . They are a super easy way to organize your stuff and save cupboard space. Check out DIYncrafts awesome guide to using command hooks for some great ideas!
88. Insta-Hangers
These insta-hangers are pretty cool. You can use them to organize the clothes in your closet, or to hang up your nice outfit while you iron it. When you’re done, they snap down and hide away!
89. Combine Hooks with Metal Containers
This is one of my favorite camper storage ideas. It lets you get really creative!
90. Vacuum-Sealed Bags
If you’re bringing extra pillows, blankets, or clothes with you in the RV, these vacuum-sealed bags are an excellent way to keep them fresh and save space.
91. Chalk Paint
We used chalk paint on our fridge to help us remember what to do before we pack up and drive.
92. Get a Toolbox
You need tools if you’re going to spend time in an RV. You never know when something’s going to break – I’ve used my toolbox 5 times in the past week alone. Check out Ditching Suburbia’s fulltime RVer’s toolbox article for tool ideas.
93. Use a DVD Binder Instead of Cases
DVD cases take up a lot of space. Ditch the cases and get a DVD/CD binder instead.
94. Alternatively, Take Everything Digital
Instead of using your precious storage space on a DVD binder, download all your movies onto an external hard drive ( here’s a guide ). You can also keep all your music on there (or just use Pandora ). Heck, use an e-reader or kindle instead of carrying physical books, while you’re at it!
95. Use More Tension Rods
We’ve found there to be a near endless use for tension rods . You can hang spray bottles on them, hang baskets on them for extra storage space, or use them vertically to organize stuff.
96. Store Things in Tackle Boxes
Tackle boxes aren’t just for fisherman. You can store all kinds of odds and ends in them!
97. Install a Ball Storage Net
If you’re into sports, it can be difficult to find a place to store all your equipment. Try installing a storage net !
98. Magnetic Tape
Magnetic tape can be super useful for storing small metal objects on the wall.

Storage & Organization Ideas
61 smart RV Storage Ideas (to maximize space in your RV)
Sharing is caring!
RV’ing can be so fun, but it can also be so frustrating trying to live in a small space (even if its just for the weekend). I have put together a large collection of over 61 ways to improve storage in an RV. These RV storage ideas and tips will help you organize and enjoy your ‘home away from home.’

Where did these ideas come from:
We have a pop up camper (a Palomino Colt) which is on the small end of the spectrum of RV’s, my sister has a large 5th-wheel trailer , and my friends have various sizes of travel trailers . I’ve picked their brains and come across some clever ideas in the Facebook groups I’m in. So I’ll present some of those ideas here (and I’ll spare you the negativity of the usual Facebook comments.)
I truly hope you find this list of storage ideas helpful.
NOTE: This list has been updated and increased because I’ve found some other storage options that may work for you.
RV Bathroom Organization Ideas
We’ll start with organizing the bathroom in your RV. This can be a tiny space, and whether you have a wet or dry RV bathroom will determine what storage solutions you can and can’t use.
67.Hanging Mesh Shower Curtain Organizer
This is a large, 15-pocket mesh shower curtain organizer that you can hang from your shower curtain rod or from the back of your bathroom door.
It is made of mesh so you can hang it on the wet side of the shower curtain. It is designed for the water to drip out and not pool in a pocket.
66. Wall-mounted Toothbrush Holder
The counter-top space in your RV bathroom may be small to non-existent.
A wall-mounted toothbrush holder like this one will keep your toiletries off the counter yet still within easy reach.
If you have a wet RV bathroom just be careful what you store in here. (These things are very popular and RV’ers buy them up like crazy.)
Will this work for your family?
65. Waste basket – hangs over the cabinet door
Sometimes you can squeeze a small garbage can next to your RV toilet, but if there isn’t room you could look for an option like this one. (Just check to make sure the door will still close without hitting the plumbing.)
Click here to see more pictures and get more information about size.
64. Wall-mounted, or cabinet-mounted Vintage Metal Baskets
These are incredibly versatile baskets. Campers put them in different rooms and they’ll have a completely different purpose.
Some people mount these onto their wooden bathroom cabinets to hold face clothes, or extra toiletries.
63. Sliding Basket Organizer – great for inside a cabinet and “hard to reach” areas.
Just imagine this basket filled with extra shampoo, soap bars, toilet paper, toilet cleaner, mouth wash and more, and then you’ll start to realize just how useful this could be under your bathroom sink.
62. Towel Rack styled like a wine bottle holder
These look cool. If you don’t want to screw into a wall, you could screw into your wood bathroom door (if you have a wood bathroom door).
Or maybe even use Command Hooks to hold this towel rack to your RV walls.
61. Elegant Swing-out Towel Rack
Here is another towel rack, but this one swings out from the wall.
I think it is quite nice looking and can hold up to 3 towels. (It will require screwing it into a solid surface though…perhaps the side of a wooden cabinet?)
60. Toilet Paper Holder used as a Towel Holder
I know this is designed to hold toilet paper, but just imagine it as a towel holder .
- That is what some campers do.
- It’ll do the trick and keep the towels from accumulating on the bathroom floor in wet mess.
This popular one from KES requires you to screw into the wall , but there are other options out there that use an adhesive. ( But you’d need a strong adhesive to hold up a wet bath towel .)
59. Paper Towel Holder used to Store Toilet Paper
These are marketed as countertop paper towel holders, but they work well to hold rolls of toilet paper too!
In the picture above my sister uses one of these in her 5th-wheel trailer.
58. Command Hook Towel Holders in your RV
Nothing really fancy about this, but things don’t have to be fancy to be effective .
The company 3M makes a variety of Command Hooks that can work well as towel holders . Many campers like this adhesive option because they don’t want to screw anything into the walls.
57. Tension Bar Shelves in your RV Bathroom
I was a bit surprised when I first put this picture on Pinterest.
The pin really took off and people really liked the simplicity of this storage solution.
And no tools are required, and no drilling into your walls .
And check out the baskets…nice and tidy. The tension bars allow you to make your own RV shelves without screwing into the walls.
Personal Hot Tip: this option is best for seasonal sites or other RV’s where they don’t move very often . Just remember to take the baskets off the shelves on travel days. (Set them on the floor when you’re driving.)
56. Seagrass Baskets
If you don’t already have baskets you could get some seagrass baskets like the ones shown below.
You could store your extra toilet paper or towels in one and then set it on your tension bar shelf. (I realize you won’t have counter-space but make your own tension bar RV shelves.)
55. Hanging Shower Caddy for your RV Shower
This one can hang right from the shower head itself, or from the shower door or rod .
And it can be rolled up and brought with you to the campground’s shower facilities.
If you don’t want to hang it from your shower head, then you could adhere a strong command hook to the wall and hang it from that.
54. Make your entire shower curtain into an organizer!
With this 9-pocket shower curtain by Maytex, your shower curtain becomes the organizer . Such a cool idea.
Do you have a shower curtain in your RV?
Will this work to help you organize your RV bathroom?
53. Shower Soap, Shampoo & Conditioner Dispenser
Leave the bulky shampoo and conditioner bottles at home.
No need to pack them with you when you have this dispenser.
Just fill up the soap chambers before you set out on your voyage and you won’t have to trip over shampoo bottles on your shower floor anymore. It adheres to walls…not screwed.
These things sell really well…but will it work for you??
52. RV Shower Shelf
This is a pretty straight-forward but useful RV bathroom organization idea .
All your showering needs will be close at hand with this stainless steel shower shelf (painted black). It is also available in silver.
51. Shower Organizing Kit (nice Chrome look shelves and hooks)
If you want to take it a step beyond just having one shower shelf, you can look into getting an entire set like this one . This set uses suction cups – not adhesive – to stick to shower walls.
Click here to see more details of this organizer set.
The picture above shows the large shelf “in action.” Will this work on your shower walls though?
50. Over-Door-Organizer for Personal Items and Bathroom Products
Even though these products are often marketed as hanging shoe organizers, they are very useful and handy for other purposes.
You could hang it over the door, or on the dry side of the shower curtain. They are one of the best camper organization ideas because you can also cut them to suit your needs.
Click here to see a similar hanging organizer on Amazon.
49. Travel Size Accessories like a folding Portable Hair Dryer
Some people live in their RV full-time or for months at a time. For people that spend a lot of time in their RV (and have to look presentable sometimes), a travel-sized hair dryer can help cut down on clutter in their small RV bathroom.
This small, folding hair dryer by BaBylissPRO is a popular, well-rated travel hair dryer.
48. Narrow Bathroom Garbage to go beside toilet
Most RV trash can ideas require you to have narrow garbage cans like the the small, narrow, foot-activated lid like the one shown above in my sister’s RV bathroom.
The garbage can in the picture above is by MainStays, which is available at Walmart.

47. Over the Toilet Shelves (rustic look)
If you are comfortable screwing into your RV walls then some hanging over-the-toilet shelves like this will provide you some nice additional organization space .
These are flat shelves, so they’d be better for stationary RVs or infrequent trips .
(If you are going to drive with these shelves, just take the items down before driving and put them all in a basket and stash them in your bathtub until you get to your destination.)
46. Tension Bar Inside the Shower to hang Wet towels and Toiletries
This idea is from a Tension Rod Organization ideas post I wrote.
Tension bars are incredibly versatile organization items. (But if condensation is a problem in your RV you should try to hang wet clothes outside.)
45. DIY Toiletries Holder
This is a simple DIY RV storage idea made from an empty milk jug.
You can either hang it from your shower curtain, or from a second tension bar installed in your shower (like the one above).
It is an easy DIY RV organization hack.
43. Over the Door Robe and Towel Holder
If your RV has room between the door and the door frame, an over-the-door rack like this can make a great towel and robe holder .
They can be a very useful RV organization idea . It takes advantage of vertical, “wasted space.”
My sister uses the above 5-bar over the door towel holder in her 5th wheel trailer.
There are a lot of different styles of towel holders that fit over a door.
42. Chrome Toothpaste and Toothbrush holder
I know I already showed a toothbrush holder above, but this one has a different look, and what is cool about this one is that it can be used on the countertop, or on the wall. So it is versatile.
Everyone has different preferences on how they want their RV bathroom to look.
RV Kitchen Organization Ideas
The next set of RV organization ideas are RV kitchen organization ideas.
And because many campers spend a good amount of time in the kitchen – especially on rainy days – this small area can be a large source of frustration.
I hope some of these ideas can make your cooking and cleaning a more efficient experience.

