Academic calendar
During your time at UQ, you’ll need to remember a number of important dates every semester. These include:
- Orientation Week. This takes place in the week before Semester 1 and Semester 2. It's designed to introduce new students to social and academic life at UQ.
- Due date to enrol. You have to enrol in at least one course by this date, otherwise you may have to pay a fee and get special permission to enrol.
- Final date to add courses. This is the last day you can add new courses or swap courses. If you want to enrol in a new course after this date, you may have to pay a fee and get special permission to enrol.
- Due date for the payment of fees. All course fees and the Student Services and Amenities Fee have to be paid by this date. Late fees apply if you miss this date.
- Census Date. Fee liability and enrolment details for all students are locked in and finalised on this date. It’s also the last date you can apply for a HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan. You can’t enrol in courses after Census Date, or get a refund on your fees, unless there are extraordinary or exceptional circumstances.
- Last date to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. This is the last day you can withdraw from your studies with a grade of 'W' – Course cancelled without academic penalty. A 'W' won't affect your grade point average. If there are extraordinary or exceptional circumstances after this date, you may still be eligible to withdraw without academic penalty.
To see when these dates occur, check the Academic Calendar for semesters and trimesters or the Teaching Periods Calendar .
Faculties and schools
Your faculty is listed in mySI-net under the 'Enrolments' tile > 'Program summary' > 'Program owner'.
Schools are listed on each electronic course profile as the 'Coordinating Unit'.
For most students, schools can help with courses and your faculty can help with your program – but there are some exceptions and there is a bit of overlap.
For example, you might find that some courses aren't taught by schools: they're taught by faculties, centres or institutes.
In these circumstances, you should still contact the 'Coordinating Unit' listed on the course profile with any relevant questions about the course.
As we head towards a new semester, we encourage you to visit your faculty website so you can familiarise yourself with important contacts.

Getting to know our library spaces and resources is one of the best ways to prepare for study as a new student.
Once you're enrolled, you can access library resources 6 weeks before the start of semester.
The Digital Essentials modules are a great place to start building your skills to succeed at UQ. Information Essentials and UQ Systems are the top modules to start with to help you navigate your first few weeks.
If you're studying on campus, we recommend you take a Library tour for an in-person introduction to library spaces and services. Our friendly student tour guides provide tours of different Library locations regularly during Orientation week. If you’re studying externally, our website has all the information you need.

Places to study on campus
Semester is in full swing. You’ve packed your bag, you’ve got an extra-extra-large coffee – but where can you go to study? There's plenty of places you can look:
- Check our maps to find communal study spots at St Lucia , Gatton , Herston or Dutton Park .
- Library study spaces are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – and you can check study space availability online .
- Book a room in one of the libraries — use your student account to reserve your space .
- Find an empty room or lecture hall — you can study in any teaching space as long as it isn’t booked.
- Ask your school to book a room for you.
Wherever you study on campus, remember to be considerate of other people.
How can we help?
