Montreal Metro System: Map & Guide

Your complete guide to getting around Montreal on the Metro

tour telus station metro

The heart of Montreal's public transport system is the Metro, a clean, modern, quiet subway that runs entirely below grade. Being the first subway system in the world to run entirely on pneumatic rubber tires, it is quieter than most other metro systems.

Lines and Stations

The Montreal Metro system operated by STM has a total of 68 stations spread out over 4 underground lines totalling about 66 kilometres in length. Metro lines are numbered 1 (Green Line) , 2 (Orange Line) , 4 (Yellow Line) and 5 (Blue Line) . Each line is represented on the Montreal Metro Map by its corresponding color. Line 3 was planned but never built.

With top speeds up to 72km per hour and no traffic to slow it down, Montreal's Metro system will quickly get you within walking distance of most of the city's popular tourist attractions. Where it doesn't, you can easily transfer to a bus to get closer. Passes are valid on both so you won't have to pay again unless you are purchasing single trip fares.

The below Map of the Montreal Metro system shows all frequent service bus routes in a simple clear design which will make it easy for you to get anywhere in the city.

Service frequency and best times to travel

Trains are frequent on all lines with service frequency varying between 3 and 11 minutes depending on the line and the time of day. The first trains depart daily at 5:30 am and service continues until after midnight on all lines. On Line 5 the last trains depart at 12:15 am; on Lines 1 and 2 at about 12:30 am and 1 am on Saturday); on Line 4 at about 12:50 am and 1:30 am on Saturday. If you our out later that this you will have to take a night bus. Times for the first and last trains are also printed in the lower right corner of the Metro Map below.

Trains do get very busy during the morning and afternoon rush, so we recommend planning your travel during off peak hours for a more relaxed trip.

Entrances to the Montreal Metro are signed with and inverted arrow inside a circle on a light blue background. An exception is the Saint-Antoine entrance to the Square-Victoria station which is signed with a decorative Art Nouveau "METROPOLITAIN" sign exactly like the ones in Paris; a gift to Montreal from the RAPT which is the public transport authority in Paris. The metro has five intermodal stations where you can transfer to light rail commuter trains operated by AMT. These stations are identified on the metro map below by station markers with a heavy black border.

The busiest and most important station to be aware of is Berri -UQAM. It is located at the junction of 3 of the 4 Metro lines: 1 (Green Line) , 2 (Orange Line) , 4 (Yellow Line) making it a major transport hub. Located in the Latin Quarter, it's only 2 stations east of Downtown Montreal on Line 1 and even closer to Old Montreal.

The next stop is announced in French as your train leaves each station and onboard route maps help you keep track of your progress. If you miss your station it is easy enough to exit at the next station and cross over to the other platform to backtrack. You don't have to leave the station.

Tickets and Fares

Tickets and passes for the Metro can also be used to transfer to a bus and vice versa. If you purchase a single fare ticket you on a bus you must ask for a transfer which is vallid 90 minutes. Visit our page on fares for our more information about purchasing and using tickets on the transit system including the Metro.

Montreal’s metro now fully connected to the mobile network

tour telus station metro

With the support of Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Vidéotron, the STM has improved the commuter experience and created the largest digital indoor network in Canada

Montreal, December 3, 2020 – The Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) and its partners—TELUS (as project integrator), Bell, Rogers and Vidéotron—are proud to announce that the deployment of the 4G LTE mobile network is now complete in all 68 stations and 71 km of tunnels that make up Montreal’s metro system. With the Jolicoeur, Monk and Angrignon stations connected today, this complex project, launched in 2013, has now been completed within its stated schedule, scope and budget, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

The project involved an investment of nearly $50 million—funded in equal parts by telecommunications providers Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Vidéotron—and it has provided the STM with Canada’s largest indoor digital network and the longest underground wireless network in the country. This special collaboration among the country’s largest telecom companies has brought uninterrupted connectivity and stable, 100% LTE coverage throughout the STM stations and trains. STM passengers can now enjoy a download speed of up to 275 Mbps, which is comparable to what they might get at home.

The upgrades required the deployment of radiant cable and antennas in tunnels, the installation of technical cabinets in stations, and the addition of five utility rooms containing specialized equipment and located at key points in the network to ensure optimal coverage. Through close coordination and meticulous planning, the teams involved managed to complete the project in compliance with all of the key parameters defined for the project. Another fact worth mentioning is that this work was completed with minimal impact on STM commuters and did not require full or partial closures of any stations or entry points, nor did it cause any disruptions to passenger travel. All of this was achieved despite the inherent challenges of such a complex project and completed in an environment that tens of thousands of people walk through every day, with multiple work sites in progress at any given time.