You may like this video I put together about RV kitchen storage ideas.
41. Slide Out Organizer for under the RV kitchen Table
Stick one of these to the underside of kitchen table and you’ve got yourself a little “drop zone” for keys and phones and also a storage spot for playing cards and stationary.
They are marketed as office supplies, but they work well for knick knacks and everyday carry items.
40. Under-Cabinet Tray for under RV kitchen cabinets
I know it’s hard to tell what this does by this picture, but it screws to the underside of an upper kitchen cabinets . Most RV’s have wooden cabinets so I know a lot of RV owners don’t mind screwing into the wooden cabinets to mount a storage idea like this one.
Here is another organization idea for keys, stationary and other small items.
Click here to see more photos of great small item organizer.
39. Upright, vertical Dish Holder for RV Cabinets
Help keep your RV kitchen cabinets tidy and organized with these compact RV cabinet organizers that hold your plates upright.
Will these help you organize your RV dishes?
38. Wall-mounted Magnetic Spice Jars
The next few RV kitchen organization ideas involve spice racks .
This one here has a magnetic base that you mount to the wall and then stick the spice jars to it.
It helps you save countertop space.
It is a 12-pack of jars so it should allow you to spice up lots of camping meals.
Click here to see more details of this space-saving spice jar set.
37. Modern, acrylic Spice Shelves
Here is another cool looking spice rack that you mount to the wall or side of a cabinet.
This is popular spice shelf that will also help clear up counter space .
36. Spice Rack Clip Strips (mount to inside of cabinet door)
Perhaps this is more what you’re looking for?
You can mount it inside the door on your kitchen cabinets so the spices won’t be in view all the time.
You clip the spice jars into the mounted strips. It mounts to the wall or inside a cabinet using 3M adhesive tape.
35. Food Wrap Organizer (mount inside kitchen cabinet door)
This food wrap organizer has the little “pockets” for each type of food wrap that you may use.
You can screw it to inside a kitchen cabinet door, or you can mount it to a wall. (It does require screwing though .)
Here is another ‘over the door’ organizer you may like, but this one just hangs from the cabinet door…not screwing needed.
Below is a picture of metal wire basket hanging from this inside of a camper cabinet door. (Looks like the stuff inside the cabinet needs to be organized a bit so the door will close. 🙂
34. Beeswax Wraps – Sustainable, less plastic RV’ing
Just because you’re RV’ing or camping it doesn’t mean you have to leave you eco-friendly mindset at home.
You can use less plastic while cooking in your RV by using beeswax wraps to cover and store your food.
Then you don’t have to bring all those boxes of food wrap with you. (You may still want aluminum foil for cooking over the fire though.)
33. Corkboard mounted inside Cabinet door as Organization Center
Do you always have a pile of paper, notes and business cards tossed around your RV?
If so, this is a handy way to keep them organized.
Take a corkboard like the ones shown above, cut it to size of your cabinet, and then mount inside a kitchen cabinet door .
Then if you get a brochure, business card or write a note, you can stick the paper to the corkboard using a push pin.
32. Screw Jars to underside of Kitchen Cabinets
This can be a great way to store tea bags, sugar, spices, and other kitchen staples.
Clean out some empty food jars – baby food jars are a good size – and then screw the lids to the underside of your kitchen cabinets .
Then put your items into the glass jars and screw the jars onto the mounted lids.
It is a good way to keep things off the kitchen counter.
31. Nesting Bowls
Nesting bowls like this are a nice, compact way to have multiple kitchen bowls without having them scattered throughout your kitchen cabinets. (Prevents cabinet sprawl.)
This is a popular, 9-piece set from Joseph Joseph.
The photo above shows what is included in the set and the photo below shows them nicely nested together.
30. Dish Drying Rack (in the sink)
A dish drying rack like this one from Camco sits in your RV sink. It is a good way to help keep your counter-top clear and usable. (But if you do want to set it on the counter, it comes with a drip tray.)
We use one in our pop up camper, and what I like about it is how portable it is .
If the campground we’re staying at has a dishwashing station I can bring this along and use it to hold the cleaned and rinsed dishes. (And I can even let the dishes dry outside if I want.)
I think that it’s a good product at a fair price.
Click here to see on Amazon.
29. Paper Plate Dispenser
Do you like occasionally using some paper plates for guests, grandkids, or picnics? This paper plate dispenser mounts to the underside of your kitchen cabinets so you can easily reach them.
Want to see more details? Click here.
28. Adjust Cutlery Tray for Kitchen Cabinet
Your RV’s cutlery drawer may not be the same width as your friend’s RV.
But this company (OXO) has thought of that and they make an adjust cutlery tray. So you can adjust it to suit your needs and have a nice organized cutlery drawer. It can extend from 9.75″ wide to 16.25″ wide.
Whether it stays organized is up to you. 🙂 The photo above shows it pushed together (contracted), and the picture below shows it extended to fit a larger drawer.
27. Instant Pot Duo (7 in 1) – 6qt
How is this an organization item?
Well, it’s more of a decluttering item.
Because an Instant Pot can replace several small kitchen appliances , and it even has a sauté function so you could even leave most of your fry pans at home too.
It has lots of functions that may seem overwhelming at first, but read the instruction manual, get a descriptive Instant Pot recipe book and you’ll be on your way.
I read that one full-time RV’er who works at “ Trailer Life ” magazine also highly recommends mulitcookers (like the Instant Pot) for RV kitchens.
26. Vertical Knife Holder (the Knife Safe)
Screw this knife holder to your kitchen wall, or to the inside of a wooden kitchen cabinet, and you’ll always have your blades within reach.
You can get it in different colors too if you don’t like beige.
25. Sliding Drawers for Under the Kitchen Sink Cabinet
A unit like this could help you organize under the kitchen sink cabinet (if it’ll fit).
There is a top shelf to store items, and two sliding drawers. It could a good place to keep your cleaning supplies. The smaller drawer could fit cleaning sponges, bar soaps, and more small items.
It would also make convenient sliding shelves for your RV pantry .
If you want to see the size of this unit, click here .
24. Plastic Bins – Simple RV Cabinet Storage Idea
Here is a simple RV organization idea that my friends use. They have some plastic bins that they place inside their RV kitchen cabinets.
You can store “like” items together and then just pull the whole bin out for easy access.
Because they’re cheap and easy to get, it makes plastic bins one of the best camper organization ideas.
For more ideas on how to organize your RV using plastic bins click here.
23. Reuse Old Plastic Containers
A cheap RV storage idea is to reuse your old plastic containers to hold stuff.
Like in the picture above where an old Lysol container is being used to hold garbage bags.
My sister keeps this under the kitchen sink so it’s within easy reach and it helps to organize her under-sink area. Doing something like this is a simple and cheap way to organize your RV.
22. Vertical Organizer for RV Kitchen Items (by YouCopia)
Having pans and other cookware stacked on top of each other can be a hassle to access the one your want.
And depending on the cookware you have, stacking them may damage their surface. A vertical organizer like this one solves both those problems and makes a great RV kitchen cabinet organizer.
It allows you to easily pull out the item you want, and it helps prevent scratching.
This is there “expandable” model. They also make a standard, non-expanding model .
21. Plate Stackers to keep your Plates stationary (Camco Stack-A-Plate 43601)
Many RV’ers want to know how to store and protect their dishes in their RV.
You could get plastic dishes but if you want regular dishes check out this Camco Stack-A-Plate.
These look like a clever idea to keep your plates stationary in the cabinet during travel days.
To minimize rattles, you could tuck a cloth rag between the plates and the plastic stacker to further minimize vibration.
For more RV dish storage ideas check our our article on this topic.
20. RV Fridge Bar
The word “RV fridge bar” may sound like you’re converting your fridge into the liquor cabinet (bar), but what I’m referring to is this product that stops your food from shuffling around during travel. Pretty clever.
(And people use these tension bars for other things too…like orienting it vertically to organize a kitchen cabinet!)
Click the picture above to see more details on Amazon.
19. Stove top Wooden Cover (The “Silent Top”)
You can lay this on top of your stove, cut all your veggies (when you use the cutting pad with it), prep your meal, then remove it when you need to access your burners.
It is a clever way to increase counter-top space (and we know that can be lacking in an RV!).
- Plus, this one has “silencing feet” that are intended to help quiet the rattle of RV stove tops.
18. Sink Cover Cutting Board
Here is an other good way to add more counter-top space to your small RV kitchen.
You place this cutting board over one of your sinks.
It even has a small cutaway hole to drop the food scraps into the sink for later cleanup. Many RV’s already have sink covers, but if yours doesn’t, check this popular one out .
This isn’t the same cutting board, but in the picture below you’ll see my friends trailer and how they maximize counter space by using a cutting board/cover over top of their sink.
17. Mini Pantry Organizing Shelf
A lot of the RV kitchen organization ideas so far have been about organizing cookware, but what about organizing food in your RV pantry ?
Well here is a mini pantry shelf from Simple Houseware that you could use to store canned goods inside a kitchen cabinet.
If it’ll fit in your RV, it makes a good RV pantry storage idea.
16. Wire Shelf inside Kitchen Cabinet for Food storage
Here is a clever way to increase RV pantry storage.
A simple wire shelf helps you maximize the vertical space in your cramped RV pantry.
You can find these raised shelves at most retailers.
15. Lazy Susan inside a Kitchen Cabinet
These allow you to easily get at your foods in the RV kitchen cabinets, and lazy susans make convenient RV pantry storage ideas.
This is a 12-inch size with dividers and raised edges so it should minimize shifting during travel days.
Will a lazy susan help you organize your RV kitchen?
14. Magazine Holder for Cutting Boards
A cheap magazine holder makes a great cutting board containment device .
Place one of these inside your kitchen cabinets and then you’ll always know where to find your cutting boards. They are an inexpensive RV kitchen cabinet organizer .
Or…you can simply use it as your RV magazine rack if you want.
13. Slide-out Cabinet Organizer
I know these are very popular with new kitchens in houses. But I’m not sure if they’ll fit in your RV kitchen cabinet. Measure carefully , and read product descriptions thoroughly before ordering.
This one above is made by Lynk Professional. (They make quality stuff.) It is 11-inches wide, but you can get them in various widths and depths.
If this does fit then you’ll have way easier access to pots and pans . Just slide them out – instead of getting on your hands and knees trying to reach the back of the cabinet.
If they’ll fit in your RV, they’ll make great RV kitchen cabinet organizers.
12. Water Bottle Rack – neat RV Kitchen Cabinet Organizers
If you have kids, or if you like to get out and explore campsites then chances are you have some water bottles kicking around in your RV . And I mean kicking around – they always seem to roll all over the place.
Well, a water bottle holder like this one will keep them nice and organized.
Check it out if you need some help organizing and storing water bottles.
RV Bedroom Organization Ideas
Here are some RV bedroom organization ideas to help you get your RV bedroom tidy and manageable.
11. Hanging Shelves for the Closet (perfect for sweaters and bedding)
Sweaters just don’t hang well: they get all droopy and weird looking.
A hanging shelf like the one shown above can avoid that. If it’ll fit in your closet .
Not all RV closets are full height, so make sure you measure yours, both width and height before committing to a hanging shelf. (You could always cut off a bottom shelf if you had to.) But if it’ll fit in your camper, then you’ll have RV shelves ready to use.
Click here to see more details of these hanging shelves made by “Granny Says”.
10. Hanging Organizer with Pockets (two-sided!)
Hanging pocket organizers – sometimes called hanging shoe organizers – are very versatile storage items.
(In fact, I wrote a whole blog post on awesome ways you can use a hanging shoe organizer. )
What is particularly cool about this one, is that it is doubly space-saving because it is two-sided!
Will it fit in your RV closet?
Click here to see the size on Amazon.
9. Fabric Storage Bags to store extra clothes, bedding, etc…
I like how there is a clear window on the front of these fabric storage bags. Then you can actually see what you have in there.
Not much use organizing your RV if you don’t know where to find anything!
8. Wire Mesh Cubes for the Closet (or could even screw to the wall)
I like how you can make these cubes into a variety of structures : low and wide or tall and narrow.
Heck you could build a little tower of cubes right in your RV closet!
7. Plastic Bins for Socks, underwear, accessories, etc…
For most RV’ers it isn’t about being fancy, it is about being functional .
And that is what small plastic storage bins like the ones above offer you: functionality.
Are you going to brag to your fellow campers about how awesome your plastic bin is? I doubt it. But who cares. It works.
For more ideas on how to use plastic bins for storage in your RV (a cheap RV storage solution) click here .
6. Closet Organizers
There are lots of closet organizers out there.
The ones that may be best suited to an RV’er are the ones where ‘no tools’ are required. So no drilling or screwing into your RV: just hang from your closet.
This can include space-saving clothes hangers, dedicated pant hangers, vertical hangers and more.
If you want to check out an entire article dedicated to Closet organizers click here .
5. Hanging Bedside Caddy for your RV bed
With a bedside organizer like this, all your books, glasses, etc… will be within easy reach. If you hear a sound in the night and you need to check it out, well you’ll know where to immediately reach for your glasses.
Bedside caddies are one of the best camper organization ideas for your RV bedroom and work particularly well for bunk beds.
This particular one by T-SIGN has multiple ways to attach it to your bed.
4. Hanging Wall Pockets Organizer
I first saw organizers like this in an RV Organization Facebook group I’m in. I thought it was as great idea and looked good too.
The one shown above (made by HomRing ) is quite small (you can tell by how glasses hanging from the pocket), but it should hold some of your RV bedroom essentials for you.
If you don’t want to screw into your walls you could use a command hook – and then just don’t overload it.
3. Magnetic Strips or Velcro on Back of Remote Control
If you don’t have a TV in your bedroom, don’t worry you can use this tip in your RV’s living room area.
2. RV Coat Hooks
Coat hooks mounted to the side of your RV’s cabinets are an easy way to add storage in an RV.
These could be hung on the side of the cabinets in your RV bedroom, hung in your bathroom for towels, or near your entry door to hang keys, coats and sunglasses .
In the picture above you can see the hooks are mounted to the side of this RV’s kitchen cabinets .
It is a convenient spot to help organize the entryway.
1. Overhead Wire Racks and Baskets
I have some super resourceful friends that added more storage in their old travel trailer by adding a wire rack above the bed at the front of the camper.
They weren’t afraid to screw into the walls. They secured it using screws along the back and sides of the shelf. (More pics below.)
And the holes in the wire rack provide lots of space to attach bungee cords : they help keep stuff from sliding around while they’re towing it.
You don’t just have to store stuff on the shelf either, you can use the space below it too .
This hanging basket may not be the prettiest thing around but it works and that’s what makes it so darn clever.
I like how my friends used a carabiner to hold their bottle opener.
Frequently Asked Questions about RV Organization and RV Storage
How do i maximize my rv space.
Tips on how to maximize space in your RV include:
- Think vertical – use wall space and stack items when appropriate
- Declutter – get rid of unneeded items –> Pack what you need and need what you pack
- Get items that have more than one use (think along the lines of a Swiss Army knife, multi-tool or even an Instant Pot)
- Use “dead” space – like behind doors and inside cabinet doors
- Use bins or baskets inside cabinets – easier to pull out one bin than trying to maneuver one medicine bottle from the back of the cabinet
- Add sliding shelves under the table or under upper kitchen cabinets
- Have a dedicated spot for everything – know where everything goes and PUT IT BACK
What is the best thing to keep items from moving in cupboards in my RV?
You can buy anti-slip shelf liners at the dollar store and line your RV cupboards. If you want to stop your RV dishes from breaking you could either buy some plastic dishes, metal camping dishes, or you can look at buying RV-specific dish storage devices like the Camco Stack-A-Plate .
For more ways on how to store dishes in your RV check out this article on RV Dish Storage ideas.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this list of ideas.
It isn’t always easy getting everything you need into an RV, but with some planning and buying the proper products you’ll be well on your way to improving storage in your RV.

Great tips. I was unable to get to the amazon website for the black under cabinet tray (in the kitchen tips). I also did multiple searches on Amazon with no luck finding it.
Oh jeez, sorry Nanine and thank you for pointing that out. Maybe I’ll see if a different website still offers it for sale (or something similar). Thanks again. ?
Amazon still has it. Search for Anything keeper. Or everything keeper. Not sure if this link will work… Anything Keeper – Home, Office, RV, Kitchen and Boat Organizer (outside dims = 11″Wx10″Lx2.5″H; basket=10.25″x9″x2″) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZIUAXG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gXNJDb650FMJK
Thank you Tracy. Very kind of you to let other readers know. ?
Love the idea of the remote caddy on the side of the bed. I accidentally put my new iPhone on the mattress close to the head of the bed and it slipped between the mattress and wall, WAY DOWN into an (nearly) unreachable cavity at the very front of our 5th wheel. We could SEE it but not REACH IT – luckily we were able to send our grand-daughter into the little cubby right next to the bed and hubby, (with a long rod) was able to scooch the phone towards her and she could stick her tiny arm in there and retrieve it! PHEW!
Oh no! Another great reason to have grandkids ?. I’m glad you got your phone back. That would be tough seeing it but not being able to easily reach it. Thank you Virginia ??
Great tips for organizing! We have been Rv ing for a while but I love learning new ideas! I’m going to use more of the smaller bins to utilize “dead space” under my sinks. I recently used a small silver command hook to stick on the wall behind toilet to hang bowl brush on. Out of site and easy access. Used another one on the side of my counter top ice maker to hold the ice scoop when we aren’t traveling.
Great idea for the command hook to hold the brush and the ice scoop! Thanks for commenting ?
A pool noodle shoved into the odd space will prevent further lost phones, or reading glasses!
That’s a great tip!
When you stack your good plates place a thin paper plate between each one
Thank you, that is a very good choice (easy and inexpensive…I like it).
I cut up the anti-slip shelf liners from the dollar store to put between my plates and bowls. They don’t shift at all.
Great idea ??. Thank you Martha.
Hi, any ideas for (50+) shoe storage?
Great idea to protect the plates!
Love all the ideas….but how can we utilize the space in the “basement”? We have so much wasted space, but not sure what to do? Any thoughts???
Hi Monique, I’ve seen people that install slide-out drawers in their RV basement. They’re heavy-duty so they hold lots of stuff. Plus, other campers utilize plastic bins or totes or milk crates. You could try mounting some peg boards along the walls of your RV basement to store tools (and then bungee cord them). Hope this helps. 🙂

RV cabinets are often built in all different sizes, so it can be helpful to boost your RV living storage organization with these tips.
Sometimes you need to add in an extra shelf from IKEA, Amazon, or another store to help you fill up what I like to call ‘dead space’.
Other times, you just need to organize your RV shelves and cupboards well. Using wire shelves in a cabinet can help you fit more food in your kitchen cupboards.
Check out our s torage ideas for RV closets in the pictures below. From buying additional plastic drawers and bins to rolling your clothes to fit in tight spaces, you need to often be creative to fill your RV closet shelves.
My favorite RV closet organizer tip is to hang clothes above stacked additional drawers.
RV Organization Accessories For Shoes
Shoes can be a problem when finding storage in an RV or motorhome. So, h ow do you store shoes in an RV?
I love how my friend Ashley uses a bin at the foot of her bed frame to hold her boots and an over-the-door towel hanger to hold her shoes on the back of their bench. Or, you can use a typical behind the door shoe hanger if you have a sliding/pocket door like we do in our Class C Motorhome.
We mostly place this hanging shoe storage on our front door so that whenever we need to go out or get inside the RV, it’s going to be a convenient spot.

Renting an RV is most definitely on our family bucket list – some day! Thanks for these tips!
You will love it I’m sure!
I have never been in an RV before, but am getting more and more convinced!
You might just love it!
I use the magazine holder for my boxes of baggies, aluminum foil, seran wrap. In my rv. And the shoe hanger for shoes, as well as dog leash, and some tools
I love how creative you can be in an RV. I have a friend who also uses a magazine older for her aluminum foil and seran wrap.
I would love to know how to hang shelves, knick knacks, storage items on the walls? I just bought a new 24ft and I am scared to nail or screw anything in the walls. Wires, pipes, who know is back there. And also resale would go down w holes in walls. Love all your ideas, and your adventurous spirit! Thanks G
That’s a great question. The best way to hang anything on RV walls is to use 3M command strips. That way there are no holes placed and you can take them off if you want to resell the RV later.
if you need a more secure fit and not take it down, pop rivets are the way to go as well.
Hi! Love your blog!!! But we need some help…we have a 21 ft Coachman Freelander. We realize we have a “void” in the under storage…the back end of the RV…..is there any way to put a “shelf” in this area….we have our water hoses and black water stuff….but we have room “above” all this stuff…..how can we use that area efficiently? thanks!!

RV Storage Ideas: 21 Affordable and Actionable Space-Saving Hacks You Can Do a Day Before Your Trip
Going on a road trip with your trusted RV sounds like a great idea. There’s a whole new world of sights and sounds on the road. Most of all, you experience the world in a fresh, unique way.
But traveling with an RV isn’t always the best choice for some. RVs are notorious for having limited space, which can be pretty challenging.
That’s EXACTLY why we’re here.
Today, we’ll list down different RV storage ideas to help you manage your things on the road! Our RV hacks will get you packing in no time .
The Start of a New Adventure: Preparing Your RV for the Road (4 CRUCIAL Steps to Save Space)
By now, we’re sure you’re excited to hit the road and brave through your adventure. You’ve got everything packed and ready to go! But before you do, there are a few essential preparations you need to do.
As much as possible, we want you to feel as comfortable and at home in your RV. We don’t want you to feel constricted nor limited with your movement, considering how limited the storage space is inside.
Truly, the best way to address this problem is by organizing all your things and being nifty with your storage ideas.
We’ve got a ton of RV storage ideas we want to share with you. But before we delve into that subject, we need to get down through the basics of what we have to do.
Step 1: Make an Inventory of Everything
The only way for you to EFFICIENTLY ever organize what you have stored in your RV is if you can keep track of what you have in the first place.
Now, this may seem like such a laborious task. But trust us, it will do you wonders later on.
List all your food supplies, clothes, power charging essentials, and more. Creating an inventory will help you identify all the items you have and all the essentials you might have missed.
Step 2: Say Good-Bye to the Unnecessaries
Being on the road most of the time, you probably have this notion you need to bring extras for everything. Food, clothes, medicine, plates, just to name a few.
There’s generally nothing wrong with this idea, especially if you want to play it safe. However, too much of everything can significantly reduce the amount of storage space you have left to deal with.
Do you have 20 plates stored, but there’s only two of you? Do you have a month’s worth of clothes for a trip that’ll only last a week?
Whatever it is that you don’t need, TAKE. IT. OUT.
Step 3: Plan Out Your Storage
Once you’ve only got the essentials left, it’s time you start thinking about where you want to place them. You can’t just leave them lying around anywhere. That’d be a disaster, and it’ll just leave a big mess!
Not to mention, you’ll always find yourself confused with where you placed certain types of items in your RV.
Stay on top of this problem and designate places where you want to place certain items.
For example, you can put all your food, plates, utensils, etc., on the kitchen counters. For your toiletries, you can place them under your kitchen sink.
There’s a lot of storage places in your RV that you just have to utilize!
Step 4: Start Cleaning
It’s always better to start with a blank and clean canvas when dealing with an RV organization. You can see and appreciate your space a lot better, and you have a better idea of setting your goal.
The final act before we start with your RV storage solutions is to start cleaning. Clean up that dirt stain on the floor, wipe away all the crumbs on the counter space, and change the bedsheet of your bed.
You can clean your RV however you want and whenever you want! Whatever works for you.
RV Storage Solutions: Need to Know Storage Ideas for Your Home Away from Home
Now that you’ve got your RV all prepped and ready to go, it’s time we move to the meat of our discussion today: Different RV storage ideas for a functional living space on the road.
We’ll be as comprehensive as possible and make sure you find storage ideas for each part of your RV.
Whether it’s for your kitchen, bedroom cabinet, bathroom, we’ve got different RV organization accessories for you to check out.
RV Living Room Organization Ideas: Maximizing Your Small Space
The first space in your RV that will welcome you and your guest is your living room. Although space tends to be a bit limited, it nevertheless feels cozy and homey.
Good enough to be your living room on the road!
Through time, however, your living room starts to feel a bit packed. What was once an empty living room space is now filled with different things lying around everywhere. You can hardly fit your desk lamp anymore.
- What happened to the wall space that was just a few months ago?
- Where do your remote controls suddenly go?
- Did you suddenly find yourself in a war zone of your mess?
If you answered yes, find comfort in knowing you’re not alone. Many RV owners find themselves in the same situation, unable to look at where the problem started.
But one thing’s for sure, you can get out of this mess with the right RV organization accessories for your living room.
You’ll have a welcoming and homey living room space in no time!
1. Use Command Hooks for Your Trinkets and Keys! Even Bathroom Storage!
A typical scenario that occurs when you enter your RV right after a day of adventure is: you drop your keys, sunglasses, and other trinkets on the table.
There’s generally nothing wrong with this, and it’s become common practice for all of us. Unfortunately, however, leaving your trinkets lying around just like that leaves such a massive clutter on your counter or shelf space.
Instead of having that space free of clutter for other uses, you utilized it instead for your trinkets. That’s such a waste of space!
To avoid this problem, we recommend sticking command hooks in your RV’s living room. You can call this area your “Quick Drop Zone!” A command hook is essentially a hook, which you can stick on walls with ease like in the photo shown below:
You don’t even have to worry about them leaving a mark on your RV walls!
You can stick several command hooks on your quick drop zone. You can put one for your keys, shades, and more!
And the next time you’re heading out, all you have to do is take your things out from the command hooks and go! Convenient!
That’s not all! You aren’t just limited to keys and slings! THINK: Kitchen supplies and even bathroom essentials!
2. Welcome to the Velcro Hack of the 21st Century!
When you think of velcro, you probably associate it with clothes. And we can’t blame you, considering it’s essentially where you find it most of the time.
But you can level up the use of velcro by sticking them to your remote control! It’s a smart way to save space and make sure you don’t ever misplace them in your RV anymore.
If you’ve got various entertaining systems in your RV, like a TV or a sound system, sticking velcro on the remote and onto your entertaining system would be helpful.
3. Hide Your Cords and Keep Your RV’s Space Neat
Although this might not necessarily be an RV storage idea, it nevertheless helps with keeping the insides of your RV tidy and neat.
4. Cheap and Simple: Get an Ottoman
It’s no secret that RV’s can only seat a few people at a time. And if you do decide to host people outside, you need to bring extra seats on your journey.
Sometimes, the extra seats you bring tend to be bulky. It can take a ton of space in your RV closets, which isn’t an ideal thing to do.
Plus, Ottomans make great storage bins! Not only do you increase the seating capacity of your RV, but you can use them to store all your little trinkets.
RV Kitchen Storage Ideas: Cook like a Chef in Your RV
If you love cooking, then you’re most likely aware of how incredibly frustrating it feels to cook in an RV. There’s limited counter space to work with, and preparing takes such a long time and hassle!
Not to mention, the cabinets of RV kitchens aren’t the most spacious cabinets out there.
But with a few modifications here and there, and with some integration of storage ideas, you can SAVE SPACE in your kitchen.
Food prepping and cooking will feel like a breeze. You won’t have to dread cooking in an RV anymore.
1. Invest in Good Plate Organizers
If you’ve got a ton of plates in your storage headboard, there’s probably not enough space left for other things. This is especially true if you’ve got them stacked on top of another.
Admittedly, this is a common way most people would stack their plates on their RV pantry. There’s nothing wrong with it, but using plate organizers SAVE A BUNCH in terms of space-saving.
Now if that doesn’t match your aesthetic style or vibe, you’ll have to break out a little more cash for something as cozy-looking as a proper storage organizer for your bowls, cups, and plates!
2. Paper Plate Dispenser
If you’re tired of bringing typical plates and washing them right after, why not use paper plates? You don’t have to store them in your storage pods, and you can use the space for other things.
The best part? Worry less about keeping breakables in your RV!
3. DIY Dangling Jars
If you’ve got a lot of food items you want to bring, don’t just store them in your RV refrigerator or shelves. Use hanging containers!
A dangling jar is a great way to stock up on things without you taking up a ton of space in your RV. This space-saving hack is so simple and easy to do. Sounds scary?
Just make sure you screw in those bolts tightly!
You’ll love how this RV space-saving hack will turn out. Here’s how to do it in a 3-step guide!
4. Magnetic Spice Racks
Just because you’re on the road doesn’t mean you can’t impress your friends with your spice rack! Y0u can bring the spice in your RV with the help of magnetic spice jars.
This RV space-saving hack isn’t entirely new. Many people out there use magnetic spice racks at home to keep their counter space clear. The same idea goes for your RV pantry!
But, if you want to tuck them away from plain view neatly, you can stick them behind your kitchen’s cabinet doors.
5. Paper Towel Holder
Paper towels are so essential when you’re on the road. Accidentally spilled water on the floor? Paper towel! Need to dry your hands? Paper towel!
But even the simplest of things, such as a paper towel, can take away previous storage space.
Instead of placing them on top of your counter, or shoving them in your cabinets, use a paper towel holder! Or what most call a paper roll rod!
It’s one of the best organization ideas you can find out there for someone who’s always on the go!
6. Door Mounted RV Trash Bin
Trash bins can take up a lot of storage space under your kitchen sink. They’re just so bulky, you probably think you’re better off without them.
Well, as much as you’d like to get rid of your trash bins, you can’t. Without them, where and how on earth will you be able to get rid of your trash ?
With the help of door-mounted trash bins, you’ve got more storage space and a trash bin at the same time.
All you have to do is hang them on the back of a cabinet door, and you’re done! You’ve got yourself an RV trash bin that saves space.
RV Cabinets and Shelves: Getting the Most Out of Your Storage Compartments
Your RV probably has a lot of shelves and cabinets. But despite this, you’re still running out of available space to work with!
Your RV cupboards, shelves, and racks are packed to the brim, you can hardly store things in them anymore.
We’re here to help you out! There’s still so much more you can place inside your RV’s storage! All you need is a few RV space-saving ideas to put your favorite RV storage to full use.
1. Grab Those Sliding Baskets or Hanging Baskets
Sliding baskets are a great RV organization device you can use on your bathroom cabinet and kitchen drawers.
This especially comes in handy for hard-to-reach storage areas, making them now more accessible!
It’s an easy storage solution we’re sure you’ll enjoy! Not only can you store a lot, but you can organize your things better!
You can also invest in durable hanging baskets. They make excellent RV wall accents, and at the same time, storage containers!
You can choose what you want to put on your storage cubes and maximize your whole RV space!
2. Use an Under-Cabinet Tray or Sink Rack
Not a lot of people enjoy using their RV’s under cabinets.
It’s just hard to reach because you have to bend down and get to the far corners of your cabinet. As a result, some would throw their least used items down there with no thought.
Save yourself from this dilemma and use an under-cabinet tray! You can install them directly right under the ceiling of your cabinet, so you’ll be able to reach them immediately.
With this RV space-saving tip, you can utilize all the space on your under-cabinet and not just the ones on the floor.
3. Install a Hanging Shelf
Another one of the best RV organization tips you can find out there is to install hanging shelves. You’re essentially adding more shelves to your RV space so that you can pack more things!
RV Bathroom: Bathing in Comfort and Convenience
Your RV bathroom is your sacred place on the road. You can relax, take a nice shower, and unwind after a tiring day.
But this wouldn’t be possible if your RV bathroom is a mess! Your bathroom supplies are everywhere, you can hardly find anything you need on your under-shelf baskets, and there’s just overall mess and clutter around you!
So much for a quiet and sacred time by yourself.
With the right RV organization ideas, you can save space in an instant! Who said RV bathrooms had to be a disaster?
1. Stick Suction Cup Hooks or Handles on the Back of Your Bathroom Door
The back of your bathroom door is a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. It’s essentially a blank canvas that has so much potential!
Instead of leaving your robe and towel on your bathroom’s counter space, hang them behind your bathroom door!
Now you have bathroom door storage!
2. Have a Swing-out Towel Rack Ready
Having more than four people living in one RV can be inconvenient, considering how limited space is. Just imagine the chaos that can take place inside an RV shower.
Towels are everywhere, and there’s barely any safe place for you to hang yours.
3. Stick on a Shampoo and Conditioner Dispenser
Are you tired of bringing bulky bottles of shampoo and conditioners and boxes of soap? They can take up a lot of space, and they always fall on the floor whenever you accidentally hit them.
Consider using a dispenser! There’s a ton of dispensers out there where you can store shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, in one!
RV Bedroom: Building Your Sanctuary
At the end of a tiring RV trip, don’t you just want to lay down and have a good rest in your bedroom? We’re sure you do!
And you probably don’t want to spend a good 30 minutes of your time just trying to get rid of all the clutter on your bunk bed. You just want to rest.
But sometimes, you really can’t help but fix your bed each time you sleep. You need to get rid of the clothes you’ve piled on top because you don’t have enough space for them in the cabinet.
1. Install Hanging Organizers
If you’ve got a closet in your RV, consider yourself lucky. You’ve got a place where you can hang your clothes!
But even with a closet, it often doesn’t feel enough. With the different number of clothing you have, how on earth will you fit them inside?
If you’ve got limited closet space in your RV bedroom, hanging organizers are a great space-saving idea. You can even hang them behind your bedroom door or your window curtains!
2. Don’t Be Afraid to Use Plastic Bins
Plastic bins are probably the last on your mind when you think of RV organization accessories. They just don’t look right, nor do they match your aesthetic!
But did you know they’re one of the best space-saving ideas you can find out there? They’re highly functional and make an easy storage solution!
Once you’ve got all your clothes sorted, keep them inside your closet or under your bed. Easy right?
3. Maximize Your Headboard
The headboard of your bunk beds is one big space you can utilize to your advantage. It’s big and bare, and it’s just waiting for you to do something with it. Some people hang paintings, while some leave their wall blank.
You can install practically anything that can give you extra storage! Here’s a DIY tutorial of how it’s done!
4. KonMari Your Clothes!