“I’m very proud to see this innovative, visionary project being completed today for the benefit of the STM and its customers,” exclaimed Michel Lafrance, General Manager of STM subsidiary Transgesco s.e.c., a limited partnership. “With its unique funding model, the partnership between Bell, Rogers, Telus and Vidéotron is the envy of transit corporations around the world.”

“I’d like to salute the hard work and collaboration of our partners—Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Vidéotron—who did a masterful job spearheading this project, together with the STM teams,” added STM Chairman of the Board Philippe Schnobb. “The deployment of the mobile network will greatly improve our customers’ commuting experience, and also enable us to communicate more effectively with them. Today is truly a great day for the Montreal metro system!”

“As project integrator for the design and implementation of the 4G LTE network in the STM metro system, TELUS is proud to have played a role in improving the commuter experience with speeds and underground coverage that are unprecedented in the country,” explained François Gratton, Executive Vice-President, Group President, TELUS and Chair, TELUS Health and TELUS Quebec. “This public transit achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to building stronger, better-connected communities in Montreal and across the country.”

“Bell has kept Montréalers connected since our company was founded here in 1880, and we’re proud to partner in this outstanding communications achievement by the STM,” said Karine Moses, Bell’s Vice Chair, Québec. “We offer our thanks to the STM and all our network partners for their leadership in making Montréal’s underground mobile network one of the most advanced in the entire world.”

“Montrealers want to stay connected when they take the metro, and Rogers is proud to help provide STM users with reliable, consistent wireless service,” said Édith Cloutier, President of Quebec, Rogers Communications and Vice-President, Sales, Enterprise and Public Sector, Quebec and Ottawa. “Commuters can now remain connected to what matters most to them for their whole trip.”

“Vidéotron is so proud of having contributed in the deployment of this one-of-a-kind network,” concluded Jean-François Pruneau, President & CEO, Vidéotron. “From now on, the millions of passengers who take the metro each year will be able to communicate, browse the web and work during their travels. As supporters of a connected life for Quebecers, we want to make people’s lives easier and make technology accessible. This project suits this vision to a T.”

Telus condos are next homebuying opportunity at Gray’s Station

  • June 7, 2023

tour telus station metro

As Des Moines continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in the Midwest, boasting a 40% growth in the last decade, the Gray’s Station neighborhood is welcoming a new kind of homebuying opportunity with Telus, a condominium community.

With construction slated to start in the latter half of 2023, Telus will be a three-story community featuring 84 one and two-bedroom condos. This community will be located near the existing LINC townhomes on the corner of Tuttle and SW 12 th Streets. Telus will be a seamless addition to the neighborhood, with a modern exterior and a great cycle track running along the northern portion, connecting to the 1,500 miles of surrounding bike trails in Central Iowa.

Inside of each home, Gray’s designers have customized high-end finishes, including solid stone countertops and huge windows letting in natural light, open concept living space, complete with an oversized island. Depending on the floorplan you choose, finishes and designs will vary within the given layout. Homes located on the first floor will enjoy a great walk-up entry and patio space. All second and third-floor homes will have their own private patio off of the main living area, just one of the ways Telus provides outdoor space downtown to each homeowner. The bathrooms are fitted with double vanities and beautiful marble tile, making the bath/shower an oasis in the home. Homeowners will also have access to the detached covered garages and the dog park located in the center of this community. As part of the Gray’s overall plan, the expanded paseo with green space continues to connect the community to the rest of the neighborhood – completed and future phases.

The community itself was inspired by the popular Edison Condos , the first condos added to the Des Moines skyline since 2008, along SW 7 th Street. With numerous condo opportunities throughout Greater Des Moines, Telus provides an unparalleled location and connectivity to the downtown core as well as Gray’s Lake and the 1,500-acre Water Works Park. Thanks to the Coleman Bridge connection, Telus is half a mile from Lauridsen Amphitheater , Killinger Family Stage and the newly opened, and popular, Des Moines Biergarten . To the north, Telus is again just a three-block walk to the famous Pappajohn Sculpture Park which hosts festivals such as 80/35, Italian Heritage Festival and the Des Moines Arts Festival as well as major downtown employers like EMC, Wells Fargo and Nationwide.

In the near future, two blocks to the west, Telus will also boast easy access to the USL ProIowa soccer stadium, set to be open in 2025. This stadium will be a soccer specific home to the professional soccer team that will be calling Des Moines its hometown. A global plaza, including restaurants, retail and office space are also planned for the area surrounding the stadium.