#2: Command Hooks
Command hooks are an incredible invention that combines removable (yet very sturdy) mounting tape strips with hooks designed to work with them. You can add hooks of all types anywhere in the RV for hanging towels, baskets, planters, nets – anything you want. You can also keep a pack of command hooks handy for when the inspiration strikes.
You can purchase command hooks at any home improvement store and most major grocery stores
#3: Under Table Storage Drawers
One of our favorite RV storage ideas allows you to put your table to use – invisibly. Add drawers below the table surface for commonly used items, from silverware to craft scissors.
#4: LED Light Strips
Light strips are a great addition. They add visibility anywhere without turning on the lights.
As far as light strips go, there’s no shortage of uses. Use these strips as floor runway lighting, cabinet-interior lighting, bathroom lighting, and more.
Wireless rechargeable strips are short and easy to put anywhere, while plug-in strips can run off the RV power for smart home mood lighting.
#5: Magnetic Knife Rack
A strong magnetic strip is extremely useful for holding your knives (and other metal objects) safely and neatly against the wall, especially in an RV kitchen where there’s not a lot of counter space.
#6: Food Storage Containers
Clear plastic food storage containers keep your dry goods sealed and unshakable. Make sure they stack, then stack them tightly in your cabinets or DIY pantry space. Food storage containers in the fridge can be just as helpful.
How Neighbor is changing RV storage
Transparent monthly savings.
Renters save 30-50% on RV storage, on average. No rate hikes.
Keep your RV nearby
25,000 locations means that your RV is always close by.
Storage made simple
Don't settle for stone age tech and long contracts. Neighbor makes it easy.
#7: Drawer Dividers
Don’t haphazardly toss items into your drawers. Otherwise, this storage space will start to live up to the name “junk drawer.” Instead, use drawer divider inserts to keep everything organized, separated, and easy to find when you need it.
#8: Remote Holder
Remote holders are deep pockets you can stick to the wall with velcro wherever you most often need the remote – and then can save your sanity in an RV where a remote might skitter to unknown depths in transit.
#9: Seating That Doubles as Storage
Bench seating can easily be used as storage with lift-up seats that reveal empty space inside. Use plastic storage bins as a space-saving hack that easily loads and unloads while keeping the contents safe and clean inside your bench storage seating.
#10: Mesh Bags for Dry Goods
Mesh bags are quite useful in an RV because they bounce instead of crashing around. Use mesh bags as the storage solution for groceries, fruit, laundry – anything you like.
#11: Over The Door Organizer
Over-door organizers are a big hit in RVs which often have more doors than space. These hook-on organizers take many forms so you can get creative with what you need to store, from bathroom toiletries to cabinet door spice racks.
#12: Hanging Pocket Organizers
Of course, you can hang an organizer anywhere using command hooks. Hanging pocket organizers offer dozens of pockets to sort and safely store items. Because they’re hanging, they bounce like a mesh bag and slide gently on the turns.
#13: Tackle Boxes & Craft/Kit Boxes
A tackle box or craft box is a box with a lid that opens, drawers on the sides, and many different compartments. Use it as a jewelry box, an organized junk drawer, a toolkit, and much more depending on what small organized items you want to store.
#14: Wall-Mounted Shower Dispensers
RV bathrooms don’t have a lot of space. Mount your shampoo, conditioner, and body wash on the wall. You can put racks for pump-top bottles or mount refillable dispensers . This saves you the trouble of fitting a whole caddy in the limited bathroom storage.
#15: Packing Cubes
Packing cubes are cloth rectangular storage halfway between luggage and bags. They are a great way to organize outfits and linens, and they stack it all neatly inside RV space compartments.
#16: Vacuum Bags
Vacuum bags take packing to a new level by using a vacuum to flatten and compress stored fabric items. Use vacuum bags for things like emergency backup linens, extra towels, and things you don’t often need – but might want in airtight, no-volume storage.
Save up to $1,200/year on RV storage & parking
#17: stacking and collapsible kitchenware.
Stock up your kitchen cabinets with dishes, pans, and supplies that are either stackable or collapse . Maximize your cabinet space by minimizing your cookware space.
Tip: If stacking, place a dishcloth or t-shirt between each one to reduce rattling. If collapsible, store it in vertical spaces or in a bin for easy access.
#18: Removable Countertop / Giant Cutting Board
Cover your sink and stovetop with a large removable countertop or cutting board. This protects your fixtures and provides an extra flat surface for daily life.
#19: Bunk Pockets
Use magazine holders or pocket organizers tacked up next to the bed (or each bunk) for easy-to-reach personal storage.
#20: Multipurpose Pegboard
Lastly, mount a pegboard along one wall. Use hooks and bungees to store all sorts of tools and more flexible storage designs by turning an entire wall into a potential storage surface.
10 Clever RV Storage & Organization Tips
What about keeping your camper organized? RV organization ideas don’t stop at the shopping list. We have some great organization tips to share, especially if you’re a full-time RVer.
Tip #1: Roll Instead of Folding
One of the travel hacks that works perfectly in an RV is to roll your clothes, towels, and linens instead of folding them. This allows you to pack them tighter, often vertically, and they won’t be in disarray if the RV shakes on the road.
Tip #2: Vertical Instead of Flat
Vertical storage is another one of the great RV storage ideas. Use your wall space to its fullest potential by installing shelves (with baskets perched on top) or garage-storage-friendly wall hooks like these.
Additionally, use the old moving trick and stack your dishes and other flat items on their edges in a box instead of nested flat. This will save space and reduce bumps.
Tip #3: Give Everything A Home
Make sure every single thing you pack in the RV has a home where it can be stowed away. Compartments, containers, hooks, and organizers make it easy, but you can also use labels to help everyone stick to one organization system.
Tip #4: Whiteboard Task Lists
Take notes. Use a whiteboard mounted to one wall (or use it as a door) and stay organized. Assign tasks, share tips, write the grocery list, and leave each other notes.
Tip #5: Declutter Regularly
Constantly declutter. Make a habit of putting everything back in its place as you move through the RV. Tidy in the morning, afternoon, and night so that no clutter remains out to fill your limited open living space.
Tip #6: Only Bring Essentials Onboard
Don’t pack the kitchen sink. Plan for exactly what you need so that you only bring essentials. This also makes it easier for everything to have a place. With the right packing list, you’ll enjoy having everything you need without extra clutter, especially if you’re seeking storage ideas for small campers.
Tip #7: Maximize Cabinet & Closet Space
Make optimal use of your tiny spaces, closets, and RV cubbies. Use baskets, vertical shoe organizers, tension rods, hangers, and other neat hacks so that the entire space is both packed and organized.
Tip #8: Storage Around/Under the Bed
Many motorhome storage ideas focus on your under-bed area, like drawer containers . But even if your bed frame is solid, you can use stick-on small Ikea containers that add some storage around your bed’s foot space.
Tip #9: Choose Multi-Functional Accessories
When packing, choose things that have multiple functions and are adjustable. Multi-tools, versatile clothing, and neat camping kits can minimize the total number of items you need to bring.
Tip #10: Keep the RV Clean
Finally, always keep your RV clean. Clean constantly. Keep a paper towel holder and a docked spray bottle in a central location and mount a little battery-powered vacuum on the wall. This can help you clean in any spare moment so your RV is not only organized but always sparkling.A clean, well-organized RV will lift your spirits and help you to fully enjoy the RV life. If you’re looking for the perfect place to park for the night, near your favorite recreation spot, or to dock for a deep cleaning Neighbor can help. If you are traveling in a big family and often go on long vacations, you would never get as much storage space as you desire.
Even the hardcore minialist have a ton of things to bring along — dry food, cookware, clothes, appliances, cleaning products and tools, not to mention the bikes, kayaks, and other adventure gear you may be taking along for your exploration.
Worry not, as we have compiled this ultimate guide on RV storage ideas so that you can get the most out of that tiny space.
RVing does not necessarily mean you have to sacrifice comforts. These RV space saving ideas will not only help you maximize the limited space in your RV but will also protect your things from rattling or breaking when traveling off roads.
This guide will cover every aspect of the RV experience , from closet and bathroom organization to kitchen as well as RV storage ideas for much more.

Apart from the kitchen counter flaw, RVs never seem to have enough towel racks in the bathroom. A cheap and easy solution is over-the-door towel racks, which you can easily buy online or at department stores.
No drills, simply hang the hooks over the thickness of your bathroom door or shower.
Open storage compartments in an RV are never adequate, even if you are a minimalist. Hampers and closet organizers will help you effectively optimize space and keep things organized.
These come in a variety of forms and shapes. Most are foldable for space saving and super lightweight. You should definitely get some foldable storage bin cubes, which you can stack up, and some hanging shelves with sturdy metal frames for separating your items into categories and for easy access.
Storage bin cubes usually come in packs of 4, 6 or 8 at $12 to typically under $30 for a pack. Hanging shelves can range from $13 to $30 for one.
If you are a neat freak, maybe grab some drawer dividers for underwear and thin summer clothes. When you don’t need them any more for your RV, they will always be useful in your home.
This is a super hand trick shared and loved by seasoned RVers. A huge plus is, it is very versatile and can be used for closets, kitchen cabinets and anything else. This RV storage ideas will help you find things more easily by categorizing and will keep them from tumbling to the side on top of each other. No doubt it is also a super popular household storage hack.
All you need is one of those cheap, commercially-available cloth shoe storage racks, some scissors, and some velcro… and you’ve got an amazingly versatile storage hack to add anywhere in your RV you see fit. Some choice spots include along the base of the bed in the master or on the sides of your RV couch.
RV Storage Ideas: Kitchen
Cooking on your own on longer trips is essential regarding both your budget and health. This is why every RV storage ideas list includes a number of kitchen organization tips and portable accessories.
A lack of counter space can sometimes be a problem in RVs. One simple hack is to make a DIY stove cover or sink cover to give you more space for prep. A sink cover could even double as a chopping board – you can simply cut a wooden chopping board to fit.
Many RV DIYers have also added to their countertops by creating their own simple fold-out extensions, which will hang down or slide into existing cabinets when not in use.
Fruit bowls are lovely displays, of course — why else would so many artists immortalize them in still life paintings?
But when you’re on the road, those carefully-arranged apples and bananas can quickly take to flying through the air if you forget to stow them away when you’re ready to pick up camp and move on. All to say nothing of the fact that your beautiful bowl takes up precious kitchen counter space, which you probably don’t have too much of to spare.
Our favorite solution to this potentially-sticky problem? A fruit hammock! Not only does it save you space, but it also helps your fruit last longer by providing gentle ventilation that won’t bruise or crush. And yeah, it looks pretty neat, too.
Think about it, how much more food can you fit into your rig’s tiny kitchen if the storage containers you use all fit neatly together? It’s definitely a lot more than you’ll be able to pack in if you’re using round or otherwise irregularly-shaped containers.
The trick here is only opting for square plastic containers that are stackable and preferably by the same brand so you can organize them neatly like Legos.
A good set of airtight food containers can help you keep leftovers and dry goods fresh for longer than they’d stay in a bag or box, as well as allowing you to pack more of it into your RV’s kitchen cabinets and refrigerator. You can even look into smaller, single-serving containers made specifically for meal prep.
A multi-functional cooker will save you space on your small RV by combining typically 7 kitchen appliances in 1, including: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté, yogurt maker, and warmer.
The most user-friendly, reliable and affordable cooker is arguably the Instant Pot Duo Mini 7-in-1 Electric, which costs $60. It receives a 4.5 overall rating from almost 50,000 positive reviews on Amazon, making it the absolute best seller.
This might not sound super grand, but is one of those RV hacks you will love more and more the longer you spend on the roads. Towing on bumpy roads can cause annoying rattling and worse, your cutlery can fall off the shelves and brake.
A favourite cutlery protector by full-time RVers is the Camco Stack-A-Plate, which costs $10 for a pack of 2, one small and one big.
Stacking dishes vertically in a dish cradle makes them take up less space and, more importantly, makes it easier to get them out without needing to take anything off the top of them.
A peg board on the wall looks like a really cool, easy way to organize the unorganizable: pots, pans, cups, mugs and utensils. Peg boards are used in supermarkets and department stores as they offer easily customizable solutions for organizing shelves.
You can use your creativity with this super versatile and easy-to-work-with material to organize your working station and wardrobe – with different kinds of hooks, the possibilities are endless. You can use many peg boards of appropriate sizes for any intended spaces.
While you’re on it, getting some organizers for your fridge would also prevent rattling and things knocked over as well as maximizing space. These plastic containers make it easy to look for, pull out and put back things and importantly, keep your produce fresh.
If you’re an avid chef, you know how important it is that the blade matches the purpose. But when you’ve got several knives on hand, it can be difficult to find a way to fit them all in your RV’s kitchen drawers… and big, clunky knife block is right out of the question.
Magnetic knife strips are a great way to keep your knives handy, out of the way, and also as sharp as possible, since they won’t be clanging around with other silverware in your drawer. Just make sure they’re well-adhered before you take off for a new campsite — you definitely don’t want those guys flying around inside your coach!
Another creative application of wall mounted magnetic strips is a magnetic spice rack. This is a great way to keep your flavors close at hand, out of the way and easy to access.
This spice rack can be installed right under a cabinet and will save tons of RV cabinet and counter space .
Honestly, using magnetized storage is one of our very favorite space saving ideas, both in an RV or a sticks-and-bricks home. You can find all kinds of neat magnetic storage solutions, like this all-in-one paper towel and utensil organizer by Great Circle. Just make sure it’s good and solid before you put, as they do in the photo, something as heavy as a full wine bottle into the caddy. And don’t forget, if you don’t have room on your RV refrigerator (or if it isn’t magnetic), you can always install magnetic strips on your RV’s walls!
By now you should have noticed a clear pattern in any list of RV storage ideas: in a small space, try to optimize vertical space. That is, hang everything that you can hang. Plus, surely in the settings of an RV, anything hung must be secured for safety and organizational purposes.
If you’ve got the extra room on your RV’s walls, you can make your quest for food storage accessories like aluminum foil and cling wrap even easier by mounting the rolls of aluminum foil and saran wrap on the wall. Crazy easy and useful, right? A great idea from Anna Moseley over at Ask Anna.
One of the simplest ways to maximize the limited space inside your RV kitchen cabinets actually has nothing to do with retrofitting more shelving or finding clever ways to mount magnetic objects.
It’s actually as simple as purchasing pots, pans, and other cookware items that were made to fit in as little space as possible, such as this space-saving six-piece set.
The $299 price tag might seem steep, but as long as you take care of them, pots and pans really only need to be purchased once. And by choosing a single, stacking set like this (as opposed to just bringing along whichever pieces from home you feel like), you’ll capitalize on your RV’s kitchen space and buy yourself more room to store other goodies — like, you know, actual food!
Not in the market for a whole new set of cookery? We get it. Fortunately, there are less-expensive ways to achieve more or less the same result.
A simple kitchen cabinet organizer can help keep unruly pans and lids at bay, both increasing your usable storage space and making it way easier to find the piece you’re actually looking for. And at less than $15, it’s a far cry from purchasing a whole new set!
If you have OCD or are willing to spend extra money for effortless access to your kitchenware, there is probably nothing better out there than pull-out cabinet organizers and under-sink organizers. Depending on your needs, take your pick among pull-out drawers, lid organizers, cookware and bakeware organizers. Each type is specially designed to best store different types of kitchenware safely and offers instant access while maximizing space.
For instance, cookware organizers feature strong heavy-duty adjustable dividers, so that you can customize to securely hold the different sizes and styles of pots and pans. Bakeware and cutting board organizers typically have tall dividers to keep everything organized, separated and easy to access. Meanwhile, lids organizers feature loop dividers to securely hold pan lids of all sizes and styles.
Pot lids are the worst things to find space for. They are awkward and never sit right. Alternative to the above lids organizer, you can just use a curtain rod to hold them on the back of a cupboard.
Here’s a way to keep your kitchen goodies separated and secure that’s both super-cheap and fully customizable. Instead of buying a wire cabinet organizer, try a pack of tension rods, the kind you might use for window curtains.
A pack of six will run you about $15 on Amazon, and you can easily install and reinstall to your heart’s content. Install them vertically to safely store cutting boards, trays, baking trays, baking sheets … for easy access.
Cooking in your RV is one thing, but clean-up can be a whole different ball game. After all, you most likely aren’t packing a dishwasher, even in the most luxurious of rigs… and you can only fit so much into even the most generous of kitchen sinks.
Taking up counter space with a traditional drying rack could spell disaster if you forget to put things up before you pull out of camp, and besides, even the folding ones are pretty unwieldy to store. That’s why the new-generation roll-up dish racks are often featured as one of the most revolutionary RV storage ideas these days.
Just unroll it over your sink to allow your dishes to drip dry, and then curl it back up tight when it’s time to store it and move on. These racks are typically made with stainless steel rods coated entirely with food-grade silicone, which keeps the rack completely slip-free and heat-resistant. The anti-bacterial silicone coating means cleaning will be a breeze.
In addition to dinnerware, you can use these racks when washing and drying vegetables and fruits. Super simple, super versatile, super space-saving and it’ll only cost you from $18 to about $22 for a high quality silicone rack.
A version of the highly versatile over-the-door home organizers, you can further optimize vertical space by hanging these wire baskets over your cabinet doors. You can hand them either outside or inside, to easily access items that you frequently reach for, such as cling wraps, baking sheets, aluminum foil… They also offer an ideal place to leave cutting boards, baking sheets and baking trays out to dry.
Garbage is a smelly problem even in the best of circumstances and that goes double when you’re traveling in the tight quarters of an RV. A traditional garbage can not only allows obnoxious odors into your rig’s coach, but also takes up precious floor space. Definitely not ideal as no one wants to look at their garbage all day.
These convenient over-cabinet-door garbage baskets are perfect for RVing. They keep your garbage out of sight, out of mind, and — most importantly — out from underfoot. Of course, you can use these over-the-door baskets for almost anything.
They’re small, but in a rig, you’ll be wanting to take out your garbage pretty frequently anyway. And they’re cheap so that you can easily invest in a few for the kitchen and a few for the bathroom.
These cabinet-sized drawer units are on the pricey side, but if you have the money they can be one of the best ways to use RV cabinet space that may otherwise be wasted. Secure them with bungee cords to keep them from opening on the move.
They’re great for packing extra dry goods into your kitchen, but you can also use them in the bathroom or bedroom for clothes, towels, and more. These baskets are hugely popular in households and are among the most affordable yet versatile organizing solutions for small spaces like rented apartments.
Yes, hang them all! You might be surprised by how much space is available when adding up a little bit of under-shelf space here and there. And more under-shelf RV storage ideas means more counter space freed up for prepping and cooking.
Surely you must store them away while the wheels are rolling, but these hooks offer a quick solution for drying them without taking a lot of precious kitchen counter space.
One area of RV storage ideas has nothing to do with the internal space of an RV, but creatively deals with the external space. The roof and the back of a motorhome offer a lot of space for mounting those bulky gears like paddle boards, kayaks, bicycles and camping gears.
Another hack to increase the forever-limited storage capacity on your RV is to add an external mount to the rear of the vehicle . Bicycles and kayaks are the most common items that you will see.
In addition, you could also use an external mount to stow extra fresh water tanks or waste containers. Some full-time RVers even stow a whole little greenhouse for their RV-grown fresh produce, or an outdoors kitchen. Yes, that is one hell of a creative RV storage ideas. Extra space will allow you to take on plenty of cool DIY projects for amazing upgrades, helping you get the best out of your RV living .
Showering outdoors in good weather is a perk of the RV life. For a bit of fun, or if you do not have enough space for a shower in your small RV, or many people are sharing one bathroom, which is often the case, you can fit your own outdoor shower on the side of your vehicle.
An outside shower will prevent the interior of your RV from extra moisture and is useful for getting the mud off from your trekking trip before you go inside. Make your own privacy screen for your outdoors shower using a shower curtain and wire or piping is a fun and not too challenging project.
Check out the best RV shower head units here !
If you’re traveling with your family, there might not be a comfortable space for dining inside the RV. Plus, a huge perk of RV camping is dining outdoor while enjoying nature, which also keeps your RV fresh and free of odors.
If you love staying outdoors in great weather, an RV awning is a must. An awning can provide shade and help save money on cooling in hot summer weather. It can also provide a shaded place to dine, enjoy a drink or read outside your RV.
If you don’t want to invest in a commercial awning, there are many guides, including videos, within the RV community on how to make your own awning by up-cycling the material from an old tent, or even old umbrellas. A curtain rod and simple pulley system plus some craftsmanship will provide reliable support for your awning.
RV Storage Ideas: Others
You’ve got your cell phone, notebook, reading glasses, whatever it is you’re actually reading… and soon, you’ve got a great big mess right alongside your bed.
At home, you might be able to just stuff it all in the nightstand and forget about it. But depending on the design of your RV, you may not have a convenient nightstand junk drawer… or any nightstand at all!
A portable, caddy-style organizer not only offers extra room and encourages you to keep things separated and easy to find, but you can also simply pick it up and tote it along with you to the living room, or wherever.
Another “over-something” RV storage ideas. If you’re in a travel trailer rather than a motorhome, you spend a lot of time in your tow vehicle — and it can get cluttered just as quickly as your cabin can. That’s especially true if you’re traveling with kids, who have to bring along their whole playpen in order to endure the long driving hours of a typical camping road trip.
These backseat car organizers can help keep everything you and your family needs within reach, without having it be spread all over the backseat itself. Even if you’re not traveling with kids, it’s an easy and affordable way to extend your RV’s storage space, especially for items that you don’t need every single day inside the coach itself.
Command hooks might top the list of those RV storage ideas that seasoned RVers everywhere would universally agree on. They are not only useful in RV settings but are hugely popular in the homes as well, thanks to their versatility, easy installation and damage-free removal.
Yes, in case you haven’t heard of this magical creation, these hooks are designed so that you can remove them safely without stripping the paint on your wall or doors. The mechanism is simple: it sticks on surfaces by a thick adhesive. To remove, pull the end of the adhesive that sticks out vertically downward and do so very slowly.
The adhesive is made from a material that is stretchy and strong, so when you pull it correctly, it would not break but instead stretch to the point where it comes off the surface clean and damage-free.
Same mechanism with command hooks and also damage-free, command strips are just like velcros – each consists of one hook strip and one loop strip, both with adhesive on the back. Stick one trip to the wall and stick the remaining strip to anything that you need to secure on a surface.
Got a habit of losing the TV remote? Just a small command strip on an unassuming side of your RV couch can help you keep those zappers close at hand at all times.
These strips are very handy for securing small items that you often reach for but are easily lost. They also work wonders in case you want to secure something to a surface to avoid it rolling around or getting knocked on the floor while your RV is on the move.
Wire magazine rack are lightweight and can easily be mounted on walls, doors and cabinets sides. You can use them to store anything.
Keeping shoes near the RV entrance is a good idea. The best solution is to mount a regular over-the-door shoe organizer with pockets on the door. You can easily cut the pocket organizer into smaller pieces to fit your door.
Collapsible ottomans are great for adding extra storage and utility at the same time. When not in use, just collapse them and put them away.
If you’re bringing extra pillows, blankets, or clothes with you in the RV, these vacuum-sealed bags are an excellent way to keep them fresh and save space. The cheaper version is simply a zipper bag, where you roll the bag with, say, a blanket in it to force the air out, then zip it close.
Needless to say this version is far less effective than a kit that comes with a vacuum. If you travel a lot, it’s best to invest in a decent kit with reusable bags and a vacuum. Otherwise, a pro trick is to turn the hairdryer around and place the intake valve into the neck of the bag, then turn on the hairdryer while minimizing any opening. The air will be sucked out of the zip bag.

And let’s be honest – it can be DAUNTING to find homes for all the little things we need to have a fun camping trip.
Luckily for me (and you now!) I happened to meet Barb through Instagram, and have since learned so much from her!

Being organized is WAY easier when you have a checklist of everything you need! I created a free set of checklists that are perfect for the RV camping life – they help me keep my family of 5 prepared each trip!
RV Organization Examples and Hacks
Sometimes you can be shown all the useful items in the world, but until you see someone else using it… it can be hard to imagine how to use it in your own space! I have gathered some beautiful ideas for RV organization in action from around the internet to inspire you.
Here we go!
Labeled + Mounted Kitchen Spice Rack
Cabinet space can be too deep, and horizontal space is limited, so bigheartstinyspaces had the great idea to mount her camper’s spices ! Not only does it look beautiful, but it’s way easier to get what you need.

Tall, Clear Bins for Dishes and Kitchenware
Just because a space is big enough to hold everything doesn’t mean it’s organized or even being used most efficiently. For example, girl_camper shared that every time she arrived to her campsite, her things were all spilled and mixed in her cabinets. However, after adding tall bins , they now stay in place and she’s ready to go with less work when she arrives at camp.

Use White Bins To Make a Space Look Bigger
I *love* this clean, modern look from tidbitsandcompany in their camper bathroom. By matching everything, it makes the space look more tidy and the use of solid white vs clear bins in some areas helps to reduce visible clutter (like with the toothbrush cups).
Due to their super small size (and often, weird storage areas) RV bathroom organization can really make a big difference in the usability of your space!

Roll Your Clothes and Utilize Funky Spaces
Rolling your clothes works better for camping life – not only are rolled clothes capable of being stored more ways, but it’s also easier to stack them and access something without messing everything else up.
Happy_rvers found a way to use this shallow storage space for clothes by adding a bungee to hold them in. The clothes stay held up, and it’s easy to see everything you have.

Use Over the Door Organizers
Most campers have, at a minimum, a bathroom door to use for some extra organization… and it should be used! Taits_tiny_trailer shared how she used an over-the-door organizer to free up cupboard space.
In it, she has tons of toiletries that otherwise would have to be crammed into the bathroom sink cabinet. Now, everything is easy to see and easy to put away!

Store Food Items in Plastic Bins
While it does require a bit more work, storing all of your food in bins allows for better stackability as well as extra protection against rodents that get into your camper. Even things like individually packaged snacks get messy over time, and are best *contained*.
Happy_rvers shared this picture of their camper panty, and I just had to reshare it here! Each item is labeled, and they even have their liquor in an open top bin to prevent it from tipping during travel.
Utilize Wall Space for Hanging Storage
If you want to keep what little counter space you have clean in your RV (it truly doesn’t take much to look cluttered!) then think about finding hanging storage solutions. Raechel.ferguson found these adorable fruit hangers that totally match her campers’ modern farmhouse aesthetic!
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Raechel Ferguson (@raechel.ferguson)
Use Furniture + Decor with Hidden Storage
Not every hobby in life matches the aesthetic we’re going for (or is easy to have space for!). Abigailsikma found a beautiful solution for her gaming system storage in her camper that I felt I had to share as a family with 3 kids, all of whom LOVE their gaming consoles!
She got some pretty footrests that were tall enough to put wicker baskets under and use for easy access gaming storage. You would never know they were there!