Gray’s Station, one of downtown Des Moines’ urban neighborhoods, is a unique combination of retail, townhomes , rental communities , and upcoming single-family homes . Gray’s is home to numerous, proud local business owners such as Mad Meatball, Iowa Spine + Performance and Tipsy Nails. The 75-acre community continues to expand, adding living and exploring options to downtown Des Moines with numerous future phases planned through 2030.

Moscow Metro: the Underground Palaces

  • Description

Moscow Metro: the Underground Palaces

This 1.5 hour walking tour will take you around Moscow’s most spectacular Soviet-era metro stations. Often considered to be the most beautiful metro system in the world, it is also one of the busiest. The first Metro line, the Red line, was opened in 1935. It had just 13 stations, and ran between Gorky Park and Sokolniky Park. The Moscow Metro now has more than 210 stations.

An expert guide will tell you how the Moscow Metro was built as a palace for the people, and show you how this new form of underground architecture was designed to express a bright, optimistic and bold new Soviet future. During the Great Patriotic War the stations served as air raid shelters, and the new, even grander, stations built after 1945 celebrated different aspects of the Soviet victory in the war.

Admire the extravagant décor of the stations - the chandeliers, gold and marble, the giant bronze sculptures in Revolution Square station, the stained glass in Novoslobodskaya station and the iconic mosaics and futuristic steel arches in Mayakovskaya station. You will also hear about the sinister Metro-2, a secret tunnel network that is said to run parallel to the main system. Moscow metro tours don’t come any better than this!

What you can expect:

  • A 1.5-hour tour of Moscow metro stations with an expert local guide
  • Learn about Stalin’s rule and see how his vision was reflected in the architecture he commissioned
  • Visit four of the most intriguing Moscow stations: Revolution Square, Novoslobodskaya, Kievskaya and Mayakovskaya
  • Look for the hidden entrance to Metro-2 - a secret government line that is said to link the Kremlin to KGB outposts

See iconic Soviet-era architecture alongside lavish mosaics, sculptures and stained glass.

Cast of ‘A Different World’ reunites on tour and makes a stop in DC

The cast from the 90s hit show “A Different World” was in D.C. on Tuesday as part of a 10-city tour to historically Black colleges across the country. The event, called “Hillman Day at Howard,” not only celebrated the show and its contributions to HBCUs, it also focused on boosting enrollment at the schools.

“This is a perfect moment for us to uphold HBCUs and put a spotlight back on them so that people know how vital they are to our community,” said Cree Summer, who played Freddie Brooks on the show.

“A Different World,” which was on air between 1987 and 1993, was a spinoff of the Cosby Show that followed Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) to Hillman College — a fictional, historically Black college located in Virginia.

Dawnn Lewis, who played Jaleesa Vinson — Taylor, said the show was able to put a prime time spotlight on the Black college experience.

“The experience of fellowship, of seeing yourself, being seen, appreciated or being encouraged in this kind of environment and nurtured amongst your own,” she said.

Jasmine Guy, who played Whitley Gilbert, said the show offered her a chance to be an artist.

“[Not having] to hold up the whole race because I’m the only Black character on the show, gave me a creative freedom that I hadn’t experienced before,” Guy said.

The show’s diverse cast allowed it to bring a variety of lifestyles in the Black community to TVs across the country.

“We are not a monolithic group of people,” Guy said.

The show also touched on difficult topics, such as racism and date rape. Kadeem Hardison, who played Dwayne Wayne, recalls an episode dealing with date rape, which included a discussion about that topic with Coach Walter Oakes (Sinbad).

“It taught me something. And I got to be vulnerable, because I really was looking for that knowledge. And I got it on the show,” Hardison said.

Glynn Turman, who played Col. Brad Taylor, said the show was also very popular because while tough topics were discussed, there were also laughs.

“I think we can lose sight of the fact that through all of this very heavy commentary that the show did tackle, there were great laughs, the show was fun. It was uplifting,” Turman said.

When asked if there would be a reboot of the show, Darryl M. Bell, who played Ron Johnson, said he used to respond to that question, “never.”

“Now, I say ‘never say never,'” Bells said.

After a press panel, the cast took part in a closed panel discussion with students at the college. Howard University was the second stop for the cast.

Leading into the Howard visit, the cast also accepted an invitation to the White House, which Summer said she enjoyed.

“I’m still flying to tell you the truth. When I come down from this levitation, I’ll let you know,” Summer joked.

The next stop for the cast will be this fall in Montgomery, Alabama, for an event hosted by Alabama State University and Tuskegee University.