Create Shoe Storage To Avoid Messy Piles
This is especially true if you have a family and many feet! Luckily, RV shoe storage is pretty easy to get organized – some people use pocket storage mounted to their mattress platform, while others use bins with hidden storage (like me!)
Use Towel Racks for Bulky Storage
I *love* how Krystal decorated her RV’s bathroom… but even more because it’s so organized! She mounted a towel rack to her wall, which really frees up tons of cabinet space (and keeps towels in the bathroom still, easily accessible!)
Use Specific Trays to Organize Your Drawers
If you are an organizer, then you likely have multiple sizes of Ziplocs too! After all, they are how I organize all of our super small stuff. Anyways, to prevent chaos in the bag drawer, Tracey shared this wonderful invention – a plastic bag organizer !
It’s important to measure first, but holy cow would it be nice to not have tons of smashed boxes spilling out bags in my drawers!
Use Bins To Create Compartments in Under Bed Storage
Most mattress platforms (atleast for the main bed) in RVs can lift up and provide additional storage. The problem is, it’s all just one giant space, and things end up getting messy fast!
I love how David utilized these 4 giant bins to create extra clothes storage in his space. This also helps things keep cleaner and easier to pack/unpack!
Use an RV Caddy to Organize Setup Items in Exterior Storage
Blocks, hoses, blackwater gear, tools and other items are usually stored in an exterior compartment of the RV such as the basement or slide through storage. However, it’s easy for the smaller items to get pushed around over time and get lost amongst the bigger things in storage.
I love this RV Caddy Mary shared – not only does it hold most common setup items, but she also put some handy things like gloves and duct tape in it too!
Keep Your RV Refrigerator Organized and Spill Free
The last thing you want to see upon arriving at your campsite is a giant mess in your fridge that’s a pain to clean up! Movement means RV fridges need a bit more planning and prep to prevent spills, but it’s not hard!
I love how Janette used the tension bars in her fridge to stop things from flying out. Another example is Karyl’s fridge – she stores everything in open-top bins on top of some Rubbermaid shelf liner so that nothing can move at all!
Use Pegboards for Vertical Organization
If you want to keep certain things easier to access, but still have a home, consider using pegboards! I love how this camper storage area was organized using a variety of pegboards and hooks. So nice!
RV Organization Accessories and Ideas!
Now that you've seen some picture inspiration of RV organization, check out some other ideas that haven't been covered yet. There's additional ideas for just about every spot in your RV!
Command Wire Hooks
These are great for toiletries or anything that's small! I use them in the bathroom, but also love using them near the door for quick grab stuff like jackets and hats!
3-Chamber Soap and Shower Dispenser
Save space storing bottles all together in your RV by putting them in this handy dispenser!
This dispenser has exactly what you need - a spot for shampoo, conditioner and soap!
No more spilled or cracked containers that leave a mess, and you don't have to take up valuable storage space in other bathroom organizers storing bulky bottles!
Bonus: You don't need any tools to install this, and it won't rust!
Hinge It Clutterbuster Four Bar Behind the Door Hanging Valet
I want to preface by saying ALWAYS measure first, because RVs are all very different than standard, and some smaller ones may not work with this.
However, if you can, take advantage of precious travel trailer bathroom space by utilizing the spot behind the bathroom door with this hinge towel holder to store and hang towels!
Hair Styling Station Organizer, Over The Cabinet Door
I'm not super into hairstyling, but many women I know are, and storing bulky items like special brushes, hairdryers and straighteners can be hard!
This is great for keeping them out of bins/horizontal space as well as keeping them easy to access!
Stackable Cosmetic Organizer Drawers
If you have any storage space below the sink, use clear containers to store any bathroom essentials. They are easy to see what's in them and stack nicely!
Alot of places do sell the metal slide out organizers for under the sink, but unfortunately, most RVs have much smaller spaces than standard, and are laid out differently as well!
Woven Plastic Storage Basket
This bin is really nice looking, but also made out of plastic so won't be affected by any splashing water! It comes in 3 different sizes, and is a great catch all for items too big to fit under the counter!
These items might include large hair care items such as blow dryers and hair straighteners or even kids bath toys!
Clear Plastic Vanity and Desk Drawer Organizers
These clear organizers are perfect for the medicine cabinet!
A lot of campers don't have a full size cabinet above the sink, and this works really well to keep things contained and organized. You could additionally add velcro to the back of the containers so that they all don't spill out when you open it for the first time during set up at a new site!
Mossio Hanging Toiletry Bag
Hang this up in your RV bathroom to add even more storage space!
We all know that travel trailer medicine cabinets are SMALL - and if you are a traveling family, it's likely everyone's things aren't going to fit in there!
We love using two of those travel toiletry bags to get more space - just use a command hook on the wall, and hang your bag there once you're parked!
I love that it can be zipped up, secured and put away during transit since typically it has alot of my small items that can get jostled around and messy while we're driving!
Organizer Caddy Tote - Divided Basket Bin
If counterspace isn't an issue, but drawer space is, consider having a caddy like this to organize things! As always, stick some quality velcro on the bottom of it or just safely store it before driving!
Mesh Shower Caddy, Quick Dry Shower Tote Bag
Don't forget a MESH shower caddy for use in campground showers!
We've been places where we knew we were going to stay long term, and DID NOT want to leave our hooks up, pack up and such just to dump our tanks.
So that meant that we would take showers at the provided campground shower rooms to save grey water tank space.
It's really convenient to have a non rusting, easily compressed and storable caddy in case you are in this situation!
I really like this one because you can even fit a rolled up towel in the middle of it!
RV Organization Tips for the Main Living Area.
There are the pain points (bathrooms, closets) but it's also important to keep your camper organized in general!
Here are some things you might not have thought about!
Entryway Storage Organizer Basket with 5 Hooks
Have a small "command center" to hang keys as well as keep brochures, maps etc!
Having a home for everything is the key to keeping organized, so don't junk up your countertops with keys (car keys, roof rack keys, ball hitch keys, camper keys ) and all your travel papers!
Keep important, often used keys on the hanger as well as any maps or brochures you refer to often (my husband and I often review the trails we want to hike the night before on the area maps... but tend to leave them on the table and they get destroyed by the kids!)
Anything Keeper!
This bin is literally for anything (as the name implies!) and, best of all, it is stored out of sight since this is a under shelf organizer!
Close it up for travel (or just when not in use) then open it up to get what you need!
This might be good for sunglasses, phones or other items (especially if you want something less visible than the command organizer I listed above!)
Ultimate Outlet Shelf
Keep cords and charging items organized (and off the counters!)
Cords are a quick way to junk up a nice clean counter - and when you only have one or two VERY small counters in small travel trailers, it's important to maximize every bit of organization and storage that you can!
This outlet organizer and shelf is perfect to contain cords, and put your phones on while they charge!
RV Clothes + Closet Organization Ideas
Camper closets are often way deeper than a normal closet would be, so it's hard to make use of that space. I know ours ends up being a pile of kids clothes that I need to dig through every day to find what I need!
I only have one closet for all of our clothes - there are five of us!
IRIS 4-Drawer Rolling Storage Cart with Organizer Top
If you have limited drawer space, then you might think about converting one of your "closets" to a drawer set using something like this!
Remove the hanging rod, measure, and find the best set of drawers! I like using them for small things like undies and socks that might normally get mixed up in a big pile of clothes or a simple bin.
This particular set has an organizing tray on top even!
3 Shelf Hanging Sweater Organizer
So if you DO choose to keep your hanging rod, using some sort of hanging organizer like this can really help keep things from getting too messy!
I personally use it to divide up everyones clothes (each kid has a section) but you could use it to organize your clothes in your RV closets many ways!
It's also nice to be able to bring it inside and pack all your clothes in your house so you can see what you have and not shuttle things back and forth!
[Reinforced] Strong Mesh Pop-up Laundry Hamper,
Pop up hampers are perfect for RV use because they store flat, are lightweight, and often easy to carry to and from the laundromat!
I also love that this one has a side pocket so you can put your laundry things (detergent pod, dryer sheets, coin bag) in it while in use!
Collapsible Plastic Laundry Basket
This style of laundry basket is super useful if you have little kids that might need a bath too!
While it's extra sturdy (since it's made of plastnic and not mesh), it also has no holes in it so you can fill it up for the kids to splash in when not in use!
Slim Laundry Hamper Basket w/ Clear Window
If you have an extra closet, or maybe a "useless" little spot in the camper, this style of laundry hamper might work for you too!
This might be helpful if you have a washer dryer in your camper and might prefer a more long term and visablly appealing solution to dirty laundry.
Don't worry though, this guy still folds flat! It also has a mesh top for ventilation (but prevents kids from throwing things in!) and a window so you can easily see how full it is!
Corner Helper Shelf
Whenever possible, make use of vertical space! We have this one in our camper, and it seems to be perfect for plates on the bottom, bowls in the middle, and bigger mixing bowls on top.
13 Piece Nesting Mixing Bowl and Utensils Set
This is one of those things that might persuade me to actually buy new... there are some AWESOME nesting kitchen sets that would save a ton of space in tiny homes and campers!
A mixing pot, strainer, measuring cups and spoons all in o ne "footprint" in your pantry !
I also love having a separate kitchen set for the RV (that stays in there!) so I don't have to pack every time and take stuff from the kitchen at home!
Collapsible Garbage Bag Holder
Being able to save that precious floor space in your camper is super helpful! With our current set up, we have to bungee cord our trashcan to the legs of the table in our RV... it takes up WAY too much space when we already have so much to store in there while traveling (bikes, grill, strollers, kid toys etc).
This collapsible trash can is perfect for popping up at camp, then removing the bag and collapsing it back down for travel!
Hanging Trash Bag Holder for Kitchen Scraps
If you like to prep food while at camp (and eat GOOODD!) clean up is way easier if you use this simple bag hanger that utilizes all those plastic grocery bags we seem to acquire in our travels!
Just wipe everything into the bag when you're done, then store the holder itself once you dispose of the bag!
SimpleHouseware 30 Spice Gripper Clips Strips Cabinet Holder
Mount your spices on the wall or cabinet door!
The perfect set up (I need to get a picture of ours!) for a travel trailer kitchen is to have the utensils hung on one side of the stove, and the spices in front (or above!)
I love these "spice grabbers" because they are just stick on (but very sturdy!) so no tools needed! They also prevent the spices from rattling and such against each other like a normal spice rack would do!
I also love that they are secure and won't
Iron Under Cabinet Mug Hanger
If you're a coffee lover or just want to store utensils in some vertical hanging space, these hooks are perfect!
There are no screws or adhesives - just slide it onto the shelf!
I also love that these hold up to 22 pounds. Many similar products are made pretty poorly, but this one has rave reviews!
Camco RV Pantry Bars
I can't TELL YOU the number of times we finally got to our destination, all the kids need to go potty (and me!) and we open the camper door and see all the contents of our pantry all over the floor!
Keep everything tidy with these adjustable tension rods!
Collapsible Dish Drainer with Drainer Board
Get a drying rack that can collapse!
We only use our drying rack at the end of the day during wind down time or after the kids go to sleep in our camper.
That means that it would be pretty wasteful to have a dish drying rack out at all times!
I also like that this rack comes with a drip tray so that you can put your dishes onto the rack and not worry about what they will drip onto!
Over the Sink Multipurpose Roll-Up Dish Rack
While this is of course useful for drying dishes in your trailer without using counterspace, I also find it helpful for having MORE counter space when doing food prep!
For example, I can put a plate of burgers on it while I'm getting veggies ready and still have plenty of prep space!
Perfect Tear Patented Wall Mount Paper Towel Holder
Mount your paper towels!
Though it may not seem like much room, they take up a bit of space, especially when you think about the fact that you have to have room to pull a paper towel off the holder!
We bought one that mounts under our cabinet area (we have a small cabinet for dishes above out counter) and it is convenient to use and out of the way!
Reusable Hanging Storage Mesh Bags
I LOVE these hanging veggie and fruit storage bags!
Not only are they nice looking, but they can be taken down and used as actual reusable mesh produce bags at the store!
Banana Bungee Hanger
If you eat bananas, this is a MUST!
Not only is it way more attractive than your typical hanger, it also takes up way less counter space and can hold a TON of bananas!
People have tested this with over a dozen... and it still held!
It's also a super small product and takes up virtually no space!
Plastic Refrigerator or Freezer Food Storage Bins with Handles
Use tall clear bins that fit in your camper fridge to maximize storage space!
I love using these clear bins because you can easily see what's inside of them!.
I also love this idea because you can prep everything for your trip ahead of time by stocking the RV Fridge Bins and storing them in your home refrigerator until it's time to go.
Zip n Store!
Chronic snacking and meal planning families rejoice! This ziploc bag hanger and organizer saves precious shelf space and prevents those bags of meals or leftovers from becoming lost or forgotten!
This is also a GREAT way to plan out your meals for the next day (sandwiches, meats, veggies etc) and have them organized, easy to see, and not taking up shelf space!
If you're a parent, you'll ESPECIALLY love this because as we all know, kids are all about snacks! Now you can see everything clearly, and make meal planning for your trip that much easier!
Camco Knife Safe
This is a second option for knife storage that is off the counters and out of the drawers!
It is significantly cheaper, however might be best for RVers who don't have little kids (there is no plastic cover over the knives)
Hitch Trailer Tray
Free up space in your camper or the back of your car and store some gear above your propane tanks!
This is great for a cooler or other bin of needed camping supplies!
Camco Rhino Bumper Mount RV Tote Tank Carrier
If you boondock but still use the restroom in your camper, you might be familiar with having a portable tank you transfer the grey and black water to.
While normally you might pull it behind your car to dump it, it can be pretty darn helpful to store it behind your camper while not in use (such as when your trailer is in transit!)
We put ours in the back of our truck when we move campsites, but if we could store it on the back of the trailer I'd feel alot less nervous about the tank somehow failing and nasty water going everywhere!
Mounted Cargo Carrier
If you haven't already installed a hitch to the back of your camper (U-haul and other places do them... or a really handy friend!) then you need to for all that extra space!
Put a giant tote like this on the back of your camper so that the inside is usable and not junked up with stuff that can't be moved out until you get there!
Tongue Jack Trailer Towing Organizer
Keep your plug, cord and chains organized with this easy to add jack attachment!
This just makes for a nice, clean look and helps to keep your break away cable away from ground moisture. The cover for the plug also helps keep dirt and moisture out to help stop corrosion (and trust me, you don't want to be at a Home Depot 9 o clock at night because your lights don't work.....)
Camco RV Equipment Storage Utility Bag with Identification Tags
This is a compact and neat way to store all of your RV hoses and cords, namely the fres hwater hose, grey water and any extra electrical cords you have!
It even comes with some handy tags so that you can quickly know what's in each bag!
Camco Tear Resistant Pop Up Utility Container
Whether you use it with a bag as a trashcan or for overflow toy storage (it just looks neater to have all the toys put away when you leave camp!) this freaking awesome pop up bin is perfect for the job!
Camco 20ft Sidewinder RV Sewer Hose Support
While this isn't directly organizational, it is very handy for keeping your sewer hose in place and off the ground!
I also think it just makes your campsite look nicer when in use!
Collapsible Portable Multi Compartments Trunk Organizer
Part of camping life is driving, whether that's towing or driving the vehicle itself! That means it's super important to keep your car clean and tidy so you can find what you need easily (and have a more peaceful trip!)
Collapsible Sink with 2.25 Gal Wash Basin
Trying to not fill up your gray water tank so fast? Do your dishes outside!
Add a little biodegradable soap and wash away in this collapsible camp sink. When you're done, dump the water and flatten it for storage.
Rotating + Telescoping Marshmallow Roasting Sticks
It's fun to find a stick and cook marshmallows the old fashioned way, but if you are an avid camper, sometimes there are no good sticks (or any sticks at all!) to use.
These marshmallow roasting sticks are perfect for the job - they store small, can extend very far (so you can actually sit back and relax in your camp chair!) and they even rotate so you don't have to move the whole stick (we're glamping now folks!)
And, as someone with kids, I can appreciate the different colors so that each kiddo has their own - no more fighting over who had which roasting stick!

Thanks for providing such a great list. Always love to see what other RVers use. I have some of these items. Trying to find more ideas to utilize wall and vertical spaces. Finding adhesive that holds has been a problem especially in extreme heat. Most command strips hold as long as I buy the name brand.
Hey Brandi! Happy it was helpful to you! Thankfully I don’t have to deal with extreme heat, but some stuff does fall off after sitting in -20 temps during winter! Checked out your Youtube video, very helpful =) – Stacy
I have a question. We just purchased a new 2020 Coachman Leprechaun motorhome, 30 ft long on 30 amp. We took it out for the first time and if we turned on both A.C. Units and used the microwave or anything else….the breaker tripped outside on the post. Is this normal? The place we bought it said nothing about this.
Hey Sandy! I’m not familiar with your model in particular, but I know we only have one AC and if we turn it on and use the microwave at the same time it does kill our generator and trip the breaker. I’m sure there are some campers that can handle both being on at the same time, but the microwave especially is a super high wattage when in use. It is kind of inconvenient, but you have to turn of the AC while you use the microwave. That’s what we do. It def takes a little trial and error to learn about a new rig! – Stacy
I believe you need a 50 amp hook up. Most sites only have 30 amp.
Thanks for sharing the tips. im hoping to get my rv organized better this spring
Your welcome Bailey! I hope they help – check back, I add more as I find them! And I’m about to add a lot as we figure out the layout of our new camper – Stacy

RV Organization Hacks for Long Road Trips
- RV Lifestyle |
Embarking on a long road trip in an RV is a thrilling adventure, offering freedom, flexibility, and the chance to explore new destinations at your own pace. However, the longer the trip, the more important it becomes to keep your RV organized and clutter-free. A well-organized space not only makes life on the road more comfortable but also enhances your overall travel experience by minimizing stress and maximizing space.
In this guide, we’ll cover a handful of essential RV storage ideas to help you keep your RV clean and tidy during long road trips. From storage ideas to tips on what to pack (and leave behind), these strategies will help you make the most of your RV’s space.
RV Organization Hacks and Tips
1. maximize vertical storage.
When it comes to RVs, every square inch matters. Since floor space is limited, one of the best ways to create more storage is to make use of vertical space.
Hanging Organizers: One of the best RV storage solutions for unused space is to use over-the-door or wall-mounted hanging organizers for items like shoes, toiletries, and kitchen supplies. These can be hung on bathroom doors, inside closets, or even on the back of your RV’s entrance door.
Magnetic Strips: Mount magnetic strips on the walls to store metal objects like knives, scissors, and small tools. This keeps them easily accessible without cluttering your countertops and saves drawer space.
Pegboards: Install a pegboard in the kitchen or storage areas to hang utensils, pots, pans, and even cleaning supplies. Pegboards are versatile and can be customized to fit your RV storage needs.
2. Use Clear Storage Bins
Clear storage bins are some of the best organization and storage solutions for a road-tripper. They help you categorize items and see what’s inside without having to rummage through everything. Visit a container store to find small space storage solutions.
Stackable Bins: Choose stackable plastic storage bins for items that you don’t need to access frequently, such as seasonal clothing, extra bedding, or pantry items. Stack them under the bed or in overhead compartments to free up floor space.
Label Everything: Even if your bins are clear, labeling them ensures everyone knows where things belong. Label bins with items like "Snacks," "Toiletries," or "Camping Gear" to maintain order throughout your trip.
Under-seat Storage: Many RVs have space beneath the seating areas. Invest in low-profile bins or containers that can slide under seats to store board games, extra blankets, or anything else you might need quick access to, and take advantage of this empty space.
3. Declutter Before You Depart
Before you hit the road, take time to declutter your RV. Bringing fewer items with you makes it easier to stay organized during your trip.
What to Pack: Focus on multi-purpose items. For example, instead of packing three separate pots for cooking, bring one high-quality pot that can serve various functions so as not to clutter your RV kitchen cabinets. Likewise, pack clothes that can be mixed and matched to create multiple outfits with fewer pieces.
What Not to Bring: Resist the urge to pack items “just in case.” While it’s tempting to bring along extra kitchen gadgets, outdoor gear, or shoes, most of these items will just take up precious counter space. Only bring essentials and things you know you’ll use.
Create a Packing List: A well-thought-out packing list helps ensure you only bring what you need. Stick to the list and avoid adding unnecessary items at the last minute.
4. Use Drawer Dividers and Compartmentalized Containers
Keeping drawers tidy can be a challenge, but using dividers and compartmentalized containers can make a world of difference. These organizers prevent your items from shifting during the drive and help you find things faster in tiny spaces.
Kitchen Drawer Dividers: Use dividers in your kitchen drawers to separate utensils, cutting boards, and cooking gadgets. This will save time when you’re preparing meals on the road.
Bedroom and Bathroom Dividers: In bedroom and bathroom drawers, dividers can be used to organize socks, undergarments, toiletries, and hair accessories. Everything has its place, making daily routines smoother.
Tension Rods for Cabinets: In cabinets, tension rods can be used to separate different sections or create compartments for standing items like cutting boards, dish towels, and cleaning supplies. Maximize space and keep everything organized with these awesome RV organization ideas.
5. Install Shelving Solutions
If your RV has limited built-in storage, consider adding temporary or removable shelving solutions.
Removable Shelves: These can be added inside cabinets to create double the storage space for plates, cups, or canned goods. Use lightweight and adjustable shelves that can be easily installed or removed when needed.
Shelf Risers: In cupboards or closets, shelf risers help you maximize vertical space, allowing you to store more items in an organized fashion.
Adhesive Hooks and Shelves: For lighter items like keys, hats, or small bags, adhesive Command hooks, and mini shelves can be placed on walls without damaging the RV’s interior. They can be easily removed once the trip is over.
6. Utilize the RV’s Exterior Storage
Don’t forget that many RVs come with exterior storage compartments, which are perfect for storing larger, less frequently used items.
Outdoor Gear: Keep bulky outdoor gear like chairs, grills, and bicycles in these compartments to free up space inside the RV.
Toolbox and Maintenance Supplies: Store your toolbox, spare tire, and any maintenance supplies in the exterior storage to keep them accessible but out of the living area.
Seasonal Items: If you’re traveling during summer, store any cold-weather gear like coats, boots, or extra blankets outside, and vice versa.
7. Make the Most of the Kitchen
RV kitchens tend to be small, but with some strategic organization , you can make RV meal prep a breeze.
Collapsible Kitchenware: Collapsible bowls, colanders, and storage containers are great space savers. When not in use, they can be flattened and stored with ease.
Magnetic Spice Rack: Keep spices organized and accessible by attaching a magnetic spice rack to the fridge or a cabinet door.
Pantry Baskets: Use small baskets or bins in the pantry to group similar items together, such as snacks, canned goods, or baking supplies. This prevents food from getting lost in the back of cabinets.
Drawer Inserts for Plates and Bowls: RVs tend to move around a lot on the road, so prevent breakage by using foam inserts or tension rods to secure plates, bowls, and other fragile items inside cabinets.
8. Implement a Daily Clean-Up Routine
Even with the best organizational hacks, RV living can get messy quickly. That’s why it’s crucial to establish a daily clean-up routine.
End-of-Day Tidy Up: Before heading to bed, spend 10-15 minutes putting things back in their designated places. This will prevent clutter from accumulating and keep the space neat and functional.
Assign Tasks: If you’re traveling with family or friends, assign specific cleaning tasks to each person. This could include wiping down countertops, folding blankets, or organizing the kitchen.
Use Multi-Purpose Cleaning Products: To save space, bring multi-purpose cleaning products that can be used on various surfaces. This reduces the number of items you need to store.

10 Amazing RV Storage Hacks
It’s no secret that space is a valuable commodity for RV travel, no matter the size of your home on wheels. And almost anything you can do, from towing to stowing, that maximizes how you use that limited space will help you carry everything you need in the long run. For this reason, we’ve put together a list of products and ideas to help you save space in any size RV.
1. Downsizing to an RV? Downsize your stuff, too
“Downsizing” doesn’t apply to everyone, but the sentiment certainly does. Whether you’re downsizing to live in your RV full-time or just taking a short vacation, the truth is that it is impossible for your RV ever to have the same amount of space and storage you’ll find in a brick-and-mortar house. This means that it’s unhelpful to pretend that adding more bins, hangers, or other storage solutions will help you fit more than you truly need in the smaller living space that RVs offer.
If you use your RV for short outings, you’ll likely want it to feel hotel-like, like a haven away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Since you’ll still have another home base, you have the luxury of only traveling with the essentials for short journeys. As such, you are unlikely to clutter your home-away-from-home with items you would use less frequently, like cleaning solutions, tons of dry pantry goods, or excess/out-of-season clothing.
If you’re downsizing to live in an RV full-time, however, you will want to take extra care to consider every item you add in terms of weight and storage space. One helpful way to reduce the amount of stuff you own is to go through each room of your home and divide the things in it into piles: one to keep, one to sell/give away, and one to think about/put in storage. This process might take a long time, but knowing that you’re only bringing the things you truly need to live comfortably will help your full-time RV life feel less cumbersome and cluttered in the long run.
2. Shoe organizers
One of the first areas that can feel overwhelming in any living space is that spot right next to the door where it seems like everyone dumps their shoes, bags, keys, etc. There’s been a steady increase in the popularity of “mud rooms” in homes as an attempt to quell this trend. Still, even the Instagram influencers you see with the nicest mud rooms in the nicest homes are undoubtedly battling the expanse of shoes into every surrounding room daily, just like the rest of us.
In an RV, too many shoes in the small corridor can lead to tripping and falling, making it an untidy-looking safety hazard. For that reason, a shoe organizer is absolutely essential in an RV. You might consider one that goes over the door or that you can wrap around the base of the bed .
Shoe organizers can also be used to store items other than shoes. Those over-the-door shoe holders are great in bathrooms, for example, to hold bottles and containers secure while the RV is in motion. Some experienced RVers even use them in the shower to keep things tidy and easily accessible. Don’t be afraid to experiment with uses for these handy organizers!
3. Maximize vertical space
This is more of a concept than a product, but there are many living spaces we occupy in our lives that don’t make the most of vertical space. For example, shelves in cabinets are often limited to a single row or shelf, so there is empty, unused wall space behind them. The area under cabinetry in the kitchen or bathrooms is another example of unused vertical space that can be used to store items with clever modifications.
Undershelf baskets, shelving that creates tiers of items, and cabinets in place of shelves are all ways you can maximize the limited vertical space in your RV. Consider fruit hammocks in the kitchen and bathroom to store, well, fruits, but also for loose toiletry items like toothpaste, lotions, or tissue boxes. Tiered shelving provides smaller shelves to store different-sized items or additional cans/dry goods. Cabinets generally offer more stable shelving than open shelves, and they tend to look neater.
4. Multi-use items
An item that can be used for multiple purposes is an item worth taking up some space in an RV! Some examples of things that can serve multiple purposes are a roll-up dish rack you can also use as a drying rack, reusable silicone storage bags /containers, a cutting board you can use as a serving tray , and storage ottomans /coffee tables.
This is something you can get creative with, too. The more you think about different ways to use items, the more creative you can get with it.
5. Magnetic strips…everywhere
Magnetic strips are a super useful storage tool, as they can be used to store knives and spices in the kitchen or cups for other items in the bathroom or bedroom. You’ll be amazed at all of the different ways you can use magnetic strips to make life in an RV that much easier. You can even use them to store some of your trusty tools for easy access and use!
6. Try a Lazy Susan
The suggestion to try a Lazy Susan is less a way to add more storage and more to make better use of what you already have. Not-so-lazy-Susans allow you to see the items in your pantry or other cabinets easily. They’re great for cleaning supplies under the sink, spices in the pantry, hygiene products in the bathroom, AND for use at the dinner table.
7. Command™ hooks
Command™ hooks , like magnetic strips, have endless use in an RV or any other living space, really. And they’re super easy to use! Some can hold up to 20 pounds, even, which is a lot of weight! You may find that they are great for totes or dog leashes, coats, trash bags, and more in your RV.
8. Can dispensers (fridge and/or pantry)
If you like to cook on the road or have a penchant for a can of beer or soda, you probably want to keep some cans available for consumption in your RV. Cans, by nature, take up a lot of space in a fridge or pantry, and anything that can help you store them more efficiently will come in handy. Can dispensers are special storage containers that can help you address the use of vertical space. These convenient dispensers allow you to pack and store cans in a way that makes them easy to access and
9. Food storage containers that take up less space
Emptying your pantry and refrigerated goods from their containers and putting them in more uniformly sized containers will save you tons of space. It also allows you to stack the containers more efficiently, again maximizing the use of vertical space in your RV storage areas. As a bonus, they look tidy, can help you feel more at ease in the tight quarters of an RV, and can help you keep pests out of your RV .
10. Over-door storage
Beyond shoe racks, many options allow you to use your RV’s doors to hold storage containers. Use your imagination! If you’re a person who loves to read, these are great for storing books and magazines off the floor. Board games, toys, crafting supplies, and stuffed animals may also find a cozy home in over-door storage for RVing with children.

Whether you’re out for a weekend trip or full time in your RV, one of the biggest challenges is how to optimize the storage space you have.
When it comes to storage you have to balance the necessities like cleaning supplies, tools, and RV parts for quick fixes. That’s just the things you need, not to talk about clothes, food, and the toys that make RVing fun.
So, it’s important to utilize the space you do have in the most efficient way.
Let’s dive in!
RV Storage Hacks are a Game Changer
When it comes to RV storage hacks they will change the way you pack. Not only can it help with any space issues but these hacks are a way to help organize.
Especially when it comes to RV storage, it’s easier to just throw things on top of other things and make a mess.
This way you can easily find things you need when you need it.
7 RV Storage Hacks to Try This Year
#1 collapsible dishes and cookware.
Our first RV storage hack is purchasing collapsible dishes and cookware. By doing this you save lots of space in cabinets and you can have more dishes then you might otherwise have.
It’s also helpful because they are plastic and hard to break.
#2 Wall Mounted Magnets for Spices and Cooking Utensils
This RV storage hack will save more cabinet space than you thought. All the spices and cooking utensils you pick up along your travels take up space. The magnetic spice rack is also stylish.
They are usually hard to sift through to find the one you want.
This utilizes your wall space to free up cabinets for more room and it makes it easy to find spices on the fly while cooking. On top of it, mounted utensils are considered decorative by today’s standards.
#3 Wall Mounted Soap and Shampoo Dispenser
Having a wall mounted soap and shampoo dispenser is a really nice RV storage hack. The showers in RV’s aren’t the most spacious for your toiletries.
By adding the dispenser it puts the big bottle essentials out of the way for more room. The wall mount is also travel friendly so that it doesn’t send everything flying around every time you drive.
#4 Use a Hanging Shoe Rack to Store Extra Towels
A hanging shoe rack is a great way to create extra storage. You can use them on any door and towels fit in the shoe slots perfectly.
You can use the slots for more than just towels but because towels can be so bulky this is a great way to store them.
It keeps them out of the drawers and in a very usable space.
#5 Save Closet Space with Cascading Hangers
If you want to save space in the closet consider using cascading hangers . It allows you to double up on the hanger. Because there isn’t typically a whole lot of closet space this is very helpful.
It’s especially helpful if you are traveling with families that need the extra space.
#6 Hang RV Hoses to Save on Exterior Storage Space
To help save space in the storage compartments below, try hanging the RV hoses. You can get a couple of hooks and install them to the side of the storage area. This helps create more space for storage.
It will also keep your drinking water hose clean and at less risk from being contaminated.
#7 Mount Large Items to Storage Compartment Ceiling
The last RV storage hack we have is to mount larger items to the storage compartment ceiling. This is perfect for things like brooms, fishing poles, and anything oddly shaped.
You don’t want to do something too heavy so it doesn’t fall down.
You can find hooks that stick on and place them on the ceiling part to hold your items. Then you have more space for less oddly shaped things.
Get Your RV Organized
These 7 simple RV storage hacks are easy to implement and will make a world of difference. Not only will it save you valuable space but it will help to be more organized.

15+ RV Storage Hacks For Better Pantry Organization
Published on May 9th, 2021 by Emily Lawrence
One of the main joys of RV camping is the ability to bring your favorite foods with you on the road. Sure, you can take snacks on a road trip, but campers provide a mobile kitchen that lets you take your whole pantry along for the ride.
However, sometimes space gets a little tight and you may need some RV storage hacks to help keep things organized and easy to access.
1. Mounted storage on cabinet doors
When you’re dealing with the limited storage space of an RV kitchen, every inch of space counts! Pantries and storage cabinets are the main places where you’ll keep larger items, but there is still space on the backsides of these doors.

Try using narrow plastic bins, or mounted wire racks . These are great for storing spices, bags, and disposable plates/silverware. Don’t make them too bulky, because you want to make sure you can still close the door!
2. Use shoe organizers for small item storage
Another option for door storage is a shoe organizer . These hang fairly flat against the back of the door and are great if you have a pantry with a full-size door. This is one of our lowest-budget RV storage hacks, but it’s quite versatile!
You can store lots of things in the pockets of a shoe organizer. Granola bars, cooking utensils, and pre-packaged snack bags are all some small, easy-access items you could keep in here.
3. Add pull-out containers in cabinet shelves
One of the biggest problems with RV pantries is that the shelves are very deep. Although this might sound like a good thing, this design can make it quite hard to reach items in the back.
Pull-out shelves are a good solution to this issue. You can either install them on rolling runners or buy a set of plastic tubs that slide forward easily. These stackable shelves are a great option. They’re deep enough to stretch into your pantry but are still easy to slide out when you need them.
4. Move new food items into shelf-ready containers
Food packaging comes in all shapes and sizes. This can make it hard to organize a cohesive pantry when you need to juggle all the different boxes, jars, and bags. To make things easier on yourself, think about transferring all your RV food into compact, easy-to-organize containers.
Tupperware sets are great for this purpose, but there are lots of other methods you could use. When you stock up on groceries, just empty the contents into labeled jars, boxes, or bins. This will make it easier to organize and save a lot of space and hassle.
5. Vacuum seal food to save space
Some food won’t be eaten immediately and will be more of a long-term storage item. If you’ve got a lot of this type of food, think about vacuum-sealing the containers to compress them and save space.
After that, all you need to do is tuck them in the pantry, refrigerator, or other storage spaces of your RV. This method won’t work for all types of food, but if you’re a fan of dehydrated fruit or jerky, this could be one of the perfect RV storage hacks for you!
6. More bags, less boxes
Speaking of bags, try to use a lot more of them in your storage strategy! It’s easy to clutter up your limited space with a bunch of half-empty boxes. Dry ingredients such as flour, salt, baking soda, etc. are very easy to store in sturdy Ziploc bags.
You can also keep your main storage at home and refill bags before you leave on trips. There’s no need to bring your whole food storage on the road. Bags are useful because they’re smaller, more flexile, and easy to fit into cramped spaces.
7. Organize your shelving accordingly
Another step that can make pantry organization easier is by tailoring it to your needs! Everyone likes to organize in a different way, and there are some foods that you’ll use much more frequently than others.
RV pantries can be quite tall, so it’s hard to reach the top shelves sometimes. To make everything easier, try to put your less-used items on the top shelf, and organize things with the most important items at the front and the least important at the rear.
8. Use nesting bowls, measuring cups, etc.
Pantries are most often used for food storage, but sometimes you’ll need to add a few utensils, dishes, or other kitchen items in there as well. When you’re living in an RV, all your equipment needs to be as compact as possible.
To maximize the available space in your cabinets, try to use collapsible or nesting kitchen equipment. This set of mixing bowls and measuring cups takes up a very small amount of space in the cabinet. There are also items like collapsible colanders and nesting pan sets that are perfect for RV campers.
9. Add tension rods for stability
It’s no secret that traveling in an RV can be a bit unstable. When you’re hauling a bunch of loose food and drinks with you, you don’t want to worry about finding a mess in your pantry once you’ve parked for the day.
Tension rods are extendable poles that can be used to brace your food storage during travel. Think about installing a few of these on each of your cabinet shelves, and in your refrigerator as well. They will help prevent items from being knocked over or spilling.
10. Try a Lazy Susan
Lazy Susans are a great way to organize your pantry while maximizing space. These are small rounded shelves that spin in a circle, giving you access to every item with no need to take everything out.
There are a variety of Lazy Susan spinners you can buy, but they’re also fairly easy to make yourself! Check out this guide of 14 ways to make a Lazy Susan spinner.
11. Buy perishables as you go
Most perishable items will be stored in your refrigerator. Refrigerator space is a precious commodity when you’re in an RV, so you want to make sure that nothing goes to waste or gets spilled.
In order to preserve your storage space and the lifespan of the food, you should plan on buying perishables as you travel. If you’re taking a long trip, don’t overload the fridge with your entire trip’s food storage. Food that’s stored in overcrowded refrigerators is more likely to rot, so make stops as you go to keep your fridge clear and your food fresh.
12. Mounted wall baskets
On a similar note, you can also use wall baskets and bins to increase your RV’s storage capacity. There are lots of classy-looking baskets that won’t detract from the decoration style of your camper.
Baskets like this one are perfect for storing fruit, spices, cleaning supplies, and anything else you need. If you prefer to keep them out of sight, you can also install thin baskets on the inside of your cabinet doors.
13. Make use of your counter space
Sometimes it just isn’t possible or practical to fit everything inside of a cabinet. When you need to expand your storage space a bit, think about using the counter space of your RV.
There are lots of storage bins or jars you can tuck into a corner (with nonslip pads to prevent movement). You can also try using a wire can rack to store your cans in a compact and easy-to-access way.
14. Magnetic strips
Magnetic strips are good storage options for both the inside and outside of your pantry. These are the perfect storage shelves for metal items and utensils. Magnets are perfect for RV storage hacks because they keep things neat, organized, and out of the way, but they also prevent movement when the RV is being driven.
One of my favorite items are these magnetic spice racks . You can keep everything on hand without worrying about anything falling out or coming loose.
15. Install wall hooks for easy access to tools
One of my favorite RV storage hacks is to install hooks around your camper for extra storage space. I’ve used hooks for key storage, pot holders, and cooking utensils. It’s very convenient to just reach up and grab something with no need to rummage around in a drawer.
Hooks are very easy to install, and a lot of kitchen items have loops, holes, or other handles to hang them from.

Let’s dive in!
1. Use cabinet stands to separate vertical space
Before we took our first extended RV trip from Omaha to the West Coast and back, we invested a lot of time into setting up our space. One of the most important parts of a functioning RV kitchen is maximizing space.
I measured each cabinet and found solutions that allowed us to break up the vertical space, like these cabinet stands . This helps us to maximize the functionality of the kitchen.
In our pantry cabinet, a wooden stand allows us to pack smaller items on the bottom and lighter, taller items on the top.
Pro tip: use a rubber grip or bar on the upper shelf to keep items from falling out after driving.
In a few other cabinets, I added these wire racks which allow me to stack more dishes in an efficient way. In one space I even purchased plastic bins to slide under the racks to divide the space in a functional way.
Don’t forget to measure twice and buy once!
2. Use a condiment caddy
Ok, so when we first got our RV I would continuously forget something. Many times, it was condiments for grilling. But, I found an easy solution – get a condiment caddy like this one and put small condiments in it.
It stays in our refrigerator and when it’s time to load up for an epic RV road trip or for a weekend camping at a local state park, I just take the caddy from the refrigerator and pop it in the RV.
3. Stack towels between breakables
Campers, trailers and RVs rattle when you drive. And everything in it rattles. An easy way we found to keep the noise down in our Class C motorhome, and prevent items from scratching or breaking is to put something soft between them.
I picked up some super cheap washcloths and stack them between pots and pans, glass or ceramic bowls, etc. I feel more confident knowing when we get to our destination that our items aren’t broken.
4. Hand-held vacuum is a life saver!
RVing with dogs and kids is so incredibly rewarding, but there’s a lot of messes on a daily basis. Initially I was hesitant to get a vacuum for the RV , but it’s been so amazing!
Having two Golden Retrievers, we use our hand-held vacuum daily to clean up dog hair, as it seems to be exaggerated in such a small space. It’s also great for crumbs under the dinette, or in particularly dirty destinations and for beach sand.
And after unloading the camper, it makes clean up a breeze!
5. Add puck lights (one of my favorite camper hacks for functionality)
Guys! This is a handy little trick we realized when we created a shoe zone in our RV. Adding a puck light is everything!
We’ve also added puck lights under our sink, where there were heavy shadows and it makes a world of difference when doing dishes. They’re also great for closets, shoe storage, cabinets or any other space that’s dark and hard to see.
This is one of my favorite camper tips and tricks whether you’re new to RVing or just want a more organized and efficient use of your space.
6. Get creative with shoe storage
Speaking of shoes, with a family of 4, we’re typically grabbing several sets of shoes for each adventure and we needed a creative shoe solution. While every RV layout is different, I’d just encourage you to find a way to store your shoes for organization.
My husband actually took our dinette bench out to cut into the base and create our shoe spot, located by the door and under the bench.
I’ve seen many others use a hanging shoe bag on hooks near their door, or little cubbies they’ve installed near the door. Get creative and find a good solution that works best for you!
7. Use non-slip for multiple surfaces
We’ve implemented non-slip shelf liner for many surfaces to help items (temporarily) stick while traveling. This helps with dishes from sliding around, our toaster from banging in the cabinet it’s stored, etc.
We’ve even added the non-slip grip to our refrigerator. These, along with bars help us secure food and drink items while on the road.
8. Maximize space with hooks (one of my favorite RV organizing tips)
An easy solution to using the vertical space in your RV, over the door hooks or these wall hooks ! We use door hooks for jackets, purses and light backpacks.
Wall mounted hooks are the home to our hats, which are especially helpful when we are going on hiking adventures like the best hikes in Glacier National Park , or beach hats when we explored the best 30A beaches in Florida .
Don’t be afraid to add door hooks for your cabinets for towels if you need the space, too!
9. Containers for bathroom supplies
Like many RVs, storage in the bathroom is tricky. With a family of four, we each have a small acrylic container for toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. This not only helps each of us to keep our items organized, but also breaks up the small, narrow shelves for other vertical items like sunblock, mosquito repellent or lotion tubes.
This RV hack works for our RV, and depending on your space, you may need to get creative with your bathroom storage, too!
10. Use thin hangers for closets
One of the first things I grabbed when we purchased our RV was thin hangers . I’m always shocked at just how much space it saves! We’ve gone on epic road trips when we needed winter clothes, like a Denver to Albuquerque road trip , which are obviously bulky items, and have had no issues with closet storage.
My husband and I have gone on month-long trips and never run out of closet space. Although, we often make sure at least some of our campgrounds have laundry services. Getting thin hangers is easily one of the most essential camper tips and tricks if you’re looking for functionality!
More camper tips and tricks
Well, the list is half way over. Can you see how these organizational strategies and gear help save time and more functionality? Let’s keep going!
11. Use a collapsible dish drying rack
Not gonna lie here: doing dishes in an RV is a real drag. But, I seriously think the simple act of being able to fold up the dish rack and store it out of the way is such a game changer.
This foldable dish drying rack just pops out when you need it, and folds down when you’re done. Get it out of sight and keep the counters clean so you can reduce clutter in your camper, helping you to stay organized.
12. Create more counter space with a stove top cover
Let’s face it, regardless of the kind of camper you have, there’s probably not enough counter space. RV friends of mine use a sink topper to create workable cutting or chopping space.
In our RV, we use a stove top cover to expand our counter space. Unless it’s rainy or cold, we typically use our Blackstone grill for cooking outdoors. So our butcher block stays on our stovetop and creates usable space for food prep or even storage while we’re parked.
13. Get a clothesline
One of the cheapest, easy solutions for the RV has been our retractable clothesline . It’s something you can use outdoors or inside.
This handy clothesline is easy to attach around something to itself and easily hangs from many surfaces.
While some campgrounds have restrictions with clotheslines outdoors, others don’t. We’ve used ours in the summer outside of Zion National Park while drying towels after a day of river play in Zion with kids .
Or, if we need to do some sink laundry, or even if it’s raining outside and we need to hang something, we’ll find a couple of cabinets we can string our clothesline from and hang towels or clothes to dry.
Certainly one of the best camping tips and tricks that’s affordable, especially if camping with kids.
14. Use a white noise maker
This is a great RV hack for kids, pets, or even if you’re a light sleeper. We use our white noise maker nightly to reduce the amount of outside noise.
This white noise maker is great for masking loud campgrounds, traffic noise, or even while rving with dogs so they don’t bark at outdoor noises.
It helps our kids fall asleep faster, too.
15. Upgrade your lock to a keypad
Once my husband found out how many RV companies use the same lock systems for storage and entrances, he upgraded our simple door lock to this RV lock . It was pretty easy to swap out, too.
One of the best RV hacks is using this lock pad. Not only is it more secure, it’s easy for our kids to get in and out of the RV while we’re traveling so we each don’t have to carry keys on us.
16. Dinette tray with non-slip for the road (another favorite camper tip for organization)
In our motorhome, my two kids typically sit at the dinette while we’re driving. This means that things can easily roll around. However, I had the idea when we first started using our RV to attach rubber non-slip to the bottom of a serving tray .
My kids now use our dinette tray to hold water bottles, snacks, toys or other items securely on the road while we drive. No more worrying about things flying off the table as we move! It’s such a great, functional way to stay organized while on the road.
17. Secure your cabinets
My family’s first Colorado road trip in our RV, we went over a rough part of the road and our cabinets slammed open, and a ceramic plate flew out, damaged our counter and shattered.
Lesson learned: we now secure our cabinets as we drive! Anything from rubber bands to hair ties to bungee cords are helpful in keeping your cabinet doors secured.
We’ve hit other bumps over the years that were equally rough, and our cabinets have come unlatched but the hooks prevented items from flying out.
Not only is this a useful camper tip, but also a good safety measure!
18. Collapsible bucket has multiple uses
With limited space, we found that the more things we could buy in a collapsible version, the better. We use this collapsible bucket for rinsing our dog’s muddy paws, or for cleaning up other messes.
A collapsible bucket is one of those inexpensive items that comes in handy for so many uses!
19. Use bins for clothing (stay organized with this easy organizing method for your RV)
While RVing is amazing, packing for it isn’t always easy. I bought my family storage bins like these for foldable clothes. As adults, it’s perfect for our shorts, swimming suits, socks and undergarments.
My kids even use their bins in combination with duffel bags for their clothing.
They collapse down when you don’t need them, and can easily transport to and from your house to load up.
We find these storage bins easy to access and helps us stay organized. Plus, they’re easy to pull out of a cabinet and pop back in.
20. Under couch storage
While each RV set up is different, I’m guessing you have hidden space you don’t know what to do with. For us, this is under our couch. It’s not super easy to access, but there’s quite a bit of space. To maximize our storage, one of the best camper tips and tricks we executed was to better utilize the hidden area.
So I measured the space and bought two flat storage bins , which hold our extra blankets or bedding. When we took our Banff to Jasper road trip in the summer, we even put light coats in the bins since we didn’t need them daily.
Just get creative and fill your space based on your camper layout and your needs!
21. Save space and keep safe with knives with guards
One of my favorite buys for the kitchen in our motorhome is this knife set with sheathes to cover the blades. I can toss them in a kitchen drawer without having to worry about the blade getting damaged or anyone hurting themselves because the sharp part is protected.
Plus, I love that this set of six knives that I have is color-coded, as I tend to use a few favorites.
I know others with campers who have knives hung on a magnetic strip on the wall, but that makes me too nervous for travel and it seems like just one more thing to put up and take down. These knives work perfectly for my family!
